summary: the night before your wedding, you - a humble gardener who has won the heart of the crown prince - feel some doubts. fortunately, your husband-to-be is there for you.

author's notes: this is a spin-off to my previous multichapter fic, flowers of every color (specifically it is an epilogue to the good ending). but this can also be read on its own as a standalone oneshot!

on the night before your wedding, the greenhouse is quiet. there’s no one else here but you, and you’re grateful for the solitude; the gardening staff hired to replace you have all gone to bed, and you can revel in your old life one more time. your fingers brush the petals of the newly bloomed white peonies on the greenhouse table and you smile. they’ve grown beautifully, their snow-white petals bursting out like fireworks, and they’ve been cut and arranged in vases and bouquets just in time to be put into position tomorrow. regret stings at you that you barely tended to them personally.

you’ve been told time and time again that you don’t need to do gardening work anymore now that you’re about to become the prince’s spouse and consort 一 and you’ve been too busy with new duties to do so anyway. still, you miss that old life, and the small garden plot assigned for “royal leisure” isn’t enough.

without even realizing it, you start checking each flower for signs of infestation or infection. you inspect the leaves, the petals, and the cut ends of the stems, searching for holes left by bug bites or parts that have gone mushy and brown. you examine the water inside their vases, making sure they’re clear and free of any debris. and when each cut flower is satisfactorily healthy to you, you move on to the next one; you walk slowly down the long table, examining vase after vase, caring for them as if they were your own. (they’re the flowers for your wedding; in a sense, they are your own.)

the task keeps you busy enough that the tumultous energy swirling in your stomach slows down just a bit. the solitude comforts you; it’s just you and the flowers, away from the prying eyes of the castle, of the royal council, of all the guests who will come flooding in tomorrow...

your inspection is interrupted by a creak in the door. as it opens, you jump back and start a response 一 i just want to look at them before i go, that’s all 一 until the dim greenhouse light illuminates the face of your groom.

your shoulders droop and relief washes over you.

“i thought i’d find you here.” yeonjun makes his way to you and wraps his arms around your waist from behind. he pulls you close and you relax in his hold, though your tumultous feelings haven’t been shaken off completely. he too can feel the hurried rhythm of your pulse.

“why is my darling still awake?” he whines, kissing the crown of your head. “you need to be well-rested for tomorrow...”

“i know, love.” you sigh and turn to face him. “i just needed to get my nerves out.”

“you always come here when you’re nervous. tell me, darling... you can tell me what’s on your mind.”

“i’ve already told you a hundred times, you don’t want to hear it.”

“but i do.” he pushes aside a stray lock of hair from your face and cups your cheek. even now the gesture makes your heart flutter. “i don’t care if you’ve told me a hundred times. if you’re worried, i want you to tell me.”

you’re quiet for a few moments. you turn away from yeonjun and glance at the peonies; even after admitting it to him so many times before, it never feels any less shameful.

“it’s tomorrow... all the dukes and counts and visiting royal families from other kingdoms... they’ll see me, and they...”

you trail off. yeonjun pulls you into a tight embrace, one hand coming up to run through your hair. he knows about this worry all too well after you’ve told him countless times throughout your engagement. he’s heard the gossip making its way through his circles of royalty and nobility. he’s even held several returned invitations from guests who have declined to come or even send a gift.

he’s a prince marrying a commoner 一 his family’s own gardener 一 and breaking tradition. many noble and royal families took the engagement as a personal slight that their own eligible offspring had been overlooked in favor of a common worker. others heard that the prince had turned down a powerful queen’s daughter for a love match and took the queen’s side, hoping to prove their allegiance. still others simply thought that he was being undignified.

but those whispers of disdain have little meaning for yeonjun. he holds you for as long you let him, slotting your face into the crook of his neck until your nerves have settled down.

“i know what you’re going to say,” you whisper into his neck. “you don’t care about any of that, they don’t see me the way you do...”

he chuckles and you can feel his breaths tickling your ear. “then you know that i mean all of it, right?”

“i know. but i still worry, i shouldn’t worry一”

“shhh.” he leaves another kiss on the crown of your head. “if you can’t stop worrying about these things, then at least let me carry the burden with you.”

“you don’t have to...”

