i have this idea for an mspfa that i can NOT start drawing pictures about rn or im gonna fuck up my flow on tx but its undeniably simmering back there on that posteriorwards burner. itd be about players in a doomed timeline fighting to stay alive, its thesis is basically "the fate and predestination in homestuck? kinda fucked up" and itd also be just a way for me to put my own amount of importance on each hs mechanic and refute some of the occasional bs in hs exposition. also itd have sylladex fuckery throughout i think (a1-4 fan)

alright,
i am well in need of a proper homestuck reread by this point, it's certainly been long enough since i went through the comic as a whole instead of just skipping around to different acts and conversations. to anyone following me rn who would like to avoid possible post spam about this, i'll be tagging everything with "#astronaut reread" so feel free to filter that. dunno if it'll be that spam-y though tbh, i'm trying to be more careful and take my time going through each page and image to really Pay Attention this time round to make sense of all of the theories/analysis i've been reading lately, but that may also make my liveblogging posts longer so. idk we'll see how this goes
initial thoughts: i've always been drawn to the emptiness of early homestuck, the whole aspect of the kids shitting around in their rooms doing basically nothing of real importance (ignoring hs's love of callbacks) feels very true to the experience of being a teenager in the last few decades. it's quite slow story-wise, of course, but it genuinely does set up a lot of the story later on (john's posters all foreshadowing/inspiring later plot points, etc.) and the vibe is just. man idk, i've seen people criticize act 6 for being slow in that nothing really happens since all the characters are just Waiting, but reading through the very beginning again that almost feels more true to the core of homestuck, or at least where it started. and i like it, sometimes it's nice to just slow down, even though i get the frustration w/ that later in the story after the plot has so much more baggage. but more reflection on that later.
john is an interesting character on a meta level in how he represents the most basic entity in homestuck: the first kid, upon which all other kids evolve off of, but what's more interesting about that fact to me is how his original Home plays into that character. maybe i'm biased by nostalgia, but (A1:82) is such an interesting page, it's like the first point where the comic hints at taking itself more seriously by marking just how empty the space surrounding john is, houses all copies of one another and far apart along the streets. not to mention the wind running through the windchime, perhaps another instance of foreshadowing/inspiration? hussie mentions the idea of vriska being tied to the image of the sun that page ends on in the commentary notes, troll gods not yet conceived of but looking down and watching all the same. honestly all i can think of is a section from the start of ch2 of the zhuangzi:
Master Dapple said, “My, isn’t that a good question you’ve asked, Ziyou! Just now I lost myself. Do you know? You’ve heard the pipes of people, but not the pipes of earth. Or if you’ve heard the pipes of earth, you haven’t heard the pipes of Heaven.”

“The Big Lump belches breath and it’s called wind. If only it wouldn’t start! When it starts, the ten thousand holes begin to hiss. Don’t you hear the shsh-shsh? perhaps that's fitting with all the talk of transformation & flexibility/adaptation in that chapter.
you really can't get away from the names "homestuck" and "s(u)burb" with this beginning to the comic. john, as the quintessential homestuck kid, trapped in his house in the empty suburbs, stuck not because of any physical boundaries/walls, but perhaps because of a lack of them. massive roads and sprawling suburbs that make it impossible to get anywhere on foot is a pretty classic image of modern america, so john's desire for breath, for movement, makes sense in that regard. homestuck has always been most appealing to me in how it doesn't shy away from reality, as messy as that engagement often is, and this beginning feels like it gets at some of that emotional core that homestuck started with. it's immediately followed by a joke about pissing/shitting in the mailbox too. classic.

sparkling water is like hella zippy i used to take a can to first period everyday in hs trying to wean myself off caffeine
but flat water is just so… like don’t get me wrong it can be nasty like tap or whatever but good filtered water is A1
I can absolutely fuck with a nice cold glass of good filtered water. But I feel like that's never what I end up with when I drink it.
I live off of seltzer though. If I'm not drinking caffeine/alcohol I'm drinking seltzer. The brand I like just came out with an apple/lemon flavor that I cannot get enough of.

