TV AM’s Lizzie Webb and George Harrison at Friar Park, early 1990s; photographer unknown (photo 1 courtesy of Henley Standard).
“We discovered that apparently, he’s an After Nine fan. [George] works out with Lizzie [Webb] regularly and apparently he even watched the feature on make-up for the older face. Though judging by the interview, which you’re going to see very shortly, he doesn’t need any tips because he’s looking extremely good indeed.” - TV-AM After Nine, October 20, 1987 "[Harrison] appeared to promote his 1987 single Got My Mind Set On You. It reached number two in the UK charts and Harrison later phoned Mrs Webb to thank her for giving it a boost. He also sent her a Christmas card featuring a photograph of the pair. Mrs Webb said: 'I was touched that a star of his magnitude would take the time for such a lovely gesture. I’ve got a lot of gold discs from record labels thanking me for my help as I had such a big audience that people wanted to listen to "whatever music Lizzie’s using this week."'" - Henley Standard, July 28, 2019 The fitness theme may or may not be connected to getting in shape for touring: “‬[Ahead of the Japan Tour] I got myself kinda fit — I mean, not *too* fit, but more fit than I would’ve been if I’d just been hanging out not doing anything.” - George Harrison, Goldmine, November 27, 1992 (x) “With my music at TV-AM, one day I had a record from a solo artist by the name of George Harrison. And he was the Beatle I always fancied. So I thought, I’ve got to use it no matter what it’s like, played it, and it was great, up tempo: ‘I’ve Got My Mind Set On You.’ So I did it, and lo and hold, it got in the charts. One day I went home and there was this voice on my recording machine. ‘Hello, this is George Harrison. I want to thank you for making my record a hit.’ I thought, this is Rory Bremner, this can’t be George Harrison! Do you know, he’d found out my phone number and phone me to thank me? Then one day at TM-AM, I got this amazing Christmas card, and it’s from George. ‘Dear Lizzie,’ and he apologized for being out of the country, ‘my next record is going to When We Were Fab.’ He said, ‘You’ll have to make it “When We Were Flab.” He invited me to his house and we sat in his kitchen. And I’ll never forget it, in the kitchen was this little black and white picture of him as a little boy sitting on the doorstep of his house that he was brought up in. And he said, ‘I never forget.’” - Lizzie Webb, My Time Capsule Podcast interview, 2023

Simone decided to purchase Club Gerbit and take over management of it, the first time it’s been owned since Emily and Jay Lewis sold it!
Opening night is a success, the guests enjoyed themselves and so did Simone. I also discovered she has three bolts with Callum which is uhhh.... I don’t know if I can in good conscience allow that to turn into anything but, we’ll see what happens I guess??

connection between wartime administration & federalist-lean?
There's an argument that wartime service and experiencing Congress' failures firsthand as Washington's aide de camp pushed Hamilton further into the ideals that would later be seen as Federalist: a national instead of state outlook, a permanent military power, and a strong, efficient government.
I was wondering if that argument can be applied on a broader scale: is there an overall connection between revolutionary wartime administration and federalist-leaning political beliefs?
I'm by no means qualified but for my own curiosity's sake, I tried to find the political inclinations of former leaders in the war as well as members of Washington's family, who arguably should have seen the same inefficiencies as Hamilton.
Major Generals:
Washington: Tried very hard to be nonpartisan, but pretty federalist when all's said and done. Especially in 2nd term as president and in last years of life Horatio Gates: Supported Jefferson's presidency, so assuming he was leaning Democratic-Republican? Henry Knox: Federalist Philip Schuyler: Federalist William Alexander, Lord Stirling: Not sure John Sullivan: Federalist, led drive in New Hampshire for Constitution's ratification Thomas Mifflin: Federalist according to Wikipedia (was also aide to GW from June to August 1775) Arthur St. Clair: Federalist. Governor of Northwest Territory, removed by Jefferson in 1802 due to political party differences. Benjamin Lincoln: Federalist, strong policies and presence in Massachusetts Thomas Conway: Unreliable source says Federalist William Moultrie: Some sites say Federalist but he had falling out with Washington because of his pro-French actions towards Genet. Possibly nonpartisan.
Washington's family (Aides, Culper, Life Guard. If they died before we can quantify as "Federalist", then not included):
Note: I tried to include length of service and timeline, arguably important (there during Valley Forge or good period?), but it's difficult in consideration of leave and such. Used Wikipedia's dates.
Edmund Randolph (August - November 75): Wiki says Federalist but I know enough about him that he was often the swinging vote in Washington's cabinet, and that he didn't sign the Constitution because he thought it too strong. Tench Tilghman (August 76 - June 80 | June 80 - Nov 83): Died in 1786. I shouldn't include him but raise a glass for our hardworking Tilghman. Robert Harrison (Nov 75 - May 76 | Military Sec May 76 - 81): Died in 1790. Wikipedia says Federalist. John Fitzgerald (Nov 76 - July 78): Couldn't find John Walker (Feb - March 77): Unreliable source says Federalist Samuel Blachley Webb (June 76 - Jan 77): Couldn't find William Grayson (Assistant Sec. July - August 76 | Aide August 76 - Jan 77): Leader of Anti-Federalist faction with Mason, Monroe, etc. died in 1790 Alexander Contee Hanson Sr. (Assistant Sec. June - Sep 76): Federalist according to Wiki Alexander Hamilton (March 77 - April 81): Is this even a question? Stephen Moylan (March 76 - June 76 | Sept. 76 - Jan 77): "Firm Federalist" according to Founders Online James McHenry (May 78 - August 80): Federalist, GW's Secretary of War in 2nd term when cabinet members were much more partisan. Richard Kidder Meade (March 77 - November 80): Couldn't find. I know that he was very close with Hamilton, which makes me think it possible that their politics had some similarities? But entirely speculation. Hodijah Baylies (May 82 - Dec 83): Federalist. According to Founders Online, Gallatin was advised against Baylies because he was a "decided and we believe a sentimental federalist”. David Cobb (June 81 - Jan 83 | June 83 - Dec 83): Wiki says Federalist Peregrine Fitzhugh (July 81 - Oct 81): Not sure if same Peregrine Fitzhugh, but in a letter to Jefferson in 1807, said: "It is true I have been called a Federalist, and feel a pride in being so: but my Federalism is firmed in those principles which dictated the correct and memorable declaration that we were all Federalists all republicans" William Stephens Smith (July 81 - June 82): Federalist (member of Congress as Federalist in 1812) David Humphreys (June 80 - Dec 83): Federalist. He was part of the Hartford Wits and wrote the poem The Anarchiad. "In 1802, Thomas Jefferson...decided to replace Humphreys...Historians speculate that Humphreys's closeness to the Federalist Party motivated Jefferson’s decisions." from Mt. Vernon Richard Varick (Aide & Priv Sec May 81 - Dec 83): Apparently Federalist and later mayor of New York Benjamin Walker (Jan 82 - Dec 83): Federalist, elected to Congress as Federalist
Caleb Gibbs (May 76 - Dec 80): Couldn't find Nathaniel Sackett: Couldn't find Benjamin Tallmadge (1778 - 1783): Federalist, part of minority in Congress during Jefferson & Madison administrations
Other aides who might've had administrative work, although I'm not sure:
Aaron Burr: Very short run with Washington, and Israel Putnam's aide. Technically Democratic-Republican, but some historians have noted his politics did not always align with a party.
James Monroe: Aide to Stirling, Republican-Democratic
Concerns:
First concern: I'm not sure if the other major generals' aides would see as much administrative work directly with Congress as Washington's aides. I'm under the impression that other generals would report to Washington, than Congress, but I'm not sure.
Second concern: I also want to add that other factors would have most definitely played a role, such as familial and economic interests, which may or may not have been influenced by the war. Still, I thought it would be an interesting exercise.
Third concern: A lot of this is very shallow research as I did not have the time or energy to really dig into all of them. Please let me know if there is any inaccurate information (even Federalist or Democratic Republican is a very broad term and I'm sure their beliefs varied).
Please let me know if you see any inaccurate information, or anyone/some branch I did not consider!

