Finished the second chapter of my ‘nerds corruption au’ story!
I have way too much free time right now and I’m also having way too much fun writing this so here’s another chapter, this idea has me in an absolute chokehold.

“We’re Gonna Become the Bullies”
Chapter 2: They’re Walking a Very Fine Line
Paul’s been Richie’s guardian for going on four years now and in that time, Richie’s never given him much of a reason to worry. He’s never been sent to the principal’s office or the police station, he keeps his grades up, he chose the math club over the smoke club and the most rebellious thing he ever does is stay up late on a school night watching anime. More importantly, he tells Paul everything - when he gets bullied at school, when he’s struggling with a class, when he has a fight with Ruth (Oh God, Paul remembers, he promised they’ll go see The Barbecue Monologues to show her their support. Ugh. He does not like musicals). If he’s going to be out late, he always texts Paul to let him know where he is, what he’s doing and about when he thinks he‘ll be home.
At least he did until Friday night. He said he was going to Pete’s after school for a D&D session and he should be home around eleven. But then eleven o’clock rolled around and Richie didn’t appear, nor did a heads up that he was going to be late. Paul ignored the slight gnawing anxiety. There’s no reason to worry, he told himself, they probably just got really caught up in their game. From the few times Richie’s hosted D&D night at their place, he knows how intense they get with it.
But then it was a quarter past eleven and still no sign of him. He texted: hey, haven’t heard from you, everything okay? No answer. Ten more minutes passed and eventually he caved and called. Nothing. He tried two more times and still nothing. By eleven forty-five he was desperate enough to call Ted and ask if he’d heard anything from Peter. He hadn’t and he was none too pleased with Paul for interrupting his favorite pastime (“screwin’ around with another man’s wife”). Apparently, Ted had him on speaker, because Charlotte heard and she was much nicer about it. She told Paul they’d notify him if they heard anything and asked him to please let them know once Richie got home safe. Just when he was on the verge of a panic attack, he heard the lock clicking on the front door as Richie let himself in. By now it was almost two in the morning. Paul exhaled and the tension left his body. He’d never felt this relieved in his life. Obviously, Richie had some explaining to do, but at least he was here. At least Paul finally knew he was safe.
“Hi, Richie. Did something happen? Usually you at least shoot me a text if you’re going to be out late.” Something was definitely off. Richie’s clothes were disheveled and the way he rubbed his arm was subtly different from the way he usually does it - his hand rested on his shoulder rather than his forearm and he winced as if there was some physical pain he was trying to relieve. Did he get hurt? Why didn’t he call Paul for help if he got hurt?
“Oh, uh, sorry, Paul. We just got super into the campaign and I guess the time got away from us. Won’t happen again. I’m pretty tired now, I think I’m going to head to bed. Goodnight!” He rushed to his room before Paul could ask any follow-up questions.
“Goodnight, Richie,” Paul said with a sigh. He wasn’t convinced, but maybe Richie just needed time to open up about whatever actually happened. He always did eventually.
That night still weighs on Paul’s mind as he drives Richie to school Monday morning. Richie seems distracted, too. Without his usual enthusiastic rambling about the merits of subs versus dubs or why there should be a copy of the full Attack on Titan box set in the library of congress, the car feels eerily quiet. Paul turns on the radio to try and fill the silence, but the cheery, up-tempo song that comes on somehow creates an even weirder atmosphere. They finally pull up in front of the school and say their goodbyes.
Just as he’s about to take off, Paul notices a tall boy in a letterman jacket waving to Richie. Richie waves back and approaches him. Wait, isn’t that Max Jägerman? The kid that’s been bullying Richie and his friends for years? He watches as they walk towards the school entrance together. Why is Max being so friendly to him out of the blue? Is this the setup for some horrible, mean-spirited prank? Paul’s heart sinks, but there’s nothing he can do. He’ll just have to trust Richie’s judgment and be there for him if anything happens. He’s definitely going to Beanie’s on his lunch break today. He desperately needs a coffee and Emma will probably be happy to let him vent and maybe even provide some surprisingly thoughtful advice. Knowing her, she’ll welcome any distraction from her usual degrading job duties of making coffee, serving “cold, shitty pastries” and singing for tips.
“Hey, Richie! How was your weekend?” Max greets him enthusiastically. Huh, he’s been upgraded from Shitlips. Not only that, they’re on a first-name basis now. So they’re actually doing this. That night at the Waylon place wasn’t some weird fever dream.
“Uh, it was okay, I guess? My Uncle Paul didn’t seem too happy with me for staying out so late on Friday, but he didn’t, like, ground me or anything. Other than that I didn’t do much, just rewatched Attack on Titan again.” Friday was the weirdest, most stressful night of his life and he had no idea what to expect on Monday, so the comfort and familiarity was much needed.
“Oh, cool. My dad was pretty upset when I told him what happened, too.”
“That makes sense, you did almost die.”
“Yeah, he’s really pissed I didn’t. Wanted to collect the life insurance payout or whatever. You know how dads are,” Max says with a shrug. Richie actually doesn’t know how dads are, but he’s pretty sure that’s not normal.
“Oh, uh, sorry. That sucks.” What else can he say to something like that?
“Anyway, I gave Kyle and Jason the rundown over the weekend and told them to spread the word. Everyone should know by now that you and the rest of the group are not to be messed with and from now on they’ll be answering to all of us. And if anybody tries it you just let me know, it’s a swirly and a flick-it ticket for them. We’ll do it together. I have to teach you the proper form, anyway.”
Oh, right. That part of the deal. It’s not just being cool with Max Jägerman, it’s being “on his level” as he phrased it. Which means joining in on the bullying unless they can use whatever influence they now have to talk Max out of it. Grace did say she thought it was possible back at the Waylon place. Richie agreed at the time. Does he still believe that? Did he ever, or was he just trying to justify their decision? If they can even pull it off, it’s going to be a lot more complicated than just going “Hey, let’s not bully anyone!” and Max being like “Okay, sounds good!”
“Will do, Max, but uh, what if it’s somebody who doesn’t have nuts?” Richie asks. He may or may not be speaking from experience. Truthfully, flick-it tickets have never worked on him, but convincingly faking like they’re the most painful thing in the world has probably saved him from Max inflicting actual pain countless times. Ruth’s acting tips have been really helpful for that.
“Oh, good point! Two swirlies, then. Love your inclusive way of thinking!”
The bell rings, providing Richie with a convenient exit from this conversation.
“Oh, gotta get to honors English, see ya later!”
“Bye, Max.” He hurries to Physics, wondering how the hell Max is in honors English.
When he joins their usual group (plus Grace and Steph) at the lunch table, it seems like everyone else is reeling from the changed dynamic, too. At least Ruth is having a good time with it.
“She actually said hi to me!” Ruth says, her eyes lighting up “Then she told me my headgear is fire today! It was so hot, you could cut the sexual tension with a knife!” There’s only one person at school who still says things are fire unironically. Brenda must have gotten the memo.
“Isn’t she dating Kyle?” Pete points out “I know Max won’t let them, but clearly they’d just go behind his back, right?”
“Yeah,” Richie chimes in “If anything, sneaking around would make it hotter. ‘Forbidden fruit’ and all that.”
“Duh! Everyone knows that, watch some porn! But also, watch some romcoms - I’m the nerdy underdog, obviously she chooses me in the end.”
Before Grace can admonish Ruth for being so lewd or Stephanie can rant about the problematic tropes and implications of the romcom comment (the collective word count of her Twitter threads on the subject rivals War and Peace), Pete raises the question that’s been on all of their minds:
“Can we really be considered underdogs anymore?”
“I don’t know. The vibe is definitely different from before,” replies Richie “God, this morning was so weird. Max just walked up to me and started the most normal ass ‘how was your weekend?’ conversation ever. I mentioned anime and he didn’t even make fun of me, it was fucking surreal!”
“It’s definitely weird, but I have to admit it’s been kind of nice to be able to walk down the hallway without constantly watching my back,” Pete says “Brad Callahan called me Micro-Pete earlier. I told him to back off and he actually did!”
“He called you what?” Startled, they all look up to find Max looming over them at the end of their table. When did he get here? “I fuckin’ told him not to bother you guys, but it looks like my instructions were unclear. C’mon, Pete, let’s go find him. We’ll make sure there are no further misunderstandings.”
“What, like, beat him up? I don’t know, Max, he’s twice my size. And he did back off, maybe we let him off with a warning this time?” Pete protests weakly.
“It’s okay, dude, I’ll be right there with you! Nobody who knows what’s good for them is going to jump in to defend him, either, so it’ll be two against one. And I know pummeling people seems intimidating if you’ve never done it before, but I’ll show you the ropes. I bet you're stronger than you think you are!” Ignoring the subject matter, Pete has to admit Max gives a pretty solid pep talk. Now that they’re sort of friends, maybe Max will send some of that energy his way before the AP Physics exam.
“Okay,” Pete says, still uncertain, but also acutely aware that he’s not getting out of this one.
“Can I come with?” Stephanie asks “I’ve actually always wanted to slap Brad across his stupid, smug face, but this is the final straw. Nobody’s going to disrespect you like that on my watch.” Pete turns beet-red.
“Oh, awesome, three against one!” Max says “Let’s roll out!” Stephanie grabs Pete’s hand and the three take their leave. Max and Steph walk with a menacing, determined stride like predators stalking their prey. Pete trails behind them, a little more hesitant, but still follows.
“Slapping Brad in the face has always been one of my fantasies, too! Probably not in the same way, though,” Ruth says “I should’ve joined them! Life is but a series of missed opportunities.”
“Ruth,” Grace says “have you ever considered taking a vow of chastity? Resisting the temptation you’re feeling until you’re safely married could save your immortal soul.”
“No, of course not! Why would I do that now of all times? I’m not a repulsive loser anymore, somebody might finally touch me!” Ruth sighs dreamily. “I’m telling you guys, me and Brenda, there’s something there.”
“If you’re so worried about our immortal souls, why didn’t you try to stop them just now? I don’t spend my weekends at bible study, but I’m pretty sure wrath is a sin,” says Richie.
“Well, Brad has it coming. He’s always been a no good sinner. It’s not our wrath, it’s God’s wrath. They’re just carrying out His will.”
Richie’s surprised to find himself entertaining Grace’s point. She’s right about Brad, at least. He has always been kind of an asshole. He was picking on Pete earlier, too, and it certainly wasn’t the first time. Then there’s the whole “long-con” aspect of it all - once again, things aren’t going to change overnight. They all need to play along if they don’t want to lose their new status ruling Hatchetfield High by Max’s side. Maybe if the next target is less deserving than Brad, he can test the waters and try to get Max to lay off. For now, Richie will just head to his next class and try to make it through the rest of the school day without being roped into roughing somebody up.

What do you think about each Megaman X’s main games?
These may not be my in-depth thoughts on the X series, but if you want the gist anyways...
• X1 was (and still is) a fantastic first impression from both a gameplay and story standpoint. Makes me all the more salty that Capcom thought that making Maverick Hunter X a PSP exclusive was a good idea. In all seriousness, it accomplished what it set out to do (being the start of a MegaMan series for the next generation). Oh, and the OST slaps.
youtube
• X2 was a pretty damn good follow-up to the first game. Opens up strong (RIP Green Biker Dude), and the X Hunters provided that extra layer of tension in rebuilding Zero before they do. Oh, and the OST slaps.
youtube
• X3 was an okay game. Not spectacular, as it did fall short of the first two, but you also never forget that moment where Zero bursts in from the ceiling and - OH SHIT, I'M PLAYING AS ZERO?! Shame Zero was implemented so haphazardly after all that hype from X1 and 2, tho. Anyhow, I've played X3 the most out of the early X series to the point where I can name off every single X3 Maverick by heart. Always thought that Dr. Doppler was neat, too. Oh, and the OST slaps.
youtube
• If playing as Zero in X3 was only an appetizer, then him being fully playable in X4 is the creme of the crop! I always admired that Capcom stuck to their guns and kept X4 a 2D game instead of just diving headfirst into 3D (we would eventually have Legends for our 3D MegaMan fix). Gameplay was fantastic (if a little on the easy side) and I never brought this up before, but I love X4's selection of weapons the most. The story of X4... not gonna lie is kinda dumb in retrospect. Okay, I'm gonna TRY and talk about X4 without bringing up its... "infamous" English dub, but I just can't empathize with Repliforce (except maybe General's sacrifice at the end) because their situation could've easily been avoided. Not that X and Zero were much better, given that Zero shouldn't have attacked Colonel if the latter just wanted to talk, and X... let's be real here, X got completely shafted from a story standpoint because the interesting story beats (and I use that term loosely) happens in Zero's campaign. Well, at least this game gave us Magma "HE BETRAYED THE IRREGULAR HUNTERS AND HID HIMSELF IN A VOLCANO" Dragoon, and the armors you can get for X are fun to mess around with. Oh, and the OST slaps.
youtube
• X5... Hoo boy, X5. You know the saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Well, X5 feels like the result of someone who didn't quite get that memo. It's not a bad game by any means, but it does a myriad of questionable things (oh hey, Alia). I always wondered what it was about Capcom making the 5th entries in their franchises the most handhold-y yet also most frustrating games ever (oh hey, Dual Destinies). Not to mention the Enigma cannon having a chance of failing even at 100% completion. As a (at the time) finale to the X series, it stumbles in places, but it's an okay send-off, in my opinion. Even has a celebratory vibe to it from the moment you boot the game up. Oh, and the OST slaps.
youtube
PS,
Tumblr media
• X6 was a headache and a half; doomed to fail from the start since it was greenlit (and against Inafune's wishes, no less). Also, Zero's back now! Never you mind that he was just an arm and a talking torso the last time we saw him; he hid himself while he tried to repair himself, clearly! In all seriousness, this game was very slapped together to make a quick buck off of brand recognition, and it shows. Even the plot feels like little more than a first draft (how much of that is due to the game's REALLY poor English localization if it had any, who knows?) The Nightmare was poorly thought out too, and the bosses? What can I say? They suck too. At least the OST slaps.
youtube
• What can I say that hasn't been said already about X7? It controls like molasses, the 3D sections were forcibly tacked on, the voice acting (while not nearly as bad as X4's imho) was stiff and atrocious, X's portrayal in this game (though I didn't mind it as much as most people did) is infamous for a number of reasons, and the less said about one particular fire-based Maverick, the better. If anything good came from X7's existence, if you asked me... it's Axl. No seriously, I remember being one of the few people on the planet who actually liked Axl as a character (not sure if that's changed any in recent times, though). At least the OST still slaps.
youtube
• X8 was a decent (if a little mis-timed) pallette cleanser after X7 came and went. Although, weirdly enough, it's the only game in the X series I played from beginning to end once, and then never touched again. I can never remember why, though. Oh, and the OST slaps.

