Pregnant women, on average, need 300 to 400 extra calories per day. In multiple pregnancies, each baby requires an additional 500 calories. For the average woman, that is about 2500 total calories per day. A healthy weight gain is around 25 to 35 pounds. However, variation exists depending on activity level and previous body weight.

Vitamin B is essential for the prevention of nervousness, anxiety, and depression. B vitamins are also necessary for the synthesis of myelin (for the nervous system), maturation of red blood cells, and prevention of anemia. Moreover, vitamin B prevents miscarriage and neural tube defects.
Macronutrients and other nutritions during pregnancy 
75-100 g of daily Protein is needed: Protein is in meat, fish, poultry, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and dairy products. Unless you are a vegan or a vegetarian, this is not a significant concern.
Fat: Women who have increased consumption of essential fatty acids (i.e., fish oils) during pregnancy and breastfeeding have a lower chance of developing postpartum depression. Essential fatty acids also increase kids’ learning and memory. Healthy fats are also critical for fetal brain and nervous system development. Essential fatty acids are anti-inflammatory. Essential fatty acids also prepare the cervix (uterus entrance) for delivery.
For cooking use: organic butter, chicken fat, palm kernel, and coconut oil
Olive oil. You should use olive oil at low temperatures. Use olive oil, flax oil, sesame, and peanut oils for salads and steamed vegetables. Avoid soy, corn, safflower, cottonseed, and canola oils.
The rest of your calories should come from carbohydrates, with an emphasis on complex carbohydrates from vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and legumes.
Fluid Intake
Aim for 2 to 3 L of water per day (8 to 12 glasses) of water intake as blood volume, and embryonic fluid expands.
Sugar and Salt
Table salt lacks essential minerals and contains additives (i.e., sugar). Use Celtic sea salt and Himalayan crystal salt. For baking use, rapadura (raw cane sugar), pure maple syrup, raw honey, or molasses.

