Welcome back! Can I get a blurb for college!peter x black cat!reader post nwh? Lots of fluff. Maybe a tiny steamy. I have no idea on plot I’m sorry 😅
OOOOOOH I LOVE BLACK CAT!READER (i’m kinda putting mcu peter into the ps4 spider-man universe idk??)
i like ur thinking, i rlly do 🫶🏻 also thank u for the warm welcome! it’s good to be home 🙂
blurb night!
the crime in the city was unusually quiet for peter. nonetheless, he swung through the city as he did his rounds.
“and that folks is why spider-man is a menace! he’s an abomination to this city! we should all believe mysterio.” jameson practically yelled in his ear. peter laughed to himself quietly, switching to a different podcast on his phone.
“good to know i’m still hated by someone.”
his thoughts were interrupted by an incoming call. he answered it almost immediately, desperate for something to do.
“captain,” he answered.
“spider-man,” yuri said back, “there was a call about a disturbance down in hell’s kitchen. do you think you can check it out for me? let me know what’s up?”
“sure,” he said, “i’ll give you a call once i check it out.”
“sounds good,” he could hear her relieved smile on the other end, “thanks.”
“no problem.”
he started swinging towards hell’s kitchen, making his way towards the building yuri sent him the address to. once he landed on the rooftop, he let out a sigh as he stood in front of the woman in front of him.
“cat…”
“hey, spider,” she smiled, “long time no see.”
“yeah, i know.”
“i missed you,” she made her way closer to him, the claws from her gloves dragging across the nylon of his suit, “new suit? i like it.”
he moved her hands from her chest, “cat, let’s not do this right now.”
“why not, spider?” she asked, her head tilting to the side.
peter sighed, knowing he couldn’t say no to her, “what’re you doing, y/n?”
you backed up, giving him a little shrug, “talking to my favorite crime fighting spider. what’re you doing?”
he sighed louder this time, “i meant here, y/n. what’re you doing here? at the auction house?”
“getting my father’s painting back,” she said, flinging the tube of artwork over her shoulder, “what else?”
“c’mon, i can’t just let you break in and steal something-“
“steal something that belongs to me. something that was taken from me without my consent.”
she kinda did have a point…
“c’mon,” she sighed, walking up to him again, “can’t you just pretend that this never happened? just like old times. spider-man and the black cat. we could be the duo we used to be.”
she leaned up and lifted the bottom of his mask. he almost hesitated, scared of letting her see his face, until she stopped after revealing his lips. she leaned closer, her lips brushing up against his. he froze, uncertain on her intentions. and she knew she had him right where she wanted him.
“so long, spider.”
he gulped as she walked away, jumping off the edge of the. building as she made her way towards center city. he pulled his mask down, his phone ringing again. he answered.
“hello?”
“hey, any updates on that disturbance?” captain watanabe’s voice echoed.
“yeah, it was nothing,” he said, “all clear, captain.”

Did you get to choose the new team or was it the studio? Yes, no.
Have you had conversations with Marvel about their plans for the guardians now that you’re done? Yes
Are there any deleted scenes with Llyla, Rocket, Floor, and Teef? No.
Did you ever consider inserting any other Marvel characters to cross over into this picture? No
Is there a reason Quill didn't have his helmet in Guardians 3? It’s in his desk drawer in Knowhere. He had to get out of there fast as you know!
Is there an in-universe explanation as to why Quill’s ditched his helmet and rocket boots? They have jet packs. The rocket boots comparatively suck. That's like cheap shit you get in the intergalactic version of Radio Shack. And Chris could never have done those amazing hallway moves with a helmet on.
Was there a plan for a new helmet design for Star-Lord (the classic design would’ve been cool)? No.
In the scene where Rocket and Groot are dancing, was that you and your brother on set? Yes
I was VERY curious on how Drax knew the JOOB JOOB but Mantis didn’t being Ego’s translator? Drax knew the language from his childhood. It's not in anyone's translators.
Why did no one understand, or acknowledge the language on Counter-Earth not being recognized by their translators? It's a cloistered culture. It would be normal not to have their Humanimal language in the translators.
Was the line always going to be “I love you guys” or did you have other options? No
Was there any consideration given towards giving the one spoken “F***” in the movie to Groot? Consideration? Sure.
Was redesigning Howard The Duck your idea? Yes. I've redesigned him on every movie because I've never been satisfied and we were rushed the first couple times. I'm happier now.
Did you ever think about giving Howard the Duck a bigger role in these movies (just asking because he’s my favorite Marvel Character)? Yes.
Does your average MCU earthling know that the Guardians of the Galaxy exist? No
Was Miley Cyrus not able to reprise her role from Guardians 2? Was that the same character? Yes. Yes.
James is Adam Warlock single? Yes
Has Grandpa Quill heard about Peter’s world-saving adventures already? No.
Does Peter Quill’s grandfather know about Ego? No
Was there an actual dog playing Cosmo or was that CGI? No, yes.
Was the Eagle in the cage an Eagly reference? Or just an Eagle? That was actually the real Eagly.
Can Groot grow a new body very quickly now? Yes.
Will there be Vol 4? No.
Will there ever be a director’s cut of the trilogy? Yes (the trilogy as is is the Director's Cut)
Do you want to do an extended version? No.
Does Guardians 3 have an alternate ending planned? No.
Will there be a longer cut of the film that has more Michael Rosenbaum in it? No
Will there be a commentary version of this film? Yes
As early as when you were making GOTG 1, did you already have ideas on where Vol 2 and 3 would go that eventually made it in the final films? Or were your initial ideas totally overhauled along the way? Yes, no.
Did you have to fight/negotiate hard with Disney to have all of those dark scenes? Or were the pretty open to your final vision? No. Yes.
Was it difficult writing Gamora’s arc in Vol 3, knowing Infinity War was going to kill her off? No.
Nebula's arm is the Bucky's arm from Holiday Special?? No. It's way better.
I saw you mentioned Annihilus as a possible villain for Vol 3. Was he also going to be a candidate for Rockets creator? Yes.
Does Rocket keep in contact with Thor? No.
Is there a super big, deeply-hidden Easter egg like the first one? Yes.
Did Bradley do all the young Rocket voice work too? No (Noa Raskin is baby Rocket, Sean Gunn is Young Rocket)
Since Halfworld isn't a thing in the MCU (I guess this is what you retconned out from the 1st movie) does that mean Rocket isn't a halfworlder in the MCU, right? You could consider Halfworld a more intergalactic name for Counter-Earth.

Fisk in Echo
Tumblr media
Wanted to make a long post detailing my personal thoughts on Fisk's representation in the Echo series. I won't comment a lot on the series as a whole. It was good. Not gonna call it my new favorite show or say it breathed new life into an MCU that seems like it wants to die. But a good watch. Even if I did hope it would break more of the MCU mold with its MA rating.
But Fisk! Put Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Grant Fisk on my screen, and I'm there, bells on.
This is just... a dumb long post I had to write for me. You can read it or parts of it if you want.

Willie on Willie Violence
They're never gonna tells us why MCU Fisk had Ronin kill Maya's dad. Stop asking. They're not gonna say. No, they're not gonna tell us why Clint did what Fisk asked either. I said stop asking.
They really reduced what could have been an important relationship between Fisk and Willie into literally nothing. Per the comics, he was Fisk's first friend ever, his enforcer. Nothing? NOTHING?! Also they changed his last name from Lincoln to Lopez. (Apparently, heroes can only be born from a married, two-parent household? Didn't know the MCU was Catholic.) "How much agency can you remove from one man?" MCU asks and answers.
I'm not saying the comics knock it out of the park with motive. The reason Fisk kills him is still vague. (Meaning the MCU had the chance to pick up the slack but just left it there.) Vague is still better than ignoring it entirely.
I assume comic Fisk was betrayed by him in some way. And while it doesn't take much provocation for him to kill his employees, I like to assume the motive was a little more substantial for a friend.
This is why these series need to be treated like television (instead of long movies) and given more than a handful of episodes.

Maya vs Daredevil
A pretty good fight scene, definitely. Even if it is intercut with special effects instead of practical effects. I've seen people make that complaint, and it's valid. I can't decide if the inclusion of a fight between them is meant to be a bone thrown to Daredevil fans, a nod to their fight in the DD comics with Echo's origin, or both. 🤔 But since this is a post about Fisk and I'm a Fisk/Matt shipper, moving on.
Ehehehehehehe~ 😈
"None of my men have ever held their own with him like that. You did better than even I expected."
So... in preparation for DD: Born Again, I have been (and honestly, still am) unsure of where the canon will be coming from. Disney recently pushed the Netflix-verse as legitimate, but I know it has to have a point where that will break off. There's no way it can be a 1:1 continuation. So while we can be a little more bold injecting DD canon into the MCU, I'm not getting carried away yet.
Anyway, the uncertainty of Born Again has made my shipper heart wonder where/when Fisk and Matt's relationship will be. Until Echo, I questioned if it would be scorched earth, start all over, meet for the first time again. But Fisk's line establishes he is at least aware of Daredevil. They have some form of history. I'm interested and anxiously waiting for specifics to unfold. ✪ω✪
In the meantime, it's nice having confirmation that both Fisk and Matt survived Thanos's Snap and existed in those 5 years. 😈 Not only does that play into the hand of my current fanfic, it doesn't outright contradict it either. In fact, it's kind of fun imagining an AU where Matt works with Fisk and then laying it over this Echo scene. Daredevil just so happens to be at a location stalking Fisk's competition? On the same night Fisk sends in his daughter*? Hm. Suspect. Certainly he's not ensuring her safety by sending no-kill boy. 🤔🧐 Ignore me. I'm making an AU of my AU over here. 😂
*[I actually have a hard time letting go of Fisk's role as an adoptive father in the comics versus "uncle" in the shows. I can't let this go. Maybe even... won't let this go?]
......................................................................................................................
1x04
2008
So here's a very small nod that even I missed at first. In Maya's 2007 past (in Hawkeye and Echo), she is attending a regular, non-deaf school. Her dad says it's because they can't afford better. (Surely there are programs with grants? Whatever.) Now cut to 2008. Fisk picks her up from school, showing that she is on his radar and he is taking a more active role in her life. A testament to that? Maya is now wearing the uniform (with crest) of a private school.
Tumblr media
Fisk isn't the best at love, and there's no denying that. (Look at Richard's life.) But it also can't be denied that he immediately took an interest in Maya and improving her situation. He loves in his own way.
-
Anyway... so this scene confirmed with its "2008" that Fisk has been active in New York for yeeeears. Literally since the beginning of the MCU itself. I won't say it changes a lot since DD 1x01 mentions the Chitauri Invasion of 2012 and how Fisk grew parts of his empire with construction companies rebuilding from it. But confirmation is nice, ya know. And it shows that even though Fisk's name was unspoken in 2015, he had already been in some form of power for at least 7 years.
-
And then, of course, the whole "beat up the ice cream man" thing. 🍿 I mean, again, Fisk's methods are not always right, but he will protect those he cares about and punish those who hurt them. And he will be excessive about it. RIP Anatoly. 💐
I see people, even writers, make excuses for Maya's action in this scene, for kicking the man. "Children watch and copy everything." Sometimes, yes, but children know the difference between right and wrong. Children don't just mimic bad actions. What I'm saying is I'm not going to pretend Maya didn't have a touch of dark side in her with or without Fisk.
There's no denying she is much darker and more ruthless than her comic counterpart. My mouth was quite agape to see her hurt the woodpecker and then lie about it. (There's a certain classification of people who hurt animals as children. 🤔) Not even Fisk was prepared for that part of her. Calling for another jacket, telling her not to be afraid. He thought of how other children would react and got it wrong. He wasn't wrong to think she would have an aptitude for bloodshed in her adult life.
I love Fisk calling her out in this episode, that she always knew what he was and that she killed for him without compunction. There was no remorse in the flashbacks. Per Fisk's own words: "You knew what you were part of at every turn. All the people you killed for me, did you plead for their lives?" There was no disgust towards Fisk until she found out he had her father killed. One of the (I think) producers of the show says he considers Maya a villain. Aight. I think she's more of an anti-hero now, but I wouldn't call MCU Maya an outright hero, I don't think. Remains to be seen what she does with herself.

Me watching the interpreter taken away: "Not the plastic hallway!" 🙈😂
DD S3 Fisk really found an MO he could live with. lol. No one else can but...
This old man is adorable wanting to have weekly dinners with his daughter. (✿◠‿◠) You definitely leave a girl wondering where Vanessa (even a recast Vanessa) is, but okay. Now invite your other three kids on Sunday. Pfft.
I can't believe the MCU made Fisk switch out his beloved Bach for Schubert's Ständchen. 🤣🎧 (That's okay. I actually like it more. Shh.)

The Man in Red
Is it such a silly stupid thing for me to grin about the fact that the first time we "officially" see Fisk in the series, he is wearing red? Yes it is silly and stupid. Imma grin anyway. 🙃

Sir, that is... that is Daredevil's color. Sir. Sir! 😆 (Fisk said, "Daredevil wore white in the comics. Something must be done.")

Fisk Not Learning ASL
Okay so...
I think this is one of my two big sticking points in Echo's writing for him. I've already ranted to my friend about it over several texts. Fisk spoke more sign language in Hawkeye than he did in this series, and it's not like the why is some big mystery. It's sloppy writing, right? Right. It's a shortcut to contrast Maya's family in Fisk versus her biological family. Writers were like, "What's a quick, easy way we can show Maya's family does care for her more than Fisk even though they abandoned her after her mother and father died and offer nothing for it but an, 'I'm sorry'? Ooh, I know!"
Chula hated Willie enough to blame him for Taloa's death and cast him out at the cost of losing her granddaughter. "I'm sorry." Henry left her in NYC after Willie was killed, even knowing he was leaving her with Fisk. "I'm sorry." But everyone still speaks fluent sign language after 20 years, so they're better than Fisk. Did you get that? We want to make it very, very clear so you get that. 🙄
I have trouble conveying my frustration with this writing choice in words. At the very least, it's "tell, don't show." I don't need it spelled out that ordinary people are better than a serial murder crime boss. Neon sign flashing "Duh!" No one needed that spelled out!
And It was bad enough how blatant they were being, okay, but when they had Maya mention it outright at the end, word-for-word conclusion, oof. It's so... novice league. I almost get secondhand embarrassment from their ham-fisted delivery. Geez.
This man speaks Mandarin, Japanese, and some Spanish. For personal interest. He could learn ASL. You can believe the absolute worst in him and still believe he'd learn it as a method of manipulation, to make Maya think he cared. You actually have a larger burden of proof coming up with any reason why he wouldn't learn. "He doesn't care enough about her." Where's that judging cat picture saying "Pathetic"? I mean, I can sit here all day pointing over and over again at the fact he spoke more ASL in Hawkeye. So he... regressed... between series because he cares... less for her now?
Wait... he suffered a gunshot to the head. You don't think... *gasp* Maya hit the exact spot of his brain that held sign language? It's all coming together.
Uuuuuuuuuuuugh. We all have those bad writing moments we just ignore, and this is one of mine. Echo wanted a villain but they were too afraid of humanizing the one they yoinked from Daredevil. Get on their level, you cowards.
No one will ever touch your perfection, DD S1, my beloved.

