Over schoudervrijheid.

Even een foto uit de oude doos gevist, toen @horsesfromwonderland Zou nog woest en onbestuurbaar was. Maar man, wat kon ze toen spectaculair lopen. Het zadel dat ze toen had gaf haar heel veel schoudervrijheid, dat kun je hier zien aan de ruimte die er nog over is tussen zadel en schouder van het paard.

Ik dacht vanmiddag aan deze foto toen ik voor de zoveelste keer een advertentie las met:

'Ik zoek een zadel, het moet veel schoudervrijheid hebben.'

En vervolgens de reactie: 'Ik heb er een te koop met heel veel schoudervrijheid!'

Alsof schoudervrijheid een vaststaand gegeven is, alsof er een merk of type gegarandeerd altijd op elk paard schoudervrijheid geeft.

Was het maar zo simpel!

Want schoudervrijheid heeft met het wel of niet goed passen van een bepaald zadel op een bepaald paard te maken, niet met een merk of type zadel. Hetzelfde zadel dat voor het ene paard enorm veel schoudervrijheid betekent, kan dan ook voor het andere paard wel helemaal op de schouder liggen en een drama zijn. Ga dus bij het kopen van een zadel nooit af op wat een verkoper zegt maar PAS het zadel eerst, of het jouw paard ook echt die beloofde schoudervrijheid geeft. (wel of niet met een zadelpasser is natuurlijk aan jou) Het kan nog al eens tegenvallen, is mijn ervaring.
