The thing was Percy didn't like being a bad kid. Every time he got kicked out of a school or wound up in the counselor's office over some incident he wasn't completely blameless for, his mom's brows would pinch. The line on her lip dipped. He knew what she was thinking each time: lost wages, job risk, who was going to watch him if he got suspended, where would she send him if he got kicked out, and so on.

He hated that he did that to her. Being a bad kid meant being a bad son. He refused to be a bad son - not on purpose anyway.

Well, he used to. She wasn't here anymore. Her brows weren't going to furrow. Her lips wouldn't thin. Her shoulders wouldn't draw up and tense before the principal even opened their mouth. It was over.

He didn't have anyone anymore. Nobody at cabin eleven would look at him. Other cabins steered around him like he was carrying the plague. Grover was off doing whatever satyrs did - probably getting ready to infiltrate some new school, befriend some new kid, save their lives. He didn't need Percy. It’d only been a few days but they'd barely interacted. Older satyrs would yank him along into the wood before Percy could get close or even open his mouth. Even Annabeth just eyed Percy with scrutinizing eyes - like she was assessing him for something. But every time he tried to approach her outside of their lessons, she brushed him off.

No one wanted Percy around.

What was the point of being a good kid anymore? There wasn't anything or anyone forcing him to keep his head above water. He was tired of the murmurs. He was tired of the avoidance. Tired of the glares from the Ares cabin. Tired of trying to keep the quake in his stomach tamped down.

He was just tired.

He thumbed along the flat edge of his sword. His new best friend was the pervasive feeling of loneliness. With a miserable sigh, he tucked the sword into the holster on his hip. People barely wanted to spar with him now so he was stuck to sweating it out on the dummies by himself. At least only when Luke wasn't pushing him as hard as possible.

But even with Luke there seemed to be pause. The first time Percy felt his gut yank after being claimed had been in training with Luke, and as soon as the feeling caught him, Luke begged off. Like he'd seen something in Percy that unnerved him. Sometimes when Percy looked in the mirror, he saw something in his eyes that unnerved him. A foreign thing - like a contact lens put in the wrong way.

No amount of poking or prodding at his eyes was going to get it out though. It was inside him - in his blood. He was sure of it.

He was starting to worry that it was the very thing he'd been keeping back, the very thing his mom was trying to keep him safe from.

The clang of metal against metal was loud as he walked past other trainees. There were a couple people leaning against the wall near the water fountain. As expected, they shifted away as he neared. Mistrust was bright in their eyes.

He did his best to ignore it. Not the first time people had stared at him like they thought he was dangerous. Or beneath them.

The water sprayed for a moment before he lowered his head. It was clarifying. He'd noticed it before, a burst of energy with every sip whenever he was tired, but ever since being claimed, he'd noticed the alertness more and more.

As he let go of the button, he caught the tail end of the muttering nearby. His stomach dropped.

“... should've ditched him sooner,” one boy grumbled. His friend snorted. “Maybe then she wouldn't have died.”

“What did you say?” The two startled. Percy understood why. He barely recognized his own voice, the eerie coldness to it frosty on his own tongue. Still, he repeated as he twisted on his heels to face them. “What. Did you just say?”

Panic besot them. For a second, the barest of a second, he could feel it kick in - be a good boy for me, Percy, be a good kid for Mom.

But she wasn't here.

She wasn't here.

So what was the point?

He took a step forward. “What,” he snarled, saliva coating his tongue like froth, “did you say?”

The others shifted away but he just crept forward. “Nothing, man,” one of them finally bit out, but they were lying. He could see it in their eyes, hear in their voice, feel it in their veins.

“You're lying,” he said. A bitten off laugh echoed from his lips. “You were talking about my mom.” Another choked laugh. “You think it's my fault?”

One of them raised his hands - a mock surrender. “Hey, dude-”

“You think I wanted her to die?” A sharp sensation coiled through Percy's chest. It thrummed hot and heavy, piling, piling, piling on his lungs. “You think I asked for ANY OF THIS?”

Someone's hand came to rest on his shoulder and it was like the crashing of the waves against his bare feet. Cold, clarifying, clear.

Freeing.

His fist drove straight into the jaw of whoever was behind him. He could barely tell who he was seeing - it might've been Luke, or any other tall blonde guy. But as soon as whoever it was stumbled back, he whirled around and punched whichever kid was closest in the stomach. They went down and he clambered on top to wail. Fist and fist upon whatever body part he could reach. He wasn't the most elegant hand-to-hand fighter but there was something to be said for the voracious and vicious energy boiling through him.

Distantly he was aware of yelling around him, aware of people pulling at him, aware of the person beneath him crying, arms over their face, arms Percy was tired of hitting. He needed to get their face, get their tongue, rip his mom from their mouth. How dare they speak about her.

How dare anyone talk about her.

A dozen hands finally yanked him back. He screamed. Bodies toppled. He grabbed the closest one by their hair, driving his knee upwards over and over again until hands ripped him away again. Swung blindly and caught someone. The two of them fell. His stomach pulled back. They choked. They weakened. He swung himself over until he was on top.