Sunday Thursday Dinner
Do not let this man into your home. 🚫 He will look at your family photos and identify all of your weak spots.
Tumblr media
jk I do very much enjoy Fisk's wide wandering eyes as he walks around the house, observing. It's so good. It reminds me (if anyone else knows the overlap here) of Vincent's character in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Goren goes into a room and immediately studies any picture or book or object he can, learning everything about a person. It's exactly what Fisk was doing here, even if for reasons less than wholesome. I love when you can see the wheels turning in a character's brain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can appreciate a subtle flipping of authority between dinners. Fisk at the head of the table with Maya to his right and then the reverse of that. Nice.
Before this, if you said, "Yeah, I think Wilson Fisk would have a floral print picnic basket," you were LYING! No one could have predicted this bag. No one! You might counter with, "Yeah, but he didn't pick it out. A goon just put everything in there and handed it to him." Would you do that? Would you risk your life handing the Kingpin of all crime up the east coast a floral bag? You are so brave. You will be missed.
-
So there actually are a few bits of the show that make me think, "Okay, maybe Echo writers did watch Daredevil." It's The Little Things (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ When he brought wine, then Maya poured it out and he asked, "What happened to the Lafite?" I was ready to go "Rawr nooo. Fisk's character is supposed to be almost wine illiterate as a nod to his poor, uncultured origin." But wow, they saved it with his very next line being, "It came highly recommended." Okay, Echo. Echo, okay. For this, you get a point.
-
Tumblr media
Handing the knife to Maya, so... mwah. 💋 It's arrogant, sure, and I'd be lying to say I hated that. But more than that, Fisk really is good at reading and predicting people. Forget muscle strength, THAT is his greatest asset. And he's not wrong. Maya doesn't (then or later) hurt or try to kill him again. He knows what it's like to let emotion take hold in the moment. That's why he understands and dismisses Maya shooting him. But he also knows she has a clearer head now. He feels no danger from her, knows she doesn't really want him dead. And he's right.

"I can't remember a time... when I haven't loved you like a daughter."
I'm glad someone finally said it. Boo on the uncle/niece bit. Not to mention how many motifs of this series hit better and harder with a father/daughter relationship. Tsk tsk.
-
An interesting exchange here...
Maya: "You isolated me. Told me you were the only one I could trust. But it was all a lie. Even with these contacts, you got them because you didn't care enough to learn to sign." Fisk: "I was there for you!"
✨He is not wrong.✨ Obligatory groan at the ASL mention and... He's not wrong. Like I mentioned earlier, Maya's family abandoned her. Literally the only person who tried to keep up with her was Bonnie (angel), and Maya shunned her. (Which wasn't Fisk's influence because we see her ignoring Bonnie's texts before Fisk had a hand in swaying her one way or the other.) Maya was isolated because her family abandoned her or she cut them off. And Fisk. was. there. for. her. Without him, she seemed intent on ruining her life and getting arrested.
Granted, you'd be justified saying she wouldn't have been in that particular spiral without Fisk killing her father. (Too bad we'll never know why he did it.) But Willie could have died in a manner completely unrelated to Fisk, and her family would have reacted in the same way, not reaching out or being ignored when they do. Do you see what I'm saying? Fisk legitimately was the only person in Maya's life besides her father.
-
I think about... the people Fisk has told the story of his father's death to, speaking as if this is a true continuation of Daredevil. That would be Wesley (not shown but a given). Vanessa when he wants her to understand him and his past. And Dex, as he pulls the man back from the brink in an effort to make Dex see their similarity and how no one else could understand him like Fisk. (Other people know about it, of course, but I'm concerned with those whom he trusted to tell.)
It seems like the motivation swings between intimate trust and manipulation. Or it could be both with Dex. Honestly, who can read Fisk's mind with absolute clarity? Either way, it's a very small group. It's not insignificant that he tells Maya.
-
Love Fisk doubling down on "Maya won't kill me." Tripling down? First the knife. Then leaving himself completely unguarded with the door open while she has a gun. Then giving her the hammer and daring her. It feels less arrogant than with the knife though. He still knows she won't kill him, but it also feels less... certain here. But I like him using it as a challenge, as a "Now or never." Kill him already, or stop threatening it every five minutes. Very Fisk of him. 👌
I can't... articulate what his choice of words means to me, but they clutch at my chest as he says, "Free me!" Killing him will not only free Maya to move forward in her life, it will free him. Babygirl, how much do you hate this life you're in? ಥ_ಥ
I think I need to make another Daredevil/Echo gifset. With Fisk here saying, "Free me!" against him daring Matt in 3x13, "Come on, kill me!" (Wilson, do we need to put you on a watch?)

I'm sooooooooo normal about that old man. Really I am.
Tumblr media
I like this scene. No real reason. But it is nice to watch socially handicapped Wilson try and conduct conversation like a normal person. Helping Chula pick up the mail.
I am VERY interested in a blink-and-you-miss-it line from him here. After Chula mentions losing her daughter.
Tumblr media
"Yes, I've lost someone who I loved. It's the kind of pain you never quite get over."
*whom
I am gnawing at my keyboard. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! Is it referencing something we should already know? Is it a nod to something yet to come, something Born Again will expand on? Is he just talking about how he "lost" Maya? Is it about his father? Is Vanessa dead in this universe??? What does it meeeeeeean?!?!?!?!

⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
Attempted Murder Spree
My second big beef.
I'm not gonna argue whether Fisk would kill people unconnected to his criminal underworld in order to hurt the ones that are. No, I think they got that part pretty accurate. Evidence abounds in comics and Netflix-verse. If he wants to kill Chula and Bonnie to punish Maya, I'd only ask why he didn't go ahead and round up Henry. This plan totally plays. (Actually, if we used only existing Hawkeye content for this MCU Fisk, it would be... less likely. He didn't threaten or go after Kate at all to get at Eleanor.)
What I find ridiculous is the notion he would attempt a massacre of the entire festival. Uh... what? Someone find me a single instance (comic or screen) where Fisk attempts such widespread death and destruction of innocents. By that, I mean with innocents as the intended target and not collateral damage.
When he bombed the Russians in DD 1x05, people were hurt, but from fallout, not intent. Though there are injuries, I'm trying to think if we get more than one confirmation of death. I don't doubt there may have been more, but... And you may want to point at the attack on The Bulletin, but, though terrifying, only three people died. And I'd posit the extra two were most likely to obfuscate that Jasper Evans was the real target. Unless we want to say Bullseye (Bulls-eye) missed a dozen times.
Anyway, I think this over-the-top plot point is us witnessing an MCU-ification of Fisk. Something they need to quash NOW. It's like... gah, they admit they want his character and want him to be a smaller scale villain, a "street-level Thanos," but they still want the high stakes of "aliens are killing citizens en masse." Well, no. You don't get it both ways. And it shouldn't be that way. Smaller scale means a smaller scale. Reduce everything but write it well enough that you still get that same feeling of anxiety and dread.
The episode plays exactly the same without that bit of OOC overreach. (All it did was give Henry and Biscuits something to do in the climax.) Like... literally. You can cut those scenes without affecting anything. Does that sound like good writing? No. Just like with the ASL bit, I think the burden lies on writers explaining WHY he would do this instead of acting like it's obvious and natural. And just because Maya turned him down? He'll massacre dozens of people? I, for one, am not convinced.
⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘
The Trauma of It All
I already talked a bit about Fisk's experience being "healed" by Maya in this post. (By the way, was I the only one expecting it to heal his eye too? Ah well.) I could talk more on my annoyance of super powers that just do whatever the writers want them to in any given situation. But I breathe, center myself, and appreciate what I have been given.
I was pretty disappointed in Fisk's writing the whole episode (see point directly above) until this point. They got me back on board. They made a good decision with this final conflict and NOT having it be a physical one. While it makes Echo's writing feel all over the board, dehumanizing Fisk and the humanizing him again, looking at this one aspect feels so good for his character, for anyone who enjoyed his character before this series. Echo, you get... two points.
Visually, I love it so much. Except for the part where I want to take in every single detail of Fisk's childhood bedroom, but they cranked the fog machine too high. I see he is a Yankees fan (But what about those Mets, Spider-Man?) There's a toy helicopter in the window, a toy airplane on the chest of drawers, and a picture of a plane. Was anyone going to tell me little Wilson likes aircrafts or... There's a jar of marbles, jar of little animals. Very normal, cute room for a boy. Despite the disrepair and decay in the walls. This feels like it leans so much closer to Fisk's outright childhood poverty in the comics than just being lower class in DD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
OBVIOUSLY, I *chef's kiss* at the wonderful homage to the white wall/painting. High school English teachers could have a field day examining the symbolism. In DD 1x03, Fisk says the painting makes him feel "alone," and that emotion is perfectly captured here. We hear his parents on the other side of the wall, in the other room, but Wilson is alone in his bedroom, wanting it to stop.
I hate/love the despair and pain Fisk has being back here. I would never trauma dump on the internet. I'll just say Wilson Fisk continues to be a very relatable character for me. He is, all joking aside, very special to me, personally. And moments like this only strengthen the love I have for him. Also makes me want to slap around Fisk haters who refuse to take the time to understand him. Bah.
Tumblr media
A small thing I like is that Fisk seems able to fully understand Maya in here. Whether because he just, ya know, understands ASL (she unlocked the sign language he forgot since Hawkeye ◉o◉), or because thought transcends speech inside his head, you decide.
(づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ

I could speak for thousands of words and never finish conveying how much I love this scene. It was a very good call to go this route.

Mayor Fisk
Obviously excited for Mayor Fisk arc. There are a couple comic plots I've wanted to see Daredevil explore, and that's probably at the top of the list. (There is also Fisk and Matt working together in prison, but I'm less than hopeful we'll ever see it on screen.) I have so many questions about Fisk being mayor.
Do you think he'll still offer the job of Deputy Mayor to Matt??? Can he win honestly, or will he cheat? Can they show Fisk stealing an election without referencing ANY current events in the real world? Will the election be at the start of the series or mid-point, or will they save it (hopefully not) for a finale? Will they use this to set up future plots with Fisk?
I'm all abuzz with anticipation.
Only... over a year to Daredevil: Born Again! ╰(*°▽°*)╯
......................................................................................................................
On the very off chance you read all of this post or skimmed it and didn't see me address something you're curious of my opinion on, idk, just let me know. I'll ramble all day. Clearly.

First off, yes, his name really is John Doe LOL. He's not a very popular type of main character - at least in my experience. He's fiercely protective and cunning. And he struggles a lot with figuring himself out. He's the kind of main character that you have to follow around even when you don't agree with his decisions.
Shikamaru Nara (Naruto)
Tumblr media
Underrated fr. Like we have so very few braincell holders in Naruto and Shikamaru is a reluctant holder of one. Despite his genius we all are aware of just how human he is. He still is vulnerable to the natural things of life and his own emotions.
Yes i am going to go on living life pretending that the Burrito version of Shikamaru doesn't exist :)
Ochaco Uraraka (Boku No Hero Academia)
Tumblr media
The cute girl that could and would fight you and WIN.
She has a special place for me. She could have so easily been left at just the cute best friend girl or the poor girl gag or quirky love interest. But she isn't! And it's refreshing! She takes the path she set out on seriously. She has a kindness about her but she is also determined to do what's right. And she's prepared to take what steps she needs to protect herself and others. If you say her match with Bakugou didn't change your brain chemistry YOU'RE LYING!
Obi (Akagami No Shirayukihime)
Tumblr media
The man that he is. Full disclosure, I've read a lot of Shoujo but OBI is truly the first character that I craved more of. Seriously, I want his backstory so bad but I fear we'll never be allowed to have it. He's an assassin turned official knight. He's roguish but just as seamlessly can be a gentleman. He's dangerous but he chooses to be soft and fond. Don't even get me started on the found family dynamics!!
Minhyuk (I Love Yoo)
Tumblr media
The best big brother/best friend ever.
Minhyuk is THE BEST. And I accept Nothing Else. He's the pillar needed in crazy situations. Even if he's not physically there. He understands when to push and when to play around. Genuinely the only guy I trust with Shin-ae's literal life (Sorry, Dieter). He has her best interests at heart even when he's not completely in the know about what's going on. Dude is willing to try fighting CEOs to protect her and DID fight her stalkers.
Padme Amidala (Star Wars)
Tumblr media
Okay her taste in men is to be taken with a bucket of salt BUT!!
Come on! Queen!! Undercover specialist - posing as her on Lady-in-waiting is such a boss move! Unafraid of active warzones and assassination attempts! Fashion icon!
Loki (Thor MCU)
Tumblr media
As you may be seeing: i have a tendency to gravitate to characters that are usually inclined to manipulation and violence complex. I could genuinely go on and on about the beautiful depth of his character but then I'd get sad about what he became in Ragnarok and onwards. But yeah, love Loki - adore him truly!!!
Koushi Sugawara (Haikyuu!!)
Tumblr media
Chaotic good at its finest.
THE Morale!! THE Refreshing!! THE Mom!! OUR Vice Captain!! The lovely Suga!! The biggest chaos gremlin of them all! Would literally win in a fight with every single member of the Karasuno team (with merciless cheating lol). I love the diversity in him: he can be the steady senpai, flipping at a switch between happy-go-lucky and excitable aggression, seems like the least threatening member when he loves screwing with the other side mentally. He's great >:)
Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)
Tumblr media
Literally my favorite rendition of Wonder Woman. She's sheltered but well-intentioned. She's determined and doesn't let things like social norms get in her way. She brought humanity to a setting we constantly forget the humanity of. She's not afraid of being emotional because there's no shame in it. She showed us what some heroes forget to show us, that things aren't always good and bad guys.
Kim Dokja (Omniscient Reader Viewpoint)
Tumblr media
He's such a mastermind, he's great!! A MENACE UNLEASHED!
Okay so admittedly, i don't think I'll even be able to scratch the surface of the genius that is his character. He's literally Upgraded Coping Mechanism on top of Well-used Coping Mechanism. A Reader given the same detachment from reality that protected them but debilitated them but now it makes them the most powerful and prepared. And he uses it with so much tangible smugness