“i want to.”

you nod and close your eyes, burying yourself in him; his hold on your waist grows firmer. you are reminded of how lucky you are to know yeonjun, to be in love with him, to be spending the rest of your life with him. the princely crown is a weight he carries with dignity, and the kingly crown he will wear one day is even heavier, yet he is more than willing to carry your own burdens alongside his. he proves it to you right here: instead of going to bed early like he should, he holds you close right before his own wedding — your own wedding — because you matter to him more than any duty.

what he knows is that he can carry his burdens only because you are by his side.

for a few moments you let him hold you, feeling your own heartbeat steady as it syncs with his. the tumult swirling within you doesn’t go away completely, but it does slow down enough that your mind feels clear again.

you give him a quick kiss on his neck right before you pull away. “thank you, jjunie.”

he smiles you see his ears turn red. even after all this time, you still have that effect on him.

yeonjun glances over at the white peonies lined up on the table, waiting to be positioned in the early hours of the morning. he purses his lips and tuts. “the ones you grow are prettier.”

“don’t say that! the new gardeners did a perfectly fine job. i looked at them and they’re all healthy.” your cheeks betray you anyway as they grow warm at his compliment.

“healthy, sure. but prettier? your flowers are almost as beautiful as you.”

now your face is a mess of red. “stop that! you’re making me一 i一”

“you know it’s true, darling.”

you shake your head but slip your hands into his. he gives you a teasing smile, but the redness in his ears hasn’t gone away.

“then will you convince the council to let me do more gardening once we’re married? or at least give me a real garden instead of that tiny plot?”

“oh, i’m already talking them into it.” he steps closer and brushes his nose against yours. “and if they don’t let you have it, then i’ll dig up one myself.”

Part 3 of my Johnshi headcanons !!!

In my previous headcanon, i said Kenshi loves nature and hiking so Johnny often takes them on vacations around the world for Kenshi to enjoy and he even bought a private jet so that Sento doesn't have to go throught TSAs

Johnny has many big celebrity friends and it specially amazes Raiden and Kung Lao like what do you mean you know Lady Gaga? Fyi, We had a game night at her place last month

Johnny learns japanese. While he's not entirely fluent, his accent is immaculate. Locals always get shocked to see a very handsome white guy speaking their language like he's born to do that

^ also Johnny does the most of talking to strangers in Japan bc people get scared when Kenshi approaches them

They both try to go incognito on the streets but Johnny gets always stopped by people, not bc he's recognized, but people are just mesmerized by him

^ one time, a salesman tried to hire him at those male maid cafes and Johnny called Kenshi Ojousama (princess) for whole day to tease him

Johnny and Kenshi at Hanabi festival! Wearing yukatas! Playing matsuri games! And watching fireworks! Kenshi even wins prizes for Johnny in the festival games bc that's what couple do, and Kenshi has never done it for anyone before

Kenshi has a sister, Akane! She operates as the head of their clan and also a skilled swordswoman.

^ Johnny and Akane are menace combined. Kenshi cannot have a minute of peace when they visit his home

While Kenshi's family is always pleasant. Johnny's is not so much. Johnny mom is a shrewd looking woman, and Kenshi was nervous to meet her first bc of her being a cop and him being an ex gangster. But they came to like each other later. Johnny's dad is distant and obviously judgemental of both of them, but he's apprehensive of Kenshi's past enough to hold his tongue for unwanted comments. On the flip side, Johnny's brother? Not so much. He can hope to god that he won't run into the wrong side of Sento, accidentally

They have a small private wedding that represents both of their culture. Liu Kang is their wedding officiant bc he's literally their creator n everything but Johnny and Kenshi thought it would be funny since Liu Kang has put so much effort in them that he's essentially their wingman

Obviously, Kung Lao is Johnny’s bestman and Raiden is Kenshi's

They had to beg Baraka for at least 5 months to come to their wedding, and he finally concedes when Kenshi tells him how much of a good friend and companion he was during their mission to Outworld and they can't imagine their special day without him

They both walk down the aisle, holding hands, and Smoke cried real tears at that

Johnny's manager worked overtime to make sure there will be no paparazzi, and the only official pictures to public are posted on Johnny's instagram. Those are the first ever pics of Kenshi's face valiantly shown, and he's smiling at Johnny with so much love

Johnny's vow includes: "You saved my life. It's yours to keep now."