I want you all to drown, he thought, grabbing at their jaw. Don't ever speak of her again.

Saliva smeared across his fingers. His stomach pulled back even more. What was that - blood, water? On his hands, on his knees, on their skin, on their faces, in their veins.

His free hand drew out. He wanted it. It was his. Didn't they get that? She was his, and she was gone, so he would take and take all else that belonged to him until the hole in his chest was gone. Until the water they had coursing inside them filled him up.

“Percy,” someone whispered.

Their voice was familiar, breath hot against Percy's ear. He twitched. The feeling of nearby water, nearby fluid, was clenched tight in his fist. He just had to pull back. Yank it. Make it his.

The voice turned pleading. “Percy.”

He froze as two hot hands came to clasp his cheeks, dark brown eyes and curly hair blurring into view. Grover's face.

“Grover,” he breathed. For the first time since he'd ended up at camp, he relaxed.

Grover's thumbs stroked his skin. “Yeah, it's me.” He leaned in closer. “Percy, you need to stop.”

“Stop?”

“You're hurting people," he said. “You have to stop.”

Why? Percy thought. He didn't care. He didn't care if they hurt, didn't care if they drowned where they laid choking, didn't care if they suffered. It didn't mean anything to him. They didn't mean anything to him.

But this was Grover.

And with his mom gone, Grover meant the world.

“You want me to stop?”

“Yes,” Grover said. His breath was warm, his skin hot, his body close. Distantly Percy remembered nights at school like this - Grover tucked up next to him, trying his best to help Percy study when most people would've bailed. “I want you to stop.”

His lips were wobbling. His eyes were thick with wetness. His voice was unsteady - trying to be calm and rapidly failing. Even his hands shook.

Percy grabbed at his wrists. “Okay,” he whispered as he clung. His stomach relaxed slowly, the crash turning into a tickle. “I'm good, I'm good.”

Shakily, Grover exhaled, pressed his forehead to Percy's, and murmured, “I know, I know.”

His hands pulled away from Percy's face, but not away from him, arms wrapping around his neck and pulling him in for a tight hug. Percy's breathing wobbled as he tucked his face into the crook of Grover's neck. He clung tight and desperate. Pleading.

No, he couldn't be a good son anymore. He didn't have to bother keeping in check to avoid the thin line of his mom's lips. But he could be a good friend. To keep the tears out of Grover's eyes, the tremble from his skin.

“I can be good,” he promised quietly, for Grover's ears only. “I promise I can be good.”

“I know,” Grover said. His cheek pressed against Percy's. “I believe you.”

The fountain nearby trickled quietly. The steady flow soothed the unease between Percy's shoulders. Still, he squeezed the pillow in his grip tighter to his chest as he watched Grover flit around the bunk closest to him. He snapped the final end of the sheet around the mattress. Hooves clopped quietly against the tile as he stepped back. His gaze flickered between Percy's bed and his own.

Then he grunted and began pushing it closer.

Percy hopped up. The discarded pillow slipped from his fingers and onto the floor. He nearly tripped over it trying to get to Grover's side. They pushed the other bunk over until it was pressed into Percy's.

While Grover unfurled his blanket, Percy stepped back. Awkwardness choked him. He didn't know what to do, what to say. So he picked the pillow off from the floor and pressed it into his chest. Grover didn't spare him many glances as he worked to make up the bed. Leaning across his bunk, he yanked Percy's blanket from between the seam where the two bed frames connected and began tying the edges of both blankets together. It was shoddy work, no way it wasn't coming apart just from them lying on the sheets, much less sleeping.

But Grover did it anyway.

As he shifted back, hooves scraping the floor, Percy held out the pillow. Grover dusted off the top then laid it against the headboard. With both hands on his hips, he admired his work. Percy stared at it too. It was nice. Joined bed. Grover within direct reach.

His palms itched.

“Are you scared of me?”

Grover twisted around. His brows furrowed, but the edges of his lips were quirked upwards. It was reminiscent of school - Percy stumbling over something he read and Grover, lost but amused, over why Percy thought it was a man-of-war that Theseus fought.

He was partially grateful Grover cut him off before he could finish what he actually thought the sentence was trying to say. It certainly wasn't fight.

“I mean,” Grover started and Percy's stomach drew back. Behind him the trickle of the fountain silenced. Like the water was holding its breath too. “I'm scared for other people, but I'm not scared of you.” He punched Percy's arm with a quiet smile. “I know you're not going to hurt me, Percy. That's why I stopped you.”

The fountain began to trickle again. “And that-” He faltered. The ghost Grover's touched goosed up his bicep and across his shoulder. “-that doesn't worry you?”

That you might have to stop me again went unspoken but Grover was always good at understanding Percy's unspoken words, at knowing his unspoken feelings - even the ones Percy wasn't even aware he felt.

He sighed. “It worries me. But not because it's you.” He shook his head. “And definitely not because I'm scared of you hurting me.”

His eyes scanted away, brows furrowing deeper. Then he relaxed into the bed. After teetering on his heels for a couple seconds, Percy joined him. He gripped the edge of his shorts so tight his palms burned. Grover reached over to stroke along the back of his hand.

