3. if you had to watch one drama forever what would it be? So hard. I've narrowed it down but I'm still torn between Blueming and Old Fashion Cupcake. Both have a fairly gentle story that feels safe and cozy to return to, but with enough complexity to keep me engaged and finding new things over multiple re-watches. Both are beautifully shot and structured.

I dunna, I'm just going to go with gut instinct here and pick Blueming. Let's hope such a world never comes to pass though.

7. if you could change the ending of a drama which one would it be? Ooh, this is a popular one. I got three asks with it. Which, thank goodness, because it justifies me giving three answers. (Spoiler alert: they are Love Mechanics, War of Y: War of Managers and Where Your Eyes Linger.)

19. a pair you want to see reunite but in a different drama The first pair my mind went to was YinWar, so I'm going to go with that. I loved them in Love Mechanics; they absolutely made that show, which didn't quite live up to them. It was really interesting to see their growth between the first En of Love and the expanded version, but I'd like them to have a chance with different characters and see what they can do. War and Yin are both such great actors and with amazing chemistry, it just makes me want to see more.

I don't keep up with the news very well, so I have no idea if anything is planned already. I know I'm not the only one who wants to see more of them.

but. the one line that gets to me So Much in connection with literally everything else is “I’ve always loved my son, that’s never changed” because it is True. it is Eric’s CORE. his love for Daniel is his entire motivation thru 2 and I’d argue thru 4 as well. is he a good father? you know what, no. he’s not. but he recognizes that and he tries to make it right. he calls Daniel as soon as he gets home to apologize for what he said. the moment he sees Daniel in the nerve gas house, he’s driven to tears. not anger, not violence, not anything John is accusing him of (not until Kerry + Rigg encourage him over that edge). tears. I talk about that moment a lot and I’ve talked about the cinematography of the scene where he does break down but the visuals of him quite literally behind bars and when he’s visibly angry it’s always preceded by a flash, as if a mental image rather than a literal one. this is something he’s tried to cage and now he’s facing letting it out again. so much of how he is portrayed is deeply interesting to me especially versus how fandom interacts with his character (especially compared to Hoffman or Strahm)

and ik it’s another favorite of mine to bring up but the fact that the entire time he’s in the bathroom he’s screaming for Daniel. not for help. is that the response of someone who doesn’t genuinely love his child, despite his myriad of flaws (which he is trying to work through + better)? of someone who was lying when he said “I’ve always loved my son”? Eric would tear the world apart for the people he loves and he is not perfect by a long shot but his flaws and his struggles are part of what make him so interesting, especially in juxtaposition with this bone-deep love that is arguably the only thing that gets him to act (if he hadn’t been restless thinking about his argument with Daniel, would he have contacted Kerry at all? Daniel being danger is absolutely the only reason he listens to Kerry and reacts violently)

and the reason I bring up IV here, and again ik it’s smthn I’ve brought up at least once, is Eric’s character shift through that movie. it’s not anything grand and not noticeable if you don’t. like him. but he goes from asking Art why he’s not killing him + pleading that he doesn’t want to play anymore to firing a warning shot at Rigg, yelling for him to listen and to not come through the door. he starts playing. why? when Eric is so ready to choke himself to try to fight Art only minutes before, why the change? hope. the clock is counting down and Eric is staring down his release from Jigsaw’s torture. but then, why not play along from the beginning if all he has to do is stand there?

it’s not hope for his own life. it’s hope that he’ll get to walk out of this and see Daniel again, after so long convinced he was going to die in that cell with his last words to Daniel being born from anger he never should’ve directed at his kid. hope that Daniel’s only memento won’t be an awkward attempt at an apology left in his voicemail.

Eric is ready to die, asks who he assumes is a jigsaw disciple why he’s NOT dead, but when he’s finally given the choice to end his life he doesn’t. Because he was telling the truth: he has always, and will always, love his son.

Some thoughts on That New Game About Shibuya will be in this tag; spoilers below. (Days 5-7)

I didn't know much about Nagi and she turned out to be...idk, a bit too standard chuuni for me? I'm sure I'll warm up to her, but I feel like I have seen every single trait of hers multiple times before.

Fret is a delight, I enjoy him immensely, and he is bi.

I appreciate the number of scenes where Rindo is completely lost in his own head while other people are talking. Big mood.

Overall, I'm definitely curious to see how they're going to handle characters in this game (which I mentioned before the game even came out, and is the reason why I'm trying not to expect like...the original game again). The original game WAS the characters, and the lore was basically optional. This game doesn't really seem to be doing that, but I'm also not very far in, so

Finishing Day 5, I really like how everybody's unique psychs work together

Imprinting also feels much more fleshed out; the memes keywords are a bit less obvious, you can get them in different ways, and it doesn't feel like I'm getting like, two choices.

Ok, my thought that Swallow might be Hype-chan is gaining ground. I don't remember her name exactly, but Tsurumi or Tsugumi makes me think of birds?? (I'm not looking it up in case I'm right.) Pretty sure she's the one by the computer. If she is Swallow, tho, her personality isn't what I expected, at least not via text.

Also, I'm going to reveal what a clown I am and say that I was really worried that the game would somehow be like...really short? I think I got burned by the last two "super long wait" games from SE, with FFXV being super short and KH3 spoiling literally everything in the trailers. There's no rational reason for it, but I was like "oh no, what if it's a parallel universe? what if we never find out what happened to neku. what if joshua has only one line. what if it's only a week. what if, inexplicably, it has absolutely nothing to do with A New Day. what if it's just a fun little game with none of the original characters and no stakes" I think it's just a testament to how much I care about this game; it's like I was instinctively trying to keep expectations low. And I still am tbh, but I think part of it is also just that the marketing, like...didn't spoil everything for once. For once I'm not as hype because I genuinely don't know what to expect, and my brain has translated that into expecting nothing.

But I think that'll make for a much more enjoyable experience than when hype brainworms get me so worked up that I inevitably crash when I play the real game. This is honestly really nice 😭