Thoughts I’ve had during these past twenty four hours with accumulation and past influence or My Day Mmmmmmmm Sometimes I really don’t feel like recovering and I want to restrict and not eat food and also exercise secretly. Sometimes though, I find fragment beams of desire and intent. So I grasp onto these fragrant moon beams, these small slivers and billow them out to their full potential. Today didn’t start out well. Melody woke me up, I don’t think I did any exercise during the shower, but breakfast things started to go astray. “Ooh! How about avocado toast with salmon?” I suggested. “Sure!” chirped Melody “And scrambled eggs?” “Can I have a hard boiled egg?” I asked. “Oh. Okay.” Said Melody. We negotiated, and I conceded with two pieces of toast. I began to avocado them when I noted melody was standing over the stove and had a bowl with not one, but two cracked eggs in it. “Oh. Haha. I thought I was going to have hard boiled eggs.” “Oh! Sorry” “It’s...okay.” I said. It had to be okay. Getting better, eating food, gaining a few pounds, it’s all under the same roof. But... I did throw away a little of the avocado. Because I knew I had two scrambled eggs coming my way. With pepper, and red onion. Then I walk back to dispose of loose tea leaves* and don’t see a dab, but a huge hunk of butter sizzling in the pan. The size of four white erasers stacked 2x2. Okay. Two eggs. But butter? The line of “Maybe not okay” suggestibility has to be drawn somewhere. “Whoa. That’s a lot of butter.” I say Melody smiles and continues to push it around the pan: “Yaaaa, I just put in what was left but I guess it is a lot.” After at least two of the eraser-sized portions of butter are gone Melody says “You’re right, I think that’s too much butter. I guess I can take it out now.” “Ya, that’s a good idea.” I say, and go back to attend to my toast. So my mum said I could open up a precious can of her salmon and I did, (Poly and mono saturated fat heaven.) so here I am with two pieces of delicious salmon avocado toast. Wild salmon my mum caught and canned, pretty nice avocado, and some tasty grainy toast. The absolute perfect breakfast on any other occasion, but the occasion for the past few months has been eating disorder. And I’m considering flushing my perfect morning toast. Then I see Melody put in a fist full of per-shredded and packaged Havarti cheese into the double bubble buttered pan, and I loose it. I silently fold my two pieces of avocado salmon toast together (careful to leave a corner as not to seem suspicious) and while Melody’s back is turned preparing the death eggs, I scramble out of my chair and walk to the bathroom where I promptly dump the 3/4 of my beautiful, sublime, motherly toast in the toilet and flush. Of course I was thinking “I can stop. I can turn around.” But at the same time I was dealing with hands that wanted to see the grain meet water so I couldn’t look back. I returned to the table and with relief saw that the corner I had left had some salmon, and avocado. I relished the last bite as Melody approached. “Should I use the same plate?” She asked? I handed her the plate of lies, now empty, ready for scrambled Satan spawn. “Sure. I finished the toast.” “Awesome.” The excitement and satisfaction was foaming from between her teeth. I managed to give a hunk of hell to our dog, Dime, but she sat and watched me eat the chunky funky hunkies for the rest of the meal. Swimming in butter sewage. It. Did. Taste. Good. Though! I added a bit of salmon. Mum came down, and talked about the day, we decided I would try Thai food again for lunch, and It was also determined that the walks had to be compressed to no more than ten minutes. My mum said our family doctor was “Emphatic” about that fact. So, we went to the library, where I did approximately 175 high knees in the family bathroom. “What were you doing in there?” Asked Melody “Some exercise.” I said, light headed and feeling sick. Over Thai food she explained that she didn’t know what to do. “Should I like, knock on the door in public? I don’t know how to tell you not to do that. He said “Anymore questions?” and I asked “Hmmmm...What’s your favorite colour?” He said Skyblue. I think he was Japanese. We went for walk #1. i jumped around and climbed on some rocks in a fountain. Then had anxiety that I needed to go back and jump on one of those things again, so I ushered Melody out of the general vicinity where we were looking at art. What Are The Benefits Of Boosting Tryptophan Through Diet?
1. Can Reduce Anxiety, Depression, And Aggression

The synthesis of critical neurochemicals is dependent on tryptophan. This essential amino acid gets converted to serotonin. Several studies found that a deficiency in serotonin was responsible for anxiety, depression, and sleeplessness.
These studies revealed that people who followed diets rich in tryptophan (>10 mg/kg of bodyweight) had lesser episodes of depression and anxiety. Irritability was lower in controls and subjects that had a history of depression and anxiety (1).
It is also noteworthy that optimal supplementation of tryptophan (along with other therapeutic agents) can reduce aggression in subjects with depression, ADHD, and other behavioral disorders (3).
2. Controls Mood Swings During PMS
Tryptophan can reduce the severity of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in sexually active women. Subjects receiving about 6 g/day of tryptophan showed reduction in dysphoria, mood swings, and irritability when compared to controls on placebo (3).
Tryptophan is responsible for the synthesis of kynurenine, an intermediate of several key protective compounds in the body. Increased level of tryptophan is directly proportional to increased kynurenine synthesis. This chemical soothes your CNS and behavior in the late-luteal phase of the menstrual cycle (3).
3. Can Help Manage Sleep Disorders
Boosting tryptophan levels through diet can treat a variety of sleep disorders. A dose of about 2.5 mg of tryptophan given during bedtime improved the quality of sleep in individuals with obstructive sleep apnea.
Unlike other sleep disorder medications, tryptophan doesn’t slow down the person. It doesn’t limit cognitive performance or prevent you from waking up from sleep. Therefore, dietary sources of tryptophan can be used with medical supervision to manage sleep disorders early in life (3).

Eating tryptophan-rich foods can help wean you off cigarettes, tobacco, and nicotine.
Dietary tryptophan reduces anxiety and helps in better abstinence from smoking.

