"There's an ugly witch in the woods" the kids would sing. "In raggy hoods,/Any job will do,/For gold coins two!/A hex or a curse,/For a coin-full purse."
And so, Shanks ventured out into the woods, based on a children's nursery rhyme, hoping and praying that the witch could help. He's searched high and low to find the love of his life, who left him heartbroken and rejected.
He finally found the so-called witch, but they refused to talk to him. They shut the door in his face, refusing to talk to him, blocking the door and waiting for him to leave. But Shanks never did. Instead, when he saw that the witch was blocking the door with their body, he started talking, trying to convince them that he needed their help. He told them about the love of his life, who he had been seeking out ever since he got old enough to, how much he loves the other and he offered money, lots of money. Finally, the witch, covered in cloaks from head to toe, let him in. They didn't talk to him directly, using a familiar or writing.
They did a fast seance, telling him it was a lost cause. But when Shanks insisted on finding them, he was like a dog biting on a bone, no budging until he got what he wanted. The witch relented and gave him, what they thought were three vague and unfindable things. An article of fond memories, the laughter of the past and the most precious stone unbeknownst to man.
But then Shanks came back with a locket of hair that Buggy had given him when their foolish childhood dreams were to get married. He also carried a mirror that replicated the memories of his love in his happiest days, even though in most he was laughing at Shanks, it was his favorite sound. And the last, he brought the promise stone Buggy had given him - a pebble that looked blue under moonlight, as a keepsake until they could properly get married.
The witch looked unhappy with the items but did their chant and ritual. In the end, they told him the same as last time - his love didn't love him back and didn't want to be found, so he should stop searching.
And that would have been it if Shanks wasn't so stubborn and hadn't kept on giving the witch money to help him. The witch kept on bamboozling him, until, finally, the witch had enough.
"Will you stop it, you foolish man! How do I have to tell you to get lost, so you finally listen!" The witch screamed at him, tears threatening to fall.
Shanks only smiled at him. "Am I so horrible for wanting to hear your voice, my love." He kneeled down and took his hand. "No force can keep me away from you, Buggy."
The witch, Buggy, rubbed his eyes, "You idiot..."
"Will you accept this idiot as your own?" Shanks, placed Buggy's hand on his face, nuzzling in the touch, craving what he had been able to barely see, but never touch or hear. A man deprived of sight and sound, finally relishing in the beauty of the music of his lover's voice, the soft caresses, like seeing color for the first time in his life.
"How did you know..."
"I'd recognize you if I were a blind man and you a mute. By the essence of your being."

First ever request on Tumblr but Can you do one where like the reader is a hunter as well but she doesn’t make that obvious so when Dean keeps asking her questions she threatens to stab him and he says “ You’re not really gonna shank me, are you ?”
oooh a first request?!? so freaking exciting. hopefully this lives up to expectations in any way :)
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader (kinda hehe)
Warnings: talks of death (aligning with usual supernatural stuff), this is a comedy to be honest, [“what do you have?” “a knife!!!” “no!!!!”]
send requests here!
—————
Dean walked into the near-empty bar, ducking under the tape at the door. He looked around to see one woman standing near the body, and her full attention now seemed to be on him. She looked official.
“Hey,” Dean started. “I’m, uh, Agent Plant. You are?”
“Agent Jones,” she stated curtly.
“I thought this was a closed scene? Cops outside put up a fight when I tried getting in.”
“Special privilege.”
“Anything new?” he asked, walking closer to her.
“Not so far.”
“You mind if I check around the space? See if any, uh…”
“Go for it.”
He nodded, looking at the bar first. It seemed like it was going to be a witch situation, so he started looking for hex bags. He was near the end when he turned back to her as she examined the body.
“Has anything strange been found? Any weird coins or…?” he trailed, watching her face.
She narrowed her eyes. “No.”
“No small bags or anything hidden around the room?”
She stared at him for a moment from where she was crouched.
