An Open Letter to JK Rowling
I wrote this for a writing class and thought ya’ll might like this
Dear JK Rowling,
My parents did not like your Harry Potter books, nor did they like you, but despite that I became obsessed with your books, largely thanks to the help of my friends. When I was in fifth grade I wrote my first book, and it was largely based off of the first Harry Potter book. Your books gave me something to hold onto tight and declare my identity as “Yes, I love the Harry Potter books!” I cannot accurately describe the way I would get so excited when my dad would take me to Emerald City Comic Con and see Harry Potter merchandise. When I went to Los Angeles to visit my Grandmother one year she surprised me by taking me to Harry Potter world in Universal Studios, and I practically vibrated with joy. I sunk more money into the Harry Potter franchise than I did into my education.
But there was another reason I loved your books, a reason I didn’t understand until now. As a child I fell in love with the beautiful and tough Nymphadora Tonks, a love I couldn’t understand until I understood my own gender identity. I’m a genderqueer man, assigned female at birth. When I was thirteen, reading about Hermione getting her teeth shrunk, I would be even more excited to get my Hogwarts letter, thinking that when I would go to Hogwarts I could shed the parts of my skin I hated, such as my breasts. Then, when Tonks was introduced in Order of the Phoenix, I was absolutely in love. I thought “Yes! A character who hates their name, and can change their body to how they wish to see themselves!” I felt represented! I felt like my turquoise hair and hatred of my name was included in a story of fantastical magics and inclusion.
When I was bullied in middle school, I told myself that one day I would go to Hogwarts and all of the bullies disappear. I told myself I could learn magic and be accepted for who I am. I wanted to be recognized, and Hogwarts was the place to go to be recognized and respected. I could have friends that accepted me for who I was, and I could swim with the giant squid in the lake.
But then, when I was about fourteen years old, my heart dropped into my stomach. I learned that the woman who I cared about more than I cared about my own family, considered me to be a “girl tricked by the patriarchy” , and eventually I will grow out of these intense feelings of depression and hating my body in the same way I grew out of my baby clothing. I learned that you, Joanne, would rather befriend people working with neo-nazis than accept that a person assigned born with a vagina might wish for it to be some other way. No Joanne, I am not denying my sex, if anything I am acutely aware of my sex due to the fact I am emotionally scarred by seeing my identity denied by people in power.
I hope that one day you can be willing to listen to us. I also hope that you do not call this an attack on you. I only wish to start a conversation.
Most sincerely,
       Julian

drama is a slytherin trait
me after being sorted into slytherin: spends three hours in an existential crisis, takes the test four more times (hufflepuff, gryffindor, hufflepuff, ravenclaw --merlin, the sorting hat would've been so confused), spends an hour pacing back and forth at midnight, and defends all the options I chose as "not evil" and smarter than the ravenclaw ones.
in hindsight, the amount of drama, the disdain i had when i received gryffindor, and the ruthless analysis of my personality should've clued me in.

What makes JKR's shitshow even harder to process is that she didn't just ruin a book series. Harry Potter was an entire subculture. Like Star Wars and Star Trek fans, Harry Potter fans dedicated their lives and careers to the series. I don't know if I'd call it "underground," but liking Harry Potter got you beaten up when I was in school, so it was more of a dedicated indie culture than a mass-appeal fanbase.
Harry Potter was so huge that fan works developed their own followings. Potter Puppet Pals racked up hundreds of thousands of followers and was nearly as relevant as the series itself. For fanfiction, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality got so big that it has a Wikipedia page. The band Harry and the Potters spawned the wizard rock music genre. A Very Potter Musical developed a fanbase and launched Darren Criss's career.
Harry Potter also has extensive ties to fandom history. Everyone in my generation (millennials) remembers coming home from school to read Harry Potter fanfiction on the Internet. Today, most people just post their stories on Wattpad or Archive of Our Own. But at the time, the fanbase was splintered between fanfiction.net and dozens of individual websites and forums, some made for specific ships. Since they all had individual hosts, a lot of those sites have been lost to time.
And there's the infamous My Immortal fanfiction, which is an Internet legend with people still searching for the author. Everybody read that one (and laughed at it) in middle school.
Pre-social media, fan sites like The Leaky Cauldron and Mugglenet had massive followings because they were one of few sources for news, theories, essays and fan content. Some of these sites still exist after being around for over a decade and building their own legacy.
Before Deathly Hallows came out, fans were so desperate to know what happened that Mugglenet published a book called What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End? Yep...Harry Potter was so big that people wrote separate books about what would happen in an upcoming book.
And that's not mentioning all the book release parties, Harry Potter-themed events, monuments, fan films, restaurants and even a theme park. A lot of fandoms have those, but Harry Potter infiltrated every aspect of popular culture.
Today, there's a thriving culture of "Harry Potter adults" with themed weddings, baby showers and Etsy stores. Putting your Hogwarts house in your Instagram bio is pretty much a prerequisite for joining the "bookish" community. Warner still produces new content, like the Fantastic Beasts series, although we've all seen what a disaster that's been.
Everyone has at least a few memories associated with Harry Potter even if it's just watching the movies. I had great memories associated with Harry Potter. But looking back at the subculture, history and thousands of fan works, it doesn't seem fun anymore. Studying the fandom or being part of it comes with an awkward tension because you don't want to seem like you're condoning JKR's bigotry but can't divorce her from the series. This subculture was spawned by a woman who turned her legacy of magic and wonder into one of abuse and hatred.
I don't expect people to write paragraphs about how much they hate JKR every time they post about Harry Potter, but it's still uncomfortable to see people make new content or wear their Harry Potter Etsy tote bags like nothing happened. Even if they clarify that they don't support her, it's just a weird, tense situation for everybody.
People dedicated years of their lives to running Harry Potter fan sites, writing fanfiction, cosplaying characters and making fan movies. If I were in that situation, I'd have a mild identity crisis. I'd ask myself "Did I waste all those years? Should I delete my content? Where do I go from here?"
So ultimately, JKR didn't ruin "just" a book series or even "just" a fandom. She tanked an entire culture, which inspired people to look at Harry Potter more critically. The issues that people brought to the light tainted the series's legacy even without JKR's personal issues.
Once, Harry Potter was a series for generations. Now, former fans hope that the series fades into irrelevancy. Unfortunately, JKR didn't just tarnish her legacy--she took decades of history, millions of fans and a worldwide subculture along with her.

hi liv! do you know of any draco-centered longish fics??? thanks! i just love him so much
Hi anon, definitely! Here are my favourites:
Heal Thyself by astolat (T, 47k)
"Are you going for the course?" Lovegood asked. "You have the NEWTs.”
“What course?” Draco said, then, “No, don’t be ridiculous,” when he realized she meant the notice pinned up on the board he’d been staring at: Applicants To The Introductory Mediwizard Course For The Coming Term Shall Present Themselves In The Chief Mediwizard’s Office By August 24th.
A Room Up There (And You In It) by @the-starryknight (T, 59k)
When Preservationist Draco Malfoy was assigned to work on Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place, he was excited to delve into the gorgeous Black family antiques. His excitement quickly ended when something in the House decided it did not like his presence one bit.
The Trouble with Wanting by waldorph (E, 60k)
Draco Malfoy is cleared of all charges; this is what happens next.
Tea and No Sympathy by who_la_hoop (E, 70k)
It's Potter's fault, of course, that Draco finds himself trapped in the same twenty-four-hour period, repeating itself over and over again. It's been nearly a year since the unpleasant business at Hogwarts, and Draco's getting on with his life quite nicely, thank you, until Harry sodding Potter steps in and ruins it all, just like always.
