Hey. I’m not feeling the best right now. Can w I get some Ben and Five headcannons?
oh no !! I hope you feel better soon :(
Five and Ben were pretty close when they were younger which means that Five knows that Ben was a little shit
He might have the likes of Diego and Luther fooled but Five absolutely knows. He knows how much Ben could actually shit talk. He knows that Ben was not an innocent
Whenever Five irritated Ben too much, Ben would frame him for something. Sometimes this would manifest in an academy wide prank war which would inevitably end up in punishments from Reginald that everyone would blame Five for. Five. And no one would would ever believe him that sweet, quiet, wonderful Ben would start this sort of shit
Five fucking knows okay
However Ben was also like, the only intelligent conversation that Five ever actually had on the team so like, it’s not like he can just drop Ben (even though he knows what he did) because who else is he supposed to share looks with over Luther’s boneheaded plans with? Allison? As if Allison would ever admit Luther was being an absolute idiot
They had the silent understanding that Ben could be as much of a sarcastic shit as he wanted and in return Ben would let Five rant about temporal physics and complex mathematics and actually ask intelligent questions which occasionally led to breakthroughs
“It’s not my fault you can’t hide your own assholeness.” Ben informs Five with a straight face after Luther yelled at Five for three hours after Five rightfully informed their number one that it was actually Ben not Five who put dye on his toothbrush that turned his teeth green
Five mouths ‘I am going to destroy you’ to Ben across the breakfast table and Ben just serenely asks Klaus if he finished the math homework for their lessons today like Five doesn’t even exist
Five is twelve when he realizes that Ben is actually the devil
But actually he really admires it
Even if the way he realizes it is because Ben turns big eyes on Diego and says that Five was being mean to him, which almost gets Five a knife in the arm
(Five returns Ben’s stupid book of octopus facts, he didn’t even want the stupid thing he just stole it to get back at Ben for stealing his good umbrella jacket... yes he can tell shut the fuck up allison)
“I’m going to time travel.” “No you aren’t.” “You want to bet?” “Five. Five. We have been going over the equations for literal weeks. Did you even figure out the prime issue?” “Shut your mouth.” “Knew it.”
And Five does time travel and his second thought after “What the fuck” is “fucking Ben was right and can never know”
okay admittedly there’s a lot of apocalypse trauma and he finds the bodies of his siblings and then finds out that Ben died young and he’s just. there’s a lot going on okay
and then he travels back and ben is still dead and he’s kind of like... he can’t not save Ben but he’s got to make sure there’s a future or whatever to go to when he travels back in time and snags his brother up or whatever
except then Klaus summons Ben and well
“You asshole!” Five howls, pointing accusingly
Klaus is vindicated
“You can’t talk like that to Ben.” Diego says firmly, as though the time all of his knives were superglued to his harness wasn’t all Ben’s fault. As though that time wasn’t blamed on Five.
“No, no, let him speak.” Klaus says, like a man who has been forced to be the only recipient of Ben’s sarcasm and sass for a great number of years.
Ben has been dead and invisible for a long time and no longer gives a single solitary fuck about what his family thinks of him tbh, and with Klaus clean(er) and a lowkey grudge against Luther (because come on Luther, Ben was rooting for you we were all rooting for you)
So Ben has no problem being like “YES. ‘TWAS I WHO GLUED LUTHER’S HAND TO HIS HAIR AND FRAMED DIEGO FOR TIPPING OVER OUR 8TH BIRTHDAY CAKE.”
“How did none of you ever notice that I ‘acted out’ whenever one of y’all ended up peer pressuring Ben into using his powers.” Five grits out, because his family is filled with fucking idiots.
“In fairness,” Ben says with his arms crossed and a frankly unimpressed look on his face, “I also did it whenever you were being especially asshole-ish. Which was with great frequency.”
“I’m going to murder you in your sleep.” Five hisses.
“Missed that opportunity by a large margin, baby bro.”
and then Five screams with all his feral rage and tries to attack Ben because he isn’t often corporeal and he doesn’t want to miss the chance
Except Ben catches him in a hug and Five just freezes like a kitten who gets put in a cat harness for the first time and it’s great
“Oh my god I’m just now realizing why Ben and Five got along so well.”  - says every siblings with a braincell who has the sense to fear a Five and Ben team up
The first time that Five manages to frame Ben for something feels like fucking vindication
vindication, Ben

Hey... Could you maybe... Could you make a oneshot consisting of Bakugou's older sibling reader (I'd prefer it to be gender neutral with a more masculine style, however you prefer) x Midnight? 🥺🥺 I love her so much and Horikoshi did her dirty. You can do whatever oneshot that you want/comes to mind, I just want something fluffy. Thank you UwU
Udk how much I squealed getting this as my first ask!
(also whoever you are you made my day/week/month (。・∀・)ノ゙)
I agree, Horikoshi did her dirty. She had some moments but that was IT. I tried my best, hope you like it!!
Tumblr media
(it's more of a you being a hero and being in a relationship with Nemuri rather than a one-shot surrounding your relationship, but there's a bunch of fluffy stuff at the end, so gehe-)

You woke up to the sweet smell of smoke coming from the living room. Groaning, you got off your comfortable bed and raced to the living room to stop Bakugo from his daily antics.
"You really got to stop doing this in the morning, Katsuki," you told the younger male, "It's literally," you looked at the clock, "8 am in the morning and my half-asleep self could've gotten hurt stopping you from breaking all hell loose."
Katsuki scoffed while looking at you. "Why aren't you at work yet? As you said, it's already 8 am."
"Later shift today! I only start at around 10 am."
"Wow, aren't you lucky?" Katsuki said as he walked towards the stove, "I'm making pancakes, but I won't make even one for you until you go bathe. You look disgusting."
"Okay, okay." You say, raising your hands and rushing to the bathroom to get ready for the day.
After bathing, you head back into your room and began to wear your skin-tight hero suit.
You groaned slightly as you slowly pulled the form-fitting clothing up your body.
"I swear to God this isn't getting easier."
"You are literally a fatass, so I'm not surprised," you heard Katsuki scream from the kitchen, "I pity Midnight. The fact she needs to be around a literal piece of garbage who doesn't even look good."
"At least I have someone, unlike your childish ass."
"I am a child," he retorted.
You sigh as you open your room door and head back to the kitchen.
"One day, you're going to wish you were nicer to the people around you."
"Maybe," Katsuki said while passing you a plate with a stack of three pancakes, "...but I am pretty sure you aren't going to be one of them, judging by how much you baby me."
"But you are a child! Didn't you say so a few minutes ago?" you say as you pinch his cheeks, earning a growl from him, "Woah, calm down dog."
"Shut up and eat, fatass."
You chuckle at his words and proceed with the order given by your younger brother.
You loved getting later shifts on Fridays. These were the quieter days in the Bakugo household. Mom usually took her extra days off on Fridays like today, extending her weekend. Dad left for work earlier on Fridays but he'd always buy some spicy thing for Katsuki and you to have in the morning. Something to wish us a good day, I presume. And to top it all off, you and Katsuki would have these "sibling" moments, which mostly consisted of you annoying him to the point he'd lash out at you.
"You're a really good cook, Katsuki. These pancakes keep getting better!" you compliment the 10-year old.
And there it was: you entertainment of the day - Katsuki trying to say thank you but failing miserably thanks to his own pride as a "man".
"T-than- that's obvious, isn't it?" he ends, a blush present on his face, "I make pancakes every single time you have a later shift because you like it. If I'm getting better, that means you've been getting more later shifts. That means you've been slacking off, you stupid Pro Hero!"
"...how did you even get to that idea?"
After calming down a raging Katsuki, you put on your gear and head to the entrance of the house.
"Have a good day at school, Katsuki. Don't do anything you'd regret," you playfully warn him before leaving the house.
The streets of Musutafu were usually peaceful. Ever since All Might became the Symbol of Peace, the crime rates have dropped extensively. Yet, there are always one or two little naughty kids that wanted to play with their quirks - or in simpler terms, people who act like kids and try to do minor crimes using their quirks.
Using the liquid formed in your hands, you aimed at the legs of the two running males in black and wrap their legs together. Within a second, the liquid instantly formed into a rope and bounded their legs together, forcing them to fall face down.
"You both gave me a good morning run, thanks for that!" You say as you place two handcuffs around their wrists, "But you should seriously think about another hobby besides stealing."
From afar, you heard a loud boom coming from the middle of Musutafu.
In an instant, you formed another bunch of rope and tied the two males around their waist and pushed them to the corner of a building.
"Run away and you'll get more than just jail time," you say as you rush off to the scene.
The minute you reached the scene, your eyes widened in fear.
Endeavor was the reason behind the whole catastrophe here?
From behind, you felt a pair of soft hands touch your shoulder.
"I know what it looks like, but trust me it isn't," Nemuri started, "A villain that has a mind control quirk is controlling Endeavor from a distance. I've been trying to locate them, but no luck."
You smiled, looking at your girlfriend.
"You managed to get all of that in a few seconds?" you ask, amazed, "I got a good one, didn't I?"
You felt Midnight pinch you from behind.
"As much as I appreciate the compliment, now isn't the time to flirt with me," the female hero said.
You nod, washing away the playful smile.
"You get all the civilians out of here and contact the heroes through the network. I'll try to get him down and knock him out," you say. Nemuri nodded and began to gather the civilians away from the scene.
"Now," you turn to face the 2nd best hero, "How does one take down someone much, much more stronger than you?"
You slowly gathered your liquid in your palm, allowing the fluid to grow in volume.
"You defeating Endeavor would be a sight to behold, not going to lie here," the villain said through Endeavor, "But I am willing to test out that theory."
You lunged at the fire user while creating a fire-resistant rope to tie him down in your hand. In the other, you managed to conjure a Haladie sword - a sword you've trained with ever since your days in UA.
Using the sword, you managed to propel yourself above Endeavor and cut his back. Using the momentum you built, you used both your feet to hit the back of Endeavor's knees, forcing him to kneel.
You immediately stabbed his dominant hand, preventing him from reacting quickly.
With a snap, the Haladie sword transformed back into its liquid state and wrapped around his left hand.
"I was never planning on defeating Endeavor but merely securing him, dear villain of mine," you say as you transformed the liquid around his left hand into a quick-cancelling glove, "It’s one point for Y/N, right now. No point for little Mindy over here."
You began to build up more liquid in your hands to hopefully form another Haladie sword or at least a blade.
The controlled Endeavor began to get up slowly and turn to face you.
"I didn't peg you to be a dumb one, Y/N."
You felt a blade pierce through your stomach.
A civilian sobbed as they pressed the blade deeper into your body, your blood dripping onto their office coat.
"I can't believe you let your guard down so easily. It was your fault to assume I could only control one person at a time, little hero," the controlled civilian said midst crying.
"And that will be your downfall," Endeavor said as small flames began to grow from the palm of his right hand.
The knife that once was in your body was violently ripped out of your body by the controlled civilian and then used to kill themself by piercing their heart.
Tears fell as you saw the now lifeless male bleed to death right beside you.
"Oh don't worry," Endeavor said, "I'll make sure you also go with him, too. That small wound won't kill you, I know that."
You saw Midnight running towards you along with Eraserhead and All Might.
"You know, I always pictured you crying over a dead Nemuri Kayama whilst bleeding from your stomach, have you?"
Your eyes widened at the statement.
There was no way you were going to let that villain kill her.
"Eraser," you screamed, "Erase his quirk and get Midnight out of here."
'Please don't fail on my now, buddy,' you told to your body as you ran towards Endeavor, 'You still have to live for the people you love.'
You quickly formed another Haladie sword and vaulted from the floor towards Endeavor.
You managed to grab the hand aimed at Midnight and pushed it towards you. Using the remainder fluid you had, you formed another quirk-cancelling glove on Endeavor's right hand.
You could hear a sigh of relief from both Nemuri and Shouta, making you smile.
From afar, you heard All Might saying that he caught the villain that was controlling both the civilian and Endeavor. You were shocked when you heard the number one hero's laugh of victory.
You were amazed at the skill the male had.
A villain that took two people to search for was found by him in a few minutes.
Soon, the wound formed by the dead civilian began to take effect as your vision became hazy.
Before you could lose consciousness, you felt Nemuri's hands wrap around you, catching you before you fell.
When you woke up, you heard the sound of hospital monitors beeping. You felt a small hand gripping around your left hand.
"Why did you let them stab you, idiot," you heard your younger brother say, "Don't go teaching me a lesson with your death - it won't work."
You chuckled, looking at the younger blonde. "If this doesn't work on you, I don't know what will."
Katsuki began to sob on your blanket while gripping on the four fingers his small fingers could grip.
"It's okay, Kacchan," you saw a green-haired boy patting his back, "He is here and he is alive. That is all that matters, okay?"
You smiled, looking at the greenette.
"What's your name?" you ask him.
"I'm Izuku Midoriya! I'm friends with Kacchan," he says with a beaming smile.
"Kacchan, huh?" you tease, "You are really close friends with Kacchan, aren't you?"
Before Izuku could reply, you felt Katsuki pinch your leg.
"I don't even know why I care for you, you fatass."
"Oh, how you wound me," you feign sadness as the ten-year-olds left your room.
You smile at the sight of the greenette consoling your brother as they walk out of the room.
You look up to the ceiling, sighing.
"You are a bit too young to be sighing so loudly, Y/N," Nemuri said as she slowly opened the door, "I saw what you did there. Don't tease Katsuki so often, he is quite mature for his age, you know?"
You smile, looking at Nemuri with her hands on her waist.
"He's growing too fast. I need small moments like this to remember how innocent he is before he becomes the raging little twit I know he'll become."
"Woah, Woah, Woah," she says, laughing, " 'Raging little twit'? You really are a bad brother."
You begin laughing, "I have to be the playful one or else the Bakugo's would be a family of three brooding people and one peaceful man."
"True."
Your eyes widen.
"You aren't supposed to agree, you know?"
"My mother taught me not to lie," she says, smiling.
"Well, white lies aren't bad."
She sits beside you and holds your hand. Tears slowly escape her eyes as she looks at you.
"You are okay, right?" She says, sniffling.
You slowly wipe off her tears and put the palm of your hand on her cheek.
"I'm fine, Nemuri."
You slowly move towards her and place a kiss on her forehead.
You pat the empty side of your bed, "Want to join me?"
She slowly nods as she walks to the empty side of the bed and gets in. Her legs immediately wrap around your left leg as she places her head against your chest. Her left hand extends around your waist and hugs you.
"What are you, a koala?" you joke.
"What can I say? You are a comfy tree."
"Well, I am glad to be of service."
Soon, Nemuri goes to sleep. Soft snores can be heard from her as she rubs her head against your chest.
'The koala became a cat,' you thought to yourself.
Your right-hand goes to the top of her head, ruffling her hair.
"I love you so much, Nemuri Kayama. I always will. If I had to, I would gladly lay my life down so that you'd be safe. I know you're asleep and probably can't hear this, but you are the most important thing in my life - don't forget that," you tell her sleeping figure as you fall asleep.

“So wait,” Maria laughed, “you broke up with your fiance by packing up your car and driving away?”
Liz nodded, half cringing as she did so. “I couldn’t face him!” She shook her head and took the shot Maria offered. “There was nothing wrong with him or with us, it just wasn’t right? And I didn’t know how to explain that to him?”
“So you just left,” Alex concluded.
Liz nodded. “Relationships suck,” she pronounced before tossing back the shot. Maria laughed and handed out another round. Technically she was working but she’d overstaffed the schedule that night so she wasn’t needed.
“That they do,” Alex murmured in agreement before downing his own. Maria and Liz both turned to stare at him in unison, twin looks of intrigue and glee on their faces.
“Oh?” Maria teased.
“Do tell,” Liz added.
Alex laughed and shook his head. “I’m not drunk enough yet.”
“I can fix that,” Maria told him earnestly. She quickly filled his glass and pushed it back over to him. “Talk to us, Manes,” she ordered.
“You’ve been a man of mystery ever since you got back,” Liz chided gently.
Alex winced. It was true that he hadn’t exactly shared much since returning to Roswell and reuniting with Liz and Maria but he hadn’t had a lot of practice in recent years talking about himself. Everyone who needed to know something usually found out on their own. It worked for him.
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Maria muttered suddenly. Alex looked up at her in surprise, Maria wasn’t one to cuss often, only to find her staring over his shoulder. He started to turn but didn’t make it very far before a tall blonde form was pressing up against him.
“Where is he?” Isobel Evans-Bracken demanded sharply.
“Hey!” Liz cried. She reached out to shove Isobel away from Alex but Isobel brushed her off without looking away.
“Back off, Evans,” Maria ordered. But Alex waved her off.
“Hello to you, too,” he greeted idly. Ignoring her eye roll, he tossed back his newly filled glass.
“Where is he?” She asked again.
Alex turned his head slightly to look at her. “Do they not have courtesy where your from?” Isobel stifled her flinch but Alex caught it. “Most people say hello first.”
Isobel clenched her jaw. “Hello, Captain.” Alex thought the stress on his rank was entirely unnecessary. “You’ve been home for about a month now so again I ask, where is he?”
“You have a phone, yes?” Alex asked instead of answering.
Isobel scoffed. “As if it does me any good. Now stop avoiding the question.”
Alex rolled his eyes. “I don’t know.”
“Bullshit.”
“I really don’t.” He really didn’t.
Isobel stared at him like she was trying to get inside his head but Alex ignored her again. “Fine,” she said finally, holding out her hand. “Give me your phone.”
Alex saw Maria and Liz tense at the order, both of them already on edge from Isobel’s sudden appearance and her behavior thus far but he ignored them and pulled his phone out of his pocket. He even unlocked it before handing it over.
Isobel snatched it from him and stomped over to a corner, the phone already pressed against her ear. Alex watched curiously, honestly unsure if she would get a response. It’s not like Alex always did.
He didn’t have to wait long. “So your phone does work!” Isobel said loudly before continuing in a quieter tone. If Alex strained, he could maybe make out what she was saying but he wasn’t sure he cared enough right now to try.
“Max?!” Liz sat up straight next to him. It was the only warning Alex got before the other Evans twin pressed up next to him.
“Hi, Liz,” Max greeted her warmly before turning to Alex. “Where is he?”
That gave Alex pause. He’d expected Isobel to badger him for information, had been expecting it ever since he crossed the city limit a month ago truthfully, but Max had always kept his distance from Alex. He glanced up at him. “I don’t know.” He gestured over to where Isobel still stood. “She took my phone and seems to have gotten through so go ask her.”
Max went to his sister’s side without another word.
“Okaaaay,” Maria dragged out. “What the fuck?”
---
Alex was more than a little tipsy when he finally got home. He was drunk enough that he probably shouldn’t have been driving but he really hadn’t wanted to spend the night on Maria’s couch so he let her sober him up a little bit before he left. Max and Isobel hadn’t stayed long after her phone call ended and neither one of them had bothered to tell him what the emergency was but Alex did get his phone back so he pushed the encounter out of his mind. Getting Liz and Maria to drop the inquiry had been a bit harder but eventually they realized he wasn’t going to answer their questions and dropped it. For now, at least.
When Alex pulled up to his house, the headlights reflected briefly off the shiny metal of an Airstream. It was parked behind the house, almost hidden from the road. The beat up old Chevy was in the extra parking spot next to Alex’s.
Alex turned off his car and carefully got out. He ignored the truck and the Airstream and the implications of them being there when Alex hadn’t seen either for close to six months.
It was late, he was tired, he was drunk, and he just wanted to go to sleep.
So of course, he opens the door to the sound of a saw.
“Michael!” He yelled helplessly, the noise making his head hurt already. Alex dropped his keys on the table next to the door, made sure the lock was turned, and ventured closer to the noise.
