"you need to download the app, pleaseee, i need to talk about these hot boys with someone," your friend pleaded through the phone.

you sigh in defeat, finally giving in. she has been bugging you to download some otome game called, 'paradox' for the past few days.

"fine, but if it's horrible and the guys are ugly i'll delete it."

"it isn't horrible i promise, and the guys are realllyyy cute in the game."

"i'll text you after i play it, okay?"

"you better."

you end the call and open the app store, looking up the app. you find the app pretty quickly because of it's stark differences from the other otome games.

the icon is a plain white clock with a black background and the preview pictures didn't even show any of the love interests. the pictures are just screenshots of some chats and strange quotes with clocks on them.

no wonder only forty people have played it.

currently it's 3 AM for you but you don't care for sleep. besides, talking to (hopefully) hot fictional guys does sound appealing.

once the app finishes downloading you tap on the icon to open it. a notification pops up and tells you that you have to update the app first.

isn't the update supposed to go along with downloading it? stupid phone.

you go back to the app store and press update. within a few seconds the app is updated and you open it.

your screen turns black for a second before fading out to reveal a boy with green hair, eyes, and a pale complexion.

"do you have any pictures of you as a baby?" the green haired boy asks while scanning your room again only to find no pictures of little you.

"i think they are in the attic, i'm not sure.." you answer, not paying much mind to him as you continue to play on your phone.

the boy lets out a huff and jumps on you, crushing you with his body weight. "i want to see them, let's go to the attic and find them," he insists.

"fine! just get off of me first," you exclaim, roughly pushing off the boy who is two times your size. the freckled boy gets off of you quickly, he was practically bouncing from excitement. you weren't sure what he was so excited about. both of you were just going to find your baby pictures.

once you stood up your friend was pulling you out of the door and urging you to lead you both to the attic. you never understood how he could be so energetic all the time.

"izuku, can you pull the string? i can't reach it."

the boy does so without objection. a short staircase appears before the two of you when pulling the string. you enter first with izuku following after.

"you can check those boxes on the right while i check the boxes on the left," you suggest. he nods and begins searching.

"i really hope we find them, i want to see some cute baby pictures of you," izuku admits, feverishly looking through each box.

you ignore him and the warmth spreading across your cheeks. izuku has always said sweet things to you but you still haven't gotten use to it.

you push the box you looked through away to get to another box when something catches your eye. the wall in front of you has a faint outline of a..door? it was quite small.

you touch the outline of it with the tip of your fingers, rubbing off the dust that was hiding it. your parents never told you that there was a secret room in the house. did they even know that there was one?

"izuku, i found something." you couldn't look away from the door for some reason. it had this sort of pull to it. your hands were itching to open it.

"did you find the pictures?" izuku walks toward your sitting figure, hope brightening his eyes.

"no..but i found this secret door. let's try to open it," you look for any sort of knob or handle only to find none. there is a faint outline of a keyhole though, it was covered with wallpaper.

"i really wanted to see those pictures but they can wait..how should we open it?" izuku takes a seat next to you and scoots closer to the door to examine it. "ow!"

"what's wrong?"

"this loose nail just snipped me," izuku points at the loose nail and board in front of him. there was a small glint of something underneath the loose board.

you pull the old board off to find a aged key underneath it. "wow- you unintentionally found it without even trying."

you turned your attention back on the small outline of the door and scratch away at the wallpaper with the key until it fully went in. it was difficult turning the key but with some help from izuku you both managed to do it. an audible click sounds and the small door opens outward.

inside is complete darkness. you are hesitant to peak your head in because you are afraid of some sort of insect jumping on you.

"can you find us a flashlight? i don't think it's a good idea for us to go in without one.." you explain. one part of you didn't want to go in and the other did.

you felt both excited and scared of what could possibly be discovered. izuku hands you a flashlight after a few short minutes of searching and you click it on, slowly entering the little room first on all fours. izuku follows you without hesitation.

"i'm surprised it isn't dusty in here and infested with insects by now," you said, continuing onward with a little more energy than before now that you don't have to worry about possibly getting attacked by spiders.

it felt like the room or more like tunnel was never ending. the walls being a pitch black didn't help that thought. after what felt like twenty minutes of endless crawling, you notice light peeking out from another door a few meters from you.

you quickly crawl to it and push as hard as you could. the door finally caving in when the both of you pushed your weight on it.

izuku falls out of the door and tumbled onto the ground ungracefully with you. the both of you stood up, stretching your limbs and dusting off your clothes.

"how did we get here?" taking in your surroundings you knew immediately that you both aren't at your house. the room the two of you are in is lavished in decorative furniture. the walls are a creamy white and the furniture has a complimenting black and white color scheme. it looks like something out of a fairy tail.

"this is weird," izuku looks around, equally confused. how did you get here? how could that small door connect to this room?

you noticed the room had another door. the room didn't look like it was just one room. you open the door a few inches wide and take a peek outside. you couldn't believe it.

outside of the door, was a wide hallway with many other doors aligning the walls. everything just as decorative as the room.

"this can't be real!" you open the door wide and leave the room, izuku following. "this doesn't make sense.."

the two of you marvel at your new surroundings, it was like you both got sucked into a fantasy book.

you were so immersed in your surroundings that you didn't even hear a pair of foot steps approaching.

a body crashes into yours causing you to fall harshly on your back.

"i-i'm so sorry! please forgive me..(l/n)? oh this is bad- i'm truly sorry!" a blue haired boy with long droopy bunny ears apologizes profusely. he extends a hand out for you and you take it hesitantly.

his whole appearance is quite unique. rich dark blue hair, pale skin (though it's crimson now, most likely from embarrassment), long bunny ears that are a shade darker than his hair, and troubled indigo eyes. wait, how did he know my name?

wait, how did he know your name? you never entered your name in the game..unless it synced with your Apple ID..

"it's okay, really.." you didn't really know what else to say. the poor bunny boy looks like he's going to break down and cry any moment. it oddly makes you feel sympathetic for him.

the strange boy's eyes look you up and down, seemingly checking if you are injured in anyway. it is pretty endearing.

"i'm sorry again i, uh i..." bunny boy averts his eyes to his watch and jolts up, tapping his foot nervously, "oh no, i'm late! the prince is going to be really mad..we should go now, please follow me."

without looking back, bunny boy starts to walk away. prince? could they just be some weird cosplayers? sense bunny boy could give you more answers you follow him with izuku.

"i don't know if we should trust him.." izuku whispers to you before giving bunny boy a quick glance.

what will you say?

‣ "he doesn't seem harmful.."

‣ "yeah, you're right..but he seems to know what's going on."

Pairing: Logicality

Warnings: There's surgery mention and a mention of an incident in a playground, nothing specific or graphic.

Summary: Logan has been testing out the new advanced technology that had just been created for surgery. Patton, a doctor at the same hospital, finds the machine one night and starts talking to it daily. Logan finds it out in the weirdest way, and crushing ensues.