Could There Be Any Side Effects Of Tryptophan Intake?
Valid question.
Tryptophan is involved in almost every activity our body performs. It is hence needed in large amounts. So, irrespective of the mode of intake, it better be safe!
It was found that tryptophan had a low toxicity profile in rats (2).
The 9th Amino Acid Assessment Workshop proposed a No Observable Adverse Effect Level (NOAEL) for diet-added tryptophan of 4.5 g/day for young adults (2).
This is why tryptophan is added to sleep-inducing pills and mood regulation medications.
However, there are hypotheses claiming high-meat diets containing high nicotinamide might cause infertility. Though meat products have low tryptophan levels, the conversion rate to niacin and kynurenine is higher (2).
Hence, it is recommended to keep your doctor informed about your dietary habits. Pregnant and lactating women should follow the diet plans framed by the gynecologist and/or nutritionist.

They’re the doctors and nutritionists who see sick people all the time. So what do they use to keep themselves well and immune to illness? We asked leading health experts for the natural cold and flu remedies they can’t live without.
1. Dr. David Jack – anti-ageing doctor
Which cold and flu remedies do you swear by?
Good old vitamin C has to be my number one. In the winter I make sure I’m getting surplus vitamin C from citrus fruits and supplements.  I really don’t think you can get enough of it. If I feel a cold or sniffle coming on – I add two Berocca tablets to my shake, which seems to really stop anything nasty in its tracks! Try Lifeplan Vitamin C (Timed Release) £9.95
Do you take an precautions to avoid getting sick? 
In the wintertime I up my game a little. I am a big fan of antioxidants to help the immune system boost itself – particularly glutathione and vitamins C and E so I’ve added these to my supplement range. Berocca has been helping me for years and I really swear by it, particularly when I was working in the NHS and was exposed to all sorts of viruses on a daily basis.
I think eating a good range of fruit and vegetables every day is also essential – particularly strongly coloured fruits such as raspberries, blueberries and Concord grapes. I eat these on a daily basis, particularly in wintertime when the risk of infections is higher. I swear by adding a good quality probiotic daily such as Biocare Bioacidophilus Forte £33.60 which is expensive but really very good.  This not only ensures your bowel is in good health but also boosts your immune system dramatically.  
I also highly recommend Vitamin D, daily throughout the year for those who don’t spend much time outside, but everyone should take it during the winter months as we do not get Vitamin D from the sun in this country during the winter months.  
The third is a very good quality fish oil, my personal choice is Krill oil. BetterYou DLux 3000 £7.95 is a quality vitamin D supplement that comes in a highly absorbable mouth spray form. 
For colds, I also recommend the following:
Pelargonium – This is a herbal remedy that does pack a punch and helps with respiratory infections, sore throats and general cold and flu symptoms.  Take this remedy as soon as you begin to feel the onset of illness and continue until you are showing signs of improvement. Although natural, I would not advise this for children under 12 years old.  I like Higher Nature’s Pelargonium Cold Relief £8.05 which provides 20mg active ingredient per capsule.
Zinc – I always recommend including plenty of zinc-rich foods in your diet, such as pumpkin seeds, spinach, beef, wheat germ and cocoa.  You can also take a good quality supplement such as a Zinc Citrate daily, especially when suffering from any ear, nose or throat problems. I recommend Lifeplan Zinc Citrate £8.40.
Vitamin C – We know that vitamin C can help fight infection, so increasing our intake by eating plenty of berries, citrus fruits, papayas, broccoli and red peppers will help keep us protected, all year long. At the first sign of a cold, I would highly recommend you take vitamin c supplements, either in powder or tablet form to boost the effects.   
Do you take an precautions to avoid getting sick? 
Hydrate – Keeping yourself well hydrated is absolutely vital to help ‘flush’ out the cold, break down congestion and keep your throat lubricated.  Try to avoid sugary or milky drinks especially if you have a lot of mucus as this can often make it worse.  I would opt for water (sparkling water with lemon can be very refreshing), you can also try soothing warm herbal and fruit teas.  Herbal teas such as sage, ginger, lemon, chamomile, liquorice root, slippery elm and green tea can help ease a sore throat.  Fresh turmeric (not powder) tea is really light and is perfect as an anti-inflammatory. Make a broth – Broth would have traditionally been made using bones and whatever spare vegetables were around.  Bone stock is packed full of nutrients, including gelatine, collagen and a whole host of vitamin and minerals to help heal and get you back on your feet.  Add some garlic, as it is a powerful anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-catarrhal.  Don’t fear adding chilli, this acts as a natural decongestant.  I would also add some turmeric and cinnamon, as well as a dash of fresh ginger to speed up your metabolism too!
Take it easy! – We all think we are invincible and push forward no matter what but there is nothing wrong with taking some time out, turn off the wifi, grab the duvet and relax and de-stress.  This not only feels good but it also boosts your immune system.  The perfect excuse for a lazy day!
A breath of fresh air – Our ancestors used to take patients outdoors for at least an hour every day, no matter how sick they were. There is a good reason behind this and the reason is Vitamin D, which helps to prevent the flu and can also regulate our immune response.  We are now aware that a large number of Brits are lacking the recommended levels of Vitamin D, especially throughout the winter months. To gain adequate exposure to the sun’s UVB rays, you need to be in the sun for at least 15 minutes per day.  For those unable to do so, a great alternative is opting for vitamin D3 supplements. There is evidence suggesting that vitamin C can be beneficial when it comes to fighting off colds and flus because of the way in which it supports our immune system, so I try to incorporate this into my diet whenever I can. During the colder months in addition to eating a diet rich in vitamin c through vegetables and fruits, I also will take a vitamin C supplement to help ward off colds and infections.
How do you get rid of a cold fat?
When it comes to getting rid of a cold, I usually turn away from the standard over the counter cold treatments and opt for natural remedies as I feel these are a much healthier way to fight a cold and get your body back to normal.
For example, I find it incredibly beneficial to sweat out a cold in a sauna, or eat a bowl of chicken soup as the vegetables included have good nutritional benefits. For example, the carrots contain beta-carotene and the celery contains vitamin C, both of which support the immune system and fight off infections. In addition, the onions in chicken soup provide antioxidants which help to reduce inflammation and act as an anti-histamine.
Do you take any precautions to avoid getting sick?
I do not do anything too drastic to avoid getting sick, but as a general rule I do take vitamin C all year round and vitamin D during the winter months because of  increasing evidence which shows that we have lower levels at this time of year. These are both essential vitamins which will help nourish our bodies, boost our immunity and stop us from feeling run down.
In addition, I also ensure that I have a flu jab annually to protect myself from the virus.

