10 Interesting French Fiction Books

1. Central Park by Guillaume Musso

Musso is currently the top-selling French writer in France today. His books are thrillers, sometimes with a supernatural element. Many feature children in sort of sad ways; for instance, his first novel, Et après…, follows a child who was clinically dead and came back to life, as he learns more about this experience as an adult, with the help of a mysterious doctor.

The book I’ve chosen for our list, Central Park, is about a man and a woman who wake up handcuffed together on a bench in Central Park…despite the fact that both are from different countries in Europe and neither one knows how they got there. (frenchtogether)

2. If only it were true by Marc Levy

A woman in a coma “haunts” the man now living in her home. Sound familiar? That’s because this novel was adapted into the movie “Just Like Heaven”, starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. Levy’s books are often romantic and lighthearted, though they may touch on heavy themes. His style is also generally very easy to read. (frenchtogether)

3. Corps de fille by Marie Fouquet

This novel examines the age-old French custom of "une bise" or a kiss on the check. This is a gesture of greeting, usually casual and increasingly becoming controversial as women come to express a distaste for this obligation and a desire to greet people in a less touchy manner or perhaps simply shake hands instead. During COVID-19, this practice was halted due to contagion and it remains to be seen whether it will regain its former place in French customs. Agathe, say hello to Pierre. 5. The count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

6. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The story of a lost explorer and a prince from another planet may be a good classic French book to start with, as it’s full of illustrations and easy-to-understand phrases. That doesn’t make the story any less profound, however. There’s a reason Le Petit Prince is one of the most popular French classics in countries around the world! (Frenchtogether)

7. The Stranger by Albert Camus

Camus’ short story is a philosophical tale about a man whose very ordinary life is disrupted by the death of his mother.

He is not particularly affected by her death, he doesn’t even cry, but society judges him for this lack of reaction and this later decides his fate. (whatshotblog)

8. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

Our main character Jean Valjean is released from prison after 19 years, where he was imprisoned for stealing bread.

He breaks parole and reinvents himself as a successful factory owner and mayor but Javert, a prison officer, relentless pursues him. (whatshotblog)

9. The Lover by Marguerite Duras

The Lover tells the story of a young French girl living in Colonial French Indochina during the early 1930s. As her family’s fortunes decline, she begins a sexual relationship with a much older Chinese man who, in turn, financially supports the family. (leoncechenal)

10. Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert

Madame Bovary tells the bleak story of a marriage that ends in tragedy. Charles Bovary, a good-hearted but dull and unambitious doctor with a meager practice, marries Emma, a beautiful farm girl raised in a convent. (leoncechenal)

Thine Blorbos and their media (after I figured out what the fuck they are): So many from FGO/Fate in general, but #1 most definitely Lanling. I dunno if Blorbos also can like change throughout time or not, but if they do another is Rama (FGO) and/or David. Voyager is also up there. You adore a lot of these beans. (And I do too.)

I also know you love classic literature so you HAVE to have a sweet Blorbo from something. To many novels to even consider for that (might be Edmond Dantès from The Count of Monte Cristo but he is also in FGO so I honestly have no clue what to put him under).

Marvel Universe I have to say Loki. I'm not like 100% sure but I would say it's like a 50%. If I get it right I'll be surprised.

Your clarinet is deemed a Blorbo. I'll die on this hill and I will not accept arguments. Speaking of music, Salieri. FGO. I can't lie but I love so many servants from FGO too so I may or may not have multiple Blorbo beans from it to so I don't blame you.

Head empty, no thoughts at 1am. I attempted my best. I probably missed so many. Or guessed too many. Who knows?

SFW Alphabet Headcannons: Fate x Reader

Hello everyone! I’ve decided to try and write a non request every month, based on the theme of the month. Let me know what you think and if there’s something you’d rather see month to month; I have a couple of chapter like stories out there or if one shots are a better way to go. I hope you enjoy! This month’s story is some cute SFW HCs about some angsty Fate boys.

Archer/Gilgamesh:

A = Affection (How affectionate are they?)

