admittedly its from 2015- i haven't poked around to see how she may have changed how she feels about it, and i know she did blurb seth's recent scifi novel (Exordia), so there's no bad blood there or anything. it's also a positive review, in general- she ends with this sentence: "I highly, highly recommend this book; I have not thought so much about something I read in a long time."

i am also coming into this as someone who has read all of seth dickinson's work for the game destiny, where he was near-singlehandedly responsible for a good oh… 80% of the interesting women (& overall interesting concepts lol!) in the game, and his writing of one of those characters in particular as a complex and flawed character got him bullied viciously off of all social media. if you've tried to find his social media presence and havent found anything, that's why. so i mayhaps have a little more emotion in the game.

THAT SAID. here are some specific parts from her review i find really fucking annoying! and color the way i feel about Memory & Desolation, despite them being so incredibly targeted at me as a classics person AND someone who fucking loves the specific sub-genre of scifi her novels are.

"[Traitor] asks a question which I find compelling as a student of an empire and as a queer woman. That question is: what do we gain by complicity? What do we – we barbaroi, we women, we queer people, we imperialized – what do we get when we say yes? When we say yes I will hide my true nature? When we say yes I will subsume myself into the beautiful machine? When we say can we speak English? Or the literature I love just happens to be written by straight white men – and mean it, too, mean it with the kind of depthless love that a person can have for a text that speaks to them, which holds up a mirror to them?"

i dont think the use of the greek word for barbarian does anything here (she also keeps coming back to the greek term orthos in her review, which also pisses me off lol), i dont think empire is a "beautiful machine," and i don't think the invocation of identity politics is useful. like. i know she's a byzantine scholar but if your first association with empire is purely a finite Historical Empire instead of, like, modern US imperialism, or British colonialism, you are going into this discussion with a certain set of values and opinions! a set of values and opinions that let you call an empire a "beautiful machine" in all earnestness. this claim probably seems unsubstantiated and nitpicky now just from this excerpt but ill come back to it with more i promise. on the idpol front, she also says immediately after this that she does believe that straight people can and should write queer people, but that they should listen to queer people when they point out those errors. she then continues:

"But then, critique: there are two points on which I think Dickinson’s portrayal of a queer protagonist has faltered, and I think both of these errors arise from the fact that he isn’t part of – as far as I know at the time of writing this review – a queer community. Firstly, I disbelieve Baru’s awareness of her own desires… …For the first portion of the book, her queerness felt more like a character trait assigned to her for reason of plot than a naturally built part of her as a person… Secondly, I wonder where queer people in Falcrest are…"

theres more to these excerpts, but. i personally didnt find the depiction of baru's desire to be unrealistic, and also this was a review of Traitor, specifically, so where on earth would baru have heard about queer people in falcrest? and more importantly, why should we care so much about queer people in the imperial core? moreover i think the way seth does it with svir is very very well done, and illustrates the hypocrisy of empire in a way that does NOT seem like what martine is asking for here!!!

"Why am I invested? I myself am a student of empire. I’m a Byzantinist. My academic work is about empire and its seductions; it is the animating principle of my professional life. And: I am myself someone who loves order over disorder. Who looks for systems in all things. Who is comforted by structures; who is concerned deeply with propriety. But here’s my real criticism of this book: I don’t buy the seduction of the Masquerade. And I think if this book fails, it’s there: in that its empire is too easily read as undesirable. As profane, unethical, fundamentally wrong. It is really overtly evil." … "The Masquerade isn’t civilized. It’s civilization, but I don’t recognize it as civilized, and this is a problem with a constructed empire. An empire relies on itself as the definition of civilization – I would footnote here Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch as a SFnal example of an empire which is built on this principle, and which, for this reader at least, achieves the facsimile. (But then my ancestors were not enslaved, we were exterminated; not annexed, but exiled. Perhaps I like the Radch better than the Masquerade because I can find a place for myself in it, and cannot imagine a place within the Masquerade someone like me would ever be safe –)"

and THIS. THIS RIGHT HERE IS MY BIGGEST PROBLEM. critiquing the masquerade as not "seductive" enough, calling it too evil to have people join it- how does someone miss the point THIS badly??? like. are you FUCKING serious??? how do you read a book about the immense violence of colonialism and your problem is that it is boohoo too violent for people to join willingly. google literally fucking anything the US has done ever!!! and the invocation of the concept of "civilized" as an objective quality, despite the recognition that the empire constructs what counts as "civilization" is so fucking unserious/simplistic/juvenile! why do you need to imagine yourself a place in the empire? in the imperial core specifically!

and i think this particular approach bleeds into her books. i read them at Least 2 years ago, so this is mostly vibes-based, and i will avoid spoilers.

there is such a focus on the allure of the imperial core, on the "beautiful machine" of the empire as she calls it. there is violence done, but it is abstracted away from the wealth of the imperial core. there are no economics there. the empire sees her independent station as a backwater, and there is some cultural tensions there, but there is no realistic violence and exploitation! it is not clear at all what maintains the empire, besides some abstract idea of trade. i also don't know what her Point is with the naming & language conventions, which are very clearly inspired in part by ancient Mayan- e.g. the empire and core planet are called Teixcalaan. and idk this may be reductive of me but i think if you are going to pull features from civilizations that have been colonized and use them to inspire fictional colonizing forces, you ARE saying something there! idk! and like, the ancient Mayan

and on the ~representation~ front, i also don't think she does a better job than seth tbqh!!! i felt like the characters getting together came out of nowhere and felt anticlimactic- there is also not the tension i think there should be with the main character being an ambassador-ish and the love interest being… idr. junior intelligence officer iirc? idk! and for all her critique of baru's desire for women not feeling "real" or present enough, i do not remember the main character in Memory having any real focus on it!

i enjoyed Memory just fine, but i don't think it says anything interesting or novel or even critical about empire, and i found her review of Traitor extremely shallow and useless, if very revealing about her own outlook on empire lol!!!

this has been at best Minorly proofread and edited but im not like, writing an academic essay on the matter and so i apologize for any inconsistencies.

oh man thanks for this this is really interesting. i went and read the whole thing and i agree a ton with your critique. i'm going to stick my thoughts below the cut because i went on for a bit here, in typical fashion.

NO BUT EXACTLY... for starters this is explicitly a novel about colonized people taking place in a colony where none of the major characters are from the empire. where, when, and how would we take the time to explore what queerness looks like for them and more importantly, like you've asked, why the hell should that be a priority for the narrative in this case.

in terms of 'i found this to be an unrealistic depiction of queer desire' 9/10 times i feel like what that means is 'i found this to be an unrelatable depiction' which is an entirely different critique. i know i'm working with two additional books worth of context that martine isn't working with here. but even taking into account just the characterization we have for baru in traitor i think this is suuuuch an unfair complaint. i'm gonna pull the entire quote she says about baru's sexuality here because i have additional specific gripes with it.

Firstly, I disbelieve Baru’s awareness of her own desires. In the first portion of the book, I do not ever feel the weight of Baru’s own awareness of her sexuality; there is an absence of carnality, a kind of intellectual version of lesbian desire which is, to me, inconsistent with the sort of desire I expect. Not until the introduction of Baru’s eventual lover Tain Hu do I get a sense of Baru as a woman who loves women. Further, considering how very much the Empire of Masks and Increastic philosophy criminalizes the sin of queer desire, I wish Baru had struggled more with the nature of her desire. For the first portion of the book, her queerness felt more like a character trait assigned to her for reason of plot than a naturally built part of her as a person. This markedly improved in the second half, where Baru notices women in a way she does not notice men.

For starters, it is insanely hypocritical to me to complain that her desire both isn't carnal enough and she processes it too intellectually, but that she isn't struggling enough with it. Baru intellectually processes things! That's her entire character from the getgo! She also has a difficult time conceptualizing other people as fully realized beings with their own agency. These character traits paired together don't make for a particularly passionate and carnal relationship to her sexuality. She is also, at her absolute oldest in this book, 21! (Or 22? I can't remember. I know she spends 3 years in aurdwynn) and has spent her entire youth being groomed to be a scholar. Of course detached intellectualism is her primary way of navigating all things. Why wouldn't it be?

Baru primary motivation is to save taranoke, she wants to save the taranoki way of life, and part of that way of life includes an acceptance of nonhetero nonmonogamous relationships. Sure, a different character arc may have involved baru actually internalizing and then having to break free of the trappings of race, gender, and sexuality that the empire tries to impose upon its citizens. but that's not baru and acting like this is a writing flaw rather than a character choice is insane to me.

There's absolutely no reason for Baru to lie awake at night pontificating about how wrong and dirty of her it is to want to have sex with women because we are never lead to believe even for a minute that Baru puts any emotional weight in incrasticism. She doesn't conceptualize it as sinful she conceptualizes it as illegal!

And "Not until the introduction of Baru’s eventual lover Tain Hu do I get a sense of Baru as a woman who loves women. " is killing me in particular because like. Yeah. Tain Hu is baru's first love. thats the point. But beyond that this is just not being able to see anything other than what she's looking for because i think the chapters covering baru's childhood make it pretty clear that her feelings for aminata and cousin lao (im not double checking the name but im pretty sure it was this) are deep and strong. the fact that they're not as explicitly and straightforwardly romantic and sexual as her relationship with tain hu doesn't change that, and in fact, points to baru's struggle with/development of her sexuality that she claims was somehow missing in this book.

like i just simply can't see anything here but someone who is seeing an emotional landscape they can't relate to and assuming that means it's flawed writing. skill issue frankly.

