So I go by Nick with most of my friends at this point and use any pronouns and theyre all very good about switching it up sometimes but one of my friends primarily refers to me as "he" which is cool i dont care but it didnt register to me as an issue until i met up with him and some of his straight friends a while back and on seeing me they all had identical looks on their faces like they were short circuiting and one even asked my friend "this is Nick?" At which point i realized they were probably expecting a cis man and not a fem person in a crop top with boobs and so on and now i eagerly await the day i meet more of his friends just to see it happen again because why have a gender if ur not gonna be funny about it

My trip to Kaua'i, Hawai'i
Tumblr media
Yellow Hibiscus: The state flower of Hawai'i. Called the “pua mao hau hele” or “Ma’o hau hele” in the Hawaiian Language (ʻŌlelo).
Tumblr media
Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose): The rarest waterfowl in the world. Nearly brought to extinction in 1990 with 50 wild individuals. Captive-breeding programs and reintroduction efforts have given the native nēnē a chance with now over 3,862 birds statewide. I was lucky enough to see wild nēnē goslings. Very special.
Tumblr media
Honu (Green Sea Turtle): An endangered species most commonly found near the Hawaiian Island Chain. Typically reaching sexual maturity around 20 years of age, Green sea turtles nest on the same beach where they hatched. This is a photo I took of a female rising up from the shore to lay her eggs.

Landscape photos I took on my trip in Kaua'i.
Kaua'i is one of many islands comprising the Hawaiian Volcanic Island Archipelago. I bought a Kaua'i Geologic History Book to learn more about the island and I am very excited to read it.

I don't even know what to say about Lahaina, Maui and the lack of a response on ANY LEVEL of government to this crisis.
The failure appears to stretch across Local, State AND Federal Government.
On the day of the fire, children were sent home from school, people sent home, and people who DID try to escape, were directed straight into the disaster.
Now, not just Lahaina and ground zero, but an area stretching far around the burnt areas are blocked by rapidly erected black mesh fencing, anyone caught recording near the fencing or even just pulled over on the side of the road are immediately chased off by anonymous government officials or the National Guard. And, of course, only Mainstream sources are given any real access to officials in controlled environments, asking unserious questions.
The Capitalist Elites are already talking non-stop about digitalizing government in Maui, with similar propaganda and language to that used to push DIIA in Ukraine.
If you can't see what's happening, the preparations in the making for the complete and utter LOOTING and ROBBING of Maui, the displacement of its people, and the coming gentrification, or you find yourself defending this government, this administration, or the Democratic Party, you haven't just lost touch with reality, you've lost touch with empathy and your humanity.

Another fast food joint that targeted this Lunar New Year is Pizza Hut Singapore. They called theirs Hu-at! Cheong Gai Pizza which blends the nostalgia-inducing and ravishing flavours of prawn paste sauce with tomatoes, an array of cheese plus umami-rich and juicy chicken bites!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Bought a large Hu-at! Cheong Gai Pizza at 50% off (S$20.45) and a regular size Hawaiian Pizza (S$14.90) as Pizza Hut no longer sells the Seafood Deluxe pizza. Beside the umaminess of the prawn paste chicken, the pizza also carries a mild spiciness which goes well with the creamy cheese. Too bad it will not be available in the regular menu after Chinese New Year. :(

Pray for Hawaii.
So many are losing their homes, their memories, their lives. Historical towns and so much culture and history being destroyed by the fires. I will be out there in 2 weeks and hope to see them pulling out of this destruction as soon as possible. Pray for Hawaii 😔

I have. Drafted the rest of the episodes for the WT Noco kiss comic universe (which I’m henceforth calling “World Tour but NoCo are the only ones kissing.”) My brain is so close to exploding and turning to mush

They’re inaccurate, trust me I know. But the medals the aviators in Top Gun wear are cool and have meanings and map out a person’s military career.
Many caught my eye, but one in particular had me thinking, the Humanitarian Service Medal. In my research I found a table of approved operations for the HSM award put together by the government. That means he would have had to participate in and assist in one of the operations on the list. On the list I searched for one that caught my eye from the late 70s to early 80s, prior to Top Gun where Iceman and the others are seen wearing them, and one stood out.
Hurricane Iwa Relief 1982 (Hawai’i, US)
Tumblr media
Hurricane Iwa was one of if not the worst hurricane Hawai’i had experienced up to that point in terms of damage. It also happened to be the “first hurricane to hit Hawaii in 23 years” according to The New York Times.
It was the final storm of hurricane season, occurring just before Thanksgiving on November 25, 1982 with winds of up to 110 mph. There were widespread power outages across several of the islands and very few structures had flashlights or candles, let alone backup generators.
Tumblr media
Ignoring the timeline of their careers in terms of specific years because it doesn't make sense to begin with, I'm picturing Iceman, Cougar, Goose, and Slider at the Academy or Flight School having just seen the news of the hurricane on the TV in a common space. Ice is in total shock because he and many others he grew up with all believed the islands couldn't be touched by hurricanes. There certainly hadn't been any hurricanes while he'd lived there and there hadn’t been any ever longer before then. Hawai'i was the one place that felt like home and Ice was watching his home be destroyed by Hurricane Iwa.
He decided right then and there that he had to do something, and because all of staff liked him he was able to get the day before Thanksgiving off. But his friends knew that Hawai’i was important to him, maybe not aware of just how important but they knew it was the only place he talked about fondly, the only place he’d share memories and stories from with a smile.
He never asked for them to come with him and miss their own Thanksgivings but they had hearts of gold. Nick volunteered first, his caring soul had seemingly infinite amount of kindness and compassion for helping others. Bill and Tom were close, like brothers, so of course Bill was going to go with. And Ron shared a bond with Tom, knowing how important it was to have a stable home.
And so they all flew out to the west coast and caught a ride to the island on a seaplane Tom’s friend typically used to fly around tourists but was now using to bring much needed supplies to those who need it. It now made sense why Tom had experience flying seaplanes. They met up with some of his old friends and helped out where they could, reuniting people who had been separated from their loved ones, delivering supplies, etc.
They couldn’t fix everything in those couple of days, the residents would be clearing debris for months following, but Tom would never forget all that they had done for him that week. And despite the devastating nature of the event, that Thanksgiving would go down as one of Tom’s favorites, surrounded by friends and friends he considered closer than family.