A/N: Hi name's Ellie and I find inspiration in TV advertisings. Okay this was supposed to be a drabble but I can't physically write less than a thousand words. (pardon me I can't put the read more on mobile.) This is also the first fic I post here so I'll just let you read in peace while I will disappear in fear. (Look I rhymed) Feel free to point out any typo or mistake, English isn't my first language and I'm always one for learning! Thank you so much and without any further ado, enjoy your reading.

Logan finally found relief in the comfortable chair in front of his desk. It had been a little over a month since they started using advanced technology at work, which permitted Logan to attend meetings and to his job at the same time.

They didn't really take into account that being a surgeon wasn't exactly a piece of cake and doubling his work-related stress didn't help at all.

But Logan had never minded pushing himself to the limit in order to save lives or learn something new. (A bad habit that he had been dragging along ever since youth.)

The "machine of the future", as they liked to call it, was this robotic device that could be controlled wireless from a long distance. All Logan had to do was turn his phone on and a projector would show him what the robot was seeing and he could interact with the projection.

For instance, there had been cases in which he was required both at an updating course on new discoveries and also at the operating room to operate on one of his patients.

With this new object, he could help his team while traveling, as soon as he found a quiet place.

Quite the jewel, wasn't it?

That was the reason a hidden camera was implemented in the machine, it functioned both while in use and while seemingly asleep. If anything touched it, it would send a notification to the database Logan had access to on his laptop.

He was used to check on it daily, of course. Especially at 2 a.m., when he was definitely not supposed to be asleep. Now, he wasn't messing with his circadian system, just touching it up a little to see-

« A notification? »

His heart started pounding as panic drove its way through his chest; his mind, though, tried to find all the possible positive outcomes.

It could have been just an incident, right? Someone moved it or touched it by accident. There was nothing to be worried about, or else it would have automatically sent a call to the police.

Yes, it had a complicated security system, but it was needed, considering it was the only device existing at the time.

Logan scrolled through his database and found the videotapes section. He checked on the least recent video; they got deleted by the system monthly, so he was used to only check on them once a month unless an issue like that occurred.

He went through the frame previews and stopped when he saw a figure at the back of the room. The video started playing.

Logan could only watch as the figure became a more distinct man with wavy hair who paced around the room.

There was something familiar about him, but maybe it was just the glasses he was wearing that oddly reminded him of his own pair.

The mysterious man (actually, he was probably a doctor given his white coat) turned to the robot's direction and gasped at its sight before approaching it.

It was something, to see that scene almost as if it had been playing right in front of his eyes.

But Logan wasn't a robot.

« Oh my, what do we have here? » the man spoke in the most sugary voice Logan had ever heard. He wondered how soothing he was with distressed patients.

« This is so cool! » he paced around the object, then stopped back at its front.

« Is someone there? I'm Patton! »

Oh- That's what it was. He had worked with Patton, once or twice, but he had been on his team for a fairly short time. Wasn't he the new one around?

« Cat got your tongue? » his chuckle was so soft he could have made the maddest beast grow gentle. « Oops! You don't have one. »

Logan snorted and shook his head, was it really just this guy goofing around until the end of the tape?

He made to close the video and move onto the next ones, when Patton looked up again.

« Oh! Uhm ... whoever's behind this- because I really don't know, none bothered to answer me when I asked. » this time his snicker was embarrassed, he almost felt bad for him.

« I don't know why they think I'm dumb. I mean I got a doctorate, you can't exactly make your way through that by playing dumb, right? » Patton looked exactly where the robot's camera was hidden. Logan felt his heart skip a beat and he couldn't pinpoint whether it was out of fear or something else.

« But here I am, venting to a soulless machine. Maybe they're right. » he scratched his neck and sighed.

Logan remembered suddenly how Patton's first period of time with them was filled with simple tasks and chores. He had always thought they were just using him and not letting him unleash his potential.

Until one of the oldest doctors had to retire and some space had been made for him too.

« Anyway, to whoever is doing the awesome job behind this, I hope you know you're amazing! » Patton flashed him a toothy grin, then waved, gathered the stuff he needed and left.

Logan went through the other tapes as quickly as possible, but couldn't help but stop and listen to whatever Patton had to say in every single one of them.

The sight of his bright smile was a cathartic experience and, essentially, all Patton really did was clean some spots in the room and give both the robot and Logan a pep talk.

He didn't realize how wide he was smiling thanks to all the "I'm proud of you"s, "Your work is amazing", "Look at how marvelous you are" or "You inspire me", not until he reached the last tape and his cheeks were soaring from all the stretching.

Logan passed his hands on his face, his clock barely counting down to 3:30 a.m.

He tried to shake off the giddy feeling he felt when Patton appeared on his screen once again.

Sometimes you just need constant but simple reminders.

« Patton! Did a real good job! » he entered the room dancing and humming in his tracks. « Hey, didn't see you there! »

He approached the camera skipping along the pavement, that was the happiest he had ever seen him in those videos.

He couldn't believe that happened that day and he had missed the opportunity to see his joy at less than a couple of paces away.

« I saw the family of your patient today. » Patton sounded as if he were reminiscing about the moment.

Logan digged in his earliest memories and remembered the serious conditions of his patient: they had been victim of a terrible accident at a local playground. A mere little kid.

They had to work on the child for hours before it was safe to assume they would survive.

« I wish you could have seen the relatives. Their reaction when I delivered the news just ... Made me realize why I really love this job. » he hesitated, letting the words sink in.

« You did that. » Patton looked right into the camera but this time Logan's chest didn't feel tight.

Instead, it filled with warmth. Pleased and content.

« It's all thanks to you. » his voice trailed off as his cerulean eyes wandered around a spot Logan couldn't see.

« Oh gee, let's get you cleaned up! »

Next thing he knew, Patton had cleared some blood from the robot's surface. So that was why it sent off the notification.

Logan was glad it turned out to be nothing serious.

Just a cute and bubbly doctor that managed to start stealing his heart away without anything more than a night and video tapes. Not even his beloved surgery was needed.

Wait, what was that thought just now?

Logan closed his laptop as soon as Patton walked out of the frame.

He felt like he could have seen him if he moved, he didn't want to ruin the peaceful atmosphere Patton brought.

Afterwards, he finally dedicated himself to the thought of getting some rest for the hopefully less stressful day ahead.

Even though Logan spent the first few seconds of his sleeping time mentally smacking himself for staying up late, which he didn't actually regret, he now knew who to go to during his next coffee break.

King of Prism SSS Episode 10 (LOUIS)

So I think one of the main reasons a lot of people were confused by this episode (well other than misleading subtitles......) was because a lot of us had our own long-time theories/assumptions about what Louis is or what a Rinne is, and this episode turned out a bit different from what we were all expecting. (I got a lot of messages that were like “But I always thought that...”) I think you have to let your past assumptions go in order to take this episode in. A few of my long-time assumptions were proved wrong by this episode as well.