“What would be in these bags if they were found?”
“Uh, you know… There’s been some scenes that could be connected. They had small animal bones, some other weird—”
“Alright,” she mumbled, standing abruptly. She pushed him into the wall, a hand on the handle of her knife, “How the hell do you know any of this?”
“I- I don’t…” he started with wide eyes.
She pulled the blade. “You a witch?”
“No! No, I’m not a—” he stumbled over words as his eyes widened further upon seeing the knife. “Uh, you’re not really gonna shank me, are you?”
“How do you know so much about what’s happening here?”
“I’m trying to help,” he said, raising his hands in surrender.
“Help how?”
“I’m a hunter!”
She paused. “What’s your name?”
“Winchester. Dean Winchester.”
Realization dawned on her face as she withdrew her knife. She watched him closely, not moving. As she opened her mouth to speak, an even taller man walked into the room.
“Is everything good here?” he asked, looking between the other two.
“I assume you’re Sam,” she said quietly.
“Yeah.”
She nodded. “Well, damn.”
Dean smirked as she lowered her arm from where it rested against his throat.
“If you wanted me against the wall, you really could’ve just asked, sweetheart.”
She narrowed her eyes. “I won’t hesitate to stab you next time you say something like that.”
She looked between them, annoyance still thrumming in her veins. She huffed a sigh as she sheathed her blade again.
“It is a witch. I just don’t know how they killed this particular person,” she said. “You’re welcome to help me, but keep in mind this was my case first. I’ll be outside.”
They watched as she left, mumbling under her breath about the “freaking Winchesters” showing up to her case. The boys looked at each other as she walked out the door.
“That was kinda hot,” Dean said finally, letting out half a laugh.
First Sam laughed. Then, upon realizing they were on a literal witch-hunt, he serioused.

May I ask what are you headcanons about Buggy's childhood ? Like how Roger found him ? Was he a baby like Shanks or older ? If he had parents at one point but lost them or was he orphan since birth ?
I need to know 😭
Oh I can but y'know y'know that's not something I think about a lot... /s
Tumblr media
ARHEM. SO. Here is how I see things :
We know from stampede that Buggy has some memories from his mother (even if it's probably stated as a joke, I keep that in mind)
So I headcanon that he was a bit older than Shanks when he was adopted by Roger pirates - maybe 2 or 3 years old
However, he was put in an orphanage real young - I personally like to HC that he was the son of a sexworker (obviously nothing bad in it, in this house we respect sexworkers, hex swerfs)
Roger pirates had to anchor on his island for groceries things, and spotted the little clown toddler playing alone in front of the orphanage
Rayleigh immediately wanted to adopt him so Shanks would not be the only toddler on board, Roger immediately wanted to adopt him because "ARHARHARH HEY RAY' LOOK AT THIS CLOWN BABY LET'S TAKE HIM ON THE BOAT"
So yes basically Roger pirates were the only he ever had (until the one I made him have and - NO I WON'T STOP TALKING ABOUT MY OC OK)
which made Shanks lefting even more devastating because in one day he basically saw his father dying in front of him and was abandonned by his brother so like he lose all the only family he had in ONE DAY at 15 - this clown natural state is sad and pathetic, poor little angry man. I wanna hug him. AND I HATE SHANKS HOLLY SH- *take a deep breath*
May I had that I HC him as being both adorable and unsufferable when he was a kid ? Big angry crybaby. Didn't mature a lot on this point.
thank you for the ask now I feel the urge to cuddle the clown

To throw my hat in the ring for anyone who wants tips on Mirror Dungeon 2 Hard Mode, this is what I've got. It's mostly anecdotal, so take it as you will:
Starter Buffs
Technically unnecessary, but in the way that airbags are "technically unnecessary" for a car to run. It'll go fine for a while, but you won't like it when something hits you.
