You guys know fancasting exists because the fancasted actors/whatever’s “acting” is in my head only right? It’s not even a matter of acting, it’s a matter of looks and similarity to the description in the books. It really has nothing to do with the series inspired by the books.
#I’m just saying this cause I’ve read some notes under the fancast gif set of Theon#and there were people that went like#who’s this bad imitation of Alfie Allen#or#why do you need a fancast if the actor already did an amazing job?#okay first of all YES Alfie Allen was amazing like seriously#he’s so amazing he managed to bring his own justice to a character in spite of d&d’s bad writing#and yes I do get that maybe if you watched the show first (but even if you didn’t it doesn’t change a thing) you still see him as Theon#cause that’s fine too I mean that is YOUR imagination while reading the book or fics#but if while I’m reading I see a character described as dark and therefore I fancast someone who LOOKS and only LOOKS#like the actual book description it doesn’t mean I’m saying the actor who played it is a bad actor especially if that actor is ALFIE ALLEN#I do admit I hate Kit as Jon cause imo not only he didn’t look like Jon but he didn’t even understand how Jon was like#blame it on the bad writing or whatever I just don’t see him as Jon#while Alfie DID understand Theon#but if while I’m reading I tend and WANT TO imagine the characters as they’re described I CAN#cause the BOOK and the SHOW are two whole different things.#I ADORE Alfie he was the best actor in the series but he’s not my Theon fancast (he used to be but now not anymore)#cause he doesn’t LOOK like Theon but yes I get it he IS Theon#but since I’m no producer and I don’t work in movies or tv series and it’s my imagination only I’m talking about#let me imagine Theon to be how the fuck I like.

To lay him to rest.
Tumblr media
(This was requested)
Jason Todd x antiheroine!reader. (Past Rick Flag x reader)
Word-1207
Warnings- violence, mentions of blood, past character death, gun uses, angst, the suicide squad spoilers, brief mention of alcohol.
A/n- this is dedicated to @sillysunshinesstuff who wanted to see some softer more human Jason Todd. This beta read so sorry for any grammar and spelling mistakes. Likes are always welcomed and reblogs are welcomed too (if you want to.)
There was nothing that filled your body with so much spite. So much hate.
Peacemaker. What a fucking name. A lie built on delusions of grandeur. A man warped by his own ideas of justice. A Stone cold murderer. Christopher smith was as good as dead and nothing was going to stop you from killing him.
News about ricks death got around fast. From The sweet rat girl to Harley, from Haley to you. Stabbed in the heart they said. Stabbed in the heart for trying to to the right thing. When he died he took a little bit of your soul with him.
You felt lonely.
You felt vengeful.
The night time air of the abandoned dock bites at your skin. The fight was taking too long- Something about Waller needing you in. she sent the wrong man to get you. Chris evaded everyone of your moves, he managed to slam you against an empty cargo box. You yelped in pain as you pushed him off you.
He grabbed you in a chokehold and squeezed your neck tight.
“Look, I can either bring you into waller dead or alive. Your choice.”
“I don’t care!” You jammed your elbow into his rib and he let you go. You growled as you lunged towards him.
You land A hard hit on the right side of his body knocking him to the floor with a hard grunt. You straddle his waist and continued your assault.
“This is for my love you sick bastard!” each word was punctuated with a strike to the face. Peacemaker started to cough up blood. A worried smirked graced his face only making you hit back harder.
“ I was only trying to do what was right.”
“No, " tears began to fall dampening your cheeks, ” you did as you were told with disregard to the lives you put at risk. You shouldn't be alive! You took him away from me!” you screamed in pain. Taking your gun from its holster you placed the barrel against his forehead.
“Goodbye peacemaker. Rot in hell.”
“(Y/N) No!”
You recognise that digitised voice from a mile away. You dragged Christopher by his neck, gripping it tight with the weapon still held to his skull.
“ step the fuck back Red hood." You spat.
“Don’t shoot hi-“ he didn’t get to finish his sentence.
“YOU FUCKING HYPOCRITE!” you point the gun a Jason then back at Christopher.
“Coming from the man who has a shoot first talk later policy. Tell me Red, how did it feel killing the joker?”
He went to open his mouth but he didn’t say anything so he shut it again.
“Exactly. He killed my love.”
“That wont bring him back though.”
“But how many more people will this man kill before he goes too far. I loved him Red. I loved rick and he stole him away. We were meant to settle down, have kids, grow old together but no.”
Memories flooded your mind.
it was a night like this one. The open bar was crowded and cramped but Jason and you had a place for yourself.
“Ok ok, what is Captain America really like?” Jason giggled with glee.
“Sam or Steve?” You asked.
“Sam Wilson.” He blushed. Really hard.
“He’s amazing and he would like you.” You giggle fondly at the mentioned of your captain.
It was rare to see Jason this relax- maybe it was the alcohol or maybe the conversation - either way It was rare that you both had a break at the same time.
No patrol, No missions just a night of dancing and endless shots.
Jason shook your shoulders erratically, ”Hey look Who it is."
Your head shot up. it was him.
Colonel Flag.
Jason introduced you to Colonel Flag a few months ago after being on a mission with the lesser known task force z.
Your first introduction was brief and professional, he only knew you as code name: Poison Oak , but as you met him your heart stopped in its place. You swore you’ve never met a man more handsome in your life. Tall, rugged, dark blue eyes. Everything about him screamed perfect.
Jason snapped you out of your train of thought, “Are you going to talk to him or undress him with your eyes?”
You rolled your eyes and pulled at the pale patch of his hair earning you a Yelp from Jason.
You waltz over to him with your cocktail in hand.
“Do you come here often Colonel Flag?”
“Well only after near death experiences Poison Oak.” He chuckled taking a swig of his own drink.
“It’s (Y/N).” You said quickly.
“Thats a pretty name for a pretty gal. Call me Rick.” He took your hand and gently placed a kiss on your knuckles.
Jason whooped and hollered. You both laughed.
“Lets go dancing sir.”
That was two years ago. Life changed for the both of you. From strength to strength. From every night of passion and love to every fight and tear shed. your love became stronger and stronger.
You went from mercenary to field agent, field agent to avenger. You even joined him on a few missions as Wallers go to hire.
He always joked that being an avenger must been boring if you joined the suicide squad willingly. But never once did he treat you differently. He treated you with love and respect. He was your equal and he was your love.
It never failed to make you smile.
The rain began to pour down. The pain hurts you greatly.
“ I miss him Red. It hurts so much." You cried.
Jason took of his helmet. His voice now soft and unmasked.
“I know, but shooting dick bag over there wont bring him back. Rick wouldn't want this for you. He wouldn't want to see you in pain. I don’t want to see you in pain.”
Christopher groaned out in agony.
“I used to kill for a living Red so why would I stop now?” Jason saw too much of himself in you. All his anger and all his grief. He loved you enough to not let you ruin the good thing you have now.
“Because your not that person any longer (Y/N). You’re an avenger. you do whats right. I know you can carry Rick’s legacy forward and i know He loved you to the very end. I have no doubts about it.”
He looked at you with regret. With tearful eyes.
“Please. Please come home.”
You dropped peacemakers body to the ground along with the gun and ran over to Jason and hugged him.
You began to sob uncontrollably as Jason held you close. Allowing a few stray tears to fall too. The rain baptised you, slowly washing away the blood and pain off your body.
Jason lulled you back and fourth as you cried.
After awhile you calmed down. You looked back at Peacemaker and with one last bit of spite you said, “count your days Chris.” And walk away.
You knew you couldn't bring your lover back. But as long as you had your friend you knew you could begin the process of mourning, of healing. hopefully, one day you can lay him to rest.

hihi !! are your requests open? sorry, i was looking around your blog but I couldn’t find anything ;; if so, would you be open to writing a fluffy boy next door for joshua? (svt) hope you have an amazing day <3
Joshua x (gender neutral) Reader | boy next door AU fluffy fluff:) | 3.3k words
synopsis: you’ve got a new neighbour — as you’ve been expecting for the past few months. what you didn’t expect was for you neighbour to be the most polite, kind hearted, and not to mention beautiful, man you’ve ever met. alternatively:
“when your pet dog does a better job at getting you a date than all of your friends combined.”
a/n: for my lovely bunny anon! i hope it’s to your liking and that it’s at least somewhat similar to what you had in mind:) i had a lot of fun brainstorming the ideas so i’m really hoping my writing does it justice lol
Tumblr media
You almost dropped the bag in your hand when you turned the corner to your street and saw a party going on right beside your house. You even did a double take to make sure you didn’t make the wrong turn earlier, but nope, you were on the correct street alright. And the group of people milling about didn’t seem to be planning on going anywhere, anytime soon.