I rewatched X-men Apocalypse like today and here are my thoughts (keep in mind I barely remember the other movies and have not read a single X-men comics in my entire life. also I am incredibely sleep deprived and english is not my first language)
I don't remember much from first class but I remember I LOVED ALEX. AND THEY KILLED HIM. THEY KILLED MY BABY. (I barely remembered his name but I'm emotionally attached okay)
I also remember Erik and Charles being gay as fuck and it's so funny how hard the writers of this movie try to say "no no they're not gay" but fail miserably
Erik losing his family (AGAIN) killed me tho. he's not even my favorite character but PLEASE give him a happy ending. PLEASE. I could write an essay on why he needs a happy ending.
about Erik's family... I love and hate the "Peter is secretely Erik's son and he has to tell him" storyline. love because I have daddy issues and I love Peter and hate because there's one thing and one thing only I remember from Dark Phoenix and it's that PETER DOES NOT TELL ERIK HE IS HIS SON. IN FACT, PETER ONLY APPEARS IN LIKE THE 20 FIRST MINUTES OF THE MOVIE AND THEN FUCK OFF. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT I'LL NEVER SEE THAT DAD REVEAL ON SCREEN AND I DON'T THINK I'LL EVER BE ABLE TO HEAL FROM IT. I'll never recover. "I'm your... I'm here for my family too." will haunt me til the day I die. (Now don't get me wrong I 100% understand why he didn't tell him at that moment and it would have been fine by me IF HE HAD TOLD HIM IN DARK PHOENIX)
why does Pietro Maximoff gets so little respect? in the MCU they kill him in the first movie he appears in and the Fox changes his name and shits on the only storyline he has. why do they hate him?????
still on Erik: did he really need to be the villain again? if I remember correctly he kind of turned bad guy at the end of First Class because he killed the guy who murdered his mom because he couldn't make the coin move and then he was full on bad guy in that one X-men where they went in the past (Days of Future Past according to google) and it made sense because of his past and how he was forced to see violence as the only answer but like... AGAIN? with Apocalypse???? (according to google his name is En Sabah Nur) I get the guy had kind of manipulated his four accomplices into joining him but like... did it have to be Erik??? I get the whole repeating the cycle of violence, but isn't the point to break out of it? it feels kind of repetitive
still on En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse, I would have loved to see more how he manipulated Storm, Magneto, Angel and Psylocke to join him. while Erik had a reason to join back the X-men (he's super gay for Charles), Storm changing sides felt kind out of nowhere???? like we see her hesitate a little but we don't understand why she hesitates now when Apocalypse is fighting for the world he promised and not when he killed people (albeit to protect her but like...) I mean I guess there's the whole hero worship for Ravent but then why did she went with Apocalypse in the first place? Raven is a hero because she showed how mutants could cohabitate with humans, not by destroying them!!!! if Storm admires her, why going against everything she represents???? AND WHY DID THEY ALL WENT "yeah okay still rooting for that guy" WHEN APOCALYPSE WAS EXPLAINING TO CHARLES HOW BIG HIS CONTROL ISSUES WERE
whatever is going on with Hank and Raven... I just... don't like that ship. it made me uncomfortable when I watched First Class, it still makes me uncomfortable.
I remember liking her more in First Class and Days of Future Past tho??? she kind of annoyed me in Apocalypse. like wdym you wanna make child (I think they're children? not Peter but the rest) soldiers???? did the first X-men not teach you anything???? YOU AND HANK ARE LITERALY THE ONLY SURVIVORS OF THAT?
they never give us Storm's name??? or maybe I wasn't paying attention but I'm pretty sure THEY NEVER GIVE US HER ACTUAL NAME??? I guess I could find it if I searched on internet (update: I did, she's called Ororo Munroe, that's so cool) but I'm pretty sure they never say it in the movie???? like they just call her Storm???? DO THEY EVEN CALL HER STORM BECAUSE NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT I DON'T REMEMBER PEOPLE CALLING HER THAT EITHER???? (I have a short attention span tho)
from the little I remember of the 2000's trilogy, my favorite chatacter is Storm and I was so sad she had like so little dialogue. I hope it's better in Dark Phoenix??? I mean I'm not gonna rewatch it because I remember really not liking it the first time but PLEASE I BEG YOU let my girl TALK and have a PERSONALITY
Kurt is adorable. I just want to wrap him in bubble wrap and make sure nothing happens to him ever again.
I like Jean but I really don't care for her whole Phoenix thing. it probably has to do with how many times I've watched X-men 3 when I was younger (too many times) and how much I did not like Dark Phoenix but it bores me. like okay we get it she has that dangerous thing inside of her and it's very destructive and it's going to kill everyone she loves and she's going to have to die to prevent that. we get it. can we move on now? idk it frustrates me that Jean gets to have a movie centered around her not once but twice while both Peter and Ororo (and so many other but they're my favs) can't have basic character development.
I genuinly did not care for Scott. also how did he not get character development when his brother died??? he cried about it 2 seconds and then poof. out of sight out of mind. I wanna know how he gets rid of his grief so easily
I've checked when the other movies take place and... I don't understand... how are they aging... I'm so confused... wtf is that timeline... why is there a movie every 10 year? what is everyone's age ????
do I regret rewatching this movie? yes. yes I do. now I am going to obsess over how they could have handled so many things (notably Peter's daddy issues) so much better and lose all my sleep to fix-it fics.

Strange #9 Review
(Yes, I know the last issue is tomorrow and I’m super late. I blame my adhd. You know, the thing with deadlines? It’s a me)
Anyway, there are a few details I want to point out in this issue and some fundamental bits that I’d like to delve into. So let’s start with this panel.
Tumblr media
I find it hilarious but I can understand why some people are not happy about Clea’s portrayal. It’s true she has never been this feral before but *IMO* I think it’s valid for her to have this side because 1) she was raised by Umar and Dormammu. Her father was a simp, her mother, a narcissistic queen, and her uncle is freaking Dormammu. Besides, let’s assume one cycle in the Dark Dimension equals 1000 years on Earth. We don’t know Clea’s age but we do know she was born during their reign so I assume she has a few centuries there at least; 2) she was the leader of a rebel army. My girl is not one sweet damsel in distress at all. She fought a war and saw many of her friends die; and 3) she has Faltinian blood. I’m glad she redirect their need to conquer towards love, though. So, in conclusion... I pretend I do not see it.
PS: Stephen’s pose like he were Batman sent me!!
Now let’s focus on this part because it’s always reassuring whenever a writer confirms what I’ve been talking about since forever ;-;
Tumblr media
I usually tend to describe him as a healer, but doctor is also a good word once he knew that was his call since he was eleven.
Tumblr media
And this is why I can’t accept whenever someone calls him self-centered (partially due to his MCU portrayal). Stephen is altruism incarnate. He’s very kind and doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice himself in order to save people’s lives (which is also shown later in the preview). This is not my personal instance, it’s literally all over this volume and so many other books.
And this panel pretty much sums up what I was trying to say about both Clea and Stephen.
Tumblr media
We never managed to see Clea’s past and what it felt like to be raised in such a place. But we do know that she finally learned love through him, which is super unusual because love is most often associated with female characters, not the other way around. And this happened in the 60′s!
And noooow let’s appreciate Stephen’s sappiness because omv how I missed this. He’s been looking for someone to be this sappy with for ages ever since Clea left! It didn’t work with any of his flings because truth be told, he’s a hopeless romantic 🤧 Clea is lucky 💜 (and she blushes!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now my favorite part because they’d be talking about Marc and Victor, it was such a bingo for me (for those who don’t know, they’re part of my top 5 characters tee-hee)
Tumblr media
I love that they're trying to justify their faves here. Friendly reminder that Marc once stole Stephen’s powers in (ew) Age of Khonshu, so it’s kinda shocking for Stephen to hear that there’s kindness in Marc (but there is!!!). Meanwhile, Clea doesn’t really know Victor’s soft spot (yet) and they don’t usually see eye to eye, but Stephen is far more familiar with Victor and has seen kindness in him a few times (although yes, Victor isn’t one to give things freely. Listen, he’s complicated! *my Stephen side vouching for Victor is showing, I know...)
Moving on, I’m glad there’s an explanation for how Clea managed to become Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme without a new tournament. People be discussing this and tbh I was kinda tired. I just wait for things to be explained and look! Turns out it was.
Tumblr media
Also I cry.
Tumblr media
Aaaand he’s making jokes about being dead 💀
Tumblr media
Moving on... Here I am once more, praising Jed for showing impeccable knowledge on Stephen’s lore. Director None reveals that he was in contact with the Trinity of Ashes and also working for them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Sorcerer Supreme, the magic deities were forcing Stephen to fight for them in the War of the Seven Spheres. He refused and lost part of hs power until he finally agreed to serve them. Except that the war lasted five thousand years. In order to preserve Stephen’s sanity, the Vishanti suppressed his memory of it (Sorcerer Supreme #48; #80).
Director None is using the revenants to spread chaos and pain in order to please the Trinity, but he’s also preparing a vessel for them. And this vessel is... well, THE Sentry.
Tumblr media
Which is not only super dangerous but also painful for Stephen due to their history. Stephen once assisted Bob with a spell to make the world forget that he existed in order to eliminate the Void - Sentry’s “dark side" manifest (Sentry #4-5). Stephen also helped Bob with his mental health by locking him in his own mindscape (it was not ideal but it was the only way for Bob to feel safe without the Void’s influence). Stephen lied to Bob about the Void (it was somehow locked in the Sanctum?) and for that Bob ended their friendship (Doctor Strange #381-385).
Tumblr media
It’s true that Bob died several times (last one was Knull’s doing, a very graphic and violent death, to put it mildly). But hm, it’s the Sentry. He always comes back. He’s like Marvel’s Superman, and that includes his strength. He beat Hulk in WWH. He’s that strong. So yeah, Clea and Stephen are really screwed =D
I’ve already read the preview pages for #10. I’m saving it all for tomorrow, though. I’m very much excited and it’s been a long journey. Can’t wait to see how Stephen will come back to life and how they’ll rekindle their marriage I’m not expecting spicy tomorrow but I won’t be denied in v6!! Did you hear me, Jed? I want my spicy!!
As usual, delicious food! See y’all tomorrow <3
(PS: I have access to the Infinity Comics now and I need to write a post on Victor Strange because Ewing is indeed cooking something for him. And I can finally have a full view on that by reading the Strange Tales compilation. Soon!)

The team would be leaving very soon with the intention of finally putting an end to HYDRA. Seren used the chaos of preparations to maneuver her way through the base. Nobody batted an eye on her. Before she knew it, she was right where she planned to be.
One of the guards saw her approaching the doors and moved in front of her. "You can't go in there—"
Seren never used her powers to intimidate people for her personal gain, but this was a special case. "I need to talk to him." As soon as she showcased her powers through her fingers, the guard stepped down and she was granted access into the room. Truthfully, she took a few breaths before being able to step inside. As brave as she wanted to portray herself to be, there was a subtle slowness in her pace when she took steps forward.
"Aah, you. I was wondering when you'd come to visit." Arnim Zola straightened up in his chair as Seren approached the table. His wrists were still cuffed. "I imagine your entire team must be on the race to stop Schmidt."
Seren swallowed very hard and pressed her hands on the top of the chair she was supposed to sit in. She noted the way he looked at her from head to toe. "Stop it," she ordered. She despised the smirk on his face. "If I could, I'd—" The harsh sound of metal cramming together cut her off and Seren pulled her hands off the top of the chair to see it ruined.
Zola let out a low hum as he examined the damage on the chair. "Your strength seems stronger than I remember…"
"That's what happens" — Seren couldn't help it; she slammed her hands down on the table, leaving a dent — "when you stop drugging me and cutting me open over and over!"
"Perhaps an oversight on my part…but thanks to you, we discovered so much. You helped fuel HYDRA. Had you been on our side willingly, you would have made a perfect soldier."
"Your 'perfect soldiers' end up dead," spat Seren. "We've killed so many of them and I can't wait for all this to be over because you are going to be under my jurisdiction and let me tell you that I come from a ruthless matriarchy. My grandmother taught me well and while we don't always see eye to eye, we'll both agree on the perfect way to punish you."
"Vengeful," Zola remarked, "You didn't give that kind of energy—"
"When I was lying half conscious on an examining table? Hm," Seren crossed her arms, "I might have been a little bit exhausted then. You did use me as your 'fuel' 8 out of 10 times when you were experimenting on humans. Seven of those were on Sergeant Barnes, by the way."
"It's true that I had my favorites," Zola said. "I knew that you and Barnes would have been my best creations had I had more time."
"More time?" Seren said incredulously. "YOU HAD ME FOR A WHOLE YEAR! YOU WANTED MORE!?"
"Science takes its time, Seren—"
"YOU DO NOT USE MY NAME!" Seren shoved the chair out of her way and reached for Zola over the table.
Not a second later did the guards burst into the room to pull her back.
"Let me go!" Seren exclaimed, trying to take Zola's handcuffed wrists with her even if it meant ripping them off him. "I SAID LET GO!"
It took three of the guards to drag her out of the room and even then, she almost managed to get back inside.
"What is going on here!?" Phillips came storming down the hallway to see the guards still fighting to hold Seren down.
"She tried to—"
"LET GO!" Seren yelled and, just like before, the moment her hands started glowing, the guards let her go.
"What is the meaning of this?" Phillips demanded to know again just as Seren tried getting through the guards. "Seren—"
Seren whirled around, filled with ire and glowing hands. "WHAT?"
Phillips was startled with her but quickly overcame it and demanded her to calm down. "You shouldn't be here. Everyone else is getting ready to leave."
"I had to see him," Seren walked up to him. "I had to tell him what was going to happen once I had him."
"Excuse me?" Phillips raised an eyebrow at him. "Once you have him? That's not…that's not happening."
"In your words, excuse me?" Seren returned the favor with the same raised brow.
"It's not in stone yet but the SSR has plans for Zola—"
"What—?"
"—therefore, nobody touches him."
If there was ire in Seren's eyes before, now it was more like pure fire blazing in them. "You want to — do you know what he did? Do you know what he did to me? To Sergeant Barnes? To half of your army!? Are you insane!?"
"It's not ideal but we're not in an ideal world, Seren. This is what the higher ups want and we must fulfill the orders."
Seren smiled sourly. "Unfortunately, I don't officially work for the SSR, do I? You don't even have my full name, right?" Her smile dropped and suddenly, Phillips was facing a very different woman from the one he'd known so far. "You met me at my lowest, but I am not there anymore. There's a reason that HYDRA kept me for so long, and I wouldn't want to unleash that on the side that I have grown very fond of."
"I don't appreciate threats," Phillips said, frowning. "You don't work for us, fine. You can leave the headquarters and go about your way. But that means you can kiss any kind of communication assistance with your mother goodbye."
"Don't threaten me with something out of your power, commander. Howard Stark can do whatever he likes after hours and I'm sure he'd be more than helpful. Like it or not, I will be taking Zola into Celessian custody because I guarantee you that once my mother and my grandmother find out what happened, they aren't going to let you use him for your 'plans'," Seren smiled tightly. "And if you think I'm bad, wait till you meet them."
"Seren, wait—" Phillips watched her take off in a storm. "Seren!"

