Saltburn Spoilers

I think my favorite thing about viewing saltburn second time around was being able to sit within the love and lust between Felix and Oliver. First time I was so anticipatory and very in a place of what the fuck is going to happen next that the absolute magnetism and solar system like rotation they do between each other just did not have time to sink in.

But second time around, free of the fear of what could happen and able to really just absorb the scenes as they happened. I was so much more attached and moved by the young stupid love between them.

Obviously knowing Oliver was plotting from the beginning took away from it, but also the perspective made his emotions feel more real.

Yes he was just a moth to a flame and yes exactly what Venetia said. In the end he consumed him and licked the plate clean. But there was an interim and it was sweet and genuine.

He simply couldn't help himself, he fell for Felix.

He did just, love Felix and Felix loved him. It was young and boyish and innocently intoxicating.

(Well,,,, up until the murder of Felix and his entire family at the hand's of one Mr. Quick)

But having that breathing room to sit in the sweet small interim made it feel so much more tragic and grotesque.

That's what this movie does so well, the combination of the emotions. Young Love coupled perfectly with a Violent Obsession. Lustful and genuinely arousing sex scenes attached to visual and emotional disgust.

As Emerald Fennel said in an interview, It should've been a love story

But it wasn't a love story. It was a decent into madness, it was horrific, it was hard to watch.

But it was also fun, and enticing, and it asked you to love a character that selfishly killed the only person he ever loved.

And I ate that shit up, and licked the plate clean.

not someone trying to call maya an abuser to diss lucaya like... she gave him a few nicknames. the entire show all she did was give him nicknames and that was pretty much the entire extent of her teasing him. and he gave back equally in their dynamic too. yes it's probably unkind to call people nicknames especially when they express discomfort with it i'll admit that much, and lucas didn't seem to be too happy about it (honestly most of the time he was fond of this habit too and enjoyed the experience hence "putting thought into their little game") but that does not equate to abuse bestie! that's an extreme place to go just because you don't like a ship akdjfjfjfj

and it's admittedly mean to make fun of someone's heritage, but even that didn't really go to a level where it became uncomfortable either. lucas is from texas and maya made occasional jokes about it based on stereotypes? which may not be that great but this is a show about middle school characters and while i'm not saying maya's actions are okay and acceptable, she is a literal child! i guarantee y'all were just as annoying and mean when you were in middle school XD

#and a case can hardly be made for verbal abuse either bc disney would never go to that kind of extreme and excuse that behavior #the channel is directed towards children and literally 100% of the episodes end with a lesson/bad behavior being punished #also the post i'm referencing compared maya to Sam from icarly and her behavior in her relationship with freddie #like she's the one that went far enough to make it uncomfortable not maya!!! #sam was the one being genuinely unkind and mean and even going so far as to bring physical violence into their interactions #a case can be made for sam's abusiveness but not maya lmfao #was maya wrong for some of her behavioral choices?? probably but abuse is not the correct word by far XDDD #anna speaks #girl meets world #lucaya #maya hart

they're so sweet. i love spoiled ass whiny baby man (/pos) showering violet in love and affection because he totally grew up without being shown love. while violet has her problems i hope this relationship helps change her for the better.

and the way Arthur bought the whole restaurant just so she could eat there.