Although, given this post does still include statements that are my own interpretations, if you think I’m wrong about something please feel free to speak up. (But also please include evidence from Rainbow Live if applicable, etc.) I’m afraid I may have to go back and edit this post several times, especially after whenever the director starts releasing interviews about all this.

There is a tl;dr at the end, but I really hope most of you guys read all of this. I know it’s long, but the Crunchyroll subs for this episode are just....... so bad...... by far the worst....

I wasn’t really able to keep track of the the scores when I was watching this in theaters, so I actually didn’t realize what a big deal Joji’s score was until this scene at this moment. It’s why I tried to start a dialogue about it earlier.

Kinda funny how Kokoro, Mondo, Mitsuba, and Tsurugi’s scores are almost exactly the same. It makes them feel all the more like manufactured prism stars.... (not really their fault, it’s how Schwarz Rose does things....)

I’m going to skip over talking about the scene with Jin and Sanada because I think it’s best saved to discuss in a future episode. Don’t worry, we’ll deal with Jin later.

HE’S SO HAPPY AND CONFIDENT AND EVERYONE BELIEVES IN HIM........................................................................................

The translator doesn’t really understand prism sparkle, causing a lot of confusing dialogue in the subs, but I suppose that’s kind of to be expected for anyone that didn’t watch Rainbow Live.

I’m pretty sure the intended meaning here was: If they can’t fix Rinne then the prism sparkle will disappear, which would mean the end of the prism world, and the prism gods, etc.

Um no, I think they said F-type here. Rinne keeps falling in love with male stars because she’s “F-type”.

My understanding of the scene is: the Rinnes keep falling in love, which is keeping them from spreading the prism sparkle and leading to destruction of the prism world. But the gods hesitate to make an M-type prism messenger since there is a “dark history” with that. So they just change the basics (like appearance) of Rinne to be male, while keeping the rest of the coding the same, and.....

....Also restore the memory to hopefully “avoid problems”.

(The subs say “back up” here which isn’t so off, but a bit misleading. I believe the Japanese is 復原 or 復元 = restore and they do say lit: “memory”, not data. I guess the translator was thinking in computery terms.)

So this explains why Louis is male and has memories of the past, even though they say Rinnes lose their memory in Rainbow Live.

He’s a Rinne, just a different version.

And because he has those memories, he immediately begins looking for....

Turned? What do the subs mean by “turned”?

The word used here was 復活 = to be revived/resurrected.

I guess the translator thought Shine went to the dark side or something, but he went to the dark side long ago. (Either that or this was supposed to be “returned” and that was a typo.)

This scene is taking place in the Pride the Hero-ish era and the prism gods are asking Louis WTF he’s doing awakening Shine (by giving Shin the pendant and whatnot).

So. I read a while back in a director interview in the “Ready Sparking” fanbook that Louis’ mission was “to kill Shin”.

Which didn’t make any sense to me. Rinne in the flashback in Pride the Hero says she’ll find Shine again, so why would she find him just to kill him again? Why would Louis go to all the trouble of giving Shin the pendant and awakening his powers JUST TO KILL HIM?

But now in this scene it makes sense. Louis’ mission was not to kill Shin(e) to begin with. He was intended to be just a regular prism messenger trying to spread the prism sparkle UNTIL THIS SCENE when his mission changed, because he decided to divert from his mission and awaken Shine without permission.

So the spoiler I read was technically true, but not in the way it seemed. He did not specifically come like an angel of death to kill Shin(e). (A huge load off my mind.) But in between the ending of the first movie and Crazy Gonna Crazy, things changed.

Once again, misunderstanding of prism sparkle. The way they subbed this, it sounds like he was told not to expand the brilliance of Shine because what “its” refers to is not clear............ It should have been more like: “Your mission now is the elimination of Shine. There is no need to worry about spreading the prism radiance anymore.”

None of this is readable in the theater ahah... Every time I saw Part 4, I always thought I’d be able to read a bit more of it and I never did.

But yeah, I’m not sure if we knew before that Hijiri’s mother was deceased....? (Did we?)

Edit: Lol nevermind we did.

I heard some people saying that Shin(e) was a Rinne, so I just want to take a second to clarify this.

Shine is not a Rinne. Shine is a Shine: A now defunct male prism messenger program. He’s a separate program from Rinne, and they were meant to exist together. (Unlike Rinne and June, who were both Rinnes and thus caused an error by existing at the same time in the same world in Rainbow Live.)

Woah. I’m not sure, but I think they cleared up his face here to make it more obvious how much he looks like Shin...... I think I remember it being too dark to see his eyes well in the theatrical version...? ??

But anyway, the rule for prism messengers not being allowed to perform before an audience (and also the reason why) is something that was previously established in Rainbow Live.

So I think the subs were absolutely fine for this part. My understanding of it was that after erasing Shine, Rinne gets stuck in a loop where she keeps self destructing because she’s trying to find Shine.

This makes the prism gods decide to delete her memory. They also task her with guiding male stars as well, since Shine cannot fill that role anymore. This is why the Rinnes in the Rainbow Live era have their memory deleted, and what also unintentionally laid the groundwork for June to fall in love with Hijiri I believe.

And because the Rinnes kept falling in love like June is why they re-wrote the program to be Louis to try and prevent this and also gave him the memories of the past Rinnes so he will supposedly know what not to do. (But the unintended effect of this is that the memories of the past Rinnes also gave him the memory of Shine, causing Louis to search for Shine again.)

Which is why I’m confused as to why the very next scene is Louis staring at the pendant looking confused like he doesn’t recognize it or something? Because I thought from the earlier scene where Louis was created, he immediately set off looking for Shine after the Rinne -> Louis update? Am I just misreading his expression here or did I miss something? I don’t know.

Edit: OMFG IM AN IDIOT. THE SCARF. This scene isn’t taking place right after Louis was created. It’s taking place right after Crazy Gonna Crazy. He’s looking at the pendant which fell from Shin after their show. It’s meant to transition into the events which happen after Louis re-seals Shine I guess. They could have made this a bit more clear.

If you thought why the F is Kokoro here well WHY YES. YES THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE OTOHA

but putting that aside

I believe this scene was supposed to establish that Louis knows the Rainbow Live girls. He has the past memory of Rainbow Live era Rinne, but he can’t really do anything about it........... (It’s not like he can just go talk to them as Louis.....)

But his expression is so unreadable it’s hard to tell.

He gives Shin back his powers to jump geez Crunchyroll.

(But for anyone wondering how mix-ups like this can even occur in the first place, a lot of sentences in Japanese don’t have subjects in them. Therefore, if you don’t know.... the context.............................)

Maybe the translator chose this wording in the context of prism messengers being forbidden to be seen on stage. But as much as I appreciate that, it’s wrong. In this scene Louis is saying that he physically cannot perform. (He’s a fallen prism messenger now, so the rules don’t matter.)