It didn't take long for Steve to get word of what happened with Seren and Zola. When he first heard about it, he was readying their team up for their entrance strategy. He wished he could have left the moment Peggy spoke to him, but it wasn't until an hour later that he managed to get out. Curiously enough, he found Seren in one of the bunkers. She was lying flat on her back on a lumpy bed when he walked in, eerily calm. He had heard she'd been quite the struggle to "put down", a description he wasn't very fond of.
"Hey…" He took small steps towards her.
Seren still felt like she was being consumed by her anger and the last person she wanted to take it out on was Steve. She swallowed, pushing down the swirl of emotions. "How did you not murder Phillips when he was so disrespectful to you in the early days?"
Steve mused on the answer. "I don't know, guess I was never one for throwing hands when I didn't have to."
Seren propped herself up on her elbows and deadpanned him. "You're joking right? You really think Bucky didn't tell me stories about you in New York?"
Steve rolled his eyes. "That punk."
Seren cracked a smile at him. "Just so we're clear, if I had my way, I would've been happy to throw a couple punches at Zola and Phillips." The look on Steve's face implied that he'd felt the same at some point. With a sigh, she fell flat on her back again and looked up at the shabby ceiling. "I'm not sorry for what I did. I'm only sorry that you felt responsible for me that you had to come and talk to me. And I'm sorry that...that I looked more like an alien than a human back there."
"What?" Steve looked at her with wide eyes. "I didn't think — I would never think that."
Seren's smile spread across her face. "That sounds like you."
Steve came over and sat down on the foot of the bed. Seren shifted her body closer to the wall to make more room for him. Nobody said a word for a while, ironically leaving a heavy feeling in the air. Eventually, the nagging question made it out of Steve's lips.
"Seren…why?"
"Why do you want to get Schmidt?" Seren countered perfectly with.
Steve sighed. "Seren—"
Seren sat upright as she let her own sigh out. "It all stems from the same place, Steve. I needed to see Zola. For once, I needed to be on the other side. I needed to be in control. I needed to tell him what was going to happen to him."
Steve had heard a few things from Peggy who had gotten her information from Phillips. To say that he was surprised that Seren was out for blood would be a flatout lie. He was out for blood too. To argue that they were better than this would be entirely hypocritical.
"The SSR wants to keep him, Steve," Seren said, bringing her legs on the side of the bed to sit next to him. "He's not going to be a prisoner. He's not going to pay for what he did to me, to Bucky, to everyone else. Does that sound fair to you?"
Not in the slightest, Steve thought. He had no idea what the SSR had in mind for Zola. He never thought to ask. He just assumed that Zola would be punished.
"I want to take Zola," Seren said sternly. "If the SSR won't make him pay for what he did to the humans, then he can answer for my pain with Celessian jurisdiction."
"You want to…you want to take him to your home planet?" Steve met her gaze. "But that means…you'd leave too?"
Seren swayed her head. "It's not like that, Steve. I meant every word I said to you before. I want to be with you, I want to see New York with you…but I also need to do this for me. When my mother finds out what happened, she's not going to want to take Zola for trial. She's going for blood. My grandmother already dislikes humans. I don't even want to know what she would do to Zola if she got the chance. I want justice and I'm trying to follow the best ethical path here."
Steve reached for her hand and held it between them on the bed. "You don't have to explain things to me, Seren. I just want you to be okay. If you need to leave for a while, I won't stop you."
"I don't intend on leaving you behind," Seren reiterated, squeezing his hand. "Couldn't do it even if I tried."
As selfish as it might be, Steve felt a wave of relief wash over him. He couldn't let go of Seren. "Good...Just know that I have a lot of things I want to show you after this."
Seren rested her head on his shoulder. "Yeah? Like what?"
"New York is big. We'd start with Brooklyn, of course."
"Ah, gonna show me where you grew up?"
"Yeah. I figured I'd go talk to Bucky's family anyways. He has a little sister, you know? Don't want her to feel like she's going to be all alone now."
Seren felt herself smile again as she grew even fonder of Steve. "That's so sweet of you. You think I could meet her? I, um, I spent a lot of time with Bucky when we were with HYDRA. I don't know, I...maybe I could help comfort her?"
"Of course," Steve nodded, dropping a kiss on her hair. "And then, we could go get some cinnamon rolls." Seren chuckled. "There's this place Bucky and I always went for sweets. I think you'd like it."
"Well, that does sound very tempting, Mr. Rogers," Seren said, smiling from ear to ear. These little things are what stopped the darkness from completely consuming her.
They stood up together, hands still interlocked. Seren felt Steve's gaze was lingering on her for a reason.
"What…?" She ultimately asked, figuring he was reluctant to say it out loud out of fear.
"Please don't go looking for him again," Steve said. "Trust me, I'd like nothing more than to rip that man to shreds but the idea of you and him in the same room together makes me sick."
"Trust me, I wasn't fond of it either," Seren admitted. "I just had to do it, I'm sorry."
"It's alright, you don't have to apologize."
Seren leaned up on her toes and kissed him for a short moment. "I'm so lucky to have you," she whispered inches from his lips.
Steve nuzzled his nose beside hers, taking the moment to relish in her presence. "Me too."
They had just kissed again when the door opened.
It was Howard on the other side, looking apologetic but for some reason excited. "Oh, I, uh…Seren! Great news!"
"What, Phillips isn't demanding my formal resignation?" Seren said with a snort.
"Whaddya mean, you're like me," Howard grinned. "We're untouchable because of our amazing qualities."
"He's got that right," Steve said, turning to see Howard's smirk. "I was talking about Seren."
Howard rolled his eyes. "Anyways — Seren, you gotta come! It's important!"
Seren wondered what the hell could be a reason to be so happy about given what they were preparing to do.
"It's the transmitter!" Howard said before taking off.
Seren's eyes widened when she looked up at Steve. Curious, they went after Howard and followed him into the lab.
It was there that Howard showed them the transmitter that, according to him, had not stopped beeping for the past 10 minutes. Howard told them he believed that there was an incoming transmission but had not played it until Seren showed up. Now that they were together, he let the transmission play. As soon as it started, a female voice came through. While it played, both Howard and Steve looked at each other with the same bemused expressions. The woman spoke in a language that neither of them knew, although Steve did recognize it as Seren's mother tongue — Celessian.
Seren's expression was entirely different, of course. Her entire face had lit up like the sun. Her face was as close to the transmitter as possible, cheek nearly pressed up against it as if the volume was too low. She replayed the transmision twice before letting out a loud shriek of laughter.
"That's my mom! That was my—" she straightened and spun around to Steve and Howard, grinning from ear to ear. "My mom heard it! My mom heard our — she knows I'm alive! She's coming — she's coming to get me!" She bounced like a child until she met Steve in an excited hug. "That was my mom! It was her voice! It was my — that's my mom!" Tears filled her eyes as the emotions started swirling inside her.
Steve felt her bone crushing grip around him and kissed her hair. He was so happy for her and wanted nothing more than to help her reach her mother.
Seren soon pulled away from Steve and went to thank Howard with a hug and kiss on the cheek. Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks at the thought of seeing her mother again.
"She said she's coming," Seren said, looking between Steve and Howard. "She's — she's going to come here! She's following the transmitter's location."
"I-I can't believe it honestly worked!" Howard said.
Seren laughed. "It did because you're a genius! She heard my voice and she's coming here, for me!"
"How long will it take for her to get here?" asked Steve.
"Time works differently, remember?" Seren said. "So does travel. She could get here in 5 minutes, or tonight, or next week. But it doesn't matter how long it takes because…she's coming." Her smile started to spread again. "She knows that I'm alive. My mom is coming for me." She walked over to Steve who already had his arms opened for her. He wrapped his arms around her and let her excitedly babble on.
The air of joy lasted until it was really time to get ready again. It brought the reality which was that most of them needed to head out.
"Seren, if you want to stay here in case she shows up…" Steve started to say when they were about to leave. They had piled on their equipment out on the road and nearly everyone was already in their modes of transport which varied between cars and motorcycles.
Seren was the only one who would fly, of course, which was why she was the last one out. As soon as she heard what Steve was saying, she shook her head. "No, I…I told you I was coming. What Schmidt helped do to this world, to Bucky, I'm not forgetting. Besides, my Mom will understand why I'm doing this."
"And she's going to be happy knowing that we got you out of experiments only for you to head into a war that's not yours?"
Seren hummed with a sway of her head. "I'm sure she'll understand once we explain everything. Besides, I think she's going to be over the moon about the people I've met here. Peggy, Howard…you."
"Me…" Steve suddenly felt more nervous about meeting this woman than he had about the entire war. He gulped and smiled down at her.
Seren giggled at his reaction. "My mom is going to love you," she cupped his face and kissed his lips. "You're Captain America, for God's sake."
"Pretty sure up there," Steve looked up at the sky, "that means nothing."
Seren laughed. "Still, she'll adore you almost as much as I do. Now c'mon." She dragged him towards the others to go out together.

The ride through the forest was planned down to the last dot. Sure they may have accidentally tapped one of the warning wires on the ground but it really only sped up the process. Steve led from the ground on motorcycle and Seren was farther up ahead in the air, warning the others what was coming. She was glad to see Steve literally set fire in his trail with HYDRA agents. Another HYDRA agent pulled up alongside Steve, ready to attack with a grenade. Steve had just plucked the grenade out from the man's arm when a ball of fire collided against the man, taking him and his ride out. Steve knew that was no fire ball — stars were very pretty and menacing. He then chucked the grenade behind him, making sure to finish the job altogether.
Seren stopped near a crowd of trees that just overlooked the HYDRA compound. This was the only part she hated about their plan but she focused on the outcome of it. Steve was "captured" by the HYDRA agents after being overwhelmed on ground and was soon taken inside the compound. Seren watched it all happen and waited just like they planned. Then, she quietly slipped from the trees and flew over the compound's wire-barred gates.
A few agents on top of the roof spotted her and began to fire in her direction. She threw spheres of star matter down at them, enveloping their weapons in a raging fire. She then landed on her feet and collided her fist against an agent's face. She heard the distinct noises of ziplines just around the corner and hurried to finish. She rushed down the open corridor, shoving agents into and through the wall. She ducked just as another agent fired on her — she recognized the tesseract-infused weapon and, angrily, fired star bolts with both hands at the man. Once he was down, she went through the hole in the wall and found herself in the highest floor of the compound.
Shit. Seren looked over the rail and saw a bit too much of HYDRA for her taste. Flashes of her time in the med rooms filled her vision for a moment, the collective laughs of agents, the prodding, the cutting…
Seren felt her heart pound under her chest. She'd notice that her nightmares had started seeping into her day life, especially when she was in close proximity to HYDRA bases. Her breath shortened and no matter how hard she breathed, it didn't feel like it was enough. She had no idea what it was. Get it together! This can't happen right now! She couldn't afford to go through one of her episodes right now, not when they were so close.
For some reason, her mind went to Bucky; the one who wasn't with them anymore. They'd gone through very similar procedures and they managed to kill him. You're so close now…get them. Seren wished she could have talked more to Bucky about these times because as much as Steve offered to be with her, HYDRA had not messed with him the way they had with her and Bucky.
You're still here. Make sure that they never do the same to another person again. Seren balled her fists. This one's for Bucky.
She jumped over the rail and as she landed on her feet, the agents nearby turned on her. Bullets and fire came from every direction around her. She put her hands together, creating a shield of star matter impenetrable to the incoming fire. Seren waited for the right moment and then disbanded her shield, sending waves of star energy around her, knocking the agents in her wake. She stormed off further inside the compound, hearing screams and more bullets the closer she got to the end of a corridor. She also heard the entrance of the compound come down as hundreds of their army came crashing into the building. The Allies were in.
She continued down the hallway, striding the more terrified HYDRA agents she heard in the background. There was something so inexplicably satisfying hearing the enemy nearly cry as they crumbled to their feet. It made her breathing easier. She followed the trail of undisturbed HYDRA agents and forced them down to their knees. The only moment she stopped was when she stumbled into a room that resembled another med-room. Her eyes scoured over the familiar tools and her mind immediately thought of the implications. Med-rooms, tools, med-bed…their experiments were not done, not by a long shot.
And just like that, she felt her air cut again. Her eyes continued to take in the details of the room and suddenly, she wasn't there anymore. She was back on the examining table, strapped, screaming for help.
She opened her eyes and she was back in the desolate room. She swallowed hard, feeling a sheet of sweat with a horrid heat accompanying it. She raised her arms, noticing her trembles, and opened fire on the room. She screamed at the top of her lungs as she burned everything inside.
She stumbled out of the room, hand gripping the door ledge on her way out. She panted for air, feeling monumentally exhausted. She blinked fast, hard, to rid herself of the memories. She could hear herself screaming again, and then Bucky's. They were both in the same room for a procedure...
Nearby bullets pulled Seren out of her memory. She used the wall to support herself and made it out of the room. She had to calm herself down before she got hurt. Little by little, she gathered more strength (even if it was by force) and picked up her pace down the corridor. She spotted another HYDRA agent down the hallway at an intersection with what she recognized as not one but two more tesseract-infused guns. She hurled a series of star bolts at the agent, throwing him and his weapons down the other end of the corridor.
To her surprise, Steve stepped out from the other corridor, looking just as surprised as she was to see her. "Hey, you…" He immediately saw the fatigue in her eyes and the slow in her pace. "Seren?" He made a rush towards her but she waved him off just as they met halfway. "What's — are you alright? Are you hurt?" Before Seren could tell him she was fine, Steve verified for himself if there were any visible injuries on her.
"Steve, it's okay, I'm good…" She let out a breath, "I...I'm good." No, she was not. She was far from it but she couldn't turn her back now.
Steve nodded with her. "Schmidt went through the doors, I'll—" But Seren already knew what he was going to say.
She grabbed the sides of his face and pulled him down into a kiss. They would have liked to stay there for longer than they actually did but the sounds of nearing bullets forced them to break apart.
Steve took one of Seren's hands from his face and gave it a gentle kiss. "Please be careful," he looked down at her with nothing but love. Seren felt it and smiled. "And I'll see you soon."
"You be careful too."
Steve let go of her hand and she had to let him go too. She watched him backtrack until he turned and broke into a run to follow after Schmidt. Taking in a breath, she continued on her way down the corridor in search of more med-rooms. She couldn't risk there being another room with another victim.
She was rocked on her feet after what she presumed was a bazooka had gone off. Who let Dum Dum near another bazooka? She could only wonder how gleeful the man was right now.
She encountered another med-room at the other end of the corridor and this one seemed only recently used, with some blood still dripping from a slicer. Gritting her teeth together, she looked around for any little HYDRA agent hiding around in the room. She wasn't naive; the victim was no longer with them. So, just like the first room, she burned it to ashes. She wasn't sure if this was healing her or making it worse…but it didn't matter. She was doing it for reasons and people, and there was nothing that was going to make her stop.
She only stopped when her feet stumbled and it wasn't of her own doing, nor a bazooka. The rumbling that the base gave didn't seem to be of any weapon, but Sereon soon recognized the sound the stronger it got. A plane.
She hurried back into the corridor, and saw a mixture of allies and HYDRA agents at a crossfire, both sides stumbling with the great roar of the plane. Schmidt had to be trying to make his escape with the bombs.
"Seren!" She heard her name and whirled around to see Dum Dum himself calling her over. "We found the monitors!"
Seren didn't waste a second and ran after the man. They burst into the monitor room where a few of their other allies were, all trying to hack into the tech. Seren made her way to the front of the room and saw the visuals of the entire compound, including the hangar. She'd been right; Schmidt had taken possession of a plane that had just taken off. She searched through the controls, ordering everyone else in the room to, quite kindly 'shut the hell up' so she could focus and find the right ones.
"What are you trying to do?" Dum Dum was the only one who dared to near her in her frantic state. "It's locked. There's no way we can turn it back from here—"
"I know," Seren gritted her teeth. "But we can at least open a line of communication. My gut is telling me that dear old Captain America boarded that plane too. I need their coordinates now."
Dum Dum wouldn't argue with that intuition. He looked back at the rest of Howling Commandos and shared the same concern. They knew what fury in Seren looked like and they were not interested in being in the same room if she unleashed it. A few minutes later, the entire room froze in their spots as a fierce blinding light shot from the distance. Seren looked out the window, trying to make it out despite the great distance they were at.
"What the hell is that?" Phillips' voice carried in seconds before he and Peggy joined the room.
Peggy rushed forwards until she stood beside Seren who had not stopped gazing and really only looked miserably pale. "Seren?" she touched the woman's arm. "What is it?"
"It's the Tesseract," Seren swallowed hard. "It's…it's sent a beacon."
"A beacon? To where?"
Seren could only shrug. "I have no idea. The Tesseract is not supposed to be trifled with, much less experimented on. Only the Asgardians know what it does but I learned enough to know that it's never supposed to act like that. Steve, he's there and…" Her stomach began to churn with knots. "I should be there — I should go out there—"
"Seren!" Peggy grabbed Seren's arm just as she made a turn to leave. "You can't!"
"The Tesseract is volatile and I don't care how enhanced Steve is, he is not immune to it! I'm not even immune to it!" Seren ripped her arm out of Peggy's grip with all the intentions of heading out when a static noise came from the radio.
Everyone turned to the controls, eyes falling on the radio just as cut-up words came through. Little by little, the sound corrected itself and Steve's calls were coming through, asking for help.
Seren beat everyone out to the radio and grabbed it. "Steve? Steve, what's going on!? Are you alright!?"
"I'm fine!" Steve said, though Seren doubted that considering where he was.
"Where's Schmidt?"
"Schmidt's dead."
"One piece of good news. And the plane?"
"That's a little bit harder to explain…"
"Just…just give us your coordinates," Seren said, swallowing hard. "We can —we can find a landing site or I can—"
"There isn't going to be a landing. Schmidt's locked the navigation system. And there's more than enough power to reach the East Coast."
Seren was flabbergasted, so much that she turned to Peggy, to Phillips, the Howling Commandos — anyone who could help her.
"Maybe…maybe we can get Howard on the line," Peggy made the suggestion that first popped into her head. She glanced back at Phillip, the man already grave in the face knowing what was going to happen.
Seren took the offer and repeated it to Steve. "He's a genius! He can help!"
"I'm sitting on a hundred tons of explosives. Hotwiring this thing's not an option," Steve replied, forcing himself to appear calm. The fact was that facing death while completely lucid was not as glorious as the drafters made it sound. "I've got to put her in the water."
"But you said you couldn't steer it…" Seren said weakly.
"I can't. But I think I can crash it."
"Oh, that's a whole lot better…" Seren despised herself for actually feeling a genuine anger towards him right now.
"It's hard, I know, but right now, I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer, a lot of people are going to get hurt." And that was something that Steve couldn't and wouldn't let happen. It was the whole reason he signed up. He wanted to help and protect people. He couldn't be selfish.
"But…I can…I can fly out there, I can go after the plane and…"
"No, you won't." Steve had no doubt in his heart that Seren wouldn't hesitate to chase after him in the vast ocean. He just couldn't let that happen. "You're fast but this thing is faster and by the time you get here…I don't think there's going to be much left to find."
"No, but…" Seren's eyes filled with tears pretty fast. She fell into the chair beside her, feeling like she was losing the air in her lungs in a whole new way. "You were supposed to…we were going to come back together…"
Steve actually felt his heart break little by little remembering what they had planned for themselves after the war. "Seren, listen to me, okay? You're…you're going to go back to New York, alright?"
"But what am I sup—"
"Brooklyn, you hear me? The bakery? It's been there since I was born. My mom used to bring me bread from there all the time growing up…she would say have one and I had about five instead."
Seren chuckled through her tears. "You stuffed your face with bread?"
"It was sweet bread, thank you very much. Filled with sugar."
"Oh God…"
"You're going to go there and buy yourself a cinnamon roll. Have some on me, okay?"
"N-no..." Seren tried breathing normally but her breath hitched in her throat and suddenly she was shaking with tears.
"And then when you're ready, you're going to see your Dad, okay?"
"I don't know about that…"
"You will," Steve insisted, smiling through his own tears. The vast ocean was getting closer and closer to him. "Because he's going to love you."
"But he has no idea I exist."
"So imagine how much he's missed out on? You are an amazing woman, sweet, strong as hell, and so brave." In those last moments, Steve would only remember his moments with Seren and only her. If darkness was going to come for him, he'd lean back on his star to light his next route. "Everything you went through and you still hold so much love in your heart. That's why I love—"
There was a loud hiss and then static as the radio went silent.
Seren squeezed the radio in her hand until it broke into pieces. Tears of anguish and anger spilled from her as she slammed her fists into the controls. She smashed once, twice, and a third…then let herself collapse over them and sobbed.

