Apparently I'm just re-writing Hawksong. All of it. I don't know what's possessed me. It starts off with good intentions but then there's this farmhouse and they just never seem to leave. If you like long, drawn out, characters just talking to each other without seemingly any plot, this is the WIP for you. I have no idea how long it will be, I didn't plan on it being this long.

The amazingly talented kaykistar on Instagram drew this scene from my current WIP “An Angel’s Hope”. I am absolutely in love with it!!! The feathers in Aziraphale’s hair, the starlight on his wings, ugh <3 I love it so much.
Please go and check out some of their other works! Their art style is so soothing and wholesome <3 I’m a huge fan!
https://www.instagram.com/kaykistar/
Read below the cut-off for an excerpt from this scene!
Who was this boy? Why was he out here on his own? Did he have a family back home that was fearing the worst had happened to him? When he didn’t come home, who would come looking for him? Was there anyone left in his world that cared he was gone?
Aziraphale reached for him in that moment, gently pulling the arrow from the boy’s stomach before lowering him down until he was horizontal on the cool grass beneath them. There was no reaction. No cry of pain, no flutter of his eyelids. Nothing. Slowly, the Avian settled into a kneeling position, resting the serpent’s head on his lap, his red curls splaying out around him like a halo.
What did he do now? There was no point in talking to the serpent. He was unconscious, so it would hardly do any good. Did Aziraphale just sit here and wait in silence until the boy died? That hardly seemed right. He may be the enemy, but this boy was also an innocent. He wasn’t a soldier. He’d done nothing wrong.
He didn’t deserve to die like this.
The tears continued to spill down his cheeks, striking the grassy field below him. Not knowing what to do with his trembling hands, Aziraphale placed them lightly on top of the serpent’s head, gently stroking the strands of fiery curls as he fought to regain control over his breaths.
Aziraphale needed something calming, not for the boy who lay dying in his lap, but for himself, so he did not fall to pieces. Something that would focus his mind, ease his pain, if only for a little while.
The song rose up within him before he even realized he was singing it. He knew the tune like the back of his hand, the words by memory. This song had been one his mother used to sing to him every night as he’d fallen asleep all those years ago, before his heart had been broken into a million tiny pieces. Before he’d lost her and his father to the never-ending fighting.
I wish to you sunshine, my dear one, my dear one And treetops for you to soar past. I wish to you innocence, my child, my child I pray you don’t grow up too fast.
Never know pain, my dear one, my dear one Nor hunger nor fear nor sorrow. Never know war, my child, my child Remember your hope for tomorrow.
My prayer is simple, my dear one, my dear one May you never need understand My prayer is for peacetime, my child, my child Live it well, and this life can be grand.
Aziraphale sang that song over and over. He sang until his tears had dried and his throat was sore. He sang until his hands stopped shaking and his words grew more steady.
He sang until the sun began to peek over the horizon, bringing with it the hope of a new day. The boy’s breath had evened out sometime during the night as Aziraphale had sung to him and ran his fingers through the soft red curls. They were even more vibrant now underneath the morning light. Aziraphale had never seen anything like them before.
Avians had the predisposition for darker hair color, to reflect the coloring of their second form - black for ravens and crows, a mousy brown for sparrows and several other smaller birds. Even the hawks - the royalty in their culture - had lighter, honey brown hair. Out of everyone he knew, Aziraphale’s appearance was the most striking. Blue eyes were often a sign of the Serpiente, who were all born with eyes like gemstones. He had never seen a serpent’s gaze before, but Aziraphale had heard the stories, how an Avian could get lost in eyes as brilliant as those. Stunned into inaction, giving the serpents time to strike.
What color eyes did this boy have? Certainly not garnet, the color of the Serpiente royal family. Perhaps a brilliant sapphire, or maybe emerald. Aziraphale’s song stopped as he looked at the boy’s face in the dawning light. Some color had returned to his cheeks, filling them with an endearing rosy color.
Suddenly, the boy shifted. Aziraphale froze, watching with wide blue eyes as sunlight spilled over the trees behind him, casting a shadow across the boy’s face. In an instant, the Avian had shifted into his demi form, white wings splayed out behind him in case he needed to make a quick escape.
He only prayed they were still the only two here.
Aziraphale’s breath caught in his throat as the boy’s eyes fluttered open. He watched as eyes the color of rich honey met his and the Avian finally understood the legends. He was trapped in that gaze, captivated by its beauty, unable to look away or flee or do anything to defend himself. He was completely at this boy’s mercy.
“‘M I dead? Are you…an angel…?” the boy murmured, closing his eyes against the bright sunlight as it shone above them. Aziraphale felt the spell over him break and he took his opportunity.
In an instant he had slipped out from under the serpent’s head, transformed into his dove form and took to the skies without a second glance back, leaving the serpent boy behind to face his fate alone.