It baffled you, how such a ruckus could’ve emerged within the hour that you were gone to get some groceries. Sure, you were expecting a new neighbour — the house had been on sale for the past few months — but you weren’t expecting, what, ten? Twelve? No, thirteen people? How were they planning on fitting all of those bodies into such a tiny house?
Even from afar, you could tell that they were a rowdy group, and their loud voices reached all the way to where you stood. Your stomach squirmed at the thought of having to deal with a bunch of chaotic people living right next to you for the next who-knows-how-many-years, and you took slow steps towards your own house. The old couple that lived on the other side of you had all of their blinds drawn, which was unusual of them to do, considering they loved the sunlight, and you wondered if they’ve made a noise complaint yet.
When you finally reached your own yard, the energy within the party died down a little and some of the boys cast curious glances your way while whispering and snickering to each other. You just stared back at them until one broke from the group and approached you with a bashful smile.
“Hello!” He radiated such a soft, friendly aura, your initial spite towards the group melted away and you willingly accepted his handshake.
“Hi.” You managed a tight smile. “I suppose you guys are my new neighbours?”
His eyes widened and he turned back to the others, who had already found something else to engross themselves in. “Ah... no, no.” He turned back to you and gave you a sheepish look.
“Sorry, those are my friends, they all insisted that they visit me on the day I moved. Even though they probably won’t be helping me with the actual moving.” He rolled his eyes childishly at that last part.
“I see...” You watched the group together, as they began screaming at what seemed to be a funny video on someone’s phone. Judging from your neighbour’s deadpan expression, he was just as tired of the noise as you were.
“So yeah, it’s just me that’s your neighbour, don’t worry. I’ll try to make sure that it’s not this chaotic the next time they visit. I’m Joshua by the way.”
“Y/n.” You responded, and he echoed it quietly before nodding. “And it’s not much of a problem, I don’t really mind the noise. I guess I’m just not that used to it being lively in this neighbourhood.” You gestured to the empty streets as you spoke.
Before he could respond, one of his friends loudly called out his name and Joshua gave you another apologetic look.
“I probably shouldn’t ignore them. I’m sorry that this introduction wasn’t the best out there, but let’s try to redo this again later.”
You bid him off with a wave and made your way into your own house as the group of boys started shouting once again. Giving them one last glance, you laughed quietly to yourself and wondered how they could possibly store that much energy into their bodies. Even just watching them goof around like that made you exhausted.
You were greeted with your own bundle of energy to deal with when your dog, Mittens, dashed towards you upon your arrival. The sound of your keys jingling never failed to catch her attention. Dropping to the floor in defeat, you let her gift you with a flurry of kisses and you returned the love with some scratches behind the ear.
“Hey, Mittens.”
She barked, and you were grateful that most of your conversations with her didn’t end up being one sided. Though you weren’t able to understand a single thing she was trying to tell you, at least it seemed like she was trying.
“We got a new neighbour today, and guess what?”
Another happy bark.
“He’s kinda cute, you know?”
=====
You saw Joshua again the next morning when you took Mittens for her daily walk. Or at least, that’s what you tried to do. The moment you stepped outside, she abruptly bounded towards him, yanking the leash straight out of your hands.
“Mittens—!” Before you could react, she had already tackled him to the ground  and was delivering her usual round of kisses, the boxes previously in his hands scattered all over the driveway. You ran up to them and quickly heaved her off the man, letting a string of apologies fall out of your mouth. As friendly as he seemed to be, you didn’t think that having your dog attack him with her love was the best way to make your first impressions.
“I’m so sorry she’s never acted this way towards anyone before I don’t know why she did it.”
Joshua laughed and dusted off his pants. “It’s alright, I take it that this is your dog?”
Lending him a hand to help pull him back up, you answered. “Yeah, her name is Mittens.”
He raised an eyebrow at the mention of her name. “Mittens?”
You pouted. “Hey! I think it’s a cute name... And it’s because she kept on stealing my mittens when I first adopted her.”
“Just curious,” He shrugged. “Y/n and Mittens... yeah, that sounds like a cute pair.”
You frantically tried to distract yourself from the blush blooming on your cheeks and remembered the boxes laying on the ground. “Right! Your boxes I’m so sorry about that too, I hope they weren’t anything that important?” The last thing you wanted to do was destroy your neighbour’s property on the second day of knowing him.
“Oh, these? They’re just my clothes, it’s all good.” He answered, dismissing the boxes with a wave.
“Thank goodness,” You let out a sigh in relief as your pet struggled in your arms, trying to go back to Joshua. “Do you need any help with moving in?”
He shook his head in a polite denial. “There’s only a few things left to bring in, I should be done in a bit, thank you though. However...”
You perked up when his voice trailed off. “Yeah?”
“I might need some help with getting over how cute Mittens is.”
You burst into a fit of laughter at his confession. “She’s usually not that friendly to new people, but she seems to like you a lot. You’re welcome to hang out with her anytime you’d like, if we’re both free. I trust you, you seem like a nice person.”
“Really? Thanks for that.” He bent down to pet Mittens and gave her a longing look. “I had to leave my own dog back home with my parents because of some vet stuff that needs to be completed, so I really appreciate it. It’s like a little reminder of him.” As he got back up, he retrieved one of the fallen boxes and gave you a smile.
“I’ll look forward to getting to know you two better then.”
=====
Over the next few weeks, you realized that the time you took Mittens out for her walks aligned with the time Joshua usually set off to work. Which was a clearly a win for your pet, who still treated him like a brand new friend every time she saw him. You weren’t complaining either, the perfect schedule meant that you got to see his gorgeous face and listen to his sweet voice every morning — a wonderful way to start your days. But you weren’t quite sure how good that was for your heart, because you were well aware that you’ve begun to fall for him.
Hard.
Once in a while, the two of you would meet up in each other’s backyards so that he could spend some time with Mittens, who would practically refuse to eat her dinner when he’s around, because she’s just that happy to play with him. These meetings also allowed you to learn more about each other, and to you, everything about him just seemed so perfect in your eyes. You learned about how he moved here to be closer to his new job, and how some of the friends he grew up with — the ones at the party — were starting up a band in the city. You learned that he played the guitar in his free time, and that he used to teach little kids at a music school. He also grew up in a very quiet town with a small family, explaining his down-to-earth, endearing personality. Honestly speaking, if you were him, you’d find it hard to not boast about all the talents you had.
As time continued to pass and your crush on him continued to grow, you found it harder and harder to look at him in the eyes when he passed by. Heck, even conversations with him had gotten more difficult, and you could barely hold one without stuttering out some barely coherent words. But being the polite man he was, Joshua never showed a single sign of annoyance towards your change in character. Which honestly, just made you fall for him even harder.
It eventually got to the point where you had no choice but to alter your schedule. If you didn’t create an opportunity to compose yourself, you swore you would literally combust in front of him. And so, you held off on walking Mittens so early in the morning, and opted to taking those walks when you got home from work instead. Though it didn’t eliminate your encounters with Joshua, you were grateful to have more time alone to think about your feelings because you had no damn clue what to do with them.
Mittens however, seemed to notice the way you’ve been avoiding the man in question, and had been sending knowing looks your way (how she does that as a dog, you don’t know, but her message is strong and clear) every time she saw Joshua outside. And on one particular day, she was adamant on getting you to see him. She didn’t stop barking at the harmless window until you joined her in the living room to check out the sight that’s been provoking her.
And of course, it was just Joshua lugging a guitar case back into his house. He must’ve returned from visiting his friends in the city, judging from the way he was dressed the slightest bit fancier than he usually did. Though his clean and casual style suited him very well, you had to admit the button down shirt he had on made him look incredibly refined. As he unlocked his door, he looked your way and sent a small wave.
Your ears burned when you realized he must’ve caught you staring from the window and you could barely muster a wave back before flopping onto the couch with a sigh.
Your dog plopped herself onto the carpet nearby, finally calm, and you glanced at her.
“You have it good Mittens... So lucky.”
She simply stared at you happily, not understanding the reason for the downcast tone in your voice. Nonetheless, you continued your miserable rambling.
“Like really, I’m so jealous. So you can express your love for him at every passing minute but I can’t? And you have permission to give him constant kisses, but not me?” You paused.
