I have a late hot take Tuesday take: Ringo is the real PR Beatle. I have nothing against the guy but I have noticed nothing sticks to him in the way it does for the others. Reading Beatles bios, he's often described as the least communicative and even stand-offish. In many photos and videos, including Get Back, he looks like he's having the worst time of his life. There's been rumors over the years of him being grumpy to fans, not paying well, and there's the infamous "peace and love no more autographs" video. In his individual parts of Anthology he's subdued, monotone, and serious. And YET. Who has the reputation for being the stick-in-the-mud? George.

He outright admitted to almost beating Barbara to death and it sounds like the last years with Maureen got dicy yet who is known as the wife-beater? John.

Paul doing stuff for kids and playing up to cameras is cringe. Ringo doing it is charming. While Paul's response to John's death was awkward, Ringo came across as admirably vulnerable. Paul dying his hair? Pathetic. Ringo? You mean the guy who's somehow looked the same for 30 years?

He moved to Monaco to avoid taxes, was regularly photographed with different women, was one of the most notorious partiers in the 70s, has questionable political opinions, and was drunk in pretty much every 80s appearance but he narrated Thomas the Tank Engine, sang Yellow Submarine and loved his old bandmates so he maintains this cuddly approachable image. Ringo is down-to-earth!

His twitter is also a masterclass in PR.

That's not to say I think the way Ringo expresses his feelings is calculated or that all of this was necessarily intentional but I don't believe it's an accident either. So it's not fair Paul is the only one called out on it.

i know you're not trying to cancel him, and not to dunk on you, anon, because i love that you sent this (an Actual For Real Hot Take), but this reads a little like a Your Fave Is Problematic callout post where "nearly beating his wife to death" sits alongside innocuous things like "quit the band and went on vacation" lmao

i mean, i do totally agree with your point as a whole that ringo gets away with a lot in terms of his public image. he definitely does. i feel like of all of them, ringo gets talked about like a rounded complex human being the least.

Hot take, but chismosa (gossiping) culture is not actually bad. Part of being in community and building trust with those around you is gossiping! It’s one of the ways we all stay connected and support one another. This individualistic idea of hiding your life and never talking about anyone else is helping to tear down our connectivity.

This is in the same vein of people thinking that helping your loved ones should never come at your expense. Sometimes helping people is going to be inconvenient. Being there for people can be mentally difficult. And standing up for or supporting people can be uncomfortable. That doesn’t make it bad or wrong.

Community is full of people. People who are annoying, messy, and difficult. But they are also wonderful, lovely, creative, and caring!

It’s okay to share your life with others.

Hate how stories about a human character getting romantically involved with magical demon-fairy-vampire-elf-etc always frame the nonhuman partner as, like, universally desirable and an obviously appealing choice instead of actually engaging with the fact that the normal-average main character is a bit of a freak for being so down to clown with what is essentially a completely different species

5his is very self indulgent cuz I fucking hate the cold (anything below 70°F) and i5s been in the 50s for the past week. How do u think the cast would handle the cold. (Actual cold not my southern ass)

Best to worst:

Sonia: I always imagined her home country was in a colder area, idk why, maybe the name? She's pretty content in the cold and knows how to dress for it and deal with it. Everyone else is pathetic and shakey and she's glowing with that Frosty Freshness

Akane: Being cold means you should just move around and eat more! I think she's not unaccustomed to being cold, just might need a reminder that you can also just dress heavier (but I feel like she'd really hate heavy resteictive winter clothes, that's the worst part for her, not the cold).

Haijme: Hes smart and observant and knows how to counter the cold, but also gets lost in his head and forgets about it every year. Not a huge fan of it but its whatever. Chronically falls for "oh it's not that cold, I dont need a hat or mittens," is outside for ten minutes, "fuck."

Souda: Would be better about the cold if he didn't , a) forget to dress for it because he's got his head in the clouds, b) need his hands not-aching for working with smaller tools, c) work with freezy cold metals all the time, d) remember to dress for it but then sweats, takes off his coat, sits still for 40 minutes, sweat gets cold, frozen. God can you imagine having to handle cold metal in winter?? Ew.

Fuyuhiko: He's small, he has a buzz cut so there's no heat on his head, he doesn't know how to dress for it since he grew up so rich and only owns fancy clothes that don't help, he doesn't like how warmer clothes make him look like a kid so he goes out with like. One (1) scarf. And refuses to admit that he should've dressed better. Bitches for hours.

Hot Take Tues: Paul has a beautiful voice but I hate how often he wastes it on doing stupid voices. I also think he gets away with a lot because his voice is enjoyable enough to overcome a mediocre song where half the lyrics are him going "Doo duh dadadaaa".

Worst example of this is Mumbo from Wild Life. Singlehandedly tanks that whole fucking album for me, that voice makes me rage. He's trying to do Monkberrry voice but instead it just sucks

But you're right I think. His voice is just so gorgeous and his melodies are often so transcendent that sometimes it's easier to just not think about the words that don't quite fit. I don't think I've ever talked about it on here, but I think that's why Early Days doesn't work for me. It's such a beautiful song musically, but the age in his voice really shows on that song and it kind of exposes the lyrics as... well, not the strongest, imo.