He thinks that he’s very affectionate. Gil expresses affection like a cat; if you’re in the same room as him that means you’re hanging out and spending time together. He’s more affectionate in private, preferring to have you sitting next to him and touching in some way. In public, his affection comes out more possessive, making sure that people know you’re together. Gill will throw an arm around your shoulder or waist, eyes locked on whoever wants your attention.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

Gilgamesh is not a gentle person and he never claims to be. He’s not usually willing to talk about his past or his emotions but he’s willing to talk about yours and listen. Usually his advice tends to be ‘ignore them, they’re mongrels and who cares that they think’ but he’s a very good listener. Gil only likes to touch you in private, mostly because he can never stop himself from being gentle when he touches you. He has a hard time taking his hands off you once he starts so he does his best to avoid it in public. If he had his way you would be in his arms 100% of the time.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs? Does it change around a partner?)

He’s not a heavy sleeper and that doesn’t change once you start sleeping with him. He falls asleep after you more often than not but he doesn’t mind. Gil likes to watch you sleep, counting your breathes and gently stroking your hair. He prefers to sleep next to you but won’t say anything if he wakes up and you’re snuggled close to him. He does have a habit of chasing you to bed if he wants your attention, using you resting as an excuse to snuggle with you.

Berserker/Cu Chulainn:

A = Affection (How affectionate are they?)

This Cu wouldn’t know affection if it smacked him in the face. Any of the affection that he would show in his other classes is no where to be seen here. It can be hard to tell that he likes you at all but he shows it in other ways. He protects you and is your shadow in everything. Cu is only affectionate behind closed doors, liking to curl up in your lap and have you run your fingers through his hair.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He’s not good with emotions and expressing emotions. Most of the time he ignores his emotions, preferring to focus on actions instead. Cu learns that this doesn’t work when you’re trying to show someone that you care. He can be rough when he touches you, not because he wants to hurt you but because he thinks that you can handle it. He’ll never bruise you (unless you ask) but he will tug and pull on you to get your attention. Emotionally, Cu has an easier time talking through the bond than out loud. The two of you have more silent conversations than people realize. He doesn’t mind talking to you but everyone else? Not worth the energy.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs? Does it change around a partner?)

Cu sleeps like the dead if not on a mission. If you’re out in the field he very rarely sleeps, preferring to keep watch and use mana to keep his energy up. When back at Chaldea, he curls up like a giant dragon and passes out. You will become his pillow if you’re within reach. He won’t wake up for an emergency unless it’s really intense and then it better be good or heads are going to roll.

Avenger/Edmond Dantès:

A = Affection (How affectionate are they?)

Edmond shows his affection through teasing. Usually, it’s dark and others often think that he’s threatening you but he means it to be purely affectionate. He thinks that he has a great sense of humor and that the darker the joke, the better. It’s not often and he usually says it in a dry tone but you can tell when he’s joking with you. It’s a little fucked up but the first time you respond to one of his jokes (or make your own), he’s over the moon. It can make people nervous, seeing the two of you joke around but Edmond soaks it up like a sponge.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

His tongue is sharp and words of affection only come when you’re sleeping or he’s worried about your safety. Edmond can be harsh, and he won’t stop being blunt just because you’re together. He strives to be as honest as possible, especially with you. He does not initiate touch in public; Edmond gets nervous with physical touch. Some days he won’t want to touch at all, even if you are in private. He shows he loves you with gifts, leaving things around your room and bringing you things that you’re missing. He feels like he doesn’t deserve you and this is one way he feels he can show he cares without corrupting you.

Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs? Does it change around a partner?)

Sleep comes easier when he sleeps with you. It’s not a huge surprise that he has nightmares, given his life and past. When you sleep next to him, however, he finds that the nightmares come much less often. As much as he hates to seem weak in front of you, he enjoys it when you support him after a nightmare. Edmond’s sleep schedule is wonky so the traditional ‘sleeping next to each other’ is rare but he will nap next to you when he can. He likes to be by your side as you sleep, mostly to make sure you’re alright.

14.Leave in charge of my home while I’m away. Thank you, friend.

1. Fauchelevant. He has a proven track record of taking care of the convent garden. He might do something for my balcony plants and the house will be at least not in a worse state than I left it in. I can leave him cooked meals while he is incharge too.