Your mileage may vary on what to pick up in terms of buffs, but you will want buffs. My first two runs in Hard Mode were with +3 offense and +2 defense, since I wanted to maximize my clash power. Second run also had +1 max speed, which was nice to have, but it wasn't game changing from what I've noticed.
Starters
In both runs I've done so far, I used Rabbit Heathcliff, Tingtang Gang Leader Hong Lu, LCCB Ishmael, L Corp Faust and Rosespanner Meursault.
Rabbit Heath is just good, period. Tingtang HL is good at mopping up low health enemies and can clash with Shank (or Mutilate, in a pinch). L Corp Faust is a glass cannon that can clash well enough with Deep Cuts and Opportunistic Slash, though not as well as the other Sinners. LCCB Ish and Rose Salt can both clash well. Ish can inflict a few different useful debuffs, although you might need EGO gifts to get better mileage out of them. The weakest link of this bunch is definitely Meursault, but both he and Ish share the job of "getting punched in the gut and not folding in half".
You're gonna want to bring a unit or two that can tank, which most versions of Meursault can do well enough. You *will not* be able to win every clash, so you might as well have someone who can brace for the hit with Guard or Protection. Dodge still does well, but some enemies later on can attack higher than your dodge can cover. Best you can hope for is dodging most of a multi-coin attack in these cases.
Try to make sure your units are at least lvl 30 T3 before taking them in. Offense/Defense Level affects clash power, remember.
(Partly because I don't have the starting Cost boost and partly due to personal preference, I don't like running N Sinclair in the Mirror Dungeon. N Sinclair doesn't feel suited for the environment's sanity retention mechanic. That being said, a lot of people use him here anyway because he hits like a train.)
EGO
Having a wider variety of options for big hits will serve you well in not stressing over which big hit to use resources for. You'll also want to use them with discretion during standard fights, so you don't have to worry about having resources in fights you need them for.
Bodysack and Land of Illusion serve their usual roles as cheap big hit and good AoE respectively. Snagharpoon was useful for its different targeting priority in normal fights, which let me take some pressure off of units that would've been hit unopposed otherwise. Chains of Others and Representation Emitter were my panic buttons. If something was hitting too hard, I'd use Chains. If I lacked SP for clashing, I used Emitter.
The EGOs I've ended up using the most besides base ones were Roseate Desire (Hong Lu T2), Legerdemain (Gregor T3), Screwloose Wallop (Meursault T2), and Hex Nail (Faust T3). Ardor Blossom Star, Fluid Sac and Pursuance were also equipped, but they didn't see use in any meaningful capacity. Run one did also feature a fair bit of Sunshower (Outis T3) after she joined as my seventh member.
Pickup Characters
0 and 00 characters are free, so you're gonna learn to use them. Even if you don't care about anyone besides your core team, pick up some freebies for support passives.
Run one had a good start in terms of Cost, so I was able to pick up G Corp Gregor and Seven Outis early on. I didn't think to pick up any other characters until Floor 5, where I picked up base Rodion, Mariachi Sinclair and Seven Yi Sang.
Run two started with Faust and Meursault almost biting it at the end of the Floor 1 boss fight, so I picked up Mariachi Sinclair, Seven Yi Sang and Rosespanner Gregor for the team. Support from the other Sinners came later on, but Yi Sang and Meursault traded places on the team depending on the need until Meursault got healed. (In retrospect, why did I put El Jefe on my team? I didn't even remember he had Sinking at the time)
EGO Gifts
Your run's success wont hinge on getting the best EGO gifts but making the best of the options you're presented with.
You'll want to cover three bases: healing, EGO generation and damage. The specifics don't matter quite as much but try to shore up where your team feels like it's lacking, if possible. Just be smart about how you spend your Cost. A rest and a gift can be equally important.
That being said, Nebulizer has been shockingly useful for me. 4 turns/uses of crit chance on units that hit like trucks but otherwise have no crits can be quite nice if it activates. Phlebotomy Pack and Homeward have also been nice pickups when they appeared.
