While everyone is still excited and happy about the new arrivals and the qsmp being opened at a smaller capacity, I think its also important to talk about today March 8th, International Women's Day.
On the qsmp there have been 9 women invited, including the newest addition of '양띵' ('YD'), and including Jaiden, who will no longer be a part of the project going forward. In purgatory 2 there were 7 women, out of all of the teams and creators. These number are abysmal, and yet still somehow better than other projects like hermitcraft, which has 4 women members. And by now you may be asking yourself, "what are we supposed to do about it, it's not our fault theres less female streamers?" yes yes it is your fault, on how you treat women and how you don't support them. When Baghera said the same things as her french counterparts just recently she received double the hate, and don't get me started on how everyone treated her during the electrion arc. Pearlescent Moon is the ONLY boatem member with less than a million followers on youtube. Hell even when Subble talked about ABUSE within the community HER OWN NAME DIDN'T EVEN TREND ABOVE THE ACCUSED. AND YOU ALL HAVE THE AUDACITY TO ASK YOURSELF WHY THERES NOT MORE WOMEN And to go further, let's talk about the fandom more, and the headcanons, how the most sexualized characters of mcyt are all done with female headcanons of them Let's talk about my own experience in the fandom too, where I can joke around THE SAME WAY as masculine counterparts and get bullied and teased for it while they get applauded and laughs.
Is this really the best we can do? MCYT no one evens talks about this you have exhausted all the people who have and shame them out of the space, I'm not saying you're not allowed to have favorites but BY GOD treat the feminine people in the space better

ok. sorry to post discourse here but continuing to quietly seethe about it is unproductive & will eventually make me explode. so.
here is why I have come to really hate the cane user goodtimeswithscar headcanon!
(first of all, a disclaimer; I'm aware that Scar doesn't care about people portraying him in fanworks with or without his irl disability. I'm not white knighting for him. This rant is on the behalf of myself & my disabled friends who have similar feelings on it.)
Because Scar is disabled in real life, a lot of fans also want to portray his character as disabled in fanart too. Which is awesome! not a bad thing!
It is difficult though. Scar, playing Minecraft, is piloting an effectively able-bodied character. With his disability & the tech available in real life, IRL-Scar wouldn't be able to navigate the world the way he does in game.
To portray character-Scar as disabled in the same way he is in real life would be to massively change how Hermitcraft and Minecraft as a game function. Which I think I've seen some people figure out how to do! Which is awesome! But obviously, it's not an easy thing to do.
So it seems that the thought process of many artists is, okay, so I can't make him as disabled as he is in real life. But I still want to portray him as disabled for representation!
So boom, a cane, a simple and obvious visual indicator of disability to draw character-Scar with! ...which doesn't require thinking about how his disability would impact him in-world, at all.
Of the people who do this, I've only once seen anyone talk about about what Scar's disability is, how it affects his life, how he functions with it and how it limits him. I hope it's needless to say that if you haven't put any thought into how a character is disabled, then... that isn't a disabled character.
Beyond that, many artists who draw Scar as a cane user will only include it when it's easy. It's not so simple to mine, or build, or have an archer superhero persona, or run around the server in general with a cane. So as soon as the context makes it inconvenient, the cane is gone, making it essentially a prop, not a genuine disability aid. (Of course, there are ambulatory cane users. But it's real obvious if the cane being there or not in art is completely based on convenience.)
When the headcanon is used like this, it isn't to show a genuinely disabled character. It's just for the look of one, which can be forgotten whenever it doesn't suit the context.
Scar is a very popular character. And this headcanon is getting more and more common. There isn't any getting away from it short of blocking Scar tags entirely. The constant message I feel like I'm getting from this fandom is that cane users — like myself — are just the version of disability that's easier to ignore.
I know people who do this aren't trying to cause harm, or purposefully being ableist. But it still is. Giving a character the watered-down aesthetic of disability while still being effectively able bodied isn't representation. It sucks, and imo it's better to portray Scar as non-disabled than to do this.
(And yes, I know this isn't always how it goes. Some people who headcanon Scar as a cane user do write him as genuinely disabled, especially people who are projecting their own disability. No salt to them, this isn't who the post is directed at.)
So. my points are these, I guess.
please. please don't just slap a cane on your Scar design and go Yay representation! it doesn't work like that.
In general, if you want to write or draw a disabled character, you need to spend time thinking about what their disability is and how it impacts their life. And show it.
If you're going to take away a character's disability whenever it isn't convenient then just. don't make a disabled character at all.