heyyo this is a response to the person who asked about the zutara book. I read predominantly YA (high fantasy) books so the answer to that question will skew that way.
idk if anyone outside the YA (Young Adult) book community knows this, but there are SOOO many YA authors who are zutara shippers and/ or had their first book inspired by them. I've never seen the panel but I'm guessing this is about Tomi Adeyemi's children of blood and bone series (the author has said many times during the lead up to the release that the main ship is based off zutara). Roshani Chokshi (author of the gilded wolves series, the star touched queen series, and the pandava quartet (this is an MG book tho)) is a zutara shipper. I heard that Audean and Isulet from the Witchlands series by Susan Dennard is also inspired by zutara, but i never heard to author say that.
there are other books by other authors that give MAJOR zutara vibes, but i've never heard the author say anything about them shipping zutara. i.e. The Tiger at Midnight series by Swati Teerdhala. The dude is from a sun imagery country. the girl is from a moon imagery country. they're on the opposite sides of the war bc they sun imagery country attacked the moon imagery country 10 years ago. the dude is chasing the girl, but the girl is trying to stop the war. dude starts to learn that his country isn't all good like he learnt in school while he is chasing after the girl. the girl is haunted by the memory of a soldier from an elite squad that killed her parents. like i can go on about this series (literally filled the zutara whole in my heart. THIS SERIES IS PERFECTION. swear to god im planning on rereading this series soon bc i read it WAYYY too quickly even tho i finished the series 3 months ago)
there is also the daughter of smoke and bone series by Lani Taylor. its been a while since i read it but it has omashu/ zutara feel.
heartless by marissa meyer (kinda??). its kinda like a forbidden romance book???? the boy and the girl kinda sorta have feelings for each other, but the king of hearts (this is a prequel to how the queen of hearts became who she is) has his eyes set on the MC and wants to marry her. The girl doesn't want to, but he's the king so she's in a delimma . PLUS the king of hearts asks the love interest for love advice to win her over (geee why does this remind me of a very famous zutara fic????? 😂 😂😂)
Anyway there are WAYYYY more but this is all that i can think of the top of my head???? im planning on making a post about all the books that give me zutara vibes so ill send you more when i finish if you want.
WOW!!!
First of all, thank you for taking the time to write this and leave us all these recs. You are an absolute treasure. I had no idea any of these authors were shippers! Thanks for leaving this for the anon that asked and for the rest of us!
As for me, the biggest Zutara energy I've seen in a book is for Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. It is YA, but I've read it once a year for the past like 13 years or so, and it holds a very special place in my heart. Even if the author isn't a Zutara shipper herself, the whole book is big Zutara energy throughout!