Character Option 2
Warnings: None
Word count: 619
Note: This is not a full chapter. This is a side path from Chapter 2.
"Smart, stealthy, and agile with a deep understanding of nature." you say with a smile. Eddie's eyes light up, "Now that's a wood elf druid if I've ever heard one. Damn y/n, this is gonna be fun!" As he starts flipping through the pages, you shiver and decide to cozy up against him a little, but he's so focused he doesn't even seem to notice. After a minute of skimming, he finally lands on the page explaining elves and their subraces and absentmindedly reaches his left arm around you to point at it. "See what I mean? This fits perfectly!" he says. Looking over at you, he suddenly realizes that he's wrapped his arm around you. He quickly snaps his arm back to his side as his face turns red. "I-I, uh, sorry, I, uh, hope I didn't freak you out." he stammers. "God damnit, way to go, Eddie." he mutters to himself. "Hey, it's okay I didn't mind." you say. You pause for a second, "In fact..." you say as you lift his arm and place it back around you. "You, uh, you sure, y/n? You don't have to if you don't want to." Eddie asks with soft eyes. You just shake your head and lean into him, "I'm sure, now let's make this character." You say with a smile. He returns the smile and squeezes you a little then looks back at his book.
"So you see how wood elves have increased base walking speed, above average senses, and are forest dwellers with a specialty in hiding? I think that mixed with the druid class..." He pauses while he uses his free hand to flip to the page about druids then continues, "it would be perfect. The druid class lets you basically become one with nature and draw on it to cast spells and eventually you'll be able to transform into creatures. Pretty cool, right?" He asks, practically bursting with joy. You nod, "It's absolutely perfect." you reply. He excitedly squeezes you again then leans over to his bedside table and pulls out a piece of paper and pencil, refusing to let you go the whole time. He quickly scribbles what you've decided on so far then sets it to the side. "I'll finish this up for you later and bring you a new shiiiiny character sheet at lunch tomorrow." he says with that big dumb grin on his face as usual. He glances at the clock over your shoulder and his eyes get big, "Oh shit, it's almost midnight. I should probably get you home before someone thinks I kidnapped you." he says while jokingly elbowing you a little. He sets everything on the table and springs up, offering you his hand to help you up like he did the first time you met him. But this time he doesn't let go. "Sooo this is okay, right? I can do this?" he asks nervously. You look at him softly and silently interlock your fingers with his.
You two exit the trailer hand in hand. After pausing to lock the door behind you, he leads you to the passenger side. He opens the door and sweeps his arm with a little bow "Your VIP seating." he says with the signature grin. After closing your door, he gets into the driver side and starts the van. On the drive, he plays with your fingers while going on and on about how cool it is that he gets to be the DM in your first campaign. You arrive at your house and he pulls you into a goodbye hug before you get out. "Have a good night. See you tomorrow, y/n!" he says with a wave.

Buddy’s Problem part 2
Okay! Part two is done! Part three probably isn't gonna be until after the New Year, though, but it should be the final part.
Enjoy the story, and have a Merry Christmas! :D
As it turned out, being a campaign manager was pretty difficult, especially when Buddy had to travel to a whole different town for it. Filbo lived in a small farming town called Kinsing. Several other members of the expedition lived there too, though Wiggle, Gramble, and Cromdo lived in Gippsenburg. Either way, apparently Filbo wasn't very well known, having moved to Kinsing recently.
That was useful, and Buddy could totally work with that.
First was getting him nominated, which was easy as anyone could throw their name in. Filbo actually did that himself, though he needed some coaxing from Buddy to actually put it into the box. They then went out for burgers(not Bungers, thankfully) afterwards. They were joined by Beffica, who was shocked that Filbo was running for a real political position.
"Like, seriously? That's awesome you squeeb!" She gave him a soft punch to the arm, which he winced at. She didn't notice, or maybe just ignored it. "I didn't think you had it in you."
"Well, I mean, I ended up doing pretty good back at Snax- on Snaktooth, so I figured I might as well try for the real thing." He told her, rubbing the soon-to-be-bruise. "Worst thing that could happen is I'll lose to Robbzoni."
"Ugh, Robbzoni. He's the worst." She helped herself to Buddy's fries, even as he tried to yank the plate away from her. "He's the real reason we don't have anymore flowers by the roads. He kept stealing them, so eventually the town stopped replacing them."
"How the grump did you find that out, Beff?" Buddy asked before shoving the whole handful of remaining fries into his mouth. She just shrugged and went for Filbo's plate instead.
"I snooped, Bestie. Just like I always do. Did." She corrected herself quickly, looking away. "I, uh, used to do that."
"So..." Buddy searched for a new topic. "What do you do now, anyways?"
"Oh, I got hired as a reporter at CGN. It's a bit of a commute, but not so bad." She shrugged. "And my coworkers aren't so bad, either."
Ah, the rival for GNN. Buddy remembered all the fights that had broken out between reporters at events. He also remembered the time he raided their office with some of his coworkers and stole all of their paperclips. It was in retaliation for them stealing all the rubber-bands at GNN. Which was to get back at them for stealing all of CGN's staples.
Good times.
"Here." He dug out a bottle of pepper-spray and handed it to the shorter Grumpus. "You'll need this."
"Uh." She looked between him and the large canister. "... Thanks. I think."
"No problem." He took a long drag on his soda as the conversation drifted away from him. Which was just fine, as he was busy brainstorming anyways, writing down plans and ideas into his journal. So far he didn't have a lot, but he'd talk to Filbo about it later and see what they could do.
Maybe a party? Filbo always seemed to like them, back on Snaktooth, so maybe that would be a good way to win him some votes.
The rest of the time passed by in a blur. Events were held, debates, parties, even a couple of bake sales that reminded Buddy of his school days. Speeches were made, each carefully crafted to have the best effect on the small populace of the town.
Wambus was actually a big help with that. As a farmer himself, he knew what to say to get and keep the farmers on Filbo's side. So they ended up conferring with him a lot, which meant going to his and Triffany's house a lot.
He was a surprisingly good cook, honestly. The meals they shared there were some of the best Buddy ever ate. He really would miss those nights when everything was done here, but that was no reason not to continue the "quest" for Filbo.
It was one such night, where Wambus had grilled some delicious steaks and corn on the cobs. He also had some homegrown sauces that he'd brought from Snaktooth, which made Buddy a little uneasy. But, the older farmer seemed to know what he was doing with that so he let it go for now.
"You seem to be getting pretty popular, dear." Triffany was saying to Filbo as Buddy doodled in his journal. He flipped it around to show Wambus his idea of a steak-based Bugsnax, only for the farmer to just grunt in acknowledgement. That was good enough for him though and he put the book aside to eat some more.
"Heh, yeah." Filbo rolled his corn on the cob in some butter. "It's all thanks to Buddy, though. He's doing great on the whole 'campaign manager' thing."
"It's not that hard." Buddy shrugged. "Not like you're running for Minister of the Public or something. It's just a few events to plan, and, like, two debates."
"True, but it still seems like a lot of work." Filbo actually looked kind of concerned, but Buddy waved it off.
"It's... it's really not." He told them, even though it kind of was. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a full night's sleep, but it was definitely before Snaktooth.
"It would be tiring to be around all those people all the time." Wambus agreed. "I could never do that."
"Of course not, dear." Triffany agreed. "That's why you're a farmer."
"Yep."
Buddy watched the exchange with a small smile as Filbo took over the conversation, asking after the sauce crops. Whatever problems the couple had, he was glad they were working them out. He didn't want to even think about what would've happened if their marriage had broken up like...
Well, it wasn't good to dwell on it.
Wambus was right though; it was tiring being a campaign manager. He was almost glad the elections were ending soon, if only so he could get some more sleep. And then focus on finding a real job, as his savings were starting to run a little dry.
Still, as he watched his three companions, he felt content with how it was shaping up. Filbo was excitedly explaining all his plans for being Mayor, from replanting the flowers around the walking paths to finally getting the pot holes fixed. He even started explaining his plans to renovate the park in detail before Wambus finally reminded him to actually eat his steak.
"Oh, heh. Right." He cut a piece off, then opened his mouth to keep talking. Buddy took the opportunity to grab his wrist and shove the fork into his mouth.
"Eat it." He told him firmly, to quiet giggling from Triffany. Filbo shot him a glare, but obeyed, chewing quietly. Buddy then grabbed a forkful of his own steak to chew on, ignoring Triffany's pointed look.
The rest of the night passed without incident. In Buddy's opinion, it ended too soon. But then, it always did. And soon enough Buddy was back at his table in his apartment, drawing up more plans for the campaign. Luckily, the people seemed to really like Filbo. Or maybe they just hated Robbzoni that much more. Either way, according to the mid election survey Filbo was looking to be the popular candidate.
Still, he couldn't relax yet, there was still too much to do. The election itself was tomorrow. People would vote in the morning and the results would be announced both that afternoon, and in the next morning's paper. There would be one last speech before the vote though, and Buddy wanted to make sure it was perfect.
However as the time got later, and he had started the speech pretty later anyways, he found himself unwillingly drawn into sleep. Even as he tried to fight it off with copious amounts of caffeine, he inevitably passed out.
When he woke up, it was to Filbo calling him. In a panic, he grabbed his papers and raced out the door, practically flying down the stairs and into his car. He broke several traffic laws, but he managed to get to Kinsing Town Hall just barely on time. As he ran inside, he tried desperately to sort through the garbled mess of a speech he'd written.
He made his way to the backstage area, where Filbo was talking to... someone. Buddy felt like he should know the other Grumpus, but his exhausted mind just refused to make the connection. In any case, as soon as the Grumpus had left he was rushing up to Filbo, rapidly spewing apologies all the way.
"Sorry, sorry! I think I still have some time to, uh, to-to fix this? Maybe?!" His voice rose an octave and he quickly cleared his throat and tried to laugh off the rising panic. "I was up too late I think. Working. On this." He gave another short laugh, internally wincing at how off it sounded.
"Hey hey, it's okay." Filbo had to grab his shoulders, forcing them down from where Buddy had unconsciously hunched into himself. "I've got this one." He told him. Buddy blinked in surprise, hands lowering and almost dropping his papers.
"... You... you 'got' this?" Just what did he mean by that? Was Buddy unneeded? Had he been unneeded this whole time?
"Yeah. Since you've been working so hard lately, I figured I'd just, y'know, handle my own speech for today. " He gave a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of his head. "Sorry, I probably should've told you sooner-Oh!" He jumped at something the Grumpus on stage was saying. "There's my cue! See ya later!" He gave a quick wave before rushing off to get on stage, oblivious to Buddy's aborted attempt to reach for him.
'He didn't need me...' Quietly, Buddy dropped his speech into the trash. He then went for the snack table they had set up to get some coffee. 'I don't know why I even tried.'
The speeches were said, and then the voting happened. The surprising part, at least to Buddy, was that as they each voted the other members of the expedition would come up to them. A couple offered a "Good luck" or two, but none of them really left afterwards. They all hung around, and talked.
It made Buddy feel even more like he shouldn't have come. Filbo had plenty of people to keep him company for this, he didn't need Buddy Nobody did anymore.
So he sat just a little bit outside of the group, speaking only when someone talked to him directly. Other than that, he just drank his coffee quietly and wondered when would be a good time for him to leave.
It turned out never. The others never forgot about him for long enough for him to be able to slip away. Floofty in particular seemed intent on watching him, and they weren't blinking. He knew this because he straight up had a staring contest with the mad scientist, and they didn't blink once.
Soon enough, voting had closed and the votes were being counted. Poor Filbo was anxious through the whole thing, but never said anything about regretting running for mayor. Buddy was actually kind of proud of him for that, if he was being honest. He knew how hard the light blue Grumpus could be on himself, and he was glad he had gained some confidence at least.
Even if it was just another sign that he wasn't a help to him anymore. That he wasn't a help to anyone here anymore.
But, when they announced that Filbo had won, that he'd done it and beat out longtime Mayor Robbzoni, everyone present cheered. And not just the ones from Snaxburg, either, but everyone else who was hanging around. As everyone congratulated the new Mayor, and the MC announced when the official swearing in ceremony would take place, Buddy gave a quiet sigh into his coffee. Mentally, he ticked this quest as complete, but no new objectives came to mind.
"Hey, Buddy!" He looked up to see Filbo waving at him, and gave a small wave back. "We'll all going to Gramble's place to celebrate. You coming?"
Would he go? No. There wasn't anything for him to do there and besides, he had to get started on job hunting.
"... You guys go on ahead. I'll... I'll catch up with you later." There. Now he could go home and the others could get started on whatever came next for them.
Filbo hesitated a moment, searching Buddy's face intently. Then he shrugged and turned to follow the others. "Well, okay. If you're sure."
And then he was gone, along with the rest. Buddy put down his still full cup and stood up, dusting his fur off. He went to his car, a tiny little red thing that really needed to be traded in, and drove down the road back to Gippsenburg. He had a stop to make before he went home to his apartment, and then maybe he could finally work on forgetting everything.