“Wait, I take that back, that sounds so stupid now that I’ve said it out loud. Of course it would be weird if I went up to him like that. I have to be a decent human being and neighbour.” You muttered into the arm draped over your face in an attempt to hide your embarrassment.
You rolled onto your side and scratched her head in an attempt to apologize for your harsh comments. Mittens gave you a small lick on your other hand in response. What am I going to do...
“Ah... I’m smitten aren’t I?”
You laid there for a good ten minutes, moping about your one sided crush and how unfortunate it would be if you did confess to him, only to get rejected. You’d still be forced to face him pretty much every single day, being neighbours and all, wouldn’t you? Oh how awkward that situation would be. You let out a long groan until you felt a nip at your fingers.
“Ow!” You frowned at your pet who playfully growled back. “What was that for?”
She scurried toward the front door and once again, barked at you endlessly until you hefted yourself into a sitting position on the couch. “What is it?”
She began scratching at the door — an act that she knew you didn’t really appreciate. You thought the two of you had already reached a mutual agreement to have her use other methods to announce when she wanted to be let out.
Then it hit you.
She’s doing this on purpose isn’t she?
You sighed, not even bothering to fight her antics, and got up to open to door. “You want to be let out? Is that it?”
She let out a joyous bark the moment she was free, and dashed towards the other houses across the street.
“Hey!”
In a rush, you hastily slipped on your shoes to catch up to your runaway pet. Your stomach churned with worry, what if she messed up someone else’s property and got you into trouble? Or even worse, what if she got herself into trouble? As empty as the streets usually were, you couldn’t bear the thought of her getting injured.
“Mittens! Come back here!” You desperately called.
And she did.
Your dog returned to you with a happy smile on her face, as if her only motive was to lure you out of the house and into the bitterly cold wind. You didn’t even get to even spit out a lecture about her dangerous behaviour before she was on the run again, and this time, she made a beeline to Joshua’s backyard. If any of the other houses were looking out their windows that day, they must’ve thought it was quite silly to see their grown neighbour desperately chasing after their energetic dog, but you didn’t care. She was clearly up to no good, and you had to put a stop to that immediately.
The door to the backyard was left wide open that day, and she took full advantage of that, slipping easily into his property. You just stood there, mouth gaping at the audacity your pet had to pull yet anotherstunt, and she simply stopped in her tracks to smile at you in the safety of his garden. With dumfounded steps, you made your way towards her and hesitated before entering. As much as you wanted to snatch your dog and flee back into your home as quickly as possible, you didn’t want to enter his yard without permission. What if he happened to see you randomly lingering in his backyard? He’d most likely understand your reasoning behind it, but you wouldn’t be able to stand the embarrassment that was sure to come with the confrontation. After taking a moment to weigh your options, you decided it was best to try and coax her out of there without actually entering. You even considered offering extra treats for a week, despite her bad behaviour.
Before you could even utter out a single word, Mittens began nudging the wooden door with her body, and a strong gust of wind completed the task, shutting (and ultimately locking) the door in front of you.
All alone, you almost screamed out loud at all the unfortunate events that just had to happen to you. It felt as if everything really was scripted by someone else, and you were the unlucky protagonist who had to deal with it. The only option you had now was to get Joshua to help you out, or else Mittens would either A) hang out in his backyard until she gets noticed or B) dig her way through into someone else’s yard. You definitely didn’t want to risk having to deal with the latter, so you begrudgingly made your way to your lovely neighbour’s door to finally give in into Mittens’ plan. Letting out a sight, you tried to compose yourself before ringing the doorbell. You certainly weren’t in the ideal state to present yourself with, but you had no other choice.
It took about a minute before you heard some shuffling on the other side, and the door opened to reveal a sinfully good looking Joshua. He looked as if he had just gotten out of the shower, with his damp hair hanging over his eyes, small towel wrapped around his neck, and loose fitting t-shirt that exposed way too much skin for your own good. Stray water droplets still ran down his face and he wiped them away before greeting you with that goddamn cute smile.
“Hi y/n! Sorry that took a while, just got out of the shower.” He gestured to his appearance and you merely nodded, at a loss for words. “What brings you here?”
Tearing your eyes away from him, you stared at the fuzzy pink carpet at his front door instead, and reminded yourself of the reason why you were talking to him in the first place.
“Ok, so believe it or not, Mittens was being sneaky as usual—,” He interrupted your sentence with a small chuckle. “—and she somehow made her way into your backyard and shut the door on me before I could do anything about it.”
His expression morphed from understanding to astonishment. “She really did that? So like, you’re telling me she’s in my backyard right now?”
“Well, hopefully, she’s still in your backyard and hasn’t run off yet. It’s almost as if she’s trying to play games with me, I can’t with this dog.” You muttered, and Joshua gently patted your shoulder in consolation.
“No worries, I’ll go check right now and if she’s there, I’ll let her out through the backyard.”
When you nodded in agreement to his idea, he shut the door with a soft click and you anxiously paced the front yard, waiting for the arrival of Joshua, and hopefully Mittens in tow. It took a while — much longer than you thought it should’ve taken, but you also knew just how difficult she could be, so you waited it out patiently and hoped for the best.
After what felt like eternity, the backyard door opened again and Mittens came bounding into your arms, tackling you the same way she did to your neighbour when she first met him. Shouting a quick “Thanks!” at Joshua underneath all the fur you were buried in, he simply sent you a small thumbs up before disappearing behind the fence. It a bit odd that he left so quickly without a word, but you quickly dismissed the thought to turn your attention back to the happy troublemaker.
As you lightly scolded your pet for pulling off a stunt like that, you noticed something unusual dangling from her collar and gently took it into your hands.
It was a small guitar keychain with a piece of paper taped to it, definitely not something that you owned. And from the way it was attached, it was obvious that it didn’t accidentally cling onto the collar in the midst of her adventure. Someone had put it there.
Taking it off, you curiously unfolded the paper to read a beautifully handwritten note.
Hey y/n!
Ever since I moved in, I’ve been having a great time getting to know you and such. I’ve learned that you’re a wonderful friend and neighbour:)
I feel like Mittens is trying to scheme up something here haha, maybe she knows more about life than we both do? Things can work out in pretty funny ways. Anyways, I can’t just let her do all the work so... How about we grab a cup of coffee this weekend, if you’re free? My number’s on the other side of this so let me know:)
— Joshua ♡
Burying your face into your hands, you gushed at the note and gave your loving canine a big hug.
“Ok Mittens, I’ll have to thank you for this one.” You whispered, unable to wipe the stupid smile off your face.
=====
i’m sorry if the plot felt a little rushed askhfddkjgf if i continued rereading this i think i would’ve ended up making it worse.
but despite that, it was still written with love, so i hope you enjoyed it! ♡

Hi !! I was wondering if you had any theatre!AU fics to recommend ?? I’ve read Cue Love, Go and a couple others but my theatre/drama addicted soul can’t seem to get enough ! Your blog is amazing, I do hope it isn’t pressuring you and that you can find enough time to take care of yourself, your mental health and your private life while holding it ! Thanks a lot for what you do, Have a nice day !
You are so kind! Receiving kind asks is never an annoyance. Even if the Librarian doesn't always have fics that match up with an ask, bringing in more asks just presents more options for rec lists, so thank you!
Hopefully, you’ll like some of the fics below that all feature acting or stage performance of some kind. Have a nice day!

sanjay dutt?
Why I like them: This is a bit tough, not because there are no reasons to like him lol, but because there are multiple reasons to like him. Actually, what I feel for this guy is immense love, the kind of love that I cannot explain, just something that I feel very strongly, but anyway let me put this into words.
Sanjay Dutt is someone who has a very endearing inner core. He basically seems like a child underneath a big 6 feet body, and this much I can decipher just by watching him perform or watching him offscreen. His eyes are the windows to his soul, and they reflect nothing but beauty, his smile is one of the most cute, genuine and childlike smile I have ever seen.
God bless this laughter!

Another trait that I admire about him is his honesty, he is not afraid of judgement, he says it like it is, and says it like a boss. Openly confessing to doing all the drugs in the book or confessing to sleeping with 308 women are not at all easy things to confess.
And might I add that most people I know are forgiving towards all these confessions, because at the end of the day he is Sanjay Dutt, and he will be loved, regardless of what he says, he has a hypnotising charm, once you love him you cannot stop.
Sanjay Dutt is not politically correct, he never has been, and he never can be, that is why his interviews are intriguing and fun. We are all like Anushka’s character in Sanju, intrigued with the honesty and impressed with the personality.
