A family member is doing through detox and the medication to soothe the transition is making them delirious. Today’s nurse used her PERSONAL PHONE to play rain noises for her entire 12 hour shift because it helped keep the family member calm. 🥺

Smiffina Episodes - Episode 358

The Larsons have returned from their holiday and Louise calls Smithy to let him know she's home. He rushes to see her at a deserted park. Meanwhile Pete is spotted meeting a potential replacement for Vince Garrison who was murdered just before they left on holiday. Unfortunately for the replacement, Pete doesn't take him up on the offer and uniform are requested to do a 'casual stop' to arrest him. During the interview he breaks down and admits that Pete was involved in the murder of Garrison in exchange for Sam and Zain having a word with the judge. Sam agrees and passes it on to MIT and NCS to be involved.

Smithy is tasked as part of the search group to find the gun that shot Vince Garrison at the Larson's house. He's unsure if he should be involved and Zain tells him if he wants to miss out on the chance of finally nailing Pete Larson it's up to him.

"I'm sure Sgt Smith can look after you whilst I'm gone..." he says to Louise. Hmm. Does he have his suspicions already? Or could it just be from when Louise and Smithy pretended that Louise had heard noises inside the house and called the police when really he'd come home early whilst they were in bed together?

Louise tells Smithy she can't let herself think that this could be their chance. Not until something is found. She wishes he hadn't involved himself on the search as Pete already has seen him.

Whilst they're searching, Suzie rings Smithy to tell him that Louise is Pete's alibi for the time that Vince was shot. Louise insists she's backing him up - even though she was actually with Smithy at the time. Smithy tells her it's everything they've been hoping for but Louise insists if she speaks out against him she's just as dead as Garrison. She does tell him however that Pete did have a gun the day Garrison died but she doesn't know where he's put it and he didn't take it with them when they went away - it must be in the house.

At the station, Louise calmly backs up Pete's story as she has many times before. Zain watches angrily as she's shown out, only to find out that the witness has folded after a long chat with his brief... who just so happened to have had a long chat with Larson's brief just before that.

Zain rings Smithy to tell him that they have no case now given the alibi and the withdrawl of the statement so to call off the search. Smithy refuses, he wants to find that gun. He tells Zain about it. Zain arrives to help him look and to get the search team gone before Sun Hill officers arrive. They find nothing and Zain gets a call that they're releasing Pete. He's going to drive to the a road they'd have to pass to return to the house and says he'll let Smithy know so he has enough time to leave.

Unfortunately Smithy delays and the Larson's arrive before he can get out. He can't get out the backdoors either - he's trapped!

As an aside, Dan is accepted onto the Territorial Support Group course. Smithy told him in the morning that it had a waiting list and a long one at that. Rochelle tells him congratulations that afternoon because he's been accepted onto the course and knows before he does. When he asks her how she knows, she tells him that Ian (the Borough Commander and her husband/Dan's former Superintendent) told her... and yet he still doesn't put it together and realise the obvious. Poor lad.

2nd aside - amused this episode, 2 months before Christmas at that time, has a very pointed reminder about what can happen if you illegally download stuff from the internet. It's all very 2005 in its discussion too.

3rd - I hate so much that Gina is not here for this, ditto the Gabriel stuff. It's not right, she'd be right in there because her precious boy was in the thick of things. I wish they'd worked their schedules out better so she could be back.

Klaus and Luther both have been kidnapped now and have been forgotten by the Siblings. But other than that, their experiences were so different.

There you have Luther who got a 5 Stars treatment like he was on holiday in a Spa/Hotel. Found love, married her and got a giftbag on top of it.

And then you have Klaus, who was sick from withdrawls, got tortured and hurt, got thrown into the war, found love, lost love, has PTSD for the rest of his life. Still break my heart :(

First of all I was massively ill for Shivaratri and did not go to the temple or do anything. Which is disappointing because it’s such an important holiday for me. I’m finally starting to feel better but I’m pretty sure this whole thing has been withdrawl symptoms from a prescription I haven’t been able to refill. And I’m still waiting on it.