Blooming in ZERO: Memories
Tumblr media
I’ve decided to T100 the Re:ZERO collaboration! Let’s review how it went. XD
WARNING! A rather image-heavy post
Tumblr media
Step 1: Roll for Rinko! (She’ll make my team stronger) Strictly speaking, I didn’t need her (means more work though), but I thought maybe I’ll get lucky? ^o^
I only had enough stars for 3 10-pulls though, and I have to say, this paid gacha was really tempting... (my Twitter friends all got Rinko WTF)
I’m broke though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tumblr media
We would quickly learn that we were overloading the servers, LOL. The game was very unplayable during the first two hours. During my first roll, the connection actually timed out D:
When I logged back in, I saw my stars got deducted, but thankfully I had new members in the waiting room. ^^
I actually got the limited Ako during that very first roll!
And so I tried again.
Tumblr media
Fuck my luck. I’ve done 3 10-pulls, and all of them sucked.
Time to start playing I guess...
Tumblr media
Oh right. The connection was bad.
Tumblr media
Really bad. >_<
Tumblr media
It’s been a while since I met coldgaze (P3), a fellow T10 from the Cycling Seasons event! That guy rarely shows up in the public rooms, LOL.
Also, we got a login campaign for 2500 stars! Which means another 10-pull! ^o^
Tumblr media
...Why did I even think my luck would improve. >_>
Know what?
I SUMMON THEE! BLACK FRIDAY SALES!!!
Tumblr media
MWAHAHAHAHAHA RIP wallet-kun, RIP being an F2P player 2020-2020
I swear to Babanbo-sama, if I don’t get Rinko using the paid gacha-
Tumblr media
OMG D:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE-
Tumblr media
YESSSSSSSSSS
I am now a believer in the Babanbo religion.
Tumblr media
WHAT? Had I known I would be rolling both Rinko and Ako in this single paid gacha I would have started with this and avoided wasting 10k stars!!!
>_<
(Of course, I couldn’t have known. Although in hindsight, I definitely should have tried rolling the paid gacha first... but then we only got the Black Friday sale news after I already spent 10k free stars, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Tumblr media
Fuck yes, Rinrin. Fuck yes.
I already had a good 4* Yukina, so I didn’t really need to roll for her anymore. Not to say I didn’t want her ^^
Anyway let the tiering continue!
Tumblr media
First checkpoint: Almost at T100!
Tumblr media
Let’s talk about Unite! A to Z for a bit.
I’ve been tiering since forever and one of the many gripes casual players like me (yes. I’m casual) is that a lot of the more serious players go into the public rooms and just spam the hell out of this song. I understand why they do it (tl;dr - short length, high score, aka “meta song”), and I can’t really stop them from doing it.
There are other meta songs, like Jumpin’, that give a little less score for a little longer duration, but players really, and I mean really, like to spam A to Z. I could argue that you can’t really get the full benefit of A to Z 100% of the time (players take time picking songs and difficulty anyway, and you’re not always going to be consistent with your score), so in the long run, there’s no significant harm in picking other meta songs (maybe I should do the math..?), but no.
For those players, 100% AtoZ.
And it’s gotten really annoying, to the point that players like the one in the screenshot just straight-up disconnects when AtoZ is picked.
Anyway, back to the story. ^o^
Tumblr media
WTF? Why is Gigguk (the #77 guy) tiering? XD Is that really Gigguk?
Who knows? XD
Tumblr media
99 ILLUSION IS MY LIFE
Tumblr media
I feel bad for P4, LOL. Surrounded by Yukina cards. XD
Tumblr media
WE ARE UNSTOPPABLE
Tumblr media
Progress report: T35!
Tumblr media
I took this screenshot just as I finished a game of AtoZ...
Tumblr media
...and the game disconnects WTF GIVE ME MY FLAMES AND EFFORT BACK
(the score’s a bit higher since it wasn’t completely tallied yet when I took the 1st screenshot)
Tumblr media
I’ve seen Bad Wifi Pam a couple of times during my entire Bandori career and when I saw this, all I could think was-
“Is it finally gonna happen?? IS IT!?”
Tumblr media
“YESSSS!” XD
I’m sorry Bad Wifi Pam, but that moment really felt like I saw the DVD logo diving into the corner XD
I hope they didn’t lose too many flames though.
Tumblr media
I told you, people just hate AtoZ XD
We didn’t sign up for a rhythm that only has one song, come on!
Tumblr media
My connection got bad a couple of times and I was punished for it. >_<
Tumblr media
There are 2 impostors among us.
Tumblr media
P3, when has that ever stopped them LOL
Tumblr media
UGH tell me about it, P4.
Tumblr media
FINALLY A RANDOM ROO-
Tumblr media
WHAT-
Tumblr media
WHY, P1 WHY!?
Tumblr media
I changed my name to encourage Random songs ^^
..not that it would work, but whatever.
Tumblr media
We more than managed to...
Stay Alive. ;D
I’ll see myself out.
Tumblr media
WTF is this, a Mexican Standoff???
Tumblr media
More AtoZ haters (also known as Etuze, well, coz that’s how Aya pronounces it... We love you Aya! :”> )
Tumblr media
Finally ran out of drinks.
It was time to burn stars for flames.
Tumblr media
:|
:|
:|
:|
(That Orion guy ended up as T9, BTW. There’s more incentive to AtoZ spam when going for T10, but it doesn’t make it any less annoying for me.)
Tumblr media
MY PC DIED WTF
It got fixed after a restart though, so thank fuck.
Now that I think about it, I need to really get down to the bottom of my GPU issues.
Tumblr media
LOL, one time I picked Happy Synthesizer for the lulz, and one of the AtoZ spammers disconnected :)))
TBF, nobody likes to see Happy Synthesizer in Multi.
Tumblr media
I’ve decided to be an asshole and just delay AtoZ. Oh? What’s that? AtoZ again? here, let me take 30 seconds to pick a difficulty.
Please note that this is an asshole move, since the other players are gonna get dragged into it. But I was really sick of it.
Tumblr media
Hey! A friend that also hates AtoZ!
Tumblr media
Anybody wants Miracle Crystals? -_-
Tumblr media
Someone actually copied my name WTF XD
Tumblr media
Woke up on the 2nd-to-the-last morning to see myself almost out of T100 contention.
Check out my challenge points tho. 8-)
It was time to burn them!
Tumblr media
STOP THE COUNT! STOP THE COU-
Yeah nah fuck you. Count them all.
Tumblr media
Aaaaaand we’re done! I parked at... this score, and I was fairly confident I’d still be in T100. ^^
Tumblr media
...Unfortunately, I woke up the following morning to see that Bestdori projected the cutoff to be at 10.6M. That is waaay too close to 11M for comfort. So I panicked and played some more, even got to Level 230 in the process XD
Eventually the cutoff never really reached 11M, so I guess I didn’t have to? :3
I’d rather regret the extra effort though, than potentially lose T100 standing.
Tumblr media
Now we’re done. 8-)
Just waiting for the event to end!
Tumblr media
AAAND EVENT OVER! *victory fanfare*
Tumblr media
LOL one of the T10′s got banned. Don’t cheat, kids.
Tumblr media
IT’S HEEEEREEEEE

Psycho Analysis: Hol Horse
Tumblr media
(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)
So last year I thought it was a good idea to try and review all of the enemy Stand users in Stardust Crusaders in a totally random order. The results were… mixed. Some of them I think came out okay, but others? Not so much. One of them was just an entire backhanded attack against some guy who decided to say “No one likes your analyses” because I think ProJared was a creep. It was, quite frankly, a mess, and I never bothered to revisit it and never thought I would, even though I still hadn’t covered the glorious, wonderful human being who is Hol Horse.
Well, now, after playing Heritage for the Future and All-Star Battle as well as just becoming a bit more knowledgeable on JJBA, I’ve decided to not only give Hol Horse his dues, but also at least briefly go back over or cover the other Stand users and give them a rating or an updated rating, as the case may be. So buckle in, this is gonna be a long one, and it’s all gonna start with everyone’s favorite incompetent henchman.
Hol Horse is probably one of the most amazing characters Araki has ever created. Hol Horse is in possession of a powerful Stand, The Emperor, which is literally a magical gun that fires bullets he can control the trajectory of. By all accounts, Hol Horse should be the single most dangerous foe that the Crusaders face, more than even Vanilla Ice. This guy should be able to shoot them all dead without a second thought! There’s just one tiny little caveat:
Hol Horse is a fucking moron.
This man is cowardly, incompetent, and just the punching bag of cruel misfortune as all his plans constantly go awry and he is constantly knocked on his ass. And yet, Hol Horse is still the most beloved enemy Stand User of Stardust Crusaders, and it’s not hard to see why. Because despite all of his bumbling, Hol Horse just oozes a sort of cool you just don’t see every day.
(For best results, listen to this the whole time while reading the following).
Motivation/Goals: Hol Horse is one of the few henchmen of DIO who is motivated purely by his own greed… at least, at first. Eventually he has his ass handed to him one too many times, and he decides to try and assassinate DIO. This goes about as well as you’d expect, and Hol Horse – not just part of it, the ENTIRE Horse – is so scared out of his mind that he decides, yep, loyalty to DIO is the way to go! It doesn’t work out, but hey, he tried, right?
Performance: Imami Williams gives Hol Horse that raspy, American charm he needs in the anime adaptation. With his voice and the animation combined, we get to see our favorite smarmy sharpshooter who can’t shoot for shit shoot his shot and miss every time, and it is simply glorious.
Final Fate: Hol Horse kidnaps Boingo and forces him to work with him to finally get his revenge! With the prophetic skills of Thoth and the raw damage that can be done with Emperor, there’s no way they could lose! And yet, as is always the case with Thoth, things go horrendously awry and Hol Horse, despite having the ability to control the trajectory of his bullets, ends up shooting himself and knocking him out of part 3 for good.
Best Scene: Really, just the entirety of the episodes where he teams up with Boingo, especially when he tries holding up Polnareff. Considering what comes after and what came before it, it’s just the dose of lighthearted fun needed before you watch all of your favorite characters get brutally murdered by DIO and Vanilla Ice,.
Best Quote: There is only one line it could be, and it’s Hol Horse’s response to Thoth’s suggestion he kick a woman in the neck: “Listen, Boingo... I am the nicest man in the world. I have girlfriends everywhere. I might lie to a woman, but I'll never hit them! It doesn't matter how ugly they are! Because I respect women!”
That’s right, everyone. Hol Horse drinks Respect Women Juice.
Final Thoughts & Score: Hol Horse is simply astounding. The character is such a colossal screwup that he shouldn’t be as good as he is… yet he is. The dude is gifted with the most incredible power imaginable, and yet somehow he is never able to do a goddamn thing with that power! You control where the bullets go, dude! How can you not hit anything?! It’s interesting how his cowardice and lack of motivation makes him a perfect representation of the inverted Emperor tarot card, but hey, tarot motifs are par for the course with the Stand users.
But there’s something charming to how pathetic Hol Horse is. He’s always plying second banana, he’s a dirty coward who turns tail and runs when things aren’t looking good for him, he never wins a single battle, he didn’t even kill the one guy it seemed like he killed… but throughout it all he still has this sort of smarmy charisma to him that makes him impossible to hate. It’s no wonder this guy has girls all over the world, because he is a world-class charmer. There’s also how Hol Horse is just a character who really, really lives by his own personal philosophy – that is to say, he always likes to be #2, never going into a fight without backup. It’s kind of refreshing to see him always stick by this, even to his own detriment; it’s hard to hate a man who’s principled to that degree. And, of course, this man respects women. Good on him.
It helps that Hol Horse’s inexplicable popularity has led to him getting his time to shine in outside media. Heritage for the Future has two versions of him, his regular form and one that partners him with Boingo, and in skilled hands his Emperor finally gets to live up to its deadly potential. And he’s no slouch in his return appearance in All-Star Battle, and what’s more impressive is in that game he is part of the base roster while Joseph and Iggy, two of the main heroes, are relegated to DLC! You heard me right: the bumbling cowboy who did not win a single fight or even come close to it and spent a lot of time shooting himself managed to beat out out two iconic heroes from the same part onto the roster! Horsey Man must be doing something right.
As this video shows, Hol Horse is one of the most influential characters in the JJBA franchise, having helped to shape the franchise going forward and helped to inspire the traits that made beloved characters like Guido Mista, Gyro Zeppeli, and Yoshikage Kira as legendary as they are. Hell, Hol Horse is just so awesome he almost got to be a protagonist, but Araki decided that Horsey was too similar to my favorite big-titty Frenchman, Polnareff. This means Hol Horse never got his time to shine as a hero, and so stayed a villain til the end… but hey, can he really be that sad if he gets a 10/10 on Psycho Analysis?
Actually, maybe he wouldn’t like that. He likes to play second fiddle to others, after all. But I guess that’s just the curse with these JoJo villains who want to not stand out; they always end up being the best and most memorable characters.
Anyway, now that we’ve got the best of the best out of the way, it’s time for...
Psycho Analysis: DIO’s Other Henchmen
I’m just gonna give my brief thoughts on these guys. Most of them are pretty one-note oneshots, but there are a few who rise above that and manage to be something else entirely. These guys were a learning experience for Araki, and his enemy Stand users of the week definitely improved with later parts, with Vento Aureo really cranking it up to 11.
But for now, we’re stuck with these guys.
Gray Fly: I actually stand by my opinion from my original review of him; he’s nothing incredibly memorable, but he’s a solid start to the adventure and he is directly responsible for diverting the journey onto the course it ended up going on. Without him, things would have likely played out far differently. A 5/10 is still a good score for him.
Fake Captain Tenille: He actually gets bumped down to a 2/10, due to my changes in how things are scored. He’s not amusing enough to be in the “So bad it’s good” category of the other 3s, he’s just really lame and forgettable, and he still somehow manages to lose when he has the advantage. What a dweeb.
Forever: If you think the monkey boat fight is dropping in score, you’re mistaken. Forever remains at an 8/10 for being such a delightfully weird curveball that helps set the tone for the franchise to follow.
Devo: One of the weirder playable character choices from Heritage for the Future, and certainly not one I like too much; he’s also a random event that is pretty useful in All-Star Battle’s online campaign, so that’s a good mark for him. If nothing else, he gave a good showing of Polnareff’s skills when under pressure, so… yeah. I think a 5/10 is good enough.
Tumblr media
Rubber Soul: This review I regret because I was backhandedly responding to that guy who weirdly decided to bring up my distaste for ProJared in a review of Arabia Fats and Kenny G. I do mostly stand by what I said; Rubber Soul is one of the more amusing minor foes, if only because of his ridiculous performance as Kakyoin. Still, it really sucks he was just a clone character in Heritage for the Future… put he gets points for  having the iconic cherry-licking as a taunt. 6/10 is where he remains.
Tumblr media
J. Geil: Again, my opinion hasn’t changed: J. Geil is a mountain of wasted potential, but at the very least he makes for a good antagonist for his brief appearance and hey, he’s the one who helped bring us the beautiful hunk of man that is Hol Horse, so I’d feel bad giving him less than a 7/10.
Tumblr media
Nena: I honestly think Nena is one of the most boring Stand users of the part, which is sad because her episode gives Joseph the spotlight. She’s just really gross and uninteresting, and you’ll likely forget her after her episode is over. 2/10.
Tumblr media
ZZ: ZZ is not particularly great, and his design is just there to be a joke, but it’s hard to totally hate a guy who manages to roll references to Christine, Duel, and the album cover for Eliminator by his namesake into one. I think he’s more of a 4/10, but probably on the higher end there. He’s not great, but he has enough going for him to keep me from hating him.
Tumblr media
Enya: So if I thought that J. Geil was a waste of potential, I feel this even more so for his mother Enya. Despite being hyped up as this big, intimidating right-hand woman to DIO early on, she gets one appearance where her Stand is defeated by Star Platinum pulling a power out his ass and then is unceremoniously killed by Steely Dan of all people. I will give her this: her interactions with Polnareff are absolutely hilarious. But when all you have going for is some jokes, don’t be surprised when you end up with a 6/10, which you’re pretty much only getting because even despite the mountains of wasted potential you’re really not that bad.
Tumblr media
She do be looking hot in the OVA tho.
Tumblr media
Steely Dan: My opinion is unchanged; he’s a solid 7/10 oneshot douchebag. Nothing more, nothing less. His level in the PS1 game seriously blows, though.
Tumblr media
Arabia Fats: I was too hard on this guy. While I meant everything I said, and his episode is boring filler, does it really make him a bottom of the barrel all-time worst villain? No. It just makes him a crappy joke character. 2/10.
Mannish Boy: I regret not getting to this guy last time, because aside from Forever he’s probably one of the most insane Stand user of the part, seeing as he is an infant. Like, he’s just an evil baby who can kill people in their dreams. And he gets defeated by being force fed his own crap. Much like Forever, it’s fun to speculate where exactly DIO found this guy; did he just go to a nursery and start jabbing babies with the Stand arrow? Did he meet this guy at a Cairo night club? What exactly is Mannish Boy’s origin? He’s just so utterly and hilariously inexplicable. He’s definitely a 7/10; he doesn’t quite have the shock factor that Forever did before him, but let’s not pretend an evil talking baby Stand user isn’t one hell of a weird twist.
Tumblr media
Cameo: This guy really lives up to his name; his Stand is the one that gets the most screentime, with the actual Stand user being relegated to a – you guessed it – cameo appearance at the end of the fight. Thankfully, his Stand is an enjoyable take on jerkass genies and gives a pretty sad and disturbing episode that not only features my man Polnareff, but also marks the point where Avdol returns and brings “Hell 2 U!” I think he deserves at least a 7/10, even if this is mainly for Judgment. Still, a Stand is a representation of the user’s soul, so I think it works out.
Here’s the Stand:
Tumblr media
And here’s the man behind it:
Tumblr media
Midler: Midler is one of the single most interesting characters from the pre-Egypt half of Stardust Crusaders, and is the point where Stand users really started to get interesting. Her Stand, High Priestess, has a really funky and unique design, and her battle serves as the final roadblock before the Crusaders arrive in Egypt. Despite never appearing onscreen, with only her unconscious body being shown at the end of the fight in a way that obscures her, she got to appear in Heritage for the Future with an awesome sexy belly dancer design and a badass moveset that makes her a really fun character to play as. Taking everything into account, I think she just barely scrapes into the bottom of the 8/10 pool, though really this is mainly for her playable appearance.
Tumblr media
N’Doul: My opinions really haven’t changed on him. He’s still an 8/10.
Oingo & Boingo: These guys are, in a word, hilarious. In between the grueling, brutal fight with N’Doul and the later fights in the part, these guys bring some much needed levity to the proceedings. Oingo gets an entire episode where he just completely bumbles about as he attempts to impersonate Jotaro to assassinate the Crusaders, failing at every turn and only managing to blow himself up in the end. Boingo fares a little better, eventually getting roped in to Hol Horse’s scheme to get some revenge, which leads to one of the funniest episodes of the entire series as Hol Horse and Oingo hold up Polnareff. I think they collectively get an 8/10 for being two of the funniest Stand users in the part. They even get their own unique end credits in the anime (with Hol Horse joining in on the fun when he teams up with Boingo)!
Tumblr media
Anubis: Again, my opinion is unchanged, though I must say him having technically three playable appearances in Heritage for the Future does make me have at least a little more fondness for him. Black Polnareff, Chaka, and Khan are all amusing characters to play as and all have some awesome theme music. Introducing the concept of Stands being able to exist independently of their Original user is pretty neat, as well as the idea of a Stand that can switch users like it does. 7/10 is still what I’d give it, but I think that it’s pretty telling that this is probably the “weakest” character in the Egypt arcs in terms of being a villain, and yet he’s still pretty cool.
Tumblr media
Mariah: Completely unchanged. She still deserves an 8/10, because her episode is hilarious, her playable appearance in Heritage for the Future is a blast, and she’s just really frikkin’ hot. I’m not gonna lie, she’s probably my second favorite enemy Stand user out of the Egyptian ones. I may or may not want her to step on me.
Tumblr media
Alessi: I’m going to be honest here: Alessi is my favorite of the Egyptian Stand users. He’s an ax crazy coward with pedophile undertones who is just an utterly demented and sick individual with a seriously intriguing Stand that de-ages its victims. It’s a damn shame he never crossed paths with Joseph and de-aged him, but when he’s just such a hilarious and hateable lunatic with an incredibly fun playable appearance in Heritage for the Future (complete with awesomely creepy theme music!) it’s hard for me to give Alessi anything less than a 9/10. Attaboy!
Tumblr media
Daniel J. D’Arby: My opinion is honestly unchanged, but I think I’d bump him down to an 8/10.
Pet Shop: Again, unchanged really. It’s hard to give a character as busted as he is in Heritage for the Future anything less than a 9/10 any way you slice it.
Telence T. D’Arby: Opinion unchanged, 8/10. I don’t have much else to say here, besides Xander Mobus rocks.
Kenny G: See Arabia Fats above. I got irrationally mad over a dumb joke character. He’s not going above a 2/10, but he’s not worth really getting mad about.
Vanilla Ice: I still think he’s the only enemy Stand user besides Hol Horse who deserves his 10/10. My opinion of him remains unchanged, but I would like to say he’s easily one of my favorite characters to play as in All-Star Battle.
Tumblr media
Nukesaku: Ok, he’s not an enemy Stand user, he’s just some weird vampire… zombie… thing. Still, I feel he’s at least worth briefly mentioning, if only because he’s probably the only easily-defeated joke villain Araki did from the first three parts who is particularly memorable. Wired Beck and Doobie are really not all that memorable, but Nukesaku at least elicits a few chuckles – he even gets cameos in Heritage for the Future as well as getting to be a stage hazard in All-Star Battle. For what he is, I think he deserves a 5/10.
Tumblr media
And with all these enemies taken care of, that just leaves one more Stand user to talk about.. one whose Psycho Analysis has been sitting in my drafts for a year now...