Sanjay Dutt is someone who has amazing amount of mental strength. If anyone else was in his position he would probably be in deep post-traumatic stress. However this guy is made out of steel, in spite of it all he managed to have a good career and a good life. Kudos to the resilience. Kudos to the person.
Tumblr media
Instead of crying about all the trauma, he bounced back, he forgave people, and continued to be the loving and jovial person he is. There is nothing that can ever stop his zest for life.
Tumblr media
He is a brilliant actor! And I love the kind of cinema he stands for! I cannot stress this point enough! I don’t know if my words will be able to do justice to his talent! But hey let me give it a shot!
Tumblr media
Sanjay Dutt is truly a natural actor, he feels his character, nothing about his acting is ever “put on” that is exactly why all his characters, whether good or bad, are so impactful to the audience, like Hrithik once rightfully said:
“There are a very few actors who seem like they are feeling their character, and Sanjay Dutt is one of them. He scared me while we were shooting for Agneepath. I was like do you actually really hate me?”
I think Sanjay Dutt is the kind of actor who puts his soul in the character he plays, that is exactly why people like me are able to form a great connect with all his characters, you are able to feel for them deeply, because it is portrayed with a lot of soul. Like the great Nasseerudin Shah once said:
“Sanjay’s eyes can reflect real pain, unlike any other young actor. This is because Sanjay has already gone through so many experiences in life, experiences which have contributed to him being a good actor already. A good actor is one who can add to his range as he goes through various personal experiences in life. This look of pain endows Sanjay with both vulnerability and raw power on the screen.’‘
Some of his fans also do a rather amazing job at describing the vulnerability that Sanjay brings to all his roles. Exhibit this:
“The more I watch Saajan the more I am struck by how deep an insight into his soul Sanju gives us in his (at times heartbreaking) portrait of a sensitive poet. How much suffering, despair and loneliness can be seen in his eyes when he is overcome by mental anguish! In my opinion, for the understanding of Sanjay Dutt as a human being, Saajan is as important as Naam.”
I don’t think any amount of quotes can do full justice to the talent this man has, but let me just put it this way, I honestly feel every emotion he goes through in almost every performance of his, he is able to communicate so much even without saying a word, he is one of those very rare actors who does not have to overdo their performance to be effective. I think he is damn underrated, and so are some of his movies, some of them are legit masterpieces. Although, a lot of his characters do have a cult following, especially the characters Raghu (Vaastav) and Munna Bhai.
However my favourite performance of his is quite underrated, and that would be of Inayat Khan from Mission Kashmir.
Tumblr media
This movie is amazing and deserves a lot more credit then it gets. Sanjay Dutt’s acting in it is terrific, his performance in this movie always moves me to tears. Not once does Sanjay Dutt’s acting  gets “dramatic” but it is still so impactful. He doesn’t say much yet his eyes have so much to say. His random outbursts of sadness, anger and anguish is something that is to watch out for. And like his every performance he puts a lot of himself in the character. Inayat Khan is not perfect, but he has a good soul, a heart that is in the right place. Inayat Khan is most of the time full of strength and is the protector, however that does not mean he is not capable of crying like a baby when it hurts way too much. Honestly I see a lot of Sanjay Dutt in this character, it is a character that was meant to be played by him. Sanjay Dutt is a potent mixture of vulnerability and strength and so is Inayat Khan, and that is exactly why the character comes alive, the character feels very real and it moves you at every moment. The character is portrayed brilliantly, and even though Sanjay Dutt did win some awards for it, I do not think this movie and his acting in it got it’s credit. This movie is ahead of it’s time and is an underrated gem. It makes for a splendid watch. Too bad it came at a time when romances and comedies were the “in thing.”
He is extremely Humble and Passionate:
Sanjay Dutt was no.1 in Bollywood when he got arrested in a very controversial case, just when everything was finally looking up for him it all went completely downhill. After showing support, many producers and directors decided against casting Sanjay Dutt in their movies. From being no.1 and to having all the success that he deserved, his career went to a minus due to a huge controversy.
Not only this, but for 1.5 years he stayed locked up in terrible conditions. If this happened to any other actor they would have collapsed, nothing is more important to a Bollywood actor than success and their ego, this sudden rejection after massive success is not an easy pill to swallow, especially not for a narcissist. Thankfully Sanjay Dutt is not one. He came out, did whatever work he got and made his way up again.
And he did not work hard or work in a zillion movies afterwards to prove a point, but just because he believed in doing his work with love and dedication, nothing less and nothing more. He did his karma and didn’t care for the results, and that is the kind of passion for work  and humbleness that everyone should aspire to have.
as Mahesh Bhatt once said:“One of the things I loved about working with him was the relief of finding an actor who is not narcissistic. I remember thinking during Naam: This guy doesn’t give a damn about how he looks on screen, he leaves it to the cameraman and just goes and does what he’s supposed to. And this in an industry where men (and macho men, not just the pretty boys) go to huge lengths to control how they look on screen — lighting, best profile, best angle — spend hours, like women, in front of their mirrors before they give a shot. Not Sanju. It was a relief to find a male who was not in awe of his own physical form. I don’t think I’ve found an actor who fits that bill in all my life.”
Why I don’t:  He doesn’t know how to sell himself.
Favorite film/scene:
If I have to choose one scene, it would be the scene in Mission Kashmir in which Inayat khan gets furious with his wife. Inayat Khan is a person who has always been extremely supportive towards his wife and clearly loves her a lot. Hence the anger that he has towards his wife in that scene is more about the hurt he feels, as he feels betrayed by someone who is very close to him. I think after suffering so much in life, this angry outburst sums up the hurt and despair he has been going through for so many years. Even though he may be in the wrong here, the outburst seems so straight from the heart, and is so raw that you cannot help but feel bad for him. I think that is a mark of a great performance. Sanjay Dutt’s characters are never politically correct, but because his emotions are so raw and are so honest, you cannot help but just root for him, and see things from his perspective. I mean he even made one feel bad for his character in Khalnayak, even though he was completely in the wrong throughout, again I empathised the most with his character in that film when he has an angry outburst regarding his Mother. Sanjay Dutt’s angry outburst in most movies are about him portraying an explicable amount of sadness and frustration, and I look forward to such scenes of his. His anger displays his vulnerability, and that makes for a great watch.
Favourite line: “Mujhe jo iys desh se mohabbat hai, woh kisi IS officer ki mothaj nahin” (Mission Kashmir). I also love the song he has sung for his movie ZINDA. The song is called “Kabhi Muskurake” and that song kind of sums up his life.
Favourite outfit: He looks hot in everything he wears, I am quite a fan of his late 80s and 90s fashion though, the beautiful long hair, a nice white shirt, and a nice pair of jeans on his tall legs is always a winner!
Tumblr media
OTP:Non-romantic definitely him and Govinda. They are a laugh riot, they have created some of the most epic comedies together!
Tumblr media
OTP: Sanju has shared great chemistry with everyone, but I think I will only ship him with me! LOL
Unpopular opinion: Sanju is mainly known for his intense action dramas or comedies, however I feel he is extremely underrated as a romantic hero. I think Sanjay Dutt always shares amazing chemistry with his female costars. I think his height and big broad shoulders make him look very attractive, and to add to that he has this cute child like innocent face to go with it. He is like every woman’s dream man. I think he is very underused as a romantic hero. Great love stories could be made with the intensity he has. I love when he hugs his heroines, he always closes his eyes while doing so, it is very cute.
A wish for them: Do more great movies
An oh-god-please-don’t-ever-happen for them: Don’t get caught in any controversy again. Please stay safe and happy. I cannot see you suffer anymore.
5 words to best describe them: Honest, Passionate, Innocent, Sexy and Beautiful.
My nickname for them: Sanju

Stardust discussion: Why Cameo is my fav boy and why Judgement is the best arc
It’s no secret as to who my favorite Stand user, villain, and general minor character is in Stardust Crusaders. I’ve never really gone into why I have this opinion up to this point, and hopefully, my brain is awake enough to tell you all why I personally think Judgement was the best arc in Stardust Crusaders. (and why I hate the OVA for removing it)
Tumblr media
Firstly, I should start off with my favorite arcs in SDC, in order and in my own opinion.
Judgement
Justice
Horus
Emperor & Hanged Man
No, I’m not going to put Dio’s World in that ranking because it’s cheating.
From there it’s probably a tie for fifth place with a few great episodes, but do you notice a theme with all four of those episodes?
They all involve character growth, change, and revenge. Out of all the characters in Stardust Crusaders, Polnareff is the one that experiences the most of all of these. Heck, some people would argue that he’s actually the main character of Part 3 instead of Jotaro because of this.