2. Marius. He's likely pre-occupied by Cosette and/or his law studies and translation work and is not going to notice a lot of things around the house such as watering the plants, sweeping/cleaning (also he's bourgeois as heck so will not know how to take care of the house properly), but I can reasonably expect that he will not have broken many things and he will be at least polite, awkward and unremarkable as a neighbour so people won't complain.

3. Bahorel. There's like atleast a 50% chance, possibly 80% or more, that there will be a Romantic nekkid weed party or a badly tuned organ playing in the balcony or the Romantics will have invited friends over and they will be painting the walls with murals or singing or making flower crowns or throwing skeletons around or rearranging the furniture to have ice cream in skull type gatherings. I want to be there, I do not want to leave while Bahorel is there, I have such a huge crush on him. I want to talk for hours with my favourite Romantics. So this is less than ideal, and there is a high chance my neighbours will hate me for all the goings on. But he can be reasonably relied on to clean and take care of the plants and maybe grow more vegetables and fruits, so not too bad. Just that I would not want to leave while he's there.

4. Edmond Dantes. Hoo boy, he will probably be using the place for a weed/opium orientalist party which would be part of his revenge purposes and I do not want to be involved in his revenge shenanigans. I am only here looking for Eugenie and her girlfriend and supporting them in running away. I do not want to deal with Edmond's revenge schemes. The only upside is that he has servant(s) and can keep the place very neat and clean if he wants to. The downside is being involved in his revenge schemes and having a lot of questions being asked about the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo, and having a clean place isn't worth that imo.:P

5. d'Art. d'Art is 19 and he makes terrible choices all the time, there will be a lot of mud and dust and maybe some blood splatters around if he is fighting duels outside or inside the house (you never know), and unless he brings his valet, the house will stay a mess especially if Porthos, Aramis and Athos are also hanging around. But even with his valet, hoo boy do I not want to leave a 19 year old, hot headed immature d'Artagnan incharge of my house. Everything would get broken in fights. At least they would have had fun and adventures.

The Returned

Chapter Two: Interview with a Count

“I can’t believe someone was powerful enough to do that.” Cora said as she looked at her daughters then at her hands with a frown. “This person could had least give us our powers back. Are you two finding anything that could help us?”

“No mother.” Zelena answered as she bounced her daughter on her hips.

Regina and her had been through every book they could find in the former Evil Queen’s house. Belle had also done that in the library while Rumpeltilskin was still looking through ancient books in his pawnshop with his father Malcolm. Regina sighed as she closed the last book and sat on the sofa, tired. Daniel appeared with Robin with coffee and tea and the two women accepted the drinks. Regina observed her two lovers with a smile. She loved Robin and Robin loved her, of course Daniel understood but she told him he could stay there and he was great with kids. The two men also become friends very quickly.

“By the way, Snow called.” Robin told her. “There are new people in town, people from another realm. Her and David are questioning them. Maybe they know something.”

“That is a good idea.” Zelena approved as she fed her baby.

“So this person brought you all back to life and brought other people here… But why?” Regina wondered, frustrated.

“Do you think this person could be evil?” Daniel asked her.

“I don’t know. Ugh, this is getting on my nerves.”

Suddenly, her phone began to ring and she answered it after looking who was phoning her.

“Hello Rumpel.” She greeted.

“Hello dearie. Well, I didn’t find anything and Belle didn’t too.”

“Yes I know, she called me…”

“I have a feeling that this person might be among the new group of people who appeared today. Maybe I should interrogate them instead of the two Charmings, you know, with a bit of magic, someone could start to talk.” The man said.

“No, you could make them afraid. Send Emma. She will know how to do it. How’s your father by the way?”

She heard Rumpeltilskin’s laugh and she guessed that the older man was struggling with his own father. If it was up to her, she would have murdered him on the spot. He was responsible for a lot of crimes, including trying to kill Henry, kidnapping him, detaining a young girl, manipulating young influenceable boys, killing Hook’s brother… And the list went on.

“Behaving like a child. Did I mention he wanted to find Felix? And not to have friendly chattering, like former friends would do, you know…”

“Stop right there.” Regina cut him, knowing what he meant. “I might throw up. Keep your beast of a father in a cell or something. If you find anything, call me.”

“Of course dearie.”