“Yo, Hyejoo. Wanna join for some Mario Kart tonight?”
“Sorry, Hyun. I’m kinda busy tonight. Maybe another time?”
“Gang Beasts tonight? Sooyoung’s joining, too.”
“I’m not in the mood. Sorry. Maybe another time?”
“Hyejoo. Come join us for some Rainbow Six.”
For once, Hyejoo is interested, but there’s a blank document in front of her and its paired midnight deadline convinced her not to play.
“Sorry, Soo. I have a paper due at midnight. Next time?” The college student genuinely wishes she didn’t procrastinate this bad.
I know it looks this way, but the three sisters aren’t that distant with each other. After Sooyoung and Hyunjin left for university, they didn’t see each other as often, but still bonded through online gaming.
It all started when they were younger. Sooyoung had granted Hyunjin the responsibility of taking care of her Nintendogs when she went to a summer camp. Usually Hyejoo, too young to play, would sit next to her and sometimes they switched off taking care of the Sharpei they virtually adopted.
As they grew up, their tastes for video games changed as well. Sooyoung mostly grew out of them, having to take care of her younger siblings and started pursuing dancing. Of course, during college, she wouldn’t hesitate to join in party games, like Just Dance and trivia games. Hyunjin became a sports star, but still played video games. She enjoyed low-stress, life simulation games, but also occasionally played FIFA with her teammates.
Hyejoo had a funny relationship with extracurricular activities. Growing up, she was always dragged into watching her sisters’ dance recitals or soccer games, so she tended to have low energy. She tried dance and soccer and actually showed potential in both hobbies, but had no interest or motivation in either. By the time she was in high school, she only continued what she enjoyed, which was just playing video games. She specifically enjoyed shooting and battle royale games, but she could play anything.
As both Sooyoung and Hyunjin transitioned into university and adult life, they tried their best keeping in touch with their youngest sister. When video calls became awkward, Hyunjin brought up the idea of playing Mario Kart online together and talking through Discord. Sooyoung had to go buy herself a Switch and Hyejoo didn’t like the idea of spending more than 30 minutes talking to her sisters, but the experience was a pleasant surprise. The two older siblings couldn’t help enjoying the serotonin boost they would get when hearing competitive Hyejoo screaming and threatening them with embarrassing secrets from the past when Hyunjin threw a Blue Shell or Sooyoung Bullet Bill-ed past her. An hour passed and Hyunjin was ready to log out, but couldn’t resist it when Hyejoo asked, “One more round?”
The gaming continued when Hyejoo went to university. Even though it wasn’t their style, the three of them would play whatever was popular and multiplayer, whether it be PUBG or Smash.
Eventually, scheduling time to play with Hyejoo was a little unsuccessful. In her last year of university, she became busy with school and actually became more social. You could catch her playing intramural soccer or at the dance studio. She was even dating someone and worked at a nearby bakery. Hyejoo could’ve made time for her siblings, but replaying the same courses and campaigns for hours wasn’t stimulating enough for her.
Tonight’s a little different. It’d been nearly 2 months since she spoke to her sisters and Gowon was scolding her to spend time with them. Even though her computer was starting to run slow, she downloaded the new zombie game Sooyoung mentioned and logged onto her Discord account.
“Nice of you to finally join us, Hyejoo.” Sooyoung naturally scolds her first.
“I know. I thought you were going to abandon us.” Hyunjin spoke in a higher tone and it made Hyejoo cringe.
“Stop being fucking dramatic, Soo. I’m busy with school.”
Hyunjin scoffs. “You’re busy dating your Minecraft girlfriend. I see you online.”
Hyejoo scowls. She turns around, making sure said girlfriend wasn’t in the room. “She’s my real girlfriend, too, you know?”
Sooyoung just chuckles. “I’ll see it when I believe it. When are you introducing her to mom and dad?”
“I don’t know. Maybe during the next holiday?”
“Can you bring some snacks from your work?” Hyunjin shoves herself in front of the camera, as if trying to corner her little sister.
“Hyun, that’s not important.”
“What's more important than bread?”
“Kim Jiwoo. That’s what’s more important than bread.”
Hyejoo pinches the bridge of her nose. This was why she didn’t like talking to her sisters for more than 30 minutes.
“As if, Sooyoung. Jeon Heejin is more superior than Jiwoo, but bread is always on top.”
“You say that now, once you get married, you’re going to change your minds.”
There are two gunshots.
“Hye! Why’d you shoot us?! We’re on the same team?”
“Can you two simps shut up? I just sacrificed 6 gigabytes of space to play this game with you two.”
To Hyejoo’s surprise, Hyunjin’s avatar punches her character and Sooyoung takes her out with a headshot. Hyejoo’s about to seek revenge until Sooyoung starts talking again.
“Yah. I’ve seen your Instagram story posts. Once you two get together, you’re gonna be whipped for her, too. It’s in the Ha genetics.”
“For fucks sake, I am dating Gowon! And why would anyone be proud of being whipped?” Hyejoo starts shooting at her sisters but they run away from the lobby before starting a campaign.
It always starts with small talk. It usually consists of their jobs, what they’re doing on the weekends, and each other’s girlfriends. Hyejoo liked hearing from her sisters, but she couldn’t help but feel a little pathetic hearing about their numerous plans while she just wanted to get through school. Conversations like this is where they found out that Sooyoung became a manager at a well known dance school. The last time they talked, Hyunjin was talking about taking Heejin to Disneyland. Hyejoo was slightly jealous because she wants to spoil Gowon, too, but with the minimum wage she’s earning, she can only afford the new gaming mouse Gowon wanted.
Like always, she’ll just listen. Listen and shoot. Maybe she’ll learn a new lesson from the mistakes her sisters laugh about, but she’s too busying carrying the team for the most part.
The three have just finished a round when Hyunjin asks for a break so she can eat. Hyejoo checks her phone to see a few texts from Gowon.
Sooyoung opens a conversation. “Hey guys, I need to tell you something.”
“Go right ahead,” Hyejoo says before chugging some water. Hyunjin just hums before biting into some pasta that Heejin brought in about 15 minutes ago.
“I haven’t told mom and dad, yet because we’re still thinking about it,” Sooyoung takes a deep breath, “Jiwoo and I want to try for a kid.”
Hyejoo stops looking at her phone. She stares at Sooyoung through the screen. “Oh damn. Really?”
Sooyoung offers a smile. Hyejoo can’t help but soften up at the honey dripping out of her sister’s eyes. “Yeah. She keeps talking about how cute her students are so I brought up the conversation. We’re gonna start going to fertilization clinics and adoption centers to see our options. I don’t think anything’s going to happen in the coming year or two, but I just wanted to let you guys know.” She sighs. “I’m kinda excited actually.”
“Congrats, unnie!” Hyunjin lets out a chuckle. “The idea of a little Jiwoo running around and doing taekwondo flips sounds adorable.”
Sooyoung whines. “What about a little Th-ooyoungie dancing in the living room?”
“Don’t ever use that fucking voice again.” Hyejoo grimaces in disgust.
Hyunjin didn’t spare a pause for disagreement. “I second that.” Sooyoung never used aegyo so it was slightly unbearable hearing that.
“Whatever.” Sooyoung sighs. “It’s just— it’s kinda surreal thinking about having a kid.”
Hyejoo also agrees. Maybe it’s because she’s looking forward to building her career or the fact that she doesn’t know where to begin in taking care of a kid that the idea of her own children seems foreign. She’s thought about adopting a dog, but a human being?
Hyunjin asks Sooyoung about the logistics, like the future of their current jobs and who would carry the child if they decided to not adopt.
Hyejoo listens, but her mind gets clouded thinking about a little Sooyoung or Jiwoo running around and giggling and maybe even playing with a little controller. Hyunjin will compete to be the favorite aunt, but she’ll share with Heejin. She knows Gowon will be a better aunt than her, but she still wants to be a part of that kid’s life. Even though she wasn’t the most active, she wants to take that future kid to the park and kick a ball around and teach them pranks.
The idea warmed Hyejoo’s heart.
For a second, Hyejoo zones back into the conversation. Sooyoung eggs Hyunjin about finishing dental school so she can start her own family, too.
Then it hits Hyejoo.
It’ll still be in the far future, but maybe she needs to grow up a little more. There’s going to be little Sooyoung and soon enough there will be a little Hyunjin.
Hyejoo needs to stop cursing. Maybe she needs to go home more and keep her parents company. She’ll learn how to cook something besides instant ramen and fried rice.
Things are going to be different. They’re all growing up. Sooyoung’s moving up positions. Hyunjin is going to finish dental school. Hyejoo was going to graduate soon.
Hyejoo was more than used to being away from her family during the school year, but then it hits her.
The two neighboring rooms back home were going to be empty. Her two sisters are eventually going to stop coming home for holidays.
The three of them are not going to play video games.
It’ll no longer be just the three of them.
Hyejoo let’s that sink in a little. The days of shooting zombies and racing around Nintendo tracks and visiting each other’s islands will significantly lesson.
The maknae suddenly feels guilty of declining all those game requests. Although all reasons were valid, she feels like she should’ve made more time for her sisters.
She hears Hyunjin whining at something Sooyoung said. Hyejoo flinches a smile, remembering how fifteen years ago, they were bullying each other at the playground.
Some things didn’t change.
And maybe some things still won’t change.
The future is uncertain and maybe she shouldn’t think too much about it.
At least she has the present. She can still play with her sisters now. She can play with them next week, next month.
“Hye? Are you okay? You’ve been pretty quiet.”
Hyejoo tried to think of a snarky comeback, but couldn't think of anything. Surprisingly, her ego doesn’t get to her and just comes clean. “Yeah. I’m just thinking about a little Sooyoung. It’s kinda cute actually. Congrats, Soo.”
Her two older sisters just stare at her through the camera. “Wow. It must be late. Hyejoo’s being nice. Let’s just do one more round and call it a night.”
Hyejoo scoffs. She wants to curse, but holds herself back.
-
“You guys down for a few rounds of Smash?”
“Sounds good. Is Hye joining?”
Hyejoo puts down her phone. “Gowonnie.” She nudges the girl next to her. They were watching a variety show together while snuggling.
Gowon just hums, a little engrossed in the show.
“I’m gonna go play with my sisters. Is that okay?”
Her girlfriend just smiles and rolls her eyes. “Why do you even ask? You know I’m going to say yes.”
Hyejoo doesn’t want to admit that she just wants to be chummy. “If you had plans in mind, I was just going to reschedule.”
Gowon just shrugs. “I mean I’m craving fried chicken, but that’s not worth rescheduling.” She then shoves Hyejoo off of her. “Go.”
The younger one grumbles, but makes her way to their gaming room.
As she turns on the light, she admires the room they have created. On one side, her girlfriend has a pastel setup. It contrasts her black black setup.
An idea finally sparks in her head. She walks back outside and peaks back into their small living room.
“Gowonnie, do you want to join us?”
--
“Are you really her girlfriend?”
“Of course she’s my girlfriend. She wouldn’t have been playing with us for the past hour if we’re not dating.” Hyejoo puts her head on Gowon’s shoulder. Hyunjin and Sooyoung are entertained by their little sister’s webcam showing an abandoned chair while Gowon’s webcam showed Hyejoo being soft and protective of a bright and rather crunchy lady.
“She’s not paying you with credits or diamonds or something?”
Gowon giggles. “That sounds like a better bargain.” She turns to her girlfriend and pats her head. “I’m tired of carrying you. Starting next month, I’m expecting 2,000 Battle Points or I’m going to stop doing your laundry.”
Hyunjin chokes on her water. Sooyoung’s jaw dropped.
Hyejoo pouts. “Park Chaewon.”
“Wow. I like her already. I think mom will like her, too.”
“How did you meet such a nice person, Hye? She’s pretty, too. I didn’t know you had it in you.”
Gowon smiles. “Thank you. It’s nice to know Hyejoo’s siblings are nice.” She turns to Hyejoo. “You should learn something from your sisters. Forget it. I’m upping the payment to 4,000 Battle Points.”
Hyejoo pouts and gives a quick peck on Gowon’s cheek. “Can I pay you with love instead?”
Hyunjin gags. “I don’t know if I’ll get used to this.”
“She got that from you, Hyun. Don’t deny it.” Sooyoung scolds her younger sister.
“You’ve been dating, Jiwoo-unnie longer! She got that from you!”
Gowon giggles. Hyejoo can’t help, but admire her girlfriend. She pleased how well things were coming along.