She's also fucking insane for acting like the masquerade is too cartoonishly evil to be appealing. once again im going to post her full quote here because i think its important to see

its empire is too easily read as undesirable. As profane, unethical, fundamentally wrong. It is really overtly evil. It punishes sexual “deviants” with mutilation and death. It murders children callously. It inflicts plague and withholds vaccines. It lobotomizes its own emperors for the sake of convincing its populace that the emperor is just. Most of all, the Masquerade is a eugenicist empire: it is explicitly founded on not purity of bloodline but on purification of bloodline, on making people useful to it. It makes people: it breeds them carefully, it indoctrinates them through schools, it uses drugs and operant conditioning to transform their minds and make them into automata tools. It commits every atrocity that a modern Western reader recognizes as abhorrent. This is a problem. It is a problem because we are asked, as readers, to believe that there are reasons besides blackmail that a person would willingly become an agent of the Masquerade. We are asked to imagine that the Masquerade is a beautiful machine.

for starters. "It commits every atrocity that a modern Western reader recognizes as abhorrent." MODERN WESTERN EMPIRES DID, AND OCCASIONALLY STILL DO, MOST OF THESE THINGS!!! THIS IS US! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! I FEEL INSANE!!!!

I think the book makes it more than explicitly clear why the empire is appealing??? it has all of the capital???? its building schools and sewage systems and importing food and goods and teaching reading and writing??? baru's own internal narrative often shows her own strife at the fact that the empire has made genuinely incredible scientific advancements that offer significant improvements in quality of life to many, many people. martine actually acknowledges this in the next paragraph of her review, and then brushes it away as not being good enough. why? what about that doesn't convince you?

she is seeming to hugely ignore the fact that in the case of aurdwynn specifically, the bureaucracy of the empire is coming in to unseat feudal aristocracy! what the masquerade offers may not be particularly tempting to most of that ruling class, but its economic opportunities are more then believably appealing to the common people. i think this is made pretty clear when baru's ploy to use the fiat bank to make loans to the aurdwynni people and basically lessen the massive tax burdens from the duchies wins her huge favor with the public.

and frankly even for the ruling class the potential economic benefits are massive too if you're willing to participate in the empire properly. yes the empire doesn't have Moral appeal. it doesn't fucking have to. it owns pretty much every economy outside of the oriati mbo. the fact that that's not enough for her is as you've pointed out really really showing her biases and blind spots. 'no reason besides blackmail' MONEY!!!! MONEY! IT'S MONEY! THIS IS A BOOK ABOUT ACCOUNTING! HOW DID YOU MISS THAT!!!

and the invocation of the concept of "civilized" as an objective quality, despite the recognition that the empire constructs what counts as "civilization" is so fucking unserious/simplistic/juvenile! why do you need to imagine yourself a place in the empire? in the imperial core specifically!

And this is really it for me too, yeah. It's gross. It's absolutely gross. "An empire isn't believably appealing unless I, personally, find it appealing" there are people alive who are eugenicists, who love community policing, who believe in race science. the masquerade is an empire for them. the thing about empires is that they are only actually empowering for an incredibly small subset of people, and the fact that You, Specifically, Arkady Martine can't imagine being one of those people in this instance doesn't make it not believable. This is a shatteringly individualist way of engaging with a work.

As for your points about the way she handles empire in her own book obviously i can't have anything to say there because i haven't read it yet, but i do absolutely agree with you on this bit:

1000% i don't think this is reductive of you. whether or not you're consciously saying anything is one question but it's a choice that absolutely doesn't exist in a vacuum. out of curiosity i googled her to see if she was of mayan descent or anything and maybe she chose that due to some personal ties to the subject matter but she doesn't seem to be. which of course i don't think means she can't or shouldn't draw any inspiration from there but i do think all of these sorts of choices are meaningful

i don't really have much to say here to round off a conclusion but. wow. deeply deeply telling review that does not particularly make me want to read anything she has written beyond this.

do you like kaeya and crepus interactions!! because this fic explores their dynamic in suuuuch a nice way that felt very refreshing to see portrayed!! perfect ratio of hurt to comfort in my opinion. overall quite lighthearted compared to my other recs though lol. good exploration of kaeyas inner conflict since a young age. yeah i love it and recommend it

I'm gonna miss your love when it's gone by imaginarypasta – A selection of scenes from Kaeya's childhood related to his relationships with his fathers, and all they have led him to be.

this one is so good!!!! i feel like its rare to see kaeyas biological father portrayed as anything other than a heartless asshole, and this fic explored kaeyas relationship with him in such a nice manner that makes for a very melancholic and. i guess bittersweet story that takes into consideration the nuance of the situation in a way that i really dont see super often. the parts about kaeyas relationship w crepus are also really well done i love it. oh and the khaenri'ah lore the author takes some liberty with is really really interesting!!

not bad for a walk on death's doorstep by b_attery – Fear is a knife’s edge. Fear is a killer. Fear is how you know you’re still alive.

my bookmark of this work said "literally the best kaeya character study ive ever read" and honestly i still stand by that. the word flow is great and the exploration of fear as such an intrinsic part of kaeya's life and as the driving force for most of his actions and feelings and responses. it's so good!!! this one contemplates kaeyas childhood both before and after his arrival in mondstadt and goes until after diluc's return. absolutely recommend it!!

Hundred-Watt Light by pepperjuice – A story about ten years of contingency plans and holding your own hand. (Because how else are you supposed to live with a weight too big to hold all alone?)

this. this rewired my brain forever. this holds the title of best kaeya character study ever along with the previous one i talked about. definitely mind the tags because it primarily deals with suicidal ideation and thoughts so, if that's a trigger then it's best to not read this one lol but still it is SO good and it explores kaeya's inner conflicts and awful coping mechanisms after having such a heavy burden thrusted upon him at an extremely early age with no good support of any kind. i absolutely love this fic it's very dear to me and i think about it sooo often it truly altered my brain chemistry

things fall apart by kernsing – Happy eighteenth, Diluc.

finally some ragbros content! sadly it isnt the reconciliation you asked for it's about when things fell apart. this is one of my favorite ever renditions of how it all went down on That Day - it reshaped some of my own headcanons, actually. this one is more from diluc's pov than kaeya's, and it's written really really well, and explores diluc's grief over his father's death in SUCH an amazing and interesting way!! and the way it parallels kaeya's own emotions and that is exactly what causes them to fight is extremely tasty i loved it. read it it's good

ATLAS PARADOX RAMBLING

dude this book. i need to talk. about it. im going insane.

everyone who hasn't read it, PLEASE DO!!! it's a dark academia book about a bunch of gay silly magic people that join a society and try to kill each other. there's time travel, a big ass polycule, aesthetic scenes, the prettiest writing style in the world, science, philosophy, and fucked family. (opposite of found family).

(extremely chaotic unorganized long rant below, with spoilers. click at your own risk)

FIRST OF ALL WHY WAS THIS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE?!!?!?

i had to power through the first one, it felt long, and unnecessary and like trekking through a JUNGLE with the thickest and most intricate ecosystem that i had to peel back and unravel for hours and hours. only to like move the plot by an inch.

BUT THIS. olivie blake found her footing because this was so good. i am aware the reviews hate on this book and some people don't like it, but personally i adore it and it's really well written.

CHARACTERS

bro they all had such wonderful voices, like they were distinct and unique from each other but not drastically, noticeably different I NEED TO LEARN FROM THIS. six of crows and the atlas six do multi povs so well <3 its like this book was made for me, each character was perfect and incredible and gay and silly and-

reina. love of my life. i look forward to all her povs because the plants are so silly and she's the best character. i said it. she's canon asexual now too YEES. i needed more of her because she was barely in the first one, and they DELIVERED. the juicy plot with her 'god complex' (ily callum) and her feelings getting hurt and learning she actually is lonely and wants friends? she's so wanda maximoff. next book better have her opening up and learning to love people or i riot (and also her killing people and being the badass she is)

parisa always my fave too, i do wish her character wasn't always talking about sex or romance, there were some great moments in this book where she showed off her telepathy powers (the prince in the tower!!) it was awesome. i'm glad they acknowledged that side of her with reina, (oh my god i ship them so much wait till i rant about them-) but dude i still HATE DALTON. SO MUCH. OH MY GOD. every time it's her pov i dread seeing dalton, i wish she could give that up. generic white men should die.

CALLUM. whatever turned him from complex, daunting, and a psychopath last book to janus from sanders sides this book- beautiful choice. he's literally the one sassy wine-sipping gay aunt that feels nothing and everything at once, also extremely mentally ill and depressed. he's SO FUNNY. his povs are fucking hilarious to read, and he quickly became one of my faves bc of how complex he is. i'm not smart enough to decipher and psychoanalyze him but god i LOVE CHARACTERS LIKE THIS.

i don't know what happened but nico is literally one of my faves now too, he's so silly and sweet and kind and i loved his relationships with everyone this book. like him trying to murder tristan in multiple different ways oml. he's my bbg. tristan was hit or miss for me, i did find him interesting but he's not my favourite. doesn't mean i hate him, he's so very british, i feel it radiating off the page. libby my queen my icon, her dream povs were so trippy i loved it- so so realistic to a real dream, that was the most surprising and unique part. also my bisexual queen seducing belen??

i did not like ezra and atlas was a little iffy here and there but tbh the cast was so well rounded and interesting and unique but paralleled each other so well?? THE RELATIONSHIPS. I DONT THINK ANY BOOK HAS THIS INTRICATE WEB-LIKE RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER. they're one big polycule.