It was coming from his bedroom. No, he realized as he got closer, it was coming from his bathroom. Alex peeked in the doorway and groaned loudly, the sound covered up by the machinery. This morning he’d had a shower tub, now he had a hole in his bathroom. Michael was crouched on the ground, cutting pieces of something Alex couldn’t identify. He had his protective gear on and Alex knew he was oblivious to everything but what was right in front of his eyes.
With a loud sigh, Alex flicked the light switch. Almost instantly, the saw cut off and Michael turned to face the doorway. His hair was a mess, his clothes dirty from his work, and he looked exhausted.
He was still the best thing Alex had seen in months.
“Hey,” he greeted quietly, turning away almost immediately. He started cleaning up his work.
“I need a shower,” Alex complained. His leg was killing him and he felt gross after spending all night at the Pony. Coming home to yet another one of Michael’s projects was not what he’d had in mind for the night. Especially since he hadn’t heard from him in weeks.
“You’ve got another bathroom,” Michael replied.
Alex thudded his head against the door frame and instantly regretted it. “It doesn’t have handrails.”
“I put the ones from here in there,” Michael told him.
“Why?” Michael didn’t offer a response other than to cut a glance at Alex’s leg. Alex rolled his eyes. Sure, Michael had promised after his injury to make sure his house was accessible but that was three houses ago. He let it go. “How long are you staying?” He asked instead.
Michael’s shoulders slumped just a little. “Don’t know yet.” He never knew. “You?”
“Don’t know yet,” Alex replied. Michael nodded like he’d been expecting it, though Alex had always had an answer before.
If anyone asked, Michael would deny he’d done it until his dying breath, but a week after Alex left for basic training, Michael packed up his stuff and followed him. He played it off like he wanted a road trip, like he’d ended up in the same town as Alex by pure happenstance, but they both knew he’d followed him. It set a pattern after that: Michael never stayed forever, taking off every now and then with his Airstream and going who knows where, but he always came back to Alex. Even when Alex received new postings, Michael would show up within a month.
It was unconventional. But it worked for them. Sort of. Mostly.
They weren’t monogamous but they were committed. Mostly. Alex might define it as an open relationship if they’d ever actually had a conversation on the subject.
When Max and Isobel needed to get a hold of Michael and couldn’t, they called Alex. Or besieged him at the bar. Alex sometimes knew where Michael was. But not always.
Michael went to school except when he didn’t. He picked up odd jobs and trade skills when he needed to. He never tried for more and it drove Alex crazy. He had so much potential and Alex couldn’t help but think he was squandering it chasing after Alex like he did.
Alex was in the Air Force. That hadn’t changed. Not yet. Neither had Michael’s aversion to it. Michael correlated the Air Force with Alex’s father and most of the time he could look past it for Alex’s sake but sometimes he couldn’t. Those times were times when he would pack and up and leave and Alex wouldn’t see him for months at a time.
Alex’s injury and his refusal to accept an honorable discharge had sent Michael running as soon as he’d made sure Alex was okay.
It was the first time Alex hadn’t been sure Michael would come back.
“I’ll have a new shower in by tomorrow,” Michael told him, yanking Alex from his thoughts. “It’s got a bench and some other stuff to make it accessible.” Alex held in his sigh of relief. He’d been making his shower tub work for the last month but it was exhausting.
“Thank you,” he told Michael sincerely.
Michael nodded in response and stood up, his work tidied enough not to trip Alex up in case he needed to get by for any reason. “Come on,” he shooed. “Shower.” It was a wordless offer to help and Alex appreciated it.
Alex didn’t move. He waited right where he was until Michael was right in front of him. “Hi,” he said softly.
“Hi,” Michael huffed in fond amusement. “You gave my sister your phone.”
“You didn’t have to answer.”
He shrugged. “I thought it was you.”
Alex twisted his fingers in the front of Michael’s shirt and pulled him in for a kiss. “I missed you.”
Michael kissed him again, longer this time. “Missed you too. Now shower. You smell like the floor of the Pony.”

FIC: Welcome to Backwater ch.7 (spicyhoney)
Tumblr media
Summary: Stretch knows he can't really depend on the kindness of strangers, but oh, sometimes he wishes he could.
~~*~~
Read ‘The Kindness of Strangers’ on AO3
or
Read it here!
~~*~~
It was with a heavy, weird-ass book in hand that Stretch returned to the heat of the afternoon. This time he made haste getting back to the store while his knees were cooperating, almost jogging on the sidewalk and waving to any regular customers as he passed. The sun was on its downward path by now and the strollers were out in full force, the Human moms and pops pushing them hardly paying him any mind past a ‘good afternoon’ as he went by.
His knees were back to the wibble-wobbles when he slipped through the door, the bell announcing him with a muted clank. The first thing he noticed was that Red wasn’t behind the counter. He was standing at the back of the store, leaning on his cane and blocking off the hallway that led to both their living quarters. Yeah, that looked like insurance that Stretch couldn’t hurry on past him upstairs; Red wasn’t quick, but he also wasn’t stupid, and Stretch could feel his hard gaze scrutinizing him from across the store.
Wonderbar.
Stretch pasted on a grin and tried to act like someone who hadn’t been recently felt up by Red’s little brother in the public library. Not that Red said that he couldn’t, but some things, (for example, random groping) could probably be inferred.
“hey, what’s up?” Stretch said brightly.
“my bro called,” Red said bluntly, and Stretch’s feeble hopes deflated like yesterday’s party balloon. So much for discretion.
“i can explain,” Stretch blurted, “it wasn’t my idea, seriously, i was only—"
Red interrupted him with an amused snort. “easy, kid, don’t haul out your guilty conscience on my account. all he did was give me the gist of things, said you had yourself an unexpected adventure.” Red jerked his head towards the hallway. “g’wan, string bean, you can use my bathroom. take a shower and cool off.”
A cool shower pouring down on his dirty, sweaty bones sounded like Eden itself right about now, apple not included.
“thanks,” Stretch said gratefully. He skirted around Red, who didn’t move, only squatted there like a grouchy stump in the middle of the doorway while Stretch squeezed around him. Must be tempering his kindness with a little extra asshole to keep things even.
On his way to showerland, Stretch took a quick detour to leave the book on the coffee table amidst the clutter. Maybe he could ask Red about it, get the cliff notes version.
The shower in the downstairs bathroom was stuck with the same crappy water heater as upstairs, not that it mattered since Stretch was about ready to cuddle with an iceberg to cool off. Added bonus, the showerhead was a lot better and it managed to crank the feeble water pressure up to its max. There was a cheap plastic stool sitting in the tub, way too short for Stretch. He sat on it anyway, knees almost up to his chin as the cool water poured down on him and washed away the sweat and filth.
He was shivering a little by the time he was done, dragging a ratty towel over his dripping bones. The pile of his clothes was missing and there a new folded bundle sitting on the closed toilet lid. He must’ve been out of it more than he thought, he’d never even heard Red coming in. Unless laundry fairies were a thing and wasn’t that idea a lot more pertinent than it was yesterday.
Stretch picked up the bundle and part of it fell on the floor. Pajama pants, luckily not a pair of Red’s although it might’ve been hilarious to see Stretch wandering around like a scrawny hulk who sprouted upward out of his clothes instead of sideways. They were red plaid flannel and worn to the stage of being shiny at the knees and elbows. Probably an old pair of Edge’s, the fit was pretty close and not too many Humans wore their waistband quite as skinny as a guy without a waist.
(he was not getting a cheap thrill out of wearing a pair of Edge’s pajamas, no matter what his libido was trying to tell him)
He wandered out into Red’s living room, still squeegeeing his skull dry with the damp towel, and saw the sofa was made up with some blankets and a pillow, the television remote set helpfully in reach.
“you done?” Red’s voice echoed up from the store and his peculiar gait made its way down the hallway until he appeared again in the doorway. “then lay down and turn on the boob tube, zone out awhile. you’ll feel better.”
“what did your brother tell you?” Stretch asked. Not that he wasn’t willing to do what he was told. The couch was saggy in the middle, but the blankets were clean and smelling of laundry detergent. They felt blissfully cozy after the cold shower.
“said you met edgar allen,” Red said. “under less than stellar circumstances, i’m guessin’, since i don’t think ya got an invite for a meet and greet with the local scarecrow.”
This time his shiver had nothing to do with the temperature. Edgar Allen was an okay guy, (guy?) but Stretch was still on the fence about the corn’s attitude problems. “not exactly, no. thanks for the heads up, by the way.”
Red tilted his skull to one side, baffled, “heads up about what?”
“i dunno,” Stretch leaned up on an elbow to see him better and hopefully increase the effect of his dirty look, “maybe when you’re warning me off from the local landmarks, you could’ve touch on that fact that a stroll through the fields might involve the corn trying to hold me as a captive audience?”
“naaah,” Red scoffed. Stretch didn’t miss the way he absently started picking at his gold tooth; that was a nervous tell right there and maybe all this wasn’t just concern but dealing with a little guilt that Stretch’s latest town bonding experience was less than top notch. “that's why the damn scarecrow is there t'begin with. ‘sides, even without him you’d have gotten out before dark. anyway, never expected you to go tromping off into the corn in search of a maze, sorry i misgauged the direction of your dumbass.”
“no, i’m sorry, not your fault.” Stretch couldn’t hold back a yawn so wide it nearly split his skull, yeesh, it wasn’t even dinner time and he was ready to sleep for a week. The imaginary hamster running on the wheel in his head wasn’t quite as ready and it decided to race back to thoughts of Edge sitting in the library, alone. Researching he’d said, so intent on his books from the so-called restricted section, like a bargain basement Hogwarts. “hey, what does your brother do?”
“mostly he’s a pain in my ass.”
It was said with great feeling and Stretch snerked out a laugh. Yeah, kinda a universal trait with little brothers. “no, seriously, i mean, for a living, what does he do?”
Red shifted his feet, his cane scraping the floor. “why are ya askin’?”
“curious. bored,” Stretch shrugged, “take your pick.” He didn’t really want to explain to Red that his brother wasn’t just a sexy pair of legs in boots anymore, (but those hips would never be forgotten). He was interesting, no, fascinating. This whole town was turning out to be some kind of puzzle and it seemed to him that Edge might be a big piece. He’d said that figuring out Backwater was a fool’s errand, but he’d never met Stretch’s kind of fool before.
“kid—” Red sighed and that resigned tone snapped Stretch out of his whimsies. He cringed internally. What was he even trying to do here, he owed Red so much and not just for the job, and here he was digging for information about his bro after Red already warned him off, not once, but twice, so maybe what he was really digging was his own grave, if he didn’t knock it off.
“nevermind,” Stretch said hurriedly. “i shouldn’t’ve asked, none of my business, i get it.”
Red shook his head. “that ain’t it.”
Stretch tried on a little laugh, ha ha, see, it wasn’t that big a deal, right? “look, the state of your brother’s ass aside, i get it. that’s your little brother, and i didn’t forget what you said. we only bumped into each other at the library, i’m really not trying to get into his pants.”
He left off on making it a promise; he was telling the truth, but why take the chance on not keeping it.
He didn’t expected the hand that suddenly scruffed over his skull, like the noogies he used to give to Blue when he was little…well, okay, Blue was still little but noogieing was off the table since he’d started his guard training.
This wasn’t like that childish roughhousing, Red’s knuckles only scraped softly along his coronal sutures. “no, kid, you don’t get it. my bro can handle himself, it ain’t him i’m worried about. but you? don’t ya got the feeling you ain’t up to any new affairs of the soul right now? might want to take it easy awhile.”
That unexpectedly gruff kindness made tears sting in his sockets. Stretch guiltily leaned into that touch to absorb every drop, and how was it he could accept it from Red when he couldn’t take it from his own brother? “i don’t get you. you barely even know me. why are you so nice to me?”
Red huffed out a laugh. “you want i should be an asshole? okay, but i gotta warn ya, i’m a contender when it comes to dick moves.”
“thanks, but you can keep your dick in your pants.”
“your loss.”
“seriously, though, what i mean is. i just don’t get it. this place is so weird, but everyone is nice.” It didn’t exactly line up with Stretch’s view of the world. His brother was always nice sure and Snowdin hadn’t been too bad, if you didn’t count the fact that all his friends were from drinking his nights away at Muffet’s. The surface world ran about fifty-fifty with Monsters being on the kinder side of the scale…until he got dumped and found out he lost all his friends in the divorce, how was that for loyalty.
Red only chuckled. “now you’ve gone and cursed yourself. can’t say everyone is nice, you ain’t met everyone yet.”
That was true, fuck, he hoped the universe wasn’t listening and if it was, that it didn’t decide to drum up a little drama. “red?”
“yeah, kid?”
Stretch craned his head back on the pillow and met Red’s crimson gaze upside-down. “thank you for being nice.”
“don’t tell anyone. i’ll lose my resident asshole status.
“secret is safe with me, promise.” Stretch yawned again and the cow bell suddenly jangled loudly out front, startling them both.
Red shouted. “yeah, i’m coming!” He tossed over his shoulder back at Stretch, “take tomorrow off, sleep in, you ain’t had a day off since ya got here.”
“thanks, boss.”
Stretch started to settle in, nap ahoy, captain, hard to starboard and all that, and his eye lights snagged on the book. Shit, he forgot to ask Red about it. Probably didn’t matter, Red’s ingredient label kinda went equal parts of cryptic and cryptid, so he probably wasn’t gonna give the right answers even if Stretch figured out what to ask.
Wait.
If Red and Edge want to share the part of the local Obi-Wan with their mysterious ways, that was fine. He already had the perfect person lined up to ask about the town’s history. Well, part of a person, anyway, the most important part.
Plan formed, Stretch turned on the television and snuggled into the blankets, letting the dulcet tones of Pat Sajak lull him to sleep.
He didn’t dream.
~~*~~
The next day, Stretch headed over to the theater bright and early, still munching on the muffin Red handed off to him as he settled on the stool for the day with his latest book, this one with a bare-chested pirate embracing a busty Human woman as the ocean sprayed up over the hull over them. Seemed to Stretch that would be less smokin’ sexytimes and more cold and wet, but what did he know, his closest encounter with the ocean was extra salt on his Applebee’s margarita.
“thanks, mom,” Stretch said as he took the little paper lunch bag Red held out to him. Red only grunted and didn’t look up from his book. In the midst of rummaging for his tasty free breakfast, Stretch hesitated at the front door.
He felt a little guilty even though Red was the one who told him to take the day. Before he started working at the store, was Red really sitting there all day long, twelve hours of a cash register and customers while he drank beer and soaked up a little romance language in the form of a cheap paperback?
Not that Stretch was judging, hell, if that made Red happy, more power to him. Still, there had to be more to his life than that, didn’t there? Maybe he’d see if Mitch sold sudoku pads at the gas station, pick him up one along with a six-pack. Hard to guess if they carried that kind of entertainment; Mitch was either some kind of crossword grand champion or the kind of guy who ate ketchup on his cheerios and Stretch still wasn’t sure which.
The first movie showing wasn’t for another hour, but Igor didn’t make a fuss when Stretch asked him if he could go sit down early. (and holy shit, the proprietor’s name was actually Igor? He wasn’t sure if the guy’s parents hated him or if the universe sense of irony rolled a natural D20 when it hit this town.)
Igor only grunted and handed over two cups of popcorn without being asked, handing back a crumpled dollar in change. Aww, Stretch had a usual, see, he was settling into town just fine, suck it, Edge.
(don’t think it, don’t think it, don’t think it…)
Stretch made his way to the theater to his regular seat, propping his sneakers up on the chair in front of him. The popcorn he set aside for now, it wasn’t exactly his idea of a breakfast treat and that muffin Red gave him was still settling into his magic. To be honest, he wasn’t entirely sure if Doris could show up very long before the movie. He was no expert, but he did know that ghosts could have some peculiar rules about manifesting. Hopefully this wouldn’t mess with her morning routine, whatever it was.
He didn’t have to wait long. Maybe Doris could sense him or maybe she could just feel it when a living person came into the theater. She slowly came into focus next to him, pale ectoplasm coalescing, and the already cool air chilled even further.
Doris happily sniffed at her popcorn as she said, whispery soft, “Good morning, Stretch, you’re here very early.”
“yeah, took the day off work,” Stretch said. His voice sounded too loud in the empty theater, not even the elevator music was playing yet. “i need your help with something.”
He might as well have flipped Doris’s switch to ‘on’. She lit up, a smile curving her pretty mouth and seeming more solid than ever. The seat behind her was barely visible through her pale pink dress as she said eagerly, “Of course, anything that I can do.”
So that was how Stretch came to tell her the story about Edgar Allen. He didn’t leave out any details, including the bit about the kids shouting at him not to go in the field, the corn closing in around him in a dizzying maze of green, Edgar Allen’s assistance, and Edge’s cryptic warning that the scarecrow would disappear with the harvest.
Doris listened to it all raptly, her eyes wide and startlingly blue, and she never flickered once the entire time. The only unsettling sight was a single trickle of blood running down the side of her face, gathering in a heavy droplet on her chin.
“My, that sounds terrifying,” Doris breathed, unaware of the irony of her saying that while a slender thread of ghostly blood ran down her cheek. The droplet swelled fatly, growing until it finally fell with a plip onto her dress, leaving behind a perfectly round spot that would slowly vanish, only to be replaced by the next drop.
It didn’t really bother Stretch much anymore; he was getting used to it and an old memory of blood was nothing compared to his recent woes. “yeah, it was spooky all right.”
“But I’m not sure I can help you,” Doris continued sadly, “There wasn’t a scarecrow in my day, not that I remember. But the corn. Yes. That I recall.” She shivered delicately and her chair let out a strange groan of springs. “A person could get lost for days in the corn. I remember…” Her already faint voice went softer and Stretch strained to hear her, her gaze distant. “I remember one year at harvest time, they found a skeleton in the field, it was awful. Oh!” She gasped and pressed a gloved hand to her mouth, “I’m so sorry, it was a dead person, not a skeleton like you!”
“no offense taken,” Stretch assured her. He slouched down in his seat even more and waggled his feet, his untied shoelaces laces bobbing against the seatback “huh. so at least one person died out in the corn.”
“I’m afraid I don’t remember much about it,” Doris admitted. “whoever it was, they weren’t local.”
“uh huh.” An outsider, then, like him, getting munched up by the corn triffids. “who owns the corn fields, anyway?”
“I…” she hesitated, then apologetically. “I’m not sure. I don’t know if I’ve forgotten or if I never knew.”
Another mystery. If he was gonna play at Sherlock Holmes, he really needed to start taking notes. Maybe get a pipe.
“welp, either way, edgar allen bro out there saved my ass,” Stretch told her. He picked up a piece of popcorn and didn’t eat it, only crumpled it between his fingers and let the mangled bits fall to the floor, “and he’s gonna die come harvest time. i feel like i owe it to him to at least hear his story, you know? edge wouldn’t tell me much, just gave me that book and a scavenger hunt.”
“This Edge person doesn’t sound very nice,” Doris said disapprovingly. Her mouth pulled down into a frown that flashed briefly to a bloody smear. “Is he local?”
“kinda? he’s a monster like me, so he could only have been in town for a coupla years. since we came to the surface, anyway.”
Sudden relief washed over Doris’s pretty face. “He’s not a human, then.”
“nope, he’s another skeleton monster.” That seemed to satisfy her. Note to self, Doris wasn’t real keen on Humans, in a way that didn’t seem like it was only about the way they ran away when they got a good look at her. That mystery wasn’t all too mysterious, not with a big, bloody clue flickering in and out of view like a gory version of a kid’s flipbook. If that was a going away present from another Human, he didn’t blame her for being wary. He wondered if she’d met Edge before but Stretch hesitated to bring up that idea, or to mention Red; he didn’t want her to feel bad if she didn’t remember. “yep, another skeleton monster in town. he’s kinda rough around the edges, but he’s okay.”