Hell Hath No Fury - An Invitation (part 2)
The car ride starts off just like any other car ride between two people who don't know each other but now have to spend the next two hours together: quiet and awkward.
After a few minutes of tense silence, I decide to muster up the confidence I had right before we started our drive back. Luckily, charging head long into conversations in potentially uncomfortable situations is something I'm great at.
"So, how long have you known those guys?" I ask.
He looks at me quickly before shifting to lean against the door. His eyes are fixated out the window as he replies "Coco, man I don't even know how long. Feels like forever though. And EZ, I've known him since he was born."
"Brothers?" I inquire.
"Yeah but I got the better genes in the family 'cuz clearly I'm the sexier one" he says as he lays his hand on his chest in emphasis.
"Well I was just gonna say that, obviously. Poor EZ must have had such a hard time growing up with a GQ cover model as a brother," I laugh.
He seems more at ease too, "You say that like a joke, but we both know I'm fine."
I shake my head and chuckle and we return back to the previous state of silence.
"So..." he begins, apparently feeling like it's his turn to break the tension, "how long have you worked for Pena? I haven't seen you around much before."
"You make it a habit to know all of the Mayor's staff?" I start to joke. "But no, I've been here about six months now."
"What is it you do for her exactly?" He asks, his interest seemingly genuine.
"I basically oversee all her staff. Handle the day to day stuff, coordinate things for her, advise her on things. I'm pretty much her right hand." The answer never changes but the more I have to explain it, the more boring it sounds.
"So she says jump and you say..." he starts off before I jump in.
"I say 'how high? Through which hoop? Have you considered what me jumping through this hoop will do for re-election? Have you considered how jumping over skipping may impact our optics?'" I rattle on.
His eyes widen a second as he processes what I'm sure is my alarmingly unpolished personality. "How'd you get into working here?" he fires off another question.
"Well, in college I majored in Political Science. My dad got me into politics at a young age. I tried on a bunch of different majors: Nursing, English, hell, even Philosophy, but none of them kept my interest and I'd find myself debating constitutional rights and policy with the weird school protestors. After I graduated, I did a fellowship program up in Sacramento in the Capitol. From there I headed up the campaign for a Congressman and when he won election he brought me on as his Communications Director in DC. Shortly after that, he made me his Chief when his other one crashed and burned." I explain.
"Is the money good?" He asks
"Growing up my dad always told me 'you can do anything for money but if you spend 40 years of your life doing something you hate, you will never be happy.' But that being said, no, the money doesn't suck for the most part. I took a huge pay cut coming from DC to here, but I'm happier. Or at least I think I am." I tell him
"So why aren't you in DC?" He prompts further.
"That's a long, complicated story. Anyways, what about you? Are bar fights your favorite hobby?" I ask, hoping he'll gloss over me trying to change the subject.
"Not always," he says, "but sometimes people piss me the fuck off".
"So you're a hot head" It's not a question, but a statement.
"I like to think I'm just a passionate guy." He jokes.
"Ok, hot head" I laugh.
The rest of the ride, the tension dissipates. The conversation remains light; I talk a little bit about college and some of the things I've seen and done in DC, and he tells me bits and pieces of his story in return, neither of us delving into anything serious or heavy.
We work our way back into Santo Padre and he starts to guide me to wherever it is I need to drop him off.
"So where is it that I'm taking you?" I ask.
"The scrapyard. Bish will probably want to see you again, you know, to say thanks and all that" he tells me.
"That's fine" I tell him.
We eventually pull up into the scrapyard, which based on the signs is called "Romero Brothers Scrap & Salvage". I park and Angel and I both exit the car.
"This way." He indicates as he sets off to the main doors.
We walk in and see everyone dispersed around the room. EZ is behind the bar that Coco is sitting at, while Bishop and Taza are casually talking to other members on the couch.
"Hey Prez, we're back." Angel interjects when their conversation seems to hit a lull.
Bishop looks up and sees us both, stands up, and walks over to us.
"Glad to see you in one piece, Angel" He slaps his hand down on Angel's back twice. "And Lennon, thanks again for doing this for us.' He says earnestly.
"It was no trouble at all, my pleasure really. It's not every day you get to be on the inside of Fight Club" I smile, hearing Angel suck his teeth and bite back a retort.
"Coco says you scared the piss out of the badges." Bishop says, sounding amused.
"They got under my skin. When people get under my skin, my mouth runs faster than my brain can filter. The results are always amusing for someone, not always amusing for me though" I smirk.
"Sounds like you and Angel have that in common" Bishop says, a smile on his face.
"Seems so. Only I have the common sense to use my mouth and not my fists." I wink at Angel.
"I bet you do." Angel catches the innuendo I inadvertently made.
Rolling my eyes, I look back at Bishop who is now flanked by Taza.
"ANYWAYS," I sarcastically emphasize, "it was a pleasure helping you guys out." I tell the two leading members.
"Thanks again" Bishop nods, he starts to turn away before quickly facing me again. "We're having a get together tonight. You should come so we can express our gratitude properly. There's booze, and we'll even have Angel fight tonight that way you can see what it is that you released back into society." He smirks.
"Yeah, that actually sounds great. I don't get out much since Toni... uh Mayor Pena... is the only person I ever really see. Work is never done, ya know?" I tell them.
"'Toni?' You and the Mayor are tight?" Coco suddenly jumps into the conversation; I was unaware he'd been listening.
"Yeah," I say, pissed at myself for letting that slip. "It's not something I like to broadcast. I'd rather people know I got here on my own merits than thinking I'm just my friends lapdog. I met her during my fellowship." I explain further.
"That one up in Sac, right?" Angel asks without missing a beat.
"That's the one" I smile.
"Angel finally pays attention for once" EZ jokes.
"Tch, shut up, EZ" Angel shoves him.
I'm thoroughly enjoying this interaction, feeling incredibly comfortable in the presence of men who are well documented to be on the other side of the law when I see a black Escalade pull into the scrapyard.
"Seems you guy have some company, let me get out of your hair. I'll see you guys tonight. What time?"  I ask the group.
"Eight O'Clock" EZ tells me.
"Alright, see you then" I smile brightly as I start to turn around. With all the smiling I've done today I thank god my parents invested in good orthodontia work when I was in high school.
"Shit!" I hear one of the men say as I press my hand on the door to swing it open.
As I make my way through the lot back to my car, I see the men start to exit the Escalade, but can really only make out the details of the two closest to me. The man coming from the back is well dressed in what is easily a designer suit. His hair is styled meticulously, and his face is well chiseled. The man next to him has two long braids and even from a distance looks intimidating. As I slide into my car, I make eye contact with them both. I start my car and begin to pull away. Looking in my sideview mirror I can see they are still watching me; it's almost as if they want to ensure I leave. A chill rushes down my spine briefly which causes me to laugh.
I've been in the room with serious power players before, two random men from a tiny city in the middle of nowhere are hardly any threat. I think.

Heartland 13x09 - Fight or Flight review
Tumblr media
So, the episode starts with a wholesome scene of Amy, Ty, Luke & Lyndy playing in the blow up pool with water guns. It’s so wholesome and looks so ideal, yet I know it’s setting up whatever is to come for Luke in this episode.
Oh and hey, we hear that Ty is still helping out with Scott at the clinic, but do we know if he’s still partner since he cut down his hours? Or did he perhaps pass the torch to Cassandra whose there full time?
Also fun fact, I wrote the word major instead of mayor a billion times in this review. But a mayor of a town is kind of like major of a band or army or something? So, apologies if you see the word major a few times haha.
Amy & Spartan
Spartan is still recovering and showing signs of Arthritis. Georgie wants to play horse matchmaker with Amy since Spartan is getting younger, and i’m just glad that it isn’t human matchmaker. Georgie, with Lisa’s permission wants to bring Atlas to Heartland for Amy, but Lisa wisely remembers how Jack reacted with Paint and cautions Georgie to tread lightly. I think it’d be nice to see Jack help/talk to Amy about how she’s feeling seeing as he went through it himself, or even her father Tim since he may have gone through the same thing with his own horse as well.
Amy eventually gives in and tells Georgie she’s not ready but wants her to continue pushing her to get a new horse, which is partly due to her needing a distracting and partly due to her wanting to help. That is, until she notices the wild animal coming up and bonding with Spartan and decides she doesn’t want the perfect horse - just a horse she has a connection or the feeling with like she did with Spartan. It does not go unnoticed that she might’ve been getting flashbacks of taming Spartan when she saw the wild horse approach her. Amy likes a challenge with her horses as opposed to having the perfect horse.
If the seasons ends with Amy taming this new horse with Spartan watching, ‘passing of the torch’ why don’t you - I won’t be mad.
Oh and hey, we also learn that their house has WALLS and a first photo courtesy of Luke for the wall!! Progress y’all and they still have 2 months to winter!
Georgie
Oh and hey Georgie is surprisingly still not over Quinn and she’s off to BC to meet him! From the promo I saw, it shows her telling Quinn that she loves him so... that’s gonna happen. I’m glad that Lou let her go and trusted her to go on her own, plus if there ever is an emergency, her father, Peter is in Vancouver and seemingly a short drive away if she needs a place to stay. Had Georgie asked to go anywhere else, perhaps she might’ve been more hesitant but knowing that she’s going to a province where her father lives might’ve provided a little comfort. Or perhaps she just has so much on her mind she’s didn’t want to fight her on this and knows she needs to trust her since she’s going away to University next year.
Plus... Western Canada isn’t Ontario. You can drive 10 hours and still be in Ontario, but you can drive 10 hours and drive two provinces in the west. I drove 3 provinces in less than 10 hours on East Coast Canada and did a road trip in the West and there is a lot less driving required to go province to province in those areas since you don’t need go to around Lake Ontario :) And there’s your unasked for geography lesson.
Luke
Amy and Ty have a meeting with Clint, having to do with Andrea being on the mend and making tremendous progress, to the point where she can go back to parenting full time. This is great news for Luke - and great news for Andrea, and even for Katie I suppose who might get her own room back even if she’s finally warming up to him.
Speaking of Clint, he’s one of the few non-main character who has been guest-ing since season 1 eh?! Ever since he brought Ty to Heartland in the early days of the show. He did right with Ty and he always has the best intentions (he has too) when it comes to foster kids.
“I’m totally moving up to the loft when you leave, but i’m going to miss you” - Katie for the win
Gifting him the chess set and everyone telling Luke the kind words (ie. you’ll always have a home, come visit anytime, you’ll always have us in our heart) and they complete the chess set showed how much Luke became apart of the family. I have no doubt that everyone was sad to see Luke go - Amy and Ty especially but it was nice to see everyone in the family support him as he goes back home to his mother full time. I was glad that nobody tried to stop him or delay him going back to his family but rather supported him - this is the storyline I wanted to see.
Did the scene of Amy Ty and Lyndy waving goodbye to Luke as he drove away (how cute was Lyndy patting Luke’s hair?) remind you of when it was just Amy standing there when Ty drove away to Mongolia?
THE ELECTION
JD Worth running for election seems to have an impact on everyone in the Heartland family.
Lisa
Oh ayeee, these “cash flow issues” come back up again. Apparently, Lisa tried to solve the issue from last season by having investors bridge the gap... and one of them is... Worth Investments (or something like that), by the one and only JD Worth, Lou’s opponent and now they want Lisa to repay the entire loan immediately. Yikes. This has nothing to do with the election and that her grand daughter is running against him... right? Yeah, likely false. Lisa manages to pay him out and i’m just glad this doesn’t end badly.
Bob/Ty
Bob (via Ty) has a theory about why there has been so much wildlife in the area. Mountain View resorts, who, oh yeah JD IS BEHIND. Due to development, wildlife have fled which is why residents have had cougars/wolves in their backyards and an increase in animal attacks the last couple of days. Yikes, this is a big no and honestly likely the issue to get everyone riled up since everyone loves their animals.
Lou
First of all, it’s kind of hilarious that Tim is seemingly Lou’s new campaign manager, handling her schedule.
Now, I never liked JD but I also didn’t blame him for wanting to modernize and keep Hudson up with the upcoming changes, but him telling Lou what she probably already knows - being mayor requires sacrifice is running thin and that nothings worse than “children with no mother” and berating him for her divorce and that her children have no mother doesn’t look well. I know some of us were on his side of this debate last week but it’s hard to still be on his side after this week.
It also appears that JD is lightly treading the line of threatening, which hey, its probably the reason why all his opponents dropped out. Coincidence that JD happens to threaten to “recommend” to Garland some new pea feed beef (or something), he “pulled out” of a bad investment (Fairfield) and sent a notice to Tim that he couldn’t live in an RV for more than 6 months even on private property (since when is this a law?!). Something tells me that there is a reason why all his opponents dropped out...
Lou initially coups and drops out but after hearing about the wildlife theory below, Lisa, Tim and the “private residence” was caused a health inspection, with Mitch’s encouragement, encourages her to get back into the race. And with one cleverly timed article about how JD Worth’s mountain development has caused the wildlife (MVP FOR BOB!!) seems to tip the scale in Lou’s direction.
And thank god because JD is seen BRIBING some guy to deal with the wild life problem (by killing Wildlife? because that solves everything) so he’s definitely done it for every other thing that miraculously “got solved.” Lou may not be the ideal mayor but also, she is definitely better than him. With him as mayor, nothing is safe.
Does anyone else have the feeling that bribe guy might tell all to the press based on the look on his face when he saw JD didn’t pay him the full amount? Maybe he’s secretly a wildlife lover and doesn’t want to kill them? I mean, there’s no way the season ends with JD winning (think: poacher) so the question is how they make him lose/reveal the bribing.
Oh and...
Mitch
Mitch is mad that Lou didn’t tell him about running for mayor but Mitch didn’t also run turning their vacation property into a business (and seemingly moving away full time). And hey Mitch? Lou literally didn’t tell anyone she was thinking of running for mayor. Literally no one. She just stood up in the stands and announced it so it’s not just you. Don’t feel left out. No one was part of her decision really, except her.
PLUS, where the heck are Lou’s face all over these posters because so far all I’ve seen are JD’s! Lou, you need to step up your poster game. How is she allowing JD’s face to be across the diner & no posters of her?!