RELATIONSHIPS

nico and libby <3 i love them so much as siblings/queerplatonic partners. i don't ship them romantically, because i LOVE how they subverted the eye-rolling predictable ' YA academic rivals enemies to lovers' trope. when i started TAS, i immediately thought they were gonna get together and assumed the worst. but no, they still had the banter and importance in their relationship but without the romance? instead both of them were gay af. it's beautiful. i love subverting tropes so much. they're each other's 'other half' and they're hilarious together.

NICO AND TRISTAN. they were such a highlight this book, it was unexpected but so funny. nico trying to murder tristan and their little talks because 'they're not friends...just coworkers' yeah right, the best friendships start with creatively murdering each other. tristan being droll and chill af, and then nico bouncing off the walls my adhd king.

reina and nico broke me?? like that one chapter where they sparred and caught up with each other and reina was guarding her hurt feelings. DUDE THAT KILLED ME. made me stare at the ceiling for a good minute. their friendship is everything to me, they contrast each other so well. she deserves to be treated better- when they had that projection chapter and she saw that nico downplayed her skills...like she was good, but not good enough for him to care about her. AGGHGH.

REINA AND PARISA. NOW THIS. THIS HOOKED ME INTO THE BOOK. i ship them so bad guys. they parallel each other and are both hot and enemies to lovers and wlw slow burn and- look. reina is asexual, therefore the only person to truly see and understand parisa for who she is, and not be influenced by her body. like that one projection. she can help parisa understand HERSELF and who she is past her sexual desirability. how to love someone again. romantically. then, on the flip side, parisa can help reina see and understand OTHERS. reina only sees people as one trait, cut and dry- without any of the complex feelings. parisa is a telepath, she knows how to read others. THEY CAN BOTH HELP EACH OTHER AND LOVE EACH OTHER IN WAYS THEY NEVER COULD HAVE OMFDADJFLSKJADFL- also reina pinned her against a wall and they want to kill each other and every time they interact i scream into my pillow-

now we just gotta play the familiar game "IS IT DELUSION OR IS IT JUST SLOW BURN" and find out whether their insane chemistry pays off in book 3.

the nico parisa scene was actually sweet ngl, even though i don't ship them. the whole callum and tristan thing was so bitter exes situationship coded and i ate every second up. especially that last conversation. AND OFC. GIDEON AND NICO?!!! AAAAA THEY WERE SO CUTE THEY'RE ENDGAME I SCREAMED WHEN THEY KISSED DUDE THEYRE SO-

PLOT

now for the actual plot. this book has so many interesting subjects and philosophies and debates i'm not smart enough for this. but past all the aesthetic glamour, it's science, time travel, dreams, multiverses, fate, reality, and the complexities of the human mind. and my god it's fascinating as fuck.

do i have any idea what they do in this society?? NO. am i entertained? YES. especially that whole explosion paradox to bring libby back to the future. the whole powering the connections via aurora borealis? the whole debate about being gods? i love it. i love it.

alright im so sorry for that rant, i gotta go now but DUDE I LOVE THIS BOOK NO MATTER HOW WEIRD IT WAS

I'll do a couple that I didn't get to do

@reapersxfolly Mae is an amazing writer and an amazing artist and I'm biased perhaps because I very clearly love Tseng but they've always had such a good grasp on him and its so validating to have similar thoughts and then also very thought provoking to have ones that differ Mae's writing, their pose, is always something I've admired. They write so well and in tones that suit who they're writing And their OC work is so compelling that even if they've not been on Ashe as much lately, and even if Ashe is going to have more SOLDIER focus now, she will always be canon to me

@shinrasfirst Min is integral to my Tseng; their Rufus, their Rude, their Zack all have such an influence. Min is one of the people from the very begining of his lifespan that made him stick They care so much about their characters, down to all these little details. @endweapon As I've said, I love Dirge and i love anyone who loves Dirge. Count has the difficult task of writing a character who has a mainline game based around him as the antagonist but he is only actually in the mobile game as himself. And yet with some of the most limited and conflicting information a character can have, they've got one of the most complex muses that I follow here. Their mastery over Weiss is a subconscious reason I don't write mine much anymore; I'm so satisfied with seeing theirs around that i dont feel much of a need (and i mean this entirely positively, its a weird thing to phrase)

@speedchasing Moogle comes and goes but every time I see them come back I get so excited. I love their Roche so much. He is so alive; they've taken a new edition who's biggest point is comic relief and they've written so much brilliance into him. I care so much for their flashy bastard. No matter how canon might treat Roche, Moogle's is more real and more canon to me

@ivory-paragon James is brilliant. I most admire their Ru from a distance but I love him; he's so detailed and complex. Their writing is really wonderful and you have to respect such a long commitment to a character

That Wasn’t Me, That Was Patricia: Split, ST, TFS, and Miss Patricia vs Patricia Newby

So, I remembered that “Split,” is on the S4 board- well, technically, the movie “Unbreakable,” is on the board, which is the third movie in the trilogy that Split is part of (Glass, Split, and Unbreakable), and what I’m talking about today is about the series as a whole/point is, that whole story is confirmed inspo:

And in Split, there’s a character named Kevin, and Kevin has 23 personalities (and then a 24th extra personality called The Beast, but we’ll get to that in another post), and one of those personalities is named Patricia:

And in TFS, not only is Patty’s full name Patricia, but Mr Newby also repeatedly calls her Patricia during the play.

And in Split, one of Patricia’s characteristics is that she sings- for example, she sings to one of the other personalities, Hedwig, which reminds me of Patty’s singing being such a core part of her character in TFS:

There’s also “that wasn’t me, that was Patricia,” versus TFS Henry “it wasnt me” in reference to the cave in Nevada:

Technically, this “that was Patricia” line doesn’t appear in the movie- HOWEVER, it was SUCH a huge meme/reference to the movie that I won’t be surprised if Henry’s TFS dialogue was written in reference to that joke as a way of referencing the whole Split/Patricia thing.

And also in Split, the question of whether or not two identities can coexist/front at the same time- and the answer is yes, which reminds me of the TFS scene where “Henry” is in the attic with Alice, and Alice asks “Where’s Henry?” and “Henry” responds with “he’s right here,” and Alice says “you’re not Henry, you’re not him,” and Henry was seemingly referring to himself in 3rd person- or, instead, he’s NOT HENRY, like Alice said, but with Henry being “right here,” it feels like this Not Henry guy is coexisting with Henry in a way that’s very similar to how two identities coexisting at the same time is described in Split:

And now, I’m wondering if Patty and Henry are somehow connected to Brenner’s mind or inside of his mind/have somehow been “absorbed” by him.

Especially with one of the Brenners in the NINA bunker talking about how 001 “absorbs” his victims versus all of the weird Brenner-001 stuff (including his line during TFS where he says “no ONE except for me Henry”), and the idea that the absorption abilities in ST could be very similar to Kevin’s multiple personalities in Split, as 001 canonically absorbs the memories, personalities, everything from his victims:

(Also, the point specifically about abilities getting absorbed is interesting re: Patty’s singing vs Patricia singing & the fact that Split brings up that certain personalities will have abilities that the other personalities dont have, despite all being in the dame body- it’s interesting, because TFS makes a point of showing us in the beginning that Henry is NOT good at singing whatsoever- and yet, at the end of TFS, when he sings to El, his singing has vastly improved. Almost like he somehow absorbed the skill from Patty, which would align with what I’m talking about here re: some sort of weird Henry-Patty-Brenner mental connection. Which also makes me wonder about Henry’s drawing skills in-show vs the fact that in-show Brenner is shown to not be good at drawing- are we going to get a weird version of Brenner that CAN draw because he’s connected to Henry/absorbed him/whatever???)

So, instead of a literal DID situation, it’s much more of a figurative one, I want to be super clear that I’m not saying that Henry and Patty are just the result of Brenner actually having multiple personalities- I’m saying that there’s weird connections between Brenner and 001 and the idea of Brenner somehow being 001, and the whole Brenner-Edward merge idea, and then the fact that 001’s canon absorption powers could appear similarly to Kevin’s multiple personalities, and that Patty and TFS Henry were real actual separate people, but may have gotten absorbed by 001/absorbed into the hivemind, and are now in some sort of weird Brenner-hivemind-simulation situation in TFS.

Hell, part of me wonders if that’s what’s going on with everyone in TFS- after all, basically all of the characters get referred to as “ONE” in some way at some point, and there’s all of the weirdness re: TFS being some sort of weird simulation and having all of these 1970s anachronisms, such as the Chuck E’s In Love reference & Rachel, Nevada not existing until 1978.

Anyway! Lots to think about!

Mammon-Craves-Hugs Anon (Thanks for the name.)

The sins are such fascinating characters. I’m hoping Sinsmas lives up to its name. I would kill for the sins just hanging together like it’s Smiling Friends because nothing is funnier than jacked up creatures doing mundane tasks. (An episode like this t-shirt would be worth my savings: https://sharkrobot(.)com/products/sinful-holiday)

I’m not sure what I would enjoy more. Mammon doubling down and deteriorating into the ultimate state of pathetic billionaire manbaby or trying become a better person and the entire experience for him is like being dragged across broken glass. Whatever route, I want him to be so true to his ugly feelings the rawness makes everyone uncomfortable to the point where you almost pity him but then you don’t because of the extent of his sins.

Mammon is a very cathartic character because he’s so expressive in his depravity. He’s everything wrong with parents trying to live through their children, bosses trying to pretend to be family to exploit people, capitalism in general all while being very funny. S2E07 feels so good because he gets flipped off, spat on, and defied. But it’s not enough for me. I want to wring every last drop of that out of him. In the kind of way someone might want to squeeze a cute animal to death.

Ironically Umineko has plot-relevant sexism (commentary on social conservatism and its effects on women) and much more complex female characters. I’m sorry I keep bringing this game up its themes are so relevant to Mammon and some of your complaints I can’t help myself. I basically want him to have a Umineko type breakdown. (I really do love him and think he’s wonderful I promise.)

