Skater Boy
“Do you have a favorite era in history?” Nile asked.
“1980,” Joe replied at once.
“That’s specific.”
“The walkman had just been invented, the gay community was yet widely unaware of HIV.  We were taking the summer off, and all Nicky wanted to do was roller skate up and down the miles of beachside boardwalk, listening to music.”
“Did you also like skating?”
“A little, but not so much.”
“Sounds like a boring summer for you then.”
“No, Nile, you don’t understand…”  Joe’s fist clenched around air, grasping for the words to describe what made 1980 so magical.  “The shorts.  His thighs.”
“Oh my god.”  Nile turned away, torn completely in half by amusement and exasperation.  She expected to hear about the renaissance when she first asked this question.
“He’d skate right inside the house when he came back, always bringing me ice cream or french fries or something.  He’d take his headphones off but wouldn’t stop the tape, so I could hear his music when he leaned in to kiss me.  He’d be so sweaty and so tall in his skates…”
Again Joe paused, overwhelmed by memory.  “His ass.  Nile, I cannot describe it for you.  English cannot do it.  When you learn a few more languages, I’ll be able to tell you.  The tan lines alone are worth a book.  I think we had more sex that summer than the entire 1340s.”
“Wasn’t that the black plague?”
“It was not a sexy decade,” Joe admitted.
“Can you tell me some cool history stuff that doesn’t involve Nicky’s ass?”
“Every moment I have walked as an immortal on this Earth has involved Nicky’s beautiful ass,” was the defiant reply.

I think the comment about only the boring gays living through the aids epidemic really got me angry because well it's acephobic for one thing and it does dismiss the trauma of those who lived through it.
But also like the people who lived were just... i don't want to say luck but i do want to say there was most likely no rhyme or reason for it. Which is why it probably hurts a lot of people, and i don't know how after living through covid 19 you could say it is anything but!
Sure there were some people who were foolish during covid, but that's not everyone and it's just victim blaming.
It's a tragedy.

To HIV+ AlloAros:
A lot of alloaros on here have talked a lot about how they face a lot of stigma for wanting to be sexually active while lacking romantic feelings, and how people often stereotype them as uncaring, promiscuous, careless, or irresponsible. I was thinking about this, and it reminded me of some of the sentiments that I’ve heard directed towards people who are HIV+. As such, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge HIV+ alloaros.
To all those allosexual aromantics out there living with HIV, just wanted to say that you are wonderful. You don’t deserve to be stereotyped as reckless or careless or promiscuous or irresponsible, whether you contracted HIV from your first and only sexual partner, from your 30th sexual partner, from IV drug use, or by any other means. You are not wrong or bad or dirty if you have had and enjoyed sex outside of a romantic relationship, even if you are someone who contracted HIV through casual sex. You aren’t “perpetuating stereotypes” (either of alloaro people or HIV+ people) by existing as an HIV+ alloaro. Your sexual feelings are beautiful and natural, and you should never feel ashamed of yourself for having them. You add rich and meaningful perspectives and experiences to the LGBTQ+ community, and we are lucky to have you as part of this community.
I hope that ART works well for you and enables you to live a long, happy life, and enjoy a healthy and active sex life (should you so choose). If you choose to have a zucchini, foveo, FWB, spouse, romantic partner, soft romo partner, or any other sort of partner (or partners!) I hope that they are accepting of your HIV status and that they are able to take PrEP (if needed) with minimal side effects. If sexual intimacy is something that you want, I hope that you and your partner(s) have sex that makes you feel beautiful and sexy and desirable and happy.
I hope that you are able to have children if you so choose, and that your friends and family are accepting of your HIV status.
If you have any symptoms, I hope that they are manageable and that you’re able to continue enjoying the things that make you happy. If you’re struggling with medical trauma due to your HIV treatment experiences, I hope someday you’re able to feel safe seeking medical help again. If you struggle with addiction and contracted HIV due to drug use, then I hope addiction and/or mental health recovery go well for you, should you choose to seek it out.
I hope you’re having a wonderful day, and I hope you have a wonderful life.
(For anyone who has read this far, I’ve added a link below to a list of HIV/AIDS research and relief organizations. Consider donating to one of them if you can!)

i could say a lot about how dc got exponentially worse with the oversexualization of their female (and especially teenaged) characters in the new52 but i think the pics of mia dearden pre-reboot and post-reboot speak for themselves

