Racially Diverse Fantasy Idea
Fantasy Dwarves inspired by the native mountain-dwelling cultures of the Andez, Rocky Mountains and other highlands.
Perhaps these dwarves breed large mountain goats and alpacas as shepherds, and carve their homes right into the sides of mountains or build them underneath overhanging cliffs. They may farm potatoes and roots to survive, foraging and planting are common occupations, but hard work in the treacherous and rocky terrain. They have intricate tattoos in wondrous designs, living in places of such high altitude that other Races may struggle to breath when visiting.
Dwarves with darker skin, braided black hair and warm, colorful clothes of red and purple, made from dyed wool and furs. Still acting as skilled craftsmen, warriors and miners, and still maintaining their short, bearded appearance, but with a different cultural influence than most other dwarves seen in popular fantasy. These Dwarves may find it easier to travel on rocky and uneasy terrain, having done so their entire lives, and are even stronger than most other Dwarves, used to hard physical labor of tunneling caves and removing rocks from roads.
Perhaps Dwarven Necromancers are common in these regions, collecting the bodies of those who have died in the cold mountains, communing with their spirits and putting the dead to better use in their servitude. Druids who focus on alpine terrain and environments, collecting gemstones and salts from the mountains and serving as traveling merchants and adventurers. Their religion may be focused on the Sun or the Seasons, with a vast pantheon of warrior deities and those who bless foragers and collectors of grain.