Which cold and flu remedies do you swear by? Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids increase airflow and protect lungs from colds and respiratory infections. To keep myself healthy over the winter season I make sure my diet is packed full of omega 3 and eat oily fish like salmon and mackerel regularly.
I also believe that vitamin D is absolutely critical for a strong immune system (as well as many other things such as skin health, bone health and reproductive health) and according to research in the UK at least half the UK’s white population, up to 90 per cent of the multi-ethnic population and a quarter of all children in the UK have a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is also hard to obtain from food, which is why it is a must that people supplement with it and personally, I feel everyone should be supplementing with vitamin D in the winter months. How do you get rid of a cold fast? My immediate go-to whenever I feel the slightest whiff of a cold, is always a good quality zinc supplement. One particular study published in the Cochrane Library, stated that when zinc supplements are administered within 24 hours of onset of symptoms, it reduces the duration and severity of the common cold in healthy people. When supplemented for at least five months, it reduces cold incidence, school absenteeism and prescription of antibiotics in children.  Me and my husband travel a lot with work, and literally carry this with us at all times and rarely get colds. In general, having a healthy diet filled with colourful fruits, vegetables, whole grains and good sources of protein are essential especially in the winter so as to maintain a strong immune system so the body can do its job of healing or fighting off illnesses associated with the winter. I ensure I include foods rich in vitamin C , vitamin D and zinc as well as prebiotics such as garlic, and probiotics such as fermented foods in the winter as they help in supporting our immune system. Colds are generally self limiting illnesses so whilst the symptoms can be soothed with hot drinks like lemon, ginger and a bit of Manuka honey, the body gets rid of it by itself, bearing in mind the vital nutrients from such a mixture in supporting the immune system. Fruit smoothie in the morning, making sure to go to gym for weights and spinning class two to three times a week to battle the blues. High intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise releases endorphins in the brain and makes you feel less depressed.
Trying to get plenty of light helps to avoid Seasonal Affective Disorder – if you’re unable to get outside you can buy a special lamp for this. Consider supplements with Vitamin D. 50% of us in UK in winter are deficient in Vitamin D so this is essential. I also eat hearty meals, particularly like casseroles packed with vegetables and flavour, as winter warmers.
What are your three go-tos for getting rid of a cold?
Plenty of sleep. Going to bed early with good sleep hygiene, such as avoiding being on your phone/ laptop before going to bed, is the key to allowing your immune system to fight infection. Making sure you are eating enough vegetables in your diet to get essential vitamins particularly vitamin C.
Paracetamol helps you get through the day and keeps symptoms of cold at bay. Take regularly when you’re under the weather; 1g every six hours, maximum four times a day or if you weigh less than 50Kg then 1 tablet (500mg) four times a day.
Steam inhalation and steroid nasal sprays can help clear the sinuses (steroid nasal sprays are safe to use reasonably long term as they work topically and not much is absorbed in your body).
Do you take any precautions or supplements to avoid getting sick?
A pill-combo using zinc, magnesium, vitamin C and Q10, if I feel like I’m getting unwell, works for me but no scientific evidence at this point. In winter I may need a Vitamin D supplementation if I’m not getting enough sunlight. Making sure to get plenty of sleep – the main factor for getting a cold is lack of sleep with a lack of an immune system, drinking in moderation – again as excessive alcohol can make you more likely to get a cold and weaken the immune system, keeping up with exercise to boost your immune system and make you less likely to get a cold.