Getting back to headquarters was like a dream sequence, if anyone asked Seren. She remembered that Peggy had to physically walk her out of the control room and the compound altogether. She remembered she did not fly — she couldn't fly — and that she rode with some of the Commandos. She didn't remember what they talked about, if they talked at all. What she did remember was Peggy telling her that she had a home with her for however long she needed/wanted.
Seren followed Peggy inside headquarters, and heard the bustling noise of the other agents until one stood out. Howard Stark had never ran so fast.
"Agent Carter! Seren! You'll never guess—!" He stopped in his tracks upon seeing Seren's tear-stained face and Peggy's grim one. His own expression changed in that moment. Eyes looking past the two women, he could easily tell who did not make it back.
"Seren is going to need to rest," Peggy spoke on the woman's behalf. She got the feeling Seren wouldn't be much of a talker for a while.
"Um, yeah," Howard cleared his throat, "I actually have something Seren needs to see."
"Howard, now's not the time," Peggy said, trying to pull Seren with her but Howard blocked the way. "Mr. Stark, this isn't—"
But someone else spoke and it was not in any language that Peggy knew. Seren's head snapped up, twinkling eyes scouring the place until she found the source of the voice. A short woman with shoulder-length brown hair and dark eyes stood a few feet behind Howard. She wore a strange suit, one that Peggy knew for a fact Howard wasn't responsible for.
The woman spoke in the strange language again and suddenly Seren was pushing past Peggy and Howard. "Mom!" she cried and ran into her mothers arms where she burst into tears again.
Liana Dade stumbled back with her daughter's force but held onto her like she would slip away. She wrapped a protective arm around Seren's back, dropping kisses in her hair.
Peggy stepped closer to Howard, quietly mumbling to him without ever tearing their eyes off the mother and daughter. "When did this happen?"
Howard used the same mumble tactic to answer. "An hour ago. Speaks English, by the way. Came tearing a new one through headquarters raging that we let her daughter go. Took me a while to explain things to her."
"How did she get here so fast?"
"Apparently, the Tesseract acted as a beacon an hour ago."
Peggy knew exactly what that had been. The blinding light they'd seen from the control room. Seren's mother must have seen it or captured its readings.
Seren was a mess when she pulled back from her mother, mixing her English words with Celessian. Liana held Seren's head, urging her to calm down for her own wellbeing.
"It's alright, you're alright now," she said to Seren, smiling brightly through her tears of joy. "You're safe and we're—we're going home now. I'm taking you home."
"No! No!" Seren shook her head fervently. "No, Mom! Steve — he's — the ocean — the Tesseract — all their fault — he's stuck!"
"Seren—"
"We need to find him!" Seren started pulling on her mother's arms to follow her God knew where. "You're faster than me! Steve could be—"
"Seren, honey, what are you talking about?" Liana pulled against Seren, trying to keep the young woman in her place.
"MOM, PLEASE!" Seren screamed, shocking Liana as she fell to her knees, begging to be listened to. "We need to — I need to — please…" She squeezed Liama's hands, forcing her mother to look at her pleading face. "I need to find him! Please help me! Please! I'll do anything, please!"
Whether they were from Earth or another world, it was clear that Liana had no idea what to do with Seren. She looked up and met Peggy's and Howard's gazes, silently asking them for help.
Peggy cleared her throat as she stepped forwards. "Um, my name is Agent Peggy Carter and, uh…I'd like to explain some things to you…if that's alright?"
Considering that her daughter was still crying her eyes out, Liana quickly agreed. "Yes, please…please do." It took her, Peggy and Howard to make Seren get back on her feet. After that, getting her to calm down was a whole other mission. Eventually, Seren's exhaustion caught up with her and she collapsed into a short sleep.
Liana was not going to take her eyes off her daughter anytime soon and so Peggy had to explain everything from beginning to end in Howard's lab while Seren sat and slept at a desk. Neither Peggy nor Howard knew what to make of Liana's silence after hearing everything that her daughter went through in her absence. It was clear, though, that like many of them there, Liana grew an instant hatred for HYDRA.
"They cut my daughter up?" Her hands balled into fists. Familiar power danced at her fingertips. "You said they're gone?"
Peggy nodded. "Uh, yes, we just wiped them off today, actually."
"Good," Liana said, glancing at her daughter still sleeping. "And so…this man…him and my daughter — they had a…a…relationship?"
"Sort…sort of?" Howard checked with Peggy to make sure he had that right. He never asked straight forward and he wasn't going to start there.
Peggy nodded at Liana. "Steve was the one who rescued her from HYDRA. He helped her trust us."
"And now he's…"
"Gone," Peggy confirmed the news with a sigh. "He brought down a plane filled with bombs before it could strike New York."
"New York?" There was an undeniable recognition in Liana's eyes when she glanced in their direction. Peggy nodded again. Liana ducked her head and slowly processed it all. Eventually, she drew in a breath. "Well, it seems like I have missed a lot in my daughter's life. I should be honest with you," she looked up again, "The Tesseract is an unpredictable thing. If this man went down with it…I hardly think that he would have survived."
Both Peggy and Howard lowered their heads. Yes, they knew the chances were low bit they were still crazy to believe that Steve would win against the odds. Still, Liana confirming it was just further proof of the opposite.
"And that being said, I'm going to need your help solidifying that idea in my daughter's head," Liana said, casting a grim glance in Seren's way. "Steve is dead and the best thing she can do is leave Earth with me."

Seren rested a lot in the days that followed. She'd exhausted herself between the fight and her grief. She heard a lot of commotion around her. The war was over. Finally, officially over. People were celebrating everywhere. Everywhere and everyone except for her. As much as Liana tried and tried to get her to leave right away, Seren refused. She just had no energy to make that big of a trip and, what's more, she had things she wanted to do first anyway. The morning she stepped into the lab, it was a chaos of cleaning up. Somehow, it made her feel worse. Things were ending, things were moving on.
Seren wasn't sure what she was doing, nor why she was even there. The act of floating was her best move in these moments.
Howard wasn't expecting to see her in the lab and when he did he walked over and gave her a big hug. Seren appreciated the gesture. He walked around his lab which was nearly cleared away and tried making small talk to keep her engaged.
"I'm heading back to New York with the rest," he said, eyeing Seren specifically, "I know Agent Carter is returning to London…"
Seren nodded. She knew that as well. Peggy had already sat her down to explain what was going to be happening with the SSR, going as far as extending an official place of employment for Seren if she wanted it. Seren refused. She had not forgotten where Zola was and although she wasn't going to fight over that — these days, it felt pointless getting justice when the one person that mattered was gone forever — she didn't want to be anywhere near the man. Peggy accepted it and didn't push any further on the matter, only stating that she would be there whenever Seren needed her.
"Can I…can I go to New York with you?"
The question initially caught Howard off guard but then slowly, he began to smile. "Of course. Would that be by plane or flying?"
Seren managed a half smile at his words. "The plane would be nice, thanks."
"You are welcome anytime," Howard said, bringing a hand on her shoulder. "I would also be open to having a working partner, if you're interested. There's no one else with your knowledge on this planet."
Seren chuckled lightly. "I'm actually not that smart, Howard. It just looks like it because I'm from a different planet."
"Nobody has your knowledge, Seren," Howard tapped the side of Seren's head. "Makes you one of a kind."
"Thanks, Howard," Seren nodded and lowered her head. "If I'm being honest, there's a reason I want to go to New York."
Howard hummed, drawing Seren's attention. "Wouldn't happen to be a certain bakery shop you're curious about?"
Seren flushed, nearly forgetting that a whole group of people heard Steve's last wishes for her. "That, yes," she nodded, "but I also want to find my father. He lives in New York and I want to see him."
"Oh, well, say no more," Howard clapped his hands together. "I can help you find him."
"I already did," Seren said, "Well, Steve did. He had the SSR track him down. He's in New York."
"I'll let you know when we leave," Howard said, "Of course your mother is also welcome to join."
"Mm…my mother…" Seren had yet to explain to Liana that she knew where her father was and, much more, who he was. She hadn't really spoken much to her mother, not when she spent her time either crying or sleeping.
There was a clearing of a throat and soon Peggy walked into the lab, carrying a box in her arms. Seren regarded her with a small nod. Assuming that Peggy had some things to discuss with Howard about the SSR, Seren excused herself to leave.
"Ah, wait Seren!" Peggy's call stopped the woman in her tracks. She looked back just as Peggy placed the box on an empty table. "I have a couple things you, uh, might want."
"Me? I doubt it…" Seren mumbled. There was nothing left for her…until she walked back.

