' b-because ! ! ‘ he spat back, not even able to be who he was supposed to be right now. ‘ stay very still. don’t lay further down, don’t lay down ‘ he said as his mind kept processing things, his eyes kept scanning and assessing as quickly as they could. ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 wasn’t made for this, he might be mafia, he might have done it for someone else, but he wasn’t made to do it for chrome. for a brief moment, he wished K A Y would be here, he’ll know what to do. he’ll react way more faster than ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 ever could. K A Y wasn’t around, though and it kickstarted something in ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔. he took his jacket off quickly. he reached over his head and pulled the shirt he was wearing over his shoulders and over his head. he though about ripping the thing in two, but that would take more time than the one he had, so he’d stick with leaving it like that. he began wrapping it around the knife and just over the entrance. the wrapping might hurt so he commanded chrome not to move. ‘ don’t let it go out, okay ? ! ‘ he said firmly as he held chromes hand against the knife for emphasis. ‘ i know it hurts but if you feel it go out, you hold it back in place ‘ he said, pressing the rest of the fabric onto his skin. ‘ i’m sorry ‘ he apologized before he did what he was about to do. without a warning or talking him through it, ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 lifted chrome up. ‘ 괜찮아, 괜찮아 ‘ he reassured him as his features transformed in alien pain. ‘ i’ll take you to someone who’ll take care of this, you’ll be okay. i promise, you’ll be okay ‘

putting in name definition from various name related sites + my own rationale. any incorrect info i apologize for i am not a name scientist i am a simpleton on the internet with my blorbos

rules: google and post the meaning of your oc’s name (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! bonus if you can find something for their last name too

VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE

Briar Mary (Mary Bishop)

Usual English form of Maria, the Latin form of the New Testament Greek names Μαριάμ (Mariam) and Μαρία (Maria) — the spellings are interchangeable — which were from Hebrew מִרְיָם (Miryam), a name borne by the sister of Moses in the Old Testament. The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".

Entirely given due to religious symbolism, surname included. I also like how ordinary / common of a name it is. It’s fun to combo with an adjective like briar. The suspected actual meaning of the name also works really well for her whole vibe.

Casimir Savatier

English form of the Polish name Kazimierz, derived from the Slavic element kaziti "to destroy" combined with miru "peace, world".

From Old French savatier "shoemaker", derived from savate "shoe", of uncertain ultimate origin.

I really like how the name Casimir sounds, and its meaning is basically his whole modus operandi after Elaine gets ashed. His surname is due to him having relatively humble origins. And he’s French.

Elaine de la Saules

From an Old French form of Helen. It appears in Arthurian legend; in Thomas Malory's 15th-century compilation Le Morte d'Arthur Elaine was the daughter of Pelleas, the lover of Lancelot, and the mother of Galahad.

Her name, like Athanasia’s, was chosen mostly due to its use for the era and region of her birth. She’s got her own tragic love story going on so its ties in kinda nicely. Her ‘surname’ as it were is just ‘of the Willows’ in French as her bandages / peeling skin make her arms look like willow branches. Yuck.

Athanasia the Nymph

From the Greek name Ἀθανάσιος (Athanasios) meaning "immortal", from Greek ἀ (a), a negative prefix, combined with θάνατος (thanatos) meaning "death".

Initially picked just because a few historical Greek ladies of the era had it as a name and I thought it was sick, actual meaning is pretty on the nose since she’s a VERY long lived vampire. Happy accidents.

Viola Florakis

Means "violet" in Latin. This was the name of the heroine in Shakespeare's play Twelfth Night (1602).

There are two parts to this name- “Flor” which means flower, blossom or virginity. The other part “akis” that means originating from Crete.

Viola’s first name isn’t her actual first name, her regnant (later sire) picks it for her based on her surname having floral connotations (and her having been into Shakespeare at the time). Viola’s family is Greek, surname is actually that of one of my dad’s old Greek pals because I’m a hack. (Fun fact: my godfather is Greek. :V)

THE ELDER SCROLLS

Vaka

Derived from Old Norse vakr ''wakeful, watchful, alert, valiant, brave, fast''.

