“What I always loved about vintage clothes is that you let the woman who wore it before you live on in some way.” ...Liz Goldwyn Same goes for me and vintage/antique jewelry! Who owned this? What was she like? Obviously I have something in common with her since I also like this piece. So many questions.... if it could only talk! . . . #vintagejewelry #historyofjewelry #rubies #diamonds #shopcavallofinejewelry (at Cavallo Fine Jewelry) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCtIyN7h_TI/?igshid=2i3qst7liy7z

In Fort Bragg for the next leg of the trip. We stopped in the charming Guest house museum, where there was lots about Ft Bragg’s lumber history as well as a room dedicated to Pomo Indian artifacts. Making this necklace by hand would have been extremely labor intensive, there is something so magnetic about seeing a treasure trove of human hours represented in a small object. Although this necklace is in a museum, the Pomo community is alive and well and despite the history of white peoples efforts to wipe out their culture. #pomoindians #pomo #historyofjewelry #beadmaking #fortbragg (at Guest House Museum)

Both a sculptor and a historian at heart, I thrill to find these kinds of objects whose purpose, meaning and beauty are fascinating and enigmatic...as with this silver, hollow and three-dimensional claw pin, I am drawn to discover more about it as an object and an ornament and to learn how something like this would be worn in another time and place—often in stark comparison to what it means worn now in this time and place. #theagrantjewelry #theagrantestate #theagrantshop #antiquejewelry #vintagejewelry #jewelryhistory #historyofjewelry #jewelryhistorian #silver #sterlingsilver #silverworn #claw #foot #chickenfoot #grouse #pheasant #hen #rooster #antiquestyle #pin #brooch #dailyjewels #jewelrystore #jewelrygram #jewelryoftheday #jeweler #givingnewlifetooldthings #jewelersoftheold Find this and others like it at our #TheaGrantShop in DUMBO or at our weekend outposts at the #BKFlea #BrooklynFlea in #IndustryCity through the end of March! A L C H E M Y ••• art of transformation // … practicing alchemy was actually illegal in many countries during the Middle Ages & 16/17th centuries b/c rulers were afraid of corrupting the gold supply ….experimentation had to be done secretly and all records were written in code and under pseudonyms 🤫 👑 For eg. “let the red dragon devour the white eagle” could mean: - nitric acid + ammonium chloride to dissolve gold 🤷🏻‍♀️ #meltingmetal #jewelryinspiration #historyofjewelry #jewelryinspiration #alchemyart https://instagr.am/p/CWn-vxdpI78/

Masonic gold signet ring...old and good! The Free Masons are a worldwide organization which only accepts male members and which can be traced as far back as the 14th century BC when they first emerged as stonemasons' guilds. Since then they have been known as both a secret society, enshrouded in mystery and with possible political under stone, as well as a social fraternity. Each organization is overseen by a free-standing Grand Lodge, which oversees a particular geographical area, the largest of which resides in London and boasts a quarter million members (via Wikipedia). The Masonic symbol, a pair of compasses crossed with the right-angled square, is the ubiquitous symbol of the Free Masons, and it appears both with and without a G in its center. There is some disagreement about what the G stands for, some say 'God', and some say a less denominational 'Grand Architect', a befitting leader for stone cutters... #theagrantjewelry #theagrantestate #masonic #freemasons #compass #signet #crest #signetring #unisex #mensring #mensjewelry #mensstyle #menstyle #dapper #handcarved #masonic #freemason #freemasonry #fraternal #historyofjewelry #historylesson #nowyouknow DM us or find this item in our #TheaGrantShop or at the #TheaGrantOutpost for the last DUMBO #brooklynflea of the season this coming Sunday (at DUMBO, Brooklyn)