Also really quickly, I wanted to mention that usually while the women are at the Henna Night, the men have their own gathering. Sahraa Al Zalame (closest I can translate is "staying up at night/gathering, men") takes place at the grooms home/village, and usually set up outdoors, there's a music singer/group or DJ, sometimes a dancing group is hired, there's sweets and drinks and lots of men just having a great time dancing/socializing. One memory I have is when I spent time on a nearby roof with my girl cousins watching as little boys lit up small fireworks, old men smoked and played cards, hookahs, coffee, sweets, fathers hold their babies & small boys, the young men dancing. The Groom and his friends/family lifting him up in the air. I love seeing how our men are celebrated and made to feel part of the wedding celebration in their own way, and of course the Shaving of the Groom. Days before the Wedding the Groom will stop shaving so he looks unkempt, then on that night they have a barber, or friend/family, who shaves the Groom's beard (sometimes old fashioned razor with the long blade are used sometimes modern ones) as he sits in a chair while others are around him in circle, the singer sings "it's time to shave the groom, he must be (Am Nouweer) lit up/glowing for his wedding, shave the groom, he is the most handsome of men" and other lyrics that often vary from family/region. I find it a very charming tradition that shows how just as the bride is going through her own transition from girl to womanhood, so is the groom transitioning from boy to manhood. Also when the groom's family douses him in shaving cream at the end sometimes its really funny. lol. But yeah Henna Night is exclusively for women, but the Sharaa is for men but sometimes women from the groom's side are in attendance too. It just depends on the family tbh. If the Bride and Groom are from the same village/town then some nights we would be at the Bride's for the Henna then walk over to Groom's house to watch the Sahraa of the men. I miss those summer nights because the feeling of celebration and community was so strong and beautiful. Anyways this is long, but I love our wedding traditions.

Honeymoon Headcanons

notes: this is part of our #marry a harbinger event! if you fulfill the requirements we'd be happy if you participate! have these headcanons about going on a nice honeymoon vacation with columbina and pantalone

warnings: columbina is unhinged. not towards you but she is most definitely unhinged.

Pantalone:

He is so happy to be married to you

He will spoil you so much. He'll let you pick the destination for your honeymoon and then he'll buy a mansion specifically for the occasion. Everything for you.

He doesn't rent it, he buys it. Along with a whole patch of empty beach. So on the anniversaries of your wedding, the two of you can come back to your honeymoon estate and spend some time there.

He even hires staff and butlers specifically for your honeymoon. They'll have a bunch of fancy lights and candles and rose petals prepared for when you arrive.

You're tired after the long trip so Pantalone picks you up and carries you bridal style through the door.

"What would you like to eat, my love?", he puts you down on the luxurious, comfortable sofa and kisses your forehead.

Doesn't matter if anything you want doesn't even exist in the country you're currently in, Pantalone will have it shipped to you as soon as possible.

He had the staff prepare a warm bath for the two of you with all sorts of expensive products. He holds you close to him for the whole evening and gives you so many loving kisses.

"I love you so much... I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you", he whispers and nuzzles your neck when he falls asleep in your arms that night. Your bedroom has the softest bed you have ever been in and the staff has put multiple pillows and blankets in it so when you fall asleep, all you feel around you is either soft bedsheets or Pantalone's hugs. His hair smells so nice after the bath and he looks so peaceful, sleeping in your arms with a smile on his face.

He wakes up before you and has the staff prepare breakfast for you. He knows all your favorite foods and he will spoil you. The breakfast is always bigger than necessary for two people so sometimes you scold him about throwing away this much food.

He likes to take strolls at the beach with you. Dressed in swimming trousers and a loose, short-sleeved shirt that is nevertheless unnecessarily expensive (think of like,,,, a million dollar hawaii shirt), he walks through the sand with you at sunset

Not really the swimming type. Will do it if you insist though. But complains all the time about how cold the water is.

He'd offer to hire professional sandcastle artists to build whatever you want for you but is just as happy if you refuse and want to build one yourself. He doesn't help you though, he doesn't want to stick his fingers into the dirt.

Takes you on a romantic boat trip one night. He'll admire your face from the side as you stare out onto the ocean.

Chuckles when you point at the dolphins swimming by. "I could buy us a dolphin to take home", he offers. "No. Like,,, I don't even... just don't", you refuse and ruffle his hair.

He has hired a band for live music. They can do everything from ballroom dance music to tavern songs to romantic ballads to musical numbers.

Would ask you for a dance and just ends up kissing you in the middle of it, paying no mind to the music anymore. He hugs you tightly and buries his face in your neck, whispering about how much you mean to him.

Goes inside the ship and comes back a couple of minutes later with a bouquet of red roses to give to you.

He wraps his arms around you after you have put the bouquet aside and gives you a gentle kiss.

"You know....in a way I understand the electro archon. Eternity sounds wonderful as long as I get to spend it with you", he leans his head against yours as the fireworks or lanterns he ordered for you go off in the distance.

Columbina:

That vacation will not be as peaceful and idyllic as Pantalone's but that is something you signed up for when you married this woman.