Among Ancient Pines by @graymatters (M, 74k)
Every day, Draco Malfoy tries. With every fiber of his being he tries. But he doesn’t much think about what he’s trying for. In his final term of Healer training, Draco is unfortunate enough to find himself on a plane, the only means of traveling to a small, magical town in rural Alaska.
Super Rich Kids by @thusspoketrish (E, 81k)
Draco Malfoy has become disillusioned by the glitz and glamour of the scandalous lives of the Post-Second Wizarding War Pureblood Elite. Enter: one existential crisis, one group of thieving cynical friends, and several terrible, terrible decisions.
A Thousand Beautiful Things by geoviki (M, 104k)
Draco Malfoy struggles with changed fortunes, shifted alliances, an ugly war, and an unusual spell, with the help of a concerned professor, an insightful house-elf, and an unexpected Gryffindor friend.
Nor All That Glisters by @sweet-s0rr0w (E, 110k)
Lonely and frustrated on house arrest, with no prospects for the future, Draco begins brewing Felix Felicis in an attempt to improve his lot. Just in the short term, of course. He isn’t a total idiot.
Far From The Tree by aideomai (E, 112k)
The arrival of Harry Potter’s children—snapped back in time, the children themselves guessed, twenty or so years—was the most interesting thing to happen at Hogwarts for years.
All Life is Yours to Miss by Saras_Girl (M, 114k)
Professor Malfoy's world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
What We Pretend We Can't See by gyzym (M, 131k)
Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
Any Instrument by @dictacontrion (E, 131k)
Draco Malfoy wouldn't go back to England for anything less than an exceptional case. Being asked to figure out why Harry Potter can't control his magic might be exceptional enough to qualify.
There Is Always the Moon by @firethesound (T, 159k)
Draco's life after the war is everything he wanted it to be: it's simple, and quiet, and predictable, and safe. But when a mysterious curse shatters the peace he'd worked so hard to build, there's only one person he can trust to help him. After all, Harry Potter has saved his life before. Now Draco has to believe that Potter will be able to do it one more time.

2023 Fic Roundup
January-Present
marginalia (266k & counting, WIP, Wolfstar, E)
This story began a long time ago. That part is already written. Nothing can be done about it now. It began with two young men—barely more than boys—who upended the world, magical and mundane alike. Grindelwald and Dumbledore, glorious leaders of the revolution, who brought wizardkind out of hiding and into the light during those last, violent days of 1899. But a winter's night seventy-seven years later is where things really kick off. Because Remus Lupin knows what to expect when you’ve been sold somewhere new. He knows it better than he ever thought he'd have to by this point. He knows how to survive. And Sirius Black is doing his best to just graduate Hogwarts and get himself and his brother away from this goddamn house in one piece. He's got it figured out by now. He has a plan. Neither of them, however, had accounted for the other messing everything up by the sheer fact of just existing. Dystopian AU.
March
twentieth-century boy (2.4k, Wolfstar, E)
On the occasion of Remus Lupin's 19th birthday, Sirius has the perfect present in mind. It involves Padfoot's collar and leash.
May
unstitch that shed-off soul (312, Wolfstar, M)
Sirius Black is eighteen years old, has snogged Remus Lupin nine times, and has seen him without a shirt exactly never. Or, the one where a few boundaries come down.
zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance (251, Wolfstar + James, T)
Sirius has a new hobby, and James doesn't like it one bit.
by any other name (579, Wolfstar + James, E)
James undergoes a Doc Martens-induced identity crisis. Crackfic.
June
there is freedom in the dark (655, Wolfstar, T)
A month ago, Remus wouldn’t have simply allowed himself into the captain's quarters like this, a much-needed reprieve after the dust's settled from taking their latest prize. He definitely wouldn’t have laughed in his face like this, the dread Captain Sirius Black frozen in place, vaguely ridiculous with the question half-caught in his lips. Pirate AU inspired by Black Sails.
July
history books forgot about us (25k, Tedromeda, E)
Andromeda Black meets Ted Tonks quite by accident, and it’s something like mischief at first sight. From the lost papers and mixed-up files of the marginalia universe, the complete history of a relationship that was never meant to happen.

I love Rosekiller and I think I’ll make a fic rec list about it. Enjoy reading!!
Check the reblogs for more fic recs :)
1. any fic by graveryavery
My summary (MS): seriously, they’re amazing at writing. Have your pick of whichever fic.
Link: graveryavery
2. Drunk on Love by amethyst_citrine
status: 1/1
Summary: Evan Rosier has been in love with his best friend for years. He thinks that every time Barty Crouch Jr. flirts with him, it's just an act, making him roll his eyes and walk away. But maybe Evan is drunk, and thinks it's a good idea to stop running.
MS: Rosekiller at a party. Oh, what could go wrong? These two lovebirds are such idiots honestly
Link: Drunk on Love
3. Midnight Rain by blackmojito
status: 1/1
Summary: In the middle of December, in a house that's not his own, Evan learns the true meaning of warmth.
MS: I love their writing style in its short, sweet way. Also fluffy christmas fics? yes please 🤲
Link: Midnight Rain
4. I’m Not Going To Teach Him How To Dance With You by greensenne
status: 18/18
Summary:
“You’d be my best man wouldn’t you, Evs?
There’s an ugly pain burning low in his chest as he says, “Of course. What are friends for?”
Or, Barty's father forces him into an arranged marriage, and Evan is to be his best man. Which would be fine if Evan weren't head over heels in love with him.
MS: I know, this is a classic and everyone’s heard of it. But for the new people, this is probably a good place to start to get into shipping Rosekiller. And yk, a reread would be good 🤭
Link: The fic bcuz the title is too long
5. Spider-Man: Death Eater Parade by basiliscus
Status: 5/14
Summary: Evan Rosier has been Spider-Man since he was 15 years old and he is tired. He saw it all, he did it all and he hates himself more than any Rita Skeeter ever could. Evan Rosier has seen people die. He let people die. Evan Rosier is tired, his moral code is broken and then a ghost from the past comes to haunt him 5 years after he thought he buried him and sent him off to hell.
Barty Crouch hates Spider-Man. He can't stand the bastard who's willing to let people die when he has the ability to prevent it. Barty spends almost every day on whatever scene Spider-Man goes to. Only break to this routine is an awkward university dropout Evan Rosier that stumbles into his life.
Evan is living a double life as Spider-Man and quite literally hates it. He meets the only person who hates him more than he hates himself.
There's no person on Earth who hates Spider-Man more than Barty. The issue is Barty falls for Evan.
MS: Alright, here’s a Spider-Man alternate au fic with double identities and a enemies to lovers. It is still ongoing though, but love anyway
Link: Spider-Man: Death Eater Parade
6. A Truthful Joke by justreadandwritex
Status: 9/9
Summary: Evan and Barty have been best friends since the age of three. Now they're sixteen, at Hogwarts, surrounded by couples. They joke about it - a lot - but at a certain point, when is it a joke and when is it a desire?
On top of a sexuality crisis and family issues, has to deal with another feeling, or rather feelings. For his best friend.
And while his best friend seems to pull away from him, Barty tries everything in his power to keep Evan in his life. They're best friends after all, right? Just friends. Ha.
*Some chapters will discuss homophobia or family issues but I always give trigger warnings
MS: It’s beautiful and I like it. That’s it.