He exhaled slowly and let go.

“You remember Pan?” Grover asked.

Percy paused. “The satyr god, right?”

“Yeah.” Grover pulled away to tug at his fingers. “He's been missing for a while. Ever since the industrial age took off. And no one knows where he is. It's the dream of every satyr to find him, so that nature can return to the way it was.”

“That your dream?”

He nodded solemnly. “You have to be a Protector first, before you can get your Searcher’s license. But I'm not like the others.” His gaze fell down. His hands sat in his lap, cupped around nothing but air. “I don't want him just so we can bring nature back to its peak.” He sighed. “We were a lot different when Pan was still around. More free. More wild. I want satyrs and nymphs - all of us to be us again!”

Percy leaned into him. “What's stopping you?”

Grover snorted. “People forgot. We were more than just Pan's disciples. We fought to protect the wild from mankind. We didn't just sit around waiting for him to tell us what to do. But nobody wants to do anything.” He scowled. “They think when Pan returns he'll fix it all and I-” He bit his lip, then shook his head. “The world has changed. And gods don't get involved like that. Not to the extent they want him to. It's not in their nature. But if he comes back then maybe…”

He faced Percy. His eyes were watery, darkening the already dark brown of his eyes into shots of black. The welled tears glistened ever so slightly. Like the night sky, free of pollution.

His lips wobbled into a gentle smile. “But that's why I'm not afraid. You’re like nature at its purest form - chaotic, wild, unburdened.”

Normally those words wouldn't hit Percy as compliments. Insults, degradation - things that would deflate him and make his mom frown. But Grover sounded so earnest, his heart swelled.

“You can't tell, but I can feel it.” He swung his arm over Percy's shoulders and tugged him in close. “Your demigod essence, this sense of the wild that I've been searching for my whole life.” He gestured loosely. “Even the Demeter kids don't have that. Their mom is all agriculture and farming and that's great and all, but it's not pure nature, it's not the wild.” He squeezed Percy's shoulder as best he could with one hand. “You remind me of home, Percy.”

The frog Percy hadn't noticed in his throat jumped out with a burst sob-laugh. He tried to tile away, but Grover just tugged him close, bringing around his other arm to keep Percy pinned. Nonetheless his hold was fairly loose, like Percy was a stray cat he didn't want scratching him if he felt like running.

Or like he knew that Percy was the ocean through and through, unwilling to be contained, wanting to flow wherever he saw fit.

Percy practically crawled into his lap, sniffling into Grover's shoulder. Warm hands stroked up and down his back. He laughed quietly - a half-distressed noise marrying the sound, but managed a breathy wheeze of, “You remind me of home too.”

Grover kissed the top of his head. For the first time since arriving, he shattered. All his twisted up emotions committed out in a tidal wave of tears and broken gasps. All the while Grover held him. As tight as Percy clung to him, he didn't complain. Just held on even tighter. Wetness from Grover's own tears smeared across Percy's skin.

Ever the empathetic. Like his mom.

Percy squeezed his eyes shut. “Please don't leave without saying goodbye,” he begged in a hollow, hoarse whisper.

“I won't,” Grover promised.

They held onto each other even as tears and cries faded away. Grover kept stroking his back with both hands. Percy continued to cling.

Shoulders shaking, Percy wound the fabric of Grover's shirt over his fingers. After a few minutes of toiling silence, he whispered. “I think I'm changing.” He pressed his forehead to Grover's collarbone. “I'm scared.” He pulled back and stared into Grover's eyes. “What do I do?”

“Be my best friend,” Grover said, like it was the simplest answer in the world. And as soon as the words fell off his tongue, it did. How silly was Percy not to think of it before? “My best friend is a good person, the best kind of wild.”

“I can do that,” Percy promised. “I swear, I can do that.”

“I know,” Grover said, squeezing Percy's cheek. His thumb swiped away at a still wet tear under Percy's eye. The stroke was soft, gentle. Kind. “I believe you.”

another headcanon

imagine that (ignoring canon here) jinwoo doesn't know how to drive.

like, his mom was sick (maybe also working constantly to make ends meet) for a long time before eventually going into a coma, his dad's been gone for the past 10 years—who is suppose to teach him? granted, i don't know exactly how getting a driver's license works in South Korea, so that may ruin this whole thing, but i imagine that he can't spare the money for the multiple driver exam fees, much less a car.

i've read only the first SL light novel so far (up to the end of the Kang Taesik arc), but i found out that's it's jinho that supplies the van (which, okay, ofc he does, he's obviously wealthier than jinwoo) that jinwoo's shown driving after the first red gate incident. but where would he learn to drive if he's not really close to anyone? where would he find the time to learn?

jinwoo doesn't really need worry about transportation much when he acquires kaisel/shadow exchange. these are obviously his transportation methods of choice. but jinah doesn't have these methods at her disposal, and so she probably worries about this, too. who's going to teach her, if Oppa doesn't know and their mom is Asleep?

imagine the shenanigans. oh my god when their mom wakes up i'm going to have her teach jinwoo in my tiktok au so jinah can record the entire thing like the menace she is aslkfjalskdfjas

WEIRD HEADCANONS

WHAT THEY SMELL LIKE . Roses and either tangerine or peach, usually faintly of cigarettes underneath it. More here.