It took Seren several breaths to be able to unlock the door and actually step inside the apartment. For a while, she just stood at the front of the apartment frozen to the ground.
It was darker than she remembered, colder. Her eyes landed on the couch — which seemed a lot shabbier than she remembered — and sucked in a shaky breath. She glanced at the kitchen and felt a whole new rush of despair seeing the dirty dishes they'd left on the counter. They were supposed to have come back and cleaned everything up to finally head out of there forever.
Her breath was shaky again. It felt worse than when she'd been cut open. She didn't even know that was possible. All her nightmares were rushing over her like waves crashing one after the other. Then she remembered all the good that she had been through since then and somehow it just broke her heart all over again. To have all that and lose it all in one go…
She didn't know how long she stood in her place, except that when she moved her legs were wobbling. She stumbled towards the couch and sat down.
For a long while, Seren sat by herself in the dark room, knees pulled up to her chest, head down. She had no concept of Time and had no desire to. She had no desire to do anything, not when it felt so pointless. She could have easily stayed in the dark apartment for the rest of her life if they let her…
But they wouldn't.
Some time later, Seren heard the door opening. She heard the footsteps, careful at first and then just slow as they approached her. In her darkest moments within HYDRA, Seren would remember the little things about her mother. She missed and cried for Liana during the moments she thought she would finally die. She would have done anything to get a hug from her mother back then, and now here Liana was and it wasn't doing anything for her.
Liana sighed after a while and pulled her arms from Seren. "At least look at me, honey."
Seren missed her mother's voice. She used to hear it a lot while she was imprisoned, using it as a coping mechanism. "How'd you find me?"
"Think I'm gonna lose you again?" Liana offered a smile that Seren didn't return. She gave up on the tactic. "Your new friends, they, um, they're kind. Humans — they're just like I remember."
"Not all of them," Seren said, finally picking her head up from her knees. She drew in a big breath. "But some of them…some of them are amazing. Were, anyways."
A brief silence fell over the two women. Liana watched as her daughter stared off into the distance, all life vanishing from her eyes.
"I wish I would have found you sooner," Liana said, dropping her head in shame. " Better yet I wish that I would have taken the assignment myself."
"No." Seren snapped back to the present and looked at her mother. "It was my mission and I failed it…just like I failed this one." Tears shined in her eyes as she looked around. "A few days ago, Steve lost his best friend Bucky. He was killed in action and Steve lamented how they had left this apartment together in the morning and by night, only Steve came back. I told him that we would get justice for Bucky…but all that happened is we left the apartment in the morning together…and only I came ba-ack." Seren sniffled until the tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, Seren." Liana leaned over and kissed Seren's head. "I've…I've been hearing things, talking to your friends. I've gathered what you didn't want to take." She motioned to the table in front of them and that was when Seren realized that her mother had quite literally grabbed all her things and put them in a box.
"No…" Seren started shaking her head. "I don't want anything from the SSR. Peggy, she tried to get me to look inside but…I don't want it, mom. It hurts too much knowing that's all that's left of this past year." It truly felt like it was just yesterday when she led Steve on a chase through the woods after knocking out their infirmary ward.
"I think it would hurt more to throw it away without even giving it a chance," Liana said expertly. "It hurts more to leave behind a world without a single memory you can hold onto." Seren met her mother's knowing gaze. "I got lucky with you, though." She reached over and tucked some of Seren's hair behind her ear. "All my memories are in you."
"But you still wish you had more…" Seren concluded, nodding to herself. "You know…I don't even have a picture of him. I'm sure there's videos but…not a picture. And I'm not going back to the SSR to look for one."
"Course not, that's why you have your mother," Liana flashed a smile. She reached inside the box and pulled out a manila folder. "I did peek, sorry…"
Seren only found the energy to smile very little but Liana would take it. She handed Seren the folder for her to look through. It was titled 'Classified - Captain America' and there was a bright red stamp over it with the word 'inactive'.
Seren gulped. She opened the folder and let out a breathy chuckle. The first thing she saw was a picture of Steve, but it didn't look much like the man she knew, at least not initially. "Steve told me all about the, um, the experiment they did on him. Made him bigger, basically. He used to look like this…but it's still the same face…same spirit…and heart."
Liana hummed and leaned over Seren's shoulder. "Good looking," she said, making Seren actually chuckle that time.
"Yeah," she nodded. "Very." She unclipped the picture off the profile. She wasn't interested in any of the information, just the picture. "You would have liked him, mom. He was everything I could have wanted. From the day we met, he was very different. And honest. I don't think I've ever met someone who was always so honest. He was a bit naive, don't get me wrong, but just the right amount."
"All the good ones usually are," Liana said, smiling nostalgically.
"I told him about me, all of me…" Seren looked up just as Liana's smile dropped. "He knew who I really was…and he loved it. He loved me. The thing that makes me different didn't ruin it. He loved me."
"That was brave of you for telling him," Liana said, touching Seren's arm. "I'm glad he took it well. I know that it's been a hard topic ever since you can remember. You're right. I would have liked him."
Seren swallowed hard, closing the folder in her hands and keeping Steve's picture on top. "Steve found him, mom."
"Hmm?"
"He found dad. He found Brooks."
Liana's hand fell from Seren's arm. Seren grew more nervous as the silence stretched.
"He's in New York. Um, he had the SSR look for him and they found him." Seren glanced at her mother with new hope in her eyes. "I want to go to New York."
"Seren, that's—"
"Please," Seren shifted on the couch to face her mother, "I lost Steve, I lost the plans we had. Before he, uh, before he died…he told me that I should go meet my dad. We can go together. Howard says he'll take us both."
"Seren, I don't think that's a good idea, honey…" Liana rose from the couch, visibly growing nervous.
"You said that if he met me he would love me!" Seren argued, frowning as Liana refused to meet her eye. "You said he knew everything about us—"
"I know, I know!"
"Then?" Seren stood up from the couch as well, forcing Liana to look at her. "Am I not in my right to go see him?"
"Yes, yes, of course you are but…" Liana laughed shakily, "Maybe I'm the one who's nervous about seeing him again! This was years ago and…he could have a family now and…"
"He does," Seren nodded, "He has a son and a daughter, but his wife died. He's widowed."
"That's terrible," Liana said, bringing a hand on her chest. "Is he…was he…okay?"
Seren smiled at her mother. "I'm assuming he is now. You see? We have to go see him. At the very least, I have to go to Brooklyn."
"Brooklyn?" Liana sighed. "Let me guess—"
"Steve was from there. Mom, I have to go, please?" Seren held one of her mother's hands, squeezing it tight. "Please, I need to go. If-if I ever want to feel some kind of peace, I need to go there."
Liana knew there was no way in hell she would be able to say 'no' to Seren, not when she'd gone through so much and she hadn't been there to stop it. "Okay," Liana replied, "But you and I together, alright? I'm not letting go of you again."
Seren jumped into her mother's arms, hugging her tight. "Thank you, thank you…" She sniffled.

With tearful goodbyes, Seren left the SSR with Howard and her mother. She had nothing else to do there. It took a lot to convince Liana to come with her without tearing through headquarters searching for Arnim Zola though. As Seren once warned, Liana wanted retribution for what was done. Perhaps if things had worked out in their favor, Seren would have gone through with her word and taken Zola for justice. But things hadn't worked out. Things had gone very differently than planned and at the end of the day, all Seren wanted to do was leave the pain behind and that included the SSR and HYDRA anything related to it. That included the infamous Tesseract.
Seren told Liana that the damn cube had disappeared with Steve in the ocean and she was not interested in bringing it back. If the Asgardians wanted it, they could come find it themselves. She was done taking assignments. Liana didn't argue that either. Besides, once she stepped on New York soil and found a particular bakery down in Brooklyn, she felt way more content. She got a familiar whiff in the air the closer she got to the counter. A nice older lady welcomed her and asked her what she would like.
Seren smiled nervously. "I wanted…do you have any, um, cinnamon rolls today?"
The older woman smiled back. "Of course! All fresh! You'll see! I don't make one foul thing in this bakery!"
Seren chuckled as the woman went to cut her a slice. "I know, my, um…someone special told me about this place. Maybe you knew him?"
"I know everyone here," the woman said as she returned to the counter.
"Actually, I think you knew him and his friend — Steve and Bucky? They grew up here." Seren felt something light in her heart seeing the way the woman's face brightened.
"Yes, yes! Of course! Oh, good boys," the woman nodded. "James, he would run in here and try to pull one over me to get an extra slice. Steve, poor boy, he'd apologize and then they would do it all over again the next day."
Seren laughed softly. "Really? I thought Steve was more of the troublemaker."
The woman raised her brows inquisitively. Seren took the cinnamon roll she ordered and put the money on the counter.
"If you have time, I would like to hear more about them," she then said. "And afterwards, if you would be so kind as to point me in the direction of Bucky's home and the cemetery? I'd like to speak with Bucky's parents. Then go leave flowers on Steve's mother's plot?" She'd gotten that little bit of information through Howard and Peggy. She wanted to make sure she took care of everything Steve left behind.
"A…ha…?" The woman was dumbfounded as Seren walked to the table closest to the window and sat down with her cinnamon roll. She watched the brunette eat by herself, watching through the window the people who walked by, every now and then some kids running as they played. In the end, the woman walked over to the table, silently getting Seren's attention and sat down with her.
Seren smiled.
"How long do you have?" the woman asked her.
"All afternoon. My mother is, um, speaking with my father. We thought it best if we did it that way." Seren licked her lips nervously. "Hopefully, they'll both come get me. I haven't met him yet, you see. But Steve told me this place was amazing and that I should come here. He was going to bring me…"
The woman nodded, now beginning to understand what was happening. "Ah, I see."
Seren's smile waned slightly as she looked down at her half eaten cinnamon roll.
"He was a really good boy," the woman started, her words lifting Seren's gaze. "He used to be smaller, did you know that?"
"I did," Seren chuckled. "I also heard he used to get sick a lot…"
"Oh, did he ever!" the woman let out a dramatic sigh that brought out another laugh from Seren. "The times that he gave Sarah a scare!" She began to tell Seren about the jumpscares Steve was responsible for, and she clung to every single word.
And much later, quite close to the closing time, the entrance doors opened with a small ding.
Seren's eyes flickered to the doors and saw her mother walking in first. For a moment, Seren's stomach twisted as Liana walked in on her own. He didn't want to see me, was Seren's first thought. All the good stuff that she had hoped for — all the other good stuff anyways — was about to crumble as well.
But just as the thoughts started creeping up on her, the doors opened again and in came a familiar tall man with bright green eyes — she saw those eyes every single time she looked at her reflection in the mirror.
She stood up from her seat, and met Brooks' gaze. He looked at her with a growing smile and an unbelievable expression, like she was something he had only heard of. And perhaps he had.
Liana whispered something in Brooks' ear and the smile on his face turned into a full fledged grin. "She's so big…" Seren heard him say and saw the fondness in his eyes just for her.
She swallowed hard and stepped towards them. She'd only taken three steps when Brooks rushed towards her and hugged her as tight as he could. Stunned, it took Seren several seconds to realize what was happening and once it dawned on her, she hugged him back and broke into tears.

77 years later.
There was supposed to have been a break. A real break, but all Steve ever saw was a pause before the next battle. Even when this one was lost, somehow there was still a battle within. One moment, their pager had stopped transmitting their signal and the next, they had come face to face with an unknown blonde woman hellbent on getting answers by any means necessary.
"Hey, hey, hey, HEY!" Steve managed to cut in between the blonde woman and Natasha before they went head to head with each other.
Banner was on the other side, trying to pull Natasha back with him while Rhodey tried pulling on the blonde woman's arm in vain. The moment she felt his hand around her arm, she shoved him back. Steve only just caught him before he fell and with his assisting tech around his legs, it would not bode well to have another injury.
"Alright everyone ENOUGH!" Steve yelled over the entire room, freezing the group in their tracks.
The blonde woman shook off Banner's hand and stepped towards Steve, repeating her question again. "Where's Fury?"
"Hard topic to answer," Steve replied in the same cold tone. "But it'd be a lot easier if you stopped the hostility."
The woman scowled at him and the others. "That" — she pointed back at the pager — "is the pager I gave to Fury for emergencies. It went off all of a sudden and we raced back here and he's not here. So," she strode up to Steve, leaving them face to face, "where is he?"
Steve didn't appreciate the faint accusation in her voice. He didn't understand why this woman was on the receiving end of that pager except that Fury had to have a reason. Plus, it was their only other option right now. If it wasn't the pager, then they had nothing left to fight against Thanos. Bearing that in mind, he relaxed his voice and started again.
"Something's happened to Fury and we found this pager with no idea who was on the other side," he explained slowly, "We didn't know it was you."
"Who are you?" Natasha beat him to the punch.
The woman flipped her head back, glaring at Natasha. "I'm Carol Danvers, who the hell are you?"
"Hey," Steve called and got her attention again. "We're on the same side."
"Mm, I don't know you," Carol countered. "So who the hell are you?" she punctured her words sharply.
"Fair enough," Steve nodded, "We are on the same side. My name's St—"
"Steve?"
Steve froze in his spot. This wouldn't be the first time he imagined that sweet voice calling to him and during these hard times, it wouldn't be surprising if he imagined it to ease his nerves. But this time it was different. This time, Carol Danvers in front of him looked around him, her lips curling into a frown as she muttered 'you were supposed to do a reconnaissance'. If she spoke to the voice, then the voice was real and not in his head like it had been for years.
But Carol's partner seemed to have ignored it in favor of walking a few steps, at least that's what Steve heard before he finally turned around and got the wind knocked out of him. She couldn't be a figment of his imagination this time, not if someone else had acknowledged her presence…
"Seren?"

steve rogers - a brief (nonsensical) character study/analysis
so i rewatched all the mcu movies with steve roger in them using this lovely youtube video. spoilers for the entire things! consider this your warning.
here's my takeaways in no particular order:
he still wears the same clothing style he wore pre-ice. often button ups, work boots, plain denim jeans, sometimes a leather jacket (often brown). later on in the mcu he started wearing plaid flannels which is funny to me because he does not give a SHIT about modern fashion. give him his old man clothes please and ty. adorable.
marvel did not give the man much character development. they said he's going to go through war and hell and death and fuckery of emotions. sure he's going to learn how to move on but that's off screen and don't really expect much change fuckers. this fucking pisses me off if you can't tell. he's such a long-time character with so many areas where he could be developed and marvel just said fuck that he's an "old man and a soldier with some funny moments" and that's all you're getting.
also he had 5 minutes MAX of screentime in infinity wars :(((( fucking hate that give my man justice
he's so funny????? and so fucking sassy???? like how did I not know this???? love the guy
he broods a ton when he's sad and cracks jokes to cheer others up when they're sad. very sweet but I feel like that marvel could have expanded on this in some way.
he's also very acrobatic which is somehow surprising to me but also at the same time it makes sense??? idk man but you do your flips bbg
also love the way they planned his fights. they really use his full body. reminds me of old greek and roman statues with the flexing muscles. (those are my favorites statues if you can't tell) it's satisfying to watch and I want to draw it or make a statue of him now tyvm.
in endgame tony started talking about his ass which sparked an entertaining side tangent. like you really didn't need to???? but I'll take it. i forgot that steve called HIS OWN ass the "ass of America." I was in and still am in shock from this whole situation.
when he met his other self (or smth I don't remember) in endgame one of the last things he said to other steve was "bucky is alive" (see points below). interesting how seeing the compass with peggy didn't phase other steve much.... also that fight is fucking ridiculous 1000/10
he says so much romantic/gay shit about bucky??? like "even when I had nothing I had bucky." very angsty and homoerotic I love it
the ending with peggy and him being old is plotted so shittily. literal garbage. i wouldn't have minded him being with peggy at all (love her sm btw don't mistake this for me hating her) if they had done it right and given cap a plausible reason and justification for him staying. sure, he misses her. sure, visiting her. but wouldn't staying with her fuck up everything??? literally everything????? like the avengers wouldn't exist everything????????? FUCK that ending.
not exactly fully cap/steve but chris evan's shoulder to waist ratio is absolutely delectable. love that they highlight that with the suits designs.
also what the fuck was infinity wars when he had a fucking beard and longer hair??? loved it but it kind of came out of left field. plus he looked a little silly fighting with the long hair bc it kept getting in his face. you would've thought that he would wear a helmet during that fight but Not Today ig...
last point I promise. but the romance with sharon carter (i forgot her name but i think that's it) was GROSS. whats her face is peggy's GRANDDAUGHTER. so now that he's too old for peggy he had to go for her granddaughter?????? YUCK. especially so because he went to peggy ANYWAYS in the mcu. to the comic writers and marvel: stop. that's fucking gross and quite honestly unneeded.
kind of a serious man with some unexpected twists, like the humor. and that was just the MOVIES. fucking hate some parts of the comics. (why are there so many universes ughhhhh) love steve though what an interesting fellow. might add on more thoughts later if i remember/want to.