Crowform: a Kiesha’ra fanfic
If you haven’t seen it, @raevenlywrites has an excellent Kiesha’ra fanfic out there called The Ties That Bind.
But one fic isn’t enough for my perfect Rei/Danica/Zane OT3, so I have finally begun writing the fic that I want to see in the world!
Crowform retells Hawksong and Snakecharm (with some alterations, especially throughout Snakecharm, to make the OT3 happen in text), from the POV of Andreios.
WARNING: MAJOR SNAKECHARM SPOILERS RIGHT FROM THE OUTSET
They say that the first avian was a woman named Alasdair, light and golden and raised by hawks, who gifted her people with similar forms.
It is a pretty myth, but the truth of the avians’ origins is as lost to time as the reasons for their generations-old war with the serpiente, their enemies. Our enemies.
We train, and fight, and kill. We mourn, and weep, and fight. No one knows how the fighting began. No one except perhaps my mother, and her Empress, and their court. They were around that long, that much I know; and they are steeped in enough power to glance as easily at the distant past as at a mirror, even if they were not there. But the shm’Ahnmik remain aloof from this conflict, except to offer the am’haj poison that gives the avians a fighting edge against the serpiente and perpetuates the war, except to send a bored young prince as an ambassador, with the offer of full protection in exchange for full subjugation.
But for all her centuries, my mother never learned to be careful where she sends a bored young prince, in case he doesn’t want to return. Or in case he’s in no position to fly home.
Read more on AO3
The alliance between the avians and my mother’s court is a fragile one, if it can even be called that; a falcon would never be welcome here. That is why I count it a blessing that I wear a crow’s form that I no longer remember how to shuck, because it is in the Hawk’s Keep that I am determined to make my life.
Even if it means losing it amidst the never-ending fighting.
My kind are long-lived, and time moves slowly on the white island, but I know that if I do not lose my life in the fighting, I will not be allowed to remain away from Ahnmik forever. So I must savour this time while it lasts, even if it is, at times, difficult to savour.
Days and weeks and years, and for almost every moment since I arrived here, I have been a liar. I wear the face of someone I once called friend, and it is more familiar to me than the one I was born with. My magic, already neglected, must surely have withered in the face of all the lies I have told, to everyone around me, every minute of every day. I lie every time I answer when they call me by name.
Days and weeks and years. I will never be able to be honest with the woman I love. I will never be able to tell her who I am.
Days and weeks and years.
How long until my mother’s Mercy comes for me?

8, 11, 20, and 23 for the writing ask!
Hi!! Thank you so much for asking these. ^o^
8.) Which character is your favorite to write?  Why?
This is hard!! I feel like I need to break it into categories so bear with this lengthy response. XD For anything D.Gray-Man related, Alma Karma is my favorite character - I really loved his story in canon though it’s a tragic one, and he’s a very enjoyable character to stick in all of the AU fics I write. He’s very dualistic in that he’s kind and sweet, but has a lot of potential for darkness? He’s very fun to play with. Anything Labyrinth related, I really like writing my take on teenage/older!Toby Williams, probably since his personality type reminds me of a softer version of Alma. He is someone I find relatable and has this gentleness to him that I find appealing to play with (especially since he’s at a point in the story I’m working on where that shifts into a more mature direction as he becomes more nuanced). On that same note, I also have grown to love writing Jareth, though I was really intimated when I first started writing him - he’s an enigma to pin down. With OCs, I haven’t shared much on any original content I work on, but I have one character who I’ve been developing and I love her. She’s a bit of a moody but altruistic herbalist for a fantasy story I’m slowly working on. She also has a lot of inner struggles she’s dealing with. I think the one things these characters all have in common is that they’re generally pretty multi-faceted. I like to play with characters who have a lot of sides and nuances, especially characters who tend to grapple with inner struggles. They just appeal to me the most with writing, and have the most fulfilling arcs to develop.
11.) What were your favorite books as a child?
Another hard one! >.< I have a fairytale book I always loved to read at my grandma’s - the illustrations are watercolor and very beautiful, and to this day it brings me a lot of comfort. Some more specific books I loved as a child were Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman by Brian Jacques, The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke, and The Giver by Lois Lowry. I also was a huge Amelia Atwater-Rhodes fan in middle school. Hawksong was my favorite book of hers.
20.) What color scheme is your current work in progress?
I’m not certain if this means like what color scheme the actual document I’m work on is or if it’s more an aesthetic question, but all word documents I work on are pale/ice blue! It’s the color I focus best looking at. XD If we’re talking what color scheme I’d associate with my current wip, the Labyrinth one would be charcoal gray and autumnal colors (reds, auburns, golds), or it could be silvery tones depending on how you think about it. The original story I’m slowly working on would have a color scheme of deep blues and silver.
23.) Do you make playlists for your works in progress, characters, or scenes?
You would think I do because I literally have a song/piece for everything I write, but I haven’t made any official playlists! (I think I just am too lazy to actually write one down, though sometimes if people ask I’ll give music recommendations for stories of mine they read.) I do have a set of instrumental pieces/songs I tend to go to for each fic I work on, and sometimes a song will become something of a theme I go to for inspiration if it feels like it captures the general atmosphere of the story. I do like to give different songs to pairings, too. ^^;

