Within India, the most love marriages take place in Kerala and the north-eastern states. This could be due to a higher proportion of Christians and tribals without caste limitations. Yet the largest survey in India suggests that only 3% of marriages are love marriages, 93% are arranged, and 4% are "semi-arranged". Semi-arranged marriages are not based on love, although the youngsters have more say in them. Less than 5% of marriages are across castes. Youngsters marrying across castes have often been burned alive by their parents with the full approval of village elders to "save the honour" of the family and village. Honour killings represent the tyranny of the old over the young.

A Rose Garden
On a dark and desolate night , I stood before a rose garden, or so I thought it was. I walked down the stone paved path, I felt my footsteps adhere to some of the red stones. That was a unique color. I wondered why I felt so empty and deserted, I guessed it was just hunger. Was it hunger of my soul or my stomach? A futile poetic inquiry. I ran my fingers through the charming red roses. I stood in awe as their rich color smeared my hands as well, their kindness was admirable as they bestowed upon me their priceless divinity. I saw a beautiful pale man lying on the deep green grass surrounded by red roses. He was a figure of tranquility, meditating with his eyes closed and a completely concentrated mind, he did not even seem to notice me. It was a breathtaking site, he made an astounding artistic muse. Suddenly I felt an acute pain in my chest, I knelt on the grass as I held myself. Was it his beauty that shocked me? I looked closely at his sharply defined features. He had deep set hooded eyes that gave him a fierce look, his lips looked bluish red- the perfect combination of colors, he had a button nose and a strong jaw. I fell for him wholly. I stood up and glanced at the gleaming white rose field. Why were the red roses grown in just a small patch? Art can be found and created anywhere for a person who is willing to see it. I pondered about why did the man’s face seem so familiar , why did I feel an acute chest pain at his mere sight? All of a sudden a myriad of pictures flew through my head- pictures of me and this man, smiling together and holding each other under the afterglow of a pinkish yellow sky. He spoke to me in my memories and all I heard was a whisper of an astonishing word- love. I smiled and fell to the cushiony grass next to the man. I was in a field of roses and all of them were white. A gorgeous deep red paint oozed from my heart, it was my love for him. I placed my hand on his and felt at peace. All sad stories have a lovely end , I think we will finally be united and we’ll finally be at rest. My love for you darling has transformed this night into a piece of majestic art, I wonder if some destruction is beautiful. Your love for me posed a serious threat to this world ,the sight of it looked scary to the lonely men. Our blood is of the same color and so are our hearts, how can they even imagine to do us apart? Our blood had created a historic art form which was soon to be washed away as I felt the heaven cry for us. It was a sweet and welcoming cry , I hugged his cold body and fell into a deep peaceful sleep. I fell for him wholly, again .

It's all I see in the news and I'm just so disgusted this happened... Rest in peace, Somaiya Begum.
You didn't deserve what happened to you.
She was 20 years old a biomedical student, put in forced marriage protection and its believed her uncle killed her.
Dumped her body like rubbish...
She refused to be married to her cousin in Pakistan... So they killed her.
It's so fucked up that honour based violence, killing is so prevalent in our culture.
Why do we follow what we're told... Because of things like this.
... Because its our loved ones who hurt us the most.
Idk if my family would've done this to me but I'm lucky I got out.
Not everyone is so lucky.

REVIEW:Honour- Elif Shafak: Trauma Love Of Brown Women
'Honour' by Elif Shafak examines Turkish patriarchy mingling with Western traditions & values. It addresses gendered violence, racism & economic exploitation.
HONOUR replaces The Bastard of Istanbul as my favourite book by Elif Shafak. Once again, this story is about Turkish women navigating the changing faces of patriarchy between Western notions and their traditional values. But this time, we also see the journeys of the men through these same paths. The Turkish characters originate from poor remote villages rather than the bustling city of…

Hear me out. Jason Grace would NOT understand meme culture or gen z jokes. Like. At all. This man is a dorky dad in a child's body.
Jason would just do a cool backflip or sumn and Piper would go "oh my gosh slayyy" and he'd get all serious and alert, draws his gladius and goes "Where's the monster I need to slay Piper? Where is it????"
Leo would call him a pookie bear, and Jason would be like "??? Frank's the bear" and "What is a pookie, it is a very peculiar sounding word" with the most adorable clueless puppy face ever.
Piper and Leo would be in TEARS.
Bc. Jason grace, the Son of Jupiter. Child of rome. Toppler of the black throne. Praetor of the twelfth legion. Slayer of krios. The golden celebrity of camp jupiter. Cold intimidating feral boy who most ppl even fear standing next to. Doesn't know what a pookie bear is.
Also, Jason would HATE HATE HATE the "womp womp" jokes (which Leo makes ALOT lmao) it's legit like the Bane of his existence.
Bc he doesn't get it? Like when Annabeth gives them all a very serious Architectural nerdy explanation about the exteriors of the new rome shrines, Leo would just go "womp womp" like so out of the blue.
Annabeth would be fucking furious, and Jason would be like super annoyed aswell bc. dude. What was the point of interrupting such a great nerdy yapping session, like, I was enjoying that. You killed the vibe.
(We all know it's canon that Jason and annabeth love yapping and geeking out in cursive together, so they BOTH hate the womp womp jokes with a burning passion BC IM TRYNA TALK HERE)

'Honour killing’ of 22-year-old YouTube star in Iraq sparks outrage
Police had attempted to mediate between Ali -- who resided in Turkey and was visiting Iraq -- and her relatives to "resolve the family dispute in a definitive manner".
Tumblr media
The death of a young YouTube star at the hands of her father has sparked outrage in Iraq, where so-called "honour killings" continue to take place in the conservative country.
Tiba al-Ali, 22, was killed by her father on January 31 in the southern province of Diwaniya, interior ministry spokesman Saad Maan said on Twitter on Friday.
Police had attempted to mediate between Ali -- who resided in Turkey and was visiting Iraq -- and her relatives to "resolve the family dispute in a definitive manner", Maan said.
Unverified recordings of conversations between Ali and her father appeared to indicate that he was unhappy about her decision to live alone in Turkey.
Maan said that after the police's initial encounter with the family "we were surprised the next day... with the news of her killing at the hands of her father, as he admitted in his initial confessions".
He did not give further details on the nature of the dispute.
Ali had gained a following on YouTube, where she posted videos of her daily life and in which her fiance often appeared.
A police source speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity meanwhile confirmed that the "family dispute" dated back to 2015.
She had travelled to Turkey with her family in 2017, but upon their return, she refused to join them, choosing instead to stay in Turkey where she resided since, the police source said.
Her death has sparked uproar among Iraqis on social media, who have called for protests in Baghdad on Sunday to demand justice in response to her death.
"Women in our societies are hostage to backward customs due to the absence of legal deterrents and government measures -- which currently are not commensurate with the size of domestic violence crimes," wrote veteran politician Ala Talabani on Twitter.
Human rights defender Hanaa Edwar told AFP that, according to voice recordings attributed to the young woman, "she left her family... because she was sexually assaulted by her brother".
The Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights too reported the allegation. AFP could not independently verify the authenticity of the voice recordings.
Amnesty International condemned the "horrific" killing, saying "the Iraqi penal code still treats leniently so called 'honour crimes' comprising violent acts such as assault and even murder".
"Until the Iraqi authorities adopt robust legislation to protect women and girls... we will inevitably continue to witness horrific murders," Amnesty's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, Aya Majzoub, said.