First off, you're gonna be the one planning that honeymoon getaway because the sheer action of deciding on a place and booking it would make Columbina lose her shit and would probably end with 5 dead palace guards and arson

She gives you a thankful kiss and a tight, loving hug when you tell her you'll take care of it.

She wears her wedding dress outside of the wedding. She's like "why did I annoy Regrator so much to buy me this dress if I'm only gonna wear it once?" and also loves how pretty the dress is and how it reminds her of your special day so sometimes she'll just show up in places wearing her wedding gown. Including your workplace. Thankfully if you're allied with the Fatui and married to Columbina you likely work in or close to the palace and everyone there is used to Columbinas antics.

So yeah one day she shows up in your office in her wedding dress and she made you a little chestnut man out of sticks and chestnuts and drew a face on it and she puts it down on your desk and is like "I made a friend for you" but there is always this definitely unhinged vibe about her that feels like she's one minute from agitated singing and crying if you don't like her gift.

She also brought you a whole pie that she baked herself (with Arlecchinos help as disaster control) and she puts kisses all over your face and tells you she loves you so much.

These are the moments where she inquires about your progress in organizing the vacation. You decided to postpone it a little because the Tsaritsa had some tasks for the two of you.

You had talked to her about your ideas for the honeymoon and she is super excited for it so if you tell her the one you decided on wouldn't work because it was sold out or something she'd cry into your arms and you'd pat her head and tell her you'll find something new for sure and that you'll have a wonderful time as long as you're together.

Most of the honeymoon will consist of the two of you being unapologetically tourists and exploring the whole place you're at, taking photos wherever and however you please.

If you're at a beach Columbina tells you she has a surprise for you and leads you to a more secluded part of the beach where she buried another tourist in the sand with only the head sticking out and she's like "I made a new friend" and the man is like "please can I leave I don't know who you are...."

You get her some nice colorful cocktails and she loves these so much.

Would definitely love to swim with you and clings to you in the water, wrapping her arms around your waist and snuggling you.

Would sleep in your arms on the sun lounger and occasionally trail kisses down your neck

She loves sharing ice cream with you and linking her fingers with you while holding your hand.

The place you're staying at isn't anything fancy, a little cottage near the ocean that has everything you need

You'll definitely do a spa day with her with massages and a hot spring bath and she adores this.

Put flowers in her hair pls, it will make her tear up out of happiness. She tells you she loves you and snuggles you.

Bowser's longtime flame has officially tied the knot, she's shooting off fireworks to celebrate, she's leaving the country on a world tour honeymoon, she's taken out an actual literal billboard on the road between their cities to showcase the wedding photos

So Bowser's like hey, I'm not stupid, I can see you're over it, you don't have to rub it in my face, but he can't even say that because she's blocked him on everything

And he was GOING to hire a skywriter to spell it out over the wedding, but the skywriting company said there was a conflict with the fireworks company and they couldn't get clearance, and Bowser is halfway through checking his own plane to see if he can rig something up when he realizes hey, this is kinda pathetic

They are both extremely over-the-top people and it's hard not to escalate when you're both filthy rich.

So Peach and Mario are off on a year-long world tour honeymoon, and Mario privately offered to let Luigi tag along, so he's feeling pretty pathetic himself.

And Mario SAYS they'll still run the business together, but Luigi has seen Peach's schedule as...governor? President? Monarch? And it's pretty packed, and Mario already has his own dedicated bodyguard from her retinue, and Luigi is picking up a lot more clearly than his brother how things are gonna change

For the better! Mario's gonna love the parties and meeting people and playing sports with actual athletes and driving sports cars on closed professional tracks against real racers, and he can fix a sink but he's got the brains to fix a city's infrastructure too. He's gonna do great.

And Luigi...Luigi will be fine. Really! One-man plumbing business. He can do this. Except other businesses are already poaching their customers on the premise that Mario is retired and the Mario Brothers will be shutting down, and the only way Luigi can counter that is by cashing in on his brother's fame to get people's attention. Which, no thanks.

So he's just come out of the tropical storm of wedding prep and parties exhausted and ready to take a break, but he needs to scramble as the business dissolves under his feet, and their house is paid off and bills should be fine but it's such a gut punch to see how easily his life crumbles without his brother, and Luigi is TIRED. Luigi wants a BREAK. Luigi wants someone rich and fun and good-looking to swoop in and take HIM on a vacation.

"Maybe I should get a rich husband to take care of me," he mumbles into the newspaper draped over his face, covered in ads for rival businesses and Peach's honeymoon tour.