Which winter health remedies do you swear by?
Healthy diet and lifestyle always come first! Get enough sleep, avoid excess stress, wrap up warm when going out, wash hands regularly etc.
For supplements, vitamin C, vitamin D and an adaptogen such as Panax ginseng, Siberian ginseng or Ashwagandha help to maintain good immunity against infections, especially when you are feeling stressed, so that even if you are exposed to a respiratory virus, your body is more likely to fight it off so you don’t develop symptoms. 
What are your 3 go-to’s for getting rid of a cold?
Pelargonium sidoides root extract is my number 1 remedy  – this herbal remedy is more effective against colds, sore throat, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis and sinusitis than anything I could prescribe as a doctor. If you keep nothing else in your winter first aid cabinet it should be Pelargonium. Start taking it as soon as symptoms start and they will be gone within 24 hours. Keep taking Pelargonium for three days after symptoms resolve to stop them coming back.
Olbas Oil is brilliant for clearing congestion and helping you breathe at night. I’ve recently discovered a lovely natural alternative to rub around the nose, called Kotu Baym which clears the nose as well as stopping soreness – gentle enough for babies, too. 
Hot Toddy – the mixture of whisky, hot water, lemon juice and manuka honey last thing at night makes you feel almost human again and allows you to sleep.

I take Healthspan vitamin D 50mcg supplements, Siberian ginseng (Sun Eleuthero) and take extra vitamin C  during winter as viruses cannot replicate as efficiently in cells with good vitamin C levels.