Link: A Truthful Joke
7. Annoying by godforsaken_mess
Status: 31/31
Summary: barty accidentally texts the wrong number. evan just happens to be the victim.
a texting story that i got the idea to write at 3am so you can expect perfection (sarcasm).
obviously rosekiller is the main ship but i'll shift focus onto the other ones from time to time so that they can happen as well.
more focus on the slytherins ofc but the friend group is split up so please forgive me 🙏
i don't own any of these characters!!
MS: Evan is a little shit here and I love him so it’s fine. Also love a good text fic so just 🫶
Link: Annoying
8. Call It What You Want by lxcuxex
Status: 1/1
Summary:
“Sometimes you two are worse than Regulus and James.”
Evan’s attention immediately snapped towards Dorcas who paused mid bite, “What? It’s true. You’re bickering like a married couple.”
Barty simply grinned, leaning forward. “Our fifth anniversary is coming up isn’t it my sweet Evan? Shall we go on a trip, love? Perhaps the countryside?” He suggested, watching as Evan’s face flushed a pink, bright on his freckled cheeks.
or
The one where Barty and Evan are too clueless to realize they are basically boyfriends.
MS: The last part of the summary is so true though. Anyway, love this fic and idk how many times i’ve reread it
Link: Call It What You Want
9. One got shot and the other got lost by All_for_the_andreil
Status: 1/1
Summary:
“Barty, what the fuck?”
-or-
Barty Crouch Jr. slowly losing his mind when he thinks Evan is dead and then being his psychotic self when he finds out he's being held hostage instead
TW: Blood and violence
MS: Look, I know I said I love a lot of the fics here but this one might take the cake. I love psycho Rosekiller even more than I love fluffy Rosekiller. If you look carefully, you’ll notice this may be the only crazy, semi-canon fic in this rec list, so yes.
Link: Too long title that I’m lazy to type
10. don’t want none of this (good times all times) by cherryknots
Status: 1/1
Summary:
“They’re messing with you both,” Lily whispered in his ear, and he had to lean in close to hear her over the cheers that were louder now as the kisses around the circle grew sloppier with each couple.
“Hm?” Evan blinked, still staring at the spot that had been previously occupied by Sirius. He was long gone now.
“Sirius and Barty,” Lily clarified patiently. “They got you and Remus right where they wanted you. I think that Sirius is currently… making it up to Remus right now in the dorm…"
Evan lifted his eyes back to Barty, who was still staring at him. At how close he was to Lily, a frown deepening on his face.
Oh?
So that’s what this was?
A small smile grew on Evan’s face, and he nodded in understanding. If Barty wanted to play, then Evan would, too.
or, Evan is dragged to another Gryffindor party, and to his dismay, Barty has to kiss Sirius Black during Spin the Bottle.
MS: Evan flirting back to Barty? Are you serious? Yes please. *snatches it and consumes greedily* but anyway, it’s a short fic about them messing with each other, although I have no idea why they would want to do that but yk, ok
Link: Too long title yet again
11. The Very First Night by constellationgrayson
Status: 1/1
Summary: Barty is a detective. Evan is a jewel thief.
But Barty wasn't always a detective, and one look from Evan is making him wonder if his new life is really as fulfilling as he wants it to be.
MS: A somewhat forbidden romance and I am insanely grateful to the author for making it a fade to black kinda scene at one point. Or maybe I just skipped it I can’t remember.
Link: The Very First Night
12. We Found Wonderland by kazsbf
Status: 1/1
Summary:
"Barty never liked closed captions before he met Evan. He hated the idea of having to read something he was meant to be watching, but he learned to love having closed captions automatically turned on for all his devices. He even had them set to automatic on his phone just in case Evan wanted to watch something when they were in the car or the library. He liked seeing Evan's eyes light up when he didn't have to turn them on and make accommodations for himself--they were already there for him."
MS: In other words: Evan is deaf and Barty arranges a date for them that accommodates his disability 🫶 Barty being the sweetest boyfriend
Link: We Found Wonderland
13. remember that night by regulvrs
Status: 1/1
Summary: Evan and Barty share their first kiss. The only problem? Barty doesn't remember it. And that ruins Evan.
MS: Angst with a happy ending! I wanted to throw something at Barty to knock some sense into him but tbf to him, he was drunk, though I have no idea how it works having never drank before or see someone truly drunk but ok
Link: remember that night
14. Sparks fly by bluesofacushion
Status: 1/1
Summary: Evan is head over heels in love with one of his best friends. What can he do? It’s not like Barty likes him back. He is fully determined to keep his secret with him to the grave but Pandora has other plans.
Based on ‘Sparks Fly’ by Taylor Swift so it’s mostly just fluff
MS: It is a sweet fic that is yes, mostly fluff
Link: Sparks fly
15. gods & monsters by littleredpartydress
Status: 1/1
Summary:
“Barty, can we talk?” Evan asked.
Fuck. Is it serious? He couldn’t talk to Evan about something serious right now.
“It’s private so, uh, do you mind following me?”
Of course he minded.
“Sure,” Barty agreed.
OR
Barty and Evan get together after Evan is encouraged by Pandora.
MS: Pandora being the matchmaker here is beautiful
Link: gods & monsters
16. To Be Seen by twoclosetothestars
Status: 1/1
Summary:
“Well, how long have you liked me for?” Evan asks.
“Since when I stayed at your house for summer break before fourth year,” Barty confesses.
“So really you have no room to judge because you didn't mention anything either!” Evan points out.
“Whatever,” Barty grumbles. “We’re both idiots. Now can we get to the part where we kiss because I’m really looking forward to that part?”
“I’m an idiot now, am I?”
“Yes,” Barty agrees. “An annoyingly beautiful, funny, smart, amazing idiot who I’d really like to kiss right now.”
“Sweet talker,” Evan teases, and then his lips are on Barty’s.
MS: They are idiots in love, your honor
Link: To Be Seen
17. All for you by dramaticwitchbitch
Status: 1/1
Summary: Evan was pining. He knew he was. But simply knowing that did not make him feels less pathetic. It should be impossible to fall on love with one’s best friend. But Evan’s poor heart had gone and done it anyway. Barty, of course, was wholly oblivious to Evans pining. Evan supposed it was a blessing anyway. He wasn’t sure if their friendship would survive the thing.
The thing, was what Evan called is quiet obsession with Barty that threatened to burst put into a huge love confession along the lines of, love me like I love you, let’s grow old together; every time Barty smiled at him. Or flirted with him. Or just sat next to him, smelling sinfully good. Or just existing in Evan’s vicinity. Evan had it bad.
MS: Rose is down so bad and so is Bee
Link: All for you
Hope you enjoyed reading all of them :) and surprise surprise, there are more fics that I have yet to read so i’ll most likely be adding on to this :D

Some dark Harry/Ginny head-cannons cause they went through a war and its unlikely that they are fully okay
(Tw: Alcoholism, PTSD)
These are all my head-cannons and its ok to not agree with all this :) but please reblog with more head cannons if you do have!
Read under the cut<3
Harry had PTSD and intense flashbacks. So he drowned himself in work as soon as he could. He finds balance once he gets married and slowly starts finding peace when even while not being occupied.
He pushes away everyone during the first dew days after the battle and stays in hogwarts. Later on, he comes to the burrow after all the services are done. He only starts to eat properly once he gets there.
Harry goes to therapy when he starts working (With Kingsleys deal of letting him and Ron work, only if they received some help) Although he was hesitant at first, he truly gains clarity from it. Later on when Ginny gets out of school, he stops seeing the mind healer, realizing that talking to Ginny is enough for him to get comfort.
Harry dwells a lot on the fact that Tom was a part of him for his whole life. And he tries to hide that from Ginny; in fear that she would be terrified of him. But Ginny helps him to get out of his identity crisis and to assure him.