You have expressed the Mammon experience so well. A chewtoy you dont want to throw away but also love to step on. I truly believe he’ll be petty as f*ck around the other sins and he makes everyone pissed off, the best he’ll do is “all I did was exploit him a little bit :( I don’t understand. Cmon guys” Oh man 😭 Bee going rabid and attacking him like a chew toy I need it. I NEED an episode of fun, no melodrama, no crying and self pity, evil bastards being evil and hilarious and not being excused by a sad story. Even satirise the sad story trope with Mammon saying “when I was a young boy…I missed a 50% discount on tuna cause I was a day late…I’ve never told anyone that story WHY ARENT YOU CRYING??”

I really need pathetic millionaire man baby Mammon personally. Not everyone has to grow as a character or have a sad story, right now he’s perfectly written and I don’t need that to change. Not at least for a loooong time.

Id like to see Bee again and have her just be a little bit more evil, and recast by another similar VA with a stronger voice not a celeb or broadway actor we need professional voice actors. I hate to think she hates mammon because their besties dynamic could be so funny. The only female sin so far has had less than ten goddamn minutes of screen time while Ozzie has had three episodes, and Mammon has had a ton already with him being the first foreshadowed sin and his own entire special. Her design is just too excessive, all the tiny details are insane and a nightmare to animate she needs to lessen it a little. Id give her a completely blank red dress and lose the molten hair even though I do find it quite pretty.

It’s up to you to decide which character is which I like to think poor Fizz is probably Pim or Mammon and the sister Amy is Bee and Tex 😭 oh I hope they recast Tex too because Bee’s brother(?) and boyfriend having the same voice is a bit weird

I’m very interested in your Umineko comparisons I haven’t heard of it before but it’s helping me understand quite a bit.

Oh I’m so glad you and plant anon agree with me on my vn red flags/icks! Like I said a lot of the red flags and icks I tend to have are really subjective so I get that some people will love what I kinda hate but it’s nice to see I’m not alone on stuff :)

Also, is it bad that I kinda wanna hear more about Heir to Love and Lie? I’ve never played any Fictif games but this sounds like some hot gossip I want in on, tell me more about how bad of a game it is lol. From an outsider perspective I think it’s kinda funny how it’s like “Yes the Fictif app has a bunch of great and fun stories with a ton of good content- NO DONT LOOK AT THAT STORY ITS HIDEOUS-” I know the stories are probably made by different teams so it makes sense that there’s differences in quality but still

Last Legacy and now Roadkill have peaked my interest since I’ve seen you talk about it here (I had never heard of Fictif at all before) but I’ve been a little hesitant to give the games a try because they’re mobile games and frankly I’m not the biggest fan of playing vn style games on mobile, I used to all the time but the grinding for stuff like story keys just to get content that may or may not be good kinda grated on me so I stopped and haven’t looked back. But idk maybe I’ll decide to give Fictif a chance when I have the time, your love for the games are definitely convincing me to give it a shot :)

Ok so i’ll start by saying that you should def play roadkil, last legacy and monster manor on the fictif app, WITH A CRACKED VERSION! If you have an Android play with a mod app and you won’t have to pay for the special choice ( you still have to wait for keys tho but it’s manageable) I personally use Modyolo. With the mod there is no grind, you just wait for your keys to regenerate to play the chapters.

Why you should play last legacy ? Last legacy is a really well written fantasy romance made by queers, for queers with good queers characters. The narrative is limited but realize that fans of this game haven’t had update in 2 years and we all still love this, that how good the game is for us. What I really appreciate is the approach of the romance, the well-written worldbuilding, and the interesting plot and evolution of the li throughout the story + bonus points the art is really pretty + the music is awesome

This is an otome where you feel the passion of the dev because of all the details and care they put into the characters. It sad that we’ll never get an ending but just because it’s my second favorite otome after Our life i really recomand.

Now another wonderful story on the app is Monster manor. It’s a reviseted tale of beauty and the beast where mc is a reparator that come helps the resident of the manor to fix the place and also fix their issue. Again it’s very well written and although you can get subtile subtext on romance this one is very axed on exploring the character's mental health and their story of self-improvement. ALSO IT HAS A CANON TRANS DRAGON CREATURE WHO’S THE SWEETEST I LOVE HIM HE’S SO WHOLESOME-

Bonus the music is so good i even added it on my spotify- and good art

Monster Manor is one of those stories that leave a very specific feeling in you. I don't know how to describe it but it just has a lot of wholesomeness and character going troughs sad but relatable problems that you see get better and makes you happy that they're healing.

THE BROMANCE OF THIS GAME IS SO GOOD I swear

Objectively: This game feels like a wild mess of fan fiction with random scenario after scenario and cliché horror moments, but oh man the ambiance. The best trio of Li, they are close friends, and in the 3 routes the group is just such an amazing friend group. The characters are lovely and it's like reading a bad yet good wattpad fanfic : well written ? no ? But the ideas ? good !

Like i said, this game is based on cliché of horror movies but also on american culture ( which I learned trought this game lol ). It has longer chapters than the other two games (except Tess but Tess got hit by the sexism of a greedy company that wants shirtless men in dating sim to attract gurls ) BUT they all shine.

Poe's route had me ugly crying in the end, Howie's ending is AWFULL but I had a great time, Tess is actually a superbe F Li even whith the dev having to cut her short and ruin her ending, she shine very britgh in the other routes and her own ( for ex she's the one with a shotgun and the one that won you and howie a teddy bear )

I really need more people to play roadkill because it's an underated banger in my opinion and it has many great scenes in the mess of scenarios ( the intro is really good for ecxemple )

Like, when I say not all game needs to be well written? That's what I'm talking about, this one is a hot delightful mess

So much has happened lately in one day! Apparently Bad has to do a survey for the fed, Cellbit has done the final code/enigma, Forever's plan to leave the island, Pac&Mike's plan against Foolish, and Roier found a book that Foolish possibly wrote with a gun in the grandma room of Cellbit's castle.

I find all of them interesting, but since im massively biased, i wanna focus on Foolish's and Bad's since im super curious with what's been happening to them. The questions seem like they plan to do something to change themselves, maybe they'll make actual changes? It'll be interesting if they actually listen to the suggestions and answers of the different members. Bad used the reward in order to ask the possible entities the federation has created, which is pretty smart since itll answer several of the questions we have, including the code, the eggs, and the island overall. It's interesting that the federation is rewarding or making transactions with this, I guess its self aware of everyone's distrust. If they ever do answer the question honestly, i feel like they'll be just as vague, but at least they're giving answers unlike the past months lmao

About Foolish's book and gun in Cellbit's castle, the thing is, theres at least 2 possibilities:

Richas was the one that put it, including the gun! Since he has a gun himself and may know some spanish, and is there to simply hide it for fun or for others to also possibly get it.

Foolish hid it, changed the contents of the book ( since the book wasn't with codes nor written in spanish before ) because he wanted to give a gun for fun! This is indicated further based on Foolish's (supposed to be qsmp) recent stream with the emoji as Grandma and his statements about his guns to Forever, saying he already has possible plans behind it. This means he did this offstream ;)

It's definitely leaning more towards Foolish, especially the overall mannerisms of the book, with the middle finger at the end of the page and random codes. But i wonder why he would do it in general, most likely for fun since its not like many ppl have any ammo for the gun. Yet I cant help but feel like its such a weird move, especially now that many people suspect him to be working for the federation! But this does establish that he would never be fully with the feds, which are definitely against spreading around guns lmaoo

I'm not super informed about Pac&Mike's possible plan, but from what I know they may use Rey(Phoenix) as a hostage, possibly do something to Foolish's dragon (Keep in mind they will be avoiding hurting Leo here), or kill him after an interrogation;

Killing him off wont be too incriminating, maybe except the badge but thats it really it

Interrogating him may be useful as long as they don't go in circles like the previous interrogations, its best to listen but also dont expect a direct answer from him. Imo its best to keep it casual, but if they don't have the patience, then go off

Rey as a hostage - Maybe possibly can work since he can be very attached to animals, i.e Mr. Mustard, but it depends highly if he feels actually threatened.

Destruction of Foolish's Dragon - Easier but more riskier to execute, probably should be the last resort!

If theres one thing i would recommend when it comes to trying to get through to Foolish, Bad probably knows more tactics since he knows Foolish very well. I know the trap/revenge will be done tomorrow but I feel like they could've benefited from taking advice from Bad at some point. Not sure if this is confirmed but if Foolish does stream tomorrow I wonder how he'll react to Pac&Mike's experiences. Since his moral compass is nowhere near similar to theres, I think they may misunderstand his intentions based solely off of his not so straight morals. If Mike ever does do revenge, from what I know of Foolish, he would never clap back at Mike (unless if it involves Leo and his family). Foolish is pretty chill and tries not to maintain any grudges, so if he was killed off, I think he would understand. In the end though, I do hope they come to an understanding! Foolish definitely still has to lie just because of his job lmao buttt, I think they can still come to an understanding without all the info he has.

Thoughts while reading Trimax Vol 13!