And you know...that's an idea. That's a real idea. He's already been on blind dates, there's always somebody who has a gay nephew or cousin or coworker who would LOVE a tall strong man like Luigi, they're sure~! So what if he picks out his own guy? And if they don't click, he can just shrug it off as them not being rich enough for him. That's believable, there's enough photos of him at the palace and Mushroom-Wimbledon and Mushroom-Kentucky Derby to say he's developed a taste for the good life.

In all honesty, he HAS developed a taste for the good life. Not high teas and little cucumber sandwiches, but being able to drop everything and go to an island, or play a round of golf, or picnic in the countryside, or play Indiana Jones in desert ruins while Peach is off hobnobbing with local rulers. He had fun. And it would be even more fun if he wasn't tagging along after his brother, if it was someone doing those things for HIM, because they liked him and wanted to impress him and--and spoil him, he makes himself acknowledge. He wants to be spoiled. He wants to be...a sugar baby.

Cue montage! Luigi is a good looking fella, but he's also visually Green Mario, and the idea is to NOT leech off his brother's rep. The mustache goes. The overalls have already been retired. No more baseball cap keeping his thick wavy hair out of his face, no more sturdy waterproof work boots. He regrets getting rid of the mustache, and starts growing a five-o-clock shadow. Maybe he'll grow a beard, those are trendy.

That's the picture that pops up in Bowser's inbox as he sorts through correspondence.

 He's pulling back and being really honest with himself about what he actually wants. And honestly? Peach isn't it. Not anymore. It was a painful revelation, but a necessary one. She's not the same hyper-giggly cheerleader type he met in university, and he's not the party boy rugby jock he was back then either. He doesn't need a hot blonde girl on his arm to impress his teammates and stop any ugly rumors in their tracks. He doesn't need to beat anybody up for saying he's gay. And honestly, it was freaking exhausting trying to keep up with Peach's schedule when he was a young adult with just classes and games to worry about, now that's he's mumble-something years old and has his own country to run, he couldn't imagine trying to do half of the things she has packed into her schedule.

So...good for her. She got that guy who loves being social and making a bajillion new friends without being rude to them and can probably stay in the background and let her shine without it chafing, either. Good for her. He is genuinely happy for her.

He has a hard time conveying that to the cowering housekeepers as he finishes smashing the last of her portraits into bits, but he doesn't pay them to understand him, just obey him, so he tells them to sweep it up and stomps back to his office.

He needs more people like that in his life, he thinks, if he's being honest. He needs someone who won't argue him in circles or make him feel stupid debating political policy or hint that his family are tyrants. His family gets stuff DONE, okay, no need to go through six layers of wishy-washy old toads and delicately manage public image in the process. Say it and it is so, and the people will see that their needs are met and be grateful. That's the Bowser way.

 Romantically, what does he need? He makes a little list.

1. Hot.

2. No arguing.

3. No criticizing or trying to change him.

4. No pink or girly.

5. Just...hot okay? A hot dude. There, he said it. A hot dude he can take on dates who won't try to fix him, who won't think there's anything WRONG with him that needs fixing, somebody who can just be hot and pretty and hang around making him look good without getting in his way or trying to take over.

Ugh. He needs a Mario, that's what he needs, somebody to quietly stand around and smile at him and feed him cake. But way hotter. Way, WAY hotter.

 He quits glaring at Peach's wedding ads long enough to type out a basic list of demands and send it to a matchmaking service. (It's a sugar baby service, but he'll be damned if he calls it that.) He's not doing ANY work for this relationship. He's rich, he's powerful, he's reasonably attractive, he thinks? Got a bit of a gut since college but he's still got muscle. Whatever, he's got a castle and a fleet of cool cars and enough money to spoil the hell out of TEN thirsty twinks, whoever he picks can keep their mouth shut about his beer belly. No, he's going full Lizzo, he's not considering anyone unless they LOVE his body. He's rich enough to afford that.

He's all set to send that pic to his potential matches, but then Luigi's pic pops into his inbox, and he panics and switches. He's not trying to scare matches off, that would be self-sabotaging. And he's a fun guy, not some bum who gets drunk and passes out on a deck chair, that was ONE TIME and he was recovering from sunburn, you didn't need to snap a picture of it, guys. Whatever. Fun in the sun dad bod pic, that should be enough to reel in a boyfriend.

So. Bowser is a smart man, and the ruler of a kingdom. He does have bodyguards, and he designs most of his own security systems. The service will weed out the scammers, but he's investigating his matches himself, and Luigi is...not unknown to him. He's probably wildly unrecognizable to most people post-makeover, but Bowser was stalking Peach's wedding and has dossiers on everyone in the wedding party. He KNOWS what his ex-rival's brother looks like without a hat.