He attends most of the trials for death eaters snd stands as witness. Although it made him drained it was a solace to see them being sentenced to their due punishments.
Harry frames all the pictures of his parents and hangs them in his home. His kids knows them and loves them. He takes them to their graveyard every halloween and whenever they requests.
Harry’s overprotectiveness never ends. He would live everyday scared to death that he might lose someone again. He conjured many charms around his house, and had his wedding band made to sense him if any of his family was in danger.
Ginny makes sure she doesn’t break down until her mom is okay. She continues her numb behavior for so long that she starts drinking. It continues once she starts Hogwarts as well; making Hermione very concerned on the fact that she’s half drunk all the time.
She does not do well academically in the last year as she herself expected, but manages to win all her quidditch matches as the quidditch captain; achieving her goal of being recruited for the try outs of harpies.
There was a short time after hogwarts where she was never sober. And Harry, Hermione, Ron and Bill had to have an intervention with her. This made her utter some very hard truths given her state.
She almost tried to convince Harry that he should find a better girlfriend who can make him happy rather than the mess she was at that time which Harry rejected all through.
Harry was very concerned but understood her struggle. They both helped each other at their worst times. For Harry it was immediately after the war and with Ginny it took some time reach the peak of her breakdown.
At the end Ginny slowly started to control it and went to therapy; just like most of her family did which she refused before. She truly gained some sense to her grief, as well the effects of the relationship he had with the diary and Tom.
Harry and Ginny were happy. Truly they were. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t go through hard times. One thing that drived them to get better was having each other and having a future to build together.

Blind Loyalty Pt 1 Ominis Gaunt x Reader
Whispers in The Halls
Summary: Its the first day back at Hogwarts and everyone is talking about the new student in Slytherin. Y/n and Ominis have their first encounter with the fifth year and it already causes some mistrust to stir up.
Word Count: 1352
Warnings: None yet. This is about Professor Black's niece and follows the HL timeline.
A/n: I think this is terrible so we'll see if it gets a second part. Also!! This is not proof read so if you see mistakes lmk. Thank you.
Tumblr media
You sat in between Ominis and Imelda, Sebastian on her other side. You weren't quite sure why you were all still sat in the Great Hall. But when you looked up at the professors, Professor Black was strictly talking to Professor Weasley.
"What on earth are we still doing here?" Ominis complains.
"I haven't a clue. Black seems to be upset with Professor Weasley though." You say absentmindedly, trying to think of what could have enraged your uncle this much.
"Maybe he found a troll in the dungeons." Sebastian jests from across the table.
"Seriously? I have flying first thing in the morning. I need to polish my broom!" Imelda complained.
"Please Imelda. Everyone knows you're the best flyer at school." You say with the intent to get her to stop complaining.
Just as she was about to complain further all four of you whipped your heads to the entrance to the Great Hall.
Professor Black walks back toward the Sorting Hat with an older student trailing behind him. They seem disheveled and breathing hard, either from the nerves or the stairs you cant tell.
Ominis picks up on the chatter, "What? What is it?"
"Some new student, Min. But they look like our age. I hope they don't get sorted in our house. They look like trouble." You glance at Ominis, who nods but faces forward again. Something he does when he's trying to use his other sense better.
"Don't say that (Y/n). A new student could be a fun distraction from Anne." Sebastian says, not even looking at you and Ominis, who is also annoyed by his remark about his sick sister.
"Nobody can replace Anne." Ominis says, venom dripping in his tone.
"I'm not saying they will, I'm saying maybe it'd be good for us to find trouble elsewhere." Sebastian defends.
"Can you three put a sock in it? I'm trying to hear!" Imelda interrupts before you could give your input on the whole situation.
"Slytherin!"
"Oh bloody hell!" You curse under your breath.
"Language!" Ominis smacks your sleeve and you give a surprised yelp.
"Awe look at that the two lovebirds are fighting like their already married."
This comment elicited a glare from both you and Ominis. Both of you being from two vary powerful pureblood families and in the same house, its no surprise you ended up as friends. Your uncle, Phineas Black was headmaster at Hogwarts. As for Ominis, well his father was a direct descendant of Slytherin, weather Ominis wanted to accept that or not.
Ominis and you met first year. He was there for you when your mother went off the rails after your father died and married a muggle. After that you started to live with your uncle and his wife and their three sons. You and Sebastian were around for the falling out Ominis had with his parents. The three of you were always there for each other.  This time though, with Sebastian going through his own family crisis, he doesn't seem to be even acknowledging that this is the first year ever that the group is a member short.
You seethed at him, "We're not together."
After Professor Black announce no Quidditch this year, you knew that the walk back to the common room would be filled with grumbling from both Sebastian and Imelda.
"He dared to cancel Quidditch this year? What am I going to do!" Imelda started, the second you four left the Great Hall.
"Maybe you can race people. That way I can still watch people fall off their brooms!" Sebastian suggest.
Both you and Ominis took slow steps away from them.
"I cant believe that new kid was sorted with us. I don't know how to explain it Ominis but I have a bad feeling about them." "Oh please (Y/n). You mustn't be so pessimistic. I'm sure their a great person."
"You see the irony in you calling me a pessimist right?" You giggle.
He rolls his eyes, thinking of something snarky to say but you quickly grab his shoulder to stop him.
"I'm tired Ominis. Good night. Make sure Seb doesn't get expelled on the first day."
"This is far from over Black!" He shouts as you descend the stairs to your dorm.
--------
In the morning you sit on the floor next to Ominis, who leans against the wall next to the windows under the Black Lake. He has been teasing the first years all morning.
"If you look hard enough you can see a mermaid in the Black Lake." He told two siblings, who were particularly drawn to the window this morning.
"Ominis-" You start to scold him but the new fifth year interrupts you.
Ominis stands to address the new student, but you simply shift further into the wall, wanting nothing to do with this conversation.
"Ah based on all the chatter going around the common room, I'm guessing you must be the new fifth year. I'm Ominis. Ominis Gaunt. And this little ray of Sunshine is (Y/n) Black." Ominis points to you on the floor and you scoff so he can hear your displeasure.
"Nice to meet you Ominis." They greet.
"Well you certainly had a memorable arrival." He teased.
The rumors about the dragon attack speak like wild fire in the 12 hours before this conversation. You were the one to have told Ominis, since you actually bunk with the new fifth year.
"Well if I'm going to make my mark here, I had to start right away." They brag. You just roll your eyes.
Ominis gives a surprised laugh, "You are defiantly in the right house. Do let me know if there is anything I can do to help you navigate your first days here, though I doubt you'll have any trouble."
"Did you expect to be put into Slytherin?" They question.
"What is this? An interview of anyone whos remotely famous around here?" You mutter under your breath. Just loud enough for him to hear you.
Ominis gives a nervous laugh, trying to be more polite then you, "Of course. My family on my fathers side are direct descendants of Salthazar Slytherin himself. Not something I am especially proud of mind you. " He pauses, and turns his head towards you. "As for (Y/n), well they too have a lasting relationship with the house. But both of our families are obsessed with blood status so it's a topic we both try to avoid."
The student looks at you on the floor. You continue to wear a blank expression and look from the window to Ominis then back out the window, bored.
"Yes well urm- did that boy say he heard a mermaid?" They point out the window.
"Oh yes. But I've never heard of a mermaid showing up outside our common room window."
The two first years grumble in disappointment before heading off to their first class.
"Him and Seb like to tease the first years." You butt in, earning you a foot to your knee for interrupting him.