i'm sorry they what
I was not in the fandom when it happened, but the author of ATUS, apparently supported..??? Or at least, was not opposed, to the doxxing of hermitshippers. their mineblr blog has since gone deactivated. But if you find Cleo's Tumblr you can see what went down.
Again, I wasn't in the fandom when that went down, but from the posts left behind, piecing it together makes it seem like the guy supported doxxing and was directly responsible for Cleo leaving Tumblr.
You can still read ATUS n shit and I still use some tropes made by the guy, but like...mmm the. The posts you can still find today don't leave a great picture

this is my two cents, as a person who was not in the hermitshipping discourse of 2019
if you don't want to see hermitshipping stuff, block it. block the tags, the person posting it, or just ignore it. whatever you have to do
this stuff will still exist either way. this is the internet, yall.

I think the best solution to the “Grian fans making everything about Grian” complaint isn’t to shame the Grian fans but rather that the rest of us who have other faves should simply become more abnormal about them

not to post "discourse" on main but why can't the mcyt fandom just be normal about the creators jokingly dragging their servermates or killing each other in game or, god forbid, having banter as friends.
why are we sending death threats to gem for killing people in the hardcore server about killing people? why are we bullying ren for having a fun roleplay arc as a king? why are we flaming mumbo for being jokingly mean to his dear friends? why are we shittalking iskall for lying to wels in the game about lying? why are we being rude to false for surviving in the game about surviving fair and square?
i thought we were over this dangerous paraosociality stuff. i know i'm talking mostly about hermitcraft but most of our favorite creators are grown ass people who know their boundaries with their friends. you're not going to get a medal for whiteknighting against their own friends, of which they specify MULTIPLE TIMES that it's all just for fun and games.
this shit is the reason why creators get wary about interacting with each other freely. if you want to get mad, get mad in private. don't maintag your rants. don't spread it around huge servers or on social media where the creators can see them. and definitely DO NOT FUCKING SHITTALK THEM IN A CREATOR'S PATREON DISCORD SERVER GENERAL CHAT. jesus christ i thought we were better than this. this is why half of the internet treats the mcyt fandom like untouchable piles of burning waste

alright, so, one more thing i've been thinking about during all of this, and apologies, because i normally try to keep my blog fairly discourse-free in the grand scheme of things. but.
there are hermitcraft fans who act irritatingly morally superior about this fandom. i think it's out of some impulse to try to distance yourselves from any other mcyt fandom. it needs to stop.
the worst behavior during the polls was from the hermitcraft fans.
period.
there were so many instances of hermitcraft fans accusing the other side of cheating, of hermitcraft fans making attacks on the character of their guy's opponents, i have heard what i HOPE are isolated reports of racism in the grian/quackity fight (it was genuinely impossible to keep up with the blog's notes that round without both going into a death spiral thanks to the horrible behavior of scar fans during techno/scar and also without losing track instantly of where we were due to the frankly insurmountable volume of notes, so i did not see it, but unfortunately i fully believe it). i have seen people receiving awful asks - saw people being accused of 'betraying' the hermitcraft side due to voting for quackity or techno, for example.
and for a fandom that likes to act like it's better than the other guys, well. the dsmp fans were generally very well behaved in comparison. (shoutout, for example, to quackblr - i saw maybe one or two possible instances of bad behavior, but for as intense as you all were, you all were normally mostly just retaliatory towards whatever energy was thrown at you.) it wasn't supposed "outsiders coming in" that was doing this bad behavior, either.
folks, you can't blame the dsmp when the problem is inside the house. you can't blame twitter users when you're doing it here. you can't blame the reddit when you're the ones throwing the first death threats.
get off your high horses. we're all mcyt fans. we're all having the same fun. get off your high horses. you can hardly claim we're entirely all "unproblematic" when keralis accepted a sponsorship from the wizard game and xisuma periodically gets another round of getting shouted down over something he said on xisumasays. get off your high horses. you can't claim we're the accepting, good behavior fandom, unlike those other guys, when you're the ones causing the problems.
now, as always, i'm sure this is a law of large numbers thing to some extent. as technoblade, wise as he is, said: sometimes when you get a large enough group, you're going to have a few serial killers. but for the amount that hermitblr likes to act better than Those Other Minecraft Fandoms, and those Other Fandom Websites, it wasn't those guys that made me cry.
to be clear, the majority of you have been well-behaved. but there's a persistent tendency in this fandom to act strangely morally superior to other fandoms. and, y'all? you aren't.
you just aren't.
and the sooner you acknowledge that, the less likely this is to happen again, because once you admit that yeah, we can be toxic too? that's when you can start actually looking at yourself and trying not to be.
anyway, sorry again to make this post. i don't want to be a downer, hence why, outside of the official mod statements of "chill the fuck out", i didn't make this until now. (it also helps that i wanted to wait until i was no longer furious, upset, and death spiraling.) i have seen a lot of the best of this fandom over the past two weeks! i've just also, unfortunately, seen some of the worst, and feel the need to make this statement because it's just... been eating at me.
i don't want this to continue to be a trend. i think we can do better. do so.