Oh my God it's been a thousand years since I saw anyone mention AAR or Hawksong but you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. It is SO Pitchanna. 😭 I might have to reread that book and write a fic now, what have you done!
Right? I never hear anyone talk about it despite the fact that every single girl remotely nerdy read those Back In The Day. I'm not even sure why that podcast made it pop in my head.
Please post the story if you do! There's only a tiny handful of us writing Pitchanna fics, and Arranged Marriage is one of my favorite tropes.

Has anyone read the book Hawksong?
Hawksong is an incredible book but Amelia Atwater-Rhodes that's just an incredible read. Its got romance, politics, culture, shapeshifting and so much more. It would be incredible to have a Zutara AU in the Hawksong universe. I've got so many ideas. If anyone wants to make a fic please let me know!

Kiesha’ra Timeline, and A Brand New Calendar
I’ve spent way too much time these past few days thinking about the timeline of Kiesha’ra, and other related matters. What started as “shit, how old was Danica when Mara died?” quickly turned into...well, this.
Below the cut is a canon timeline of Kiesha’ra events, a modified timeline to suit my own fics’ purposes, and a new calendar to use if you don’t feel like using BC Gregorian years for your Egyptian-cult-based fantasy worlds.
The first thing I made was the canon timeline. For the purpose of writing fic (what else), I needed to have a handy reference guide of when things happened. Months and days aren’t used at all in the Kiesha’ra books that I could find (using my Kindle search feature), but the reference material in the book does give Gregorian years for each relevant event. So, using that, I made this:
Tumblr media
Above is the Canon Timeline, which contains only events that have a confirmed time in the books, or in the Tree that is included in the book. This is almost entirely dates of birth and dates of death. I color-coded by the relevant races to each event: gold for avians, red for serpiente, silver-blue for falcons. I didn’t include anything that I would need to infer or guess at. This timeline is only what is explicitly stated in the book to have happened. I mostly used the tree, which you can find in the book, and on the wiki.
What I did not include in the timeline were the dates associated with Araceli (2896 BC), Cjarsa (2897 BC), Syfka (2900 BC), Servos (2909 BC), Maeve (2806 BC), Kiesha (2894-2870 BC), and Alasdair (2884 BC-2870 BC). This is because it’s not clear if those are the dates of their birth, or the dates they received their forms. If they are birth-death dates, then Alasdair was only 14 when she died, and was also only 10 years younger than Kiesha, who would have died at 24 the same year.  It would also mean that there’s only a year’s age difference between Aracali and Cjarsa, which would be...Extremely Concerning. But if those were the dates they received their forms, then Maeve received her form 100 years after Servos and the others, which doesn’t make sense since she was supposed to have been the one that received hers first.
Neither of these explanations make any sense, so I just decided to leave them out completely. I did recycle the years to use in my modified timeline, but I did not specify what event specifically they were in reference to.
But then, being me, I decided to go a little bit further, and make my own slightly  modified timeline of events, as seen below:
Tumblr media
Less color-coding now, because it made it very difficult to read. Most of this timeline is additions:
I gave a year of birth for Curtis (Danica and Mara’s father), Vasili, Ealanor, Galen (Irene’s mate), and Valene Silvermead.
I made a definite time for Anjay’s journey to Ahnmik, Kel’s exile, Valene’s exile, and Adelina and Ailbhe’s arrival at the serpiente palace and their promotion to guard captains. I also, of course, have a few OC’s and OC events that I added.
I did make some changes to the timeline, which are purely for my own purposes: Danica is now older than Zane by two years, the events of Hawksong take place over the course of two years rather than a few months, and I pushed the completion of Wyvern’s Court back by a few years.