And then I took a laser cutter class at the art center so that I can use their laser cutter. It was me with two old woodworking dudes trying to figure out how to make their woodworking more efficient. I’m not into woodworking at all which is why I’m in a laser cutter class so the machine can do the work for me. But like is this what my life is now? An old woodworking dude? And the only one of my bench neighbors that I’ve met is a gen x electrical maker type and wears a jean jacket. I’m also working with electronics and wear a jean jacket. Am I that guy? Am I a maker fair dad? This was definitely not my anticipated gender but I’m also not interested in only doing “girl art”

In fact this whole weird gendering of tools, materials, methods and styles of art is was really prompted my to get out of the gender game to begin with.

Stuff Update

Hello my Tumblr Lovely’s...

So here is one of this update posts ...

Baby cardigans should be finished this weekend so that means I get back to writing. I have my afternoon tea tomorrow and then I bought a cross trainer (I am adding it to the list of mental things I have bought in the last two weeks.. more on this in a mo...) and I gotta build it but also tidy my room and find a place to put it so that is going to be done this weekend too so maybe the cardigans won’t be finished this weekend but definitely next week when I dont have something on every evening, I can get the last one done and then back to writing.

I haven’t wrote anything in such a long long time and I am having withdrawls...

Now onto the other bit about buying things...

Yeah so I bought a ticket for Taron’s new play ... and then another one for the next night... so I have a weekend of Taron for my birthday next year.

I did this before for James McEvoy before COVID hit in January of 2020 and it was amazing so I am so excited to be able to do it again and keeping everything crossed for it to go ahead and I can go. I was clever and added ticket protection just in case I can’t go and had a few nervy moments when the first ticket took three tries to go through and then the second one wouldn’t go through with my bank and I had to use paypal which I had to cancel the first time ‘cos I hit a wrong button and then eventually got it working. Man I checked my bank so many times to make sure I didn’t get charged numerous times but it is all good and I have two tickets for two evening shows in May. 

Just a tad excited. I never thought I would get to see James McEvoy on stage and he was phenomenal so getting (Hopefully) the chance to see Taron is very exciting and I know he is going to blow us all away.

I feel extremely lucky to be able to go and am already planning on my holiday request for work to get in their first!

And London is one my favourite places in the world.

And that is my news for the day and now I need to go and try to clean my room, sew my dress for tomorrow, wrap the baby’s present and sort out the money for the tea, while I think about cleaning my room and changing my sheets.

Lockdowns – A perspective on Quality Work Productivity Hack.

March 23rd, 2020, when the government announced a lockdown suddenly, initially like most, I also took it as an extended holiday. But as it turned out, this became a painful experience for most. The life at home was not normal for many of us.

Recently I encountered this word ‘lockdown’ in a very different context. This was while listening to an audio podcast on ‘uncluttered and focused’ work hack methods. The author simply said that we need to lockdown, be detached and be in solitude in order to do quality work or ‘deep work’ as Carl Newport says in his research on the same subject.

I have spent a considerable part of my life in Bangladesh for professional reasons in late nineties. Very often there would be this extended ‘Hartals’ for political reasons which would force people to confine themselves at home. Very much like the lockdowns these would sometime extend for weeks and months at a stretch. But, now I can recall generally nobody complained for being at home for this extended period. I wonder what made that difference.

I now realize the answer lies in the methods and principles of doing a deep work.

1. It is all about time management. I am a great believer in scheduling work. ‘It’s what gets written, is what gets done’. Schedule every second of your time. And here it is not about your work only. Every activity whether it is work or otherwise needs to be scheduled.

2. Define ‘Deep Work’ and ‘Routine Work’ for yourself.Set your long term and short term goals. What will bring results for your goals defines what is Deep work for you. What actions projects needs to be undertaken is defined by the goals that you set. Block time for the ‘Deep Work’.