David looked at the man in front of him, dressed with fine clothing from the XIX century. This person was the last one to be interviewed and they were all tired but they all wanted to know what happened and how dead people started to reappear and how people travelled to this land so quickly. The Charming couple explained to him who they were and Snow White smiled at him. She asked him to introduce himself.

“I am the Count of Monte Cristo.” He spoke with a proud voice.

“Wait… So you are Edmond Dantès?” Snow White questioned, remembering suddenly about the book written by Alexandre Dumas she read not too long ago.

“I don’t know what you are talking about, madame.” The man said, lying obviously.

They smiled at him, in a way to comfort him into talking a little more and to make him feel safe about his secret.

“Don’t worry, your real name won’t be known. We just need to know who you really are so we can help you the best we can.” David explained kindly.

“Alright then, monsieur. Yes, I am Edmond Dantès, but this man is dead. He is no more. Now, here I am, reborn as the Count of Monte Cristo.”

“Thank you, Count. So, do you have any memory of what you were doing before getting here?”

“I was talking with Haydée about a party I will be hosting to reveal the truth about my enemies and believe me, they need to be punished for what they did. What can I say about her? She is a young, very nice, lovely and smart girl that I saved from wicked war criminals. We are friends too. She is waiting for me outside this… strange place.” He answered, looking around.

“Okay.” Snow said as she was written everything down. “What happened next?”

“Well, as I was saying, we were talking and suddenly, we saw a red smoke surrounding us and entering in the living room. As I recall now, I heard someone… singing.”

The married couple looked at each other.

“Singing?” David said.

“Singing.” The Count repeated, nodding. “It was a man. His voice was full with sorrow and anger. Then, Haydée screamed and I tried to understand what I was happening. I remember closing my eyes and falling on the floor.”

“And it’s at this moment that Grumpy found you, with the rest.” David finished for the exhausted Count.

“Yes.”

“Thank you so much, Count.” Snow White thanked as she stood up, shaking his hand. “Your testimony will greatly help us!”

“You are very welcome.” The man smiled as Grumpy appeared in the room to guide the Count to where he was going to sleep. “Madame, Monsieur.” He bowed before greeting the dwarf politely.

Snow White turned to her husband.

“So, it seems like the Count is more observant and has a better memory than everyone else. Do you think we should ask questions to Haydée?”

“No, she is a child and I think she would say the same thing as the Count.” David answered as the short haired woman nodded. “I am going to text Regina, Rumpletilskin and Emma. Maybe they found something too. If not, they will have resources to do so.”

“I just hope we can help them find their ways back to their homelands.” Snow replied sadly.

“We will, Snow. We will.” David comforted her as he was done sending texts to everyone.

They hugged for a long moment before standing up and leaving the sheriff station. The sun was still high in the sky but it was almost sunset.

“Do you want to go to Granny’s to eat and drink something?” David asked Snow White softly as he took her hand.

“Yes, this would be nice. We stayed in this station for a very long time. We should had started to interrogate the Count first, it would had spared us some time.” She chuckled as they made their way to the small restaurant.

“How do you think Emma and Hook are doing with Felix?”

“After what Emma told me when she called, they are having… a few disagreements and many arguments.” The woman answered with a wince.

“I still don’t understand why they chose to keep him with them.” David said harshly. “He helped Peter Pan.”

“Yes but everyone deserves a second chance…” She murmured.

“Except Malcom and the Black Fairy.” He growled.

“Look at Regina, she was evil remember? Well, it was not entirely her fault but with some works, she is now good and nice with everyone! Anyone can change, David.”

David hummed as he looked at the people outside: parents playing with their children on the playground, a group of teenagers eating ice cream, a woman walking her dog… It was almost normal and quiet for once. No bad people for the moment who needed to be stopped urgently. It was perfect.

“Come on, mate. Show me. Open the door.” Hook said with an amusing voice, staring at the bedroom’s door.

Him and Emma had succeeded to buy him new clothes and they tried to coax him into wearing them. For the former pirate, it was funny but for the former lost boy, it was not.

“No!” Felix protested from the other side. “I look… ridiculous! Why can’t I keep my own clothes?”

