THE CHILDREN OF KING GEORGE III & QUEEN CHARLOTTE OF THE UNITED KINGDOM
The royal couple welcomed a total of fifteen children together, but sadly not all of them survived into adulthood. Two, Prince Octavius and Prince Alfred, passed away in infancy, at the ages of 2 and 4, respectively, from smallpox. Later on, Princess Amelia also sadly died young, albeit it at the age of 27, after succumbing to tuberculosis. As for when their brood started to arrive, it seems George and Charlotte wasted no time in getting to know one another and less than a year into their marriage, on 12 August 1762

On this day in history, March 4th, in 1821, Princess Elizabeth of Clarence died of an intro-susception of the bowels. She was a little over two months old, and was the daughter of the future William IV and Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen.
She had been born prematurely, and was quickly baptized the day of her birth. She was christened Elizabeth Georgina Adelaide, with the initial choice of her parents being the name Georgina. Her uncle, George IV, wanted her to be called Elizabeth instead so Georgina would become her second name.
Her parents had already suffered the loss another daughter, Charlotte, who died on the day of her birth, and a miscarriage. Two years after Elizabeth’s death, Adelaide gave birth to stillborn twin boys, and possibly had another miscarriage that same year. Ultimately, they had no surviving children and when William died, the throne passed to his niece, Queen Victoria.

British coins showing the succession of Royalty from James I to Charles III. Before Oliver Cromwell, the profile on the coin could be facing either way but after Charles II each monarch would face towards the previous monarch. It is said that Edward VIII wanted his profile the other way to show off the parting of his hair. As he abdicated, the coins were never officially issued and the tradition continued. As good coins were never withdrawn from circulation, you could often have a set of royal lineage in your pocket. In 1971 the coins became decimalised and all old coins were withdrawn.

”The youngest of families tends to be treated with special tenderness, and that was the case here as well. Both the parents and the entire Danish people loved the young Prince [Waldemar] and Princess [Thyra], […] As also the youngest of the capital's "favourites", Princess Tyra, left her childhood home to take her place by the Duke of Cumberland's side, there was sorrow mixed in the festive atmosphere.”
Kong Christian IX; Et mindeskrift by J.C Jorgennsen & co, 1906.