Now one thing you’ll notice about this modified timeline is that I have “Falcon Years,” “Serpiente Years,” and “Avian Years.” That’s because I realized that the events we had were given in relation to Gregorian Years, which makes no sense given the time and place the story takes place. So! I made a new calendar for the Kiesha’ra to use. The years I used to establish the races’ calendars were based off of the years associated with Cjarsa (2897 BC, which becomes 0 on the falcon calendar), Kiesha (2894 BC, which is 0 on the serpiente calendar, and 3 on the falcon calendar), and Alasdair (2884 BC, which is 0 on the avian calendar, 10 on the serpiente calendar, and 13 on the falcon calendar.) I figured using these years was a pretty safe bet, whether they’re birth dates or form dates.
Of course, who would I be if I stopped just at years? A coward and a fool, that’s who. So, I did some research, found the Ancient Egyptian solar civil calendar, and modified it slightly for each race, as seen below:
Tumblr media
Now this is purely 100% headcanon at this point, not even remotely based off of anything in canon besides the Egyptian roots of all three races. None of them are identical to each other, nor are they identical to the original Egyptian calendar as far as names. They all, however, share the same 10-day week, 3-week month, 4-month season, and 3-season year. They also have 5 holy days, which brings the total number of days in the year up to 365.
As far as the names of the months, I did have the falcons borrow very heavily from the Egyptian calendar, since most of them are old enough to still be using whatever they used in the beginning. The serpiente are similar to the falcons, but they have their differences. The avians are based off of the falcons as well, but they have the most deviance.
The final and most fun thing I made was the holy days. In the Egyptian calendar, the five holy days were tacked onto the end of the year, and each day was dedicated to a god. I used that template for the serpiente only.
For the falcons, I gave them only three holy days, and made up for it by adding an extra day into the third and sixth months of the year, which are days of rest. The holy days I came up with for the falcons are the Day of Song, the Day of Break, and the Day of Power. The Day of Song is very similar to the Festival of the avians, and is the day that celebrates Cjarsa’s birthday. The Day of Break is a day of great mourning, and represents the day that the Dasi split. The Day of Power is a day of celebration, and celebrates the day that Cjarsa received her falcon form.
For the serpiente, I gave them the five holy days the Egyptians celebrated at the end of the year, giving them one day for each god they worshipped. Half a week of partying sounds like a very serpiente thing, right? According to the book and Wikipedia, the Dasi that worshipped Anhamirak also worshipped four other gods with similar powers to hers. That is enough gods for five holy days! Because only two of those gods were named, I took some liberties and came up with three more gods, Let, Kimet, and Eko, for the serpiente to worship. I gave them the domains of Change, Creation, and Memory respectively.
For the avians, I gave them five holy days, which are sprinkled throughout the year and are determined based on solar events. The first is the only one that is mentioned in the book, which is rather plainly just called Festival, which I interpreted as a celebration of Alasdair’s life. I created four more days, with both plain names and fancy names: Birthday (Feast of Queens/Summer Solstice), Mourning (Death of Alasdair), Roosting (Darkest Days/Winter Solstice), and Bonding (Lovers’ Day.)
I may later come up with names for the days of the week, but since the Egyptian calendar had no such thing, I’ll leave that the way it is for now.
So there it is! All the unnecessary work I’ve done the past few days to wrangle the Kiesha’ra timeline into something I can work with!