"It is fun to play along though. Know to keep some first years on the look out for hours."
"Thank you Ominis. it was night to meet the pair of you." The fifth year walk off to Sebastian.
Ominis leans back against the wall. "Okay I see what you mean."
"Yeah." You scoff. "They practically jumped at the opportunity to ask you about your house. Why did you have to tell them about out lineage? We both agreed not to bring it up unless we have to."
"I wanted them to know that we have connections, in case they start to get the wrong idea."
You stand up from your spot, facing him head on, even if he is nearly a foot taller then you now, "And if your new best friend starts asking about the Chamber or the locket?"
"They won't." Ominis says confidently.
"And if Sebastian tells them?" You gauge his reaction. The shock at the idea of it being Sebastian who tells people about what Ominis might know about Hogwarts shows on his now paler face.
"I- he wouldn't. He has been my best friend longer than you have. He would not go behind my back like that." He shutters at the idea.
"If you say so Min. I'm going to breaky. You do what you must." And with that you walk away to go meet Poppy and Natty in the Great Hall.

“It’s not so bad.”
And it wasn’t. It had all the clinical neatness of Percy’s room back home, just with less furniture. What Percy lacked in bed frames and side tables, he made up for in stuff; there was no other word for it.
Ginny stepped over a stack of books which were balanced bizarrely a foot in front of the door. The top book was titled ‘Laws and Regulations of Quidditch’ - Ginny had read that one before. She trailed her fingers over the words as she made her way further in, kicking her shoes off before stepping onto the thick shag rug that she happened to know he’d filched from his room at Hogwarts.
“Yes, well. I’m working on it.”
He sounded particularly flat these days. Ginny glanced up at him over her book. He sat cross-legged on the sofa, a laptop balanced on bony knees as he tapped away at it halfheartedly, even as his eyes darted critically around the living room.
Things were different after the war. The ministry was still in crisis mode, all cylinders firing while they attempted desperately to clear out all of the death eater-flavoured corruption that had been festering for decades. It meant holding trials for convicted criminals, while unconvicted criminals sat in the stands judging them. It was an utter mess.
Harry had spent the last year sitting in on nearly every single one. He wasn’t a man suited to politics in any way, but he fought diligently to protect the people who didn’t deserve to be there, and name everyone he knew who did.
He’d gotten Draco Malfoy out of a sentence in Azkaban, and had dropped his mother’s sentence down to a few years of house arrest. Ginny personally thought that Azkaban was a waste anyway, on account of them having no soul to be sucked out, but upon voicing that she’d gotten a chastising look and much good-hearted explanation about difficult situations.
Ginny knew difficult situations. She’d raised and led a rebellion among children who were tortured for failing to be soldiers. Draco Malfoy had kissed the shoes of Voldemort and left them to die.
Whatever. There was a reason that the ministry let Harry sit in on their trials, and not Ginny.
“Working?”
“Trying to. Drinks are in the fridge.”
“Muggle.”
Percy sent her a scathing look. She grinned, stepping over even more plastic files and loose leaves of paper as she stepped into the small kitchen.
While the ministry busied itself with self-destructing under the watchful eye of the Chosen One, Percy had quit. It was about the closest he’d come to having a spine in his entire life, as far as Ginny could remember. She wished he’d done it a bit earlier, but going by the haunted look in his eyes that had seared itself into her brain some time around them wrapping Fred’s body in blankets to carry it out of the great hall, so did he.
“What shit is this?” Ginny groaned, popping the fridge door open.
Percy didn’t do well with boredom. He needed to have his time effectively filled or he went mad. In the immediate aftermath of the war, he’d disappeared. He’d cut himself off, vanished into nothing. Mum had torn herself to pieces over it. Losing two sons at once was… well, more than any of them could handle.
When he’d finally turned up on their doorstep with the general air of a cat who’d gotten caught in the rain, it had been with an offer from a muggle university and the hope that he could work in the muggle government. After the screaming and crying and fighting, Ginny had settled herself on the edge of the bed and asked him what had changed.
He’d said ‘everything’, and they’d left it at that.
“It’s effective. I’m poor.”
He’d picked up all sorts of muggle quirks. Ginny was getting used to it.
“‘Vodka’? What the fuck even is that?”
“Take a shot of it. It tastes like shit and it burns the whole way down, but you’ll be drunk in 10 minutes.”
Ginny studied the bottle curiously. Sounded good to her. She reached into the cabinet above the sink, plucking out a couple of shot glasses before picking her way back to the sofa.
It took a little skill balancing them all in one hand, but she eventually managed to effectively free the other hand long enough to slam Percy’s laptop closed on his fingers. He hissed a few nasty insults, but took the hint and slid it onto the floor, grabbing his glass from Ginny with no small amount of irritation.
“Alright.” Ginny began, topping their glasses off with the clear liquid. It smelled foul, harsh and chemical, but she didn’t complain. “What is it.”
It wasn’t really a question anymore. They often talked about the same thing. Percy wrinkled his lip, though whether it was at the ‘vodka’ or the memory, Ginny wasn’t sure.
He knocked it back with practised skill, coughed a little, and sighed. “He bought me dinner.”
Ginny closed her eyes. Of course he did. She could just about picture Oliver Wood’s face in her mind's eye. He was usually windswept, sweaty, bright red in the face, and grinning like a madman. She didn’t see him off the court often, considering they were so far apart in years, so that had always been the image that stuck with her. Passably handsome, but not her type.
She pressed the shot glass to her lips, braced herself, and tossed it back as quickly as she could. Percy was right. It did burn.
“God, that’s fucking awful.” She choked, but Percy, who had been staring unseeingly at the wall the whole time nodded solemnly.
“Isn’t it? I don’t know what to make of it. It feels important.”
Ginny swallowed against the urge to keep coughing and blinked at her brother through teary eyes.
He looked horrid. Pallid and gaunt, half-dead in his seat. He was working himself to the bone, trying to make up for all of the things that he did, the people he let down. Like the rest of them, he carried Fred’s weight on his shoulders, the feeling that he could have done something but didn’t just as heavy in his heart.
He wanted to believe that he was helping in whatever way he could, and if it took the very life from inside of him to do it, then that’s what he would give. It was a big part of the reason that Ginny was even bothering to drag herself around muggle transportation to visit him so often. Nobody else would.
He hadn’t been cut off, per se, but no one was going out of their way to see him. He visited home for Sunday dinner, just like the rest of them did. The only difference was that Ginny went out drinking with Ron often, and went to the muggle movies just a few weeks ago with George, and even travelled to Romania to spend the week with Charlie at the dragon centre. She babysat for Bill and Fleur every other week on Thursday.
And Percy sat in his flat, on his own, drinking and working. Unless he went out for food with Oliver Wood.
“Well, it doesn’t sound like ‘nothing’.”
That’s what Wood had called it last time Ginny had been over. The flirting, and the pining, and the endless drunken complaining. All nothing. Within a few days, Percy had gone from nervously pink, even managing a bit of a smile when Ginny got him drunk enough to admit how handsome he found Wood, to this. Grey, tired, monotone.
“Merlin.” Percy sighed. “I feel foolish every time. He hurt me, and I still leapt at the chance to go out with him again.” He held his shot up, and Ginny dutifully refilled it. “But I can’t quite tell him to bugger off either.”
“You need to be clearer, Perce. About what you want from him.”
He looked desolate. Ginny hated Oliver Wood.