He’s lost his sister and got revenge on J. Geil, but at the cost of seemingly losing Avdol, and the guilt eats him alive that Polnareff can’t bring either of them back. What better way to break this poor man’s soul even more than to have your classic Monkey’s Paw scenario?
Enter Judgement, a Stand which posed itself as a genie in a lamp, saying that in exchange for being freed, it would grant Polnareff’s deepest desires. The first wish was to see if Judgement was the real deal, and the last two, Polnareff thought long and hard about, before making his decision.
He had a chance to bring them back, so he took it, unaware of how this tale normally goes. Polnareff wishes for not only his sister Sherry, but his dear friend Avdol to be brought back to life, for their deaths were unjust. Of course, given the actual nature of Judgement, he “revives” them as bloodthirsty ghouls that need to feast upon Polnareff’s flesh in order to live.
Seeing Sherry stripped naked, most likely from the state of her death at J. Geil’s hands was pretty damn crushing, the fact that it’s fake aside and you can only imagine how Polnareff feels. As the two fakes begin to try devouring him, Polnareff is left blaming himself, saying he deserved this for all the pain they were going through. Judgement may have revealed itself as a Stand, but Polnareff’s morale was too damaged.
It’s at this point the real Avdol, alive the entire time and having faked his death, appears to eliminate his doppelganger. Polnareff snaps out of his despair, finally fights back against the fake, as heart-breaking as it is to kill something that looks like her.
Now with all of that information, let me ask you, did any other Stand user in Part 3 manage to damage someone this much, emotionally? Because I can’t think of anyone who did, besides maybe J. Geil, but even he didn’t have this power.
And you know what? Polnareff didn’t forget what happened either, because Judgement makes a cameo (hah) in Part 5.
Tumblr media
In his dying breath, he remembered how Judgement tormented him. Neither J. Geil nor Vanilla Ice got that treatment, despite the huge impact those two had on the story of Stardust Crusaders. Instead, it was Judgement/Cameo who stuck out in Polnareff’s memories.
That’s how much more emotionally damaging the incident was for Polnareff.
And that’s what makes Judgement/Cameo’s defeat so fucking satisfying. Magician’s Red burns the enemy Stand, even destroying its eye, all while giving out the most cruel wishes against Cameo before Judgement retreats. They find where Cameo is hiding, and well…
Tumblr media
Dear god, this fucking scene. I lose my shit every time.
Not only do they humiliate Cameo by putting random crap in his breathing straw but… yeah, that too. It’s so amazing because before this, Avdol was the calm and reasonable one. Here he is, literally pissing away and laughing at the expense of the Stand user that emotionally wrecked poor Polnareff. (who just feels awkward about the whole thing)
Now most dudes in JoJo are like, hot. Steely Dan, Rubber Soul, Hol Horse, N’Doul, Vanilla Ice, the D’Arby brothers, DIO himself, they’re all attractive.
But then you have Cameo, the user of Judgement, finally revealed, and-
Tumblr media
Look at this disaster. Partly bald on the top of his head, swollen and buff, wearing goggles while he’s underground??
He’s a mess, and I absolutely love it. He doesn’t look anything like what I expected given some of the past Stand users. 10/10.
This dude was so cocky and charismatic when he was controlling Judgement (unless the Stand has a personality of its own), showing so much flair and giving Polnareff an “are you serious dude” look a few times. Judgement shouts with a powerful “HAIL 2 U” as its catchphrase and taunts Polnareff over his own undoing.
But when Cameo is finally caught, cornered with his Stand? He cowers and begs to be forgiven, shortly before Avdol says his Magician’s Red forgives no one.
Tumblr media
I absolutely love Cameo. His personality is great, his comical end is the best comeuppance of Part 3 (next to the Steely Dan beatdown), his Stand is pretty damn cool, and the arc is just my favorite all-around. He’s so despicable, but I can’t hate him, which is kinda weird I’m sure.
And I hate the Stardust Crusaders OVA for removing it. Instead what happens is, Avdol just comes back and Polnareff doesn’t have his emotional moment of fighting images of both Avdol and his sister. It feels like such a spit in the face. I already had reasons to dislike the OVA and this was just the cherry on top.
I dunno where else I can go on about this. I feel like I’ve covered just about everything I love here.
I see a lot of appreciation for the likes of the D’Arby brothers or Steely Dan, but I don’t see it nearly enough for Cameo who left such an impression in spite of his little appearances.
I’m hoping other people can see my reasoning because if I’m being honest right now? Cameo is pretty underrated (in the English fandom at least), and I think he deserves more recognition for his role in Stardust Crusaders.

Phantoms and Mirages Commentary, Part 2
(Part 1 here)
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 11
Simon hadn’t expected the phrase ‘how you say’ to be uttered by a foreigner outside of fiction, but there it was.
HAHAHAAA. Now that’s what I call good foreshadowing! I also found this sentence rather interesting the first time around because I was, in fact, reading a work of fiction. But also, I thought to myself “hmm… you know, sometimes stereotypes/clichés can be echoed in reality.” I found it quite interesting that the text chose to comment on the choice of words like this (obviously not knowing the truth of Domestique’s grasp of English), and it managed to make me go “well I suppose it could happen?” And just kind of, accept it as an occurrence that really could happen in real life, albeit not often, and certainly not as often as fiction likes to suggest.
It was like a sentence that contained a lampshade hanging, a touch of self-awareness in that this is a fictional story, and something that encouraged me to think how it would be for me to hear a non-native English speaker say this IRL all in one. If I did hear a foreigner say “how you say” (assuming that their English was extremely basic to the extent that they’d struggle to really say anything), I really would not give it too much thought, after all. I’m pretty sure I have heard “how to say” used before IRL in the same manner.
The text saying “it’s weird to hear this said outside of fiction” is a double-edged sword going, “…and this is another fictional instance to add to the list, reiterating this fact” but also “in the context of the writing and the universe, I encourage you to think that this is a “real” instance within the story”.
And then the lampshade hanging actually becomes foreshadowing in retrospect, and ACTUALLY reiterates the idea that it’s a stereotypical type of foreigner-talk not really seen in real life – a go-to for someone faking a lack of English. So much invoked and going on here just in this really brief sentence/moment…
This story, with its later reveal, goes, “actually, we’re not going to have a foreigner talk in an extremely stereotyped way, EVEN if this fact is drawn attention to!”
He remembered the imposter questioning him about his sexuality. At first, he had insisted that it didn’t matter- that it could be whatever the imposter wanted it to be, because he hadn’t ever acted on it.
Man, back when I made this post, I was not even up to this part yet! I didn’t realise the text itself would bring it up so directly. Of course, you have Blackquill earlier going “if Bobby is gay, the phantom must have also known that Bobby is gay”, but I didn’t realise at that time it had actually been a direct question type deal as my post had joked. (Because, for example, if Bobby was open about being gay it could have been overheard mentioned in conversation by the phantom, or if Bobby had previous relationships that the phantom knew about, things like that, since I didn’t have the Full Picture earlier on in the story and for all I knew at that time, Bobby had been openly gay.) So, this small moment actually makes my joke post totally redundant from the “the phantom has to ask Bobby his sexual preferences” angle. XD. But, in fact, this is actually a recurring theme that happened to me as I read these fics. As the series went onwards, I found more and more that it didn’t matter how I joked, the jokes were being rendered totally redundant by the actual source material. I couldn’t believe it – it was amazing and I loved it. I tried to JOKE but the jokes were becoming REAL and often intertwoven with the very core of the fic’s narrative. At a certain point, I just gave up and stopped joking, because I realised it seemed there was essentially nothing I could say or do that the series wasn’t prepared to take up with absolute seriousness and execute, often in a brilliant manner (or include as a joke of its own). I realised that I kinda just had to “shut up and keep reading”, as it were. You were always two steps ahead.