Wow we're reaching the end, its kinda crazy but its been a wonderful time. Thank you to Revenant Ghost for organizing this book club!! This was such a fun way to read Trimax for the first time and to see others thoughts on it as well

I love this dynamic of them working together really well while still keeping their own personalities. Its really interesting character design for Livio/Razlo and its a great part of their character arc

its no secret that in the flesh is one of the only things fnaf fans know about fazbear frights and its imfamous for its story (which i dont blame people to be disgusted about)

but have you ever wondered what it was plot-wise but you couldnt have been bothered to read the summary on the wiki, couldnt find the book on your own to read or you just didnt want read the main reason people hate it? no? well too bad

as your local faz fright fan i decided to reread it and make a (incoherent) post made in 4 hours talking about it just because, small screenshots included (trying to not focus enterly on that)

now the story just starts out with matt, our protag, telling us all about how hard game making is for a page or two, theres nothing interesting of note moving on

now right after this hes playing his game, springtraps revenge, a VR game which is just a maze with puzzles where you have to escape springtrap, and 1. i got jumpscared by him describing springtrap as hannabel lecter and 2. the fact that springtrap is described as 'a child of his rage' which i just find hilarious in a ironic way

now in the game hes in a maze and he has to escape using 4 doors, and because its randomized he doesnt know which door would have the 1-in-4 chance of killing him, and long story short he looses! twice

he gets angry enough so that he throws his vr headset after the fact and when his coworker named jamie wanted to walk in to tell him hi he snaps at her

and immediatly after this we get afew paragrapths talking about matt and his previous wife, hannah

it starts off as cute, them both meeting in chemistry class in highschool, matt then started to have gotten bored of being married as it seemed to be the same thing every day, hannah having wanted kids and matt not wanting to

now he has the audacity to say that her being pregnant that she would loose her petite figure and that she had called him shallow and threw a glass of water on his face (HONESTLY very deserved)

and he had met some woman named brianna as a friend which had led to them divorcing after their annervary because of hannah seeing brianna in a bikini on his computer (hi matt, i dont believe you about you and brianna just being friends. at all. btw.)

(also i need to say this right now before anyone kills me: matt is written to be an asshole on purpose, i know that very well and it shows up how he treats people, i know its also in his perspective which is why everyone is described as it is, i know other protags have been assholes one way or another as most of my faves have been, i just dont like matt myself but if ur like one of the 3 matt fans ur cool with me and im not saying you cant like him just saying this so people dont tell me how dumb i am)

having been mad that springtrap killed him for the 3rd time this book he decides to change up the coding, so that springtrap can just, walk around forever in the maze and spedup the gameframe by 1000 so is like extra sad i guess, matt talks about himself like a god controlling a rabbit which i found kinda funny, (the voice of woody) YOU! ARE! SOME! GUY!

now here we meet the next important side-character called jason, hes matts roommate he seems friendly and they seem to be on good terms so far

he and jason watch TV and he thinks about how it was like in collage, "no complicated female emotions" having takeouts and TV and video games all day, however as time went by those feelings of being carefree are wearing off,

but thats unrelated as theyre watching the TV show he thinks about how violent it is and fantisizing how he wants to kill springtrap, which is hilarious to me.. “i saw him kill me in the vr game!!!” girl… what were YOU doing progamming him 👀 /ref

now a tiny timeskip, matt is back at his job and he is testing the VR game again, he is excited to see springtrap run around in circles like a lost child or whatever and gets a surprise

gonna be honest i think thats kinda metal how it sounds (if we ignore how the story is gonna continue for a moment) why is this the 3rd time i see disembowlment in a series i like.... 3rd penny.... werid it happened thrice

tldr springtrap has been making a clone of himself very so often and killing himself which is funny out of context because all it has as a game mechanic is to chase you and kill you, and the rabbit is now gone and apparently not in the code and considering matt has a deadline he is screwed and he goes in the vr game and just finds him . disembowled and gets an electrical shock

ANYWAYS. NOT IMPORTANT ITS TIME TO INVOLVE MORE WOMEN

jason has been setting up matt for a double date with two girls: eve and meghan, and matt is not happy that eve is his date (which im gonna assume its a blind date? not specified)

and the first thing he does is look at this girl, go "wow she fucking sucks" and starts thinking about the woman on his roommates date

"matt couldnt figure out why she didnt sound ehtusiastic" i am going to killl you........ and then kill you again

anyways they both take their own cars to the resturant, eve and matt just have a talk thats like "you work on fnaf? my brother loves fnaf" "what do you do" "IT, jason thought itd be nice of us to know" "tech is the last thing i want to think about when im home" "me too"

this made me giggle. moving on

matt and meghan get the same food while jason and eve get spaghetti and matt is just like "yknow what, maybe i should have gotten the hotter one"

so matt is like "cant have a goodtime without money" and eve is like "thats not true :>" and matt in his mind is like "what the hell, how could she do this to me"

now for the rest of the date matt just goes on and only talks about himself, eve and jason both go to the bathroom and this is where he starts to try to impress meghan

matt is that "you not rockin with me ?! im gonna kill myself" image personified

and now this is where the pregnancy symptons come in, feeling quesy, he drinks coffee and has toast and is sick, deciding to go to work untill lunchtime and nothing had worked at this point at all, nothing too interesting to point out here

obvously now matt is irritated again, given how he cannot fix the damn thing, gary, a unimportant guy you wont see him again after this, comes up to him and asks "heyyy watcha doing!!!!!!" meanwhile matt is trying not to throw up

I need more people to talk about the manga I’m in love with the villainess. It caught my eye bc I love mangas about people reincarnated into love games as the villain. This is totally not that, but it was reincarnation into a game and gay. And oh my god. Oh my god. It exceeded my expectations soso much. It is so good. Please give it a read. Please have more people in translations to keep it going. Reasons why its so incredibly good:

1) ITS GAY!! LESBIANS HAROLD!!!! The main character is a lesbian. She says it straight up admitting she is a homosexual. She is also fully aware and notes that her love is not treated as equal, and on top of that she is reincarnated as the main character of the game, that is someone poor and not of nobility.

2) the targets are the princes, but as stated, the girl who reincarnated is a lesbian. And despite the hate she might get, she is straight up about that. But the princes are aware of that, and they support her. Not her relationship with claire (the villainess in question) because Claire says she is heterosexual, but they are aware of Rei (the main character) being a homosexual and respect her. They are her friends, not chasing after her

3) there’s a political conflict that so far is well written. At first i was nervous because all main characters are nobility except for Rei, but Rei’s love for claire goes above whatever she thinks politically. So wondered if the author’s intention was for us to support the nobility and see the common folk starting a revolution as the enemy (and they did do bad things. They wanted to hurt the nobility’s children after one of them almost killed a common folk). But no. The nobility who are the main characters (the princes and claire) become more aware of this. Claire started pretentious, but then saw first hand how (even if it was an accident) a noble almost killed a student for simply bad mouthing him and recognized how they shouldn’t get away with so much. All noble main characters recognized the common folk SHOULD be treated as equals. And when some of their common folk friends betrayed them and almost had them killed, they recognized where the sentiments came from and didn’t resent them. Instead, Claire (the main person betrayed) went up and reinforced the love she still felt for the people that betrayed her (i dont wanna spoil even more) but it was a beautifully done arc of sorrow, grief, resentment, and all the conflictive emotions.

4) the manga isn’t done. There’s still more to be done in the political aspect. One of the princes is even aware of the disparity of education between normal people and people with money, and how that NEEDS to change, and recognized that the nobility shouldn’t exist for eternity. That it might end soon. Because to govern all common folk need is education. Which they deserve. That’s a great set up future arcs because this manga is very much ongoing (it only has 20 chapters up!!!)

5) grief. It is early introduced as it came in the latest chap 20 (which is the last translated chapter) but my god did they do it right. I cried on it. The way that they described how after a major conflict people went back to normal but the scars stayed. How the noble who almost killed someone in a fight (even as an accident) was not punished bc the gov favors the nobles but he still went and apologized and the manga made it clear that does not clean the sin away and the guy who almost died carries the fear and anger with him. How the people who witnessed the common folk revolting are still alert in school (they are children!!!) but understand WHY the people were mad. People aware that Rei (main character) has to be careful about her love, and how Rei is very self aware of that. She can’t display the fact that she is a lesbian out and about, and she herself doesn’t think she will ever find someone who loves her back that’s a woman (it will be Claire lmao). The fact that the main characters all know this and still wish to protect her and the common folk bc they understand the nuance behind the actions of people’s rage. The grief we started to see in chap 20 of some nobles’ families that were victims of common folk raging against a system that’s against them, and how that feeds into the cycle of violence and resentment (not that I disagree with violent protests to get gov’s attention, but i do agree killing is never the answer).

Overall is a very nuanced manga and very beautifully written. It starts silly, with the silly little lesbian just chasing after a girl who hates her. But it progresses into a lot more. The characters are complex and so is their world. Its heavy on the politics on all sides, and real in how the main character doesn’t suffer because she is a lesbian, but she knows she could. And how all the main cast is supportive of her and care for her and wish to see her success regardless of who she loves or her status, and now after the last arc (chap 20) they are also aware of the systems that keep people on place and the roles they play as oppressors or victims of it. And how despite being students and children, they have a hand in changing/influencing said systems (and i’m so excited to see what’s to come from that).

Its so beautiful and is gay and the main character is a cute little lesbian. Wish people more saw it and recognized and translated it. The translation seems slow bc is not super popular. I would even say this would make such a good and compelling anime (not yet though there’s still not enough material).

PLEASE GIVE IT A CHANCE

More importantly: the lesbians AREN’T A FETISH OR GETTING INTO COMPROMISING POSITIONS FOR THE SAKE OF SEXUALIZING THEM. And Claire is very much starting to feel for Rei but not understanding it. Its a slow burn!!! For lesbians!!!!

suna relationship headcanons? hes my fav charater and i loved your osamu Christmas cookies fanfic so i went to go see some more things you have written and i noticed that there was nothing for suna, and i really like your work so i was wondering if you could possibly write something for him. its perfectly fine if you dont have the time or just done want to.

