Too young to be

A single mother of three

Toes curled over the ledge

Of cold concrete

Clinching her fists and her teeth

“God, send me a breeze”

She quietly speaks

“Please.”

But the fall would be too great

For an angel without wings

Nothing holy would ever dare

Send something so gentle

Hurling down through thin air

The flashing life of a singer

That’s been traded

For a ring on her finger

His words would light her fire

His tongue would roll like thunder

Rattling her body like shutters

Hinged on rotten lumber

What makes a man

Let someone rest and lean

Against what they believe

To be a sturdy wall

Only to step aside

And watch them fall

Nothing holy would ever think

To plant that seed of deceit

Only the wicked can

The howling want of man

I saw your face, after a long time. You were looking at those cherry blossoms. The sun was almost gone. Your eyes seemed lost, looking for a way out. You were sad.

I called out your name.

When you looked at me, why did you blink three times in surprise? Why did you smile like you found something you've been searching for all this time? Instead of saying something, why did you hold me in your arms and sighed like some sort of burden was off your chest?

Was it because of me? Were you sad because of me? Was I the reason for that melancholy in your eyes?

While I was thinking about it all, why did you suddenly lose your grip and looked at me like you did something wrong? Why did the despondence returned on your face? Why did you start to walk away?

"Wait. Come back! I'm sorry. Don't leave like that. Please...

Wait. "

I wish I had got those words out of my mouth. But even if I did,

would you have stayed?