Double Isekai, Ch. 3
Did I intend to go on a rant about AIDS/HIV in its historical context vis a vis the queer community? No, no I did not.
Did it turn out fantastic anyway? Yes, yes it did.
Summary:
It's time to tell the tale to the most important people in Ranma's life, and a lot of old scars are going to be re-opened in the process.
EDIT: FUCK! I forgot to hit "schedule" instead of "Post"
Preview below the fold:
"Did she say..." Kasumi hesitated, "That something was wrong with Ranma?"
Nabiki stood against the inside of the fence, tapping her foot and keeping her arms crossed. She didn't like mysteries and the more time that passed after Kasumi's conversation with this woman yesterday, the more the mysteries compiled.
"I...think there is something wrong with him," said Akane, her hands flopping about like she sometimes did when she was stressed, "I saw him, he was in girl form and curled up at the kotatsu like he was sick or something."
Nabiki raised her eyebrow, "Well, whatever it is this Nodoka woman seems pretty sure she can handle it quickly or she would have sent us home."
Kasumi nodded, "Yes, I got the impression on the phone that she cared deeply for Ranma."
"Well, she's wealthy enough to buy new shoes for someone she just met, I saw them in the genkan when she was hurrying us back out."
"Why do you think she cares so much for Ranma, anyway?" asked Akane.
"I'd say they're related," answered Nabiki, "The woman's face and body structure is a dead-ringer for Ranma's girl-type body, and that's not even mentioning the hair color. Sure, her's is darker than Ranma's, but it's still a pretty identifiable red."
"That's quite the coincidence for someone who was mother's friend to happen to be related to Ranma," said Kasumi.
The door opened and their hostess stepped out again, "It makes more sense when you remember that your father and Ranma's have been friends for decades." said the woman, having apparently overheard them through the door. The three girls started, various levels of surprise etched on their faces as they took in Nodoka for the second time. She was quite the definition of a modern woman, wearing what to Nabiki's discerning eye to be men's trousers and a fetching blouse that had a touch of 'power' tailoring. "Ranma's been able to calm down a bit, you're very important and the anxiety for this meeting has been a bit...high." The three girls looked to each other in confusion as Nodoka continued, "As we explain what's happened, you will have questions and concerns, and a great deal of them, I'm sure. Please allow us to fully explain and we will answer all the questions you have as best we can. Now please, come in." She stepped aside and bowed, welcoming them into her home.
They entered, shedding their shoes and taking in the home. It was smaller than theirs, probably half the square footage overall, for all it was in a better neighborhood. The furnishings were somewhat plain and antiquated compared to the woman's outfit, and notable for its absence was a television. Nabiki did notice a large quantity of books stacked and shelved artlessly about the living room. There was a set of stairs leading to the second floor, likely where the bedrooms were, and a hallway stretching away from the living room, the telltale signs of a furo and laundry room being the only doors in that direction. Quickly exiting the genkan into the living room, the dining area was fully visible, with Ranma sitting primly and, perhaps most surprisingly, like a woman at the kotatsu. Nabiki was glad that all three of them paused in shock at the sight of Ranma, who was wearing clothes that he normally wouldn't be caught dead in, as she would have stood out if she was the only one who reacted. Most disturbing for Nabiki was he was smiling brightly and companionably at all three of them. She'd become quite used to Ranma barely tolerating her presence if not outright stating he'd rather be elsewhere if she were in the room.
"Please, girls, have a seat. I'll restart the heat on the kettle, I'm afraid we weren't quite sure when you'd be here and jumped the gun a little on that."
"Oh, I do apologize," said Kasumi, "I didn't remember a time being mentioned..."
"No, Kasumi-chan, that's just as much our fault, I'm afraid." said Nodoka as she went into her kitchen. Nabiki took the invitation and settled herself down across from Ranma, trying to puzzle out the latest development and very aware she lacked all the information, "In everything that happened yesterday setting a specific time slipped my mind." She did some similar motions in the kitchen that Nabiki recognized from her sister's usual bustling about in their own kitchen, some things were simply universal, it seemed. She turned to face them again, "You're here now, though, and that's what matters."
While she'd been talking, Akane sat on Nabiki's left and Kasumi on the right. Nodoka settled herself between Ranma and Kasumi, leaving a bit of a gap between Ranma and Akane, one which the pair seemed to notice and were eyeing it nervously. "To begin with," started Nodoka, "A proper introduction is in order, I think. I know who you all are, or at least of you well enough. Kasumi, of course, I spoke to you on the phone," she nodded at the eldest Tendo, "Nabiki, your reputation does precede you, but don't worry, I won't hold it against you," said the woman as she winked playfully, "And, of course, Akane." She sighed, "And I'm Nodoka Saotome, Ranma's mother."
Had any of them been holding anything, they would have dropped it. "What?!" gasped Akane.
"Oh, but we had thought...I mean..." began Kasumi.
"That I was dead? Yes, that seems to be the going theory. We bumped into a pair of your friends, Akane, earlier today at the mall. They were just as surprised that I was not, in fact, deceased."
Akane seemed to recover enough to gesture to Ranma, "So what's with the get-up?! You know he's a boy, right?"
Nodoka sighed, "Yes, Akane, I'm aware of Ranma's gender at birth. For reasons I will come to later, I will ask that you address Ranma and any discussion around her in the feminine form. For now, understand that I'm fully aware that, according to everything you know and Ranma's birth record, the person sitting before you is male."
"So, what," asked Nabiki, hoping to get to the heart of things, "Are you mad that Ranma let everyone think you were dead so you're making him..."
"Her," said Nodoka.
"Fine," snapped Nabiki in the same tone, "Are you making her act like a girl until some punishment is complete?"
Ranma's mother sighed, "I can understand, given the man that I married, why you would think as much. But no, were it only that complicated this would be much, much easier."