Okay, I’ll take a moment to explain this just in case, since it is not explained outright:

When Louis broke his connection with the prism world and lost his rainbow feathers in Pride the Hero, he made the same decision June did when she ripped off her wings in Rainbow Live. He chose Shin(e) over his mission. He disobeyed orders and cut himself off from the prism gods in order to do things in his own way.

But whenever a prism messenger makes this decision, their rainbow feathers are replaced by the night dream feathers. The night dream feathers take life away.

In other words, ever since Louis pulled out his earring in Pride the Hero he has slowly began to die.....

Although this is never stated clearly within the main King of Prism series, there are several ways you could have picked up on it before this episode.

First of all, like I said before we have already been through this with June in Rainbow Live.

Second, across the Road to SSS events on Prism Rush we have steadily seen Louis getting weaker and weaker. At first he was just tired and fell asleep after the Schwarz Rose opening ceremony in Road to SSS 1, but then his deteriorating condition was made crystal clear in his Queen of Glass PR story from Road to SSS 4, in which Louis plans a date with Shin only to collapse and unwittingly stand him up.

And then eventually by the time we get to Road to SSS 9, Louis cannot even gather the energy to perform at all unless it’s with Shin. And we got this whole scene with a weakened Louis begging Shin to perform with him.

But even after their performance is a success and they win the Tokyo Kizuna Beat Climax, by the time we get to Road to SSS 10 Louis is so weak they miss the finals.

Finally, Louis being a fallen prism messenger is directly confirmed in literally the opening scene of King of Prism SSS.

So if you saw this scene and your reaction was something more like “Oh look it’s Louis... are his wings different?” and not “LOUIS IS DYING” then well.... That’s exactly why I’m always telling you guys to watch Rainbow Live.......................

Although, there was a bit of confusion over these feathers even for people who watched Rainbow Live so don’t feel too bad if that’s you. Some people thought Shin had the night dream feathers in Pride the Hero, or that Rinne had them in the end of Rainbow Live.

But no. The regular star-type feathers are dark blue too. (Generic, lower level feathers than the rainbow ones.(?))

There are only two characters to have the night dream feathers. And they are: June in Rainbow Live and Louis in SSS. Both fallen prism messengers.

And buried in the midst of all this Louis drama and deep lore is my probably favorite Joji line of all time. Seriously the Joji in this scene is best Joji and I cannot not laugh no matter how much I’m suffering.

Okay so. Here is what I do not understand about this episode and would be thrilled if someone could explain it to me. If Yamada-san knew Wataru Hibiki, then Shine could not have been sealed that long ago. I actually searched my fanbooks/magazine collection until I found one which listed Yamada-san’s age as 24. So he’s probably 25 now. So this scene could not have taken place more than 20 years ago (and even that is generous).

So what the heck was all that 1,000 years thing about? Is that just the amount of time Rinne and Shine knew each other? Or does time just not flow in a straight line for prism messengers when they are skipping in and out of different worlds?

SHIN’S PHONE BACKGROUND IS DIFFERENT

Okay you’re just going to have to believe me on this, BUT I SWEAR Shin’s phone background in the theatrical version is a photo of his hand holding the pendant. Which seems like a weird choice for a background right? But I had a theory on it that I was gonna discuss here. And that theory is that Shin wanted some kind of a background that reminded him of Louis, and that was all he had. (He couldn’t straight up use a picture of Louis because he didn’t want the other boys to question it.)

But TV version Shin, HE JUST WENT FOR IT. NO SHAME. DAMN BOY.

I can’t help but wonder why Shin still feels like he has to hide his relationship with Louis here, considering if Road to SSS is canon like it seems to be then they all saw Shin and Louis perform together at the Kizuna Beat Climax a few months ago.

But I guess in between the Prism King Cup and the start of the Prism One tensions rose with Schwarz Rose again, so maybe he’s worried about that?

Or maybe there is a possibility that maybe he would talk about it if it was anyone but Leo asking. What with how Leo is.

(I know the real reason is probably just because for plot convenience/the casual viewer hasn’t read Road To SSS but shhhhhhhhhhhh.)

I’m sorry but, man I do not like this outfit. And not because it’s basically girls clothing. If Naru wore it I would hate it too. It’s just kinda ugly IMHO. (It’s not an existing Pretty Rhythm coord is it?)

Original brand glasses Shin is cute as heck though.

I like how he just keeps his same damn clothes he’s been wearing the entire time in SSS and just glasses + hat = done. Pfft.

Shin and Louis saw a PriPara movie together.

(Prism Tours is the name of the first PriPara movie, which included different courses of Pretty Rhythm shows/flashbacks shown on different weeks in theaters back in 2015. The “flavor” Over the Rainbow animation seen in the first King of Prism movie was actually reused from Prism Tours, and increased attendance to the prism boys course of that movie including that scene was one of the main reasons King of Prism was greenlit in the first place. So I wonder if this is actually a reference to that.)

This crazy umbrella street is apparently based on a real place in Nagasaki (nowhere near Tokyo).

I just happened to catch a Tweet about it right after Part 4 came out.

So..... I actually wasn’t as excited for Shin and Louis’ date as you would think I’d be. I spent a while thinking about it and I came up with a couple reasons. First of all, even though this is the first date they have had in the main series, in the side materials.... they date all the time. Like seriously! In my mind they have already been dating for years so this was like just another date.

Second.... honestly...... I don’t really ship Shin and Louis all that much anymore. Or at least not in the way I used to. My feelings about them peaked somewhere in the Pride the Hero era, and have been quietly declining since. And this scene basically sealed it. Their relationship just isn’t what I thought it was. I know in this episode Louis realizes he loves Shin and not Shine, but he took such a long time to reach that conclusion and I’m just so uncomfortable about their relationship being originally based on Rinne’s relationship with Shine. Which was not a healthy relationship.

Also! It wasn’t 1,000 years since they have seen each other dammit! It was like 20! AT MOST! Right????? Yeah that’s a long time for mortals, but not for a being like Louis that lives for thousands of years.

Anyway before you send me hate, just know that I’m definitely not saying Shin and Louis shouldn’t be together and I’m certainly not saying that you should agree with me. Both of them deserve happiness, especially Louis. I’m just saying I personally am not as passionate about them the way I used to be.

But even so....

That didn’t stop me from going to find the location of this scene when I was in Tokyo last week!

So did Shin pass the smell test or not? Because Louis.... I guess technically........... (nevermind..... not gonna open up that can of worms right now...........)

It took me a long time to appreciate it considering WHAT JUST HAPPENED but this YABEEEEEEEE from Sanada is pretty hilarious.

This is unfortunately (?) another moment ruined by the new ending music.

In the theatrical version, this moment is dead silent and it makes it all the more apparent the.... change which has just taken place. It is terrifying.

But regardless. Now you can probably guess why episode 11 is so painful for me and any fans of Shin..................................

*deep breath*

Okay so. Let’s review.