Actually got her name from a Sigur Ros song, investigation into its actual meaning fit pretty perfectly for the woman who ends up Hero of Kvatch. Special attention to the wakeful/watchful/alert as she’s a ranger at heart.

Stellan of Twin Sight

Meaning unknown, perhaps related to Old Norse stilling "calm", or perhaps of German origin.

As the son of Martin and Vaka, born after Vaka ends up mantling Sheogorath and the rare living soul born into a Daedric realm, Stellan is weird and was a weirdly quiet baby. Figured Vaka would name him something based on that. Based on my research some people like to associate it with stars although it’s unlikely to be the actual name meaning, but stars and fate and destiny had a lot to do with his parents’ relationship and his resulting birth so fuck it. The ‘Twin Sight’ title is based both on his heterochromia and his inheritance of the Septim prophetic dream stuff.

Idunn Kyne-Kissed

Probably derived from Old Norse ið "again" and unna "to love". In Norse mythology Iðunn was the goddess of spring and immortality whose responsibility it was to guard the gods' apples of youth.

Idunn’s mother was a priestess of Kyne so I wanted to give her a nature based name. Goddess of spring / immortality suits the mix of Kyne / Akatosh that being Dragonborn seems to have. The Kyne-Kissed is a title she gets after realizing she has the Voice. Breath of Kyne and whatall.

Tandreth

Entirely made up. -reth is a somewhat common Dunmer dude first name suffix. The tand- is me messing around with the name Theodred because I quite like it. His name is essentially me trying to spin it into something dark elfy.

Actual meaning of Theodred is:

taken from the Anglo-Saxon words þeod ("folk", "people", "nation") and ræd ("counsel").

which does suit his role as Idunn’s advisor after everything’s dealt with, but I mostly picked it because it sounded cool. In universe he’s named after his great uncle who raised the Nerevarine, so his name isn’t aggressively Ashlander like Raansi’s is.

Azuraansi

As child of the Nerevarine (and firstborn, although she and Tandreth are twins she’s a minute or five older) I wanted her to essentially be named after Azura in tribute. -ansi is an Ashlander name suffix. In universe she mostly goes by Raansi for ease of pronunciation and so the normie Nords / Imperials don’t get pissed off about Daedric worship.

FALLOUT

Tin Lizzy

From Ἐλισάβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע ('Elisheva') meaning "my God is an oath", derived from the roots אֵל ('el) referring to the Hebrew God and שָׁבַע (shava') meaning "oath".

Her name is actually probably the oldest out of all my OCs, given in a Fallout 3 playthrough in like... 2009. The original model T Ford was called a “Tin Lizzie” in slang, I read that in a magazine or some shit, and thought it sounded suitably wastelander-y. With Liam Neeson as a dad Elizabeth sounds like a name James would actually give his daughter. Fancy like Catherine is. Re: the actual meaning of Elizabeth, oaths and duty are what spurs Lizzy on and motivates her actions so hey. It works.

This one is another ‘sounds cool’ one tho oops. I think I gave her a surname at some point but I forget it I never use it. >>

Carmen Torres

Medieval Spanish form of Carmel influenced by the Latin word carmen "song".

Torres (sometimes spelled Torrez) is a surname in the Portuguese and Spanish languages, meaning "Towers".

Mix of regional names and what sounds cool and a lil smidge of symbolic. I adore the name Carmen (and was unfortunately on a Lana del Rey kick when I got big into New Vegas) and Torres was a little wink wink nudge nudge to the Lucky 38. She mostly goes by the Courier, though.