Even if you go back to the very first chapter, which for the most part is very gloomy and depressing, but you still have the phantom interrogating Bobby as to whether he’s “a cat or a dog person”. This exact hypothetical occurrence has been subject to joke posts. Naturally, because it’s such a minor and inconsequential detail, and it’s a lighthearted topic. Now, I know, that the phantom would still very much (feel the) need to know the answer to those sorts of things anyway. You would think they would rely on observation, eavesdropping, approaching Bobby through a different persona to get the answers, etc, and yes, in your fic he does in fact do all of those things in addition to interrogation and questioning. I didn’t find him throwing out the question to Bobby at the start of the fic particularly realistic, but then again, there’s likely hundreds of small inconsequential details he found out through alternative methods, and these were just leftover questions that he still wanted answers to. At the time I started the fic, I just accepted it despite my scepticism because of willing suspension of disbelief and the fact that it’s kinda funny(?). Like, you have this super serious scene detailing a truly awful situation that Bobby is in, but the phantom being like “are you a cat or a dog person???” has an inherent ability to invoke some kind of amusement. (Although mind you, I was too busy focusing on Bobby’s REALLY sucky situation to be truly amused at the time). Back then, I chose to overlook the “realism” aspect, not least because I liked the idea of him asking Bobby this, but now, I can fully accept it because your writing is just that good; meaning I know you’ve thought through things like that quite thoroughly already, and like I said, these were probably just leftover questions he hadn’t had time to use alternative means to get the answers to at that point, anyway.
Still, the new Fulbright had claimed that it ‘didn’t work that way’ and that he needed to know the details for certain.
Phantom: please I’m begging you don’t force me to make any decision on your behalf. I hate doing that, or at least I would if I could really feel hate. I have no real personality and therefore no real basis to pick and choose. I need a framework to work with here, dammit!
XD
You know! In spite of my initial reactions to changed!Bobby, it’s really interesting and kind of thrilling to see him be ‘cruder’ and more open. I quite liked it. It pops up a few times and it’s always fun! Unlike my reactions to things like his smoking (which, of course, he later gives up), by the time I’ve settled down to the idea of a changed Bobby, seeing him say some things that original!Bobby would never say don’t give me any real discomfort that makes me yell “YOU’RE NOT BOBBY!”. Rather, having already eased somewhat into a changed Bobby, I can accept it and in fact believe it as a solid part of his new character. Not only that, but I like the new character that has emerged after having been Randy Liberate. Bobby Fulbright reasserting himself, but it’s unrealistic that he’d be exactly the same as he was before. The smoking or complete abandonment of ideals of justice are what I balk at because it’s not really the core of who Bobby is, and that’s why these things are ultimately done away with as Bobby leaves Randy Liberate behind. But a newly acquired openness, crudeness and wariness/cynicism of justice remain, and I don’t balk at those – I accept them as part of who the new Bobby is. I love the original Bobby to bits, but I also like what the new Bobby brings too.
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 12
However, the notion remained that if indeed there was a second accomplice, that person was still out there. Perhaps aiding the Phantom even now.
Perhaps… 🤔 I wonder, where on earth could they be? 😉 “PERHAPS aiding the Phantom even NOW”, oh you must have enjoyed writing that line.
The Phantom’s second accomplice was Domestique LaSoote. The man who’d aided in the Phantom’s release was sitting right there in his living room.
THE MOMENT this is brought to light, I was immediately like “OH. Yeah, so that means that’s not Bobby – it’s the phantom. No question. Game over. Get out Blackquill, now, for your own sake, please, but in an unsuspicious way.” Or, at the very least, you literally can’t verify for sure and you should always veer on the side of caution with these things. ALWAYS assume the worst. Or, a game of trying to discreetly determine if it’s the real Bobby without tipping the phantom off if its not Bobby. Aaaaaaah.
“Fulbright, I need to speak with you for a moment. In private, if you will.”
SIMON WATCH OUT, THAT’S NOT BOBBY FULBRIGHT IT’S THE PHANTOM. OH MY GOD HE HAS AIRPODS IN HE CAN’T HEAR ME. OH MY G
SIMON WHY-
All I know is that if it was me, my immediate thought would be “if he’s the phantom’s accomplice, that would leave the phantom easily able to come in and take Bobby’s place – therefore I can’t know if that’s the real Bobby or the phantom.” But Simon acted fast and had a lot on his mind and to take in. I’m sure if he had just a little bit more time to process what he realised, he would have clued on quickly too.
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 13
Okay, I actually did get very afraid that Taka was really dead. Would have been unbelievably awful. ;-;
Man the phantom was/is SO dislikable to me this chapter, or at least, for all of the most of it. Like, go to hell, phanty. XD
Me: you might be my favourite character but right now you’re being REALLY annoying, not even in any kind of funny/”redeeming” way just a plain aggravating way, and you need to go away
It comes back to what I said in the previous post about me mistakenly thinking “the author” didn’t care much for the phantom, and kinda wanted us to dislike him for the major jerk he is. Plus his seemingly “out of character” behaviour kinda rubbed me the wrong way, until it’s actually addressed towards the end of the chapter.
Which, in itself, harkens back to that fic I mentioned from somewhere on the PWKM in my previous commentary post. But this time around, although I was not fond of the phantom currently presenting himself in this fic, I was still determined to read it, because the fic itself was still super, super good.
“An experiment, really. I’m quite excited to see the outcome.”
“No, you aren’t.” “Hah, well, I’m interested in the results regardless.”
I LOVED THIS EXCHANGE SO MUCH THOUGH. A+ DIALOGUE RIGHT HERE
“I suppose that’s as close to a compliment as I’ll ever get.” The Phantom took a flourishing bow, gun still pointed directly at Athena as he did so.
OH MY GOD I THINK I KINDA MISSED THIS LINE THE FIRST TIME AROUND. HE ACTUALLY TAKES A BOW. I’m imagining it done Edgeworth-style… WE STAN A SARCASTIC, SMARMY LITTLE EMOTIONLESS JERK. Me: ok, ok phantom. I love you this chapter a LITTLE for this, at least. Or a lot. Heh. But your little ultimatum towards Blackquill is still sickening to the core!
The phantom’s little breakdown, the crying… none of this I fully appreciated the first time around. Past me was something else…
Now this scene with Simon exposing the fact that the phantom wanted his attention is interesting in that, reading it again, I was actually quite surprised to find that Blackquill indeed never outright states that it has anything at all to do with romantic attraction or whatever. But as far as their discussion just before the phantom gets that brain surgery states, it’s exactly what he’s thinking, and exactly what I assumed too… He just never says it out loud, in those exact words.
I’d assumed so strongly that it must have been directly stated here somewhere by Blackquill. And when that scene before the surgery pans out between them, I then figured: “huh, so the phantom must indeed have been confronted with that accusation but come to realise that the need for attention was deeper than that.” I figured that huh, he considered it seriously but came to the conclusion it was untrue. Except. Now that I know it was never specifically stated, that interpretation mightn’t have occurred to him. He maybe went straight to realising he had some very deep issues goin’ on unrelated to romantic inclinations or whatever.
Blackquill goes on to spend the next few months straight-up assuming that the phantom has/had the hots for him……… Only to have that notion shot down by the phantom himself.
The fact that he doesn’t say it outright, but is still thinking it though, is like….
Blackquill, in vague and indirect terms, from his perspective: I’ve got it. The reason you’re acting so strangely. You’re gay for me!
The phantom: [suffers breakdown]
His guesswork had paid off, though part of him was beginning to think this secret had been better left uncovered.
Blackquill: wait WHAT. are you for real right now. I was literally just pulling stuff out of thin air here. You’re actually attracted to me?! (Now there’s a scary and creepy thought…)
Blackquill, under the misconception that the phantom felt a really messed-up and twisted romantic interest & attraction to him: [shudders] TMI… SOME THINGS ARE DEFINITELY BETTER LEFT UNCOVERED
And………… This scene with the phantom being kinda shattered and breaking down…… does resonate more with me, with the knowledge that the motivation and need for attention and acknowledgement was not motivated on the romantic scale, but rather went deeper than that, as you say. Although, it is hard to say, since I hadn’t appreciated it nearly enough on the first readthrough. That is ALL I shall say for now on the matter. All in due time… :P
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 14
Breaking these flimsy binds was just like pulling off a band-aid. One had to be quick and decisive. He pulled them apart in one fluid motion and the chain, unable to bear with such sudden force, broke into several pathetic fragments. Athena flinched in shock, then went straight on to looking exasperated. “You know, I’m starting to think you’re one of the most terrifying people I’ve ever met.”
“You’re welcome.”
Sdkjsdjnsdln ok Simon that was awesome. “just like pulling off a band-aid” I’M YELLING...
A good five more minutes passed in which everyone worked frantically with their shovels. Their shoes and pants became stained with mud, but no one complained. Not even Edgeworth, whose outfit was likely the most expensive.
The image of a mud-stained Edgeworth though… omg.
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 15
Okay, I am so curious regarding the intricacies of what the dynamic between Domestique and the phantom was like. I’ll bring this up again from different angles in a later chapter commentary(s) but. Yeah!