HOW THEY SLEEP . She sort of surrounds herself in pillows and then doesn't move much in her sleep at all. Pillow under each arm, under her knees, and under her head. She sleeps on her back generally, she trained herself to after hearing it's good for your body and this whole pillow setups supports your joints in order to try to do ballet for as long as possible. She's a bilateral sleeper, more on that here.

WHAT MUSIC THEY ENJOY . she likes lo-fi, bedroom hip-hop, emo, pop, some riot grrrl, and classical music. The former three she listens to mostly, classical is just for dance. Here's a playlist of some songs she likes! this is in opposition to what she likes singing -- she actually has a very light siren-y voice and likes to just sing notes and melodies without words to herself a lot.

HOW MUCH TIME THEY SPEND EVERY MORNING GETTING READY . around an hour and a half, depending. eun yoo's pretty consistent about looking her best, and she does a full skincare routine in the morning and almost always wears a full face of makeup, usually imitating a natural or light makeup style. between skincare, makeup, hair styling, and picking an outfit she has to wake up pretty early before any plans.

FAVORITE THING TO COLLECT . comics and graphic novels! she's lowkey a huge fucking nerd about these, which is generally something she keeps secret because she thinks it's kinda cringey and childish and a bit too boyish for her taste usually.

LEFT OR RIGHT HAND . left handed! although she's kinda learned to be pretty ambidextrous, she can actually write with either hand. her left-handedness really only shows when she signs, because she leads with her left.

FAVORITE SPORT . do we count ballet? we should probably count ballet. if we don't, she really likes watching ribbon gymnastics as well as ice skating. she honestly doesn't really mind any sport that involves dancing, whereas the second any type of orb gets involved she gets bored.

FAVORITE TOURISTY THING TO DO WHILE TRAVELING . never had the chance/interest to do touristy things, but if she was taken to museums she'd probably end up having a really good time; art museums especially. she'd make fun of art she didn't like, take selfies in front of what she did, and inevitably make a dance inspired by some piece or another.

FAVORITE KIND OF WEATHER . she likes an overcast warm day with a cool breeze. she also likes it fully snowing, and snowing a lot, if she doesn't have to go outside in it.

WEIRD / OBSCURE FEAR THEY HAVE . breaking an ankle. it's not an uncommon injury but it could end her ballet career. she's also petrified of causing her brother's death, which isn't an obscure fear but she's scared of it to a WAY higher level than most are; she's so terrified of causing his death that she actively avoids interacting with him so much he thinks she hates him. it is an actual phobia of her which regularly impacts how she lives her life on a daily basis.

THE ONE CARNIVAL / ARCADE GAME THEY ALWAYS WIN WITHOUT FAIL . i mean, ddr. she's incredibly active, and has amazing control over her body. any game that involves just doing something, physically, is one she's usually pretty good at once she gets a hold of the rules. also (since some arcades have them) she kills rpg games; more on that here.

your recent is. such a weird post to make. 99% of the time anime will rely on displays of characters’ cultures like their names, where they live, and the activities they partake in to show that theyre japanese rather than character designs. all of these characters are clearly meant to be japanese and its whitewashing to say otherwise just because they dont look japanese to you. plenty of asians get told they dont look asian because their features dont match up with what others perceive as “asian features” and this is super reminiscent of that. i dont see what about the names “reigen arataka” and “shou suzuki” scream white to you

i absolutely see your point! however. i think its interesting to imagine a non-japanese person (specifically a second-generation white/white&japanese immigrant) in a dominantly japanese environment + it puts an interesting spin on reigen's character with how it at the same time would alienate him in society while helping him create the image of this Incredible Psychic [more thoughts under the cut]

reigen very obviously lived his whole life in japan and recalls it sometimes (his school memories come to mind); he is familiar with the traditional clothing, food and activities, folklore, geography and such. so i do believe he has lived his whole life in japan! however, seeing how we haven't got to meet or even see or learn the name of his parents, i truly think he could be a white-with-an-asterisk dude who was born in japan. so culturally he is as japanese as it gets, but that doesnt mean he couldnt have white* parents/roots!

as for his name. 霊験灼か (reigen arataka) is actually not a traditional name, but a pun on the japanese phrase that sounds the same. so his name doesn't 'scream white to me' necessarily, but it isn't very strictly japanese either if that makes sense. even disregarding that and focusing on the possible-immigrant aspect:

first name arataka is self-explanatory, japanese (-sounding) name given to a kid who would need to integrate into the society (i am not actually sure that this name exists as neither the romanization nor the kaiju search return results besides reigen's name). and his last name reigen is not necessarily an originally-japanese surname -- it could be a katakana-zation of an english last name like Ragan or Ragen!