Eleanora

No known meaning for the name besides it’s Germanic origin, but it was the given name of a bunch of medieval queens. I decided to say fuck it and roll with the canonical Nora name for the Sole Survivor but wanted to give it a lil bit of my own thought. In universe she very rarely goes by it so I guess it doesn’t matter. Her surname is A MYSTERY

FFXIV

Saskia Highcliff

From the Germanic element sahs "Saxon". The Saxons were a Germanic tribe, their name ultimately deriving from the Germanic word sahs meaning "knife".

Another picked because it was cool name oops. In universe Viera (Saskia’s race) are given Scandinavian names at birth, but if they’re out in the greater world they’re exiles or have willingly left and often rename themselves because of it. Saskia’s done the same. Went with her first name because I love it. Her surname is the first type of land mass she saw after sailing away from home - a high cliff.

Stellan Hearthseeker

We already got the meaning of the name Stellan out of the way because I’m a hackfraud with two different OCs with the same first name

He keeps the first name he was given at birth since he doesn’t assign the weight and sacredness Saskia does to their culture, he doesn’t mind it being known by outsiders. His surname is more of a title - boy loves cozying up by the fire or crashing on people’s couches. It’s a bit of a mean joke but he’s rolling with it.

So today I need to shout-out my anger.

I guess I am not one of the really bad cosplayer also not one of the top one, but I always try to give my best. Perfection is something I search in every cosplay I do and I really try to copy all details from top to bottom. In Italy I am known as "Jinx" and I also got a lot of compliments from official drawers of RIOT GAMES for that cosplay. The versions I have done are two; the classic one and the skin called Ambitious Elf. But I have done a lot of other cosplays, too.

On Instagram I have only 2.9k and I am trying to grow. I try different techniques to gain follower but I don't know why it doesn't work. Hate that really much, because I really work on good content and high quality pictures. You will find only one or two selfie in all that pictures. The rest of them are all made by professional photographer. So I guess the quality isn't the problem. Just nobody can see me. I can't reach anybody!

But I tried to write to a cosplay shop for sponsorship just one dress; the new Jinx skin called Hearthseeker. And obviously I got rejected because of my follower number. But why? Why everyone just looks at the follower number but not at the content and pictures? I don't understand. I just filled with anger and sadness.

Now I will try to grow on Instagram more then before and I hope I can reach that damn 10k mark so I can reach out for that sponsorship.

------ ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 has been gone for a while. this time, his mission hadn’t been out of town, it had been abroad and it had lasted a couple of months. since dates got pretty blurry to him as time went by, he didn’t quite remember how long it’s been since he had been in this training location. along with track of time, ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 had also lost some memories and his platinum hair. it seemed as he had lost many things lately and it showed in his overall demeanour. whether he had lost track of chrome and the sensation of his fingers over his skin was something ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 was not willing to talk about. // he’s been training all day today. he had been testing K A Y and perfecting his knife manipulation skills in the set they’ve put up some time ago in this old basketball court. from a distance, it was noticeable how close ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 and K A Y had actually grown during their mission abroad. K A Y would put physical into their training and press ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 to repeat, redo and be harsher, stronger to the point he will end up pinning K A Y with too much force, holding him down for way to long with a knife against his throat. there was frustration, there was power play and there was something unspoken in between them. - training was hard, and it became even harder when K A Y noticed a tremor on ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔’s hand, chasing him around so he would just let him see it ! ! ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 pushing him away again and again and to the point it was mentally draining. // when ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 bumps into chrome, he is covered in sweat and stupid tired. he’s in the locker room, gather his things so he can finally get in the showers and relax his muscles before going to the dorms for the night. his hair is all messy and his thoughts are all scattered, so it takes him some time to process the words that fall from chrome’s lips. dark chocolate orbs settle on chrome and for a moment he says nothing. a moment later, ⊹𝖎𝖓𝖘𝖔𝖔 shakes his head some, hand reaching up to caress his cheek like he had done all that time ago and he says: ‘ we’re not alone, maybe later ‘ the last bit was more like an open question, because his hand had to be retrieved soon after and at the sound of some people passing by in the hallway.