Az amerikai járványügyi hatóság tanulmánya szerint a tinédzserek kannabisz használata csökkent a legalizáció után.
Ez a megfigyelés egyenesen ellentmond a kannabisz legalizálása ellen kampányolók fő érveinek.
Amikor a kannabiszt legalizálják, könnyebb lesz megvásárolni és egyre többen kezdik használni, igaz?
Vagy mégsem, az amerikai járványügyi hatóság (CDC) új tanulmánya szerint, ami arra utal, hogy a középiskolás tinédzserek egyre ritkábban fogyasztanak kannabiszt, még akkor is, ha az államok legálissá teszik az engedéllyel rendelkező árusoktól való vásárlást.
Nem csak a kannabiszról van szó – az adatok azt mutatják, hogy az összes kábítószer, köztük az alkohol, a vényköteles gyógyszerek és a nikotin fogyasztása is lineárisan csökkent ebben a korcsoportban.
Az adatok az új CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) felmérésből származnak, amely a 9–12. évfolyamos tanulók rossz egészségi állapotával összefüggő magatartások sorát követi nyomon.
Az eredmények ezúttal különösen érdekesek, mert 2009 és 2013 között a tinédzserek kannabisz használata felfelé ívelt, de onnantól kezdve csökkenni kezdett. 2012-ben legalizálták a kannabisz rekreációs célú használatát az első államban, és 2014-ben nyitottak az első boltok, ami arra utal, hogy a legalizálás valójában csökkenthette a tinédzserek használatát.
Átlagosan a középiskolás diákok 15,8 százaléka számolt be arról, hogy 2021-ben az elmúlt 30 napban valamikor használt kannabiszt, és lényegesen több nő használta, mint férfi (17,8 százalék a 13,6 százalékhoz képest). A 2013-as rekordmagassághoz, 23,4 százalékhoz képest a tinédzserek kannabisz használata most meredeken csökkent.

Dear Jori,
My emotions be up and down all day today but I think I’m beginning to feel a lot better. I climbed in the morning with Thuan, my coworker. I told him a bit about you and what’s been going on with me. He also helped me climb a little bit in Valuo.
And then you hit hit me up. We played some TFT and I ordered food for you cause you couldn’t find your credit card. Threw in a churro cause I know you like those :3
Today I officially accepted the Japan job. I’m really going to Japan huh.
Tu asked how I was doing today. And so did Amy. And Solon randomly texted me so I told him what was going on. I just felt so supported by friends today because it’s nice knowing that my quality of friends is A1. Amy was sharing a bit of how she felt when she went through something similar. I wonder how it’s been like for you. If it’s been hard at all.
And then Solon always has some of the right words to say. Like when I came out to him he said something that made me feel a lot better about religion. And today he told me
“It’s up to you if you wanna choose this guy you already have something w/ or if you wanna choose someone else who’s better cuz no matter what it’ll be okay :)”
Idk why that get so nice, not just the it’ll be okay part but the part where I’m allowed to chase after you. Cause you already know what I choose.
Then I got to catch up with Matt and Meglo again today to tell them about you to. Which I love doing cause it’s such a fun story. They’re growing up so fast. It feels like it wasn’t that long ago I was staying up with them on campus when they were freshmen. They just seem… older.
Then back home and the ups and downs but mostly just overthinking. The weird thing that Anthony posted in chat something but bearbear I friggen can’t but when I talked to you later it sounded like you had no idea what that was about. I had that hot flash of embarrassment like maybe I did something wrong. Idk it just reminded me of HS vibes where everyone knows something that I don’t and I felt idk.
And then you were playing Valuo but I didn’t realize you didn’t want to play w me cause I’m too low haha. I was just overthinking that you didn’t want to play with me. But then we ended up staying up till 5:30 again even after you talked about how you want to sleep early. It really felt just like before minus the flirting and the sus jokes but I’m okay with that. Two friends that just stayed up playing and talking about league and Valuo and TFT. I think that was the reassurance I needed. That even when you were tired you still wanted to degen with me. And then you called sleep this time because I couldn’t even think straight because I am literally so behind on sleep but if it’s because I’m spending time with you it’s totally worth it lol
I was literally about to fall asleep after you said goodnight but I needed to write this letter because today was such a good day.