Here is my tl;dr of the timeline, from my understanding:

The Rinne/Shine program is created with Rinne for female stars and Shine for male -> Shine breaks the rules and so Rinne has to erase him -> But Rinne doesn’t erase him completely and promises to find him again -> The Rinne program gets stuck in a loop where she keeps freezing/self destructing because she's trying to find Shine -> The gods decide to start erasing the memory of the Rinnes -> Rinne keeps falling in love with male stars since she's in charge of male stars now too -> The events of Rainbow Live happen -> The gods decide to alter the Rinne program to make the body male and restore the memory of the past Rinnes to fix this, creating Louis -> Since Louis has the memory of the past Rinnes he goes to find Shine again -> The events of King of Prism : Louis begins the process of resurrecting Shine in Shin -> The gods find out and order him to delete Shine again -> Louis still cannot finish the job and cuts himself off from the prism gods, becoming like June -> Louis realizes he loves Shin not Shine but.... -> Louis’ weakened state allows Shine to fully resurrect, and.....

So. There is more to this. But if you would like to come to your own conclusions about what just happened in that final scene and go into the next episode blind, this post is over. Thanks for joining me this far!!

Episode 11 spoilers start here

So I first saw Part 4 on like, 3 hours sleep. So as you can imagine I was having a really hard time taking all this in. And when that last scene happened I was basically plunged into the darkest depths of absolute horror. To think all this time I had been worried about Louis hurting Shin. The opposite had never ever crossed my mind.

In my first viewing what I thought happened was that Shin had just regained his memories and killed Louis. And for 30 seconds or so, I seriously considered walking out of the theater. Not that I didn’t plan to ever finish watching it, but I just felt I was not ready and needed time to cry and take this all in before continuing to the next episode at the next showing. I was so close and literally the only reason I didn’t leave was because I just didn’t want other people to see me walking out. So I stuck with it and forced myself through the next two episodes.

And I’m glad I did. Because that’s not what happened.

The next episode makes it very clear that Shin and Shine are two different people. Shin did not get any memories back in the final scene. Shin is Shin, and Shine is Shine.

From what I can gather, Shin was born with Shine sealed inside him. He’s like the host. (Whether this technically makes him a reincarnation or not, I’m not sure.) Shin has never had any contact with Shine, but Shine has always been watching life through Shin’s eyes.

The Shin we see walking off at the end of episode 10 is Shine controlling Shin’s body. From the moment he says “Rinne.....” Shine is in control, and Shin as we know him is unconscious. Shin has no memory of the things he does while Shine is controlling him.

Also, the act of Shine destroying Rinne’s feathers did not kill Louis back there. But as you can imagine, he’s in bad, BAD shape right now.....

hi! ive been out of the fandom for a year so i dont know whats happening, can you help me? what the boys were up to recently? what about louis' album? larry? any updates on niall's projects and life and stuff? did the boys have any contact recently with each other?

I’ll do the best I can, but I may miss a few things:

Niall:

He was supposedly in a relationship with Hailee Steinfeld from sometime around March until December. He had his first kissing pap walk and other than that, it was never actually confirmed except by unnamed “sources” in the papers. More than likely this was a benevolent PR deal for mutual promo.

Work-wise, Niall finished his first solo tour, released the single “Finally Free” because someone working on the movie Smallfoot has a massive crush on him and would have preferred the whole soundtrack to be Niall if he’d had the time to write it. He also recently released the orchestra version of 9 (I think?) of his Flicker songs. He’s currently working on writing his 2nd album, so he’ll probably be pretty scarce for awhile.

Harry:

Harry also finished up his first solo tour and has been seen in and out of Japan quite a bit. People assume he’s working on writing his 2nd album there, although it’s not confirmed.

I’m honestly not too sure what else to say about him. He’s popped in and out of the fandom’s awareness on social media, but I think he’s mostly remained under the radar since his tour ended.

Liam:

Liam has continued putting out singles here and there (still mostly collabs) and we did get his EP “First Time” in August, although we still don’t have his actual album that should have been done a long time ago. Most think that the album will be out this year, although it’s hard to say for sure. Supposedly Liam hasn’t had any tour dates yet because they “can’t find the right venues”, but that seems like a really weak excuse and some people have noted that he only seems to perform at festivals and other events that maybe he doesn’t get paid for like a regular concert?

Liam has come out and said he’s interested in acting in the near future, but there’s been no announcement of any roles.

The Liam-Cheryl relationship finally ended in July, thankfully. Again, fake relationship and not nearly as benevolent as the Niall-Hailee one. No big movements on babygate 2.0 though.

Louis:

Louis put absolutely no music out this last year. As far as we can tell, he was ready to and wanted to and then got drafted into being a judge on The X-Factor UK instead. He did the best he could to be a good mentor and one of his acts did, in fact, win. Surprisingly, Louis came out of The X-Factor looking a whole lot better than anybody assumed Simon was going to let him. He also made his primary purpose on that show to wear coded clothing pretty much every chance he got.

Liam showed up on Louis’ judge’s house episode and also came on to perform. Niall showed up in the audience during the finale episode (or maybe the one right before?). Unfortunately, we didn’t get almost any public interactions when Liam performed and none at all when Niall was in the audience. Louis and Liam did end up doing another Gogglebox-based charity video together after the judge’s house episode though.

Despite Louis’ music being delayed, fans are hopeful that Louis will have a single out this month and an album out this year, preferably with tour dates to follow. Both Louis and Liam’s music releases have been so delayed at this point that no one wants to get too excited until it actually happens.

I think Eleanor has been showing up periodically with Louis, but generally she’s in the background. Louis hasn’t mentioned Freddie at all this year and some interesting things have been going on with Briana’s family and friends deleting social media posts or starting entirely different social media accounts recently. People are wondering if this is leading up to the end of babygate or if it might just be cleaning house in preparation for promo for Louis’ album. We’ll see in time.

Zayn:

Zayn finally released his 2nd album after several years and a tweet a few months prior accusing his label of blocking the release of his music. The first part of the album is mushy af and is commonly assumed to be an ode to his love for Liam. The second part of the album is darker and seems to be about Zayn’s struggles in the industry/life, as befits the concept of “Icarus Falls”. Unfortunately, this album is getting little to no proper promo. I don’t think there’s been one interview since it came out in any medium.

Zayn and Gigi have recently been reported as having split (again) and hopefully it sticks this time. Again, fake relationship, not benevolent. The break up stories are blaming the break up on Gigi not being able to fix Zayn’s mental health issues.

After hinting heavily he wanted to tour in 2018, his team claimed he wasn’t touring because of his anxieties, but now he’s hinting heavily about touring soon again.

I want to be respectful of mental health issues, but I do find it very suspicious that Zayn’s so-called issues are only ever brought up in order to explain away why he gets no promo or why his management “dropped” him or why his “girlfriend” can’t stay with him. In other words, his team is sabotaging him and is either making up mental health issues to use to blame Zayn or is using pre-existing mental health issues to blame Zayn even though it’s still not his fault.