Some Strats I Have
Play smarter than Win Rate. It's utterly useless in focus fights and only helpful as a guide in harder normal fights. If you've played for a while, this isn't a new idea.
2. A lot of your clashes will be Neutral or worse. There are two things I look for in these: "Is my best roll worse than their best roll?" and "Is their worst roll worse than my one coin?"
If your best attack roll is worse than their best attack roll, it might be worth it to use a defense skill instead. This is especially so in human fights, as losing the clash will give the enemy higher SP, which makes further clashes riskier. Alternatively, use an EGO, if you feel it's necessary to.
Related to the above, EGOs can still lose clashes and there's not much that can be done about your odds in these situations, so keep your sanity high (or low, if you like to live dangerously) and hope for the best.
If your one coin on a multi-coin skill is better than their worst roll, it might be worthwhile to go through with the clash. This is especially true in Abnormality fights, where it's a flat 50/50 for each coin they have. (If your skill only has one coin to begin with, see the first bullet point.)
3. You can use unit speed to delay clashed attacks in focused battles. If you have multiple units that can redirect an attack and the slower unit doesn't have worse success chance, you can use the slower unit to clash to get free damage in early and potentially stagger the enemy before the clash happens.
4. If you don't like how a fight is turning out, you can withdraw from the fight before the result shows up to act like that fight didn't happen.
How my runs went
Run one had two speed bumps: Fairy Gentleman and Kromer. Fairy Gentleman took a while to fight because I didn't know the fight's mechanics. The two previous times I've fought him in normal conditions, I steamrolled him before any effects could really build up. I still don't know how he works besides "don't get everyone boosted" because he gets a clash buff against units who have morale boost.
The final fight with Kromer on the other hand, was resolved by dumping EGO into every clash I wasn't confident in. I had picked up Rusty Coin earlier on Floor 5, so while both fights took 7 turns, Kromer's took far less brainpower.
Run two was a bit more scuffed with some unlucky RNG early on that I decided to just work through instead of trying to min-max. Besides my questionable decision to bring El Jefe as my 6, the run wasn't very eventful. Floor 4 was So That No One Will Cry and Floor 5 was Shock Centipede. The talisman doll wasn't an issue because I didn't run enough debuffs I cared about for the debuff sharing to be an issue. The centipede was just calculated risk with clashes while keeping sanity up. As long as you have good sanity, you're more likely to succeed on EGO clashes. Pair this with the clash delay tactic and life gets easier.
Anyway, thanks for reading if you made it this far. I've had a good time with MD2 Hard Mode so far. I keep hearing how bad the fish and the statue are to fight, so I'm hoping I can encounter them on my next run to see how well my team holds up.

Common Munchies
The supernatural world exists in conjunction with and often mirrors the human. To this end, supernaturals have corporations, responses to competing products, inventions, etc etc - which means they have hella snacks, too. This list is nonexhaustive.
Snallygobsters, which are gobstopper-like hard candies that can temporarily give you Snallygaster traits, like a beak or wings. It only lasts for a moment though, just enough to be fun. They are a collaboration between the supernatural Gretel's and mundane Wonka that's been going since the early 1980's.
Cookies & Screams, which are chocolate sandwich cookies with enchanted catagoras cream that screams between the cookies. They're just the supernatural world's corporate response to Oreos, really. Mystery packs always contain one randomly hexed cookie that invariably ends up making one's mouth taste like pickled wyrm liver.
Boo Berries, an affectionate name for a berry tart made throughout the autumn months. It's also made with enchanted catagoras cream, as well as honey, custard, and chocolate depending on the individual making it. The catagoras cream makes them moan like a ghost or scream like a banshee once cut into. Typically enjoyed with friends or family, or otherwise large groups.
Witch Fingers, which are twitching, flicking, pointy treats not unlike a green desert pastry with red cream and jam in the middle. Much simpler than the above, but good fun for young children. Originated as a response to the goofy stereotypes ascribed to witches.