starstruck (4)
Here it is... finally! It’s ~angsty~ but it was really fun to write.
I will say, I realized while writing this that the timeline of this fic is sooooo short but hey, its fiction, so I guess anything can happen lol. I tried to resolve it in later chapters but it’s definitely quick moving in these initial chapters.
There’s a lot of italics in this one lol
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9
Fandom: Thomas Stanley Holland
Ship: Tom Holland x Reader (eventual)
Setting: LA in general
Word Count: 2240 yeet
Warnings: angst, some mild language
Rating: still k+ right now
Last time on starstruck...
“Hey what’s going on? Uh huh. No, we actually have it handled. I might or might not be with her right now… no it’s fine. Seriously, we are laying low! We’re on the way to the hotel right now. Alright, alright I’ll see what I can do. See you in a few.”
And with that, he hung up, turned to you, and said, “That was my manager. Apparently we’ve got a problem.”
                            __________________________________
You pulled underneath the awning of the posh hotel Tom was boarding at, the kind of place you only dreamed of staying.
Sure, your family wasn’t poor, but your parents definitely weren’t the type of people to spend a lot of money on hotels. They claimed to enjoy spending more money on the “fun” parts of vacations than where you slept at night.
To each their own, you supposed.
Tom wanted you to come inside, per request of his manager, so you figured you would drop him off and park so you wouldn’t be seen together.
The valet had other plans, however, pulling you out of the car and exchanging your keys with a numbered slip of paper.
It all happened so fast that for a moment you just stood there, stunned. You snapped out of it when the man began to drive off and Tom grabbed you to lead you inside.
The lobby was massive and covered with marble flooring. A large, plush rug covered many of the tiles and on top of it sat some luxurious couches and armchairs, framing a huge TV on the wall.
On the other side was a long marble counter that seated hotel staff, who stood at the ready upon seeing Tom.
You also couldn’t help but note the smell, a light, sweet floral scent wafting through the air pleasantly.
This must be rich people scent you thought to yourself.
Due to the nature of it being midday, very few people were seen in the lobby, and Tom led you straight through to a hallway and past the main elevators, his hand resting on your lower back the entire time.
“I have access to a service lift so less people will see,” he explained, as if he’d just read your confused mind.
You walked briskly with Tom through the winding hall, finally ending up at the alternate elevator, where he swiped his key card and the doors slid open with a few creaks.
You tapped your foot nervously as you passed floor by floor, letting go of a breath you didn’t realize you were holding upon reaching the top.
Once again, you followed behind Tom through the hall and to his room. You stood awkwardly in the doorway, clenching onto the straps of your beach bag, as he entered to find more suitable clothing.
After disappearing for a moment, he popped his head back out.
“You can come in, you know. This might take a few minutes.”
You stepped further into his suite, making your way to the sliding doors attached to a balcony. Looking out you could see Los Angeles in full light, the people and cars below feeling so out of reach, like nothing you had ever experienced in your city.
You seemed so out of place in the heavily decorated room still in beach clothing and legs covered in sand.
You could hear Tom rummaging through the drawers and walked over, giving a gentle knock on the open door.
“Having trouble, twinkle toes?” you joked at the way he pillaged through his clothes. He smiled at your commentary.
“Maybe a bit. Do you need anything? A drink, snack? The fridge is stocked so take anything you like.”
You were surprised at his generosity and at how little he cared about paying for that stuff. In your family, everything in the hotel room was off limits if it wasn’t free.
“I think I’m good but do you mind if I use your restroom? I really need to rinse this sand off and put on some real clothes.”
“Go right ahead,” he gestured to the bathroom door.
The bathroom was also massive, especially for a hotel. The shower thankfully had a handheld spray head so you were able to just target and rinse your legs. You tugged on some athletic shorts and a loose tank top to replace your former garments.
You quickly used the toilet too and went to wash your hands, not believing how many fancy soaps and lotions covered the counter.
As you lathered, a small bottle caught the corner of your eye. It was a light yellowish color and read “OBSESSION for men.”
Of course he would wear Calvin Klein cologne. Now I know.
You finished up and made a final once over in the mirror, fixing some stray hairs in your ponytail and opening up the door.
You stopped in your tracks as your eyes laid upon Tom, who was shirtless with his back to you, the elastic of his underwear poking out of his pants’ waistline.
“You’re a pretty big fan of Calvin Klein, huh?” you asked, referring to both the cologne and his boxers. He turned around, giving you a view of his bare chest, which didn’t disappoint, a fact that you pretended was annoying.
“Hah, yeah. I really want to do an ad campaign with them if you couldn’t tell,” he bent over to pick up a shirt from the bed and toss it on.
“Well with the cologne and underwear you’re pretty much a walking billboard.”
“You like the cologne?” he asked, causing your face to heat up. You knew a blush was present and probably obvious, so you decided not to lie.
“Yeah, actually I do. It’s a nice scent. It also happens to be all over my bed right now thanks to a certain someone,” you tipped down your chin and raised an eyebrow accusingly.
“You want it? The company actually sent me like… eight bottles and a bunch of clothes not too long ago after I posted on Instagram about them. I can’t get rid of them fast enough,” he offered, walking towards you.
“What? No! I couldn’t just take that from you. What would I tell my friends when they see men’s cologne bottle in my room? I can’t say ‘oh yeah Tom Holland gave it to me’ and it would be majorly out of character to tell everyone that it’s what you wear.”
He went past you into the bathroom and rummaged through a toiletry bag, muttering an “aha!” when he pulled out another bottle identical to the one on the counter, except this was sealed and full.
“Seriously Tom I can’t just tak-” you started when he dropped the bottle into your bag.
“Whoops,” he quipped, “no take backs. Now your bed can forever smell like me”
You were ready to argue again (with an undeniable smile on your face) when there was a loud rapping on the main door.
Tom grimaced at you to wordlessly send a message of ‘prepare yourself’ as he took a deep breath in and headed out of his bedroom. You silently followed into the living room and watched Tom open the door, where a well dressed man and woman pair stood talking.
                            __________________________________
At first you and Tom together discussed the plan you had made at the beach with his manager and publicist, neither of whom seemed to like the idea very much.
They asked to speak with Tom privately, so you relocated back into the bedroom and sat on the side of his bed, reminiscing on how the roles were almost reversed compared to only two evenings prior.
You were only in there for about ten minutes, but it seemed like hours. You were too anxious to mess with your phone and instead looked out his window.
There was a quiet knock on the door before Tom opened it. You recognized the steely look in his eyes and the way his jaw was clenched.
He motioned for you to come out, and almost immediately after stepping into the living room his manager started talking to you.
“So, y/n, right? I’m gonna have to give this to you straight. You cannot be seen with my client ever again,” she stated bluntly, “it’s nothing against you, of course, but Tom here needs to maintain a ‘single’ rep until this movie is no longer in theatres and frankly you’re jeopardizing the whole thing.”
Your eyebrows shot up and you weren’t happy to hear this woman’s feigned criticisms.
“I’m sorry, but Tom is the one who sought me out. I never liked him, you could ask any person who knows me and they would tell you the same. I’m only here because Tom asked me to meet him about getting rid of this whole ‘scandal’ or whatever you want to call it. So if anyone is jeopardizing Tom, it’s himself.”
The publicist took a step forward.
“Look, miss y/n, it’s really nothing against you, we just want to maintain his image, and the best way to do so would be for us to go online and tell everyone he helped you get medical attention for an injury, which we all know is true, and end it at that. It makes Tom look like a hero, and you’ll be popular for weeks with your peers I’m sure,” he explained, angering you further.
“I never asked for this. I don’t want attention. I don’t want the world, or more importantly my best friend, to find out I’ve been lying about the guy I used to hate. Do you realize how many rumors this will fuel? This is ridiculous and I can’t allow you to put out my information like this.”
“Oh, well. Too bad. I just sent the tip to TMZ and they’re posting the story tonight,” he replied, “and Tom is going live on Instagram at 4:00 to address it the way we told him to and you two can’t be seen together again. Text all you want like you have been, but no public contact. Unless of course we want to do a ‘girl saved by hero reunites with him’ thing. Oh man would that look so good-”
“I’m done. This is so sick. Tom,” you looked directly into his eyes, “never contact me again, you disgusting cheap sellout bastard,” you spat, a fire in your own eyes like nothing anyone had ever seen from you.
“Y/n I-“ he began, but you were already heading to the door. You could hear footsteps behind you and the door slam shut but you kept power walking towards the main elevators, hoping they were the opposite direction from which you and Tom initially came.
“Wait!” he cried out, finally catching up and grabbing your elbow.
You threw his hand off but stopped moving forward and instead spun around to face him. Tears had made their way down your cheeks by now and you weren’t any happier to be so vulnerable in front of Tom.
Never in your life did or expect the next (or even last) guy you’d cry over would be Tom Holland.
“Y/n, please listen,” he pleaded, his face was also red, as if he were going to cry himself. You stood firm and gave him an expectant glare, so he continued.
“I don’t want to do this, I really don’t. Please understand that I have to, though, no matter how much this hurts. We can still talk. I was so drawn to you the second I saw you in that crowd just last week and I could’ve never imagined how close you could become in the short amount of time we’ve known each other. Please, babe, I don’t want to lose you.”
Anger flashed inside of you again and you felt your chest tighten at the bomb he’d just dropped..
“Do you really, Tom? Do you really care? Because to me it sounds like you actually have a choice here, but you’re too much of a pushover to do what’s right. If you really cared, you wouldn’t do this to me. I was serious back there. Don’t talk to me again, and definitely don’t call me babe if you do.”
“I’m so, so sorry, y/n,” Tom’s voice finally broke, and you could see the way his lip quivered as he continued, “I’m sorry I ever got you into this mess.”
“Me too,” you whispered.
You wiped more stray tears and turned, looking back one last time into the face of the broken-hearted celebrity, hoping it was the last time you would ever see his face, but knowing it wouldn’t be the end of it.
                            __________________________________
You exited the elevator, which you were glad was empty. More tears had fallen on the journey down and you mustered up everything you could to stop them, at least until you were off the premises of the hotel.
Though knowing you looked like a wreck, you walked through the hotel lobby with head held high, looking straight forward at the large front doors.
Your numbered ticket was in hand and you gladly gave it to the valet so he could pull up your car.
It was getting harder to hold it together as you waited. Finally, he appeared and parked the car in front of you.
He held out the keys and then stood directly in front of you, silently pleading for a tip, even though he could probably see the obvious anguish on your face.
Finally, you gave in, rolling your eyes as you dug through your bag for a spare $5 bill and slapped it into his hand with disdain.
“How kind. Have a nice day, ma’am!” he voiced cheerily.
You fought the urge to flip him off as you sat down in the driver’s seat and began the journey back home, dread filling your stomach the closer home became.

Mun talks about her D&D characters for munday
I thought it’d be fun to let ya’ll hear about them. Also I know a ton of them start with L names, I’m sorry and I don’t know how this happened.
Lokni-Human Blood Hunter (TW: death, demons, sex, child neglect, pregnancy complications) Life goal: To kill Raktos the demon  Campaign: Ravnica
The current favorite of my friends who I’ve played a few games with. Personally I think he has one of the most tragic backstories but I had to give him an intense one cause he has a very dramatic goal. The campaign is set in Ravnica which for those who don’t know is a setting where most things take place in a large city where power is divided by guilds. My child is in the Raktos guild which is the ones who throw parties put on shows, and run the brothels. Thing is they also kinda murder folks alot, live on the idea of viva la anarchy and they do this to keep their guild leader, a massive demon happy so he doesn’t end the world. Now that you’re caught up his story goes as follows. He was born to two parents, things were great, his mom got preggers, she was out with her husband and got dragged into a Raktos show cause they do that, she was injured and basically it became either save her or her unborn child and he insisted on the child. Dad blames the kid for loosing his wife, neglects teh child, Lokni also a child adopts his dad’s mindset being confused and hurt, family friend of mom takes in unwanted child (she is a centaur by the way), Lokni realizes eventually his dad really doesn’t care about him either as dad slips further into insanity about wanting to bring his wife back, Lokni decides to go apologize to bro who instantly forgives to live with centaur mom. Later they are told their dad is dead getting mixed up with the wrong people (however based on hints from the dm I fear he is not dead and also fear when the dm brings him back). His goal as a character is this: He wants to make sure no family ever ends up ripped apart like his so he wants to kill Raktos and put someone else on the throne, not him cause he recognizes he is not emotionally stable enough to run anything. Although originally I was planning on making him more obsessive about his goals and basically become his dad, obsession and hurt drives people to crazy things, but he kinda ended up finding a 16 year old ghost girl in the woods who’s been stuck to possess a knife and basically was like,”well this child clearly has a rough time in life I’m gonna adopt them!” and fatherhood is forcing this man to rethink things cause murdering Raktos=major trouble and he doesn’t want to rip up this new family he’s making so now considering teleporting him away? changing him to be a good person? Yeh it’s getting complicated. OH and he was kind of forced to drink some potion stuff, cause his boss is crazy (she has a ghost choir that she possibly killed everyone there, complete with a kazoo section cause ya boi Lokni on a whim said it needed more kazoos and she listened to him cause he knows music, he plays the spoons and does magic tricks btw as a job, so clearly he knows what he’s talking about) and ye so he is a fox lycanthropy now.
Lapis Lazuil/Laz-Triton, Cleric.  Life goal: Literally be the best monster killer Campaign: Regular D&D 5e
Basically we had a D&D show we were filming at school up until things got too busy with the main show we were producing. This character came before Lokni and we were told,”hey so your characters are monster hunters at this guild but they’ve all kind of been kicked out of their former parties for one reason or another which ya’ll can decide and this is your last chance to stay in the guild.” Me: “cool imma make a triton that hates water, and their a tempest cleric.” Dm: “....why, why are you like this.” Me: “YOU SAID MAKE BAD DECISIONS!” So ye that’s how Laz was made. Her story is that she was adopted by rock genasi. She thinks her parents abandoned her. Truth is they just fell on hard times just before she was born and well couldn’t afford a child so did what they could now trying to find her. So she changed her birth name to be named after a rock like the rest of what she considers her real family. She also has the attitude of the stereotypical highschool cheerleader on disney movies and talks like one too but with a more raspy voice because she is dehydrated, again she hates water because of her hatred for her ‘real family’ and also she genuinely doesn’t like the way it feels,”It’s just liiiike the worst ya know, um like on my skin....yeah so don’t pass out in water or whatever cause like I probs won’t try to heal you....sorry not sorry.” That was literally her first line to the rest of the party. I now use her in one offs and like low key she is alot of fun.
Luc-Pantoran (I forgot the class and the dm still has our character sheets cause thank you virus) Life goal: Clear their name! Campaign: Starwars
So first of all funny thing about this one is that usually I have a gender and voice made pretty early into creating a character. With this person....I did not, like literally I got everything else figured out except these two details so I decided,”You know what! You don’t get either of them!” Their story went like this, they have 12 siblings ok, super rural regular family in the inner planets. All of their siblings are wildly successful and they were average. They knew they couldn’t really succeed like everyone else but hey did find themselves enjoying being a nuisance so basically when asked what they wanted to do with their life they would look up at the adult asking and just go,”Crime.” SO that’s exactly what they did. Once they became an adult they ran off, used sleeping with folks to get what and where they wanted, eventually joined a pirate crew, and life was great. They were so good, and kind of had a thing going with the captain that they became first mate. Pretty recently they realized they didn’t relate to either gender and became non binary, they also are still trying to figure out their voice so it would change rather often. Thing is they got framed for stealing from the captain, and hey they’ve done alot of bad but they HAVE NOT broken trust like that, after all they actually cared about the captain, and for once was considering being just with them instead of sleeping around. Nonetheless they are on the run now trying to clear their name. Their theme as a character is,”hey you know that little voice in your head that tells you not to do something, ye they don’t have that. Just a voice that says, do what ya wanna do pal!”
Clarity-Robot, vault dweller (Tw: death mention, human experimentation, dog experimentation) Life goal: Just see the world Campaign: Fall out
I love this character so much she is a baby however her theme is,”depending on perspectives people can come across as wildly different things.” So If you’ve played fall out no she’s not a Mr. Handy or one of the robots that looks incredibly human like. We decided an amalgamation of the two fit her story better and it was available in the unofficial fall out table top we were playing. She looks humanish, a human like form but with clear casing showing her inner workings and a human mask to try to look  more friendly. She’s got on a little yellow dress on too, very vintage, and with the sweetest most innocent sounding voice. She even travels with a Dalmatian who, as a robot could think of only the most appropriate name to describe her grizzled hound, Spot. As for fighting one arm can transform into a flame thrower and the other into a chain saw. Also as a robot she can not go against programming. She also makes comments such as,”I am overjoyed you will not become a plant!” “Oh no don’t pick flowers! I would hate to hurt the plant...” “Are you sure the grass will not mind if I step on it?” If you have played fallout you might know where this is going. Basically there are 2 vaults that are important, both of them are found over grown with plants one containing half human half plant monstrous creatures. Her story is that she was in the vault that laster holds the monstrous creatures. Her programming was to continue the experiment, the experiment to combine humans with plants in an attempt to improve upon humans. She could not tell the humans what she was doing, and she could not stop the experiment until it was complete. There were dogs there under her command to be used as experiments too or keep the plants in line. So the chain saw and flamethrower were to stop unruly plant monsters from attacking her and keep them in line until finally the order came that the experiment was over and she was no longer needed. So she left, secretly horrified by her actions attempting to avoid ever processing what she witnessed fully through her system. She wants to see the world for herself now with her dog friend. Again when people meet her she seems like a sweet angel going so far as to worry about even the feelings of plants, but for anyone who was in that vault they would see her as a very different person.