“Okay, is that all?” Doris said with unexpected mischievousness, “he didn’t sound simply ‘okay’ when you were describing him.”
A blush flared hotly in his cheekbones and Stretch hunched down in his seat, weirdly embarrassed in a way he hadn’t been with Red. At least Red could see what he was staring at, Doris only had him waxing poetically about Edge’s hips to go by, and Shakespeare he wasn’t.
“yeah, yeah,” Stretch grumbled, and damn, he should’ve brought along his hoodie, at least he could’ve hidden from the laughter shining in her translucent eyes. She had a dimple in the cheek on her good side and it deepened as Stretch admitted, “could be that i enjoy the view. but that’s it, okay? just a little sightseeing, i don’t need any souvenirs.”
“Uh huh,” Doris clicked her tongue thoughtfully, “Stretch, my mama always told me you can’t hurry up a good time by waiting for it.”
Other people were starting to come into the theater now. One of them gave him a curious look, but they didn’t stop, only followed the others down to the front row.
“the only time i’m looking for is in the nick of,” Stretch sighed. “guess there’s no way around it, i’ll have to read the book.”
He should’ve known not to try to find an easy way out; seemed like all his shortcuts had abandoned him, lately.
Doris laid a hand on his arm and a sudden chill sank its teeth in deep enough for his bones to ache. “I’m sorry I couldn’t help,” Doris said softly.
“nah, you helped plenty,” Stretch told her. She had. Now he knew that scarecrows were slightly more recent, at least within the past century and that maybe the cornfield wasn’t quiet as safe as it’d been played off to be. At least a cornfield without Edgar Allen in it.
The lights started dimming, the first credits beginning to roll. His popcorn was cold, the butter congealing it into clumps of greasy blobs that stuck to his fingers. Stretch ate it anyway, hey, it cost him a dollar, and laughed with Doris as Buster Keaton escaped from a bumbling crowd of cops by grabbing onto a passing car.
His phone was in his pocket, tucked in deep and only lightly pressing against his femur through the thin cloth of his shorts. It vibrated once in a quick, staccato burst while the movie was playing but Stretch ignored it.
That was one lesson he’d learned very well while they still lived under the mountain; if you focused on the task at hand, you didn’t have to think about the ones you left behind.

Bucky returned to the compound, dirty, rough around the edges, and just fucken damn glad to be home. What an odd thought, he really start to feel like this was home, YOU were home. The first time since he left for the army way back when, now he had a place to settle down, let himself explore something he had yearned for for a lifetime to most.He was home, he had to admit being able to get used to this.
Following Sam to weapons lock up, he just replaced most of his tactical gear, the weapons, well they were his babies, and all needed to be personally attended to, cleaned before he could in good concious put them in the lock up. Sam slammed the cage door after putting away his Falcon Wings when he looked over at Bucky.
“You know, you might wanna clean up before going up to Y/N, especially your hair man.”
Bucky really didnt know what he was going on about, but reaching up, he could feel the rats nest of tangles that formed, 2 weeks in some remote bum fuck area being shot at would do that. And honestly he was ripe, it probably wouldnt do well for the upcoming reunion between the two of you.
“Trust me, your not any better off.” Bucky retorts back, locking his own cage door, and headed towards the showers.
“The ladies all love me!” Sam called to Buckys retreating back, chuckling in amusement, opting to head back to his own apartment. After the couple weeks they been with each other every waking moment, they both needed a break from one another.
After his shower Bucky stood at the mirror, alone in the facility, and the mess that showed back in his reflection made him wince. Sure the bruises and cuts, not a big deal. He would heal from those fairly quickly. He managed to work out the mess of a knot, It looked just like himself looking back, but he wasnt seeing James “Bucky”  Buchanan Barnes, no, he still saw The Winter Soldier, the man with an unknown number of kills under his belt.  But he knew... He remembered every single one. The knowledge brought him the greatest grief, it was heavy on his shoulders, even with the vibranium arm holding him up. It made his physical aches pale in comparison,
Nearby his phone gave off your ringtone, and he snapped back out of his thoughts, glancing down to see a picture of you two lighting up the screen, and suddenly that heaviness was gone.
You were playing music on your phone as the two of you walked the compound grounds after a long exhausting day. Honestly Bucky would have been content to crashing on the couch to reruns of Bobs Burgers, you always would giggle during that dumbass show. But you insisted on this first. “Please Bucky, just a quick walk down to the river” He relented, you did ask so nicely. His arm rested lightly around your hip as you would sweep down to pluck a flower and twirl it in your fingers before twisting it into the crown of your head.
“Where the brave are free and lovers soar Come ride with me to the distant shore We won't hesitate to break down the garden gate There's not much time left today Life is a highway I want to ride it all night long...”
You phone sang and you plucked it out, opening the camera as you moved behind him, jumping up on his back, catching Bucky by surprise, his arm shoots behind to help hold you up.
“Smile Barnes!” Resting your chin atop his head, and his eyes rolled up in a exasperated look, the corner of his mouth coming up in a grin at you. You wrapped your legs tighter around his waist and slid down a bit, like a hug from behind, and nuzzled your face against his own.
God Damn He loved you.
You gave him joy
‘Heard your FINALLY are back. See you tonight when I get home. Im gonna blow this popsicle stand early. Picking up chinese. Dont worry, Im going to get that orange chicken extra spicy. Cant wait to see you. Love you Sargent. XOXO’
And ahh, there it was, Home. He thought seeing your message, the way you were all about blowing off the rest of your day to come back, taking care of him picking up his favorite guilty pleasure, and the way you insisted on calling him Sargent, even before the two of you started taking your friendship further. Simply setting his phone down, his gaze lifted back to the mirror, and thats when he decided he wanted to bring Sargent Bucky Barnes back. Collecting a hair clipping kit from the shelf, he got to work.
Waiting for the elevator to bring him up the flights, his hand went to brush through the shortly cropped hair, it was a bit more in style with today, a mess of tufts atop his head, it was different, it would be different for you. You were so used to the longer look and always told him how you loved them. Hell the first time you two started hanging out, you snuck in his room and braided it just for the hell of it much to his horror. How would you react to this? The elevator buzzed open and he went down the hall to your shared apartment, the door locked.
Digging out his keys, they clink against the vibranium of his hand letting him know he had them in his grasp and pulled them out of his jeans pockets, getting the door unlocked, and stepping inside, its all quiet. Usually you had a bit of music playing of some sort in the background. He never knew what it would be, you were set on giving him an education of lyrics and tunes. So far he had no complaints with your choices. Dropping his keys in the bowl you kept as your “Keep all the shit off my kitchen counter” bowl, he went to go see what you were last playing for music. Picking up the ipod you so lovingly cherished, he pressed play. And guess what the song was.
Disney. Lion King to be exact. You had just gotten out of the shower and were singing to Hakuna Matata, and Bucky had been stretched out on the end of the bed, watching you in the steamy bathroom, wriggle your hips as you pull your panties up over your ass “When I was a young warthoooog!” Bucky broke out in laughter right here, pushing himself up to sit and you pulled one of his shirts over your head as you left the bathroom, continuing along with your song, and cupping his face, looking down at him.
“It means no worries For the rest of your days It's our problem-free philosophy Hakuna Matata!”
You wink at him and kiss his forehead, his arm lopes around your hip, drawing you to sit in his lap, kissing in the curve of your shoulder and neck, placing feather light nips and trace of his nose along the softness, inhaling your honeysuckle softness. You trail fingers along his shoulder and nuzzle into him, enjoying the early morning moment, before the day truly started.
“We should adopt that philosophy you know” You say chuckling as your still humming the tune softly, swinging your legs that dangled over Buckys lap. “Means no worries, no worries about us showing up to work on time.” He chuckles against your shoulder and lifts his head to kiss your lips, playing at nipping between tangling of tongues and pulling away. “And have Sam come barging up here demanding to know where my ass was not down training the new recruits? He wouldnt know where to start with this group.” You scoff with a roll of your eyes, and nudge him to fall back, straddling his hips and running hands up his chest. “You think Im scared of the Falcon, bring it Oversized Pigeon.”
Fuck he loved you.
You gave him so much laughter.
Turning it up further, he went to go grab a beer from the fridge and with a twist, he flung the cap into the disposal, taking a drag off it. He never knew he would enjoy these craft beers you insisted on buying cause “There seasonal bits of goodness, let me have my weakness... well one of my weakness” A very obvious salacious wink thrown his way. A lick of his lips cleared any residue on the beer and he was about to check his phone to see if you sent him another message, usually you were good about blowing it up when he heard the door handle click open, and with your usual gusto of chaos, swept in. Your keys missed the bowl, of course. You never actually followed your own rules. And a quick kick sent sneakers flying off your feet. “Bucky Baby, that better be you. If it isnt, im about to whoop ass on whomever it is.”
You come around the corner and dump the bags of chinese on the counter, still not having seen Bucky, but you caught sight of a flash of him over your shoulder, in the living room. You couldnt wait to see your man, it had been so long, and Fuck you just missed him. Tossing everything else down on the counter, hell you were all about breaking rules, especially your own, your turn on the balls of his feet, calling him again “Bucky Barnes, I so- “ Cutting yourself off immediately when you step into the living room and your mouth hangs open a bit in surprise. Self consciously he touches the top of his head.
“You... You cut your hair!” It was said in surprise, pure surprise. Its not like normally something like this would surprise you with a regular person, this was Bucky Barnes, the man who tried to stay as routine as possible for the simple fact it was that he was in complete control of himself, and that is what he was all about. You had never seen him even have the desire to cut his hair, ever.
“You like?” His voice is soft, almost a child like softness to it, and a worried look on his face, like maybe he made a mistake? You give a shake of your head, and that surprise looks fades into an excited one, crossing the room to reach him.
“Baby, fuck I LOVE IT”
You two are driving, no where in particular. You were restless, the hot sunshine weather making you itch to go for a drive, Imagine Buckys surprise when you held up a pair of keys to Tonys Acura Nsx, wiggling brows at him.
“Is that... Starks keys?” Bucky questioned when you tossed them at him, wrapping your arm around his and tugging him along.
“Yup, ssshh, we will bring it back. Were just borrowing it. For the day.”
“You know your starting to remind me of Steve.” He accused as you two entered the garage, and he opened the convertibles door for you, slipping inside.
“Sorry baby, he doesnt borrow rigs this nice. Im a class all my own.” Giving him a smirk, you slammed the door shut and he just shook his head while circling to the drivers side.
Miles away, Bucky is loosening up to your little trip, your flipping the radio to some random station, singing along in that soft voice of yours.
“So baby pull me closer in the backseat of your Rover That I know you can't afford Bite that tattoo on your shoulder Pull the sheets right off the corner Of the mattress that you stole...”
Bucky glanced over at you while you were so lost in the moment, your feet were dangling out the door, you yourself were angled to lean into him, the aviator glasses slid down to the tip of your nose, and with a push of the button, you dropped the top down, your long tresses of hair whipping around you, you slid your hand into his and lifted it to your face, brushing his knuckles along the side of your face, your eyes sparking over the glasses at him. His foot pushed onto the gas, and the the Acura sped up, taking you two anywhere and nowhere at the same time, it didnt matter anymore what the plan was.
Chaos and All, he loved you.
You gave him adventures.
“Do you?” Relief crossing his face and easing the tension he held, your hands immediately brushing into the soft locks of hair, marveling now at how soft they were, sprigs popping in between fingers and you bit your lip, eyes shinning up at him, in a playful manner, you gave a slight tug and stepped in closer to him.
“Bucky, absolutely I do, this is the best surprise ever, even better then when you let me call you Bucky Bear in public.”
He rolled his eyes and snorted, tracing his hand over your hip to grasp your ass. “That was a one time thing, and the barista was clearly uncomfortable writing ‘Y/N’s Bucky Bear; on the cup.” Who is he kidding? He actually loved it and you knew it. You wiggle your nose at him and place a loving kiss on his lips.
“Yet you still allowed it. But why, tell me why the change?”
Tumblr media
How you managed to drag him to the museum display once again, he didnt know. But this seemed to be something you loved, the two of you walking quietly around the different exhibits. Reading over the information, and your questions would draw stories out of him that others didnt know, short of Rogers. His gaze would lift to the faces of his howling commando brothers, from a life time ago, and you would tumble into a decent part of his past. No, it wasnt perfect. There were hard memories edging the shadows of his mind, but you only encouraged the better parts, the parts he was proud to tell.
“It was our fifth hydra outpost, and the prisoners they had kept there were the rowdiest bunch. They drank all of us under the table that night in celebration. Short of Steve... poor guy couldnt even catch nothing more then a few minute buzz.”
You shake your head chuckling and wrinkle your nose at the idea. “Well that would suck, cant even get yourself a proper buzz, let alone drunk. I dont know, maybe the serum wasnt worth it.” Moving the two of you to the next display, and he caught a look on your face, and then turned his attention to what you were staring at. A picture of Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, himself with a piece of his history. “This one here, my favorite display in here. You look so handsome, so proud.” Your head would rest on his shoulder. “But Im gonna be honest, your best picture is the one on my nightstand. They should have that in here.” One of all of you back at the compound, you and Natasha playing video games against him and Steve. in that photo he was laughing at something Natasha had said, a deep laugh, holding onto Steves shoulder as he doubled over.
He looked at the photo, tucking you in close to his side, but remained silent. That one on the wall was a life time ago, but yes, he was proud of who he was before Hydra.
Quietly, He loved you
You gave him Pride.
“It was just time for a change Y/N, time to say goodbye to that part of myself I just... I cant take any of it back, but I can move on from it. Im ready for our memories to be what I see in the mirror.” He confessed, his gaze falling down to look lower then in your eyes, and you, well damned if that man couldnt stir you to your soul.
Your hands cup his face to bring his gaze back up, kissing him fiercely, no hold back, all of it was just poured into this kiss to your Bucky Barnes, he accepted it. His arms pulled you up to wrap your legs around his hips, and a hand snaked up the back of your shirt, pressing the small of your back in flush against him, your chest crushing against his and your arms loped around his neck. Falling back against the couch, you arch up from where you were sitting low on his stomach, running your arms down his chest. “Get comfy Sergeant, Im never letting you leave this bed again.”
His brows lifted as his hands moved to lightly grasp your thighs on either side on his waist. “Baby, you know this is the couch....?”
“Shut up Barnes, we will make it to the bed eventually, now kiss me like you missed me, cause fuck I missed you!”
Always, He loved you
You gave him his Home.

Cursed... #3
Hello, had to change a few details to make this work with the change. But I think I made it work. It was fun and I have a possible continuation, just have to work through details. Give me time, might come out with something else meanwhile I work on cursed...
Still kind of tired after an attempt to an all nighter, and remembered why I shouldn’t stay up all night. But I do my best.
#1, #2
enjoy! Vigilante gasped and their breathing hitched, every shard of glass that was removed hurt like hell. But Vigilante had to remove them and wouldn’t ask for any help. That was one shirt ruined.
Vigilante ignored the shards of glass at the side of the tray wit alcohol and glasses. The taste of whiskye was sour and Vigilante shook violently, they spilled the drink in their lap. Then throwing the glass in the wall, hearing the crash, and glass splitting. They had known their sword was cursed, what had changed in a few hundred years. “Nothing…”
The door opened a bit, Hero looked in and Character was with them. “Vigilante,” Hero hawked, unsure of what to do now.
“I was hoping you wouldn’t come here.” Vigilante took a good look and sighed, knew the blood colored to the sofa, and hurt when they leaned back. Vigilante gestured them to come in, rose up, and turned around. “I’m fine,” Vigilante said and none of them believed them. “Did you tell them?”
Vigilante heard a metallic sound, Hero murmured low. “There was no choice really… What happened?” Hero came to them and took a good look at their back.
“It will heal.” Vigilante just said and scoffed to Heros stupid worry.
Hero touch one of the scars and Vigilante gasped. “This will be infected before that, I have to take care of this.”
Vigilante tensed, “I have survived worse.” Vigilante gently pushed Hero away and showed their red and puffy eyes. Hero tackled them down and if it didn’t hurt so much they would have fought Hero.
“I know, but if you wasn’t immortal your pride would have gotten you killed!” Hero turned to Character who didn’t know what to do, “get the medkit from their bathroom, it’s just right down the hallway.” They took hero’s order and went to look, meanwhile, Hero held on to Vigilante. Gently remove the shirt and reveal the wounds.
They were quiet as Hero took care of Vigilante’s wounds and they made sure not to make a sound. Cleaned and a few needed stitches, but Vigilante wouldn’t make a sound or give away to pain.
“That’s better,” Hero said content and rose up. Vigilante groaned and took support up, “is that your sword? And please tell us what happened.” Hero asked and must have understood, Vigilante took a look at it before looking up on the roof.
Vigilante nodded in despair, “my father made it and gave it to me. But he was also the one who made sure it was cursed, it’s the easier way to disarm me.” Then turned to see the sword on the table again, “I can’t wield that sword anymore.”
“Do you mean magic is real? Why did you want to touch it then?” Character asked unsurely and Vigilante nodded.
Their fight against magic had been unjustified and none the least fruitless. “At least it was, as far as I know. I have been to every so-called ‘magic show’, your illusions aren’t close to real magic.” Vigilante cursed, “as I saw it I could feel hope… I needed to… Did I break anything?”
Character nodded and Vigilante blushed out of embarrassment, “don’t worry about it.”
Hero thought, “I didn’t even consider magic to be real, Vigilante. Illusions are all we know.”
Character held the sword up high just as Vigilante used to and did with other none cursed swords. “Was it you they found trapped in a room?” Vigilante nodded, took their keys and a flashlight. As they walked out to the stone door, “your sword must have been right up there.”
Vigilante took a closer look, that was right. The lines and how someone forced it out of its prison. “I see… Must have been taken when I was freed, I couldn’t see so much by then.” Character analyzed the text first, “do you know what it means?”
“I can translate, can you tell me?” Character said and followed the carved lines, “you where a knight, I assume, you must have learned Latin.”
Vigilante nodded again, the only thing missing was that they took a closer look at Vigilante themselves. “I can speak, understand it to some point. Read, not so much, haven’t done it since back then.”
Character didn’t say so much about it and Vigilante was surprised by Character. Had expected them to be different. They spoke the words, a little clumsy maybe but good enough. “‘A tomb for the cursed, an eternal prison’. Property of the catholic church.”
Vigilante repeated the first message, a warning not to open. “Well, I’m glad people don’t take a curse serious nowadays or can Latin.” Otherwise, Vigilante might still be inside. “Come to think about it, I think I spoke some Latin to those who found me.”
Vigilante opened the door and without any problem the heaved it. “But it’s pitch-black…”
“I know,” Vigilante gave them the flashlight. “If you dare take a look. Take these too, I have extra. Just in case…” Character slowly took a step and then one more with, first in total darkness. Then the light came on and the walls in stone where uneven, the floor, also uneven, was dirty and mostly covered with rugs.
“Is it renovated?” Character asked, Hero was behind Vigilante. Some part of them was afraid Hero would betray them.
“Just so I could put in a kitchen, get water and… See it as my mancave, for when I need to think without distraction.” Vigilante gave Hero a look if only to keep an eye on them. But it wasn’t needed at all, “I could need a drink.”
Vigilante throw Hero the key, “don’t leave it in the door.” Hero just scoffed as an answer.
Vigilante held the drink up and drunk everything up at once. Then they took a newer sword and not as fragile. Swinging it with precision and control they had been taught at an early age. But their back hurt only by the movement. “Can I see your swords?!” Character asked loud and came in with Hero behind.
Vigilante took their father’s sword, “this was proof of my father’s heroism and new nobility. From a king, I really can’t remember the name on.”
“You can’t?” Hero said, “to have lived so long… Shouldn’t you be more considerate of your past?”