For what I had read before going to Cuba I was expecting that a month there would be quite expensive, and definitely can be, but you can also travel on a tight budget.
I spent an average of 23€ a day, but I traveled with another person, so for solo travellers  this amount would be higher for sure, and of course everyone travels differently,  so no one ever has the same travel budget. I just put mine here as a reference, so you know that’s possible.
First tip, never take a no for an answer, it’s important to negotiate, and it’s normal to ‘argue’ and ‘get upset’, always always speak out, if the situation is not fair or reasonable. Other wise you will be paying more than in Switzerland or Norway.
Be prepared to sometimes be ignored in a cuban shop and to be always the last one to be served (but not in a touristic place) 😉
👉🏽 Money
Cuba has 2 different currencies – Cuban Peso (CUP) also known as moneda nacional MN and Cuban Convertible Peso (CUC)  (25CUP = $1 USD =1CUC). Foreigners CAN (and should) use CUP it is not illegal, so don’t believe if someone tells you the opposite.
Probably the best tip I can give is NEVER ask the prices in Cuba, expect Cubans to give you always the prices in CUCs and to see other tourists using only this currency. When you ask they know you are not sure… Assume always that the prices are in Pesos Cubanos (CUP), and pay for it straight away, the only exceptions are the touristic restaurants and bars, long-distance taxis , hotels/casas and tour operators, but you’ll realise that they always write CUC in front of the price. So if you see a menu (carta) with coffee – 1, it means that the price is 1CUP (about 4 cents) and not 1CUC ($1 dollar).
You only need CUCs to pay for: long distance transports, accommodation, museums, touristic spots and water. (0.5L – 45CUC;   1.5L – 0.70CUC;  5L – 1.90CUC) for everything else use CUPs. We came across some upsetting situations in Trinidad and Havana when buying water, the staff from the supermarket didn’t have the prices in the water and despite the fact that we knew the price and gave the correct amount they asked for much more. Step your foot down and argue loudly so everybody now what they are doing,  they don’t just ask for a few more cents, they ask for a 1,5L 3 o 4 CUC.. what they are doing is ilegal and you can ask to speak with the manager or even call the number that is on the wall for the costumer service. Demand that they scan your product and give you a receipt like they do when serving a cuban.
Always choose places that have the prices displayed, it’s a current practice, so when they don’t have it, they will probably create a new price just for you. (check out the pictures below they all have prices displayed in CUPs and keep in mind that $1=25CUP)
The prices don’t vary much around the island, so having the average food prices in mind should help (all prices in CUPs):