She hadn’t always gotten on with Percy. She was more like the twins, fiery and angry and mischievous. Her accidental magic manifested as pranks so often that they’d called her the triplet. Percy had begged on his knees for a week before mum agreed to put a charm on his bedroom door that stopped Ginny from sneaking in to set his socks on fire, or make his duvet wrap him up and drag him down the stairs.
She’d thought he was a boring, stuck up, bastard of a brother. And then she’d thought him a foul coward.
Now, he was barely a smudge on the sofa of his new apartment, 20 minutes away from a muggle university campus, drinking disgusting ‘vodka’ and mourning his fragile, fractured relationship with Oliver fucking Wood.
Ginny had worshipped him once, the picture of the athlete she wanted to be. Now, in the burnt-out wreckage of the wizarding world, her priorities had shifted. She had learned to love her brother again, and she hurt to see him suffer like this.
“What if I don’t know what I want?”
“You have to figure it out eventually.”
“What if I decide I want nothing to do with him?” Percy asked, finishing another shot as Ginny prepared her own. “If I just make him stop tugging me around.”
“Is there much tugging going on?” Ginny asked, voice innocent as though she wasn’t hiding a smirk behind her shot. Percy went a little pink, lips pursed in distaste.
“Absolutely not. Not since… well.”
Ginny hummed in understanding. Percy had been utterly pissed when he divulged that particular piece of information.
They hadn’t gotten close quickly. It had started awkward and stilted. Percy wasn’t interested in fixing things in the family. He wanted to slip away unnoticed and forget any of it had ever happened, to ignore the wounds until they finally killed him. Ginny had been absolutely determined to make him remember, no matter how painful it had happened to be.
One of them had managed to convince the other that it would be easier if they were drunk, though Ginny couldn’t remember which of them it was, exactly. They’d barely been upright when Percy managed to slur out a small truth - Oliver Wood of all people had pressed him into castle walls and kissed him senseless in their sixth year. They’d been on and off, close and distant, ever since.
On a particularly low night, Percy had invited him over to spend the night. Things had gone cold for months after. Ginny listened patiently, stomach turning dangerously as she’d stared into her beer, the frightened, scarred words of her least favourite brother ringing painfully in her ears.
He’d kept it short, constantly cutting himself off. The more intimate it got, the more professionally he spoke. He described his relationship to Penelope Clearwater clinically, voice flat. I never loved her. I knew I never could.
Ginny thought of Harry. He was bigger than the world sometimes, too bright to look at. He had big ideals. He’d walked out of the war with this deep desire to change things, to protect the people who’d survived it all, to make the world better. He’d dropped out of Auror training to get a teaching degree. He’d run a couple of speeches through newspapers before deciding he hated the attention.
He was a mess, essentially, but a beautiful one. Nothing could slow him down. Meanwhile, Ginny was stumbling to keep up with him. She’d taken a year off her Quidditch training to mourn Fred. She spent long days cradling her mother’s tear-stained face, and burned through her clothes when she forgot she was ironing them. The world had slowed to a crawl. She couldn’t keep up.
She thought about how she admired Harry, in all his fierce determination to save the world. It had made her want to keep fighting for it. When the Carricks flicked a curse at her, she thought of him. If Harry could, she could.
“Well, what about you? Any- tugging?”
Percy made a face when he said it, like he was sucking on a lemon. Ginny laughed, knocking back another shot. It was still harsh, but the faint haze across her eyes softened it. Percy had been right - it worked quickly. She sighed.
“None. I haven’t the faintest of how to ask her.”
Percy huffed, leaning his shoulder into the back of the sofa. Ginny had thought about it a lot. Maybe she’d mistaken admiration for love. Maybe she’d mistaken friendship for something more. Maybe the quiet fascination at Luna’s stories, and the way the light filtered through her pale hair, and the little crease at the corner of her mouth when she smiled in satisfaction - one which didn’t appear when she smiled in excitement - maybe all of that wasn’t platonic observation.
So no, Ginny and Percy hadn’t gotten close quickly. But there was something about being the only gay siblings among 7 that helped the process along quite a bit.
“Buy her something. Something pretty.”
“She’s not very material, Perce.”
“For Merlin’s sake.” He hissed, flicking Ginny’s knee. “That isn’t the point. It’s not about the thing, it’s about the thought behind it.”
“Surely it’s more thoughtful of me to not buy something she won’t want? And besides, I don’t see you buying Wood anything.”
Percy sighed shortly, studying the empty shot glass in his hand with enough intensity to smash it to pieces. “I’m not spending money on that bastard.”
“He spent money on you.” Ginny pointed out, immediately receiving a nasty glare in response. After a moment, it faded.
“I suppose.”
“That’s your in. You can tell him you owe him a meal or something. Find a way to spend the day with him.”
Ginny didn’t have any trouble inviting Luna out for the day. She was happy to go wherever Ginny pleased, smiling all soft and pretty as she always did. She had a story to tell about every stone, every flower, every new face they passed. The problem lay with drawing the line between friendship and romance.
Percy was almost the opposite. It seemed that the only interactions he managed to have with Wood were flirty and charged. Actually getting to know each other was the only hurdle they had.
“Maybe. But I’m busy.”
“Percy.”
“I said maybe, didn’t I? Merlin.” He grabbed the vodka from Ginny’s hand, filling his glass quickly. “It’s so bloody difficult.”
“Welcome to homosexuality.” Ginny offered, ignoring the nervous flash of Percy’s eyes when she said it. She was working carefully on making him a little less afraid of words like that. His own insecurities were just as much of a hurdle as Wood’s apparent inability to commit to anything. Well, they were all recovering.
If Ginny was braver, and Luna less agreeable, and Percy more self-actualised, and Wood more confident, maybe they’d all be happy. But war did funny things to people.
Silently, Percy topped off Ginny’s shot and clinked their glasses together.
“Cheers to that.”

Hey Liv,
My friend had the most chaotic day today. She left on holiday and ended up packing at the last minute. Cue bags overflowing in every room, a dog to get into the car, a kid to pick up at daycare and no time to spare.
THEN her husband’s car broke down so she had to go pick him up almost two hours away with both dog and baby in the backseat….
All this so say: she might need a pick me up.
Do you have a Drarry rec where either of them (or both) are absolute chaos/ are under a bad luck spell /…?
Love love love ❤️
Omg your poor friend! 😱 I’m sorry things have been wild for her, that sounds super stressful and overwhelming! I hope everything was okay in the end. This story actually led to a really interesting ask, I did a mix of curses, pranks and bad luck with a touch of angst at the end - hope they work for what you’re looking for!
Humor/Fluff:
Bad Luck, Red Pants, and Broken Washing Machines by @the-starryknight (T, 2k)
After his five year sentence of magical suppression, Draco Malfoy got used to working without his wand. It's just days like today when nothing seems to be going right that he regrets his life in the Muggle world.
Special Affinity by @skeptiquewrites (E, 4k)
Auror partners Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy seem to have a special affinity for getting into convoluted accidental bonds. Once is a mistake, twice is bad luck, and five times...well five times seems like carelessness, doesn’t it?
Bubbles, Baths, and Bad Luck by manixzen (E, 5k)
A poisonous potion covering Professor Potter nearly head-to-toe would normally be a pretty big deal. It should be as bad as his day gets. But that’s before he’s informed that the cure involves a steamy, hot bath with an unrequited crush.
Then Comes a Mist and a Weeping Rain by Faith Wood (E, 21k)
It always rains for Draco Malfoy. Metaphorically. And literally. Ever since he had accidentally Conjured a cloud. A cloud that's ever so cross.
At the Crossroads There We’ll Meet by firethesound (E, 24k)
Potter keeps dying; Draco keeps saving him.