The only question is WHY. Is this a game? A joke? A sick trap? Why is he doing this?

"Why are you doing this?" is the first message he sends through the service.

And boy oh boy is that the question of the hour, Luigi thinks, staring at it. He has no idea who's he writing to, the...DADDIES are wealthy and important enough to warrant a bit of identity protection. He'll get a picture in advance of any meetings, but for now he's flying blind.

He's not gonna dump his whole life's story on a stranger, and he doesn't need to justify his decisions to anybody. He's not hurting for company, or money, so why is he doing this?

"I want to take a break and have fun with someone who can afford to take me nice places and do cool things" is what he decides on. It's true.

The rest is just them going nice places and doing cool things together. No drama, no schemes, no misunderstandings or second-guessing about why they’re there. Bowser pays for everything, and gives Luigi some spending money besides. Luigi works hard to relax and be sexy and flirty and fun. It helps that Bowser is so comfy to cuddle with, and actually taller than him, which is impressive.

He is vaguely aware that he is dating Peach's ex, he figures that out around the third date or so, but the guy is remarkably chill compared to how she described him, (and in this world Peach's security detail handled any incidents, there was no kidnapping (recently,) and the Mario brothers weren't heroes who needed to curb-stomp anyone, so Luigi has never met Bowser directly.)

Bowser is keenly aware that he is dating Peach's brother-in-law, but he works hard to relax, not obsess over anything, and just be cool and fun to hang out with. It helps that Luigi is super hot, a little goofy when he relaxes, and enjoys draping himself over Bowser while they lounge on the beach, or on a train ride through the mountains, or a tour of wine country. Lots of hot guy draped all over him while people stare enviously.

It's definitely envy, nothing to do with how Bowser just chugged half a bottle of merlot. He needed to wash the taste of that horrible rosé out of his mouth, okay? Who bottled that, a skunk? Horrible bouquet. Horrible. Luigi, buzzed and giggly and tucked up against Bowser's side staring at him adoringly, thinks Bowser is the funniest, wittiest guy in the world. They should definitely get out of there. The proprietors sell them a case of the merlot and gently suggest that the gentlemen switch to cheese tasting now, so they do.

Bowser's driver takes them on a long ride up the coast, and they have dinner at a beach chateau at sunset and listen to the cresting waves as the stars come out, and Luigi thinks this is exactly what he needed.

And Bowser just spent a long weekend out of his workshop and not buried in paperwork, and he's got some nice wine and stories to charm some diplomat who's visiting next week, and hey maybe Luigi can handle the charming and let Bowser do the diplomacy, or maybe he'll just sit at the dinner table eating fancy food and looking pretty while Bowser takes care of everything.

Man, it's good to be the king. Especially when you've got a doll like this by your side, cheering you on, waiting to see what you’ll do next. He needed this, this ego stroking and taking care of someone, showing off for them. Not running after a pink velvet track suit who's got a million clubs and committees and parties to coordinate. And wow, he hasn't thought about her in a while. A few days, at least. And he doesn't want to think of her now, under the stars, with a fuzzy face nuzzling his neck and strong hands slowly petting down his chest hair and over his belly. He's good. He’s good.

She could feel the adoring eyes of family, friends, and the professional photographer they’d hired, on them, but it was all secondary. The only thing that she was really concerned with was the warmth of his embrace and that glint in his eyes that made hers well up. She wasn’t sure if she could explain it, but Y/n was sure that she’d never seen love so certain in anyone’s gaze. “What?” She smiled softly, staring up at him. 

“Every time I think I’ve had the best day of my life, something happens and life just gets better,” gently, he twirled her, and when his palm was once more secured in her waist, and her gaze was once more matched with his gorgeous blue one, he added softly, “Everything with you just gets better. You know? When I met you, it was the best day of my life. Then our first date, and our second one. And the first time you said you loved me- and when you agreed to marry me. Today,” he said with emphasis and Y/n easily recalled a ceremony in front of Cinderella’s castle, in true fashion of a Disney wedding. It had been perfectly magical- the setting sun had offered the most stunning orange glow to the pastel decor, the small, intimate crowd had gathered to share in their misty eyed exchange of personal vows and while they had opted to not have fireworks upon being pronounced man and wife, Y/n could have sworn that there’d been a burst of color when she’d kissed him for the first time as Mrs. Evans. 