I brought cash to fund my whole trip so don’t really know how reliable are the ATM, but saw a couple in each capital district.
Exchanging money it’s easy but like everything in Cuba takes time and queuing outside. Ask for the CADECA the official place to exchange money and of course don’t do it in the street. It is possible to exchange U.S. Dollars, Euros, British Pounds, and a few others. But U.S. Dollar is by far the worst one, because it gets charged a 10% fee in addition to the exchange rate.
Exchange your money to Convertible Cuban Pesos (CUC) first and then some Convertibles(CUC) to Cuban Pesos (CUP). (Don’t forget to take your passport).
Paying in convertibles (CUC) and getting change in CUPs is the most popular trick so familiarize yourself with the money and always check your change.
👉🏽Where to stay 
The cheapest options are the casas particulares, a kind of airbnb or guest house. Finding a casa, is extremely easy, there are plenty available everywhere, we didn’t book any house in advance and was always easy and quick to find one. Simply walk around the area you want, knock on the door of a house with the blue sign and ask to see a room, then decide if you want to stay there or see the next one.
We always negotiate our price to fit our budget that was €20 per night and we found always a house that was willing to do that price for us, even in the more touristic areas like Havana, or Trinidad, so don’t get afraid when they start saying that is the high season, all the casas are full, etc.. Cuba truly has an huge offer.
Breakfast is normally not included and the price is between 5-6CUC, but to be fair you will eat exactly the same out for a fraction of that price, so we never ate at the casas.
👉🏽Eating and drinking 
Someone that I met there told me “we are not here to eat” when I was complaining about the food, and lack of options…. and that really needs to be the attitude, because cuban food is by far the worst I ever came across.  In the other hand its ridiculously cheap and why to worry about eating when you can drink 🙂 natural fruit juice of course 😉
The lowest-cost options are at street-side stores they normally have sandwiches, pizza, rice with beans, pasta, natural fruit juice and coffee, but not all the options at the same time.
They have two types of places, the state-run restaurants and the particulares, the last one is a bit more expensive than the other one but not really a big difference, it’s like instead of paying 1 dollar for your meal you will pay 2, only if that private restaurants (particular) serves locals.
Cooking your own food its not an option at all, but what we did to complement our meals was to buy fruits like avocado and mango and ask at the restaurantes to cut it for us.
Fresh juices are amazing and very cheap, if you have an empty water bottle with you, ask them to refill it with juice (1,2,3.. cups) it’s a normal practice between locals.
We never got sick from the food or drinks (only feed up😂)
👉🏽Being Vegan (or) Vegetarian 
Well where to start… to say the true, being vegan in Cuba can be very hard when you are traveling on a budget, and off the beaten path.
While you always have the option of eating at the casas particulares, that with your guidance will be able to cook something for you,  it’s not the cheapest option or any different from the things you can eat outside. Cooking is also not an option, because they will not allow you to use their kitchens.
Carrying a knife, is truly a life saver, you can just  eat some salad or fruit, when you want. Cubans sell seasonal fruit and vegetables using street carts, it is more likely to find them during the morning. Fresh fruit is by far one of the top foods you can eat, the most common are guavas, papayas, pineapples, bananas, mangoes, avocados, mamoncillo and coconuts.
Here are some names of the most common food, if you don’t speak Spanish it would be important to get familiarised with them:
arroz (rice)
ensalada (salad)
frijoles (beans)
arroz morro or moros y cristianos  (black beans + rice)
fruta (fruit)
maduros (fried sweet plantains)
tostones (fried green plantains)
Yuca frita or cassava (root vegetable)
pan (bread)
papas (potatoes)
Batido (milkshake)
jugo natural (natural fruit juice)
Cucurucho (desert with coconut and pineapple)
pudin or flan (pudding flan)
Pasteles dulces (bakery)
mani (peanuts)
More touristic places, like Havana, Trinidad or Viñales will have better option than the rest of the country, but not much..
So far, for me, Cuba was the hardest country to eat well as a vegan (sorry to say that if you are planning a trip to cuba 😆) You will definitely not to starve but you will get sick of the same food everyday, specially if you are travelling like me for a long time, by the end I couldn’t think about eating more of the same again 😫 the smile in my face holding the food was just for the photos  hihi 😂

Mediterranean Diet With Menu Plan For Better Health
The Mediterranean diet is a great diet that can protect you from heart disease, diabetes, and obesity (1). How The Mediterranean Diet Works
Our lifestyles have played a major role in the rise of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and other lifestyle-related diseases. The Mediterranean diet is followed mostly in southern Italy, Spain, Greece, Ikaria, Sardinia, France, Portugal, and Croatia and it has been found that obesity andrelated diseases are less predominant in these places. Researchers have found that the Mediterranean diet can promote long-term weight loss, help regulate blood pressure, and reduce blood lipid levels (4). This diet encourages you to eat more natural and wholesome foods. Fruits, veggies, and whole grains are great sources of dietary fiber and help improve digestion and bowel movement, lower LDL cholesterol, and regulate blood glucose levels. You will eat lean protein and minimum amount of red meat, which makes this diet extremely heart-friendly. Yogurt and cheese are great sources of calcium, good gut bacteria, and protein. Legumes are rich in protein and dietary fiber. Nuts are loaded with protein and healthy fats that prevent inflammation-induced weight gain. You will need to eliminate all kinds of processed and artificial foods that are high in sodium, sugar, and trans fats. And most importantly, this diet emphasizes the importance of having lunch or dinner with family or friends, as they do in Mediterranean culture, which helps reduce stress and depression. So, this is how the Mediterranean diet works. And now, let me tell you about a few basic guidelines before you start this diet.
Mediterranean Diet Basic Guidelines
Eat plant-based food like vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and whole grains.
Eat fish and poultry twice every week.
Eat red meat 2-3 times a month.
Use herbs and spices to make your food flavorful and tasty.
Use olive oil instead of vegetable oil, butter, lard, margarine, etc.
Avoid consuming processed food.
Consume limited salt and sugar.
Indulge in a sweet treat once a week.
Drink wine in moderation.
Enjoy your meal with family or friends.