Ecto-Slime, which is just a moving slime candy themed around the G.hostbusters franchise, moving and wriggling the second the tube opens. Many sorcerers are enormous fans.
Cottonmouth Cakes, an insufferably dry tea cake. A delicacy often (not) enjoyed with tea. They're made with vanilla, lemon, blood orange, chocolate, lavender, and Morphagora Eyes typically, though there are variants. The eyes move and occasionally blink, but they are safe to eat, offering a burst of concentrated flavor that does nothing to ease your dry mouth. Typically served as an insult or an offering of friendship in formal settings. Older generations have a taste for them, but there are some youngins who enjoy them too.
FrankenLeeches, a chocolate candy modeled from the animal, but instead of blood and other gross things, they are stuffed with a marshmallow cream. They come in multiple types of chocolate and ooze with flavored filling; Dark chocolate is paired with orange cream or Cookies & Screams filling, white chocolate is paired with strawberry cream or key lime, milk chocolate with caramel cream or almonds, and more. There's also a gummy version filled with sour Ecto-Slime and comes in various flavors. Sold standard in assorted packs of 3-5in long Leeches, 3 of the chocolate variety or 3 of the gummy variety. They're often used as a gag on 1st year students, not because they're disgusting (on the contrary, they're quite tasty), but because the idea of biting into a writhing Frankenleech is simply foul on its face - and they do, in fact, wriggle and writhe like living leeches.
Ramona Shank's Rum-Runner Candies, enchanted novelty caramels that, when ingested, temporarily give you a " pirate accent " and a sudden craving for rum. Created by Ramona Shank, the great Pirate Witch, during the Golden Age of Piracy. Ramona's reputation was more or less just a marketing scheme that still works to this day.
Bloody Delights, a play on Turkish delights. They are made with a variety of donated / byproduct blood types, rose water, gelatin, raspberry juice, and finely powdered sugar, and are designed specifically for vampires. Their flavor is a bit...metallic, muddy, and weird to non-vampires, but taste sweet, pillowy, gummy, and homely to most vampires.

Decoding Screw Labels
example:  12-24 X 7/8 Hex Washer Head Self Drilling #3 Drill Bit
12 – Represents the thickness of the shank. Think dress size. The bigger the number, the thicker the shank.
24 – Represents the number TPI, or the number of threads per inch. The higher the number, the finer the threads, which are best used in metal applications. The fewer the threads per inch, the coarser the threads, the faster the screw will drive and are the preferred threading for wood applications or wood studs.
7/8 – measurement from underneath the head to the tip of the screw. In the case of flat headed screws, the length is measured from the top of the screw to the point.
#3 Drill Bit – Drill bit tips range from #2 to #5. They do not represent the size of the hole that they will drill but do represent the thickness of metal they will drive through. Source: All Points Fasteners by MaryLouise Eckman, Head Screw Lady Since 1986

What are the differences between a bolt and a screw?
In the world of fasteners, bolts and screws stand as stalwarts, fundamental elements within the creation and assembly of countless structures and products. While they will appear interchangeable at the beginning glance, a better exam well-knownshows wonderful variations in their layout, characteristic, and programs. Let's delve into the nuances of bolts and screws, exploring their characteristics, makes use of, and the situations wherein each excels.
Bolts: The Backbone of Structural Integrity
A bolt, regularly identified by using its external male threading, is a cylindrical fastener designed to be inserted thru pre-drilled holes in two or greater gadgets, and secured with a nut and washing machine. The threading on bolts is commonly incomplete, extending only in part alongside the shank. This function enables a stable grip whilst tightened with a nut, ensuring balance and structural integrity.
Nuts play a pivotal function inside the capability of bolts, imparting the essential counterforce to stable the linked components. This symbiotic relationship between bolts, nuts, and washers guarantees robust connections proof against loosening and vibration. In packages requiring improved energy and cargo-bearing capability, including production and heavy machinery, bolts are integral.