i also think that it would make sense to him to become a (charlatan) psychic because being white is seen as Other/Alien in the japanese society and it would add something of a mysterious prestige to his persona which would lead to more interest in his business etc. the other psychics who do psychic business in mp1OO present themselves in a pretty exotic manner (im talking hairstyle, clothes, tattoos) while reigen is just wearing a simple fucking suit and tie! and i think it would be really interesting if he had chosen to use his appearance/race to create this image of a 'professional foreigner who is very serious, competent and familiar with japanese culture/ghosts'.

i could write even more speculations re: his parents and races and heritages and just make up a whole shaky tower of headcanons but i dont really feel like researching it too long. what i will say from what i learned before falling too deep into this rabbithole: wiki lists reigen's birth year as a year of a rat. i think it's 1984 (would make him almost-thirty around when mp1OO was being published). before 1985, japan's jus sanguinis only automatically granted japanese citizenship to those who were born to a japanese father. so i think it would make sense for his father to be japanese/mixed and for his mother to be white*.

saw the other aspec ask, and i just had to pop in and say that i am yet Another person who realised i am aspec because of the rayllum fandom! their demi qualities are so dear to me, and learning/understanding the definition of ‘alterous’ (Very recently) has definitely had a positive impact on me. i appreciate this fandom so so so much!

Yoo another alterous person hell yeah!! (It was a likewise major lightbulb moment for me so I can definitely relate.) Arc 2 Rayllum reads even more demi / alterous to me than even arc 1 Rayllum did (and they really did) and I'm eating it up tbh. I dont mind the ships that are weird or out of nowhere, honestly I like to ship it too, I have limits on what kinds of ships I like, yes, but I just dont interact with them instead of disliking it(worse things have appeared in larger fandoms so im just null to it and prefer leaving it alone) .

It's Solo Leveling and it's no1 pairing is literally a crossover ship so its not like anyone is inmune to crack ships or non canon realted ships :) /

Absolutely out of nowhere. Like there wasnt even a sparing glance of this ship whatsoever and then BAM epilogue says the are dating. Confusing as hell in canon. In fandom its quite nice the ideas that pop up so— but at the same time SL is known for its out of nowhere things. (Kinda. I did think there would have been some points in Jin-Ahs life and Jin-Hos were thry could know about each other. Jin-Ho knew the phone number of the house, where he lived, Jin-Ah probably wasnt unaware completely anout Jin-Ho. Its obvious that Jin-Woo post rewind would have introduced him to the family.)

I love the idea that Jin Ah is a pro-gamer (she might have become one in the next life now that she isnt studying to be a doctor for her mom. It was always referenced just how much she loved games, and its also really cute knkwing that Jin-Ho created his own gaming company :3 so like

Headcanoning that she would always help him beta test the games and since she was well aware of what kind of games were popular, it would be cool to see her being a major help in Ahjin corp's success.

Maybe they met through games too, would be a cute AU

But yeah I dont think there is much to say with the ship mainly being wholesome and pure. I do like those kinds of sships when it comes to slice of life but in action i need more drama spiked up to an 11.

Again its not that bad of a match, a lot of people say its forced and i do agree to some extent, but then again its not a bad match, at least not fanon-wise.

Canon just always tries to pair people up with what seems to be the mantra of "perfect couple that will never fight each other so you totally dont have to worry about them breaking up" or in the more special of canon cases its "pair the hottest girl to the main character and it works! she is just a trophy wife after all :D" and JinHae does fall under that I wont lie.

And honestly, Its fine.

From SL Ragnarok I canactually see more of that love put into work and since it gives Hae-In character I have started to genuenly love the ship.

And thats a big deal for me bc I was at first a huge anti to this ship (Not to the point of hating others but I did constantly hate Cha HaeIn, and the way people elogated her to be the absolute best thing ever and her being the main love interest. I m chill with it now but boi was 2018-21 ship wars the worst)

That is until I geniuely started looking up at the content for her and reading the novel, and all I can say is

Yeah the author is a simp.

But Hae-In's character, for me, had fallen too much due to the romance aspect. They focused on her acting as a plot device for Jin-Woo to always rescue her that theve forgotten she was a character with like feelings and stuff and not just love interest.

Like she legit had all the more power to be a far more complex character even if her character revolved around Jin-Woo.

Detective Hae-In as to why Jin-Woo smells good and suddenly uncovering the whole war between the monarchs and the Rulers before anyone else? or about the system? I tell you we were robbed.

At least she got to be there for him in rough times which im happy for Jin-Woo of all people he needs it. Just as I am happy there were also more people in Jin-Woos life apart from Hae In that knew and were there for him.

As much problems as I have with it, the AUs are still fine for me.

Bc Like, fanon gives her the ability to actually express her felings over the whole situation instead of just "welp she is the hot wife now :)"

Like Ive loved the fics that go into into her thoughts of living with such a powerful being in her house, ranging from thrill to full on slice of life.

I liked the fics were she gets to have her fights.

Ive liked the reading and writting more platonic scenes with them than i have enjoyed of quite literally every other m/f ship in other fandoms.

I love how sometimes Hae-In just accepts whetever the fuck Jin-Woo is, like she is so real for that.