Meals What To Eat Early Morning (6:00 – 7:30 am) 1 teaspoon fenugreek soaked (overnight) in 2 cups of water Breakfast (6:45 – 8:15 am) Options:
l Kale and celery smoothie + 1 boiled egg+4 almonds
l Vegetable quinoa + ½ grapefruit + 4 almonds
Mid-Morning (9:30 – 10:45 am) Options:
l 1 bowl fruit salad/ freshly pressed fruit juice
l 1 cup fresh coconut water
Lunch (12:30 – 1:30 pm) Options:
l Tuna salad/tofu salad with light dressing + 1 cup buttermilk
l Grilled fish with blanched veggies and a small cup hummus + 1 cup buttermilk
Evening Snack (3:30 – 4:30 pm) 1 cup green tea + 1 small cup cucumber (spice up with lime juice and herbs) Dinner (7:00 – 7:30 pm) Options:
l Kidney bean with brown rice with a side of veggies + 1 small cup yogurt
l Mushroom stuffed capsicum with whole wheat pita bread + 1 small cup yogurt
Remember, this diet plan is not carved on a rock. You can substitute the foods listed in this chart with other foods. But make sure you stick to the guidelines of this diet plan. 1. Easy Mediterranean Chickpea Salad

Ingredients
2 cups chickpea, washed, soaked, and drained
1 cup halved cherry tomatoes
1 cup seeded and chopped cucumber
½ cup chopped red bell pepper
⅔ cups crumbled feta cheese
½ cup chopped red onion
½ cup pitted and sliced black olive
½ cup olive oil
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon dried oregano
5 tablespoons lime juice
½ teaspoon black pepper
Salt to taste
 How To Prepare
In a small bowl, mix olive oil, lime juice, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper.
In a large bowl, mix the chickpeas, tomato, cucumber, onion, olives, bell pepper, and crumbled feta.
Drizzle the dressing and give it a quick toss.
Refrigerate it for 10 minutes before eating.
2. Mediterranean Fish

Serves – 2
Ingredients
4 halibut or basa fillets
⅔ cup chopped tomato
½ cup chopped red onion
1 tablespoon lime juice
¼ cup olive oil
¼ cup capers
½ cup pitted and sliced olives
1 tablespoon Greek seasoning
Salt to taste
How To Prepare
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a bowl, mix tomato, onion, capers, olive, lime juice, olive oil, and salt.
Place the basa or halibut fillets on an aluminum foil and rub the Greek seasoning on it.
Now, spoon the tomato mix over the basa or halibut fillets.
Take another piece of aluminium foil and seal the fish.
Bake for 30-40 minutes.
3. Mediterranean Eggplant Parmesan

Serves – 6
Ingredients
2 large eggplants
½ cup grated parmesan cheese
¾ cup grated mozzarella cheese
3 egg whites
3 tablespoons water
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
¼ cup slivered basil
2 ⅔ cup tomato puree
1 cup breadcrumbs
Salt to taste
Cooking spray
How To Prepare 
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Coat an 8 by 11 inches baking dish with cooking spray.
Make thick slices of the eggplant.
In a bowl, whisk egg whites and water.
In another bowl, combine parmesan, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper.
Dip the eggplant slices into the egg mixture and then coat with the breadcrumb. Shake off the extra.
Place the breadcrumb coated eggplants on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Turn over and bake for 10-15 minutes more, until both sides are golden brown.
Now, combine tomato puree and slivered basil and spread half of this sauce in the bottom of the cooking spray coated baking dish.
Place the eggplant slice and then top it with the remaining tomato puree.
Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes.