Exploring Variants: Socket Screws and Threaded Rods
Within the world of bolts, variants consisting of socket screws and threaded rods provide specialised answers for particular necessities. Socket screws, additionally known as Allen screws or hex socket bolts, function an inner hexagonal socket on the pinnacle, permitting tightening with an Allen wrench or hex key. This layout guarantees a flush end and minimizes protrusions, making socket screws perfect for applications wherein aesthetics and area constraints are paramount.
Threaded rods, then again, diverge from conventional bolts of their elongated form with out heads. These rods characteristic continuous threading alongside their entire duration, making an allowance for flexible use in applications requiring custom lengths or as structural supports in creation and manufacturing.
Screws: Precision in Self-Tapping Ingenuity
In comparison to bolts, screws own self-contained threading alongside their entire length, getting rid of the need for accompanying nuts and washers. This inherent threading enables screws to create their own inner threads upon insertion into a pre-drilled or self-tapping hollow, anchoring themselves securely in the material.
The self-tapping screw, a wonder of engineering, capabilities a pointed tip and competitive threading, allowing it to cut via various materials, such as metallic, timber, and plastic, readily. This functionality makes self-tapping screws indispensable in industries starting from automobile and aerospace to DIY domestic tasks, in which performance and precision are paramount.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Bolts vs. Screws
While bolts and screws percentage the not unusual reason of fastening gadgets collectively, several key differences set them aside:
Thread Type: Bolts commonly feature partial outside threading, whereas screws boast continuous threading along their complete period.
Fastening Mechanism: Bolts rely on accompanying nuts and washers for secure fastening, while screws create their own internal threads, negating the need for extra additives.
Applications: Bolts excel in applications requiring high strength and load-bearing capability, inclusive of construction and heavy equipment, whereas screws are favored for their self-tapping abilities in industries spanning automotive, electronics, and woodworking.
Choosing the Right Fastener for the Job
Selecting the suitable fastener hinges on different factors, inclusive of the substances being joined, the load-bearing requirements, and environmental conditions. Bolts shine in situations demanding sturdy connections and structural balance, whilst screws provide extraordinary efficiency and precision in self-tapping packages.
In conclusion, expertise the nuances between bolts and screws is crucial for accomplishing premiere consequences in construction, manufacturing, and numerous industries. Whether it is the reliable grip of a bolt-nut-washer trio or the precision of a self-tapping screw, each fastener performs a important role in bringing systems and products to fruition.

About Stainless Steel Bolt Fasteners -
A bolt is a form of threaded fastener with an external male thread. Bolts are closely related to screws. People misunderstand the difference between bolts and screws. Bolts are often used to make a bolted joint. This is a combination of the nut applying an axial clamping force and also the shank of the bolt acting as a dowel, pinning the joint against sideways shear forces. For this reason, many bolts have a plain unthreaded shank (called the grip length) as this makes for a better, stronger dowel. The presence of the unthreaded shank has often been given as characteristic of bolts vs. screws, but this is incidental to its use, rather than defining.

Hex slotted nuts can perform numerous advantages
Slotted Nuts
Slotted Nuts (commonly categorised as Hex Slots, Hex Slotted Crazy or Castellated Nuts) are a kind of nut designed with holes through every single center flat upon its hexagon surface to facilitate having cotter pins or safety wire for you to secure it any time attached with fasteners using drilled shanks.
Hex slotted nuts could be utilized in a lot of applications and combined with lock nuts for added security and avoiding loosening over occasion. They come in mixture sizes, materials and is done that make them worthy of use across a multitude of environments.
Hex slotted nuts can perform numerous advantages, such as decreased vibration-related loosening, easier assembly and removing procedures, and any smaller nut package size. Custom Fully Transparent Stretch Wrap Film Suppliers They're especially useful in environments by using high friction exactly where loosening could occur as a result of friction between threaded fastener post.
