Happy Pacific Islander Heritage Month!!
Take some time to appreciate actors and various creators we are lucky to have in our communities. This is also a great time to remind y’all to watch out for white washing! We are so lucky to have so many talented fan artists, but there’s a real problem, especially in the Star Wars community, with white washing (namely our lovely clone troopers). I don’t have to say that representation is important at this point, but I do think different cultures, ethnicities, and heritages should not only be seen but celebrated! And if you’re like me and have limited knowledge of some of these cultures, the least we can do is make art and works representing them in media, as well as consuming media and listening to the voices of members of this community. While representation and diversity are improving, we can’t afford to write over the little that we already have, and we have a responsibility to keep up the good work. So happy creating and happy heritage month!!

I Am Not Your Asian American Doll: a comic for AAPI Heritage Month 2023
I usually spend a lot of time editing and fine-tuning my comics so that they come across as polite and inoffensive. But honestly, I’m really tired of the way Asian cultures and countries are treated / talked about while Asian people themselves are excluded, and thought it was about time I really let my rage out lol.

National Bourbon Heritage Month
National Bourbon Heritage Month is celebrated annually in the United States during the month of September. It's a time to honor and recognize the rich history and cultural significance of bourbon whiskey, one of America's most iconic spirits. Here's a summary of what National Bourbon Heritage Month represents:
Celebration of Bourbon: This month-long celebration pays tribute to bourbon whiskey, which is often considered America's native spirit. Bourbon is made primarily from corn and aged in new charred oak barrels, giving it a distinct flavor profile.
Historical Significance: Bourbon has a deep historical connection to the United States, with its roots dating back to the late 18th century. It is believed to have originated in Kentucky, although its exact birthplace is debated.
Bourbon Production: National Bourbon Heritage Month is an opportunity to highlight the production process of bourbon. To be classified as bourbon, the spirit must meet specific legal requirements, including being made in the United States and containing at least 51% corn in its mash bill.
Kentucky Bourbon Trail: Many bourbon enthusiasts use this month to visit the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail, a collection of distilleries in the state that produce some of the finest bourbons in the world. These distillery tours provide insights into bourbon-making traditions.
Tastings and Events: Throughout September, various events, tastings, and festivals are organized to celebrate bourbon. These gatherings allow enthusiasts to sample different bourbons, learn about their unique flavors, and appreciate the craftsmanship behind each bottle.
Cocktail Culture: Bourbon serves as a key ingredient in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned, Mint Julep, and Bourbon Sour. National Bourbon Heritage Month encourages people to explore the versatility of bourbon in mixology.
Economic Impact: The bourbon industry has a significant economic impact on the United States. It creates jobs, supports agriculture (through corn production), and contributes to tourism, especially in regions like Kentucky.
Education and Awareness: The month provides opportunities for educational initiatives about the history, production, and responsible consumption of bourbon. It encourages enthusiasts and newcomers alike to appreciate the craftsmanship behind this beloved spirit.
Community and Tradition: Bourbon has a way of bringing people together. Whether it's sharing a glass with friends or participating in bourbon-related events, this month fosters a sense of community among bourbon aficionados.
Responsibility: While celebrating bourbon, it's important to emphasize responsible drinking. National Bourbon Heritage Month encourages individuals to enjoy bourbon in moderation and promotes safe and responsible consumption.
In summary, National Bourbon Heritage Month is a time to raise a glass and toast to the unique American spirit known as bourbon. It's an occasion to delve into its history, savor its flavors, and appreciate the cultural significance of this beloved whiskey. Whether you're a seasoned bourbon connoisseur or just beginning to explore this spirit, September offers a chance to immerse yourself in the world of bourbon.