Rules: Post 10 of your favorite movies and tag 10 people.
10) Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
there is something so delightful about this movie. it’s fun, it’s camp, and i will never say no to jack black shenanigans and karen gillan being a BAMF. also bethany is transmasc send tweet
9) Ant-Man and the Wasp
i will fight tooth and nail about the fact that the ant-man movies are the best movies from the mcu. if there is any mcu movie i rewatch and don’t scrub through, it’s this one.
8) Girl VS Monster
this movie is pure art. diemata’s “nothing’s gonna stop me now” is a cultural reset for me. also the skylar/ryan/myra throuple just about being canon when they sing “had me @ hello” together at the end of the movie??? we love to see poly rep
7) Knives Out
this movie is just art. i love a good murder mystery and this is great with a rewatch. i think glass onion was really great too but this one in particular will hold a special place in my heart.
6) Lovestruck
i’m SO mad that they moved this to hulu premium because it used to be on the freeform app. but basically it’s a movie musical where a woman takes a de-aging potion and tries to get her daughter’s husband to cheat on her daughter with her now young self. it’s got drew seely and chelsea kane singing “dj got us fallin’ in love” and i want to perform this dance at my wedding. also “how can i remember to forget” is SUCH a good ballad
5) Enchanted
who doesn’t love enchanted? it’s my favorite disney movie and though the sequel is mid, the original will ALWAYS be the best. the “so close” scene where robert starts singing UGH my heart.
4) Crazy Rich Asians
this is one of those movies that i find myself rewatching a lot with my family specifically. we can quote some scenes verbatim. we just love this movie. it’s a delight.
3) Room
this is a big change in tone but i just love this movie. i stan brie larson. stream “finally out of p.e.” that album slaps. but yeah it’s just heartbreaking and it’s always great on the rewatch and jacob tremblay is so good and so is brie larson and i just love it. it hurts me but in the best way possible.
2) Free Guy
i can’t articulate how much i love this movie. ryan reynolds. jodie corner. joe keery. the guy who plays rajit in basmati blues. it’s so funny and it’s one that i will never get sick of and it just brings me so much joy.
1) I Kissed A Vampire
this movie is awful. it’s terrible. it’s near unwatchable. but it is my Favorite Movie. i know so much of it by heart. i know the choreography. i know every lyric of every song. i bought the deluxe album on apple music. i’ve watched it with every person who lets me subject them to this awful movie. i’ve had friendships threatened because of this movie. i know way too much about this movie and the actors in it. i’ve seen the original web series just as much. if you haven’t watched the movie and love bad movies, watch it. it’s got drew seeley as an angsty vampire who is SO politically incorrect named trey sylvania. it’s got lucas grabeel (ryan from high school musical) as the lead. and it’s got the 17 year old daughter of the producer playing the main female love interest and her performace is absolutely grueling and i love her so much. apparently she works with snakes now??? go you queen.

Chapter 1: An Antique
summary: Steve visits you after the invasion of New York
warnings: none
notes: Reader is Hispanic and an Avenger with magnetic abilities who teamed up with Steve and the others to stop the alien invasion in New York. This series will follow through most of the MCU. Part 1 is all fluff!!
Tumblr media
Graduation. After all that happened in New York, you had almost forgotten, and, though the world was forever changed, colleges in Boston were not. Finals continued as scheduled. Despite not having had a chance to study between waves of alien attacks, you managed, finishing with a high enough GPA to graduate with honors. Now, all you had to do was figure out what came next.       “I thought you had a job offer,” your sister asks.       “Maria, I nearly died and aliens came to earth from a portal in the sky! Things have changed,” you explain. She is helping you pack, handing you folded clothes to stick in a box or in the donation bin. The room around you slowly becomes more bare: photos and artwork unpinned from the wall, books removed from their shelf, and a nearly empty closet. All the color you had put into the dorm room was replaced by unlabeled brown boxes, the last of which sat atop the empty bed, waiting to be closed.       “I still can’t believe you went to New York without me, before finals no less. That’s not like the big sister I know and love,” she teases. She holds one of your favorite shirts in her hands, measuring it up against herself, and you quickly snatch it away.       “What? Don’t you know that your sister is a cocky genius? I knew finals were going to be a breeze.” The lie comes easily, just as the ones you had told your family before.
What are you doing in New York, mija? They had asked. Are you okay?       It was a spontaneous trip, mama, with friends. I’m fine, I promise.       You didn’t try to get involved did you? You know I don’t like you fighting with your… condition.       No, mama. I promise.
“That’s true, you are cocky. Still, next time you want to take a trip to the big city, take me with you. Please?” she begs with puppy dog eyes and a pout that stopped being cute when she stopped being six.       “I will, Mia,” you agree with a roll of your eyes, “Though, there’s not much of a city left.”       “Well Brooklyn is still standing, if you ever want a tour,” comes a voice from behind you. Maria whips around. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you,” he says, extending his hand for her to take. “My name is Steve, I’m, uh-”       “He’s a friend,” you quickly say. A little too quickly, but Maria’s smirk tells you that she’s gotten the wrong impression and hasn’t quite caught your lie. Nor has she realized that she is shaking Captain America’s hand.       Steve let’s go of her hand and sticks it in his pocket. His face gives away the lie entirely as he catches up to it. He takes in a quick breath, eyes wide in realization before he says, “Right, friends. We’re friends.”       “Okaaaaay,” Maria says, and, after a moment of you glaring at her, she adds, “I guess I’ll just go outside then.” She steps around the boxes and passes by Steve in the doorway. “It was nice to meet you, Steve.” Before she closes the dorm suite door, you hear her mumble, “If I had known guys at college would be this hot, I’d have tried harder on my SATs.”       You stifle a laugh and Steve looks down, shaking his head with a smile. When the two of you look up at each other, there is only silence. In the light streaming in from your window, he looks beautiful: a sharp jaw and cheekbones, blond hair reflecting the sun, and his blue eyes shining. You blush and look away quickly when you realize you’ve been staring too long, but you think, he was staring too.       “Do you need any help?” he asks, stepping further into your old room. “I can start carrying boxes down.”       “No, that’s okay,” you reply and go back to folding and packing your last box. “I’ve got an army of cousins, and aunts, and uncles coming to help load everything up in the truck.”       “Moving back home?” He asks.       “Not exactly,” you say with a breathy laugh. “I’m moving to D.C. I took a risk, signed a lease. I don’t have a job yet, but I’m hoping one of the many federal agencies will look past my psych records and hire me.”       “They’d be idiots not to,” he says. You look back at him, this time, you successfully avoid completely staring at him. He smiles at you, and you notice for the first time that he’s hiding something behind his back. You give him a quizzical look, and he moves his right hand into view. In it is a small gold box with a red bow on top. “I got you something. A graduation gift.”       He hands you the box, the lid slides off easily when you pull on it. The thin piece of metal shines in the light of the afternoon sun streaming through your window.       “This is- wow- this is beautiful, Steve,” you stutter out. “Thank you. Would you mind…?” You hold out your left hand and the box so that Steve can grab the gold chain and hook it around your wrist. He steps even closer to you, his whole presence taking up all of your senses and you wonder if he can hear your heart beat as it picks up its pace.       He looks down at you once he’s finished clipping the antique bracelet onto you, but he doesn’t let your arm go, and you don’t move away. For a moment that feels much longer than the few seconds that it is, the two of you stand there, looking into each other’s eyes with your hand in his.       Then Maria rushes back in and the two of you jump apart.       “Sorry to interrupt,” she says, and she looks genuinely sorry. “Just thought you’d like to know that the whole family is downstairs waiting.”       “Right,” you say, remembering where you were and what you were doing. “Thanks, Maria.”       “I should get going,” Steve says, and turns to walk out the door.       “Thank you, again, for coming by and for the gift,” you call out after him.       He gives a simple nod, then says, “When you get to D.C., look me up in the yellow pages.” He gives you one more smile, says goodbye to your sister, then he’s out the door.       “You’ve been holding out on all of the details,” Maria immediately begins to pester you, but you ignore her, opting instead to fiddle with your new bracelet. —       Maria Hill makes an appearance soon after your move to D.C. You’d gone to your third interview for another agency that was just as unsuccessful as the last and were nursing a drink at the nearest bar, when Agent Hill sits down next to you.       She speaks before you can even ask why she’s there.       “You will report to the Triskelion, 33rd floor, on Monday at 8am,” she says, sliding a Shield ID badge across the bar. “Your paperwork is already in your apartment. Don’t be late.”       Maria Hill is out the door before you can thank her. Your first call is Steve.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
An excellent follow-up to a perfect film.
Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse is my favorite Spider-Man movie. Despite growing up with the Tobey Maguire films, enjoying the fun but flawed Garfield movies, and watching the MCU with their vastly different take from Holland's movies, I hold the sentiment that Into the Spiderverse remains the best.
There's an argument to be made with many of the Spider-Men films on which is the best. Tobey Maguire's first Spider-Man has one of the best on-screen origin stories for a superhero with one of the best supervillain performances: Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin. Tobey Maguire's second film has stirring performances and iconic action setpieces. And No Way Home rounds out some character arcs years in the making while acting as a grand epic for all Spider-Man fans of all ages. I love all those movies, plus most of the unmentioned others. But Into The Spiderverse is perfect or damn well near. It's a champion of animation, with likable, memorable characters, menacing villains, comedic lines, and superb fight scenes... it practically does no wrong.
So as a sequel, Across the Spider-Verse had some big shoes to fill, and my god, it did.
Across the Spider-Verse takes place roughly a year after the events of Into the Spider-Verse. Miles Morales has some experience as Spider-Man under his belt, but it doesn't take long for our favorite teen to get overwhelmed. Balancing being a school student, a son, and a superhero, is a struggle for our young protagonist. Plus, we see how much he dearly misses his Spider friends from across the multiverse, especially Gwen.
There's an attempt to balance out everything and get Gwen back into his life, and that all goes as well as you expect.
There's not much to say about this film that hasn't been said by countless others. Miles's character arc here, as he strives for so much, is amazing. Miles cares so deeply for his friends and family that he's even more relatable than before as he tries desperately to have it all. The focus on Gwen is sensational, starting off with her and the conflict she has with her father as chief of police. It's almost as much as her movie as it is Miles. Almost.
The antagonists this time around, The Spot and Miguel O'Hara, are incredible foils to our Spider-Man. The Spot's presentation as a loser is incredibly comedic until realizing his backstory and just how terrifying his power can be if properly honed. In a movie booming with color in every frame, he sticks out so clearly that it's hard to take your eyes off him in each scene he lies. By his final scene, the transformation into a monster leaves the audience eager to see the chaos he may or may not reap. Meanwhile, Miguel is a little shit, and I am here for it. His backstory is more tragic than the Spot's, and it's understandable why he cares so much about protecting the canon. The way this grown man beefs so hard with a teenager, tracking him down relentlessly and slamming him against a moving train during the most batshit insane visual setpiece in the film, is ludicrous.
Newer side characters introduced are also a lot of fun. While I prefer the company of Spider Noir, Spider-Ham, and Peni Parker, Hobie and Pavitr are just as likable and endearing. Pavitr has an innocence to him that is adorable, and Hobie's lack of consistency and disrespect at higher power is just great. Hobie's art style, in general, is just magnificent.
There are just not many gripes to be had with this film. There's a top-tier cast of characters, fight scenes that perhaps surpass the first film, animation that is still top tier, still incredibly funny, decent arcs established or continued that is set to end in the final film of the trilogy...and yet I still prefer Into the Spiderverse over this?
But like...only by a little bit.
Everyone that says this is better than Into The Spiderverse is so valid, and I understand where they come from. But for me, I still prefer the first one. And it comes down to one reason: the runtime. Into The Spider-Verse is a little under 2 hours, and Across is about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Despite being longer, I feel like Across could have benefitted from just a little bit more time. I feel like we don't spend enough time with every character besides Gwen and Miles. Everyone could have been just a tad bit stronger if they were on screen for just a little bit more time. There was almost a scene of The Spot being made fun of by villains in a bar and another where he returns to the bar and gets revenge on the villains. Not only would the former scene establish him more as a loser, but the latter would emphasize how much more of a problem he was and give the viewer a small taste of the reckoning the next movie will surely bring. Similarly, I would've liked more time to understand Miguel as a character, or Hobie, Peter B. Parker, or even somehow fit in Spider Noir and the others from Into. Again, except for Miles and Gwen, I think every other character is just a tad bit short of the screen time they deserve.
However, I have no issue like that with Into The Spiderverse. It's perfectly paced.
The runtime is enough to maybe bring it down just a little bit for me, but the movie is such an achievement, I am looking to cop this soon once it comes to blu ray. This is the kind of movie that must be watched frame by frame to appreciate the thousands of details put into it. I am patiently waiting for the third movie, and hope it surpasses both masterpieces presented. 4.5/5.

I realized this is JLaw‘s first official comedy – “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Joy” are each a dramedy. “Don’t Look Up” is funny, but its genre would be cautionary/Scifi. Lawrence was the comic relief in “American Hustle”, but again, a satire, not a broad comedy.  I’m glad she finally found herself here.

The Blackening’s got the feel of Bodies Bodies Bodies, just not as clever.  You can see the twist ending coming from a mile away. But as someone whose black card is always in threat of being revoked, due to having grown up on a constant diet of corny, white fare; I liked the irony of a board game of actual black cards, where each character has to answer culturally black trivia in order to stay alive!  And yup, if I were playing, my black card would once again have been in jeopardy, cause for a number of the questions, I’d have been about as much help as I’d be in an escape room requiring math.
Tumblr media
Overall I enjoyed the film and thought this fresh take on the Flashpoint event was creative. Just not as creative as the 2013 film, which still had meta-humans and heroes, with each of them in different roles than what they are in the traditional DC’s Earth-Prime version. For instance, Bruce Wayne was killed in the alley that famous night instead of his parents; turning his father into Batman and his mother into the Joker. Superman is captured and nowhere to be found. Cyborg is a resistance leader, giving America a fighting chance within a war between Aquaman’s Atlanteans and Wonder Woman’s Amazonians. Aquaman cheated on his wife Mera with Diana and it led to this major war.

Vibrant all the way around, story, visuals, characters! Although, I’ll admit, I got a little sleepy a few moments before we meet the super cool Spider-man named Hobie Brown, aka Spider-Punk voiced by Daniel Kaluuya, but that could have been due to the heaping portion of Chinese food I ate at the beginning of the movie. This Spider-Punk was my favorite spidey. Kauuya says he: put a lot of emphasis on what matters to the fans when it came to finding his superhero’s voice, so much so that when he first took on the role of Spider-Punk he listened to fan-made playlists dedicated to the character to understand how they saw him rather than choose to base him on any punk rock icons of the past.