Hex slotted crazy are easier for you to tighten than their standard counterparts on account of having the exact same outer diameter seeing that their bolt associated with attachment - not any additional effort is important in getting issues going!
To utilize a hex slotted enthusiast, simply place it covering the head of your bolt and twist until the specified torque has happen to be reached. Next, stick in a cotter pin or split pin through its slots into any predrilled divots on bolts, screws, studs etc along with deform it so that it cannot easily often be removed - locking the hex nut firmly and preventing loosening as time passes.
Slotted hex nuts in many cases are combined with lock nuts to create an assembly that's easier to setup and prevents loosening eventually. Lock nuts appear like regular hex slots as they feature smooth ends rather then raised ones; once tightened which has a wrench, these smooth-end lock nuts can be placed over the particular tightened hex crazy before being tightened having another wrench; after tightened further even now, cotter pins are then inserted by them and towards holes on bolts or screws by using predrilled holes for more locking against vibration or perhaps loosening.
Empire Bolt & Screw has the solution for your standard or castellated (castle hex nut) hex enthusiast needs - whether that means standard slotted nuts or castellated citadel hex nuts in various sizes, threads and materials. We provide whole selections of slotted and castellated nuts inside various sizes posts and materials so call us today today - i am always glad that can help! Galvanized or stainless steel screws are designed to withstand rust and corrosion but are inclined to price greater than standard steel screws. Sheet metal screws could also be coated with zinc or nickel to modify their appearance. stainless steel machine screws The diameter, or sheet metal screw dimension, is indicated with a quantity between zero and 24 to explain the shank, although the commonest sizes used by contractors and OEM’s can be 6 to 14. The size is measured in another way depending on the head type of the screw; normally, from beneath the top of the screw to the purpose. In the case of flat or bugle heads, you'd measure the complete length of the screw since it goes to be embedded in the material in it’s entirety. Metal screws differ from wood screws in their design and particular operate, featuring design parts geared towards fastening metal-based materials and exhausting plastics. These are self-tapping screws usually used to secure sheet metal to metal, plastic, fiberglass, wooden, or different materials. Few metal supplies are pre-drilled with holes, so it's typically essential to use screws that may create their own pilot holes for max efficiency. Self-tapping metal fasteners can pierce thin metals with ease by slicing their very own threads and supply a firm maintain. Metal screws are designed to resist the stress of holding collectively heavy metal pieces for an extended interval. Each fastener additionally has a pitch that signifies the number of threads per inch of a fasteners length. Sheet metal screws are designed to securely fasten two or extra pieces of sheet metal collectively. They have a sharp, pointed end that may simply penetrate the metal floor. The two primary kinds of sheet metal screws are self-tapping and self-drilling, every having many features to select from. In short, in case you are making an attempt to connect sheet metal, you must select metal screws. They are simpler to drive into metal and will supply a greater level of strength and safety. On the other hand, wood screws are better suited to functions involving plywood, lumber, and different wood materials.

Q2) How do you calculate the clamping force of a hex nut?
Ans) The clamping force of a hex nut refers to the force exerted by the nut when it's tightened onto a bolt or threaded stud. This force is responsible for holding together components, providing a secure connection. The clamping force is a crucial parameter in ensuring proper joint integrity.
To calculate the clamping force of a hex nut, you can use the following general formula:
Clamping Force = Nut Factor * Torque
However, it's important to note that calculating the exact clamping force is complex and can depend on various factors such as the coefficient of friction, thread pitch, thread condition, surface finishes, and the material properties of the nut and bolt.
Here's a basic outline of the steps involved in calculating the clamping force:
1. Determine the Nut Factor (K): The nut factor (also known as the friction factor) represents the relationship between the torque applied to the nut and the resulting clamping force. The nut factor takes into account the coefficient of friction between the threads of the nut and bolt. It can vary based on factors such as lubrication and surface condition.
2.Measure the Applied Torque (T): Use a torque wrench to measure the torque applied when tightening the nut onto the bolt. The torque value is usually given in units of Newton-meters (Nm) or foot-pounds (lb-ft).