Vigilante laughed, “it was one tyrant after another. The other had a war with another country, the next made peace and started a war with magic… And so on. Besides, I don’t have a grudge with any king, it’s because of the church this was build I can only imagine.” They then started to swing a swing with a deadly angle, which could separate someone’s head from the body.
Hero winched, “be more careful, Vigilante. I don’t want to stitch you up again.” Vigilante sat down.
“What was your family like?” Character asked looking at the golden sword.
Vigilante dropped the sword, it scrambled loud on the floor. “My family… They were my guidelines, tyrants who made rules of how to keep nobility. My mother was the hardest on these rules, needed me and my sister to be perfect… That’s why she married the third prince, the prince loved her. My father did what he thought was right, to my mother’s disappointment… I did everything to keep it that way.”
Vigilante clinched their fist so it turned white. But ignored Hero and Characters surprised face. Vigilante looked at the punch marks on the wall, every one of them visible, “pressure…”
Hero gently touched vigilante’s shoulder, “you’re angry. I get it, I think I know what can make you on better mood…”
Hero took the sword from the floor and gave it to Vigilante, “you always say no.” Vigilante smirked and easily made dangerous tricks with the sword, “I would fight you, but now… You could train me.”
Vigilante gave the sword to Hero and they whimpered at the weight, “try to lift it.” Vigilante asked and Hero could barely make it with two hands. Vigilante thought of Hero as strong, “it’s not that heavy.”
Hero glared at them, “because you’re stronger than me.” But Hero smiled suddenly. “Then you have to tell me exactly what happened when they took you.” Vigilante thought a little bit and could hear Character shift in their steps.
“Right… Character, would you care to join us?” Vigilante reaches the sword to them with an elegant movement and their face shines up. Of course, Character can’t handle the weight of the sword either.
“It’s an honor.” Character said and fell down on knees, Hero laughed and Vigilante just left the room. Somehow amused.
Well in Vigilante’s training room they tried to remember where they had started with their own father. “I expect you to use both your hands, think of the sword as a part of your arm, and aim at your target.”
Vigilante pointed to the dummies, Hero wouldn’t let them demonstrate.
With expecting an answer Vigilante made sure both were there, on a dummy they did some easy and some hard maneuvers. “I was partly taken down a move I memorized,” then Vigilante could feel their body protest and what wouldn’t they do to do something. “Luckily I had some protection…”
Both Hero and Character were quiet and they started a hard training Vigilante had started at an early age. “Now it’s your turn.” Hero swallowed but took a step forward to begin their training. It started slow and every movement made them sweat. Vigilante didn’t remember it to be that hard, “start to tell us.” Hero ground out between their teeth.
Vigilante overviewed their word and small progress, “a lot happened after I was cursed and I got away with wounds I’m confident would have killed me. Then I got the plague…”
“WHAT…?!” Character exclaimed and the sword fell with a clang.
“Concentrate, you can ask questions afterward.” Vigilante ordered, “I was sick for weeks and the pain… I can’t even explain it, I thought I was going to die. Others did too. But I didn’t and people’s whispering and hidden fear were clear to me. Meanwhile, everybody died I survived and just had a cold to trace back to it. Hero, breath.”
Hero had collapsed on the floor and had a hard time breathing, but with their shaking arms, they rose up and was calmer now.
“Good, keep cool, and remain focused.” Vigilante stated and had their eyes on them, “all I could think of was to find the mage and get rid of this pesky curse. So ready I could be I sneaked out… I got jumped by another knight, they asked why I was alive. I didn’t give an answer and their fear made me fight them. As soon as I touched my sword… The light blinded us both and got others to come too.”
Hero’s grip was hard and their hands shifted colour, Vigilante laid a hand on their shoulders to calm their anger. “Don’t be angry and swing a sword, that’s how you make mistakes. More precisely that’s how I got cursed.”
“Really? What did you do?” Hero asked and Character had an amazing concentration on the training. More then Hero was.
Vigilante sighed and wasn’t proud of what they had done. “A friend… A knight was killed because of magic, I went rampage. Tracing the witch to a peaceful village where they hid, when they didn’t show themselves I started to kill with no control. When the witch came the village was dead they saw the slaughter… They could fall down and cry, but they started chant something. I wanted to run… People didn’t let me leave, the witch cursed me and it was painful. I was thrown down a cliff and left there.”
Hero turned with the sword up high, “you kind of deserved it then?” Vigilante nodded and turned Hero around towards the dummy.
“Kind of… Keep training, before you know it there’s a villain we need to catch.” Vigilante patted their back, “well, surrounded and confused I took support against a wall. My father shows up, pick up my sword, and put it to my throat. I begged for help, but none was there.” Vigilante took a sharp sword and buried it into a third and free dummy, cursed when pain pierced “together they took me to the church… I begged and begged and inside I fought for hours, days. Maybe even weeks, then all I saw was those people. Mythical creatures such as wyverns, griffins, or… Then I realized I can’t live in the past or believe myths like that.”

The new girl in the Cut: JJ Maybanks
Authors note: second time writing on tumblr, not sure if this is any good but it might end up into a series I write. Just thought this was me and to see if anyone likes it ☺️☺️. Going to write a lot more if anyone wants to join this journey. Also, got this gif off of Pinterest credit to the owner.
Warning: light cursing and my terrible writing
Summary: a new girl moves in to the outer banks knowing no one. Just her for the summer for a project. Little does she know who she’ll meet.
She drove an old good looking Jeep Compass steadily down the road in front of her. The gps telling her exactly where to go on these unfamiliar roads. A small miniature dauschound sat in her lap, paws on the steering wheel loving the long ride, and a high rising pit bull sat in the passenger seat with a holey box under he’s feet. Her car was jam packed with stuff.
Finally She came to the destination after a long road trip, a boat ride, and another trip in the car. An older looking house loomed in front of her. This was her project this summer. Well this whole new for her island was her project for this summer. She already had a job for her here and this house but that’s about it. She knew nothing about this place. She knew no one.
Her mom though this was a good idea for a freshly new 18 year old with too much baggage. To get away from home for a summer to work on a family owned house in the outer banks.
She turned off the car, hooked on leashes, and opened my door. The small dog, Romeo, hopped out, than she stepped out, and finally the bigger dog, Koda. They started making their way to this new house. The porch door squeaked harshly but otherwise everything was sturdy. With the key She was giving, She opened the front door and welcomed her new life.
Within a week, she had figured out her plan for this old run down shack, gotten a job at the hardware and feed store, and started a game plan. With the money she had saved over the years and money her mom gave her, she started fixing the old house.
The first day, she went the job interview and bought paint supplies. She also saw a really good looking guy tape up a sign. Someone was offering lawn service.
‘Perfect’ she thought. She couldn’t cut grass due to being allergic to grass. So she took one of the stubs. She had also fixed an appropriate chicken pen. In the box was her three prized chickens that she loved.
The second day, she woke up and went to her first day at work. 6 am to 6 pm. A full day of training. All she wanted to do was calapse on the old mattress in the only room in the house but she didn’t. She got to work on the house.
The third day, she did the same thing. And she followed that routine for the next three days before having a day off that Sunday.
One week in a new life and the only people she meet were customers and her co workers. No friends yet and, to be honest, she wasn’t so sure she wanted any friends either. She was so sure work was gonna be her new routine.
That Sunday she texted the number on the stub she took that Monday. Little did she know.
JJ Maybanks woke up at the Chateau, like normal. The put out couch was he favourite bed to sleep on. The other option was he’s own bed at home, and that just wasn’t as safe as the one he slept in that night. Plus he was 18, a legal adult capable of figuring out where to sleep.
He lazily checked his phone to check the time, 10:47. He also got a text from a stranger. Weird, last night wasn’t a kegger so no new fuck buddy wasn’t expected. Instead of that, he got a hit on one of his signs around town.
The text read “the sign said this was the number to call or text for lawn service, right?”
‘Sweet’ he thought ‘another Kooks money’ so of course he responded. He told this stranger he would come out, look at the yard, say a price, and mow it. The number agreed and set up a date for next Tuesday, claiming to be off of work that day.
That caught him off guard a little. What Kook worked? But none the less, he took the job needing the money.
She had took off Tuesdays for house work. She was so close to being done with painting the inside of the house. It took forever to clean it enough to do anything in the house she determined to be a shack. But today she was gonna finish painting the inside of this damn house.
She was so determined to finish this house and start on staining the porch that she forced herself to woke up at 7 in the morning.
“Come on puppies” she yawned and swung her legs over to the side of the bed. The dogs followed her everywhere she went until she placed food in their bowls and got together her breakfast of iced coffee and toast. Than out in the yard, the dogs got to used the bathroom and the chickens got their breakfast plus some clean water. The girl greeted each chicken
“Good morning, willow.” She smiled at the golden bigger chicken. “Good morning, Murphy” she petted the fluffy black chicken and finally “good morning Louis” she bowed to the black and brown rooster. Each watching spoke to her through a bunch of clucks.
She parted from the chickens and called the dogs in. She was getting to work. Finish the door ways and doors. The open windows gave great lighting and a breeze to the stuffy shack.
JJ cursed himself as he looked at the time. It was gonna be hot as hell and he was going to mow a lawn. Glancing at the address again, something stuck out.
“Yo, John B” he called over his friend near by “isn’t this an address in the cut?”
The taller brunette look over the address. “Oh yeah, that’s like right up the road.” He paused before asking “why do you have this address?”
“Someone asked me to mow there”
“Oh, I think someone new lives there or something. I saw a chick there with a sick car. You would have thought she’s from figure 8”
“Oh you mean the new Jeep riding around the island? With the blue logos and stuff?”
“Yeah that’s the one”
The boys continue to bantered about theories of the girl. Why would someone with a sweet car be living in the cut? Why would a lone girl move in to the Abandon house at the end of the street?
The conversation soon stopped and JJ made his way to the house with his push mower.
Already sweating by the time he got there, he cursed that he didn’t do this earlier in the morning or just showed up really late. He also cursed whatever God or Gods their was that he couldn’t swindle more money out of a kook today.
The house was old, and he couldn’t remember the last time someone was in this house until now. The windows were opened and JJ couldn’t help but look. This chick was hot. An old tank top and shorts showed off her body. Her dirty Blonde hair was pulled back.
Making his way to the door, he knocked, than noticed it might have been a mistake. Dog barks flooded his ears. He heard someone else “enough” before the barking started. Than suddenly the door was pulled open.
“Oh hello” the girl smiled friendly. She was obviously new around her. He knew everyone around these parts and had never once seen this girl. Dark blue eyes shined at him though. She was obviously friendly.
“You texted me about mowing” he stated lamely like he’d never done this before. She noticed his blonde hair first. It was messy but a good messy. She decided it fit his style of a muscle tank top, shorts, and converses. She wanted to be a smart ass in the moment and ask if he was here to mow or here to skate. He looked like a straight up skater boy. But she held her tounge.
“Um, yeah. I did” she mental cringed at her lame response but her anxiety started kicking in. ‘Stupid, so lame’ she scolded herself.
“Well I’ll charge 40 bucks. It’s not that big of a yard.” He state finally looking away from her and towards the yard. Honestly he would have charged anyone of his regular clients 60-85 bucks for even mowing half of their yard but something stopped him.
“Okay, let me get that for you” she dispersed for a second, going into some side door. Leaving the boy in front of a wide open entrance to her house. Though he didn’t step in. Just merely gazed.
He took note how the walls were freshly painted a light blue/grey. The floors seemed extremely clean. Very minimal furniture in what seemed to be the living room. Just an ugly looking couch, and a brown tv stand holding up the oldest tv he’d ever seen. He could also see the small kitchen from where he stood.
Before he took notice of anything else she walked back out.
“Here you go, and here’s a water bottle. It’s getting hot outside.” She handed him some cash and a water. He counted the money.
“Oh, you gave me an extra 20” he started to hand back the extra money.
“I know what I paid you” she refused to take the cash. “I’ll be outside working in a little bit, so don’t be alarmed. Oh and the chickens will be scared of the lawn mower but will love the extra grass you end up blowing at them” she smiled again.
“Oh um...” he scratched the back of his neck in slight embarrassment before sticking out his hand “I’m JJ Maybanks.”
Her smile got wider as she shook his hand. “I’m Finley Kate”

Hot Texas Cop (Part 2)
Tumblr media
Summary: Sheriff Ackles isn’t a big fan of being recognized in public...
Part 1
Pairing: Sheriff!Jensen x reader
Word Count: 1,800ish
Warnings: language, implied future smut, wee bit of angst
“Hi,” said your waitress at the bar, a bit too flirty for your taste. Jensen was polite though and ordered you both another pair of beers, the waitress all but ignoring the fact you were a foot away from your husband. “Are you...are you that guy from the commercial? The Hot Texas Cop?”
“No, sorry. I get that a lot though,” said Jensen, Jared and Gen walking inside, Jared slapping Jensen on the back.
“Sheriff Ackles, got off early tonight, huh? Although you do have a habit of getting off...” trailed off Jared when he saw the waitress there. “Hi. Can we get two more of what they’re having?”
“Sure thing,” she said, flashing Jensen a wink that made him groan.
“Thanks Jare,” mumbled Jensen, resting his chin in his hand, closing his eyes.
“Come on. It’s just your fifteen minutes of fame,” said Jared. Jensen grumbled, the waitress back with the two beers, giving you a fake smile as she left. “So, we still on for this weekend?”
“You boys can go run around in the woods while we have a girls night? Duh,” said Gen.
“When are we ever going to find out what happens at girls night?” asked Jensen with a smirk.
“Nope,” said Gen.
“I’d die before I told,” you said, snickering when Gen gave you a smile.
“I got ways of making uncooperative assets talk,” he said, lifting his chin.
“Oh really? Want to bet on it?” you said, sipping on your beer, staring him down.
“Might have to do a little private interrogation tonight,” he said, flashing you a wink.
“In your dreams, Ackles,” you said, Jensen chuckling but giving you a smirk regardless.
You only had the one drink, knowing Jensen was having a rough week with the whole new nickname thing. He really didn’t like attention like that. He knew he had a pretty face. Sometimes people just saw that and not the real him. A sweet, quiet, sometimes dirty, Texas boy that just wanted to put a little good out into the world.
You reached your hand under the table and found his, giving it a squeeze, his shoulders relaxing as he listened to Jared go on about something.
Then your friends were getting up, Gen pushing Jared out the door, saying she’d swing by your place at six the next night.
“Jens?” you asked as he threw down some money on the table, giving you another smile. You moved your hand away from his, resting it on his thigh, sliding it up innocently enough, stopping before you got anywhere too bad. “I think when we get home...maybe you see how cooperative you can get me to be.”
“My good girl wants to be bad tonight?” he murmured, raising an eyebrow. “How bad’s she been?”
“Very bad,” you said, leaning in close. “I mean, the whole state thinks your the Hot Texas Cop but I’m the only one he takes home and makes his, aren’t I?”
“Yes, you are,” he breathed out, giving you a slightly buzzed kiss, a bit more open affection than you got from him in public but he didn’t seem to care. “Gonna take you home and show you what you get for calling me that again.”
“Do your worst,” you said, grabbing his hand and sliding off the stool.
“Oh, I will,” he said, fishing his keys in his pocket, handing them to you, a moment of softness on his face. “All set?”
“Mhm,” you said, tugging him after you, a long and low whistle coming from a crowded table. You rolled your eyes, Jensen huffing but he wouldn’t go picking a fight, he knew better.
“Ain’t that the pretty boy from the TV?” said one, Jensen stopping dead in his tracks. He turned to look at them, a few of them nodding.
“Yeah, it’s the cop,” said another. You saw three of them get up, followed by two more. Jensen started to walk with you again, another whistle leaving the group. “Hey, I was talking to you officer. I got a compliant I want to make.”
“I’m off shift. Call your local precinct for any complaints,” said Jensen, putting on his sheriff voice. A few more chairs scarped against the floor, a few more guys up now, some of them blocking the way towards the exit.
“No, see. I got this compliant about all these cops that go around shootin’ off their guns like it’s nobody’s business. See, I got a fine, a big ass fine, for shooting my gun off in my backyard. I wasn’t bothering nobody,” he said.
“Sir, you cannot discharge a weapon within-”
“Within so many feet, yeah yeah. But see, you don’t have those rules, do you? I bet you’re packing right now,” he said. Jensen didn’t say anything, simply moved his hand to your wrist, almost painfully hard. Whatever was about to happen, he wasn’t letting you go.
He took a step forward, pausing when his path was still blocked.
“I’m a sheriff and there are civilians here,” said Jensen. “Whatever you want to do, I suggest you don’t.”
“Oh, cocky. You like that sweetheart?” said one of the men to you.
“Oh please. You’ve seen this guy. She’s totally the top,” he said. Jensen was gnawing on his bottom lip and yanked on your arm, shoving one of the guys aside before he was outside with you and across the parking lot.
“Jensen,” you said, grabbing at his hand. “Jay, you can let go.”
He didn’t say a word, just snatched the keys out of your hands, as sober as ever now, ripping open the passenger side of his truck and practically picking you up himself to get inside. You stared at him as he got in and drove home, Jensen’s face hard set.
You got out and followed him inside, washing up in the kitchen, Jensen grabbing your forearm when you finished.
“Jensen,” you said. He walked to the freezer and pulled out an ice pack, one already in the fabric bandage, wrapping it around your wrist and sticking the velcro down.
“Take that off in fifteen minutes,” he said quietly, dropping his hand away. He jogged up the stairs to the bedroom.
“Hey,” you said, chasing after him. He was already in the shower by the time you got up there. You flung open the bathroom door and ripped open the glass shower one, Jensen not in there. “Jay?”
You looked around and went back to your room, stepping in the closet but he wasn’t there either. He’d definitely gone upstairs, there was no way he could have gotten past you. You walked around to the other rooms and loft, nothing out of the ordinary. Back in the bedroom you spotted one of the curtains flowing lightly. You sighed and stepped over to the screened in small balcony, Jensen leaning against the railing, staring out at the dark yard.
“Jensen?” you asked.
“I shouldn’t have done that stupid commercial,” he said. “I just want this to be over with, go back to thugs in bars not harassing us.”
“You never gave the commercial guys an answer on doing more, right? Tell them no. You know what? A lot of actors come from Texas. Maybe you could pitch that idea to them,” you said. Jensen smirked, shaking his head.
“You already talked to Jared about this, didn’t you,” he said.
“He is an actor...and he’s used to a little attention,” you said. “Your best friend sort of noticed you’ve been off lately.”
“Sometimes it’s scary how good you can read me. Almost like you had police training,” he said, scratching the back of his head.
“Almost like I’ve known you since you were four, Ackles,” you said, Jensen blushing slightly.
“Shut up, Ackles,” he shot back.
“Oh, nice comeback,” you said, taking his hand. “Come on, it’s too chilly out. Inside before you catch a cold.”
“You just want to get me naked,” he said, lifting his chin, putting a sway in his hips.
“Oh yeah, that’s it,” you said, locking up the door as he headed for the shower. “Jensen...why does the attention get to you? I know you’re a reserved person and I love that about you but I don’t understand it I guess.”
“If it was just a bit of extra attention on me, it’d probably stress me out a little but I’d be okay with it...you really don’t realize, do you?” he said softly.
“Realize what?” you asked.
“It makes doing my job a bit harder,” he said.
“Cops get attention all the time,” you said.
“Not that job, this one, right here,” he said. “Your husband.”
“What?”
“Take tonight for example. If that had escalated, I can think of a million horrible things that could have happened to you. The most important job I’ll ever have is keeping you safe,” he said. “Being a well known cop...bad mix in my opinion to do that job.”
“Well thank you. Even if you do always worry to much,” you said.
“I’ve been getting that since I was four,” he chuckled, eyes going to your wrist. “I’m sorry about earlier. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen, wanted you close by.”