Gerrit Cole
Gerrit Alan Cole is a 30-year-old right-hander from the luxurious land of Newport Beach, California.
From what I am told, the below is an accurate depiction of his upbringing.
undefined
youtube
He was raised a Yankees fan, and that passion for the team has not waned in his family one bit.
Tumblr media
And he enjoys a good night out with his wife and Earth’s most wonderful couple—the Tanakas.
Tumblr media
Oh, and he’s an absolute fucking legend out there on the hill.
undefined
youtube
2020 Vision
Tumblr media
For Cole, this is considered a down year since finding his full potential in the 2018 season. As a note, you have no idea how glad I am he has nothing to do with the 2017 Astros—being a part of their ’18 and ’19 rosters is already bad enough.
Tumblr media
He was worth 2.1 WAR in just 12 starts. That’s absolutely stupid. He only pitched 73 innings too, in no small part to having 2 of his first 3 starts shortened by rain. He was absolutely blowing people up on Opening Day, but Darth Manfred brought the rain and lightning and he was only given 5 innings to work his magic.
Tumblr media
Sometimes the only way to stop a man this powerful is to have the mythical titans of a Greece past intervene and bring some unstoppable weather.
And he does it all really efficiently too.
Tumblr media
Look at all this good stuff. The pitches in the zone are meant to be there, the ones out of the zone are meant to be there. He knows how to attack hitters, get ahead in the count, and put guys away once he’s got you in that 2-strike hole. It also helps that pretty much all of his pitches are considered plus pitches as well.
Tumblr media
He just eats people alive out there. He’s a real pitcher’s pitcher.
If he does have one minor, and I mean minor, bugaboo, it’s that last year he gave up a few more dingers than we would’ve wanted and 14 more than he wanted.
Tumblr media
This FB% rate and FB/HR rate doesnt bother me too much given the 2020 gong show season, but hey, it happened and it’s worth mentioning at least a little bit. You don’t even really care about this. He’s Gerrit Fucking Cole.
Have More Fun in ‘21
He is, obviously, the opening day starter.
Tumblr media
And you can see why. This is what they think is going to happen. I don’t even have good words to describe this. His average projection is a 16-win, low-3 ERA, 200-inning, 5+ WAR campaign. And from what we’ve seen, and given a proper offseason and preparation, we know that these may even be…conservative guesses on behalf of the robots doing the math.
I don’t see any problem with these numbers. Neither do you.
Let’s get to the fanfiction.
Cole Wins His First of 5 Consecutive CY Awards
Take the above screenshot and turn all of the rate stats up/down 20% in the right direction and add this section’s title. Pushing 14K/9, ERA below 3, WAR near 7.0, and his first ever CY en route to 4 more in ’22-’25.
He’s this fucking good, stays healthy, and just absolutely obliterates people for the next 150 starts in his career. Oh, and he becomes a mix of Playoff Andy and Playoff Tanaka and gets at least one WS MVP. He’ll have more than a few chances at it, but he’ll get at least one of them.
Cole Underperforms His Lofty Expectations But Is Still A Top 20 Pitcher In The League
That’s it. That’s the negative prediction. I’m not even going to play the, “If he gets hurt” game with him. Fuck you Injury Gods. Fuck you and your injures.
Evan’s Official Is Gerrit Cole Single, and If Not, Is Mrs. Cole Cool With Her Hubby Swinging? Final Gift Basket Prediction
He’s going to fuck. He’s going to seriously, seriously, fuck. We’re gonna be running over ourselves to watch his starts. He’s going to win the AL CY. He’s going to help carry us to the playoffs. He’s going to be a big piece of why we make the World Series and eventually win it. He’s Gerrit Fucking Cole—Today, Tomorrow, Forever.
(And in case you need something to finish off with.)

Join us in a few days when we have some different content that isn’t a player breakdown, and perhaps something from a 3rd contributor about baseball science. Yeah, this crew is nerdy like that.
From the honest bottom of both my heart and Sam’s, we want to thank everyone that read these and hung out with us while we talked Yankees baseball while waiting for Spring Training to slog through as we get ready for Opening Day on Thursday.
Fuck the Red Sox. Fuck the Astros. And let’s go Yanks!

Lakers’ Kobe Bryant also documented final NBA season with all-access film crew
On Sunday night, as Cleveland Cavaliers forward Larry Nance Jr. sat down with his family to watch the first two episodes of ESPN’s 10-part documentary on Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, he was suddenly transported to his rookie season playing alongside Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant.
As he watched an NBA Entertainment camera crew in the Bulls’ locker room, capturing private teammate interactions and other moments for “The Last Dance” that so often stayed behind the scenes, Nance began thinking about the 2015-16 season with the Lakers.
That season was Bryant’s 20th in the purple and gold of Los Angeles. And just as the camera crew had unprecedented access to chronicle every moment of Jordan’s final season with the Bulls, the same holds true for Bryant’s final NBA season. The crew expanded in size during his last campaign, and as many as six personal camera crews were present during his 60-point finale.
2 Related
Bryant’s camera crew, several Lakers staffers from that season said, had unparalleled access in locker rooms both at home and on the road, in the training room, throughout the team’s practice facility and even on the team’s charter plane.
“They had unprecedented and, by far, greater access than anyone else ever,” said John Black, who led the Lakers’ public relations department for 27 years, last serving as vice president. “We certainly allowed them to do everything we could within what the league would allow, and sometimes, with a wink and look-the-other-way, allowed them even more.”
In the wake of Bryant’s death in a helicopter crash that killed eight others in late January, what will happen to the exhaustive footage gathered during his last season remains unclear.
Sources close to the matter told ESPN that the footage had been in the editing stages for a potential documentary to be released years from now — though it is unclear when exactly that would be — and that Bryant had seen edited material and provided feedback in the months leading up to his death. It is unlikely those plans have changed, the sources said.
A representative for Bryant did not return messages seeking comment.

The 10-part Michael Jordan documentary “The Last Dance” is here.
• Latest updates, full schedule • NBA experts on MJ’s greatness • Big moments from the premiere • How to get ready for the doc
The sources told ESPN that rather than have anyone else chronicle his season, Bryant, who had produced and starred in his 2015 documentary “Muse,” ultimately sought control over the footage, which is why he decided it was best to have his own camera crew take on such a project, especially as Bryant worked to build his own post-NBA media empire.
Seeing the footage of Jordan’s final season has sparked numerous memories for those present during Bryant’s final season.
“Just watching them and being able to view what the cameras were doing to [capture] Jordan’s pregame routine, I mean, it’s the same thing,” said Marco Nunez, who served as the Lakers’ assistant athletic trainer that season and is no longer with the team. “Just flash forward … take out No. 23 with the Bulls and insert No. 24 with the Lakers. Yeah, I mean, it’s pretty much identical.”
“It’s hard for me to not watch that and sort of see those [similar] instances,” added former Lakers head strength and conditioning coach Tim DiFrancesco.
There were key differences, of course — the biggest being that Jordan’s Bulls were pushing for their sixth title in eight seasons while Bryant’s team ultimately posted a 17-65 season, the worst record in franchise history.
“It was interesting because, obviously, we weren’t winning, so that was frustrating. And the [cameras were always] in your face so, I don’t know, it was hard,” said Robert Sacre, a reserve center for the Lakers that season. “It didn’t feel real as a season.”
Said Nance: “It was really cool because, like, this is the Black Mamba. But at the same time, like, this is also the worst season in Lakers history. So while I’m really proud to be in the NBA playing with this absolute legend, [that] is not something that I’m really trying to relive.”
Tumblr media
From Detroit to San Antonio to Chicago, from his appearance and his antics to his brilliance and his exuberance, Dennis Rodman crafted a Hall of Fame career on his way to winning five NBA titles in all. Watch on ESPN+
Former Lakers head athletic trainer Gary Vitti compared the situation to a “reality show” and said it was an uncomfortable arrangement at times.
“Everybody just sort of shook their head and said, ‘Whatever we got to do, we got to do,'” Vitti recalled. “‘Let’s just try to do it the best we can.'”
The Lakers, several staffers said, were certainly accustomed to a high level of media attention and cameras being present — especially with a player of Bryant’s stature. Some even pointed to the fact that they were used to cameras gathering footage behind the scenes, as their television partner Spectrum SportsNet has done for their Lakers All-Access TV packages.
But Bryant’s crew received what was considered unique privileges, in no small part because they were working for Bryant, several staffers said. And they received access that was even beyond that of Spectrum SportsNet, which had previously signed a 20-year, $4 billion deal with the Lakers, sources told ESPN.
One former staffer, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that with previous crews, there was always the option to tell them to turn their camera off if they were gathering footage that might be deemed too sensitive or if they were in an area deemed off-limits. The staffer said they couldn’t do the same with Bryant’s crew.
Bryant’s crew was granted approval from the NBA to shoot footage, though it was limited on the amount of game footage it could record. Still, his crew attended every game, practice and shootaround and followed Bryant off the court and at home.
Having Bryant’s camera crew constantly around required an adjustment period for the Lakers.
“It was like, ‘All right, we got to really watch what we’re saying, watch what we’re talking about, because you have no idea who’s watching or editing this,'” Nance said. “That’s something we all kind of talked about as a team is like, ‘Hey, you never know where this is going. So let’s just keep it mellow around the cameras.’
“But then the longer the year went on, you just forget about them and just kind of stopped caring.”
One particular area that was tricky for filming was the athletic training room, where Bryant spent much of his final seasons as team specialists worked on his injury-battered frame. Previously, when camera crews were present there, which was incredibly rare, they were supervised by team officials. The training room is often off-limits in no small part because of rules related to medical privacy.
“That year, it wasn’t rare anymore because they were there every day,” the former team staffer said.
At least one member of the camera crew flew on the team charter, several former staffers said.
Nunez described the crew’s presence as “controlled chaos.” He said that while the crew was nice and respectful, it was clear its members were gathering what they needed.
“So it was kind of a mutual kind of love and hate,” Nunez said. “Yeah, I hate that you’re here, but I get that you have to be here.”
For some staffers, Nunez included, there was a sense that, at the end of the day, history was being recorded.
“I do recall saying, ‘This is in some ways annoying to have extra people around at these odd times that [they] aren’t normally allowed with a camera on,'” DiFrancesco said. “But in that same conversation to myself, [I was] saying, ‘But this will be cool, you know, [however] many years down the road.'”
Eventually, Nance said, he even started to imagine how real-time moments would look on film.
“Kobe would say something in the locker room and I would kind of think about it like, ‘Oh, that’s gonna look pretty sick when they film it,'” Nance said. “Or, you know, that 60-point game or [him] playing in Philadelphia that last time. ‘This is pretty monumental. I’m so glad somebody’s going to have a way to remember this.'”

An Interview with Atalanta Now!
Tumblr media
Hey all. Today I’m gonna do something a little different. Hope you all enjoy it.
The last few years I’ve been blessed to do some interviews, podcasts and Q&A’s and I decided it was time to return the favor. So with the big showdown with Atalanta coming up I reached out to Nigel Mannering, who runs the Atalanta Now twitter page and podcast. He is a great follow and an excellent listen. Highly recommended. Nigel was kind of enough to reach back across the twitter-verse and have a little email Q & A. Here’s how it went!
1. Hey Nigel! Where are you from? Why Atalanta? Why Serie A?
I live in Portsmouth on the South Coast of England. When I was growing up Channel 4 in England had the Serie A coverage so I would always watch a game on a Sunday afternoon. Atalanta had Pippo Inzaghi at the time. I would also play Championship Manager on my PC and I would always lose to Atalanta in Bergamo. As a result I became curious about he team and have been supporting ever since. I worked as a football journalist for around 3 years when I was younger. Now days my time is devoted to work, watching football and covering Atalanta on twitter which I have done for nearly 3 years. I also have a weekly Podcast where we talk about all things Atalanta.
2. As a relatively new regular in Serie A (since 2013 now) that has had some very nice finishes the last few years, how have your expectations for Atalanta changed? Do you expect Europe? Are you still just happy to survive and finish in the top half every year?
We have had some nice finishes over the years yes, most recently we finished 4th in 2016/17 which was just amazing. I feel expectations have been consistent right up until this season. Over the years a mid table finish would be considered excellent but I kind of feel that has changed a little bit this season. We have a good side and can beat anybody and the last 2 seasons we have been right up there, I think expectations are for more of the same this season however, I don’t know if that’s fans expectations or that of the football journalists. I never expect Europe, its stunning to see Bergamo represented in Europe and the locals take great pride in it. As for survival or the top half, I just want to see us get the best out of what we have in the team. I support the shirt and no matter whether its Europa League or Serie B, we support the Goddess everywhere she goes.
3. What were your expectations coming into this season in particular and how have they changed now that we are past the halfway point?
Top half and battling for Europe was my personal expectations. As well as a strong showing in the Europa League, obviously we went out early and where denied that chance. I think at the half way point expectations have not really changed, they have just become for achievable. Europa League looks highly likely, a Champions League place would be bonkers.
4. How do you view matchups with the established 'big clubs' in Italy? Is Atalanta still an 'underdog' club or do you think recent success has raised expectations?
Still the underdog but we have really taken it to the top sides recently. Inter and Juve being the most notable wins. I personally love playing the top teams. We are one of the few sides in the league brave enough to play our own football, we never park the bus.
5. Duvan Zapata...... discuss!
The best thing to come out of Colombia since Gold Roast blend Coffee. Duvanstating, Duvanstanti, Zapzilla, Zapatalanta. Since scoring against Bologna he has become unbelievable. A simply insane amount of goals. His hold up play and link up is good, he has confidence in front of goal now and he loves a Thierry Henry style move starting from the left. He roasted Milan Skriniar to devastating effect.
6. Papu Gomez is definitely the talisman of Atalanta right now. Who do you see as his eventual successor to the captaincy?
Next Question? I don’t honestly know. What I do know is I don’t want Papu to go. When he goes it would be nice if the armband went to a player who’s come through the academy. That’s the best I can do for you!
7. How do you see this game at home against Milan playing out?
If you asked me in December I would say we would win it. Whilst we have Duvan banging in the goals, Milan have Piatek who also has found the net all season long. Ultimately we are playing AC Milan so we know from all the games over the years what to expect. It will be a very tough game and its made all the bigger by how close the Serie A table is right now. A win in this game could be the difference at the end of the campaign. I fancy us against anyone at home right now though so I think we are more than capable of winning this one.
8. How do you see the rest of the season playing out, not only in the league but also in the Coppa Italia?
Oh the Coppa Italia WOW what a chance for us. If you offer me 6th place and the Coppa Italia win I will bite your hand off. I give anything to see us win something. In the league its so close anything could happen. I think we will get Europa League football and I think we are going to the final of the Coppa Italia. The question is can we win it?
As you can see it all started with Pippo.... how can you not respect that?????
A huge thanks to Nigel for joining us and of course the wonderful answers. If you are on twitter give the Atalanta Now page a follow and definitely try out their podcast.

