Do you ever just think about how awful it is to be a demigod before you know about it?
I've been thinking about it a lot lately. How much demigod kids and teenagers don't fit in with mortal society. Their mortal parents don't know what to do with them, even if they do care for them immensely. They are labeled as troublemakers, as bad kids, as mentally ill, as freaks and monsters who see things they shouldn't see and have an aversion to authority that they shouldn't have and a strong sense of justice and an inability to sit still, read, play, act, feel normally.
Percy got in trouble for getting into fights, for speaking impulsively, he was mocked and spoken down to and expelled from lots of schools who couldn't handle him and he didn't know why until he was twelve years old. Sally wasn't able to tell him why.
Annabeth was the product of her father's relationship with a goddess, and he loved her for a while, but she wasn't a normal kid. When he fell in love with a mortal and Annabeth didn't get along with her or her kids, he chose the mortal side. How could he understand Annabeth's side? She was just a badly behaved kid, while his new wife and children were the normal good ones.
Jason always knew he was a demigod, he was accepted and praised and tons of expectations were placed on him from a frighteningly young age. Part of the reason the others resent him and see him as a sort of golden child is because he was placed on a pedestal and he will never, ever know what it was like for all of his friends to be looked down on as children, to be scolded for things they didn't understand and told that the things they saw and experienced constantly were not real.
Piper was always loved by her father but I think he loved the idea of her, he loved that she reminded him of the beautiful woman he met years ago. He was always kind to her and usually gave her things she wanted, but he couldn't always spend time with her as his job got busier. Piper sensed that her father's attention was occupied by something else, and as he got busier, she felt less supported and stole things and got in fights and her dad didn't know what to do with her after the BMW so she was sent to a troubled teen program where she was bullied for her disabilities and her race.
Leo feared his power because it killed the person he loved the most, and after that, everything in his life was hell. He didn't feel safe anywhere, he didn't have anyone he could trust, and adults saw him as a troublemaker who would never amount to anything.
The books don't emphasize these things as much with any of the other demigods, or maybe Annabeth, Percy, Piper, and Leo are the best examples we have. I just. They're so tragic. They're all my children all of them. I love them and I feel so sad for them

why I think Valgrace would've been a better canon ship in Heroes of Olympus
Ok first off, I'm just gonna say this upfront that this is a personal opinion and I don't care what you ship.
OBVIOUS SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL OF HEROES OF OLYMPUS (and mild Trials of Apollo book 3 spoilers too)
ok so. into my points
if Jason and Leo were together the "to storm or Fire the world must fall" part of the Prophecy would've been SO MUCH MORE tragic. like they both know (at least a small part of them) that one of them HAS to die to defeat Gaea. they both know they're doomed. and that would make every moment they have together even more meaningful.
and don't you DARE get me started on their deaths. I mean, just think of it. the final battle at CHB against Gaea happens the same as canon, except before Leo's sacrifice he Kisses Jason for what may be the last time. an acknowledgment that their time could be up now. Leo still sacrifices himself and everyone thinks he died. Imagine the moments we could've had of Jason thinking of what he had and what he COULD'VE with Leo. what could've happened between them.
and when Leo eventually comes back and He finds out Jason is gone...that he couldn't prevent the fates making storm or Fire fall. Leo thinking that It STILL should've been him. that it was HIM who cheated Death, so it should've been him who permanently died. thoughts that he was never able to see Jason again. that they were never able to know the other was alive. and they could never have their future together.

After a painstaking hour that feels like an almost comically longer amount of time, he’s finally done
He stops to get a redbull for himself and an (optionally caffeinated) beverage of choice for you and texts you to ask if you want any snacks while he’s there
He returns shortly with your favorite chips and candy and plants the biggest kiss on your lips
He drops the bag he was holding
Thankfully containing nothing breakable
All his attention is focused on you
Overflowing love pours out of him and into you
Into your heart
Finally you part, foreheads touching, breath fanning over each other’s faces
“Hi,”
“Hi.”
“...I missed you.”
“I missed you too, Sparky.”
More kissing
More wonderful sweet soft warm loving kissing
It’s only after a minute or two after you finally pull away that you notice the bag of snacks is still on the floor
Or later when you’re getting ready for bed
You’re all comfy and in your pjs and getting ready to do your skincare before you go to sleep
You see him come up behind you in the mirror and rest his head on your shoulder
He presses little kisses along your neck and jaw
Eventually moving up to your face and murmuring in your ear about how good kisses are for your skin
He squeezes you tighter when you giggle, loving the sound
Soon you’re in bed together, all warm and cuddled up
You’re talking about anything that crosses your minds, just loving the togetherness, the sound of each other’s voice
Your hands are running through his hair and his face is nuzzled into your neck
You press kisses onto wherever your can reach, punctuating your sentences as you talk
They get slower and messier as you both get sleepier
You’re both out like lights before you know it
And you know as soon as you wake up tomorrow, he and the sun shining through your window will both be waking you up, pressing equally warm kisses into your skin

I have a headcanon that Leo initiates a vine battle of sorts at CHB where all the campers are tasked with quoting as many vines correctly and in fitting circumstances and at the end of the time slot the winner gets Something but they get points docked it they quote one incorrectly and one day Leo’s winning but then he stubs his toe and shouts “mother fucker dude that hurt like a buttcheek on a stick!” Before realizing his mistake in horror (bonus points if this mistake places Piper in the lead)

Leo braids Piper's hair
Piper had an Undercut and Leo helps her trim it (and he's the one who cut it in the first place)
Piper is the only person Leo is OK about letting his guard down around
Building off that last one: Leo feels EXTREMELY guilty abt his Mum, and one night at the wilderness school he just breaks down and Piper finds him and he tells her everything,

And you haven’t even had the baby shower yet
But you can’t stop yourselves from picking up a few outfits and toys and books whenever you’re out together
You’ve spent countless hours in the baby section of various stores, showing each other all the cute onesies and outfits and baby shoes you find
With your bump getting bigger every day you also need to get more maternity clothes

And jesus christ he’s so ready to hype you up

The way he looks at you, how happy he is about everything, how much he loves you

Your jaw hits the floor and your eyes fly open
You literally drop the onesie you were holding you’re so stunned
You immediately run over to Leo, putting his hand on your tummy
He’s worried something’s wrong for a split second
Then he feels it too
Your little baby, moving around
You both cry
He’s a cancer and you’re pregnant, you’re both definitely going to cry over this
It’s just the most touching moment shared between you two
Hands on your tummy, holding each other and smiling in crying at the baby gap
You end up getting the turtle onesie, considering it to be a good sign
Every time either of you see it you think of the first time you felt your baby move
Another exciting thing you’ll get to do

That’s the third big time it really hits him

anyway have any of you ever thought about how Jason was raised by wolves and then an army and told he had to be the best so he became the best, made himself the best using his experiences and power, who has to prove himself time and time again to the people who made him, and then he meets Percy Jackson who, with almost none of Jason’s training, without having been raised and molded into a leader, is better than him
Percy Jackson, who had a childhood, who had a mom, who seems all the better for it. Jason can finish his quests and missions and get a pat on the back and congratulations for bringing honor to the Legion and nothing else because that’s what’s expected of him, while Percy gets hugs and cookies and tears of relief and so much love because people had been hoping he’d succeed, not because it meant victory, but because it meant he'd live.
all of the things Jason’s gone through to make him that perfect leader and soldier feel like they were all for nothing because he looks at Percy Jackson and sees that perfect leader and soldier and none of the things that made Jason good are what made him great