As the song reached its crescendo, Chris carefully dipped her, and when they stood again, he held her closer than before, their steps lapsing out of the rehearsed dance in favor of a more intimate sway. “Yeah?” She beamed, “Well, everything gets better with you too,” her smile softened and Y/n moved her hand from his shoulder to caress his nape, threading the ends of his hair through her fingers, “I know that fairytales aren't real,” her voice dropped to a private whisper as she urged closer, leaning forward on her toes so their lips would be close enough to touch, “But this comes pretty damn close.”

“It does,” he rasped in agreement, locking his lips with hers in a kiss that tasted of champagne and a honeyed sweetness that she only associated with him, “And I can’t wait to see the rest of it with you.”

Blinking away a wave of emotion as the song changed and their guests joined them on the dance floor, Y/n nodded subtly, “Neither can I. I love you.”

Chris’ hand slid from her waist to the small of her back as he caught her lips in another ardent- and that time longer- kiss, words mumbled into her mouth as he returned, “I love you too.”

Kiri and Alex are married!

I rarely do big weddings so here's everything that went wrong on their wedding day😭

I forgot to buy a functional bouquet for the bouquet toss so I hired a vendor at the venue but they never showed up!

The Headliner DJ didn't show up, do they ever??

Alex shoved cake in Kiri's face and she got VERY mad

The wedding artist I "hired" kept leaving in the middle of the painting, I spent more time controlling her than I did the bride and groom

I accidentally invited Kiri's ex - he cried and raged the entire time like dude just leave

No one paid attention to the fireworks

Alex's parents didn't show

All of the food we prepared before the wedding SPOILED within the hour of the reception 😭 I swore if I kept them in the fridge we had more than 2 days

Kiri turned up pregnant before the wedding!

I did and I thought about their wedding a lot. 🥰 They both are men of big gestures and known to leave a strong impression with anything they do, although in slightly different ways. Salvadore wouldn’t admit it, but he always had very specific ideas regarding his wedding for someone who never truly had planned to get married (unless for political reasons should it come to it) at all. Daeran would have preferred something unconventional, a huge festivity too, but with some kind of provoking, maybe even shocking element to it. But a classical, very big, and serious wedding – a true ceremony – was so important to Salvadore that Daeran agreed to it. (In the end, secretly overwhelmed by it in the best imaginable, most emotional of ways. After all, he highly enjoys huge romantic scenarios too.) The planning took months, the guest list alone was a challenge already, especially since the wedding happened during the time of political turmoil in Mendev after queen Galfrey’s death. (Salvadore also used it to further solidify his claim to the throne.) Their wedding suits were custom-made, of course, and the best tailors of Drezen, Nerosyan, and Absalom competed for the commission. Eventually, they decided on very elegant garments in white and golden. – The color scheme for all the decorations too. The wedding itself took place in the Cruciform Cathedral in Nerosyan. Both Salvadore and Daeran are atheists, but Salvadore’s opinion of Iomedae grew much more positive after she had started not only to accept but to support him in his decision to keep his angelic powers and to treat him like the Celestial he had become. To choose her Cathedral for the wedding suited his and Iomedae’s … Salvadore would call it an alliance. (Furthermore, it fitted the aesthetic he had in mind.) The ceremony was solemn and extravagant, the room filled with a vast number of white flowers and elegant golden adornments, flooded by sunlight, and a string quartet accentuated their arrival. Since Daeran had agreed to leave this part of the planning mainly to Salvadore, in return he got to decide all the details about the celebrations afterwards and was allowed to bring on any debauchery he wished for. It became an illustrious party in and around their estate in Nerosyan. Daeran ordered delicacies from different countries, an impressive variety of wines, liquors and other substances, hired renowned musicians, artists, dancers and performers, and of course they had fireworks. The festivities went on for three days and afterwards Salvadore and Daeran left for their honeymoon on the Isle of Kortos / in Absalom. Henry stood with his dad overlooking the pandemonium of Christmas with both his and Aurora’s family. His many nieces and nephews along with his brothers and their wives sweltering through their first Australian summer. They had all tried to find refuge inside the air-conditioned house, much to Aurora’s amusement, but given there were so many of them, they all eventually ended up spilling out of the house and into the backyard. The adults all gravitating towards Aurora, Ben and Raphi and the promise of cold drinks and wine, the kids finding amusement in jumping through the sprinkler Henry had set up.

Eventually, the kids had all figured out how close to the beach they were and wondered down for a swim, with strict safety instructions as the adults stayed behind to revel in the quiet and drinks, laughter ringing out amongst them.

Henry felt his dad nudge him arm.