The ship can also work well with a lot of different themes if the roles are just purely reversed or are kept. Like they both are also quite diverse in character and I love that about them. Heck my biggest fic brainrot IS them.

Yes I want them to keep being Malewife x Girlboss that will never change in my mind.

but then there is the height difference, the god and mortal trope, the cute x unhinge, princess x knight (Hae In is the knight do not take this from me), "will always find you", soulmates, chill x chaos, black and white, (and orange was also the contrast to purple which like ??? they fit that too??), confident x internal screams, moral support and love birds, and obviously

"X character did nothing for JinWoo" My mans the sole reason the show even started, my mans tried to stop two S ranks from fighting, my mans did everything he could to understand JinWoo and the internal struggles he might be going through both as the chief of survaillance and then as a chair man (SL Ragnarok does not do him dirty in the list my mans FOUGHT for giving JinWoo a better life as well as the lives of everyone.)

"X is not powerful" Look the world if filled with too many S ranks, put those back, he is capable of dealing with S ranks, he is capable of defending himself, and there is literally nothing more dangerous than JinWoo so, even if its not romantic he does care about him so he will be fine :v.

Either way they also have a wholesome dynamic withing fandom, and with canon it was explored far better than any other relationship with Jin-Woo apart from that of his family.

its crazy how we also know SHIT about him, like JinHae again, but this one doesnt feel dependent of Jin-Woo whatsoever, hes got his life worked out before jin-Woo came into the picture, hes got his principles (somewhere more of a true neutral than morally good) and they both complement each other quite well.

I think I can also be more relaxed with this one bc its not a canon ship.

Also finding love in your 30s hits that kind of a soft spot for me, you know. And its not like it would have been an instant dating for them either, they would both seemed to be more focused on other things than themselves, like work and family. That aside, i do find it really fun just how versatile these two can be and since Goto is mainly an antagonist he does have quite a lot of room for development that can turn into good character growth if executed perfectly. Said arcs can also be good for Jin Woo since it lets him latch on to more of his kinder or humane side, as well as having a room to talk with, favorably more expirienced adults about things he doesnt know. Like legit Jin Woo could use a lot of guides through this sudden life changing shift, not just through new and more powerful fights but a drastic economic change to his daily life and how to balance it.

There are a lot of more expirienced and stronger people out there, yes, but Goto fits in there better than Liu, Christopher or Thomas who mainly look like they are ready to fight everytjing that comes their way rather than be some sort of mentor to anyone. Whereas others like Lennart dont have much interaction with him, and by the end of Jeju JinWoo has basically outcompeted the others in Korea so he might want to look for stronger international power level type partners.

it also adds a lot of flavor for me towards Jin Woos relationships with other people since we see that he will instantly kill anyone that wrongs him, and yet there would be Goto who he is dating while constantly being degrated by the man, not in a bad way really, just nagging him about doing things the wrong way in wife mode and him learning from that.

Of course it’s not all regressions, sometimes they end up as enemies or sometimes they just have a sibling-like relationship. But those things don't stop Kim Dokja from admiring the couple and hoping they’ll end up together once a new regression starts.

That’s why even with the fourth wall’s help there are still moments where Kim Dokja can’t hide his feelings. Especially when it comes to seeing the duo he loves so much, and sometimes his admiration gets the best of him during the worst times. Like for example right now.

“Kim Dokja hurry up if you don’t want to get in my way.”

“Leave Kim Dokja alone you caveman! He isn’t even bothering you. Stop being a baby and focus on the enemies on your side.”

Dokja snapped back to reality the moment Joonghyuk snapped at him again. Oh right, they were in the middle of fighting off mobs. His goal was to meet and help _____ and get them and Joonghyuk acquainted. But the moment the reader saw the two fighting back to back, he just short circuited and went on autopilot.

‘_____ has always been so kind I don’t even know why they’re with Joonghyuk. They do look good together though.’

It was the first time they’ve met but _____ is already defending Dokja and checking in on him. That made Dokja admire them more.

“Are you alright? You don’t have a scratch or anything right? I heard those monsters' fluids are quite dangerous if they come into contact with an open wound…”

From the corner of his eyes, Dokja can see the black haired protagonist have a soft look in his eyes as _____ fuss over him. The survivor is in worse shape for they had been fighting the monsters for longer but they still went ahead and checked on Dokja instead.

“I’m fine, I’m fine. What about you Joonghyuk?”

“Aish don’t mind that buff dude, he clearly has steel for body. Sadly it seems like he also has a steel for his personality.”

Though they say that, the two males can still see eyes carefully scanning Joonghyuk’s body to check for any abnormalities. With this, Dokja can’t help but chuckle a little. Their dynamic has always been like this, that’s why he can’t get tired of them.

But he suppose he has to keep his admiration in check a little.

Keeping his admiration, a more respectful term of what his doing, is harder than he thought. He can’t help it when he's finally seeing the duo’s, who recently became a couple, chemistry together.

“What do you want to eat?”