3. Calculate the Clamping Force: Multiply the nut factor by the applied torque to calculate the clamping force:
Clamping Force = Nut Factor * Applied Torque
Keep in mind that the nut factor is often determined empirically through testing, as it can vary based on real-world conditions. Additionally, the actual clamping force achieved in a joint can also be affected by factors like thread quality, surface finish, and the condition of the materials being joined.
In critical applications, it's advisable to consult engineering references, manufacturer specifications, or seek expert advice to ensure accurate and reliable clamping force calculations.
Note: The information provided here is a general overview and should not be used for critical applications without proper verification and consideration of all relevant factors.

Q3) What is the role of plain washers in preventing fastener embedment into surfaces?
Ans) Plain washers play a crucial role in preventing fastener embedment into surfaces, primarily by distributing the load exerted by the fastener over a larger area. This distribution of load helps to mitigate the risk of damaging or weakening the material being fastened and provides several benefits:
1. Surface Protection: When a fastener is tightened directly against a surface, especially if it's a softer material like wood or plastic, the force from the fastener can cause local deformation, compression, or even create an indentation. A plain washer acts as a buffer between the fastener and the surface, distributing the force and reducing the risk of damage.
2. Load Distribution: The flat surface of a plain washer spreads out the load applied by the fastener. This helps to prevent localized stress points, which could lead to material deformation or failure over time.
3. Embedment Prevention: In situations where a fastener is driven too deeply into a material, such as when over-tightening occurs, a plain washer can serve as a barrier, limiting the extent to which the fastener embeds into the material.
4. Reduced Friction: The washer's smooth surface reduces friction between the fastener and the surface it's being tightened against. This can help achieve more consistent and accurate torque levels during tightening.
5. Alignment Correction: In cases where the fastener hole is slightly misaligned with the receiving hole in the material, a plain washer can help correct the alignment, allowing the fastener to be seated more evenly.
6. Insulation and Vibration Damping: In some cases, plain washers also provide electrical insulation or vibration damping properties, depending on the material they are made from.
It's important to note that the selection of the right size and type of plain washer is critical to achieving these benefits. Washers come in various sizes, materials, and shapes, each suited to specific applications. For instance, a larger diameter washer offers greater load distribution, while a thicker washer can help prevent embedment more effectively.
In summary, plain washers serve as a protective buffer between fasteners and surfaces, preventing embedment, distributing loads, and ensuring a more secure and stable connection. They are essential components in maintaining the structural integrity and longevity of assemblies.

Q4) How do you calculate the shear strength of a stud bolt?
Ans) The shear strength of a stud bolt, or any fastener, is the maximum amount of force the bolt can withstand before it shears or breaks along its cross-sectional area. Calculating the shear strength involves considering the material properties of the bolt and the cross-sectional area subjected to the shear force. Here's a general formula to calculate the shear strength of a stud bolt:
Shear Strength (τ) = Shear Load (F) / Cross-Sectional Area (A)
Where:
- Shear Load (F) is the force applied parallel to the bolt's axis, causing shear stress.
- Cross-Sectional Area (A) is the area of the bolt's cross-section that is subjected to the shear load.
The shear strength is typically expressed in units of pressure, such as pounds per square inch (psi) or newtons per square millimeter (N/mm²).
Keep in mind that the actual shear strength of a stud bolt can depend on various factors, including the material type, bolt diameter, thread pitch, and surface condition. It's essential to refer to the material specifications and engineering standards to determine the precise shear strength of a specific stud bolt.
In practice, the shear strength of bolts is often provided in manufacturer's specifications or engineering reference materials for various bolt grades and sizes. These specifications are based on extensive testing and analysis of bolt materials under different conditions.
For critical applications, it's recommended to consult relevant standards, engineering handbooks, or seek guidance from experts to ensure accurate and reliable calculations of shear strength for stud bolts.