As far as Zayn and 1D goes, we’ve reverted back to a more negative narrative yet again. It makes no sense at all, but this isn’t the first time we’ve yo-yo’ed between a more positive and more negative narrative with no particular event or reason driving it. Zayn and Louis officially reconciled over a year ago and no other members of 1D were ever actually fighting in the first place, and yet here we are with this ridiculous fighting narrative still.

Larry and Ziam:

Both are still going strong.

We haven’t had as many hints from the Ziam side (except for Zayn’s love declarations in “Icarus”) since Zayn is so often MIA, but Louis being on The X-Factor provided plenty of fodder. In particular, Louis wore green and blue stripes and has been wearing a lot of clothing from Japanese lines (when Harry has coincidentally been seen in Japan a lot recently).

That’s right, we actually got around to publishing a changelog post on the first monday of the month again. Yay us! Quixol’s staff have been hard at work over the past 2 months, fixing bugs and keeping up with the business of the server- we’ve gotten around 100 new players since we last checked in with you all in one of these posts. Wow!

One of the most significant changes to mention in this post is the re-introduction of a marketplace to QuixolMC- Port Tourmaline! Ghalea finally has a place to go to buy & sell goods, and we couldn’t be more excited. It looks like you all were pretty excited, too, because it took just a week for every last player shop to be rented out... wowee! Apologies to anyone who’s been looking to open a player shop, we’ve been doing our best to make sure players are actually actively maintaining their shops.

An Update on the Latest Fanfiction.Net Nonsense

(for those of you who, like me, haven’t really paid much attention to the site since maybe 2014)

So, like a lot of fanfiction writers, I’ve mostly moved to A03 and haven’t really kept current with the site drama that goes down from time to time on Fanfiction.Net. I’m not sure how long it’s been since I’ve interacted with the forums on that site, but I’m pretty sure it’s been multiple years. Unfortunately, this nonsense is now my problem, and it may be your problem too.

If you are unlucky like me, you might’ve received some confusing spam reviews over the last few weeks or months. Hopefully, you’ve also seen that post about the more recent Fanfiction.Net profile hack, and are safely logged out of your account. Again, I am not really plugged into FFN site culture at all anymore, so when the spam reviews mentioned “CU,” I had no idea what they were talking about. Now I do, though.

Turns out that CU stands for Critics United, which is one of those annoying forums made up of people who have decided that they are going to act as moderators for Fanfiction.Net, without any actual authority whatsoever. You know, those people that leave reviews telling authors that they’ve violated Fanfiction.Net’s TOS with their songfic or whatever and then if the 12-year-old in question doesn’t remove the lyrics to “Every Time We Touch” from their fic, they report the kid to the actual mods and get the story taken down. I don’t have the best opinion of those types of groups. Even if the people that they are reporting are violating the Terms of Service, these people are getting the fics taken down because they don’t like fics with bad grammar, songfics, CYOA-fics, RPF and other types of fics that violate the TOS. Also, while they do “offer” to help authors bring their fics into compliance with the TOS, when the alternative is them reporting the fics to the site so they’ll be deleted, their actions are better described as “coercing” or “threatening.” I can’t help but think it’s a bit of a power trip for at least some of them, even if it isn’t an entirely conscious one.

Apparently, whoever it is that is sending all of these spam reviews also does not approve of Critics United, or at least wants us to think that how they feel. Most of the spam reviews I have received goes something like this: “Hate CU [long number] CU are C**ks. For freedom! Spread the message! Mary out.” The reviews I have received do not have the asterisks. While Reddit users reported that the profile hack changed over time, for a while people’s profiles were being changed to the sentence “I support Critics United.” It’s difficult to say whether the profile hack is the same person and they are attempting to frame Critics United for their actions, or whether it’s a different person, with motives more along the lines of identity theft or other such malicious things, attempting to disguise what they’re doing as a product of forum drama.

It is worth noting that there are no shortage of people with a motive to do this as revenge against Critics United. There are several forums on Fanfiction.Net specifically dedicated to complaining about Critics United, though many of them are inactive at this point. Critics United also maintains a list of the fanfictions they have interacted with in one of their forums, and it is not a short list.

Don’t get me wrong. What the spammer is doing is not justified, no matter what has been done to them. I wasn’t even aware of Critics United, and yet my story was targeted. The same is true of a number of other people I know. As for whoever is hacking profiles, whether it is the same person or not, that is even less justified. The spam is annoying; the profile hack has wiped out people’s data and also scared at least a few people into deleting their accounts. Some people on Reddit speculated that the profile hacking might be the work of a white hat hacker, but if they are, they are doing a terrible job of trying to be a good guy.

That said, I remember way back when I was still super active on Fanfiction.Net, and I ran across the community that is now FROG, but was then Eliminator. I remember finding it quite upsetting that people acted this way— deliberately looking for rule breaking fics and working to get them thrown off the site. I was scared to stand up to them though, because even though none of my fics are really songfics, a few of them have a single line of lyrics in them, or are named after songs, and I thought that might be enough for these zealots to come after me. Now, though, I’ve got an AO3 and a Tumblr and absolutely no patience for this nonsense.

If this person really is after Critics United and not just using that motive as a smokescreen, then I’m really glad that when Critics United finally pushed the wrong person, it was somebody who knew too much about computers and not enough about consequences, rather than someone violent. That said, I’m still not too happy that I have literally hundreds of stupid spam reviews on my fics, especially if it’s all because of a forum made up of 10 people who also don’t understand that much about consequences.

If it’s an actual hacker, I will be so angry if my personal info gets stolen because Fanfiction.Net’s admins do not care about their site.

Oh man where do i even begin with this...

Hey everyone, Clay here! First of all, i must apologize for my extremely long hiatus!! I’m really sorry for not replying to any threads you may have started with me during this time!! I know i haven’t interacted at all for months now, but i do have good personal reasons behind it... which i won’t bother you with. The point is that i am back and ready to interact again!!

To get straight to the point, I have deleted many posts and organized my blog because i want to start over. Don’t worry, you read that right. Basically, I have made some changes to Nadia’s about page and the blog’s rules, which i will be posting after this announcement. Hopefully none of you whom i have interacted in the past with get offended by the sudden change. There is nothing any of you did wrong, it’s mostly me having done some thinking the past few months and coming to this conclusion!

Important Note

Hello readers,

In case you hadn’t already seen, I posted a brief message on my Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook page saying that I would be posting an important note today, with some thoughts/feelings I’ve been holding back. It’s a little later than I had planned to write and post this (11:30pm), but here it is.

First of all,(broken record time) it’s the same old song here regarding updating. Trying to write, but haven’t had much motivation. Some semi-new issues have popped up with my mom’s struggle with depression and anxiety, and I’m obviously worried. Also, finding out near the end of the month if my dad may need open heart surgery. Stress never seems to end in this house.

Now onto the held back thoughts/feelings.