Rarely Pure and Never Simple by birdsofshore (E, 28k)
Harry never thought taking a job as Draco Malfoy's bodyguard was going to be easy. Add in a curse that makes Malfoy even more of an obnoxious git than usual, and Harry's got serious problems.
The Four Ds of Apparition (or: Destination, Determination, Deliberation, and Dicks) by @eidheann, @firethesound (E, 36k)
After transferring to the Apparition Department, Harry's life becomes one big dick joke. And all his friends are arseholes. So is Malfoy, but what else is new? AKA Harry Potter and the eighteen twenty dicks.
Draco Malfoy, It's Your Lucky Day by Faith Wood (E, 38k)
Even though he's unarmed, injured, lost in the Forbidden Forest, and facing a possible murder charge, Draco Malfoy gets lucky.
Skybound by @xanthippe74 (T, 61k)
No matter how much Harry Potter wanted to believe he’d left danger behind when the war ended, it found him again anyway. All he had to do was step out his own front door on a Tuesday morning. A Drarry re-imagining of Howl’s Moving Castle.
Angst:
Super Rich Kids by @thusspoketrish (E, 81k)
Draco Malfoy has become disillusioned by the glitz and glamour of the scandalous lives of the Post-Second Wizarding War Pureblood Elite. Enter: one existential crisis, one group of thieving cynical friends, and several terrible, terrible decisions.

I've blessedly found your IF, the merry crisis one! And I'm so– I don't know how to express it, but it feels very dear and so close to home I love it so much😭🙏
I'm from SEA too, and I legit laughed so hard when the suggested feminine name option have my real name on it, and the fact that my Chinese name have this matched theme with my extended family as well (girls named after flowers and the boys named after trees) is just so endearing!!
Di and MC's relationship is also how my brother and I act irl, and down to the parents bickering (mine fought over their hogwarts houses instead of football match lol) I'm gobbling all that with affection in my heart! And seriously, it feels like you take a glimpse out of my life, cus in high-school, I did date someone like Qiu before I went abroad for uni, I got a good amount of goosebumps and chills when I play his route😂
My ask is, do you actually experience all of this yourself too? Some of it? All of it? (I don't mean to be nosy, I'm just excited cus I relate so much! Feel free to ignore this question if it's too personal to answer!)
Sorry for the rambling, but I love your writing so much! I'd love to check your other story as well! Much love, and thank you for creating something so close and dear to my heart and home❤
Hahaha I love that your family has the matchy name thing as well! Mine did that too until it came to my mom naming me and she was like NOPE. IMMA BUCK THE TREND.
#rebel.
And to answer your question in a super unsatisfying way... Well, the seeds" of merry crisis are sometimes my own experiences or experiences of close friends or partners, (some are completely fictional), and I weave it / transform it into things that I think will make for a good story!
(Bwahaha that answered nothing, gotta keep some mysterious author vibes I guess! 😆😏)
So happy you're enjoying and resonating with the story, and of course I'd be hyped if you checked CT:OS out too! ❤️

Daisy Johnson/Jemma Simmons (Skimmons) Masterlist
Addicted To You (ao3) - DeceitfulHonesty E, 26k
Summary: A raid at the SHIELD lab where she was working, leaves Jemma in the hands of her greatest enemies. As she tries to stay alive, Jemma finds herself drawn to someone who destroys all her expectations of Hydra: a specialist who calls herself Skye.
and i can go anywhere i want (anywhere i want just not home) (ao3) - autismboard G, 5k
Summary: She defined herself by the things that she loved: she was a scientist, a wife, a best friend.
At that moment, she was sure of only one of those things. So the only conclusion she could draw was that there was no more Jemma. --------
Jemma post 5x14 attempting to make sense of the situation at hand (aka girlie is struggling)
and if you're still breathing (you're the lucky ones) (ao3) - plinys M, 6k
Summary: She’s seen Groundhog Day and every other story about being stuck in a time loop. Though normally the people in these loops are unwilling participants, unable to change anything significantly, but needlessly repeating the same cycle until they learn some sort of moral of the story.
The thing is Jemma already knows the moral of this story. At least, she thinks she does.
can you see me using everything to hold back? (ao3) - midnightstrawberries T, 6k
Summary: Sometimes, late at night, unable to sleep and sprawled under bed sheets, head hanging upside down off the left side of the bed, Skye likes to imagine her parents. What they were like, who they were, how they lived. She dreams until her head starts hurting too much and she has to sit back up.
Skye is sixteen years old and she has never lived in the same place for more than a year at a time. (Something tells her she never will. Something else tells her to believe otherwise.)
~
Skye and Jemma meet in high school instead of at SHIELD.
Follow Me, I Know A Shortcut (ao3) - nerdwegian G, 1k
Summary: Jemma is acting weird around Skye.
I found love where it wasn't supposed to be (right in front of me) (ao3) - EB_FanficFan_1458 mack/yo yo, jemma/daisy, kate/bobbi, clint/natasha T, 24k
Summary: “Is this what gay stargazing is? Stars and confessions?” Nat whispered. Bobbi laughed silently. “Yes. Now you’ve experienced that, you’re officially with us. Welcome to the family.”
For the first time in years, Daisy and Bobbi feel safe at their home with Phil Coulson and Melinda May. But what happens when Phil and Mel decide to adopt Natasha as well? The demons of their pasts come back to haunt them. Can they stay safe and happy, or will everything fall apart?
I'll Be The Rock Star If You'll Be The Scientist (ao3) - nerdwegian T, 10k
Summary: "Wait, wait, wait! Sir, are you telling me the dinosaur escaped our plane in your flying car?"
It's All About Biochemistry (ao3) - Selenay
Summary: Jemma pulled in a calming breath. "Just. I'm not really used to this kind of thing yet."
"What kind of thing?"
"Post emotional crisis kissing," Jemma said. "It's new to me."
Love Me at the Corner Cafe (ao3) - Heylittleyahtzee (HeyYahtzee) T, 36k
Summary: Skye likes to keep an eye on her regulars, so when Jemma Simmons comes in entirely flustered one morning Skye can’t help but reach out to her. It turns out that Jemma Simmons can’t help but return the favor. Unsurprisingly there is no going back from this
Slytherin to My Heart (ao3) - happypugfics E, 82k
Summary: Skimmons Hogwarts AU Skye and Jemma find themselves in their sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry dealing with the same old issues it has to offer: homework, tests, quidditch, house points, their relationship...and oh, the Triwizard Tournament.
The Hydra Disaster (ao3) - Rhino (RhinoMouse) M, 39k
Summary: Jemma's time undercover at Hydra gets far more interesting and Important when she gets pulled into project World Killer. She is not prepared. But SHIELD needs her to succeed. Which would be easier if her boss's boss's boss, Agent Daisy Johnson hadn't taken an interest in her. It would also make Agent Morse's life easier if the scientist she's supposed to protect would stop breaking every rule of spy craft. Every. Single. Rule.
The Way Our Horizons Meet (ao3) - plinys M, 50k
Summary: Four years ago Skye married Jemma in order to keep her from being deported, now when the day has come to end things she can't help herself from wondering how they got here and how she can get her to stay.
Until We Get There (ao3) - Pitkin E, 275k
Summary: “I’ve got a tail,” Daisy announced, loud enough to hear through the phone as she watched the silver truck appear around the fourth corner, having made a successful square with the truck following. She made a left at the next possible road, deciding she would head back toward the highway to get to a better populated area.
Lily gasped. “You do??” She asked. “CAN I SEE IT!?!” She screeched in excitement.