Even though Joonghyuk was grumbling when he said that, everyone in the room can see that he’ll cook anything _____ asks for. Even if they demanded a dish that can rival a 3 Michelin star restaurant.

“I’m fine with anything! Everything you cook is super delicious!”

That got the grumbling Joonghyuk to grumble further as he looked through the pantry. Though the determination of fire to impress is very evident in his eyes. _____ merely laugh at the man grumbling at their indecisiveness while saying;

Dokja bearing witness to everything once again can’t help but turn mush.

“I can’t believe this is happening right in front of my eyes. The couple that can slap everyone else at least twice in terms visuals is right before my eyes acting lovey dovey”

Not quite understanding him because he was whispering to himself, Han Sooyoung looked at him weirdly before asking to clarify what he said. After denying to saying anything, the writer started to gather her food.

“Can’t believe they’re doing this in front of my eyes, I’m out. You also better get out before you get swarmed with ants.”

With that Han Sooyoung left the table after glancing at the sweet couple one last time. Dokja can agree that the couple is very sweet. Acting as if they’re in the middle of their honeymoon despite the apocalypse. It also helped Joonghyuk’s temper, he isn’t as quiet and when he regresses back to his tendency to act solo, _____ is there to keep him in check and remind him that he isn’t alone anymore.

Despite wanting to keep the warm scene before him, Dokja knows that it’s better to leave the two alone. The two need as much privacy they can get for that’s quite hard to achieve during these times. Plus Dokja was sure he’ll only bother them by staying and watching.

As more time passes by, almost everyone from Kim Dokja’s Company can see how much the Demon King of Salvation adores the couple of the nebula. Well everyone aside from the couple in question.

Every news about the couple, Dokja is always the first one to know. Any time someone bashes the two, Dokja is there defending the couple like his life depends on it. Kim Dokja is, for the lack of better word, the biggest fanboy of not only their nebula, but probably the whole of Korea’s power couple.

“Will you stop that, I’m gonna tattle to Seolhwa if I get a bruise”

Retreating his hand quickly, Dokja didn’t even notice he was slapping Sooyoung’s shoulder while covering his mouth.

“I can see that annoying anime filter sparkle in your eyes. You look like a paparazzi”

The demon king’s mood instantly dropped at the two ganging up on him. But that doesn’t stop him from watching the playback clip of Joonghyuk and _____ fighting back to back. He can’t take his eyes off the screen.

It’s not just because he has been a fan of them from the beginning. Han Sooyoung too, despite her earlier comments, can be seen intently watching the clip. There’s really just something about the two that will draw you in, especially watching them fight.

The way they move as if they can read each other’s mind. The way one supplements what the other one is lacking. The way they move as if they’re dancing together in the middle of bloodshed.

Despite the Kim Dokja’s Company nebula already establishing Kim Dokja as their nebula’s version of Uriel, Yoo Sangah didn’t know just how deep the constellation’s admiration ran.

“Did you know what’s the most interesting thing I saw inside the library?”

“I’m scared to find out but continue…”

“There were two whole layers in one shelf that’s just dedicated about Joonghyuk and ____, and your admiration for them.”

That made the poor demon king bright red. He's pretty self-aware about his admiration, but to hear the extent of it from someone else is different. It’s more embarrassing.

Sangah chuckled after seeing the man’s flushed face. She doesn't necessarily enjoy teasing his co-worker. Rather, she enjoys short moments like this where both of them can let their guard down and just talk about anything.

But that doesn't stop her from slipping some jokes here and there about Dokja’s fanboy tendency just to see him embarrassed.

Once again, the poor shoulder’s of Han Sooyoung is the object of Kim Dokja’s harassment.

“Stop, stop. Quiet down unless you want that oaf to notice us watching and kill us instead.”

The author and writer duo are trying to discreetly the spicy scenario while hiding behind the door of the convention hall. Well, as discreetly as they can with Dokja slapping Sooyoung’s shoulder out of excitement.

Said scene the two are watching is basically Joonghyuk on the brink of snapping a poor man’s wrist. The man, who deserves whatever’s coming for him as Dokja and Sooyoung agreed earlier, was harassing _____ and kept on trying to force them to go on a date with him.

“I kept trying to tell you I have a boyfriend. You must’ve been living under a rock to not know that.”

Joonghyuk knows _____ can take care and defend themself just fine. Everyone knows just how powerful the incarnation is both in terms of power and personality. Still as their significant other, the Supreme King has a duty of protecting them. Sure he knows they like to be independent and he’ll give them that, but there are moments like this that he feels the need to step up and help.

This mindset of Joonghyuk is what keeps Dokja going. What makes Dokja think that they really are the ultimate couple.

Hence why he can’t help but slap the abyssal black flame dragon’s incarnation’s shoulder a few more times.

“Joonghyuk let’s go, that dirt isn’t worth a speck of our precious time. Plus you promised to make gelato today, I’m looking forward to that.”

Being the obedient boyfriend that he is, Yoo Joonghyuk let go of the man’s wrist the moment his significant other finished talking. Of course not without successfully breaking the said man’s wrist. Not that _____ will notice since they already went ahead knowing that Joonghyuk will follow.