Okay listen, being with suna might be one of the most chill things out there, like on a scale of all haikyuu characters he’s #1

But let’s start at the beginning

Suna is lowkey about his feelings. He keeps 98% of his feelings to himself and works through stuff on his own, and most of the time unfortunately he doesn’t find a solution for his problems like this and he doesn’t know how to approach things, ESPECIALLY when it comes to… love

When he was younger his family referred to him as a late boomer bc he never brought home a partner

The thing is… There were people he was interested in. But it never lasted long, or the feeling was not intense enough in order for him to actually consider making a move. It never bugged him.

Well, until High School when he got to know the Miya twins and (unfortunately) became friends with them quite quickly. And they were just so … so … much. So much of everything. Suna did not like that, he found their bickering to be amusing at best, a funny video on his phone he can replay for a laugh. But sometimes they came up with these silly competitions and bets. And sadly, he was involved in them quite soon after getting to know them. It was dumb insignificant stuff most of the time. Slowly steal Aran’s pens, one at a time out of his pencil case until none were remaining. Sometimes they also came up with stuff involving… well… romance. They were teenagers after all, it’s a quite prominent topic. Suna just made a face whenever the topic came up and of course the twins noticed his apprehensiveness towards the topic fast enough to come up with a plan. “Hey Suna, make a conversation longer than two minutes with a person you bump into today. Dare. We’ll clean the club room in your stead.” Suna hated that idea. What he heated even more though, was doing “unnecessary” tasks like moving too much while cleaning. Kita took care of that anyways. So he just sighed and nodded. Fine, then. Bold of them to assume he’d bump into anyone at all, he’s tall enough to clearly see everyone around him, there was no way someone would actually manage to bump into him without him avoiding it.

Or so he thought, because he did not see your clumsiness coming. How could he have. You were carrying big maps in your arms, a few too many for your size and arm length. Shame on you for being foolish enough to think you could carry the materials for two people since your friend was sick today. So after class, as Suna made his way up the stairs to his classroom, you came stumbling down with the maps in your arms threatening to fall all over the place. You almost managed to prevent the crisis. Almost. Someone must have lost a candy wrapper earlier today and not noticed. Now, with the tile floor of the stairs along with your slippery shoes, it was only a matter of time before you slipped and fell. You only caught a glimpse of someone coming up the stairs you were walking down. Inan attempt to save not anly your life and theirs you let go of the maps and cried out a “WAtch OUt-!” Suna looked up then, eyes widening as he watched the maps collapse down the stairs in front of him. He pressed his body to the railing, while holding out an arm to try and catch the falling materials. He did not succeed in that, but instead caught hold of your outstretched hand that was gripping after the maps. Surprised by the sudden skin contact you yelped and came to a hold in a weird crouching position in front of him, his long fingers wrapped around your wrist which most likely prevented you from falling to your knees completely.

Both of you shared a look before watching the maps rol down the last flight of stairs and finally stop at the foot of the platform. You sighed at the sight. “Great.” Was all you could utter in a less motivated tone now. Then you remembered the boy next to you, with your wrist still in his hold. “Uh, thanks for saving my life.” Suna was still perplexed. Did the Miyas have telekinetic powers? Did they plan this? “You’re welcome.” A quite polite answer from him. “Saved my own in the process, it seems.” He nodded towards the bundle of maps at the foot of the stairs. You could just answer with a helpless sound. “Sorry for this. Almost didn’t see you, I must have slipped on something.” Suna could still just look at your figure. He felt quite captivated by the way you talked to him so effortlessly despite never having met him. He was not rude, just quiet. He greeted others with silent nods and never made small talk. And here you were blabbering about how you got in this situation in the first place, talking about your geography teacher and sick friend, forming the grandest apology he’s ever heard from another teenager. Suna was so captivated that in his trance he said something you would have never heard him say: “So, do you need help carrying those?” A phrase his teammates never heard him say before. Suna Rintarou? Doing work he doesn’t have to do? What was wrong with him.

Suna is the type of guy that’s quite oblivious to his own feelings and for a big part also those of others. It’s a result of never paying attention when he felt a twinge of affection for people in the past. After your first encounter, Suna often found himself hanging out with you. The twins didn’t even know of your existence for the first few weeks. Suna just kept disappearing during breaks without a word, he was the first to leave practice and he spent even more time looking down at his phone. They first met you at a match, where you greeted Suna with a big smile and wave and shouted his name to cheer him on. “my gawd, he’s gotten himself a fan.” could be heard from Atsumu, who felt a twinge of jealousy and earned a kick from his brother. You hung around them a lot more afterwards and learned their antics personally, after Suna had spent way too much time ranting about them in your lunch break meetings or through text messages. There were weeks filled with those meetups and phone calls, you even met at the twins’ home to play video games, you came to his matches and sometimes to watch his practice, too. Weeks until Atsumu exploded after practice one day, grabbed Suna’s collar and shouted: “So what’s this with Y/N, huh? You just playin’ or somethin’? What’s wrong with ya?”

Suna did not know what he was talking about right of the bat. His eyes wandered to Osamu, who was usually a bit more calm and level-headed. He usually saved Suna from these situations. This time though he stood next to his brother and had the same look on his face. “Do you like them, you giant loaf, or nah?”

DID he like you? Of course he did, otherwise he wouldn’t hang out with you. “You stupid bloke, that’s not what we meant!” “Are ya in love with ‘em?” Oh. Is that why he felt so weird hanging out with you, compared to when he was hangout out with the team? Was that the reason why he felt so light and carefree with you? Is that why he texted you first and last thing in the day? When the Miyas noticed that clearly, they had reached something in him, they let go of him. “Man, ya gotta make a move. Y/N’s definitely into you but they’re way too nice to make the first move. Don’t wanna get rejected, I guess.” With those words Osamu gave him a pat on the shoulder and left.

It took Suna another two weeks to think about all this. Was he finally in love now? Was he so stupid he didn’t even notice how much nicer you were to him than your other friends?

His confession came unplanned. It was before an important qualifying match for nationals. He wasn’t nervous before those, usually. But today you were there. When he saw you waiting in the big hall before the gym, clad in Inarizaki colors and colourful smudges on your cheeks, holding a bigger box with something, looking out for… Well, most likely him, his heart definitely did some gymnastics he wasn't used to. When you finally caught sight of him and the team you got all excited, smiling from ear to ear and almost toppling over in the process, he had to look away and gulp. You were so so adorable and nice and sweet and pretty, there was no way he could ever do this. “Good luck! You got this, I’m sure. I mean, I’ve seen you practice, you’re definitely prepared!” You beamed at them. “Thank you, Y/N! See you after the match!” Atsumu answered with smug laughter and then got pushed away by his brother, who patted Suna’s back YET AGAIN as the team left. “Here, I even have a surprise for you.” You held up the box in front of his face, then. His eyebrows knitted. “What’s that?” You smiled triumphantly. “Well… Last week we went to that café with the twins after your practice, right? You mentioned your favourite pastry and how you barely see it in shops, so I thought that after the match… No matter how it will end – I mean of course you’ll win! – it would be nice if you had it, no?” “I love you.” The words slipped out before he had even realised. He was so enamoured by your deed, the way you were speaking then, that everything was overflowing all at once. “Woah… What?” You were about equally as shocked as he was. Your expressions mirrored each other. Suna wanted to ram his head against a wall but refrained. It was too late to take it back, now. “I’m being serious. I’m just a stupid idiot who doesn’t know anything about stuff like this so I didn’t know what was going on, so sorry if I hurt you. I will cherish the pastries after the match no matter what.” Feeling bold, he took your hands and pressed them tightly against his chest. “Talk to you after the match?” You just nodded, all light-headed from the sudden confession and change of pace in your relationship.

Surprisingly, afterwards not a lot of things changed. You still hung out at school, after practice, he walked you home or picked you up. You hung out with the twins, played video games, you sat in front of him at the gym when he exercised to motivate him. Just from now on, the looks you exchanged had more affection in them. He placed his hand on your back or over your shoulders when you were standing somewhere. He placed his head on your thighs when you came to watch their practice and he needed a break, so you stroked his hair only for both of you to get scolded by Kita. Now, he took your hand when you walked to get coffee and took pictures of you. So many pictures and videos, of almost all things you did.

That’s how he preserves your relationship. He probably has about 10 folders on his laptop filled with your shared memories of late night trips to the grocery store, his matches where you came to cheer him and the team on, lazy afternoons at the Miya’s who just got annoyed that they were now friends with a couple, and many more

Dates with Suna are spontaneous most of the time and he prefers staying inside and hanging out. His love language is quality time and you learn that quite quickly. He just comes over at random times to do his homework even though you have to learn something completely different. But he does not mind, as long as you’re both in the same room. Trying new video games, reading to each other, cooking and baking together, watching movies and shows – that’s how you usually spend your time. But Suna also enjoys taking you to the cinema, or walks out of the city up the local hills, away from civilization where you’re just surrounded by endless fields and giant trees. When he got his driver’s license he often picked you up at random times of the day and you just drove off to some place, sometimes rounding the same block 20 times or completely leaving everything behind for 3 hours. As long as you’re next to him and you both can listen to the music you both enjoy the most, he’s contempt with everything

As mentioned before, he’s big on subtle PDA, but do not ever kiss him in public. Let him initiate the PDA, a hand on your thigh or waist or back, a cute pat on your head, stroking your cheek and then pinching it – those are his go-tos. Good luck kisses before matches only become a thing for you after he leaves High School and joins the higher leagues and the games get more serious. It only happened a few times that he was so ecstatic after a match that he came up to you and kissed you right there on the spot for everyone to see. He usually likes to keep your relationship to himself when it comes to things like this.

