Jan 1 - Anatomy
This is the year of actually putting effort into improving my art fundamentals! At least twice a week, every week, I'm going to work on one of 6 principles - anatomy, perspective, form, light, color, and composition.
Today was anatomy and the challenge of the head from the side. I've never been great at this, but Morpho Simplified Forms by Michel Lauricella was a great help with identifying basic things to get me started with keeping things feeling right. I even found some things of my own, like the importance of the skin at the bottom of the jaw.
I'll be putting all of these under the tag 2024ArtFundamentals

“when i was a kid, i would get these headaches, and i went to the doctor, and they said that i needed glasses. i didn’t understand that, it didn’t make sense to me, because i could see fine. and then i get the glasses, and i put them on, and i’m in the car on the way home, and suddenly i yell—because the big green blobs that i had been staring at my whole life, they weren’t big green blobs. they were leaves on trees. i could see the leaves. and i didn’t even know i was missing the leaves. i didn’t even know leaves existed, and then… leaves!” —dr erica hahn on realising you’re gay, grey’s anatomy

Just gotta say I’m absolutely delighted you don’t give ghost chiseled ass abs, that man needs all the strength he can get and the meat on his bones feels much more realistic/healthy than him having vanity esc muscles :)