Under normal circumstances, this reaction would have been more than enough for Daisy to roar with laughter and come up with an excuse for why Lily wasn’t allowed to see her non-existent tail. Today she was quiet as she glanced behind her in the rearview again.
wandering (ao3) - cardiganweather E, 4k
Summary: Jemma Simmons has survived an alien virus, jumped out of a plane without a parachute, and worked with an Asgardian to solve a murder mystery. She can handle sharing a bed with a girl she likes in a too hot hotel room.
Right?
Want to Annoy Your Family This Thanksgiving? Call Skye! (ao3) - DeceitfulHonesty T, 4k
Summary: "I’m a 25 year old, unemployed hacker with no high school degree who lives in a van that’s older than me. If you’d like to have me as your strictly platonic date for Thanksgiving, but pretend to be in a serious, committed relationship with you to irritate your family, I’m game. I require no pay but the free meal I’ll get as a guest and the joy of spending an evening with people I can aggravate! Call Skye." Based on the Craigslist ad that people love to share this time of year.

The shapes a bright container can contain!
Tumblr media
III. “Who’s looking after you?” Draco asked.
He was sitting in a slat backed chair he’d dragged up beside her bed. It seemed mean that the few private rooms in the Hogwarts infirmary only held a twin bed and a side-table, far more like a prison cell than he felt was appropriate but perhaps reflective of the very little time anyone at Hogwarts had spent at Azkaban. Hermione was propped up with pillows, her hands laid flat on the white coverlet on her lap. Her hair had been washed but not tended especially well, wrestled back into an unruly, lumpy plait that spoke to unfamiliarity with either charms or potions. There was a cup of tea on the table, apparently untouched, as was the iced biscuit tucked at the base of the saucer.
“What do you mean—”
“I mean, who notices when you leave meals early? That you’re too pale, that you always answer when anyone asks, that you don’t count any danger to yourself too great? Who should’ve been the one to follow you, to stop you. To keep you from drowning?” Draco said, his voice a little too tightly controlled, too calmly even for her to not to be aware he somehow, for some reason, was nearly incandescent with rage. “It shouldn’t have been me. You’d never have thought I’d come running—I almost didn’t come, didn’t run, except that the children were too quiet—"
“They were scared,” she said.
“They bloody well should have been,” he said. “I was terrified—”
“I look after myself,” she said, answering the earlier question. She looked down at her hands but he didn’t think she saw them.
“You look after other people,” he countered. She looked up, startled. But not offended, not yet. Perhaps she wouldn’t be. “I understand, when we were children, everyone thought you were the brightest witch of our age. You knew better than everyone else, it was all right to rely on you but now—Potter doesn’t try? Neville?”
“Harry was brought up by people who treated him about as badly as your father treated House-elves. And then he lost Sirius and Molly basically commandeered him as an honorary Weasley with years of parenting to be made up for. She can be rather smothery, it’s not an approach he could really model himself after,” Hermione said. “He’s not very good at it. And he uses most of what he’s got to give on his own children, as he should.”
“Fine. I think you’re cutting him too much slack but I am willing to admit you know him better. But Neville? It’s not like him, not to notice, he’s always been so fond of you,” Draco said, trailing off.
“Exactly,” Hermione replied. “I can’t—it’s not fair to him, when he feels one way and I…”
“He’s in love with you and you only care about him as a friend, so you don’t let him get close,” Draco said.
“You’re as blunt as a bludger,” Hermione said.
“If you mean a Gryffindor, you might as well say it,” Draco shrugged. “You nearly died, I’m trying not to tax you too greatly.”
“You needn’t worry,” she said.
“You’re wrong. I know it’s an unfamiliar experience for you and that you’re likely to tell me I’m the one who’s wrong,” he said.
“Because you are,” she replied.
“No, I’m not. Because I’m the one who dragged you out of a loch in Scotland in November, because you couldn’t get yourself out, despite being one of the most powerful witches alive in England,” he said. “Someone else needs to worry about you. Though I prefer looking after, since worrying is largely ineffectual and won’t stop you from depleting your entire magical core, a real feat, I must add, given your previously mentioned magical strength, and getting yourself killed or at least maimed without the prospect of any recovery, if we go by your predilections. And it will surely be in a way that creates maximum guilt in your friends and associates. Neville will be beside himself and Potter may end up going through a midlife crisis and becoming the next Dark Lord.  He’ll grow a goatee and be generally intolerable.”
“You know what a midlife crisis is?” Hermione said. Her lips curved and he realized it was the first time he’d seen her smile in months. A real smile, where the expression in her eyes matched.
“Yes, I don’t live under a rock. Potter would be a little young by Wizard standards, but I think like you, he still sees himself as a Muggle first,” Draco replied.
“Not wrong,” she said.
“Oh, are we playing a game now?” Draco said. “I’ll win. You’ve always been pants at chess and you can’t stand Quidditch.”
“Draco, what do you want?” she said. She settled back against the pillows and he could feel her exhaustion. The Hogwarts linens were too thin. She ought to be covered in a fluffy duvet, supported by a featherbed. There should be a pair of sheepskin slipper warming on a fender.
“I want you to be properly looked after. I’ve—we’ve both lost too many people in our lives. I don’t want you to be someone else who’s lost,” he said. “I spoke to Abbott and the Headmistress, they allowed me to see whether your quarters were adequate for your recovery and the suite is hardly better kitted out than this room, might as well belong to a hermit—”
“You had no right,” she said.
“You’re right. I didn’t. But I did ask permission from your physician and your superior. When Neville heard, he didn’t scold me,” Draco said. “All the plants he gave you are dead, by the way. Even the metalmalarky cactus”
“You still haven’t said what you want. Not directly,” she replied.
“I want to look after you. Myself. I have a property nearby. You know I don’t live in the dungeons like Snape did,” Draco said. The man had been a masochist or Dumbledore had had him under house arrest. There was no way Draco would ever have agreed to live adjacent to his classroom and he certainly wasn’t going to allow the Hogwarts dungeon to be his son’s home. He and Astoria had bought the small estate shortly after Scorpius was born, an act of faith that the baby would not be a Squib and a commitment to being present in their child’s life as neither of their own parents had been.
“You want me to live in your house?”
“It’s a not insignificant property. There’s a carriage house, entirely separate. But it’s got all the mod cons and a library, a conservatory,” he said.
“A carriage house with a conservatory. Only you, Malfoy. Will you feed me hothouse grapes from your lily-white hand?” she said.
“I’ll stock the library with Regency romances, as you seem to have a taste for them,” he said, slipping the cufflinks out of his cuffs and rolling them back so she could see the calluses on his palms, the spatter of old burns he’d never bothered to fully heal. “Not lily-white. Say yes, Hermione. Let me help—”
“You’ll badger me endlessly if I refuse, won’t you?” she said. She could have sighed and didn’t. He let himself hope.
“I’ll have to. I don’t fancy a repeat of today’s dip in the loch. The Squid is whatever squid is for handsy,” he said. She raised an eyebrow and he decided to pivot. “It was too close. Please. Please allow it.”
“I suppose since you’ve asked so nicely, I’d be an utter wretch to refuse,” she said.
“Yes, I think that would be the consensus. Here and of course, elsewhere. Abroad. Across the pond,” Draco said, relief making him a bit giddy. “Shall I go on?”
“I think I’d rather nap for a little while. Then Hannah can tell us whether I’m allowed to Side-along or whether we’ll have to take Muggle transport.”
“That’s fine. I’ll get everything sorted. Let the looking after commence,” he replied, lowering his voice as Hermione’s eyes grew dozy.
