Yes yes poor Dragon Nudist has to marry his girlfriend’s boss because those two idiot women promised to die on the same day and for plot reasons some deities want heroine to die so plan to kill boss and only way out is for Dragon Dude to marry boss for three lifetimes and guard her through three tribulations and his actual gf can’t know it but how very French novel of them to have the OTP marry and presumably bang other people while sort of pining in fancy clothes. Herve Bazin is torn between applauding the moral decadence and bemoaning bourgeois values in whatever afterlife atheists go to.