you lovely people I really hope you can help me, I am thinking about this fic for weeks now and I can‘t find it. I just remember this one scene: the hales were alive and maybe royal(?) and they were out hunting in there wolf form for full moon and stiles was there too. Then there was an attack or something and the wolves ran and Stiles stayed behind to watch over and protect Talias pups and got hurt by doing so. It was sterek, I‘m sure. Please help me ❤️
Hey anon! @tugabooos thinks it might be this one!
Tumblr media
The Fox & The Wolf by Dexterous_Sinistrous
(10/10 | 79, 151 | Explicit | Sterek)
The war between the fox and wolf clans has raged for centuries, ignited in a time before anyone can remember. Now both clans—tired of the bloodshed and hate—are searching for a way to end the war.
Crowned prince Stiles Stilinski—heir to the fox clan—has agreed with his father to meet with the Hales, the ruling royal family over the wolf clan. Under the counseling of the Druids, both clans are presented with a solution to the war: unite the Stilinski and Hale clans through marriage. To quell their people's anger, both Stiles and Derek—eldest living Hale Alpha—are urged to accept the other as an equal; as their mate.
For the sake of their people, both houses make the ultimate sacrifice by choosing duty over love. But, out of what was first assumed to be compromised, quickly turns to be a better match than either could have hoped for. But not all is easy for either clan, as some members refuse to believe that the war could end so easily.
[Update: I'm stating here, because some people aren't reading the author note at the beginning, this story was inspired by/based on Amelia Atwater-Rhodes' Hawksong]

The Peace of Wild Things - A SoMA HawkSong AU
Maka Albarn is the last remaining heir of her people, a race of avian shapeshifters who have been at war with the serpiente for so long that the reason for fighting has long been lost. She is desperate to save her people and end the bloodshed, and is willing to do whatever it takes to do so - even if it means accepting Soul Evans, the leader of her people’s enemy, as her pair bond. However, there are forces within both courts determined to prevent peace at all costs. Meanwhile, both heirs begin to learn that the other is not the enemy they once thought they knew, and begin to find friendship and even love with the other.
Hey all! This is my first piece for the 2018 Resbang event, and I had the absolute pleasure of working with the wonderful @fullmetalgrigori!! FMG is AMAZING, and totally got me addicted to this AU! You were amazing to work with too! <3 The other awesome artist that got to work with FMG was @peregr1ne, you should totally go check out their amazing artworks for this story as well! They’re BEAUTIFUL!
I loved this AU so much, I actually went out and bought the whole series of books to read! I am LOVING The Kiesha'ra Series, but because I’ve been so busy the last few months, I’m still only on the first book, Hawksong, haha!
Again, a huge shout out to @fullmetalgrigori and @peregr1ne for letting me work with them on this project! THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH! And a huge thanks to the @resbangmod for putting the whole thing together!
You can find FMG’s fic HERE!! GO READ IT! IT. IS. AWESOME!

Oh goodness! I'm so sorry anon. Tumblr never sent me a notification for this and I just now saw it. To make up for the wait, here's a whole paragraph from the chapter I plan to post later today. I hope you enjoy!

So...is the entire Zutara fandom simply going to continue to ignore/miss the chance to write a fic based on Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes? Or?
Because, RUDE.

A new book means time for a new post, I think!
My Kiesha’ra fanfiction Crowform follows the narrative of Hawksong and Snakecharm by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (with a few minor changes coming up in Snakecharm) from the point of view of the character known as Andreios.
Heads up - this fic has MAJOR spoilers for Snakecharm. Chapter 18 of the fic - which picks up where Snakecharm begins - is up now!