However, he loves posting pictures of you. You know those slightly blurry pictures? Yeah, tons of those of you in his stories with either really stupid captions or a single black heart

Suna may seem lazy but he’s a hard worker and knows what he wants in life. Almost as important as his own future is yours to him. He’s your biggest hype man and supporter. Accompanying you to important exams, helping you learn and make hard decisions for your future. He just needs you to learn that he’s always there and you can tell him anything.

A thing you have to accept with Suna is that as much as he cherishes time with you and loves spending time with you, he needs time to himself as well. He’ll send you a small text or leave a small note about heading out for a while and you will find him coming back at night, the fresh air of the night wind around him, signalling that he went on a long drive with the windows down for a while

And … that’s about all I have to say for now. Suna’s my type of man definitely, 12/10 would date IF he was real :’)

i really want to get into mcyt-related (dsmp, hermitcraft, last/third life, osmp, afterlife, etc.) fanfics but i dont even know where to start. do you happen to have any fic recommendations?

Well, this all depends on what you want.

I think most of the classics are very good way to start, although most are a bit long.

The only one of the most known fics that I think might not be a the best way to start is TommyInnit's Unbeatable Method of Avoiding Sudden Death because it's a fic notorious for being difficult to begin. A lot of people start reading it, stop, and then might repeat the process until they manage to keep reading more than like 3 chapters and once they do that they start being obsessed and read it til the end almost in one go. Then they won't recover for the rest of their lives but beginning is difficult. Worth it but difficult.

I am a very big fan of angsty fics so a lot of the ones I like the most are always a bit sad.

For fic recs:

Passerine - Written by Thcscus. Classic, my favourite fic of all time. It has seven chapters and it's a rollercoaster of emotions that goes up then goes down drastically. One of the most beautiful things I've ever read and with a godd message. If I had to give it my summary it would be

Technoblade arrives at his long Friend Philza's — also known as the Angel of Death — castle, after this one had abandoned Techno without a word. There King Philza makes Techno promiss to help his oldest son, Wilbur, with voices that both Techno and Wilbur hear. What Techno will realise is that the promiss will extend to being more than Wilbur's tutor, and that Techno won't be the only one having to deal with Philza abandoning the ones he loves. Wilbur becomes king at 16.

Technoblade and Philza are immortal, Wilbur and Tommy... Are not.

Or maybe read the author's summary which is always poetic and beautiful.

When Wilbur Met Sally - shorter fic about, well, Sally and Wilbur meeting. This one happens in the canon storyline of the Dream SMP so you already have a bit of an idea of how this is going to end. This is a fic I could spoil but that wouldn't really matter since it's the feelings and relationship between the characters that matter. I think it's a good introduction to mcyt fics. I also think the summary made by the author is perfect:

When asked, years down the line, she will begin the story with a tight smile and a “Once upon a time” with a voice that sounds like a double-edged sword. Like she is telling an inside joke that even she cannot laugh at. Denouement - Written by @/isa-grapes How I wish Wilbur and Tommy's conversation to go. Follows canon. Also short. Very sweet but not in a fluff way, more in a hurt comfort way. Characterisation is on point. If Wilbur's talk with Tommy in canon isn't as good as this one I'm gonna be disappointed and accept this one as canon instead.

This one's for you! The fic where Tommy, just a guy working at a café, saves supervillain Siren from dying. Things escalate. Also Tommy becomes best friends with this guy Wilbur who starts going to the café regularly. I wonder how that's related 🧐

Anywway, this has one of the funniest scenarios I've seen in a fic. Supervillain Siren in full gothic attire and Tommy dressed in normal cheap clothes trying to order at a McDonald's. "Yeah, it's totally a kidnapping believe us. Tommy what do you want? Chicken nuggets? Yeah, chicken nuggets for my hostage. He also wants sauce to go with that."

This fic is also a discussion about morality and family. It might go where you don't expect it to go.

This is About a Stuffed Bird - Written by @/theminecraftbee. It's a zombie apocalypse fic from the pov of Mumbo who has decided he's gonna stop hiding and do everything in his power to find Grian (Before the apocalypse started Mumbo promised Grian to give him a talking parrot robot with some simple AI). Mumbo is not confident at all so the story really has him overcome small things that you'd expect a typical zombie apocalypse protagonist to be good at.

Ah, and by the way, the monsters aren't exactly zombies. They're worse. Will give me nightmares for the rest of my life.

I recommend you check the writter's blog since they have a bunch of smaller fics in post format so you can have a small dose and see the style of the author.

Covet - Written by @/digitalta. Another horror one! A fic about boatem who has a distinct lack of Grian but definitely has a boatemhole monster. Scout my beloved.

It's a fic where the hermits are trying to deal with a problem (the boatemhole monster) in the best way they can. Some of them are terrified, others are Scar who doesn't know the definition of danger... Others are trying to understand and sympathize with Scout... They're doing their best. When you get over the initial horror you actually might start feeling a bit sad for the boatemhole monster.

I have a recommendation: Passerine Podcast. It's a YouTube channel who's reading Dream SMP fanfiction and the quality is very good. They have read Passerine from beginning to end so you can listen to it. Question to the OC keeper, if my universe had a Goddess who ruled and protected women, and especially young girls, would it be alright to include a trans man in her sphere of protection? Not because he is a woman, of course, but because he stands risks of similar types of violence and discrimination. Maybe only when he's a child. Or would that be a bad thing to have regardless of how it's written? I am a cis girl myself, so sorry in advance if any of this is offensive.

see i think that stuff like that could be done well (wonder egg kind of did it! even though it was a very messy show so its hard to tell exactly what the point was...) but i also think that it would be veeeerrry easy to botch, especially if you dont have firsthand experience. and im not saying that its impossible to write for people w different experiences than you, im just saying it requires a lot more conscious effort. but youre being conscious by asking so thats good!

like you said, its tricky because it could imply that the misogyny trans men face via ppl seeing them as women is "binds" them to womanhood so to speak. and personally i think that my knee-jerk reaction to seeing that is skepticism about what the author thinks of trans people. THAT BEING SAID you could also work around this by just... also including a trans WOMAN in her sphere? i honestly would suggest doing that either way, if you want it to be clear that the goddess also stands for trans people.

but in regards to the child part: not every trans person thinks of their gender in the same terms, many people do think "i was a girl then, but now im not" rather than "i was always a man" (and sometimes its a combination of both, its complicated!). but i do think that if handled poorly the former could also translate to "since this character was a girl, then hes on some level still a girl even if he doesnt identify as such anymore" which is dangerous. the issue is that its a very very very common belief that trans men are actually just scared and confused girls who were manipulated or groomed in some way, and that they have to be PROTECTED from this terrible fate in which theyre mutilated and victimized. and since this is a /protection/ circle i think it needs to be made clear exactly what he is being protected from. it cant be just vague misogyny, because many could take it to be the former- that hes some sort of recovering victim of the trans mob forcing him to give up his divine femininity or whatever

it really would be a safer bet to make the trans character a woman, because transmisogyny is such a rampant issue and making it clear that trans women are welcome in women's safe spaces is important. that being said you could also do BOTH, like i said before. or even include cis men impacted by misogyny in other ways too, if you dont wanna make it a women's only club. if its moreso about the type of discrimination than the exact gender of the person experiencing it, i'm sure your oc wouldnt stand for any type of discrimination that hinges on the idea that things considered feminine are lesser. it could be as simple as an ostracized gay guy being treated like he's "unman", or a big cishet man who keeps all his emotions hidden for fear of being seen as weak, or a little boy who gets bullied for crying, or something. these are all just suggestions that i'm spitballing, you dont have to use them (its your story!) but it could help with not making the trans guy feel like hes either an "odd man out" or... like a hes woman. which is what you wanna avoid!

of course, if you wanna keep it generally women-only (and i still suggest including trans women in this) and you wanna depict him as a child pre-transition... i think that could work in a way. again i think its tricky, but it could be the sort of thing where, since he's a kid, he's afraid to leave the comfort of being a girl (all he's ever known so far!) in order to embark on the unknown transition into manhood. there's a lot there that's genuinely so scary. "what if i'm wrong? what if i'm not accepted? what if i lose everyone i love? what if ill always been seen as a woman anyway? how will i be safe?" and you can have it be the sort of thing where the goddess ENCOURAGES him to try anyway, and thats its okay if hes wrong, because the people who have loved and supported him so far wont stop. that he will still be welcomed and protected, not because hes a woman but because hes loved either way. that he wont lose his community over becoming a boy, and she will still watch over him. i think thats what you want to go for, right?

wei wuxian and his attitudes on his sexuality... and the fandom attitudes towards it in turn

so i guess for my first post ill talk about some discussions of sexuality ive seen floating around, mainly pertaining to wei wuxian's sexuality and how he views himself. this isnt any sort of analysis of the direct text or anything but oh it could be. i dont use a lot of direct references to the text for this post, mostly going on pure memory, so take it with a grain of salt.

one thing i see a TON in fandom and transformative fandom spaces is this incessant need to label a favorite character's sexuality one way or another, whether it be a sexuality the person likes to project themselves on or something else. thats not to say that its necessarily WRONG to do so—i love it when my dear mutuals see themselves in a character i think its very endearing & exciting, and in fact, there had been many times where i did some self-exploration of my own sexuality through characters. the problem i mostly have is when people get heated or even obsessive over something like a label.

i think for so long, there's been this discussion of wei wuxian's sexuality where, though mostly in good faith, comes to a point where you have to wonder if it even matters in the canon context. whether he’s bi, gay, straight, etc... it all comes down to the fact that in the story, they (wei wuxian and lan wangji) don't label themselves at all, and neither does the author. yes there is the term "cut-sleeve", which as we all know, is mostly used, almost in the negatory in the mdzs universe—the origins of the term “cut-sleeve” itself is referred to the story of Emperor Ai of the Han dynasty, who cut off his sleeve so as to not wake his sleeping lover. cut-sleeve itself is an allusion to homosexuality, but not the full label.

so what does this mean? well for starters, on twitter, there has been this lovely thread by twitter user flowerofgusu, who does a detached translation of chapter 111, and noticed a few key things. what i want to focus on is the first tweet, where translation differences are highlighted in that line. i implore you all to read the thread (its short!), because i dont want to trample all over it. but keeping it simple, we can see that there is a BIG difference between reading a wei ying who always thought himself as heterosexual, and a wei ying who just simply never thought himself “in that way”

i think this could open up a lot of discussion on how sexuality is handled in mdzs, and how wei ying’s own attitude toward sexuality is written. the author of the thread noticed that wei ying’s attitudes lines up well with the concept of “demisexuality.” and it makes sense! we know that lan wangji is the only person that wei wuxian has ever come to love intimately, and whole-heartedly. but again, the thing is, its a label, and whether or not it was intentional, we will never know if he is demi for sure. and that’s ok! in my opinion, characters dont have to have labels, and we know that wei wuxian can be perfectly happy living the rest of his life without labeling himself in any specific way.