“I was going to give you more bruises than this later for much more fun reasons,” you said, giving him a wink.
“Only if you ice that wrist and it doesn’t hurt too much,” he said.
“Yeah, yeah. Now get that cute tush in the shower while I give Jared a call about replacing Hot Texas Cop.”
Two Weeks Later
It hadn’t taken long for Jensen to stop getting recognized, especially once Jared’s commercial aired. He was regular old sheriff Ackles again, happy to pull over speeder’s, train the new recruits and do his patrols. Still...that didn’t mean his nickname had to completely fade away.
“I brought home dinner,” said Jensen, plopping down a few bags on the kitchen counter, giving you a hug and kiss when you hopped up from the couch. “How was your-what the hell are you wearing?”
“My new shirt,” you said, walking past him wearing the shirt with HOT TEXAS COP written on the front of it. “You like it?”
“I’m gonna have to take that off you now you realize,” he said with a dramatic sigh. “You’ve forced my hand, really.”
“After dinner?” you asked, giving him your puppy dog eyes.
“After dinner, sweetheart,” he hummed, pulling out the containers. “Y/N?”
“Hm?”
“It’s a cute shirt. I like it,” he said.
“Love you too, Jens.”

Happy Birthday Ashley I love you sissy hope this is still good there is a lot I had to redo so not my best work but me and Donatello wanted it to be the best day for you
At first he had struggled in what to get Ashley for her birthday after some online shopping he had found her a few small gifts but – it never seemed like enough for the woman that had done so much for him and his family
She had left her life behind when they had been forced to leave the city, had been chased through the sewers by the Purple Dragons so stressed she had gone into labor with their twins and had been forced to quit her amazing job after his psychotic clone had tried to kill her while she was pregnant with their son, had given him three beautiful kids and in a couple of months would be giving him a fourth even if her creation was anything but a unhappy occurrence he was excited to be a father again and face this new path in life as long as she and his family were at his side
Since coming to the cabin she and the others made it a home but lately he had noticed her nesting constantly always moving around the house finding something that needed done since the accident which had left Angel’s blind to keep her sister from having to do much, she was a hell of a mother always taking care the babies; Vincent on her hip at all times when he wasn’t running her ragged with his games the girl’s following her like little ducklings, if she let him he tried to give her some much needed down time by taking the kids or getting his brother’s to help while she got to have a relaxing bath or a few hours to herself
Ashley had given so much in their relationship, done so much just to be with him, had gone through things he wished he could erase from her mind and he wanted to make the day of her birth better then every other day to show just how much he cherished the woman of his dreams
In all honestly all of them were content living at the cabin even Leo was starting to relax more; up there they found a freedom none of them had thought possible most of the kids had never saw the inside of the sewers and to this moment there was no need to go back since he continued monitoring showing crime had hit an all time low since the clones had vanished and the city had shut down, it made them uncomfortably nervous for a while wondering what was coming but after a long talk with the Chief it was stated they should stay out of the city for as long as possible to keep their family safe
With both crime groups missing they were on edge but they were safe until the time they felt he pull to return and as Maser Splinter liked to say the universe would tell them what path to take
Why jinx a good thing when the Foot and Dragon’s where silent and if they were needed they were just a call away few hours at most to return unless Angel could get up enough strength to get them there instantly, and since the last week had been rough on he redhead in that he had formed his plan finally knowing where they were going for her birthday
His first step was prying his body out of bed so early every day leaving the warmth of his bed and sneaking away for hours at a time always coming back just as everyone started lunch never telling any of them where he disappeared to every morning sometimes slipping away again to the barn making something that they would never see once he finished falling into bed every night so tired he was out in seconds
He might have been working harder then he had in a while but it was for his special someone
At the end of the day it was worth every second he spent working himself to exhaustion
They had quickly passed out after an active night of family time, games, and the struggle of getting all the kids to actually go to bed after he had finally gotten Rosie to lay down by placing her next to Killian shaking his head at how fast she fell asleep once the Raph’s son was hugging her and calming Vincent who was being clingy tonight
By the time he had walked into his bedroom Ashley had passed out just before midnight looking so adorable still only halfway in bed her hair framing her head like a halo
Getting undressed the turtle sighed picking his wife up climbing into bed pulling her into his arms and nuzzling into her neck wanting to give her a ‘early present’ after finally getting a moment alone hearing her moan as he played with her neck but before he could start anything she was sound asleep limp in his arms
How could his the redheaded love get any cuter?
As it just so happened she could do it so easily; his wife giggled in her sleep curling into him obviously having good dreams of him he had hoped, she needed her sleep knowing she was so exhausted he kissed her lips settling down into the bed knocking out just as fast with her cuddled up to him
Unwillingly he rolled out as Vincent started fussing for him wanting his milk from mommy seeing Ash still out cold he covered her up to let her sleep as long as she needed, he yawned and stretched out his limbs as he stepped into the room finding his baby sister passed out in the rocking chair with her two infants who must have been hungry earlier then normal nursing as she slept having looked to have just passed out the genius carefully picked her up placing the small woman in the crib with the still suckling infants covering the three up with a blanket until Leo could come to get her
Kissing his son’s head he lifted the little turtle heading down the stairs to find Angel struggling to make breakfast alone “What did I tell you about sleeping in…” she waved him off as the turtle kissed the woman’s head before catching the bowl she almost dropped “Always so stubborn- Need any help?” she was supposed to be on bed rest and had somehow slipped out of one of her mates bed without waking them telling him she had it as she mixed the batter for pancakes
Her being both blind and heavily pregnant hadn’t slowed her down by much
He started sneaking around behind her while preparing the bottle flipping her food and prepared his coffee multitasking while bouncing the cranky child until Mikey appeared from outside moving closer to help his mate nuzzling in behind her begging for her to act sick so he could stay home already hearing Leonardo yelling for them to come on in his normal annoying drill sergeant voice; muttering under his breath he cursed himself for forgetting they were training today seeing Raphael was in the same state of mind as him looking like he might be in a mood for once
Already her birthday wasn’t going as planned he wasn’t supposed to have work or training today
“Faith is on baby duty with Angel while we are gone – she will be sitting down helping only if needed and keeping her feet up are we clear! I don’t want to hear any arguments we aren’t having any more preemie births this one is staying in for as long as possible” Leo commanded as he passed through grabbing some bacon and toast while carefully pushing the woman out of the kitchen as the angel gave him a dirty look sticking her tongue out at the leaders retreating shell, he chuckled as she gave letting Mikey finish what was on the stove that the genius had already turned off, taking her little Vinnie telling him to ignore the grouchy male and that while Daddy was out training they were going to have fun taking the bottle from his hand without him really seeing her starting to feed the baby his warmed milk
No amount of complaining or bitching had stopped their older brother from starting the four hour long training regiment Leo had come up with to keep them in shape which consisted of their three mile run on the smaller trails, the weird and uncalled for obstacle course right in the middle before they had to run another mile, one ten minute break to catch their breaths before finishing up in the clearing where Leo was trying to kill them, it blew over into an extra thirty minutes after each of them had messed up in something until all of them were so tired they collapsed onto the ground refusing to do any more
The leader was displeased but the younger three turtles agreed – fuck him this was bullshit
Once Leo accepted they were done, called them for the day, and Donnie could feel his legs again he had hurried back to the cabin to shower stopping long enough to get some wildflowers for Ashley placing them in a vase with water seeing the two teenagers had the frozen movie on entertaining all of the kids and Angel was out placing the laundry on the line to dry the massive form of Leatherhead making her look so small as he guided her hand, going up the stairs finding his beautiful queen still curled up in bed to his relief.
Quietly he placed the new bouquet on her side table before hurrying for a quick shower
He wasn’t in there long before a set of arms was around him finding his wife who must had been awake after all pulling her close kissing her softly whispering against her lips as she teased him “Happy Birthday baby”
He was a bit disappointed having wanted to wake her with breakfast in bed but figured her waking up early without anyone disturbing her had been an unforeseen change groaning as she traced his arms complimenting him before he had captured her lips again letting the hot water pour over them as they held one another
They fooled around light touches formed from loving words and so many kisses before the frantic tapping on the locked bathroom door had him growling when he Mikey yelling he needed Donnie to hurry obviously not knowing he had company
After washing the two of them up he had carried her to the room shooting his brother a dirty side glance for ruining the fun but took the chance to lock their door before placing her on the bed and proceeded to worship her still damp body having her laughing and squirming while he loved on his wife both falling into a deep make out session spending a little more time in bed their nude bodies pressed so close yet he never took it any further
After a while the turtle reached over pulling a pink bag from the floor smiling as he waved it in front of her as she squealed in excitement telling him at least ten times he hadn’t needed to get her anything but on her extraordinary day he wanted to make her feel special and show her just how much he adored her placing it in her lap watching her open it pulling out a gorgeous purple and pink plaid dress shirt with leggings to go with the new shoes April was giving her
He had seen the outfit while searching the web months ago and although he knew she didn’t wear dresses often he though how fitting it would be, smirking at her amazed expression kissing her neck before moving away grabbing her stuff from the dresser and placing it in the bed so she didn’t have to search for anything kissing her once more before telling her to get ready as he got dressed
“Brunch for my girls in fifteen I really want to see it on you”
God she didn’t disappoint; he was halfway done making them food just after his brother’s returned from dropping off all the stuff he had asked them to take to where he had found when she came down everyone complimenting her on how beautiful she looked except the angel who simply took her sister looked radiant as ever stepping closer placing a broached clip in her hair to hold her red locks back from her face
He was still standing there gazing at her lovingly before the winged woman sniffed the air telling him any longer and he was going to burn everything making the genius scrambled to get it all pulled up just finishing as she stepped in the door grinning as she spun for him
As he leaned in to kiss her the kids ran in pulling the younger children in a basket they had tied a rope to surprising her with handmade cards and drawings each had made giggling as she adored them and hung eack on the fridge to see everyday
They finally sat down to eat after the kids had been ushered to the living room for reading time as Donnie placed a small bowl of french vanilla yogurt topped with sliced of almonds, chunks of white chocolate, apple slices and fresh raspberries topped off with a dash of cinnamon over it all, he had also made toast and gotten Ashley her tea knowing how much she needed it to get through her day having laxed in the last few months on his suggested healthy treats in order to keep a happy wife and instead just snuck them in here and there
To his amazement she ate everything without a problem looking pleased with his meal even grabbing a little more toast to nibble on as the turtle adored her and the baby bump
Since it was so late in the day they watched a movie with the kids until they had went down for their naps, the adults getting a much needed break to just relax and talk until Evangeline and Junior got into an argument crying over a toy they both wanted making Raph go up to break up the fighting but by the time he got up there all the kids were wide eyed waiting on him calling Mikey to help him carry them down
The girls giggled as both turtles walked down their arms full with all the little ones Lily and Rose hanging off their Uncle Raphie’s arm as Killian came scooting down the stairs like his mother tended to do when nobody was around to help her down the stairs laughing each time he plopped down on his butt seeing all the babies so active called for play time outside
Donnie remained on the porch with Ashley at his side watching the girls Rosie dragging Killian around the garden not that the little boy seemed to care, Raven and Faith were playing with Fayre, Shadow, Junior, and Sawyer making little flowered crowns and braiding the kids flowers into their hair, and Angel was sprawled out on the grass with the others playing with the kids who had taken to using the turtles as their personal jungle gym
“Tonight – what do you say to you and me getting away for a little bit? Have an adventure?” he saw the question in her eyes as he tilted her chin kissing his wife sweetly asking once more to get her excited yes
The day may have not started off how he wanted but tonight would go off well if he had to pay his family to give them some privacy, when they went inside to start dinner Angel and the twin teenagers surprised them having made her favorite special meal, baked her a beautifully decorated chocolate cake with fresh strawberries between the layers the night before and secretly had decorated the whole room just for the woman who made life so much fun
Tonight they were going to have a family party before Donnie whisked her away
They partied into the night Raphael drinking too much had dragged Leo into the fun after getting the leader to indulge a little making the evening more interesting as the two alpha’s got along better then normal everyone waiting until the kids had passed out getting their little ones in bed before giving Ashley their gifts
Since they had been out at the cabin for a while April and Casey had decided to go into town buying the redhead five new outfits, two new comfortable shoes, and a purse the man had found that came with a defensive pack after what had happened with the poachers it seemed like a good idea
Leo and Raven had made her some candles in her favorite scent with her favorite flowers forever entrapped in the lovely purple wax
Raph and Angel had went all out and made her a dream catcher out of wood and dried flowers with small shiny pebbles and the feathers Angel had lost off her wings hanging off the hoop they had worked thin twine around in an intricate pattern
Raven with the help of Leatherhead had gone to the lake and had found all sorts of shells, pebbles, and lost treasures crafting them onto a wooden frame with their family picture they had captured a few weeks back
Mikey had painted her the spot she loved to go when they went hiking on a piece of wood he had sanded smooth
Faith although new to the family made Ashley a crown from wild flowers which haloed her head beautifully
Once the guys got to the point they were getting handsy with their mates and the humans had passed out Donatello grabbed his queen’s hand pulling her with him out the door finding the truck already running “Ready for our adventure” her smile was all he needed as he picked her up placing her in the front seat beside him heading out behind the house where he had asked her and the others to not go since it was uncharted what was out there
They drove for almost fifteen minutes before the turtle stopped his high beams shining on a small cabin hidden in the trees looking over as his wife asked him several questions before he parked offering her his hand helping her out of the truck before grabbing two bags his sisters had packed for him in the cool night the fireflies drifting through the misty air have it an bewitching ambiance
“Happy Birthday” as they stepped in it was obvious somebody had been there earlier – for as old as it looked it had been cleaned spotless fresh flowers were in a vase in the small table and there was a nice fire roaring on one wall warming the whole place
Ashley had walked towards the small living area as he pushed a door off to the side open revealing a room set up with new sheets and anything they could need smiling as he came back to see the pure joy on her face as if this were the most enchanting destination on the planet before she was looking at him questioningly
“I can’t take you anywhere fancy like Paris or Rome… I couldn’t give you a dream honeymoon to Europe but–” he smiled at the shocked look his wife gave him as he pulled off his hoodie dropping it over the chair eyeing her up and down before moving closer picking her up carrying her to the large bed “I can give you all my love, hard work in knowing I fixed this up just for you, and the knowledge of knowing that for the next week this is where you and me will be alone to celebrate my worlds birthday and the honeymoon we never g0t to have”
Rose petals made a trail to the soft looking bed, inside several candles were flickering around them and on the side table was a metal bucket of melting ice and a bottle of *non-alcoholic* sparkling juice to act as wine gently laying her down as he crawled over the woman his smile might have been her only warning to what he was thinking before she pushed him back asking him to give her a second grabbing her bag he had carried in and disappeared into the bathroom
Her absence gave him time to scurry around doing a few final checks and get comfortable undressing to save time just laying down on the bed before the bathroom opened
His eyes widened as she stepped out in a sheer lingerie set she had to have bought for their wedding night looking her over as she came closer blushing as the turtle looked at her in a way he hadn’t done since they had met back on November third three and a half years ago; like she was a goddess in human form sent to plague his universe with those thick hips, bright eyes, and loving smile setting off feelings he had never thought he deserved back before he met the redhead beauty filling him with those searing emotions nobody had ever came close to giving the mutant
But he loved that feeling craving it the same now as he did back then
He leaned up helping her onto the mattress noticing for the first time she had put on just a little make up and although she never need it there was just something it added to the whole portrait that was his woman loving how the dark lashes brought out her eyes that much more his hands being so careful to not damage her sheer outfit officially finding out of all the little numbers she had pulled out this – this one was his favorite
Each touch showed his appreciation the soft silky fabric complimented her so well loving how it showed off her baby bump churring as she touched him in a way that had him on edge yet so grounded in this moment
Donatello didn’t waste a second pulling her into his arms to kiss his wife deeply his finger tips tracing each curve he loved so much moving slowly to savor every moment; they had all week to go crazy tomorrow his heat could take control but tonight was special and that meant he was going to ignore that feral side she brought out during this time of year take his time in pleasuring her until she found heaven and then he’s take her even higher
His lips finally trailed down lower drifting over her neck nibbling at her smooth flesh, her hands on his body left him breathless and craving her even more but he still moved slowly marking her neck when she took hold of the unyielding mass between his legs getting a deep growl as he pushed her to lay down letting her tease him as he focused fully on his task
Her femininity was his drug and the sweet scent of her arousal made him drunk with every passing second
The turtles kisses went lower over her breast carefully uncovering one large mound then the other kissing and licking at the over sensitive peaks before he was sucking at the hardened tips churring happily at the sweet sounds he was getting her head dropping back on the bed moaning for him already, her body always so sensitive yet so appeasing to him loving how he could get her so worked up by just his planned out touches knowing her body as well as he did his own
The pulling of his lips on her nipples drew some of the sweetest praises and heated demands but none more so then when he slowly went lower worshipping her body the entire time gradually pulling her panties down her legs kissing wherever he could opening her hips to him looking up at the woman who was already breathing hard pleading for the turtle; that shining grin egging him to continue as he kissed up her thighs to his prize yet waited until she was begging for her husband to move closer
His mouth finally met the soaked lower lips and he devoured her enthusiastically his hands sending shivers through her system from the care he took, the echoing pulses that squeezed his tongue making him groan and growl with his desire as he brought her to the ledge so slowly until finally he touched the pearl he had avoided doubling his actions just to see his wife teetering on the edge
Her voice was his breaking point the second she cried out cumming on his tongue his body burned to move wanting to just push into her and pound her into the mattress but he waited lapping up his mess until she had grabbed his shoulders calling his name before her fingers caught the tails of his mask tugging on him until finally he came up over her kissing her hard as she stroked his throbbing cock pre leaking from the tip only lubricated her actions
She moaned as he thrust into her hand begging needily wanting him to take her and he could never say no to her and before she could say another word he had pulled her lower on the bed under him hooking one arm under her leg sitting up to take in every radiant feature before pushing against her irresistible heat finding himself lost in her beautiful eyes as he finally let himself sink in
Both were breathing heavily when she started moving first getting a deep growl as he finally thrust forward losing his mind at how perfect she felt, between her lust filled cries mixing with his resounding churrs as he filled her completely each time being so gentle in making love to her just like he had their first time his fingers tangling in the soft red curls as he kept his gaze on her tear filled orbs
Sweat dripped down his tense body rolling off his muscles as time slipped away until it was just them in the dark only the flickering of the dying candles providing light after the fire had burned out hearing her sharp cry as she soaked his thighs cumming suddenly making him slow down not wanting to end this before he was done
The room was filled with their heavy breathing and no matter how much she tugged at him he never settled his full weight on her always cautious of the swollen belly smiling as he saw her eyes start to roll when his movements increased giving her a few rough thrust once he couldn’t hold back
Ashley had grabbed onto his arms as her legs were pulled up his hips hearing him whispering he was close while she was voicing her pleasure just as he felt the woman’s finish started to wash over those heightened senses groaning against the soft swollen lips still lovingly kissing his own before he was rutting into her fast
Fists tangled into the sheets as dawn drifted through the forest around them the soft morning light drifting in though the covered windows, skin clapped as both bodies finally drew in close, and just as he felt the pressure become too much in his lower stomach he gave her what she had been pleading for
The shrill sound of her finish filled the air as she slammed tight locking up in his arms and he followed only seconds later grunting and churring as she held him in place until his cum filled her in thick spurts
His resounding moans rumbled the air as she took everything he had so lost in their passion the morning song birds told them it was time to start their day but he didn’t care looking up as her eyes drifted open and that sweet smile graced him, he nuzzled into her as she wrapped her arms around him once he finally felt his body rolling them to the side he didn’t pull away cradling his queen within his arms still happily connected with her too tired to even attempt to move once he was resting on the bed
Exhaustion hit them like a train once the high had dissipated his eyes fluttering closed just after hers falling asleep easily with his love beside him so content he slept peacefully until the light of the mid afternoon sun made him groan turning over on his side to escape the light only to feel a small hand caressing his cheek so lovingly pulled him to consciousness
Once his honey brown eyes opened he couldn’t help but smile seeing his beautiful wife still laying there her red curls wild and frizzed from their earlier actions, having probably gotten up a while ago her full figure now nude to his eyes barely covered by the blanket making him churr as he pulled her back against him fingers trailing over the smooth skin of her hips and eyeing her with a knowing grin as she climbed on top of him straddling his hips
Every promise he had made to make their honeymoon better then ever was at the top of their list of things to do today wondering if they would even leave the room but then again he wouldn’t be complaining with her hormones in over drive and how she was looking at him he decided the plans could be tossed aside for now giving her full control as her lips found his hungrily
This birthday week was about to really kick off with a round three

You Say It Softly//9//Drifting Closer
Tumblr media
Jim runs into some ghosts from his past.