“You too, don’t you know it’s rude to eavesdrop”

Dokja and Sooyoung’s heart dropped the moment black piercing eyes directly looked at them through the small crack of the door.

Having nothing to retort and with _____ waiting for him, Joonghyuk simply turned the other cheek. The last thing he heard was the two high fiving.

Kim Dokja is a calculative person. He's the one who’s always planning on what his nebula will do during scenarios. He's someone whose brain is constantly thinking of the what-ifs. Someone who knows what will happen, or has expectations of it based on his calculations.

But this, he wasn’t expecting for this to happen. Not in a million years. Not in any regression.

The resting man was caught off guard when he saw _____ come inside his room in the middle of the night with teary eyes. The same _____ who’s known for being one of the strongest incarnations. The _____ he admired and looked up to since he was young and naive. The one, aside from Joonghyuk, who helped him shape his values as he reads about them in the novel called Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World.

“Oh… I wasn’t expecting for you to be awake. I’m sorry for bothering you and for showing myself in this state. I’ll leave you to rest. I, I just wanted to check on you”

Kim Dokja knows _____. He probably knows them better than anyone, but don’t tell Joonghyuk that. So he knows well that this is the only chance he can see this side of them. Even earlier when he first officially reunited with his nebula, _____ was the one keeping everyone in line along with Sangah. They're always the one keeping a cool head in the midst of everyone losing theirs. The empathetic one but always locks their own feelings away for they think it’ll burden everyone.

“No no, don’t go. We can talk. I actually want to talk, we haven’t seen each other for a while and you were busy comforting the kids earlier.”

_____ thought about it for a moment before moving away from the door and sitting on a spare couch near Dokja’s bed. The decision to stay made Dokja smile. There weren’t many chances to talk to _____, especially with Joonghyuk around. So this was a very rare occasion.

“How are you? Have you been well while I was away?”

An awkward way to start but he couldn’t think of anything else.

“Despite what you think, your nebula can hold itself up even without you. Everyone is fine, they’ve been doing more individual training these days.”

“But I’m asking about you, how have YOU been?”

That made the incarnation in front of him silent. Most of the time he’ll let them get away with reporting the nebula’s status instead of how they’ve been doing, but not this time.

“I, I think I’ve been good too. I have Joonghyuk and the others with me so I wasn’t suffering alone.

Still, I was scared, you know. Sacred that you won’t come back to us, or when you do you’re no longer alive or something.”

Despite wiping the tears building up earlier, another batch is starting to build itself up again on the corner of _____’s eyes.

Other people were right, midnight is really the time that makes people spill their heart out. As Dokja can see, that's what _____ is currently doing.

“I know I haven’t said it nor have I openly shown it enough, but I admire you so much Dokja. I don’t think I can be as brave and strong as you. Not to put you on a pedestal but I’m always trying to follow your footsteps

‘Oh, what would Dokja do in this scenario’ ‘If Dokja was here would it be like this?’

Those kinds of thoughts always run inside my head whenever I’m facing any kind of situation.

So imagine how scared I am whenever I see you put other people first to the point of you being on the brink of death several times.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling you this to put more pressure on you. It’s embarrassing for me to tell someone just how much I like them. But I have to tell you this. Tell you how much you inspire me and the others. How much you scare us.

Because if I do then maybe you’ll take us into consideration next time.

Kim Dokja, you’re selfish you know. The only visual in your head is the betterment of the nebula. You keep thinking of us so much that you don’t see yourself in that circle despite your name being the nebula’s name.

And that’s what makes me hate you.

I love you, you’re like a brother to me. You’re the first one who gave me hope when you showed up in that dingy building to help me. You’re the reason why I met Joonghyuk and these other amazing people.

You said all of this was inside a novel you’ve read. Yet despite knowing what will happen, how each scenario will play out, you still put our well being above yours. Us, the people who were mere fiction, who were alive because someone typed us on a computer and gave life to us.

And I hate you for it, I hate how you don’t consider yourself more. I hate how you look at everyone as if you were an outsider. I hate how you probably think that way too despite you being the reason for all of us being where we are today.

Kim Dokja I hate you so much that no words can justify how much I hate you.”

The Watcher of Light and Darkness could only listen and take the weak punches _____ throws his way. Despite saying many times they hate him, their voice was still full of love and concern.

That’s why he can’t do anything. _____ made things clear to him.

He can’t even say sorry because those words wouldn’t be enough.

He didn’t even think that a time where _____, the _____, would come up to him and tell him that they admire him. Admiring was his thing. As a reader, he was always the one watching and applauding everyone else.

Dokja doesn’t know what to do nor how to react. He can only try and comfort the incarnation beside him to the best of his abilities, and that’s what he did. They had a long talk about anything and everything that night. What happened while they were separated, new trends, the kids’ going through their stubborn phase; just anything.

Soon, the two were more comfortable and traces of tears were gone as if it didn’t even happen in the first place.

The two talked until they fell asleep beside each other with the moonlight illuminating the room and the four main constellations from Dokja’s channel watching over them while holding their peace.