“I’m just saying that maybe you shouldn’t be out carrying an unconscious body by yourself, Boss. It’s gonna look mighty suspicious.”
Like first off, he calls him “Boss” here, when it’s later established there’s not supposed to be any real hierarchy – rather, they’re supposed to be accomplices (?). Then again, the title might be being used sarcastically or insincerely here. Although, Domestique does actually take orders from the phantom… That is consistently shown to have been the status quo as well. Hmm.
And even if they’re “supposed” to be on equal footing, the phantom is in a position of power over Domestique because there’s so many things the phantom can leverage in order to force him to do what he wants. So there’s that too.
I also took this statement sincerely the first time around reading it back when I didn’t know Domestique very well – I thought it almost sounded like he was showing concern. But now I see it as much more flippantly spoken. It’s not the phantom he’s worried about, really. The fact is, Domestique has been unwillingly caught up in all this and he doesn’t want it all to blow up in their faces, cause he’ll have to deal with the fallout too when/if that happens. I guess that’s the main takeaway here.
“What part of sit down and behave is so hard for you to grasp? That ‘stupid bird’ is more obedient than you are.”
LOL PHANTOM WEREN’T YOU ONLY JUST SAYING THAT DOMESTIQUE “DOES AS HE’S TOLD” IN AN EARLIER CHAPTER. Amazing.
Oh, also, when we initially learned about the “Bobby has been buried” thing I got extremely worried because I figured it would be another huge thing to add to Bobby’s trauma, as my initial horrified thought was of him being buried in the ground, conscious, with nothing to do but to wait. And wait. Thinking he was going to just run out of oxygen and die. That was such an unbearable thought. I’m so glad he at least actually “slept” through most of the ordeal. Now the phantom did initially say “motionless” when the worst is assumed, but does not add this specification when the reality is unveiled to Blackquill, so hah, yeah, at least in that sense I’d thought things were worse than they actually were. Relieved my thoughts weren’t the case…
Chasing Phantoms, Chapter 16
…Wait. Wait. There are TWO ways to read one of the phantom’s parting sentences:
“Death is the only option I have left. Are you the one attempting to save me from a sentence that is justified now?”
“Death is the only option I have left. Are you the one attempting to save me from a sentence that is justified now?”
I’d always read it the second way though.
“I would do so if there were any alternatives. There’s a lot of strings we’d have to pull on both Interpol’s end and the local police department’s end, but I see no other options. The only person qualified to impersonate the Phantom, ironically, is Bobby Fulbright.”
Reading this honestly blew my damn mind, I. Right now, I’m not even able to put into words how great and brilliant I found this upon reading it for the first time, to be honest. :D

I Lose Myself in You chapter 2
Tumblr media
Juice Ortiz X Original Female Character Word Count: 1.5k Warnings: Violence, mentions of blood and gore, mentions of death, (not so much a warning): soulmate AU, canon divergence Join my taglist :)
A couple days had gone by since my fight with that Blood Court warrior, my strength finally starting to come back enough that I was able to sit up on my own and was able to be wheeled around in a wheelchair. Juice hadn’t left my side the entire time, making sure that he was there to help take care of me alongside Tara and Ivar. I still ached all over, my wounds already scarring up thanks to my rather speedy healing abilities, though the pain was far deeper than just my skin. My soul was hurting as I mourned my people, sending silent prayers to the gods to watch over their souls as they made their way to Valhalla. It felt unreal, like it was just some awful nightmare that I couldn’t wake up from no matter how hard I tried to.
“Morning babe,” Juice came in, a coffee in one hand and a bag of something that smelled amazing in the other. “Brought you some breakfast. Thought you’d appreciate something sweet.” He plopped down next to me on his bed, that megawatt grin lighting his handsome face up.
“Thank you love, it smells divine.” I took the bag, opening it up to reveal an array of croissants, freshly baked from the smell of it, and fished one out, taking a rather large bite. The taste of flaky pastry and warm chocolate exploded on my tongue, and I let out a content hum of approval as I chewed, pleased at the taste. Juice took a drink of coffee before setting it down so he could lay down with me, his arms immediately wrapping around me carefully so he could hold me close to him. I leaned into him, my head resting on his shoulder as we ate quietly, just enjoying being together, when I noticed he had some tension in his shoulders.
“What’s wrong?” I looked up at him with a slight frown.
“I have to go back to work. There’s some shit going on and I’m concerned about what’s going to happen.” He mumbled, not meeting my eyes. I managed to sit up on my knees, cupping his face in my hands to make him look at me, my thumbs stroking over his cheekbones softly.
“I’m assuming it's dangerous whatever is going on. Just… be safe, okay? Don’t get reckless because I just found you. I don’t want to lose you before we really get to know each other.” I gave him a smile, trying to reassure him it would be okay. It seemed to work, the tension ebbing away as he wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his forehead on mine, our lips just barely touching.
“Promise I’ll be smart about it.”
“You better be. I don’t want another incident like the, uh, well… the almost indecent exposure moment with some man named Hale.” I grinned, teasing him about a brief moment I unfortunately got to witness. His cheeks went crimson and he covered his face with his hands, groaning as he fell back onto the bed.
“Jesus Christ, you saw that?”
“Oh yeah. I saw everything. It was at the worst time possible, too. I was in the middle of a political meeting and imagine having to explain to my board of advisors why I was laughing so hard in the midst of something so serious. They were less than thrilled, my parents even less so.” I chuckled, laying back with him.
“Oh, great, what a wonderful first impression to have on your parents before we even meet. I’ll be known as the ‘slightly retarted child’ to them.”
I grew silent at the mention of my parents, my heart aching all over again. He’d never get the chance to meet them now, thanks to the Blood Court. I could feel him shift so he was laying on his side, staring at me with a strange look on his face.
“Did I say something wrong?”
“No, no. Um. You don’t have to worry about leaving a good impression on my family. They’re gone. My entire Court is gone. I’m the Queen of an empty court now thanks to the Blood Court and… it doesn’t feel real. I keep thinking that I’m going to wake up and that everything is the way it was before…” I swallowed against the lump in my throat, trying to hold back the tears brimming, sniffling a little bit as I reached up to scrub the tears away with the back of my hand. My home, my people, everything was just gone, dust in the wind as it were. It hurt to say out loud and it felt as if my heart was going to burst through my ribcage and wither away in my lap. Juice hugged me, careful not to squeeze too tightly, stroking my hair and murmuring soft apologies, and the dam just shattered, leaving me a sobbing, hiccuping mess of a Fae blubbering into my mate’s shoulder.
“Danica? Are you okay? You’re not in pain again are you?”
I shook my head when I heard Tara’s voice coming from the door, still sobbing into Juice’s shoulder, giving myself a few more minutes to cry it out before trying to regain my composure. I took the tissue Tara was holding out, blowing my nose and tossed it into the trash can, taking in a few shaky breaths to try and ground myself again.
“I apologize for that, I swear I don’t lose my cool like that often.” I cleared my throat, avoiding Tara and Juice’s eyes, choosing to look at my hands instead, picking at my nails quietly.
“Babe don’t apologize. You lost your entire family, if you weren’t upset I’d be concerned.” Juice murmured in my ear, hugging me again. His kindness was highly appreciated, especially right now. Between not being able to do much and coping with losing everything, having him here and having his support meant the world to me. “I’ve gotta go but I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He kissed my forehead and got up, saying bye to Tara and took off.
“I hate this. I hate being stuck in bed, I hate the damned Blood Court, I just… I hate everything right now.” I took Tara’s hand as she helped me up so I could sit in the wheelchair she’d brought with her. “I want to fucking walk again! And I want to find that son of a bitch who did this to me and make him face a reckoning to end all reckonings.”
“Do you think he could have survived Juice hitting him with a car?”
“It takes a lot to kill a Fae. Getting hit with a car might wreck his shit for a while but it won’t ultimately kill him unfortunately. He’s suffering though, there’s no doubt about that. You add in the injuries I gave him and then getting slammed into full force by a car, then tossed through the air like a rag doll, and he’s not having a good time out there.” I was pleased by the thought of him laying out there in those woods all alone and in an immense amount of pain. I hoped he was hurting worse than I was, especially since I took his wings from him. If he was still breathing, he’d be gunning for me for that; taking a winged Fae’s wings was the ultimate insult that you could do to someone.