Smut Warning
more of these two at the link in my bio!
send me any thoughts about these two and ideas for future parts!
special thanks to @and-shes-not-even-pretty for her help on crafting the plot of this part
Leah was gently roused from sleep by the sound of the front door opening and closing, William’s infectious giggling echoing off the walls. She smiled. This was her favorite way to wake up. Her three-year-old as her alarm clock. Following his laughter was Jim trying to shush him at the same time as he was chuckling himself. They must have just gotten back from their morning walk with the two balls of white fluff that had recently come into their lives. The vet had said they were a Samoyed mix but of what, she couldn’t tell. Every morning, Jim and William would wake up and take the dogs for a walk. Sometimes they stopped for a little treat from the cafe that was along the route like a chocolate croissant and then on the weekends, they would stop at the food trucks along the beach and grab breakfast. The sound of foil rustling in the kitchen made her stomach grumble and she figured she should grace them with her presence.
“Did my little loves get breakfast all ready for me this morning?”
“Mommy!” William’s little feet carried him over to her quickly, jumping up and down in front of her as a signal that he wanted to be picked up. She did so, his arms wrapping around her neck and squeezing her tightly against him on impact. “Got you a ‘rito.” Leah chuckled at his pronunciation of the breakfast burrito she enjoyed so much from one of the food trucks.
“Why thank you, little prince.” He squirmed his way down from her hip, grasping her hand and leading her to the kitchen table where Jim was filling a sippy cup with apple juice and two mugs with coffee.
“Papa, I got her!” Jim looked up with a smile. It felt good to be happy. Having Leah in his life had always felt like a blessing he didn’t deserve but now adding William to the mix made him over the moon.
“Good morning, Papa,” she whispered as Jim pressed his lips gently against hers.
“Morning, Sugar.” Leah hummed with happiness as she let her hands drift around his waist and down to his butt where she took a generous squeeze. “Someone is in a good mood this morning.”
“I’m just so freaking excited for my burrito!” She pumped her fist into the air before sliding into the corner booth where William was already sitting and happily munching on some breakfast potatoes. “How were the doggies this morning?”
“Ollie pooped a lot,” William said as though it had been the most exhausting feature of his little life thus far.
“Our little prince picked it all up though,” Jim added. Leah motioned towards her chin to signal to him that he had egg yolk dripping off his.
“Daddy showed me how!” When Jim and William had come home with the two dogs in the middle of the night, Leah had been adamantly against keeping them. Maybe when William was older they could get a dog. She was certainly not ready to bring in two dirty, wet abandoned puppies for more than the time it took to get them cleaned and to the shelter. Not one to normally disagree with his wife, Jim put up a full court press to keep the puppies. He showed Leah how their son had already bonded with them and to lose them would break his heart. He explained how it would help make him a better person to have something to take care of. Something to have responsibility for. When one of them, now named Nana after the dog in Peter Pan, climbed into her lap and tucked itself onto her shoulder and promptly fell asleep, she acquiesced. But only with the condition that Jim and William handled the things that came out of the dog. Leah wanted nothing to do with it. And, so far, the two of them had been handling it swimmingly.
“That’s good, my love. The doggies love you so much,” she replied as she gently stroked his soft, brown curls.
“I love them too!” After all the talk of the dogs, William asked if he could go play with them. He ate his apple slices in record timing before slipping down the booth and under the table to go and see what they were up to in the living room.
“How did we get blessed with the sweetest little baby boy in the entire world?” Leah was peering over the top of the booth to see William doing a puzzle while resting his head on Ollie’s tummy.
“Cause he’s half sugar,” Jim teased as he closed the distance between them, pulling down the top of her robe so he could press kisses to her shoulder.
“You’re a little extra lovey today.” He had gotten a little handsy under the covers with her that morning before William had awoken and was ready to walk the dogs and get breakfast.
“Been feeling extra grateful for you lately.” The ebb and flow of Jim’s mood was natural, as it would be for any human being, but they tended to hit higher highs and lower lows than the average person. A few weeks ago had been a low for Jim. There were still days when he woke up and his mind tried to play tricks on him. Tell him that he would need a substance in order to get through. Therapy helped. Having Leah and William there helped. Even having the dogs was helping. Jim knew there was no cure for his addiction. Only management.
“I’m so proud of you, Jimmy.” Everyday. Leah tried to slip in how proud she was of her husband. He fought hard to be the husband and father that he was today. And he was damn good at both.
“Couldn’t be half the man I am today, Sugar, without you and our little prince.” She blushed and smiled as she always did when Jim offered her a compliment before cupping his cheek and leaning in for a kiss.
“He’s also half you, Sprinkles. The half of you is what makes him run down the beach butt naked. Your DNA makes him incapable of eating dessert without smearing it all over his cheeks.”
“That’s…” Jim struggled to find an argument against her point, “true.”
“If you want me to make that sweet potato hash tonight then we have to make a grocery store trip,” Leah said around a biteful of her breakfast.
“We?” Jim was shocked. Leah hated the grocery store more than anything. She loved baking and cooking but dreaded making the trip for the ingredients.
“Yes, we. I was home late like every night this past week. Today and tomorrow are family days.” He knew that she had been shouldering some guilt. A pediatrician at the local hospital was on maternity leave and Leah had been asked if she could cover some of her shift. It had meant missing bathtime and bedtime for a few nights. “I feel awful you’ve been having to do it all alone. I feel awful that William said he missed me the other night.” Jim hadn’t meant for that remark to hurt her feelings. He thought she would find it sweet that their son missed her.
“You’re helping other parents have more time with their bubs. Saving them and making them feel better. Me and William will always be here waiting for you. And maybe in the next year or so...another little one can be?” Jim thinks he had stronger baby fever than his wife. Nothing made him happier than being a dad. William started preschool soon and Jim was preemptively missing his presence around the house.
“I think another little one could make an appearance soon,” she whispered back as he dropped his forehead to hers.
“You gonna make a baby with me, Sugar?” The smile on his face was so wide it hurt. The days of Jim feeling inadequate and incapable were fewer and further between.
“Well, I do make beautiful babies and I have no other options currently for someone else to make them with…” Jim dug his fingers into her side for a tickle punishment. Her laughter echoed around the kitchen, William running in to see what all the commotion was about.
“Tickle monster?”
“He’ll get you too!” Jim roared as he moved to reach his son.
“No, Daddy! I have to-” William’s warning went unheeded as Jim’s fingers nestled into the perfect tickle spot. But he wasn’t laughing. Leah watched on in horror as her son’s eyes widened and then a dark spot bloomed on his blue shorts.
“Jim! Stop!” She pushed him aside, grabbing William under his arms and sprinted to the bathroom as fast as she could. He was now sobbing in her arms.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” William had been a natural at potty training. He was so excited for preschool and he knew that he needed to use the potty before he could go. This was a minor setback and it devastated him.
“It’s ok, bubba. Even Mommy pees a little when the tickle monster comes.” It was true. Who didn’t leak a bit in the throws of laughter? “How about we get in the shower and get all clean?” He nodded and sniffled in an attempt to keep the tears at bay. William was embarrassed. So badly he wanted to be a big boy for his mama and papa. Leah helped him get all cleaned up and wrapped in his hooded fish towel.
“Daddy! Special delivery!” he called with a smile. It was something they always did after bathtime. Whichever parent hadn’t bathed him, he would call to come and pick him up and whisk him to his room to put on clothes. Jim came in from where he was cleaning up the kitchen from the mess that had been made and quickly lifted his little bundle of love.
“Daddy is so sorry, little man. He should have been a better listener.”
“I love you, Daddy.” He pressed his little forehead to Jim’s neck, snuggling down as a way to accept his apology and express his love. Leah fell back onto the bathroom floor with a sigh as the two disappeared up the stairs to put on a different outfit for the day.
“Being a mother is exhausting.”
----
They listened to “Baby Shark” on repeat for the entire ride to the grocery store. William had a stuffed shark that Medina had given him not long after he was born and he said it was Sharkys favorite song so they had to listen to it. Leah and Jim sang and danced the whole ride, Leah watching William move Sharky’s fins in time with the beat through her mirror.
“That song might be the death of me,” Jim mumbled under his breath as they got out of the car.
“I know. But it makes him so happy.” Long gone were the days of her and Jim sharing earbuds so he could play her a new indie song or sitting on the beach with his speakers and softly making out to The Neighbourhood. Now they were singing the Paw Patrol theme song.
“Can Sharky come?” William asked as Jim lifted him out of the car.
“Of course, buddy, just make sure he doesn’t let go of your hand.” Jim didn’t want to think about what would happen if Sharky got lost during the trip. They made their way over to the line of carts, William begging to use the one that looked like a car.
“Let me wipe it down first.” Leah reached into her bag and pulled out her emergency stash of Clorox wipes and meticulously cleaned the car. William looked up at his father with eyes that said she’s crazy. Jim just shrugged. “Okay. Disinfected and ready for a driver.” William slid in happily and then poked his head out to look at his father.
“Daddy?”
“Yes, pumpkin?”
“Buckle!” William had been trained to always ask for his seatbelt and to make sure he was always secure in any vehicle. Jim smiled, dropping to one knee and pretending to buckle in his boy. “Sharky too!” Jim leaned over and buckled in the stuffed shark.
“Ok now we are safe and ready to drive.”
----
Jim pushed while Leah had her arms looped through his. She was in charge of crossing things off the list as he put them into the cart. William was steering the car calmly at the end of each aisle, silently honking if someone was in front of him and making a ‘vroom vroom’ sound on occasion.
“Let’s see, all we have left is munchkin’s cereal, brown sugar and butter.”
“Baking aisle comes first so let’s-”
“Mommy? Daddy?” The cart paused as they both went around to the little car and peered inside. “I have to go potty.” Eager to never repeat the incident from this morning, Jim quickly scooped William and Sharky into his arms.
“Grab the cereal on your way back!” Leah called after them. She laughed at the image of her husband speed walking through the grocery store with her son and his stuffed shark. She meandered through the baking aisle, throwing in a bag of chocolate chips to munch on later, before making her way to the refrigerated section.
“Leah?” She looked in horror at the source of her name.
“Heather! Hi! How are you?” Maybe one of the last human beings she ever wanted to see again in her life. Jim’s ex. The girl who always blamed Leah for her life being ruined after their breakup. The girl who kept Jim at all those parties that almost killed him.
“I’m fine. Were all the normal carts taken out front?” She was pointing at the car attachment.
“No, my son-”
“Son? You have children?”
“Just one. You?”
“Not yet. We are trying though.” She flashed her hand so Leah could clearly see the two rings that sat on her finger. Leah looked down at her own hand and realized her rings weren’t on. She must have forgotten to put them back on after the impromptu shower that morning. “Not married?” Heather wore a smirk on her face. Like she had won.
“Actually I am. Just not wearing my rings right now.” Her hope was that she could end this conversation and run away before Jim found them. She didn’t know what seeing Heather would do to him and she didn’t want to find out.
“Did the whole doctor thing end up working out for you?”
“Yes-”
“Tossed Jim aside to be a doctor, right? That’s what I heard.” That caused Leah to take a visible step back from Heather. It was one thing to seem snide over her lack of rings but it was an entirely different beast to bring Jim into this. To imply that Leah had thrown him out with the trash after his overdose in order to pursue a material interest. Her heartbeat quickened and her fingers began to twitch at her sides with the urge to attack and protect. Jim was the man she loved. Would love forever. The man who had given her William, the most precious gift in the world.
“Whoever told you that was extremely mistaken.” Leah gripped the handle of the cart with white knuckles in the hopes it would stop her from lashing out any further. As soon as she made the move to leave the conversation, she heard Jim’s voice.
“Little man wanted the one with Spider-Man on the box, which are honey nut, but he promised me he would eat them.” William and Sharky were on his hip, Jim setting them down once he saw who was with his wife.
“Heather.” He looked as though he had seen a ghost. In a way, he had. She was a relic of his past. A past he had happily buried as soon as he left that rehab facility all those years ago. A past he hadn’t thought of since he had reunited in Stanford with Leah. It had been buried under the love he had for her and his son. The love he had for the potential of their future together.
“Hi, Jim. It’s so good to see you.” Leah wanted to throw up as Heather put on the fakest smile known to man and embraced Jim in a hug. “You’re even more handsome than I remember.” As if he was sensing the tension, William instinctively gripped Sharky a little closer and moved to hug his mother’s leg.
“Yeah you look...you look like you’re doing well.” Jim felt a cold sweat breaking out on the back of his neck.
“I am, thank you, but I guess not as well as you two.” There was venom in her voice as she said it. Like she had lost all hope upon seeing that the two of them were still together.
“We’re happy,” Leah replied stoically, her hand resting protectively on top of William’s head.
“And who are you?” Heather crouched down to be at the same level of the little boy.
“I’m William...and this is Sharky.” He held out the stuffed toy, offering her his fin to shake. Fortunately for her, she shook the shark’s hand and introduced herself to Sharky as if he was as human as the rest of them. Leah might have slight her throat by the butter if she had disrespected her son and his imagination in any way.
“We better get going,” Jim murmured as he urged William back into the car, “he normally naps soon and-”
“Of course. Hopefully I see you around again. It’s nice to see you’re doing so well...both of you.” Her expression had softened a bit. Heather couldn’t deny that the way Jim and Leah looked at each other was the stuff of fairytales. And William was the cutest little boy she had ever seen. Perhaps they were meant to be together.
“You okay?” Leah asked once Heather was out of ear shot. She wrapped her arms around Jim’s waist as he turned to face her, his hands lightly cupping her cheeks.
“I have you. I have William. There is nothing I miss about what she represents.”
“I love you so much, Sprinkles,” Leah whispered as she pecked his lips gently. Their little bubble was broken as Sharky came tumbling out the side of the car. Jim bent down and looked to see William asleep at the wheel. He chuckled and waved Leah over before taking out his phone to snap a cute picture.
“Guess we should head home.”
----
William was sound asleep on Jim’s shoulder as Leah pushed the cart out of the store to head back to the car.
“Daddy?” He looked down to see his little one blinking slowly as he was momentarily woken up.
“You can go back to sleep, munchie, Papa’s got you.”
“What’s that smell?” Jim sniffed his own nose at his son’s question, the smell of a cigarette registering quickly. He looked to the side to see where it was coming from and, for the second time that day, wished he had been anywhere else.
“Jim Mason. How crazy to see you here man.” It was Chad. He took one step towards the little family and then stumbled as if he had walked into a curb. Instinctively, Jim took a step back and put a protective arm in front of Leah.
“Leah, take William.”
“Jim-” The look in his eyes scared her. There was a flicker of the old Jim in it. She was worried that Chad was one step further into his past than Jim might be ready to handle.
“Go start the car. I’ll be right behind you.” He could tell that Chad was high or drunk or somewhere on the spectrum of both. First and foremost, he needed to protect his wife and son. Chad wouldn’t go anywhere near them. He wouldn’t let him threaten his happiness ever again.
“Damn. You’re still with Leah? Fucking wild.” Hearing her name come out of his mouth made him seethe. “Your son looks like you. Guess you can be sure she didn’t fuck someone else for him, am I right?” Jim clenched and unclenched his fists at his side. He ran through the quick mental exercises his therapist taught him when he felt his feelings boiling over into too much.
“Chad. If you ever see me, my wife or my son out in public ever again, do not speak to us. Do I make myself clear?” All that was returned to him was a blank stare. Jim felt haunted by the lack of life behind his eyes. How Chad looked like a dead man walking. He was struck by the idea that that had been him. He must have looked like Chad. Medina and Leah must have looked at him and seen that same hollow look on his face. It made him sick.
“Yeah, dude, I got it.”
“Chad? Jim? What’s going on?” He looked to see Heather exiting the store, her arms embracing Chad once she got close enough. It was as Chad’s ring caught Jim’s eye that he began to put the pieces together.
“You two are…” He thinks Heather looked ashamed for a brief moment. “Well, congratulations. I hope you’re happy.” Abruptly, Jim turned on his heels and tried to keep steady as he walked to join Leah and William in the car. The world was spinning ever so slightly but it was still dizzying.
“You okay?” she whispered. Leah had been sitting behind the wheel in case some sort of quick getaway was needed. William was sleeping peacefully in the back with his cheek resting against Sharky.
“Ready to go home,” he replied while his gaze stayed locked straight ahead. She could tell that the double encounter from his past had had an effect on him. Maybe more than either of them had ever been prepared for.
----
Jim carried a still sleeping William into the house, tucking him into bed before going to help Leah carry in the groceries and put them away in the kitchen.
“You got the rest of this? I think I need to make a phone call.” His knuckles were white around the circumference of his phone. Leah thinks he looked as though he was going to have a panic attack.
“Okay...okay...is everything okay? Are you okay?” She was gripping the new container of salt as tight as Jim was his phone.
“Just need a little reset, I think. Going to call Paul. See if he has a minute.” Dr. Paul Jackson was Jim’s therapist from back when he went to rehab after the night on the beach. Along the way he had become more than just a therapist to Jim. Had become a sort of father figure to him. A hybrid uncle and grandpa to William. Leah knew Paul would have more than a minute for Jim.
“Tell him I said hi,” she smiled softly. She kept the smile on her face until he was on the back porch with the door closed and then it dropped from her face. She couldn’t show that she was worried about him. That wouldn’t help anyone. But calling Paul meant that he was in need of some tough love and advice. That he had been shaken to his core enough to reach out for help. Leah decided to give him all the space he needed by heading upstairs to crack open a book.
----
She looked up as her husband walked into their room and set her book to the side. Jim collapsed onto his side of the bed and began to place kisses up her arm and across her collarbone and on the side of her neck.
“How was Paul?” she asked as her eyes closed with the bliss of Jim’s lips against her skin.
“Good. Said he misses William. Wants to get together for dinner soon.” He was methodically pressing kisses to every bit of her face, propping himself up over to get the right angle. If phase one of Jim bouncing back was a phone call with Dr. Paul, then phase two was trying to feel the love he and his wife shared in the most raw form possible. Leah reminded him that he was human. Allowed to have bad days and feel off and didn’t need to shoulder the burdens of the world on his own.
“Okay, we can plan that.” She moved upwards to make sure his lips landed home on her own and she took control of the kiss. “We don’t have much time. Little prince will be up soon.” William had a way of sensing when his parents were in bed together. His mind immediately went to snuggle time and there was nothing he loved more than snuggles.
“You’re right. Let’s get you naked.” Jim made quick work of Leah’s jeans and underwear, his own bottoms following suit. Since William had learned how to leave his room and open their door, they had taken to having sex half-clothed. Only when they were completely alone did all of it come off. Leah pumped Jim in her hand as they continued to kiss sloppily. She swallowed his moans hungrily and relished in the feeling of the tight grip he had on her hair.