guys tell me your pettiest, smallest mischaracterization details that drive you nuts. the little tiny things that you see constantly that get on your nerves.
mine is when people make c!slime call quackity "quackity from las nevadas" in casual conversation or have him always using his full _ from _ titles for everyone. guys. he doesn't use them all the time. he calls people that when greeting them or having formal conversations 😭

Someone: hey this common theme/trend/headcanon in the fanbase is kinda misogynistic.
Some of y'alls: but these are my comfort headcanons and they give me comfort why do you hate fun so much.
Someone: hey it's kinda misogynistic to make Pearl older than the rest of the group when she's actually the youngest 'cause it's projecting a patriarchal expectation on her character without nuance.
Some of y'alls: BUT BUT IT MAKES SENSE IN MY AU AND GRIAN/JIMMY IS JUST SO BABY TO ME. LIKE JIMMY IS SO BABY. GRIAN'S SO UNHINGED AND YOUNGEST CODED. AND PEARL'S MORE RESPOSIBLE THAN THE BOYS. LIKE SHE JUST FEELS OLDER THAN BDUBS AND JOEL.
Someone: Hey I seriously think people in this fanbase should re-evaluate and examine some of their headcanons and portrayals that have misogynistic undertones as things that they need to unlearn from what they grew up with.
Some of y'alls: why do you have no whimsy? :( You could just ignore these headcanons you know? Some of these are made by kids who are inexperienced.
I'm not calling for any form of harassment who do this btw.
[Don't ever do that. You are immediately in the wrong the moment you start harassing other people.]
But maybe a bit of self-reflection or awareness in the fanbase? I know this side of the fanbase has a large demographic that skews younger, but that doesn't mean that these thoughts and ideas shouldn't be corrected.
In fact, I think something like that is important so it could be unlearned earlier but what do I know.
At least I'm calling out sexism 'cause one of my previous fanbases had to constantly call out racism 💀 and yes some of those racism do come from younger fans and people who were around my age at that time.
Idk, this fanbase makes me lose my mind sometimes.

based on what quinn hills said on twitter earlier about diversity (I love hermitcraft and what I'm talking about doesn't mean i don't love it, but nothing's perfect!):
Hermitcraft is server full of mostly cishet white men, and the server would benefit a lot from a more diverse cast. Representation is great for all the reasons representation is great ANYWHERE: it keeps the bigots away, it gives marginalized people someone to look up to, it brings more diverse viewpoints... Fortunately the mcyt community online has gotten a lot better at this since the early 2010s, but hermitcraft still kind of looks like some of those old servers. As Quinn said, the hermits need to continue to make an effort for diversity, especially when they add new hermits.