“Give me a moment, please. I want to try and walk,” I was determined to get out of this stupid chair and actually use my own to feet to get places. “I refuse to be carted around when my legs work.” I pushed myself up, feeling like a newborn unicorn foal as my legs trembled under my weight, threatening to give way. Gritting my teeth, I took two steps, nearly tumbling over from how weak I was still, and caught myself on a door handle. I wasn’t about to give up and pushed myself to keep going, Tara sticking close by just in case, and was able to actually make my way into the kitchen, only stumbling a few more times in the process.
“My mother used to joke that I would do things early out of spite because I didn’t like being left behind by the other children or because someone would tell me I couldn’t do it. I think she was right.” I chuckled softly as I leaned on the counter, taking a moment to rest. “The quicker I can recover, the quicker I can get out there to find that son of a bitch and bring him to justice. I want answers from him about this attack. The Blood Court is usually so busy fighting amongst themselves that they’d never thought to come after us before, so what made them band together now?” I was puzzled by the sudden willingness to work together, wondering what or who got them to stop the squabbling long enough to turn their focus to my court. And was it just my court who was attacked or did they target the other courts too? Whatever triggered these events, it was unsettling to think about.

I loved the recent ask you guys answered about Matt as a lawyer and ethics. I'm a recent law school graduate and big DD fan, so my question is: What are some of your guys' favorite moments from Matt in the courtroom in the comics? They could be ones you think are his best work, silly, dramatic, insightful, made an impact, etc. I'd just love to hear some more about his legal work and find some future issues to read. Thanks! :)
Thank you, and congratulations on your graduation! Neither of us have law degrees, so we can’t actually vouch for the accuracy of the legal antics portrayed in DD, but here are a few of our favorite law-centered stories.
Tumblr media
Matt on the Legal Rights of Aliens (Daredevil vol. 1 #28)
Tumblr media
Matt: “Only the law stands between justice and total anarchy–! And that law must offer equitable protection to all– regardless of race, creed, or color… Now, in this age of space exploration, we may need a fourth qualification… with regard to planet of origin, as well!”
Not a whole trial, but this is a funny early issue detailing Matt’s thoughts concerning the legal rights of extraterrestrials. In his defense… that’s actually a legitimate topic of conversation in the Marvel Universe. This scene was gently mocked fifty years later, in Daredevil vol. 3 #30:
Tumblr media
Matt: “It… wasn’t completely serious.”
Ru’Ach: “It seemed heartfelt.”
Matt: “I can’t swear I was entirely sober, even.”
Matt Defends the Black Widow (Daredevil vol. 1 #83)
Tumblr media
Natasha: “Once I was a spy– they’ll use that against me, too. All my life I’ve been afraid, Mr. Murdock– first of my Soviet masters– then of a strange curse– and now, when it seemed I’d found a country at last– where I could feel safe– everything’s come crumbling down!”
Matt: “Believe me, Natasha. I understand your fear– and I won’t let it happen– I promise you.”
This is one of a series of issues from around the same time, which all strike at similar themes: Matt defending those neglected by the system. This could describe most of his career, but the similarity of these early cases is what has led us to group them together. The above example comes from Matt’s earliest interactions with Natasha Romanov, who later becomes his partner/girlfriend, and remains one of his closest superhero friends. The Scorpion is seemingly killed while fighting Natasha, and bystanders claim that she was responsible. As a Soviet emigre and reformed spy, Natasha is so sure she will be convicted based on her background and cultural biases that she tries to run. But Matt convinces her to go to court and trust in the system, and manages to prove her innocence.
The other, similar stories from this era that we’ll point you toward are Matt’s defense of blind war veteran Willie Lincoln in Daredevil vol. 1 #47, and his defense of Bruce Banner/Hulk in Incredible Hulk vol. 1 #152-153. They explore many of the same themes, and are equally good.
Matt v. His Childhood (Daredevil vol. 1 #203. Not digitized)
Tumblr media
Foggy: “Tell me what’s going on here! Stymie Schmidt is guilty as sin and you know it!”
Matt: “He still deserves a decent defense. A lot of what I am today is due to that man. I own him more than you’ll ever know. This may be my one chance to pay him back.”
This isn’t a full-on legal story, but it’s a fascinating character study and another look how Matt’s emotions can interfere with his ethics. When one of his childhood bullies comes to Nelson and Murdock for legal help, Matt agrees to take the case himself… but Foggy soon realizes that his friend is planning to lose on purpose, for revenge. This is not the only time Matt’s past trauma comes back to haunt him in this way, but it is by far his worst reaction to it.
Karen Page v. Mr. Fear (Daredevil vol. 1 #375)
Tumblr media
Matt: “Let’s get some reasonable doubt in this joint.”
Karen: “Matt? Matt? What happened to your face?”
Matt: “Cut myself shaving, of course… That’s what the invincible, cocksure hero is supposed to say, isn’t it?”
DD vol. 1 #375 is the final issue of Joe Kelly’s phenomenal run, and is one of our absolute favorite issues of Daredevil. The story arc leading up to it details Karen’s attempts to deal with an increasingly violent stalker. When he ends up dead thanks to some supervillain meddling, she becomes the prime suspect and is put on trial for murder. Way too emotionally close to the situation for obvious reasons, the issue follows Matt’s frantic attempts to win a case that seems more and more unwinnable the harder he fights, all while attempting to take down the supervillain responsible. It’s a powerful story, and a great look at the point of contact between Matt’s legal and extralegal careers.
Playing to the Camera (Daredevil vol. 2 #20-25)
Tumblr media
Matt: “Foggy, meet Samuel Griggs. Mr. Griggs wants to sue Daredevil.”
We mentioned this magical arc in the other post, but it always merits more attention. Matt and Foggy are hired to sue Daredevil for some property damage that Matt knows he didn’t cause. He accepts the case (against Foggy’s wishes) in order to keep the situation under control. Chaos, ethics violations, and a massive superhero law-based comedy of errors ensue. This arc isn’t afraid to take itself less than seriously, which makes it a hilarious read and by far the most lighthearted part of volume 2.
The Trial of the White Tiger (Daredevil vol. 2 #38-40)
Tumblr media
Matt: “Sitting in judgment over a total stranger. There is no larger burden that we as a society will put on ourselves. But I can ease that burden for you… because Hector is innocent of the crime he is accused of.”
Luke and Danny talk Matt into helping one of their close friends– Hector Ayala, the original White Tiger– who has been charged with murder. Knowing Hector is innocent, Matt agrees to represent him, despite the danger this association will present to his already vulnerable secret identity. This is a courtroom drama, pure and simple, in which all of Matt’s skill as a lawyer can’t prevent his case from imploding.
(Flash Fact!: Barry Allen (the Flash) has a cameo in this story. Don’t tell DC.)
The Spartacus Gambit (Amazing Spider-Man: Extra!)
Tumblr media
Matt: “I’m trying to keep your mask on and get you out of the civil suit. It’s going to take a little more than what I’ve got planned to get the criminal charges against you dropped.”
Peter: “What do you have planned?”
Matt: “If I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise.”
This is a great little story, in which Matt defends his buddy Peter Parker in court. He is his typical smug self, which we always enjoy, and he comes up with a creative argument to reduce Peter’s charges. It hits a lot of the same superhero legal issues covered in “Playing to the Camera”, but it’s still a fun read. This issue runs parallel to Amazing Spider-Man vol. 1 #587, so we recommend reading that as well, for context.
Leopold York v. Foggy Nelson (Daredevil vol. 3 #12)
Tumblr media
Matt: “Welcome to the mock trial in the case of Leopold York v. Foggy Nelson. […] Professor, will you be defending yourself?”
It isn’t an actual trial, but this flashback to the origins of Matt and Foggy’s partnership is too fantastic not to mention. Foggy is accused of plagiarism by a spiteful professor attempting to get him kicked out of law school. Knowing it’s a frame-up, Matt insists on fighting back, and forces the professor into a trial-like situation in order to argue the truth out of him. It’s a nice glimpse at Matt and Foggy’s early friendship, and a testament to why they make such a good legal team.
Supreme (Daredevil vol. 5 #21-25)
Tumblr media
The arc that just ended was a great law-based story, enhanced by the fact that the current writer, Charles Soule, is also a lawyer. Matt attempts to craft a new law that would allow masked superheroes to testify in court without revealing their identities. Wilson Fisk and the supervillain community at large take issue with this. Soule mixes legalese with physical action in clever ways (e.g. Matt’s metaphorical brawl with the Supreme Court, shown above), brings in Jen Walters and Fisk’s badass lawyer Mr. Legal, and generally celebrates the heck out of the intersection between superheroics and legal work. This may be our favorite law-based DD story yet.

Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