Me and my sister came out of Disney’s Live Action The Little Mermaid smiling from ear to ear feeling as though it managed to capture and hold true to everything we loved about the animated original and at the same time, embracing the world of today with beautiful diversity. But then I read The New York Times review by Wesley Morris and he just makes me feel stupid for enjoying the movie. I suppose he has some salient points like “This new flesh-and-blood version is about a girl who’d like to withdraw her color from the family rainbow and sail off into “uncharted waters” with her white prince.” Also, although I loved Halle Bailey’s interpretation of Ariel, his review now makes me question, does she imbue varied enough facial expressions while mute?
Tumblr media
The Mother explores themes of family, redemption and identity, as Lopez’s character (with no name) struggles to reconcile her past and present. It’s not a groundbreaking or original movie by any means. It borrows heavily from other action movies like “Taken”, “Salt” and “Atomic Blonde”. The plot is predictable, the villains are one-dimensional and the moments of warmth aren’t very moving. But it’s entertaining, and it’s JLo, so stream it!

I definitely feel GOTG3 has stronger beats than Ant-man Quantumania, but it’s still a little long and lacking a certain spark had by the prior 2 movies of this MCU franchise. I think we need to go back to keeping the films just under 2 hours. Infinity War and End Game each needed to be nearly 3 hours because of so many characters and major story arcs, but with these sequels, no matter how beloved the characters, there’s not enough to fill them. I love superhero movies and particularly the MCU, but lately I can always feel the point in which they should be wrapping up, yet there’s 40-45 minutes still to go.

Black widow suits: Infinity War
As my moots may already know I LOVE the infinity war suit. I love everything about it so I’ll be talking about some things that really stood out to me cause if I have to name everything that’s great about this suit I might as well be writing a novel so let’s get into it.
Tumblr media
 1. The Vest
Of course first and foremost I have to talk about the Vest. Yes I wrote that with a capital V because it’s just that iconic. Of course we learned where it came from in Black Widow and we’ll be seeing it again is Thunderbolts. I love the emotional significance of this piece. The relationship and bond between Nat and Yelena is one of my favorite things in the MCU so it’s just really important to me. The Vest looks so good on Nat. The color matches her eyes and skin tone and it compliments her figure so well. And of course, it has so many pockets (technically it only has two but that’s still more then she’s used to so that’s a win)!! Idk it’s so perfect I’m obsessed with it. Also the double zipper doesn’t hurt.
Tumblr media
 2. Fitting
Something else I really love about this suit is that it isn’t as tight as the others. If you look at her hip and elbows in the first picture and her butt in the second you can see that it’s a little loose. It looks way better than the tight suits in my opinion and it looks like she can actually move.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
  3. Protective padding
Wha? What is that?? Natasha Romanoff gets armor?? In this economy? All bodyparts that can easily get hit (knees, elbows and shoulders) are all protected. It’s the first time we really see this in a Black Widow suit. I’m so glad they finally realized that Natasha can also get hurt and is more exposed than the others. She needs this and she needed it a long time ago. I also love the way they added it to the suit. Her elbow and shoulder guards all look like they can come off. She can take them off while traveling or stuff and put them on when the fight starts. It’s practical and it looks cool as fuck not gonna lie.
4. Function
I think my favorite thing about this suit is how practical it is. Every clasp, belt pocket and loop is necessary and functional while still looking good. Something I really dislike about a lot of the other black widow suits is that it just has so much unnecessary stuff. It just adds extra weight and it usually doesn’t really look good but with this suit it all makes sense and it looks hot so there’s that.
5. Material
Look at those pictures again. The fabric looks like it breathes, like it stretches and doesn’t stick to your body. She can actually move and be comfortable instead of having chafing thighs and sticky armpits and being scared her boob is going to pop out at any giving moment. It could still happen but the odds seem a little less likely and I’m not complaining.
6. Weapons
Look at how much stuff she has with her!! She has those fighting stick thingies from the red room and other stick shaped things and guns and her widow bites and even fancier widow bites!! The woman can actually protect herself now!! She gets a little more than just a glock and some confidence to fight aliens with!
All and all I just love it a lot, it’s practical, it’s sexy it has great colors and it’s a great fit. It’s just perfect.

While the whole 'DCEU' thing continues to be a completely nonsensical disaster (not just most of the movies, but also the decision to 'reboot' while keeping some actors around and replacing others, and the non-DCEU movies that are being released concurrently with other actors playing the same role), there have been some fun times to be had. Not The Flash, maybe (though I guess it did have its moments), but going back to like Wonder Woman and Shazam and Aquaman and Snyder Cut. It has, though, been a while.
And now they bring us Blue Beetle - their first foray outside their main cast of characters (well, maybe second if you want to count Shazam/Black Adam as outside that 'main cast'). I mean, sure, we saw Martian Manhunter, ever so briefly, in the Snyder Cut (also some artistic glimpses at Green Lantern, though he might be more of a 'main cast' in reality), but the DCEU finally decided to go beyond their initial group - much like the MCU did with GotG and Ant-Man after the first Avengers movie - and bring us Blue Beetle. As someone who doesn't know much of anything about the DC comics or superheros in general, I knew absolutely nothing about Blue Beetle outside of the trailers for this movie - but it is a superhero movie, so I was definitely going to watch it.
And, honestly - this movie was a lot of fun. The focus on family, and some of the comments about the reality of the world right now, were great to see, and moving - it almost felt like Black Panther (not as good as that, but similar sort of vibes about culture and family and the world). It is undoubtedly a superhero movie - as seen with the climax battle (I know he is the superhero, but his sister having that glove and yet just standing in the background with a shield for most of that fight seems like a wasted opportunity to get her slightly more involved), and of course his suit, and the baddie that is clearly trying to take over the world (or well, that part of the city, aided by the attempts to create an unstoppable weaponry/force) - but still, a lot of the movie spends its time focusing on family and the relationship between them all. The scene with his dad is super sad. And George Lopez as the uncle is hilarious.
The scientist character finally standing up for himself was pretty cool to see though - even if it didn't last very long.
The scarab - it almost feels a bit like the answer to the Venom sort of character, but with much less of a personality (in the movie, at least), maybe because the focus is on him and the family. Maybe in the sequel, there will be more of the scarab being it's own thing.
It seems that this movie is part of the new DCEU, which is good - because I really enjoyed these characters and would love to see what's next. Especially with that mid-credits scene - I'm not sure if the man is lost in another time or another world or another universe (I hope it is not this one - DC is not ready to be multiverse jumping yet; hell, I'm not even sure, Spider-Man aside, that the MCU is ready to deal with that) - but I would love to see Blue Beetle and team go out and find him.
I adored this cast (and, on top of the hilarious/good acting from everyone, Bruna Marquezine is an absolute stunner!) and absolutely adored the focus on family. As the MCU continues to struggle with every moving seemingly feeling the need to be 'bigger' than the previous, it is nice to see a story that sticks close to home and isn't directly about saving the world from some 'take over the world' villain (I mean, indirectly, that is probably the goal, but at least initially it seems to be just about the city itself).
I think this is one of my favorite movies of the year, though superhero-wise, it's probably still behind Spider-Verse and GotG3 - because both those movies come with a lot of background love/excitement and are just amazingly stunning movies, whilst Blue Beetle is someone I'd never heard of before this movie - but it still tops out over like Quantumania (which I think really flubbed a wonderful opportunity to throw a wrench into things with the ending, given that they've already opened up the whole multiverse), The Flash (which flubbed almost everything, and in typical DCEU fashion, ruined everything by showing us everything in the trailer), and Fury of the Gods (which just felt a bit underwhelming).
I really do hope we see more of this group. And more movies with this focus on family and relationships, even as the superhero themes play in the forefront.

||Stolen Kisses, Stolen Moments|| Part One
Summary: Five times Rachel managed to annoy a certain Captain. And the one time she didn’t and he actually questioned her about it.
Pairing: Steve x RachelOC (MCU)
Rating || Genre || Warnings: T+ Romance. No warnings. Just a few curse words.
A/N: I felt like writing an annoyed Steve Rogers so here you are! This is kind of a sequel to my other fic Kiss It Away, but you don’t have to read that to understand this one. Also I am now taking requests so please go ahead and send me stuff. You can find my rules here.
Tumblr media
As the self-proclaimed Mistress of Shadow, Rachel had the tendency to pop up anywhere and everywhere with zero warning. More then once she had prompted many a seasoned SHIELD Agents to draw their weapons on her. A few times she had come close to being attacked by her team members. But that was on her, she admitted so herself. One did not sneak up on a person whose first instinct was to fight. It didn’t take long for the rest of the Avengers to be used to her antics. It was the norm for them now, to see Rachel suddenly materializing out of thin air from the shadows.
At first she had done it on purpose, always enjoying how they would jump out of their skin and take on a fighting stance. Though once they got used to it, it became a little boring for her. She rarely sneaked up on anyone anymore.
Except for a certain star-spangled man with a plan.
Oh he wasn’t easily startled, but her habit did annoy. And if there was one thing Rachel lived for, it was annoying someone else just for the entertainment of it. It had become a favorite past time of hers. Popping up out of nowhere and generally being a nuisance for the Captain.
Though the kissing part came later.
She had wanted to take it one step further. And stealing quick pecks here and there was something she knew would annoy the man even more. There was just something appealing about the way he glared at her. She’d never been one to play it safe.
Not even when it came to the leader of the Avengers.
The first time she stole a kiss was late at night.
They had been briefed about their mission and were sent to bed after a routine check up. Rogers had stayed behind to go over the more finer details with Fury. It was late once they finished, and Rachel had been feeling a little peckish and decided to make a little stop to the kitchen before calling it a night.
She hadn’t expected to find Rogers there and making himself a late dinner. One that included a sandwich and a beer it would seem. He was just finishing up putting it together when she arrived without his knowing. A mischievous glint sparked in her eyes as she quickly melted into the Shadows, waiting for her moment to strike.
Steve picked up his plate and beer, moving to sit on the couch in the rec room. What he hadn’t anticipated was nearly running into his team member as she hung upside down from the ceiling, long tendrils of shadows supporting her weight and keeping her from falling. His grip had loosened on both plate and bottle, but a couple of shadows darted forward to keep both from hitting the ground. Rachel’s purple gaze darted towards the prepared meal before meeting Rogers blue gaze.
“Awwww you shouldn’t have.” She cooed in a slight mocking tone.
The Captain looked like he was about to say something but she didn’t give him a chance. Leaning further down Rachel pressed a quick peck to his lips before waving cheekily at him and disappearing into the void of darkness.
Steve, for his part, stood frozen in place, his mind processing what had just happened. It was a few seconds later that he realized she had taken his sandwich and beer with her.
“Damn it.”
                                      ———————————–
The second time was before she jumped from a train.
They had been following a lead. A train transporting explosive illegal goods to be used in a worn torn country. The weapons were meant to be handled by child soldiers. Rachel had been the first to volunteer for this particular mission. If there was one thing she hated, it was seeing children being exploited because of their innocence.
The mission had been going without a hitch. Until one of the more smarter thugs had decided to activate one of the many many time bombs.
“Shit.” Natasha muttered under her breath, having followed the thug and knocking him out. This was Tony’s area of expertise. But he had been unavailable for this mission.
“Cap! We need to get off the train now!” Rachel, who had been in the process of throwing a man off the train. “Leave the party early?” She quipped to the Black Widow as the red haired woman approached her and the Captain who was busy digging his shield out of the wooden debris.
“They activated one of the bombs. We have no way to disarm it.” Steve shook his head. “We have to find a way. Falcon says if the bomb detonates it’ll cause an avalanche. There’s a village at the foot of the mountain. They won’t be able to get clear in time.”
Natasha pursed her lips. “We only have a couple minutes before that thing goes off.” Pressing a finger to his comms Steve called on Hill.
“Think your men can clear the village in time.”
“Negative. And even if they did, we need the arms as evidence for the authorities to arrest the people behind this.” Hill informed them. “You have to find another way, Cap.”
Rachel had been watching it all unfold. Her eyes darted to the bomb which informed they only had a few more minutes. Fingers twitching, a crazy idea formed in her head. It would likely end badly. But only if anything went wrong.
“Nat! You get to the engine and try and stop this train. Falcon be on the lookout for any air support. I have an idea.” Natasha nodded before sprinting off to the head of the train, while Falcon called his confirmation.
“This is either gonna go really well or really bad.” Rachel muttered to herself, as she picked up the bomb. It was a lot heavier then she had anticipated. Thank goodness the mission was one scheduled at night. More shadows for her to work with. “Hey Cap. Help me get this thing in the corner will you.” It was where the shadows were the most potent.
Dropping his shield the man easily moved the bomb to where she wanted it to be. “What exactly are you thinking Shadow?” He asked, watching her every move. Rachel could get rather unpredictable when it came to missions. She never put anyone else in danger. But she could be reckless. The woman smirked.
“Something you would disapprove of.” Closing her eyes she manged to lift the bomb with the help of her shadows. Before the darkness took her, she quickly turned to the Captain. “In case I don’t make it back.” So saying, she jumped up, wrapping her arms briefly around his shoulders and kissing him soundly on the lips. “Don’t miss me too much Rogers.” With a sly grin and a wink, she melted into the shadows, the ticking of the time bomb disappearing with her, leaving behind a stunned Captain.
“What just happened?” Falcon’s voice echoed over the comm.
No sooner had he finished speaking when a loud boom echoed into the night. Steve ran towards the nearest window, just in time to see an explosion reach sky high in a nearby lake.
It was while they were returning to base in their jet that Rachel suddenly materialized out of thin air. Her clothes were ripped and there were cuts all along her body. And she was wet. Steve was the first one to lean down next to her.
“What you couldn’t just send the bomb on its own?” He spoke harshly as he wrapped a towel around her shoulders. Rachel coughed before shaking her head.
“Had to make sure it landed where I wanted it to.” She reasoned as she stood on shaky legs. Steve glared at her.
“That was beyond reckless.” The only response he received was a roll of her purple eyes as she shuffled past to sit beside Natasha.
“Least you got something out of it.” That shut him up for the rest of the trip back to base.
                                     ———————————–
The third time was not as exciting as the second had been.
It was rather mediocre.
For once there was no threat and no mission. Stark had suggested a game night of sorts. And Rachel was one unwilling participant. It had turned out to be rather fun, though she would never admit it to anyone. Especially not Stark. And she had the chance of just hanging out with her nephew Thor. So that had been a plus.
Their games had gone on late into the night and once everyone began retiring to bed, Rachel bumped into Rogers as she walked and yawned at the same time, her eyes closing as she did, not watching where she was going.
“Sorry Rogers.” She muttered, rubbing one of her eyes, to rid of the blurriness that came with staying up late.
“Captain! You have not yet informed me of your relationship status with my Aunt.” Thor’s voice called as he approached the two of them. Steve scowled.
“There is no relationship status Thor.” He informed the god of thunder before giving Rachel an annoyed look. He had been getting questions like that from all of his team members. Tony especially, had been hard to get off his back. For her part, Rachel gave another yawn and nodded.
“He’s right. There isn’t. I just like to annoy the hell out of him. Now if you will excuse me I need me some beauty sleep.” The shadows enveloped her as soon as she finished speaking, probably to take her to room. The two men hadn’t even moved an inch before her head popped out of the shadows, right next to Steve. A quick brush of her lips against his followed by another to his cheek.
“Nearly forgot my goodnight kiss.” The tiredness was evident in her eyes, but the urge to tease was stronger. With a cackle she disappeared once more, leaving behind a confused god and an annoyed Captain.
To be continued
