Moroccan Calligraphy  Fusion is our upcoming exhibition –  it's an online group exhibition by artists from Morocco. 'Fusion' is a series of pieces of Moroccan Calligraphy and involves just over 40 incredible artworks. The artists include; Hamid Elkharbouchi, Abdelhak Assermouh & Mohammed. The exhibition is curated by HUB Collective with assistance from Poppy Lam and will be live between 14th October and 13th November 2021. This Thursday!!
Moroccan Calligraphy:  Moroccan calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy based on the Moroccan alphabet. The Moroccan calligraphy, also called as Maghrebi, has its links to Arabic. It has a rather rounded letter form with a pointed tip.The initial introduction of Arabic scripts to Morocco dates to the conquest of the country by the Arabs. The first conqueror Uqba ibn Nafi from the Arabian Penin-sula used the Kufic script which has significantly influenced the Moroccan script. The Kufic Script was usually used to write the Quran during those times and its influence naturally blended into Moroccan calligraphy. Haçienda Classical returns on Friday 28th May as part of the Haçienda House Party IV. I’ll performing with the Manchester Camerata, AMC Gospel Choir, Peter Hook, Yvonne Shelton, Melanie Williams and more for the first time in 18 months.
There will be a very limited and socially distanced audience in attendance at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester and the event will live streamed and free to watch as we raise money for charity. I’ll also be DJing alongside DJ Paulette and Peter Hook before the show.
Broadcasting from 7pm to midnight via the Haçienda You Tube Channel for free, we’ll be supporting The Christie charity and Save the Children. You can donate via Virgin Money Giving
I’m writing this ahead of rehearsals on Thursday 27th May and I have to admit to being very nervous and excited. I really can’t wait to take to the stage again and to meet everyone who makes this such a wonderful show. I hope you all enjoy this special livestream which will give you a taste of what’s to come later in the year as the show plays around the UK.

£24,500 Grant Awarded for Essential Crypt Repairs
Tumblr media
e are delighted to announce that Hexham Abbey has received a financial boost from the government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund to help fund repairs during the coronavirus pandemic.
A grant of £24,500 has been awarded to allow environmental investigation work and masonry repairs to the Abbey’s Anglo Saxon Crypt. Preserved and largely unchanged in 1,300 years, the Crypt is the only part of a church built on the site by Bishop Wilfrid in 674AD that survives intact.
This funding comes from a part of the Culture Recovery Fund called the Heritage Stimulus Fund and is administered on behalf of the government by Historic England. The grants of up to £25,000 are being allocated to cherished heritage sites across the country to cover urgently needed manintenance and repairs.
As well as rescuing precious heritage buildings in need, the injection of cash will protect livelihoods for some of the most vulnerable heritage specialists and contractors working in the sector.
The Revd David Glover, Rector of Hexham said:
“Our Anglo Saxon crypt would normally be attracting tens of thousands of visitors a year and it is vital that we do all that we can to preserve it. It is the last intact part of the original church built here by Bishop Wilfrid 1,300 years ago, so it’s of immense historical and religious significance.
“Hexham Abbey is of international heritage standing and we are absolutely delighted to receive this grant from Historic England at a time when additional grant funding is also allowing us to proceed with our important Abbey Roof refurbishment. The work here, using the very best in skilled workmanship and the very highest conservation techniques, will help preserve this incredible building for our future generations.”
Culture Secretary, Oliver Dowden, said: “These grants will help the places that have shaped our skylines for hundreds of years and that continue to define culture in our towns and cities. We’re protecting heritage and culture in every corner of the country to save jobs and ensure it's there for future generations to enjoy.”
Duncan Wilson, Historic England Chief Executive said: “Historic places across the country are being supported by the Government’s grants awarded under the Culture Recovery Fund. This funding is a lifeline which is kick-starting essential repairs and maintenance at many of our most precious historic sites, so they can begin to recover from the damaging effects of COVID-19.
“It is also providing employment for skilled craft workers who help keep historic places alive and the wheels of the heritage sector turning. Our shared heritage is an anchor for us all in these challenging times and this funding will help to ensure it remains part of our collective future.”

This is one of seven heads made as a collective totem for the @routedinbarnsley exhibition working with @lennyandwhale to celebrate the people, places and stories of Barnsley. The heads were carved from felled trees collected throughout the Barnsley borough. The wood used for these heads grew and matured over many years, and like the communities they celebrate their roots are entwined, there colours vibrant and their textures are rich and diverse. #barnsley @barnsleymht @heritagefunduk @barnsleymuseums #hereforculture #thankstoyou #sculpture #carving #chainsaw #contemporaryart https://instagr.am/p/CXfvUGYsV0B/