(side note, now im seriously wondering if a “lack of label” is also a phenomenon of me wanting to project too—personally im someone who doesnt really stick to one, so i wonder if this is also me projecting in a sense. lol)

anyways, my problem with all of this arises because of a couple of attitudes of seen in response to the thread. i wont link it, and honestly i think the issue seems to pertain to the way fandom views characters’ sexuality in general. that discussing how characters might be demi, or acespec, or even just someone with no labels, is met with attitudes of “you’re erasing bisexuality” or “he is gay!!1!”; when ppl introduce the book, its “the main character is a bisexual necromancer!”. these claims are generally in good faith but, the problem is, they are not backed by the canon text either. i wont sit here and talk about other series or other characters, but i know for sure wei wuxian isnt labeled at all. heres what we know: 

that, in his first life, he teased and flirted a little, if only to make friends or get something in return, like food, or a perfume sachet.

he was rumored to be someone who ravishes virgin maidens every night, which no, he didnt. he hung out with some ghost maidens one time and lived alongside some poor farmers in the burial mounds. he died a virgin too

he experiences moments of comphet on few occasions, most notably in xuanwu cave where he told lan wangji “he doesnt like men”—i wrote a bit on this but i went back to read the text in its full context, and wei wuxians proclamation of “i dont like men!” seems to be more of a way to assure lan wangji that he wont take advantage of him, rather than him being so assured of his sexuality. since i dont have access to the original text, let's leave this for another day.

in the phoenix mountain kiss, he assumed that the person who stole his first kiss was a strong, but shy maiden. again, comphet at play, and never considers the possibility of it being a man

in his second life, he plays what he thinks not only how a cut-sleeve acts, but how mo xuanyu acts. when he first wakes up, he plays the act of a lunatic, then attempts to play it up to his advantage when he learns that mo xuanyu is homosexual. not once does wei wuxian himself ever harbor any negative feelings or disgust towards mo xuanyu being gay, or towards homosexuality at all.

in fact, up until the moment wei wuxian starts to fall in love with lan wangji, and when he realized he did, he never once fantasized about him being in a serious intimate situation with anyone, nonetheless even a man! his first life had been a lifetime of struggle, a struggle to conform, and a struggle through war, and a struggle to stand up whats right. whats notable is that although he and lan wangji met only on several occasion, it was enough to make a huge impression on each other—and for wei wuxian tell jiang yanli all about his new friend in the cloud recesses!

anyways the point is, wei wuxian never labels himself, but neither does he ever think about his sexuality in any meaningful way, whether because he “didnt have time”, or because he just simply didnt see the need to. i think the lack of a label on a character, or, really, a person, not only means that they dont care about how to define themselves, but because they just simply dont see the need to. wei wuxian is someone in the latter—he is a carefree person that goes with the flow, and doesnt get hung up so easily over any little thing.

this brings up another point ive thought about a lot—why use these western labels to define fictional characters living in an ancient fantasy china? especially terms where they have only been recently defined within the past couple hundred years. i think there is a lot to discuss when it comes to imposing western views of sexuality onto foreign art and media, especially media that, rather than try to label subjects any specific way, aims to tell a story rather than focus on identity politics. (i think this goes into why danmei itself is pretty appealing to a lot of people—it doesnt focus on the labels of its characters, but rather the characters themselves going “i love this person for themself, and not because im gay”. of course, there could be few exceptions, but generally, it is popular for the main couples in danmei to be wholeheartedly devoted to each other, no matter if they have been in several relationships before, or none at all)

another phenomenon ive seen in the fandom which was subject to a lot of discussion, is “sbwy”, or straight boy wei ying. generally i do think its inherently a harmless concept, and one that can be fun in a comedic setting, and especially wonderful when it comes to things like “coming of age” fics or analysis. the problem is. too many a time have i seen bad-faith criticism of the novel that claims… that wei wuxian was actually “straight” in his first life, and him taking the body of a gay man means he suddenly turned gay and that means mxtx deleiberately wrote this and is homophobic and blah blah blah—

just. full stop. i think at that point, anyone who thinks that probably didn’t read the novel lbr. wei ying was never implied to be “straight” in his first life—like i mentioned, he flirted with girls and generally never thought about himself in “that way”, but the whole point of the flashback arcs were to bring to light certain contexts that the present arcs needed, and to highlight the relationship between wei wuxian and lan wangji at that time. its rocky, but generally, they had a better relationship than what most people thought. we know that lan wangji didnt want his feelings known to anyone, and especially wei wuxian; so wei wuxian himself had no reason to know of it at all. and it makes sense—by the time lan wangji himself realized it, it was much too late, and wei wuxian had deemed him an outsider to his problems. theres nothing he could do to help without overstepping boundaries, so he chose to respect it (generally).

anyways what im saying here is that wei wuxian wasn’t straight in his first life—he just never had any reason to think about his sexuality. he was and is carefree, and i think his attitude towards his sexuality carefree as well. when he started realizing he was catching feelings for lan wangji, his first thought wasn’t “but im not gay!”, it was “oh my god. i might be gay. i might be gay and i might be gay for my best friend and i dont know what to do about it does he like me back i hope he likes me back aakdjklgfdhlkf;ds” (please note that i use the term “gay” loosely, not that im making any straightforward comment on what his sexuality might be, ty) he’s flexible with his attitude towards his own sexuality, not really claiming he’s any one thing, but instead, focusing on the most important object of his desires, lan wangji.

he was never inclined to seek out gay erotica in his first life, and he was never inclined to that kind of interests, and he was never inclined to sex at all. we know that in his first life, he died a virgin and never felt any kind of desire like that at all. in his second life, he becomes interested in sex—most noteably, interested in sex with lan wangji. lan wangji is the object of his desires, and throughout the entire story, no one ever catches his eye quite like the second jade of lan. he unlocks a desire within himself that he himself has never known, and from then on, hes more inclined to do anything with lan wangji. its exhilarating, its scary, its wonderful, and most of all, wei ying is happy. hes happy and excited and satisfied! wangxian never put labels on themselves throughout the novel, and theyre happy with that. when they realize the depth of their feelings for each other, theres no going back—it feels natural to them, so why go through the trouble of putting labels for themselves?

to close off i wanna say, headcanon whatever you want! whether wei wuxian is gay, bi, straight, demi, whatever, its all up to interpretation! and having civil discussions about it can be fun, and can bring people a whole different perspective than what they thought before. but i think its silly to claim that wei wuxian has to be one or the other, and if ppl hc him being a label you think is incorrect, its morally wrong to do so. in my opinion, i think the lack of putting a label on a sexuality can be really refreshing, and for wei wuxian, it seems to do him just fine.

Uh, yeah. So it's finally time that I came clear. I once said that I have a ship that I barely tolerate, so.... that NOTP is none other than stsg. I recently block the ship tag here in tumblr, actually. So now that I said this, stsg fans, you're very welcome to block me.

I'll put the rest of my answer under the cut in consideration for the ship fans, since this is definitely not for the fans. Don't say I didn't warn you if you're one of the fans and still continue to read and then get offended

Honestly, this is a thing that has been happening since several months ago. I don't know exactly why, but the western stsg fandom got very loud - to the point that I, who usually can tolerate many things including pairings that I don't ship, became unable to ignore it. Fans today really likes to throw words like "canon" and easily verbally attack people who don't agree.

Anyway, even if Director Park said it, it doesn't really make it actually canon. I still remember Nakata Jouji (I love the man, he's my favorite priest in Fate series), the seiyuu for Naobito, said that Naobito is Maki's father, which later written by Gege to be untrue. Ougi is Maki's actual father. So, unless Gege writes or says it directly, what other people (even staffs) can only be considered as a speculation; since it's their interpretation of the characters, just like we fans do.

It's just when related to a ship, fans always get loud. Remember viz's mistranslation "my one and only" lol? I have long thought since the volume came out that the stsg fans will take it and run with it. And this is just a personal theory, but the loudest one are the one with the smallest crumbs. Itfs is still fed today by gege so we're just content day to day, but stsg currently has nothing in the manga so they get really loud when the smallest crumb drops. It'll pass if you wait, just stay calm lol.

So my intolerance does not come from the ship itself, but from the fans, so yeah. Same, anon, same.