Emma appeared and rolled her eyes when she heard that. Felix had been trying to be a nightmare to them but of course, they didn’t break. She didn’t know why but she wanted to help him, even if he was being a five years old right now.

“If you don’t open the door, I will open it with my magic.” The blond woman threatened. “And you can’t keep them because it is not what teenagers are wearing this century.”

They heard him groan and finally, he opened the door. He stepped out of the room and glared at the two adults. Emma had given him to wear a dark coloured jean, with Dr. Martens black boots, a long sleeved red shirt and a black leather jacket. And to be honest, it suited him. Hook left the two alone, hearing the timer for the food ringing.

“I feel bloody ridiculous.” He repeated, arms crossed.

“You shouldn’t be.” Emma stated as she looked him up and down. “You look like a normal teenage boy.” She added with a smile.

“I don’t see why looking like everyone else is good and will help in any way.” The teenager argued.

“It will help you make friends.” She replied.

“I don’t want friends…” Felix said through gritted teethes, hoping that she didn’t hear him. “And I don’t need one…”

In fact, she did hear him and she understood why he was feeling that way. She felt sad for him because everyone needed a friend. She should ask Henry to introduce him to the older students in his school, maybe it could help. Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she looked at the screen before walking quickly in the living room. Henry was helping Hook to set the table for the diner.

“My parents found some information about the person who brought all this people here, thanks to the Count of Monte Cristo.” She smirked.

“Like in the book?!” Henry asked excitedly.

“Apparently yeah. They sent a text to everyone, we will have a reunion tomorrow at the city hall. And no Henry, you can’t come, you have school.”

The boy groaned and sat at the table.

“Where is Felix?” Hook asked.

“Still in his room, I think.” Emma said. “I am going to get him.”

She found him staring at his reflection in the mirror.

“I hate those clothes.” He stated.

“Well if you want to go naked tomorrow to school, be my guest. Now, we are going to have diner and you need to eat something.” She replied.

“School?” He asked her.

“Yeah, school.” She repeated with a sigh, annoyed by Felix’s behaviour but she noted that his attitude changed when she mentioned the school. “What is it?” She asked, a bit worried.

“Nothing…” He muttered as he left his room with her.

She patted him on the shoulder and observed that he lightly flinched from her touch.

Hello! WOH anon here 👋🏻 thanks for answering so honestly to my ask. Interesting point of view, I honestly thought WenZhou is your type of ship :)) i didn't read the novel, so can't compare with it. I really want to read it, when I have more free time. but I agree 100% on loving Wen Kexing ❤

2 other characters that I found very intriguing are Ye Baiyi and Xie Wang. You already mentioned your love for Senior Ye - i'm curious about your thoughts on him and what you like most about him. I'm honetsly still thinking of his reasoning of going down the mountain and giving up his immortal life 🥺

Aaand a very very interesting character is the Scorpion King. First, I love his looks, his eyes are very pretty, his smile, his clothes, his gestures... 🥰😍 you get the point 😅

His personality and his thoughts tho... he has some of the most heart-wrenching scenes... for me, at least. I wanted to murder Zhao Jing, I felt the blood rushing to my head while watching the scenes when he manipulated, gaslighted and outright abused and betrayed Xie'er 🤬🤯😠 but maybe I feel so strongly bc I resonate with him (in a lighter way). I know he is the villain, but I still like him a lot.

they are my type of ship in theory but i just found their story pretty flat, ig because of the atmosphere of the show in general...

i don't remember who xie wang is i'm sorry;; as for ye baiyi i love this sort of character with a very sarcastic attitude but a very loyal heart. his lines are gold and the actor gave him so much presence. highlight of the show tbh!

the scorpion king... once again i'm so sorry but i didn't like him and played most of his scenes at x2 speed toward the end. the actor did a good job there's nothing wrong about the character i just didn't find him interesting. and it's nbd to sympathize with a villain! i love good villains. where would fiction even be if no one could sympathize with a villain? alexandre dumas didn't pour his entire pussy into writing edmond dantès so we could be shaking in terror about liking villains 170 years later.

tl;dr i don't think i will be able to engage in a very motivating convo about woh and i'm very sorry about it... if you read or watch guardian however. don't hesitate to hmu. here's a taste of the perfection that is zhao yunlan and shen wei's love for each other