“Gonna make you cum so fast,” she teased as she let go and went onto her knees, swinging one leg over his cock.
“Fuck, Sugar, you know what the sight of your ass does to me.” Reverse cowgirl was kryptonite for Jim Mason. The view of his wife’s perfect bottom bouncing on his cock, watching his length shine with each movement of her hips, set every nerve ending on fire for him. He was frozen with anticipatory bliss as he watched Leah guide his cock into her, the fit perfect and snug and the things epic poems were written about.
“Oh God you feel so good, Jimmy,” she gasped out as she began to move herself up and down. He rested both hands on her cheeks, squeezing and pulling them apart as she bounced on him. Teasingly, he pressed the pad of his thumb to her other entrance and gently massaged the area. He watched her shudder with a gleeful smirk on his face and her pace picked up at the added sensation.
“Fucking gorgeous. This beautiful ass is all mine.” Her head fell back her hair was cascading down, Jim sitting up and pulling it into a ponytail. He used his new leverage to expose her neck and began to suck hickies onto her skin the way he did when they were back in high school. “Going to cum so hard for you, Sugar.” Leah had known exactly what she was doing when she chose to ride him backwards. The first time they had ever done so, Jim had come within moments. He claimed the sight was too much for his mind, body and soul to handle. With the looming threat of William waking up down the hall, Leah had figured the quicker, the better.
“Fill me up with your cum...please,” she panted as she felt her own climax swelling within her. Jim thrusted up in time with her for the last view seconds and both of them stilled before falling forward slightly with desperate moans. He placed kisses to her back as she tried to catch her breath.
“Every time with you, Sugar, feels like the first time. I love you so goddamn much and I never want you to forget that.”
“Promise you I won’t,” she laughed as she fell backwards against his chest. The settled into a slow and lazy kiss when the door to their room was flung open.
“Mommy? Daddy? Snuggle without me?” William looked like he had just suffered the worst betrayal as he stood in their doorway with Sharky and his blanket. Leah opened her mouth to respond but couldn’t find the words. She could still feel Jim’s cum dripping down her inner thigh and she didn’t know how to get off of him and attend to her son without somehow scarring him for life.
“Baby, why don’t you go grab another blanket for mommy to snuggle under with you?” Jim said as he held Leah still. Any movement of her hips at this moment would surely coax a reaction out of him.
“Okay!” William happy ran off to the linen closet down the hall to grab their fluffy snuggle blanket.
“Move quickly!” Jim ordered as their toddler disappeared. Leah lifted herself off of him, running to the bathroom to pee and wipe herself down, Jim taking the washcloth after her and pulling back on his boxers.
“Daddy, I need help!” William called. He was grunting as he struggled to climb onto his parents bed.
“I’ll be there in one second buddy!”
“Hey,” Leah whispered as Jim made a step towards the door, “I love you.” The craziness of their life would never dampen the connection she felt to her husband. There was no one else on this planet she would rather be on this crazy ride with.
“I’m in love with you,” Jim whispered back as he placed the softest of kisses on her lips.
“Daddy!”
“Okay, okay,” Jim muttered as he went to the wiggling little boy and helped him up onto the bed.
“Yay!” William clapped as he fell back against the pillow and spread out two blankets on himself. “Mommy!” He made grabby hands in her direction as she joined them in bed.
“I love you so much, my little prince,” she said as she held him tight against her and placed quick kisses to the top of his head.
“Love you, Mama.” Jim rolled over so he was facing the two loves of his life, resting his hand on top of Leah’s and smiling widely. Everything felt right. His world was at peace.
----
“James Philip Mason!” Jim looked up from the slime he was making with William in horror at the tone his wife was using to call him from the upstairs.
“Uh oh, Daddy,” William said as he added more glitter to the concoction. William may be young but he was wise. He knew his father was in some sort of trouble.
“Keep mixing until I come back, okay?” He waited for William’s nod before he bounded up the stairs to see what he had done wrong. He took the stairs two at a time and found Leah standing in the bathroom with her hands on her hips.
“You remember when we talked a few days ago about having another baby?”
“Yeah?” His first thought was that she was going to backtrack on her decision now. Jim would be upset but he would understand. It was her body and her choice. He’d wait as long as it took for her to be ready. Even if she never wanted another kid, he’d be happy. He’d be okay.
“I know we said in a little bit…” she pulled something out from behind her back, “but how does nine months feel?” Jim was frozen for only a minute before he surged forward and wrapped his arms around her waist and spun her around.
“You make me so fucking happy. Nine months sounds perfect.”
“Mason, part of four, sounds perfect.” He nodded in agreement.
“Welcome to the tribe, little peanut.”

A/N:Wow, it feels like forever since I posted something. Time to change that! So one (1) person asked about a part two to Kiss and at first I had no intention of doing one. And then I mulled around some ideas and one really stuck with me. And my original idea for this challenge just wouldn’t cooperate so I decided to go with this! This is my entry for @sweetboybucky 1k Writing Challenge! I might do one more part I’m not sure yet well see how this one goes.
Prompt: What are you saying?
Pairings: Loki x Asgardian!reader
Summary: Loki is still alive
Word Count: 3k
Warnings: Angst, fluff, brief implication of depression, mention of suicide, IW fix
You were enjoying your evening tea and watching one of your favorite shows. You were snuggled up on your couch, a blanket thrown across your lap. You were sipping your tea, winding down for the night when there was a knock at your door.
You looked at your door curiously. You were in an apartment, people typically didn’t just walk in and knock. They had to be buzzed in and you certainly didn’t do that.
Another soft knock came, and you tentatively got up, clutching your mug of tea. “Hello?” You asked cautiously. No one said anything, so you creeped closer to the door. “Hello?” You asked again with the same silent response. As quietly as you could you went to your door and glanced out the peephole.
You nearly dropped your mug in shook. “Loki?” You threw your door open and there he stood. He looked bad. His clothes were ripped, his hair matted and dirty. He looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks.
“Hello, Y/N,” he said, trying to smile. “May I come in?”
You nodded, stepping aside. “Yes, of course.”
“Thank you.” He feebly walked into your little apartment. “What a nice set up.”
You shut the door and locked it behind you. “Thanks,” you said, watching him. He looked weak, like he would collapse at a moment’s notice. You went over to him and grabbed his arm, partly to steady him and partly to make sure it wasn’t an illusion.
“It’s me, darling,” he said and smiled down at you, making you blush.
You led him to your couch, prompting him to sit. He did. Eyeing your mug, he said, “Might I trouble you for something to drink? It’s been a long day.”
“Oh, yes, of course,” you replied. “Just sit here. I’ll be right back.” You hurried to your little kitchen. You set your own mug down and grabbed one for Loki. You had boiled extra water for your tea and filled the new cup with it. You added a fresh tea bag to it and carried both mugs back out to your living room.
You weren’t gone for more than a few minutes but that seemed to be enough time for Loki to lay across your couch and fall completely asleep. Sighing, you set the mugs down and pried the blanket out from under him. He didn’t budge. Carefully, you placed the blanket over him and sat down on the floor in front of the couch. All the questions you had for him were apparently going to have to wait until he wakes up. Luckily you still had your show to watch.
You made it through two episodes before you felt something in your hair. You turned around and was greeted with Loki’s shining eyes, his fingers playing with strands of your hair. “Your hair feels softer than normal. Have you gotten new products?”
Annoyed, you pulled away from him. You grabbed the mug of tea you had gotten for him and shoved it towards his face. “Here’s your drink.”
He sat up and accepted it. “Thank you.” He brought it towards his lips and took a sip. “This is very good. Cold, but good.”
“Well, it was warm when I first made it. But you fell asleep.” You got off the ground and sat down next to him on your couch.
“Right,” he said and sighed. “Sorry. A lot has gone on.” He took another sip of tea.
You took in his haphazard appearance again. Personal hygiene seemed to have taken a back burner to whatever it was that he had been going through. And, knowing Loki, that something must have been important. “Would you like to take a shower or something? I can warm up the tea while you do it.”
“That would be so lovely, thank you,” he said almost before you finished speaking.
You led him from the couch to your little bathroom. “Here you are,” you said, pushing open the bathroom door. “My room is right over there. I’ll set out some fresh clothes for you in it. You look like you could use some.”
He gave a dry laugh. “Quite right. Thank you, Y/N.”
You nodded, leaving him to his bathing. As you entered your bedroom you heard the bathroom door close and soon the water in the shower was running. You started rummaging through the clothes you had, knowing most of them would be too small for Loki. The only thing you had that might fit him was a pair of pajama pants that you accidently bought in a size too big and a sweatshirt Thor had given you. They would have to do, though.
With the clothes folded neatly on your bed you went back to the living room. You took the mug of tea Loki had set down and popped in into the microwave. In no time steam was rising from the tea again. You went back to the living room and placed his tea back on the table. You got on the couch, curling under the blanket again, and continued watching television until Loki returned.
You finished almost another hour-long episode before the running water stopped. One door opened and another closed and you figured Loki went to change clothes. When he came back out you had to suppress your giggle. He did look cleaner but the clothes… The shirt was way too big, and the pants didn’t even reach his ankles. He looked absolutely ridiculous.
He rolled his eyes. “Yes, yes, laugh your heart out. You’re the one who set these out for me after all.”
“I know,” you giggled. “I’m sorry. It’s all I had. We haven’t exactly been in the same size clothing since we were children. And even than your tunics fit better on me than my dresses on you.”
He sat down next to you, putting the blanket across his lap. “You make it sound like it was a common occurrence where I would put on your dresses.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “It was only twice. And I looked stunning in them.”
“Still,” you laughed. “They didn’t fit that well on you. Stunning or not.”
He grumbled, picking at the sweatshirt. “Is this… Thor’s?” He almost sounded offended.
You nodded, fighting the urge to roll your eyes.
“Why do you have a shirt of his?” He nearly demanded to know, his voice teetering more towards jealously now. You smirked to yourself. You got great satisfaction knowing he was getting jealous.
“I am friends with him, Loki.”
“Not that close,” he muttered.
This time you did roll your eyes. “He stopped by once when I first moved in. I didn’t have a lot and I didn’t want handouts. But I quickly learned that there are periods of time when its very cold. I was not prepared for that. At all. He insisted I take one of his sweatshirts, so I didn’t freeze to death. That’s all.” He huffed, still unhappy. “Be thankful he did,” you continued. “Had he not the only other option for you right now would be one of my shirts that wouldn’t even cover your stomach.”
He grumbled again but didn’t argue with you. Instead, he picked up his mug of tea and took a drink of it. “It’s still cold,” he said.
“You were in the shower for close to and hour. Of course, it’s going to get cold again,” you said, getting annoyed. “I can reheat it if you like.”
He waved off your words. “Don’t worry, darling. It’s fine.” He took another, longer sip. “I appreciate your hospitality,” he said, moving on from the conversation about why you owned an article of his brother’s clothing.
“Of course.”
There was a moment of silence between the two of you. “Your apartment is quite nice,” he said, breaking it.
“Thanks,” you said, suddenly blushing at his compliment. “S.H.I.E.L.D. set me up with it when we reached Earth. They gave me a job at the bakery down the block as well.”
He smiled. “You’ve always made the best pastries. I’m sure you excel in your job.”
“The sweets here on Earth are no match to the Asgardian ones, but I think I do a decent job. Thank you.”
“Of course,” he said. “Are the other Asgardian refugees here as well?”
“A few are in the building but, it’s mostly other S.H.I.E.L.D agents and workers. An Asgardian camp was set up at the Avengers Tower. We had a choice if we wanted to stay there or not. I didn’t want to.” Remembering your neighbors, you momentarily questioned how Loki got into the building and passed everyone. But in a way you weren’t surprised that he had.
He kept his eyes trained on you. “Why not?”
“It hurt too much, Loki,” you said so softly. “I had just lost everything I cared about. I needed time.” Thinking back to the time when you arrived on Earth, so broken and alone, caused you distress. It wasn’t one of your favorite memories to relive.
“I’m sorry,” he said, matching your tone. “I just couldn’t risk you getting hurt. Thanos is ruthless-“
“He’s dead.” You cut him off.
He stared at you in shock. “What?” He asked, leaning forward. “When? How?”
“There was a fight in this place called Wakanda. Thor killed him there with an ax to the head. At least, that’s what I’ve been told. I think it was the same day we evacuated but I’m not sure. We hadn’t arrived on Earth yet.”
Loki sighed in relief. “That’s wonderful. I was worried…If I came back would that put you in danger? But my desire to see you was too strong. I just…I wanted to know you were safe and happy.”
You blushed again at his words, his care for you making you feel warm on the inside. “Safe, yes,” you said. “Happy? That’s questionable.” You were content for the most part, but each day was different. There were days you enjoyed your simple Earth life. Days you loved working in the little bakery and cleaning the apartment. However, there were days you laid in bed all day crying about your old life. You missed Asgard and your friends. But most of all you missed Loki.
He cocked his head, concerned. “What’s wrong? Why is your happiness questionable?”
“Because sometimes it is.”
He reached across the blanket for your hand. You hesitated at first but let him take it. His thumb started rubbing your palm soothingly. You hated how much this small interaction made your heart flutter. “Darling, talk to me.” He sounded so upset and worried. “Please.”
You sighed, reluctantly opening up. “Sometimes I hurt, Loki. I think about Asgard and how much I miss it. How much I miss you. Have you forgotten our last meeting? You shoved me into an escape pod after kissing me and then I was blasted into space not knowing if I was ever going to see you again.”
“Right,” he said, looking down, shame coating his features. His eyes on his mug of cold tea. “I know that wasn’t ideal, Y/N. I just couldn’t risk you getting killed.”
“Then I get to Earth,” you continue, “and I hear from Thor that Thanos killed you. Strangled you. By the Gods, Loki, do you know what that did to me? How hopelessly destroyed I was?”
“I’m sorry you had to go through that,” he spoke as he continued to rub your palm. “Faking my death was the only way to assure Thanos wouldn’t come looking for me.”
“That seems to be a favorite of yours,” you scoffed, irritated. His charade of faking his death and then coming back was getting really old.
“Y/N, I-“
“When will the next time be, then? How many more times do I have to have my heart break apart for your games?” Your voice squeaked as you spoke, getting emotional. You were so so happy to have him back, but you were scared. With his track record, you didn’t know if you could trust that he wouldn’t leave again.
His stroking of your palm came to a stop. “I’ve only ever meant to do it this past time.”
“I don’t understand,” you asked, your face scrunching in confusion.
“This past time, on the ship with Thanos, I meant to fake my death. The other times… not so much.”
You thought to when he fell from the Bifrost and when he was stabbed with the Kursed. “What are you saying?” You were so confused. If he didn’t mean to fake his death, then… did he mean to die?
He looked up at you, meeting your eyes. The pain there was all the evidence you needed. “I think you know exactly what I’m saying.”
“Loki…” You scooted over to him, wrapping your arms around his middle and hugging him fiercely, your own hurt quickly forgotten. You buried your face in his chest. It felt so good to be in his arms, so natural. You could clearly hear the thumping of his heart which may have sped up the more you nuzzled against him.
“Sh,” he whispered into your hair. “You don’t need to cry.” Were you crying? You unconsciously sniffled and realized that indeed you were. You hadn’t meant to, but you just felt so overwhelmed and you couldn’t exactly place why. From him being back? From knowing he tried to commit suicide? Both? Neither? Something else?
His arms went around your form and easily coaxed you onto his lap. You had a fleeting thought of what happened to the mug of tea he was holding but that was pushed out of your head quickly. He was holding you so gently and tenderly. Your cheek pressed against his chest and his resting on top of your head. The blanket still wrapped around the two of you.
There was silence between you both for several moments. The television was still playing in the background softly. But your focus was on the past. How could you not have seen how hurt he was before? How Odin’s unjust treatment of him ate away until he thought the best option was to fall from the Bifrost? And the Kursed? Surely, he didn’t go there planning on being stabbed. That had to have been an accident, right?
“I’m sorry,” you muttered against his him, blinking as your tears started to subside. You pressed your face into him more, reeling in his comfort.
“What for, darling?” he asked, sounding confused.
“For not doing more when you were hurting. I should have seen it. I should have-“
You felt him shake his head and he started stroking your hair. “You’ve always gone above and beyond for me,” he said. “You’re absolutely amazing, Y/N. A true heart of gold. Please, don’t blame yourself for things that happened so long ago. Everything’s alright now,” he said and kissed the top of your head. “I’m alright.”
He tightened his hold on you, making you snuggle closer to him. Not that you minded at all. You had never experienced this level of intimacy with him and you were thriving in it. The way he held you, his cool skin, the beating of his heart, his scent. This was your everything. He was your everything.
“I meant what I said on the ship,” you said, pulling away to look him in the eyes. “I’m in love with you.”
You saw the smile tug at his lips. “I was hoping you were sincere. Otherwise it would make my quest to find you rather awkward. Especially since I’ve come to you before my brother.”
“Are you saying you reciprocate?” You often thought about his face when you were hurling out into space. There was love, you were sure of it. But as time went on, it became harder and harder to visualize. You started to think maybe you made it up. Maybe the love you so desperately wanted to see didn’t exist.
One hand stayed wrapped around your form, the other coming up to your face. He wiped away the remaining tears, this thumb stroking your cheek much like he had done to your palm. “I am,” he said a moment before pressing the sweetest kiss to your lips.
It was nothing like the one you shared on the ship. That one was needy and hasty and consuming. This one was slow and loving and breathtaking.
Too soon he pulled away and rested his forehead against yours. “I love you so much, darling.” He kissed you again, your lips still tingling from the one just moments ago. The air left your lungs when his tongue slipped into your mouth, licking and tasting. Your hands crawled up his chest and around his neck, finding his hair. His locks felt so soft and you knew he had tried your shampoo.
You were the one to pull away first this time. “Loki,” you panted. He moved to nuzzle your neck. “Loki, wait.”
“Hmm?”
“As much as I want to just sit on your lap and kiss you, I need to know that you’re not going to leave again.” He stopped his nuzzling, bringing his full attention to your face.
“I won’t.” His response was instant.
“You said that last time,” you retorted. “And then you pushed me into an escape pod and I didn’t see you for almost a year.”
“Darling, I won’t.” He kissed you, swiftly, once more. “I didn’t mean to leave last time. I had every intention of staying with you then.” His fingers were combing through your hair again. “That day when we talked, being next to you and holding your hand… I’ve been in love with you for years. If we hadn’t been attacked I would have made my intentions known in a proper fashion.”
“And I’ve loved you, but I can’t go through that again, Loki. Especially now.” While you were beyond happy that Loki was here, and he felt the same way you did, you were also so scared you’d end up getting hurt. Your heart was too invested this time.
“Will you let me prove to you that I won’t leave?”
“Yes,” you said. Not even a moment later his lips were back on yours.