3. Quality work is about less distraction. In order to be able to do quality work, one has to remove all distractions. Emails, phone, social media, meetings are all distractions. Unfortunately for most of us our daily work is basically attending to these distractions. Random phone calls, unnecessary meetings, social media is what generally keeps us busy.

a. Schedule specific time in a day for Emails and Social Media. Avoid if you can totally. Research says Social media is being developed with an addictive algorithm. More you consume the more you get addicted. I too had the withdrawl symptom when I removed all notifications and a deleted some accounts. But, now it has helped to concentrate and focus.

b. Say ‘NO’ to meetings. Alternatively keep it short. Not more than may be 45 mts.

c. Keep the phone away. While on a work, keep the phone away. Inform concerned that you are not available for couple of hours. Believe me nothing happens. Incase someone has to reach you on an emergency they will by some means.

d. Schedule your routine work. Club all your routine work and schedule it. Routine calls, Emails, follow-ups, reports, review meetings, block a specific time of the day for this rather than randomly looking at it.

4. Define your work hours: The endless hours at work, bringing work at home during the weekend results in burnouts. Restrict your work hours 4-8 hours a day. Don’t schedule work during the weekends. Restricted, scarce work hours would lead to focused work.

5. Life Beyond Work. This is what Lockdown has taught me. The constant busyness at work is killing. It affects your health, relationships, social worthiness, even you intellectual thinking. There is life beyond work and you need to participant in that. I realized my friends in Bangladesh had invested in their relationships. Over a period of time they invested in the social network and mobilization very strongly. These connects helped them survive the extended physical distancing. Their own network supported each other. Work was not the only priority.

6. Replace Digital time with Physical Creative time.Important that we find physical activities which can be replace during the time we spend of digital media. Family interaction, reading, hobbies is what I’m trying to get back to last few years. Our children’s have to learn this very fast.

7. Create ‘Side Hustles’. These may be creative pursuits which can pursued outside the work hours. These may lead to alternate financial income sources in future. Many of us have realized the importance of the same during these lockdowns.

Lockdowns are reminding us about the importance of being in Solitude. The time we spend with us, without distractions can create wonder for us. Work and life without distractions would help lead a de-cluttered, meaningful life. This is the key to enhanced productivity in Work and Life.

So far 9, but I definitely will be able to finish my current read before the end of the year, so I'll likely round out at 10. I do read Harry Potter aloud to my husband when we travel, so with all of our planned holiday travel there's a slim chance I'll be able to squeeze in an 11th book for the year, but we'll see.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

The Count of Monte Cristo definitely surprised me. I went in it not knowing what to expect, but the way the story weaved together was just phenomenal. I had Count of Monte Cristo withdrawls once I finished it- it took me at least a couple of weeks to get over how good it was.

25. What reading goals do you have for next year?

The biggest goal I have is to reread Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. 2020 is my year!!!

I also have a more reasonable goal to finish rereading The Hunger Ganes before June (when the prequel comes out).

Other than that I'll just be chipping away at my long term goal of reading every book on my bookshelf. Once I finish my current read, I'll be 1/3 of the way done and it only took me....2.5 years to do so 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

2. What is your character’s relationship with their family? Family is a word which here refers to biological relatives, close companions, and/or the individual(s) who raised them.

Ivien has an extreeeeemely complicated relationship with their family. Their actual family, in the woods of Ailill, always scorned them for being too ambitious or too adventurous; when they eventually got too far to find their way back home, and being picked up by their adopted parents, an Elven druid and Elven Barbarian, they were manipulated and very much in a Rapunzel/Mother Gothel situation despite Ivie wanting to return home. After eventually snapping, fighting them and running away and eventually getting back home they were met with cold shoulders, the, “we’ve already mourned you, you should have stayed away,” nonsense that very much makes them hate their familial relations as much as they yearn belonging? And like, the family they found in the army was always kept at a distance, except for a few particulars, because war takes lives ofc. With the group, they’re starting to consider Yara and Talwar family, but are still arms length and afraid of hurting them and being hurt like everyone else has.

Ivie was one of many many many children and was always struggling to get attention, but because they never got it, their elder siblings usually chosen over them, and their knack for running away? They were often met with impatience and scorn, and like in the last question, Adopted Parents were Assholes and Manipulative and made them a very Angry person

Running away when they get overwhelmed, abandoning the people they care about or the people who care for them, in their own mind they believe they’ll end up hurting or being hurt by? (yikes thats loaded). Also, making animal sounds and using wild shape to avoid social interaction lmao