How To Make $100,000 In A Year From Facebook Ads
youtube
Hey this is Ryan Hildreth seven-figure online marketer and what am about to show you is how you can make a hundred thousand, thousand dollars from Facebook ads this year now this is a skill set that you can either use to, to generate more profit for your own business, for other business or just to create that extra stream of income for yourself, what I used to go from broke joke to seven-figure online entrepreneur in the matter of 2 years, and I know you can do this to so go ahead and stay until the end of this video make sure to subscribe hit, thumbs up button and comment down below because I’m going to be giving a free coaching call to someone who comments, down below so let’s go ahead and hop on my computer and get into this, alright so we’re here on my computer and I’m going to show you how to make a hundred thousand, From Facebook ads this year, using it the right way, right now, keyword the right way there’s a lot of, you know false information out there and I want to show you, the right way to use Facebook ads to help you get the most results, for your own business, for other people’s business right if you have clients or, just to make an extra stream of income, 1000 or 2, $2,000 a month, i’m so I’m going to show you number one I’m going to show you the Facebook, objective, funnel concept, okay in this funnel concept, is kind of, the backbone, of everything that I’ve done, with my Facebook ads to see, you know a great amount of success okay so this funnel concept is what you want to remember, and kind of use that as the backbone, to your skill-set, number to I’m going to show you, Facebook ads that worked for, that work for a low cost, and then number three I’m going to show you how to get clients paying you, 1000 to 5000 per month on autopilot, okay, so let’s go ahead and get into this, so this is the Facebook, objective, funnel concept now this is something that, most people don’t talk about here on YouTube and I want to share this with you, so that you understand, how to use Facebook app, the right way because, it is a product, that was designed to be, used you know a certain way and if, if you follow that way, i it’s going to work more effectively, are you okay, and this is information that I’m not just, you know throwing out their based off of, opinions but actually what I’ve seen., worked in also, you know what my Facebook ads rep has taught me, Okay.
So I you know I have a Facebook, ads rep that works for Facebook that, it has taught me, exactly how, time to use the product, and I’m going to show you right now this, full-funnel targeting approach, okay so, a lot of people you know if you’ve ever seen a video on Facebook ads, you probably, have seen someone log into their Facebook ads manager account, you know set up an ad for traffic Target a specific, you know objective let’s just saying they’re selling, you know dog leashes right and they, target dog lovers in, you’re 18 to 46 years old, and that’s fine, alright that’s fine, you know it’s very easy to go, into your Facebook ads manager and set up an actual ad but, what you, you don’t understand is, the marketing objectives, behind it, how you gonna, get that add to act, Convert, into money right, to convert into, sale and that’s kind of what I wanted, today so, if you’re just starting out with Facebook ads, then, this is going to be perfect, wait for you now if the if you’re someone who, currently has a business you have a large email list maybe you’re already running Facebook ads, then this is also going to be perfect for you because, you’re going to see how you can reach, new audiences, and create new, facebook ads, 2, eventually convert, sales, okay so, we want to look at Facebook ads, as a funnel, okay so there’s, different marketing objectives, as you probably know if you’ve ever used a Facebook ad, and if you haven’t don’t worry I’ll show you on the next slide with what it looks like, but, you know there’s many objectives, and the first objective that you want to use, Is brand awareness, now a lot of people aren’t using brand awareness most people just set up a Facebook ad to run for traffic, but the reason we want to run for brand awareness, is to get people familiar with our brand, and with our product with what we have, the offer, with the value that we can provide to their life, stripe, no one is going to purchase, i’m not going to purchase a t-shirt from, you know just some random Fitness brand that I never even heard of right, even if I see them three times, but you don’t advertise to me, i’m probably not going to purchase something, sing from them because number one I don’t trust them number to I don’t know who they are I don’t know what they’re about, and number three I haven’t seen them, often enough to be able to, you know give them basically my money right so, How do you build that, brand awareness in that trust with people well, they have to see your ad, multiple times after, hear your name being, you know used in, maybe there for email, maybe their friends have, referred your brand or, maybe they’ve seen your ad so many times they finally decided, the click on your link and check out your website, right so, brand awareness is where you want to start out and that’s the top of the funnel, in the targeting for this is going to be, you know if you already have an email list right, go ahead and create your custom audience, and your lookalike audience and you don’t have, you can kind of, skip over this brand awareness objective but, even then you should be reaching new cold audience, so your geo-targeting could be, maybe, you know, Where your business does.
Where your business, this is actually establish maybe you do a 25 mile radius, maybe you, do some key research and find out who your competitors are and you can Target, your competitors, audience, and then you can get into different ages, engenders, i’m an interest okay, so, you know my for my personal brand you know I, teach many students how to run Facebook ads how to get, clients, you know if I wanted to run advertisements, to my programmer my coaching, right, then I could Target may be different, business, right in there I could Target Their audience, time to reach, a cold audience may be people who don’t know me, i could Target, specific age range, 36 years old, because that’s, you know who I tend to resonate with more, so, you can set up your targeting I would set up 5, brand awareness ads okay five different ads running at $5 a day, Okay and that’s only 25 bucks spent a day, just to get some awareness, just to build, your Facebook pixel warm it up, and give Facebook some data to work with okay, and you’re, your kpi or key performance indicators, are going to be reaching for frequency, the Nielsen brand effect study okay so that’s basically, ad recall lift or how many people is a metric that shows you, how many people are most likely to remember, your brand after seeing your advertisement, okay and bracelet basically brand awareness, tom creates that, you know it creates., that metric for you so it will give you one you’re running an ad, for brand awareness it’ll say, you know 30 people are most likely to remember your add three days from, okay, so brand awareness first that’s going to be your first objective to reach a cold audio, Most people are saying all just run traffic ads or just run, conversion ads, you have people try to buy your product, even though they don’t know who you are they’ve never seen your brand before and that is a major mistake so, run brand awareness first and then, you can go ahead and create, lookalike audience based off people who have, engage with your ad, and then you could run consideration at, which would be, your marketing objective would be like traffic, okay, so brand awareness first, then after you run your brand to wear, awareness add to get some, data in your Facebook pixel, run your traffic app, okay, and basically your traffic ads targeting is going to be based off of, people that engaged with your previous brand awareness ad, and the kpi key performance indicator is going to be, cost-per-click because now you actually, you want people to be clicking, On your ad to go to your website, okay and check out what you have to offer, you know brand awareness we’re not too worried about that we just want people to watch our video for, you know more than 15 seconds, and so you know just remember our ad, and then, once we go for consideration we run a track traffic objective we want to get, i’m clicks right we want to get people seeing our landing page, and then after, we do that, okay, so now we’re, deeper in the funnel, now we could create another custom audience based off of people who clicked our ad, viewed our landing page, and we could now run a, retargeting campaign, 4 conversion, now this is where we actually, sell our products, okay, because now people are they, the People Know Who You Are, they clicked on are advertisement landing on our webpage, And now.
There a warm, audience so now we can go ahead and Pitch our sale we can pitch our product today, now it’s not going to be, a weird barrier where you know we pitch our products and they’re like whoa whoa whoa who are you I don’t even know who you are, right it’s going to be like okay yeah I’ve clicked on your advertisement, before you’re pitching your product, you know and I’ll, consider purchasing alkins, consider taking out my, credit card, and purchasing, your product for, a conversion, okay so that is your kpi or kpi is going to be now, i’m conversions may be getting a lead, giving, getting someone to give you their email or, you know making a sale, okay, so this is I want you to think deeper about this funnel concept, when you’re choosing your marketing objectives because, This is the backbone and so many people are teaching Facebook ads, here on YouTube, or just in general and they’re not talking about this, does the backbone, and this is kind of, the most important part, is understanding how to use Facebook ads the right way so, now that you know this, now that you, no this concept that showed it to you, you can run ads the right way and get the best, conversions, the most sales, what’s the most brand awareness, how’s traffic to your site, because you’re running in the right order, okay, so, again choosing the correct objective-based off, the funnel concept so this is what it looks like in the ads manager I’m not going to login to my ads manager right now but I do, have a screenshot here on the right, can see okay, so, we’re going to create a lookalike audience for each step after, The Gathering data so step number one you’re running brand awareness, right, step number two, you’re running traffic to the lookalike audience of people who, engage with your add-on, through brand awareness, sr watch more than, 15, seconds, okay, and then after step number two were running traffic ads, getting people to click under a website, then we could run, 4 conversion, getting people to give us their email getting people to pull out the, the credit card and purchase our products, right, so, after after we run traffic we create another lookalike audience based off of people who clicked the link, viewed our landing page, okay, and that’s how we’re going to get conversion, and then also engagement ads can be ran with a chatbot for Lee generator, now this is kind of a bonus, i’m not going to dive too deep into this right now but, You can look into engagement ads, and anyone that engages with your ad, you know in you if you have a chatbot connected in this, kenmore technical, the chatbot will automatically, capture that lead, and in follow up with them with a, email Seeker, wentzville not an email sequence with actual, a chatbot, through on Facebook message, okay, so you can create retargeting campaigns for conversions, also you know, maybe you’re running one ad for brand awareness you running that maybe, running that same ads, for traffic, but for conversions you can create AC, specific ad talking with the, the viewer saying hey, i saw that you landed on my, i saw that you landed on Ryan Hildreth. Com, i just want to let you know, there’s a 30% sale going on right now okay, that would be a specific retargeting campaign, because you’re talking, to someone who is already a warm lead, Okay.
So that is, you know that’s basically, how to run, your objectives, is the right way, how to follow Step 1 Step 2, step 3 in the right sequence, and get the best, out of your Facebook, because I’d hate to see you, you know, get bad conversions or are just waste money on Facebook ads, like I did, when I first started, because I wasn’t taught the right way, so let’s talk about Facebook ads that work at a low cost, all right, and this is something., you know I’ve more recently have gotten into because when I first started running Facebook ads I would always, edit my place, that’s what I was taught so, i would get a run specific, instagram, story at, interspecific, facebook feed ads and that’s it I would just check, you know one box, now, when I’ve been talking to my abs rep, When we’re running new advertising right and we’re trying to build that brand awareness, it’s Bass, to run, placement, it’s because then Facebook is going to, play Star ad everywhere, and see which one is, more cost-effective, and what’s working the best, it’s going to push, ads, you know if there if, our ad is running better on in, instant-articles, and, yo suggest, videos, then Facebook is going to push more of our ad budget, did those things because, yeah we’re getting more conversions from those at a lower cost so, when you are running, a new, marketing campaign, consider, running automatic placements okay when you’re first starting out, obviously there’s accept, directions to the rule, creating a specific, instagram story ad, with a 15 second video, in 1080 by 1920, okay pixel dementia, then obviously you can’t run that add-on, the Facebook, okay but, there are exceptions, and this is not in, End-all-be-all thing, botkins, sitter running automatic placements in, instead of edit, replacement, and then once you’re, converting UK, optimized, placement, now, so you’re probably think of yourself wow this is this is like, really in-depth, what kind of in a lot of theory, how am I going to make the, this work okay how am I going to make a, what you learn today is the backbone of, facebook advertise, so, now you have a skill set, okay and if, if you want to go, watch one of my other videos on, you know how to setup a Facebook ad I’m actually going to link that here at the top right, corner of this video, okay you can watch that video, and it’ll show you a, exactly how to set it up in the Facebook ad manager, and then there’s also a playlists, you can watch, with tons of videos free videos that I’ve made, But now that you have the skill, dulcet okay Facebook ads, you know how to run them, you know how to get, you know how to get results, now you can get, clients pay on autopilot, what would an extra 1000, to 5000 month do for you, probably a lot, i did a lot for me when I, i first started out so, you don’t even just getting one client, can you an extra thousand, in a month can take care of groceries, take care of the bill so, and I have a new method, on how to get, clients paying you on autopilot, there’s thousands of businesses out in your local area that, that need help, with advertise, just like this, they they don’t know how to run Facebook ads, they need your help but there’s no need to door-knock or cold call any, those were the old method, Those are still good methods Ryukin.
Still land clients doing door-knocking, cold calling, if you’re good at that, but I found a new method, how to get clients on autopilot from your home from your computer, and if you want that method, then the link down below there’s going to be a link the first link in description, okay hello this video, you’re going to click that link, watch the master class and if you attend that masterclass, i’m going to send you personally to your email, okay with internet within the hour, my clients on autopilot, strategy, training video, okay I’m going to send that to your email so make sure to check your junk box, just in case, you should get it within an hour, of signing up for the free masterclass, okay, and then if you have any questions feel free, you know to, Comment here, or your message me on Instagram, so again, this is work for many of our students as you can see Jason Allbright landed at $2,000 monthly deal Nick Paton, he’s now doing, over $100,000 in annual revenue from, has agency, i Jimmy Martinez 1300 a month, i’m Tommy landed $1,000 per month client, as you can see tons of people, landing, clients, first social Media Markt, for Facebook ads, like I just taught you, okay, so you know we have over 700 students in our private Facebook group, and that, it’s amazing, what, these people done to, and also help, others, change their business, okay so, if you enjoyed this video make sure to, subscribe button thumbs up, and comment down below for that, free, coaching call, okay so I will be choosing a winner, announce that in the next, video so I hope you enjoyed it, and I’ll see you in the next one take care.