Sharing a room with your best friend can be both a blessing and a curse. It wasn't like Eren didn't like sharing his room with Armin, but having to give him a play-by-play recount on his day every night had grown old fast. As had the way Armin always insisted on leaving the window open. Eren loved the fresh air, but something in his wolf side wasn't happy about his scent slowly vanishing from his room. He'd never known how soothing habit his own scent around was, not until Armin moved in and determinedly eliminated it. There was also the issue of the their different schedules, and the fact Armin stayed up reading late because he no longer had to fear Connie or Jean yelling at him turn the lights off. But what was really getting under his skin was Armin's probing questions as to what happened to his things and "Why did he need new uniforms already?". To escape his best friend, Eren now spent longer on his morning runs with Levi. It meant if he stayed out that extra half an hour, Armin would already be having breakfast by the time he got back and had showered. His friend had asked to come with him and Levi, meaning both of them had to lower their pace so he could up. After a week, Armin politely bowed out of their morning runs, leaving him feeling slightly guilty over it all. Other aspects of his life had improved... dramatically. The rumours hadn't stopped, but they had lessened somewhat. As had the whispers and the stares as he went about his daily life. Eren supposing everyone was scared of Erwin making them run until they dropped again. He was able to attend classes, train and be Hanji's lab rat in relatively peace, and for that he was grateful. Out of everything, the biggest and best thing to happen was the mission he and the rest of Squad Levi were currently on. There had been a rash of weird animal deaths to the north. It wasn't like he was happy over all the death, but it was finally a mission. He was finally back out in the field again and he couldn't keep the smile off his face. * From the castle to sleepy village it had been a 6 day ride. 6 days of great weather, brilliantly blue skies and 5 nights of adventuring. He could shift and run around for hours in his wolf form, even racing against Eld on his horse. He'd been thoroughly beaten, but his mood so good that he really couldn't find the effort to care. Now he was riding into the village with the others, Levi nodding to a few locals as they passed. The kid's on the streets all stared at them in awe, making his pride swell, as he knew those memories all too well. When Levi came to a stop in front of particular house, they all dismounted their horses before looping their reins through fence "Eren, try to get that smile off your face" "I can't help it, sir" "Well try to help it. It's creepy" "In case you haven't noticed, I am creepy.... anyway, who lives here?" "The woman that contacted us. Her name's Leah and she'll be leading us out to the farm where these animal attacks happened" "It's so nice and peaceful, it makes it hard to believe something like that is actually happening around here" "Petra, Eld, stay with Eren. Make sure he doesn't get carried away. Gunther, you're with me" "I'm not getting carried away" "You're still not coming in either" Huffing, Eren placed his hand on the soft nose of his horse "It's not like I wanted to go inside anyway" "Then stop complaining" While Levi and Gunther were talking with Leah, Eren was still watching the world go by. A few of the braver kids were watching them between the gaps in the buildings, and each time they noticed him watching them, they'd duck back out of sight for a seconds, elbowing and whisper yelling at each other. Giggling, Petra smiled at him "I think you have fans" "I don't know, they could be looking at you" "Are you trying to compliment me?" Scratching the back of his head, Eren then shrugged "Is it still a compliment if it's true?" "Smooth" "I thought so" "You're going to be breaking hearts all over the place" "I'd really rather not" "Whatever happened to that member you were making out with?" "That... that was drunken mistake" "So you haven't talked to them?" "No. I didn't even really pay attention to who it was" "You don't know them?!" "I didn't say that. I know who it was by scent alone. No. I'm in no rush to drink and give a repeat performance" "That's a shame. You'll make someone a wonderful partner one day" "Yes, because going into heat is a whole lot of fun. No. I'm not looking to find anyone, so I guess if it happen, it happens" "How mature" "Hanji called it "laziness". But she also suggested we should have a baby, so I doubt I should be taking dating advice from her" Besides, it wasn't like his crush on Levi would leave him alone. He'd even chatted to Jean slightly flirty in an attempt to get his mind off Levi. It hadn't worked, especially when the guy was still clearly crushing on Mikasa. He'd tried his best for the pair of them, letting Jean tag along whenever he'd hung out with her, but Mikasa barely paid attention to anything that wasn't him, so it hadn't gone as planned. It had also led to the "sex talk" from Hanji and a very awkward conversation with Levi about how he didn't have a thing for the horseface or anyone else... bailing out on the plan of using Jean to hide his crush on Levi. He just couldn't do it. He had few friends as it was, and they were all precious to him... even Jean, though that depended on how much of an arse Jean was being at the time "Can you imagine Hanji as a mother?" Petra giggled, but honestly he kind of could. Sure the woman was spacey and experiment crazy, but she was amazingly kind and patient, at least with him "She'd be a good mum. As long as she didn't forget she actually had a child" "Moblit would make an excellent father" "You think so too?! They should just get together" Eren couldn't help but laugh as Eld finally joined in on their gossip "I know right. He's probably the only one in the world that could keep up with her" "I can't help but feel bad for him. He always looks so exhausted" "I talked to him when we came back, Hanji had him working nonstop while we were away. We should invite him on a mission sometime" "Maybe you could talk to Levi" The look in Petra's eyes was mischievous, Eren pouted jokingly "He'll probably tell me to calm down and not to get carried away again" "I don't know, you two seem to have gotten close" "Just what are you implying?" "Maybe you're Levi's Moblit" "Nope. I don't see it. Seriously. If we aren't training then we're cleaning" "He doesn't let any of clean in his room" "That's because I had to use his bathroom, and I value my life. I didn't clean, he'd probably send me off to he experimented on by Hanji" "Oh, I don't think that's true. It took all of us quite some time to become as close to him as you have" "You do realise I've already been under his supervision for a year now" "It's already been a year?" "Something like that. I honestly don't remember most of it" "Well, that is to bee expected. You've been through so much" Continuing his whiny and joking tone, Eren counted off on his fingers "Heats. Torture. Missions. Torturous heats... Why don't I have any good memories?!" "What are we, then?" "The best kind of memories, good friends. The kind I don't want to be just memories" "Aww, hear that Eld. He likes us" "What's not to like?" "Exactly. Wait, the door's opening" Leah was a rather plain woman with stringy brown hair and an overly large nose. If Eren had to label her, he'd say average, as she'd blend in easily in any crowd. Forced to share his horse ..with the woman, he found that even her scent was unremarkable, other than the lingering smell of dirty water, which was making his nose itch like mad, and making him want too sneeze. The only thing stopping it was the fact it would be impolite and Levi wouldn't be impressed. He wasn't getting kicked off a mission over a sneeze, not when he was determined to finally have an actual win. But by all things Sina, he wanted to sneeze. Dismounting by the sweeping veranda of the farm house, Eren was impressed by the sheer scale of the building. Out here, and with such a plain village, it might as well have been a castle. Leah was obviously used to it all, sliding from the saddle and heading inside without saying anything, and allowing him to finally sneeze, Petra counting once he hit 5, and stopping at 13, even Eren was impressed by the number "Now that you've got that out your system, what do you make of her?" "Me? What? You're the one who spent time with her, sir?" "You're the one with the nose, dog boy" "There was something on her that made me want to sneeze and she smelt like dirty water. I don't know, she only talked to give me directions" Petra nodded, walking from her horse and falling in beside Eren as they all moved to walk up the steps "Is there something we should be worried about, sir?" "No, but I feel like there is something more to this. She mentioned burn marks on the animal bodies, but as for death, she wasn't sure. That's why we are here. The owner of the house, owns the land all these attacks have happened on" Eren wrinkled his face up, finally his happiness was ebbing away to disgust "That's revolting. Who the fuck would burn animals and kill them? For what?!" "Eren..." "It's just wrong..." This was hitting way too close to home. Trapping and killing animals for food was one thing, but burning them and leaving their bodies. It made him feel physically sick "Eren, it's not like I don't understand where you're coming from, but don't forget that there may be more to this" "I just... never mind" Mumbling the words, he stepped onto the verandah, the smell of dirty water making him pause "What? What were you going to say?" "It doesn't matter. I don't want to talk about it. Let's just go talk to this person" Levi stopped him just as Eren was about to enter the house, Gunther taking the lead with Petra and Eld, leaving the pair of them standing there "Are you alright?" "Am I alright?" "I saw the look on your face. You looked like you were about throw up all over your boots" "I just... the idea of animals being tortured for no good reason brought back memories I'd rather forget" "Did they burn you?" "I... the first time..." "I didn't know. I suspected, but it's not really the same thing" "I didn't tell you. I didn't even tell Hanji. I thought it was maybe just animal attacks, you know, but animals don't burn other animals. I don't want to think about it" "Will you be alright?" "Yeah. Who knows, maybe I'll sniff something out?" "Let me know if you do, or if you feel anything else" "Will do. We should head in" "Probably. Honestly, I don't know if I can take much more of Leah. She spent the whole time we were talking staring at Gunther" "Would you rather she stare at you?" "No" "Then there's nothing to worry about. Let's just do our jobs and figure this out?" "I don't need you tell me that" "Then stop stressing" "And here I was, trying to make sure you were alright. Just fucking forget it" Storming into the darkness of the house, Eren kicked himself mentally before following Levi. The man had actually been concerned about him, and he'd just fucked up it up like the airhead he was. "Eren. Squad Leader Levi, this Hector. He, uh, saved us some samples" Petra was trying her hardest not to look at the rabbits and the small dog on the table. Their bodies half bloated with burn marks along one side of their stomach. Eren's stomach rolled. It was worse than he'd expected, and triply so because the poor things still had their eyes open "It's been happening for months and we've tried setting traps. We've caught nothing. Now there's kids around, we're worried it could be one of 'em next" "Can you tell us anything more about where these incidents happened?" "At first it was near the old dump, but it's grown. They found a chicken in town the other day, same as this" "Would you mind showing Gunther and Eren here out to where it started. Petra, we're going to take a look at these bodies. Eld, you take notes" "Anything you need. Leah will show you to the kitchen, 'bout only place big enough to cut 'em up" Eren's eyes were watering as he vomited into his mouth. He had no idea how Hector could he so casual about butchering these dead animals in his own kitchen. Turning and rushing out the house, he sucked in a desperate breath of air. It was like the stink had seeped into him. Hector and Gunther soon joined him, Hector laughing in his face "What's the matter, never seen a dead animal? Don't make soldiers like they used to" "Sorry. He's got a sensitive nose" "Meaning he's never smelt shit in his life" Fatty was lucky Gunther was between him and Hector. The grimy bastard looked and smelt like he hadn't showered in the last month, and he had the nerve... The teen wanted to punch right in his fat mouth "Eren is actually one of our elite agents. His instincts are almost animalistic" "Maybe it takes an animal to find an animal" Gunther's joke was thrown back at them, Gunther scowling as Hector moved in front of them, leading them across his sprawling property. The dump was just that. Bits of broken everything was paled high... into what seemed to be swampy ground "Started happening here, like I said. Mostly small animals, but it's only a matter of time" "And nothing changed in the lead up to the first event?" "Not that I know of" The whole place was giving him a creepy vibe. The stink of the dirty water was the same as what was on Leah... only much worse. Yuck. He felt gross. His body erupting in goosebumps, as his nausea grew worse. He didn't like the feeling of this place at all "Eren and I will scout the area, for now, its safer you wait back at the house" "Just don't go stickin ya nose in where it don't belong" "Understood" The pair of them remained silent as Hector ambled back down towards the house, Eren only feeling worse by the second "He's a nasty piece of work. What do you think?" Shaking his head, it wasn't like he didn't have an opinion, more like he feared vomiting "Are you ok? Why don't you sit? I'll take a quick look around" Sinking onto the grass, Eren closed his eyes, confused as to why he felt so sick. He hadn't eaten anything strange. It didn't feel like his heat... it just... felt gross... and cold. Since when was it this cold? "Eren?" Opening his eyes to find Gunther's face right in front of his, Eren shook his head "Something's wrong here" "I don't sense anything" "I do. Don't you feel it? This place just feels wrong" "You said that. But how wrong?" "I feel cold and sick..." "Can you walk?" Gunther didn't wait for a reply, lifting him from ground and carrying Eren back down to the paddock they'd crossed through. Immediately he started to feel better, the coldness leaving almost immediately "It's ok, Gunther. I'm ok now" "Are you sure?" "Yeah. I'm feeling better" Setting him back on his feet, Eren wrapped his arms around himself "What was that?" "I don't know. Like I said, I just felt really sick. I'm not feeling great, but not as bad as I was" "So there's definitely something going on here?" "I would say so, but I don't know what, or why. Should I shift?" "Are you up to shifting?" "Just to my wolf form? I was thinking maybe I could take a sniff around?" "You're not Mike" "No one's like Mike. No. I'm thinking that maybe I can see or so smell something closer to the ground. Did you see anything?" "Nothing out of the ordinary. Our boot prints, small animal prints, the usual household rubbish. Why he's dumping in a swamp, however, is a mystery to me" "He didn't exactly seem terribly smart. Alright. I'm going in. Is it bad that I'd would still rather be here than down in the house?" "I don't think Petra was overly thrilled" "Neither do I. Here I go" Instead of walking back up to the swamp and dumping pile, Eren walked around the outside, sniffing and looking for anything that might be a clue. The throbbing in his head was making it hard to keep his mind in his job, but he wanted things to go well, so was pushing through what he was feeling. That still didn't mean he found anything. Skulking back to Gunther, Eren threw himself on the grass with a groan "That good? It's alright. We only just got here today. All we can do is take things slow and follow up with anything the others find" Nodding with a huff, Eren still felt like he'd failed. He hadn't been able to go too close to the swamp, which lead him to believe whatever was there, was what they were looking for. But he was keeping that to himself. He'd learned his lesson about rushing in... until Levi looked at the site, he'd keep it to himself.

Welcome (Me) Back (?)
So things have been a bit... negative in the last two posts here.  Just like last year, I had a rough 2/3 of the school year (in that I felt inundated with work and didn’t have time to write) but the topics of the last two posts didn’t really help motivate me to say anything positive here.  So let’s write about some positive things.
First of all, what a school year it has been.  Yes, there has been a lot of work - I am writing something about that, for later - but it’s also been a lot of fun!  Just like in Egypt, where I only really found a social circle that worked for me in year two, things really clicked this fall.  No offense intended to all of the other beloved members of La Sagrada Familia - Caitlin and Jacob, friends who still live in Madrid; Carolin from Hamburg, who learned how to share and hug; Virginia aka Maria aka Grace from Athens, applied mathematics student; Thør from Copenhagen, whose name was never Thør but no one could pronounce it, conspiracy theorist like no other that has ever lived; Karina from Toronto, with us for only a few short weeks; Rollie, Martin, the Turks, travelling Irish guitar guy, and all the other couch surfers who have stayed with us for only a few nights - but the apartment eventually became the home it was intended to be, with Caroline and Maura joining forces with Jonny and myself, as we planned to do over a year ago now.  We’ve done just about everything but bathe together, but it’s come close.  This is the home I have been missing since leaving Egypt.
Tumblr media
There have been many adventures this year!  Here are just a few from 2016.
In August, following the events previously commented upon, I traveled to Portugal to see Lagos on the southern coast.  Many people travel to Lagos to party, I guess, but I went to scuba dive and see the southwest corner of continental Europe.
Tumblr media
There are lots of places to stay, but João from Lagos4U runs a very friendly and open place, as long as you don’t mind crowded rooms.  I think I was in a 10 bed dorm and the bathroom was inside the room, so there was a lot of noise between people coming in and out at night and using the restroom and showers. Since I was diving, I was asleep pretty early every night, but I dealt with the noise fairly well (Egypt training still paying off).  The town itself has got a nice marina and long stretches of beach, and lots of fresh, cheap, delicious seafood (go to A Barrigada) and a seriously great burger (”Toucan Burger” from Nahnahbah).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s just a pain to get to, as I took a bus and had to transfer in the middle of nowhere, with no easy way to communicate with the drivers other than me saying “Lagos” and them pointing at an empty street corner where, thankfully, another bus showed up in a few minutes to take me the rest of the way.
After Lagos, I took a bus to Portimão and did a few hours tour of the area through the company Bike My Side - a fun dude drove me around in a sidecar of his motorcycle and took me up through Monchique to the top of Fóia, the highest peak in the Algarve region.  It was a fun time, something different to do, but was a little pricey.
From there I went back to Lisbon to see Scott and Jen, two friends from Egypt who were staying in an airbnb for most of the summer.  I had visited Lisbon briefly in May and had some sense of the city, but they had experienced much more and shared with me some of its wonders: Bifana, a pork steak sandwich that we topped with mustard and hot sauce, would be #1.  I love these things (on a more recent trip back to Lisbon I had 5 of these in 48 hours).  I can personally recommend O Trevo, Ginginha Popular, and Zé Dos Cornos.  All are dirty, cheap, and cater to locals.  With vinho verde on tap, you can get an awesome meal for under €4.
Lisbon is somewhat famous for the pastry known as pastel de nata, said to have originated just outside of the city, in Belem.  There is no need to travel to Belem and wait 20 minutes in line for these (although Belem has its own sites to take in), just go to Manteigaria Fábrica de Pastéis de Nata in the city, below Bairro Alto.  Lines are not that long, although there is no seating.  €1.70 for a pastel de nata and an espresso.
If you’re thirsty, obviously Lisbon has plenty of wine options, and is famous for the green wine (which, while refreshing and is what I always order with my cheap meals, I could honestly take or leave).  The beer scene in Portugal is still emerging, and Duqye Brewpub and Beer Station both have plenty on offer.  The local liqueur should be sampled at A Ginjinha, apparently a pretty famous, well established shop (sells one type of drink, served two different ways, and is about the size of my bathroom). It was recommended to me even down in the Algarve region as a place the man speaking to me had never been to but had always heard about.
The church known as Igreja De São Domingos is one of my favorites on earth due to its unique looks - there are still many signs of a 1959 fire.
Finally, the LX Factory is a little out of town but is hope to some nice hipster stores and restaurants, and some good graffiti.
Really, I love Lisbon. One of my favorite cities to visit, hands down.  Cheap, great food and drink, on the water...what isn’t to love?
In late September, Jonny and I went to Hamburg to visit the aforementioned Carolin (we took no pictures! sad face).  Hamburg was a nice little German city to take in with our expert local guide and host.  The red light district, while famous, pales in comparison to what can be found in Amsterdam, although the forbidding gates (stupidly male only) are a nice visual touch.  Good company and of course good food and beer, the trip was not without its surprises and bad memories - suffice to say, Cohen’s “Hallelujah” has been ruined for me. But overall a trip that we are all glad happened. And the Germans have great parks! Look at how happy this guy is.
Tumblr media
In November, the four of us went to Rome, ostensibly for a work trip, but really used it as an excuse to see a bit of the city and stay in a hotel room for free.  We didn’t really get to see or do too much, but we had a lot of fun sharing a room together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Thanksgiving, we all went to Budapest. Here we were joined by Ryan (Caroline’s friend) and Emma, the American that I met in Spain who, at this time, was living in England... I am dating Emma.  Here is a terrible photo of us together.
Tumblr media
Budapest is a rad place, ripe for making bad puns on its name, mixing beautiful old history with soviet grunge. The food was good; I don’t remember specifics, just a lot of fried dough and meat stews. Really hardy stuff, for hardy people (you’ve got to be strong to drink the local pálinka). They have these neat “ruin bars” which have very artsy hipster feels to them. The biggest that I saw was called Szimpla Kert, and it was a shit show, so I did not get to explore much. Definitely seemed like a cool place to go back to during the day to try to take it all in. But if you like salvaged furniture, what you really need to do before your Budapest trip is look up the official schedule for "lomtalanítás" - “gypsy christmas” is my favorite translation - and walk through any districts that are having them. We found one by accident, and it seemed as though the refuse spread out before us like an endless sea of scraps. Teams of people went through it with backpacks, headlamps, I think I saw one person taking notes in a book of what they had taken or left behind for a second pass. Must see.
In early December, I had an opportunity to go to Athens to visit Virginia, and as an added bonus see Bob from Egypt, along with a group of former students he was leading on an AP Art trip. It was great to catch up with some of my favorite people from around the world! It was a quick weekend, so again I didn’t get to eat or do too much. Obvious items were checked, like the Acropolis. Extra thrilling points were getting to vote on where to get beers (imagine my exuberance: practicing democracy in its birthplace; now imagine the despondency of the Greeks I was with: “see how far democracy has gotten us!”), checking out  Exarcheia (the anarchist neighborhood), and The Neon Exhibition: Flying Over the Abyss (seriously the best art exhibit I’ve ever been to; I felt feelings and want to go back very badly - http://neon.org.gr/en/exhibition/flying-abyss-athens/).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, it was an art trip! And the teacher even drew me!
So anyway, yeah... it’s been over a year since most of this happened. But it happened. So I wrote some things. I might write again sometime.