When I hit the lottery I'm hiring a personal seamster. Nothing store bought looks good on me and I don't like what's in fashion and even though I've been sewing for 20 years I don't actually particularly enjoy it. My favorite part of the hobby is picking out fabric and patterns. Their job will be to put that shit together for me.

Joe Biden designates Avi Kwa Ame a national monument
President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday Avi Kwa Ame as a national monument in Nevada, following up on a promise he made in late 2022.
Biden also declared a national monument in Texas and the creation of a marine sanctuary in U.S. waters near the Pacific Remote Islands southwest of Hawai'i.
Biden spoke at the White House Conservation in Action Summit at the Interior Department with Fort Mojave Indian Tribal Chairman Timothy Williams commending him during his introduction.
“Under his leadership we have a seat at the table and we are seeing an unprecedented era and opportunity for our tribal communities,” Williams said. “And we are all grateful to the president for taking historic action to combat the climate crisis and conserve and restore our nation’s land and waters.”
Williams was among the proponents to make Avi Kwa Ame, also known as Spirit Mountain, a national monument. It’s considered sacred to the Mojave people and for the nine other Yuman-speaking tribes along the Colorado River, as well as the Hopi and Chemehuevi Paiute tribes, Williams said.
The site in southern Nevada spans more than 500,000 acres near the Arizona and California state lines. It’s home to bighorn sheep, desert tortoises and a large concentration of Joshua trees, some of which are more than 900 years old. It’s also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It took more than three months for Biden to make the announcement.
“It’s a place of reverence, it’s a place of spirituality, it’s a place of healing and now it will be recognized for its significance it holds and be preserved forever,” Biden said. “I look forward to visiting it myself.”
He thanked Williams and the legislative leaders who advocated for Avi Kwa Ame including Nevada Rep. Dina Titus, Democrat, who sponsored a bill to protect the rugged region near the Mojave National Preserve from development, including solar farms and a proposed wind farm.
“To the native people who point to Avi Kwa Ame as their spiritual birthplace, and every Nevadan who knows the value of our cherished public lands: Today is for you,″ Titus tweeted.
The Honor Avi Kwa Ame coalition, which includes tribes, local residents, state lawmakers and conservation groups, said its members were "overjoyed" to learn the site will be a new national monument.
"Together, we will honor Avi Kwa Ame today — from its rich Indigenous history, to its vast and diverse plant and wildlife, to the outdoor recreation opportunities created for local cities and towns in southern Nevada by a new gorgeous monument right in their backyard," the group said.
Interior Secretary Deb Haaland released a press release praising the announcement.
“I am grateful to President Biden for taking this important step in recognition of the decades of advocacy from tribes and the scientific community, who are eager to protect the objects within its boundaries,” Haaland stated.“Together with tribal leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, local elected officials, and other stakeholders, we will manage this new monument for the benefit of current and future generations.”
In Texas, Biden plans to create the Castner Range National Monument in El Paso. It’s the ancestral homeland of the Comanche and Apache people, and its cultural ecology is considered sacred to several Indigenous communities.
The designation will protect the cultural, scientific and historic objects found within the monument's boundaries, honor U.S. veterans, service members and tribal nations, and expand access to outdoor recreation on public lands, the White House said.
Located on Fort Bliss, Castner Range served as a training and testing site for the U.S. Army during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The Army ceased training at the site and closed Castner Range in 1966.
The Castner Range monument "will preserve fragile lands already surrounded on three sides by development,'' help ensure access to clean water and protect rare and endangered species, said Rep. Veronica Escobar, Democrat-Texas.
“The people of El Paso have fought to protect this for 50 years. Their work has finally paid off,” Biden said.
Biden designated his first national monument, in Colorado, last year. In 2021, he restored the boundaries for Bears Ears National Monument in Utah after they were significantly narrowed by President Donald Trump, a Republican.
In the Pacific, Biden will direct the Commerce Department to consider initiating a new national marine sanctuary designation within 30 days to protect all U.S. waters around the Pacific Remote Islands. If completed, the 777,000 square miles, southwest of Hawaii, will help ensure the U.S. reaches Biden's goal to conserve at least 30 percent of ocean waters under U.S. jurisdiction by 2030, the White House said.
Among Hawaiian state leaders, Biden thanked Native Hawaiian leaders who “worked tirelessly to protect our oceans. I want to thank you. I genuinely mean it, it wouldn't have happened without you.”
Biden also announced a series of steps to conserve, restore and expand access to public lands and waters across the country, the White House said.
The proposals seek to modernize management of America's public lands, harness the power of the ocean to help fight climate change, and better conserve wildlife corridors. Biden also will announce new spending to improve access to outdoor recreation, promote tribal conservation and reduce wildfire risk.
Bidden added he’s committed to working with tribal leaders and legislative leaders on bringing “healthy and abundant” salmon run back to the Colorado River system.
“There’s nothing beyond our capacity if we work together,” Biden said.