“Are you excited for the wedding?” He asked softly

“I am, once Aurora gets around to figuring out what she wants to do.” Henry replied.

“Is she planning it? Is she ok doing that?”

“We’re planning it together, she seems ok with it, excited even. I feel bad because sometimes I see those clouds in her eyes, but she’s a lot better these days” Henry said finishing his drink.

His dad nodded.

“Did you ever think in a million years this would happen, kid?”

Henry smiled at the nickname his dad always used for him, it was a way to keep him grounded and to remind him that he was someone’s son first and foremost. The attitude of his early days quickly stamped out by his dad.

“No, I didn’t. I don’t know and I don’t want to know what my life would be like without her now that I have her”

He heard his dad chuckle, Henry turned to him.

“I think I knew it was Aurora after you guys had that blistering argument, you were an absolute nightmare. I most definitely knew it was her the night we had that celebration in London. You’ve never smiled this big before, you were just so at ease with the world. I always wanted that for you.” He clapped Henry on the back, and Henry reached for his hand to hold it for a while.

“Thanks Dad.”

His old man nodded and cleared his throat before he went on to join his wife. Henry stayed where he was, content with the world and his life in this backyard in Wollongong as the sun started waned in the late afternoon heat. The calm and peace he felt only interrupted by the absolute chaos only children can bring as they all came back, barging through the front door the sand and salt sticking to their bodies, their parents complaining about the already appearing sunburn.

New years rolled around, and Henry had gone all out. He hired a private boat on the waters of Sydney Harbour to watch the midnight fireworks. He could see the silhouettes of partygoers that packed Circular Quay and its surrounds, a lucky few on the steps of the Opera house. Boats dotted the harbour around him, all vying for the best spot.

“This is the boujee lifestyle I have always deserved. Henry gets full custody of me in the divorce settlement” Raphi said, making his way towards Aurora who was seated on the back of the boat, gently swaying with the waves.

Aurora rolled her eyes “You’re such a fucking Queen”

“Hey, I need to be kept into the new lifestyle of which I am now intimately accustomed”

Aurora snorted into her cocktail as she took a sip.

She was spectacular tonight, her short pink sequin dress matched by the makeup and glitter on her eyes. Her heels were long discarded on the floor. Her lips painted a daring shade of hot pink that did not help Henry’s imagination of where else that lipstick could be on his body.

Tonight, it was just the adults, the kids at home with their grandparents who wouldn’t have survived the festivities. Charlie and his wife, Heather were like kids again, giggling and groping each other with wild abandon, while his older brothers teased them to get a room.

“Throw condoms at them, they don’t need anymore babies” Henry heard one of his brothers yell, the rest of them roaring with laughter, Charlie telling them to fuck off.

Henry took a seat next to Aurora and draped an arm over her shoulders. The lights of circular Quay glittering on the deep navy of the ocean. Leaning his head down, He kissed Aurora, her body overwhelming all his senses. She was all there was in his little bubble, this tiny part of time when the world fell away. He wanted more, but unfortunately he was painfully aware of his surroundings, he did appreciate her little pout when he broke the kiss.

“So what is NYE like in the emerald city?”

“Fucking spectacular!” Aurora whispered.

11.59pm and the party was well under way, Aurora and Raphi started corralling people towards them, making sure they didn’t miss a second. They were like little kids, both on their knees on the soft cushions of the boat, excitedly squealing and pointing, while also yelling at people to hurry up. Henry stood back with his brothers, taking in the harbour and the surrounds, he was actually really excited, he had seen parts of the fireworks display on TV, the Aussies always getting to celebrate first. The energy was infectious, his hammering heart watching the timer on the pillars of the harbour Bridge. Aurora ran past him followed by Raphi.

“Hurry the fuck up!” Raphi yelled.

As she raced back past Henry two bottles in hand, he laughed as she slid into position next to Raphi, bouncing on her heels.

Then it started. The countdown was on, Henry scanned the water, the harbour and the Opera house, there were so many people packed to the rafters waiting for a new year. Raphi and Aurora held on to each other as they counted down.

Then, the harbour exploded. A wash of light and colour, sound and cheers as a new year was rung in, fireworks bouncing off the harbour bridge and swallowed by the water bellow. Aurora and Raphi cheered at each other as they hugged and downed the rest of their drinks. Aurora turned her head, scanning the boat for Henry, their eyes locking before Aurora bounded up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulling him down to crash her lips against his.

In his life, Henry knew there were no comparable moments than the one he lived in right now. Henry wrapped his arms around Aurora’s waist and pulled her closer, deepening the kiss as the fireworks continued to erupt into the night sky.