really weird thing ive noticed lately re: hermits getting critiqued for stuff theyve said or done is that as soon as someone holds a shit opinion (even if it's just them being stupid, or a centrist, or saying a bad word without knowing what it means, or whatever) people immediately seem to flock to the 'this guy should die' 'kys' 'why are we giving this person a platform' rhetoric and like. that's not how meaningful change is made?
like, yeah, if one of my beloved CCs posted a tweet or video tomorrow about how much they hate gay people, or believe in conservative ideals, or they just said a bunch of slurs or whatever (these are hyperbolic examples obviously) then yeah, fuck them, they should go rot. but like, having some dumb takes, or saying bad things in the past, doesn't = evil terrible person...
idk, i feel like we can critique content creators without getting so insane about it. like, shit, there are things some of my favourites do that i don't like, but theyre not even really worth bringing up tbh. unless its something actually important, i feel like it just creates more drama out of nothing and all these assholes come crawling out of the woodwork to tell everyone how much they hate that creator. or find their content boring anyway so clearly they have no real merit to anyone.
more of an explanation of what i mean in the tags but yeah.
#this is kind of about ppl finding out x is a centrist and... apparently that means telling him 'kys' is ok#i dont even like centrism but like... wasnt he super right wing at one point? is this not at least a mild improvement? he's just some guy#i like his content. dont care enough to get into drama about him being a 'we should all just talk it out!' kinda guy. who give a shit.#this is also kinda about doc's little rant on twt about plestine/isral (spelling to not clog tags) which was basically just -#- 'stop asking me to speak on these things 1. i could get into legal trouble 2. i stopped talking about politics years ago for good reasons#which like. isnt my favourite response to things? but i also Get It yknow?#it wasnt as big of a deal as ppl seemed to think it was#(especially since he very clearly retweeted donation post and said hes against innocent ppl dying. which is pretty clear to me.)#anyway the milder things im talking about here is like. harry potter references or mild orientalism re: 'asian-style' builds#like. i could go mad about that but i really dont give a shit#i dont#and like im a hard leftist. but i just do not care. so long as they arent a massive right winger or a creep im fine#*i say massive right winger but tbh i kind of mean right winger at all. i just dont give a shit about ccs wanting to remain more centrist#especially online.#anyway#hermitblr#hermitcraft#mcyt#discourse#ben chats shit on the internet#to clarify im not tryna say that its cool to play both sides politically but also i dont think bringing up a 4 year old post -#- to stir up drama is very genuine. looking at the notes i just see a lot of 'wow fuck this guy i hate his content anyway' and its like. ok

Something I think Hermitcraft fans need to remember is that the Hermits are human and sometimes that means they have problematic views. It's not surprising that the German is anti-Palestine, that the white South African makes colonization jokes, that the man influenced the extreme man-woman ratio that continues to this day. That doesn't mean you can't be disappointed, but expecting them to post on the topics you care about doesn't help when you don't know what their views are to begin with. It won't end the way you want it to end.

Saying “they hold up each others man boobs and kiss with tongue” about two content creators on YOUTUBE DOT COM is so fucking deranged. Say that about fictional people PLEASE
I normally don't take fic prompts but I'll make an exception for you anon <3
---
As the door to his treehouse starter home opened with a click, Scar - a magical elf and not a youtube content creator - looked up from the elven cookies he had been baking.
“Hello? Is anybody home?”
It was Mumbo Jumbo, a vampire who was also not some human guy. He was, however, Scar’s boyfriend.
“In here,” Scar called, wiping his hands on the front of his apron, starting at the top where it covered his scitties. A moment later warm arms settled around his waist and a familiar form pressed against his back. Mumbo's impressive jumbos settled against his shoulder blades.
"Hello there," he said, laying his hands over Mumbo's.
"You're tense," Mumbo commented.
"Back pain," Scar sighed.
"Let me help?" Mumbo requested. His mumboobies were pushed against Scar's back as he began to move.
"I wouldn't mind that," Scar agreed. Mumbo's hands came up to cup his scitaments. With the significant weight taken off his upper back the dull ache in Scar's spine began to fade and he sighed happily.
"How are you?" Scar asked his lover.
"Erh," Mumbo shrugged. "I'm actually dealing with a bit of a backache myself, if I'm being honest, babe."
"Mumbo, you should have told me," Scar tutted. "What sort of boyfriend would I be if I didn't try to help. Let me go a moment?"
Mumbo complied, and as Scar turned around in his arms his snickerdoodles brushed against Mumbo's mumblebees.
Scar brought up his hands to hold Mumbo's monosaccharides, feeling the heavy Monster Energy™s in his palms. Mumbo likewise picked Scar's seismographs up again, probably admiring their muscly nature from the reverent look he was giving Scar.
"That's much better," Mumbo said. He gave Scar's left sarcophagus a gentle caress. "I love you."
"I love you too," Scar told him, unconsciously leaning closer. As he did his Scandinavian Airlines Systems pressed suggestively against Mumbo's Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sundays.
"Scar?" Mumbo asked.
"Yes, Mumbo?" Scar asked back, licking his lips.
"Are we about to kiss?"
They were.
(They did).
(With tongue).
Now, anon, if you actually want to have a conversation about this complicated topic, acknowledging the nuances, I would be happy to explain to you why I personally do not consider this to be real people shipping. But from your tone I am guessing that is not the case, so as long as you keep the circus music playing I'm going to keep on clowning.