Oh boy, hoping I will not regret this, but I feel the need to be honest. The past several months, I’ve come to the belief that Zak is not as sweet of a person as he seems to be - especially in regards to dating - and thus, I’ve become disappointed as a fan. Before I continue, if you follow my Zak Instagram account (BelievesInZak), you most likely know what I’m going to delve into, as I went through some bad drama a few months ago because I voiced disagreement over something Zak did. Regardless, I want to make it clear that I’m not trying to cause drama, I don’t want to fight with anyone, I know Zak’s personal life is none of my business, and I know that this story in no way is a reflection of how the guys really act.

Without going into too many details, there has been gossip about Zak’s relationship behaviour for years (essentially he goes after women 20 years younger than him, and uses them). There used to be a thread on a website where people commented and discussed how he behaved. That thread has been deleted, but there is now a blog on Tumblr to continue the discussion. I really wasn’t going to say the name of the blog, but I know people will be asking, so to save me having to answer, the name of it is “The Return of the Dirty”. I really don’t want to get into elaborate details on here, because as I said, I don’t want to fight with anyone, and don’t want people attacking me like I had to endure months ago. The only reason I’m bringing it up here and now, is because I think this disappointment is partly affecting my lack of writing. I’m not as “gaga” over Zak like I was three years ago, when I started this story, and the past few months my enthusiasm as a Zak fan has decreased more. I’m not saying I’m no longer a fan. I still like a lot of things about him, and I am genuinely curious about the paranormal, so I enjoy the show (although I’m really behind in episodes), but I am disappointed by his dating behaviour, if such “rumours” are true (many are hard to deny at this point). I knew when I first became a fan that no one is perfect, but he’s the first of my “celebrity crushes” that has really disappointed me. I guess this is the price you pay for writing a story about real life people, or maybe I’m just being my overly sensitive self.

Anyway, I feel like I’m rambling. I hope I’m making sense, and I hope you understand my point of view. I understand not everyone will believe what I do, but please be respectful of my opinion. I’m genuinely disappointed and sad that I’m at this point with my writing. I have so many ideas for this story, my planned sequel, and for stories in other fandoms (specifically Chicago Fire/PD/Med, and Arrow), and even a few ideas for an original story. But I worry almost daily about trying to update this story (as silly as that sounds) that I don’t want to start other stories right now. It’s just the way I am. I hate disappointing people, and I feel like I’m disappointing you guys.

To sum up, I’ve been disappointed, but I’m still a fan. I still want to write this story. I still want to try to write a sequel, in which case I hope to wrap up this overall story, and I still have a few ideas for other Zak stories. I don’t know if I’ll ever write another story in my life, but I plan to do my best to at least finish this one.

I apologize if I’ve upset anyone, and I sincerely apologize if these “rumours” were unknown to you and you’re learning about them now...believe me, I know what you’re feeling. Not that numbers matter to me, but I hope I haven’t turned anyone off to continuing reading this story. I just really needed to get this off my chest, because it was starting to feel like I was being “dishonest” with you guys. I’m also hoping that maybe some of you will have some thoughts on this issue that will help me better understand it. You guys have been SO supportive of me and this silly little story...I never, ever, thought it would gain the attention that it has, especially with someone like “Alicia” being the main character. As most of you probably know, she’s mainly based on me, and I’m so thankful to all of you for supporting “her”. It makes me feel a little less alone in the world...

lil update (not that anyone cares but..)

so im writing this while in the middle of an anxiety attack so please bare with me. I was hoping my break would make me feel better, but honestly, a few days in, its just reminded me how alone I am and how no ones gives a shit about me. saying that, some shit has happened to me over the past 24 hours that has really taken a toll on me mentally.

this isn't a goodbye, I dont think I could leave you guys or delete my blog, ive put in too much time and effort to just give up on it now. what this is is me saying I dont think im getting any better and I honestly dont think I ever will bc my depression and anxiety have been eating at me for the past few months. what that means for this blog, I dont know.

I know none of you care about me or this post, fuck most of you probably wont even read it, but I just feel so alone and scared and like I dont belong anywhere. I have seen some of the messages that a few of you have sent me and I am truly grateful for them. they've helped me to remember that some people care about me, even though I feel like no ones does.

ending this, I just want to say that even though most of you probably dont like me, or my content, or you just find me bare annoying; I know and I understand why. I wouldn't like me either tbh. I also want to say thank you to @zendmylife @hollandazing and @honeybwrites for checking up on me daily and talking me through stuff. I'd probably be dead right now without you three so thank you. also thank you to anyone who has sent me a lovely message, I wont post any of them because I want to keep them in my inbox for when I get like this again.

A reminder that your character need not send out the hint if that’s not an in-character thing to do! They can always choose to ignore it. But do note that the same hint will never be sent out again (you may take this as an IC information from the government)

Kindly send me a message once your character has received the correct hint, so that I can update the government records page accordingly.

1. Which is the imagine you’re most proud of? Right now, I’d probably say Wicked Games because the story is very in-depth in terms of characterization and plot.

2. Which is your least favourite? Boundless - I think I rushed it and it didn’t turn out like I wanted it to. Besides, it’s an extremely angsty piece and I just didn’t really like it.

3. If you were to recommend one to read to your mum/mom? None of them. She would think they were all stupid and pointless, and she wouldn’t even be able to read them because she doesn’t know English.

4. Which one would you consider re-writing? If I Believe - I know for a fact I rushed most of the chapters just to get them out there, and I regret it. But I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make the time to re-write them.

5. Biggest regret in an imagine? Grammar mistakes - especially when I read through the work one more time after my beta and I still don’t catch the stupid mistakes.

6. Biggest success with an imagine? In terms of notes, Quit Staring is my most popular fic to date. In terms of readers’ reviews/asks, I would say Wicked Games.

7. Your imagine with the most notes? Quit Staring.

8. Your imagine with the least notes? A request I wrote when I was first starting out. I’m probably going to delete it soon, so I won’t link it. I’m probably going to delete a lot of my oldest works because they annoy me.

7. Thoughts on writing Smut/POC/Curvy/MxM/FxF? My smut writing has actually improved thanks to Sam + Blade helping me out over time. Definitely will keep it in mind, but I think the only time I’ll be writing smut in the future will be for Wicked Games.

As for POC/Curvy readers – II’ve written latinx!readers before and will continue to do so, but I would definitely love to write a plus-size/curvy reader sometime soon!

8. Which account is your biggest inspiration in writing? wow, this is so hard. Definitely @jurassicbarnes, who was the first writer (if my shitty memory serves me right) I read on this site, closely followed by @bookybuns. From there, I would say @doublestufthoreo @buckyywiththegoodhair, @lovelynemesis, @ughkeery, @a-splash-of-stucky, @bitsandbobsandstuff and sophierosina on AO3.

9. How long have you been an imagine writer for? Since May of 2017 on tumblr, but I had one series I was working on through Wattpad since June of 2016.

10. Any upcoming secret works? 🤔 For series? No. One-shots, a few ideas sitting on my google drive, lmao. we’ll see when the time is right.

