loki spoilers
it hurt to watch, but honestly i’m glad they showed loki watching his future. his character development after the avengers was practically scrapped (after infinity war & endgame), but that gave him the perspective he needed, i guess? idk if i’m making sense but yeah.
sidenote: “you killed your mother” was so outta pocket :’) marvel chooses pain again and again
this… went all over the place. probably didn’t even respond correctly to the reaction, i fear. and i’m sorry. i tried.
my messy thoughts below 👇🏼
Tumblr media
mobius showing him how his actions led to his mother’s death was most definitely a low blow. at that point, frigga was the only one who gave loki the love and attention he desperately searched for in other people/situations, so mobius telling loki that he ruined his chance at happiness cut deep. it isn’t until he goes back and finishes watching his sacred timeline journey that he realizes that mobius is wrong, or at least omitted a vital piece of information.
Tumblr media
loki does find happiness beyond frigga.
he finds it in odin; we can all agree that odin wasn’t the best parent (mega understatement), but his dying words expressed how proud he was of his sons. his sons. thor AND loki. that inclusion must’ve been a huge deal for loki to finally be recognized on the same level as thor, especially coming from the man who in the past made it blatantly clear he preferred one over the other.
Tumblr media
he find it valkyrie and bruce/hulk — as a revenger. loki has always been the lone wolf type, so him teaming up with unlikely acquaintances for the greater good was a huge step for him. he must’ve not realized how many walls he put up until he was forced to break them down, even finding himself having fun working with others rather than going rogue (“your savior is here” will never not be iconic”).
Tumblr media
most importantly, he finds it in thor. god i can’t tell you how fucking hard loki and thor’s reconciliation as not only friends but also as siblings hit me on a personal level. no matter how close or distanced you are, there will be nothing more painful than the yearning of wanting to be there for your sibling and vice versa. that’s what loki always wanted from thor, and that’s the point they finally get to in ragnarok. you can literally see loki beaming as he sees himself at peace with thor. the dream he’s been subconsciously chasing after has finally come true. this is where he’s always wanted to be, surrounded by the people he cares about, the people who care about him in return.
Tumblr media
what ultimately fucked him up was seeing how he only had that happiness for a short time. the minute he found his true place in life, it’s taken away. he died a hero but unfortunately at the cost of experiencing more of those happy moments with his family and friends. that (along with realizing how insignificant the stones are compared to the power of the tva) what pushes him to reevaluate every aspect of himself, from his character to his values to his goals. he’s realizing that he can be a better person sooner than later, he can have those precious moments sooner than later, he can have that love sooner than later. he’s seen how these experiences shaped him to be a better person, now it’s only a matter and choice of applying them to become that person.
loki’s already started being honest about why he’s unhappy, but seeing what does make him happy opens the door for a deeper, sooner development. it’s still unclear whether loki will be returned to follow his “correct” path on the sacred timeline after he helps capture his rogue self and/or if he’ll forget everything he went through, but for now this loki will most definitely go through some changes and grow to value something more than the empty dream he thought he needed to chase to be happy.