So the first born, Mackenzie the minx, moved out with her brother Brodie to a penthouse in San Myshuno. She became a sex worker and her clients would come and go (pun intended) on a regular basis. She had been dating Don Bailey since high school, he’s Thorne and Octavia’s son. Mackenzie has the loyal trait so she would often have a tense moodlet every time she serviced a client, she didn’t like being unfaithful to Don. They got engaged, but one client in particular caught her eye, Ronen Feng (of Victor and Lily) who was a handsome devil indeed! Don reluctantly agreed to embark on a polyamorous relationship with Kenzie and Ronen, this went on for a long time right into their move to Newcrest where Kenzie left Brodie the penthouse and entertained her punters in an appropriately decked out dungeon style abode. Two more men moved in, Camden Kealoha and Axel Jang, and Kenzie was very happy with her arrangement, however Don was not. Soon she was pregnant, who was the father? It could have been any one of them, but it turned out to be Don and baby Blair was born. Shortly after that, Kenzie’s lust for Ronen escalated, but she also liked Camden and Axel (who was not into the five in a bed thing either), but it was Ronen who she decided to have her second child with. She planned to have one to each of her men but things didn’t quite go to plan. She and Ronen welcomed baby Nia and that was when Don decided to get off the orgy bus. He moved out and ended his engagement with Kenzie. She went on to have another baby with Axel, Camden didn’t want kids, and fell deeply in love with him. They had Garrison followed by Stevie (a girl) and Peter, they also moved into the old Spencer-Kim-Lewis house in Willow Creek and got married. Kenzie is now a one man woman and she is madly in love with her husband. All five of her kids live with them and she still has her clients, but all in all she is at peace with herself.
Chaotic Fact: Kenzie and her partners were constantly exchanging WTDs it was awful, so that kind of helped to make the decision for her to commit to one man only. In fact Ronen Feng now has HIV and is having a pretty hard time with his meds, so sad!

Maybe an HIV plot?
That wouldn’t be ideal imo I can see where you’re getting that from with the needle.
I do hope it’s not that but if it is something like that then let’s hope they use the storyline to educate instead of create the only drama for gay men they can think of.
But if they won’t, I’ll give you some Auntie Cee advice anyway that you didn’t ask for but is important:
Luckily for us all, HIV is not the death sentence it once was. Life expectancy for HIV+ people is now almost identical to those who are negative. There’s always ways to protect yourself like using PrEP as well as contraceptives such as condoms and dental dams
Getting yourself regularly tested at the sexual health clinic as well.
There’s even talks of a cure in the next ten years after successful trials
Why am I telling you this when you never asked? Well, because it’s important to know that not all queer love stories have to be a tragedy and even if they do go down the HIV+ route, the world is a very different place than it was 40/50 years ago.
There’s hope 🏳️‍🌈

Rather than focus on how “terrible Snatch Game was this week” c’mon it’s not always good seriously, some can show their comedy talents and others may learn within the challenge, I think I’d like to hear some conversations about the discussion about queer history including the actions of that the holocaust and HIV/AIDS crisis and how the government was acting then, that was had afterwards. I think it’s important, some people don’t know anything about these things and it was informative and an important topic and parts of our history that many don’t really know anything about, even a lot of us because we aren’t taught about these things anywhere but from eachother pretty much.

I have a question: if a vampire drinks the blood of a human with some sickness that can be transmitted via blood, for example HIV, the vampire will get sick?
If it is like it, which I think, will vampires have some type of organization to keep their community free from sicknesses for contaminated blood? Would vampires be supporting the gay community in the 70's and 80's when the HIV was a really big problem in the community? What types of regulations could vampires have to make sure that thay are eating from good sources of healthy blood so they don't get sick? I'd like to imagine a rich vampire supporting HIV prevention campaigns.