So, your Windows computer is running sluggish. What do you do?

Many computer repair services offer “tune ups” of your computer. But do these tune up services work? Let’s look at what a tune up of your PC should look like so you can see what’s involved.

At this point, assume the PC is infected with malware and use proper precautions so you do not infect other computers. If you know for sure that you are infected with Malware, then my next article will deal with that specifically. For now, lets assume we are simply experiencing sluggishness or a slow computer that may be caused by Malware or it may be caused by a few other things.

The first step in a tune up is to inspect the inside of the machine. That will usually mean to “Blow out the dust” in addition to inspecting all fans, intake grills, outgo grills, and heatsink fins. All should be cleaned as necessary. Ditto for the heatsink on the graphics processing unit or GPU.

Will the PC Boot? Time for a Boot Test. Once booted up successfully(hopefully), a system assessment can be made. The technician will have diagnostic software to load at this time which will show all the various aspects of a running computer, including the hard drive capacities, the overall hard drive health, detailed software, hardware, network and security configurations.

We want to see if there are memory issues at the hardware level. Thus, memory tests will be run at this time. Bad RAM memory modules are possible although rare.

Before anything is changed, a Full image backup of your hard drive(s) is done. We don’t want to lose any files if serious problems occur so we back everything up.

Other visual inspections may be made where the battery on the motherboard, the motherboard itself, the temperature is checked, and for laptops we want to inspect the keyboard itself. Making sure the “Fn” key works. The units time and date are verified.

Then we might turn towards the software and look at the User Account Control (UAC) and make sure it is turned on and set properly. Power settings are looked at. Screensaver timeout changed back to NONE. System protection is looked at and changed to ON. These are your critically important system restore points. Make sure there is only one running restore program and only one drive C drive! Windows lets us “create” a restore point whenever we wish.

More software tools can be implemented to clean up the file system, to remove temp files, cookies, etc. All files are deleted in the downloads folder as well. And if there is a WINDOWS.OLD folder, it has got to go. That’s doing nothing but taking up space and slowing things down.

Let’s now connect to the internet and let’s make sure Windows Firewall settings are on. Third-party firewalls may be present which is unfortunate but ok. Its just not recommended since Windows has a firewall built right in Windows.

Usually this is a good time to perform Malware scans. Its not simply as easy as running a software program. Usually I will run 5 different programs because no one program can do it all.

A BIOS upgrade is next. Your BIOS is that dark screen right before Windows boots. It resides on your motherboard and is very important to not just performance but to whether your PC boots up or not. These computer files get updated and new BIOS configurations become available. Its not the easiest upgrade as a ‘flash install’ is needed. These are tricky maneuvers because they are done outside of a Windowed environment, however, a current BIOS is usually recommended.

Supposing we tossed the old BIOS in favor of the new one, why don’t we continue this organizing and look to delete other software programs? Old Adobe reader programs, Flash, Java, and other programs litter our hard drives and slow our system down. This include any Anti-Malware “suites” other than Windows Defender (Windows’ excellent built-in antivirus/malware program).

So, scans are complete. How about the internet connection and speed? And let’s run Windows Update to make sure all the updates are done. We keep re-running windows update until there are no more updates. Plus, I would check in Windows settings or run a program called WINVER to confirm the version of Windows is at least 1709 or higher. Microsoft updates Windows about twice a year and 1709 was a big one.

Device conflicts are inspected and fixed if any are found. These are those pesky Red X’s or Question Marks on top of these devices. They need to be fixed, all of them, before continuing.

Hard disk inspections using different scanning software will be used to see if any large file blocks or defragmentation shows up. Windows 10 shouldn’t have any defrag problems, but it needs to be checked anyway. Warning: Never defrag a solid-state drive (SSD) drive!

Optimizing the Folder View Options can be next. These are found in control panel and there is a half dozen or so checkboxes that should be checked (not all of them) to help achieve a smoother running machine. Similarly, visiting System Properties, Computer name, Startup and Recovery, and Virtual Memory will help to make sure various settings are either ‘checked’ or ‘unchecked’ properly.

Disable Autoplay. Thanks to bad design decisions, Autoplay, also known as AutoRun, was once a huge security problem on Windows. Autoplay helpfully allowed malicious software to launch as soon as you inserted discs and USB drives into your computer. Windows 10 largely fixed the issue, but it is still a good idea to disable it.

You can also optimize your mouse and touchpad controls as well. Turning off a lot of the eye candy will help your performance.

You can apply these optimization activities over to your display and to the Desktop to achieve similar gains. For example, turning off ‘transparency effect’ will help. And the desktop should be no more than 500MB (not GB) in size.

There are lots of places where Microsoft is selling you something. You can remove these too. As an example, under settings>System>Notifications&Actions you can turn OFF “Get Tips, Tricks, and Suggestions as you use Windows”. You don’t need this.

There are a lot of optimizations you can do to Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome too. Mostly these deal with getting rid of all the cache, how to deal with cookies, and whether you are clearing browsing history when you exit.

If you don’t have an email program like Outlook, we can install Thunderbird and usually do. Its free and is an impressive program. Ditto for an Office Suite. LIBRE Office is free and a worthy competitor to Microsoft Office. If you want these programs installed, just remember to change the default Office program (control panel>default programs).

Clear all the event logs and system logs in Event viewer. Rerun file and disk utilities. Run Anti-Malware updates and scans again. Run “Six-Shooter” which is a collection of six utilities to further weed out any malware in the system.

The system can now be tested to make sure all parts are working as designed and any problems fixed. Browsers can be tested. File Types (.doc, .docx, .ppsx, .ppt, & .pptx) can be opened and closed to see if the file associations work. Play a video file. Make sure the CD player works. Things like that. Check the sounds.

A final run of system diagnostic software will close this up. This will provide a snapshot of what your system looks like now, post optimization.

This has also been a hardware inspection. Thus, your technician can share thoughts or give advice on the sun-setting of certain hardware and the need to, perhaps, upgrade something if for nothing else than to achieve better security. For example, perhaps they are running Windows 10 version 1709 when version 1809 is available. Or maybe their CPU is so old, you can only play black and white media on it. Seriously though, computer hardware is a depreciating asset. It comes into favor and then it goes out of favor. You cannot simply buy one piece of hardware and stick with it for 30 years.

Now, having said this, I just extended the life of my TEN YR OLD MacBook Pro by adding an SSD drive and reinstalling the operating system. For a ten-year-old, she sure acts like a newborn! I may have extended the life a little bit, but I am still running about four versions of operating system behind the current version(not to mention the ancient CPU). That’s because Apple doesn’t support my aging hardware anymore. Microsoft is no different.

From a security standpoint, this becomes untenable and I better get to the store to replace my MacBook soon. Luckily, however, I just purchased a brand new Razer Blade 15 Windows Laptop! In my line of work i need to have both a Mac and a Windows computer at all times.