Have you read HR with the hero or heroine wearing glasses?
Yeah for sure!
Never Seduce a Duke by Vivienne Lorret--I think this one actually has a little poem about how the duke wears glasses lol.
Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas--Catherine Marks wears glasses and Leo naturally wants to fuck her constantly. In Tempt Me at Twilight there's a moment when he fantasizes about her spread out naked and wearing her glasses after he's railed her. Then of course it goes "he decided to bother her" because it's them.
Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas--Sara wears glasses, and Derek Craven steals them because he's a freak like that.
(Also.... I need people to get reading comprehension because while I don't expect everyone to love this book, I recently brought this moment of as an example of how Derek is clearly stuck on Sara and doesn't understand the feeling and takes the glasses because he's obsessed and wants something of hers... And someone goes "I just thought he did that to be a tool". Jesus Christ people. Read between the lines, I fucking beg. Again, you don't have to like him, but for the sake of writers please try to understand subtlety and nuance lol.)
Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt. Godric wears glasses, and also wears a sleeping outfit that sounds like he's Ebeneezer Scrooge.
One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean. Pippa wears glasses and is a general scientist type. I think Adelaide may wear glasses at points in Heartbreaker as well?
The Truth About Cads and Dukes by Elisa Braden. I'm not 10000% certain, but I think Jane wears glasses. Either way, dude, Harrison is ready to bend her over a table at any given moment.
A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare. I can't remember if Minerva wears glasses or is just a massive nerd, but I think she does wear them.
The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian. I think Kit wears glasses.

"Heavy Harry looks like its about to go postal"
Tumblr media
So goes one of the comments under this cartoon by John Draper for the SAR 520 Restoration SteamRanger group.
Going postal would not be too out of character for Heavy Harry, he is very easily angered; '01 for her part looks incredibly outraged, like actually personally offended.
For her part, R761 just looks confused as hell.
As a Victorian gunzel I had a good laugh, just cause seeing my bitter boy in a cartoon, even in a sardonic one is always a hoot. I appreciate the backhanded acknowledgement of both Harry and the Rs being representative of our state's flagship locos alongside '01. It hits just right.
I gotta say, this is one of the strangest comments I have ever seen:
Tumblr media
Except that the SAR 520 class has a very strong resemblance to the Pennsylvania Railroad T-1 Class, reflecting SAR Commissioner's William Webb's and CME Fred Hugh Harrison's penchant for American locomotive design and...
...and...
...and...
*reads that last line again*
*blinks*
*Gets visions of a Dalby-esque scene of Heavy Harry derailing*
I MUST DRAW THIS I MUST
Edit: to add link to the SAR Restoration 520 site https://www.steamrangerheritagerailway.org/volunteering-with-steamranger/520-restoration-appeal/

After Mr. Harrison had spoken, the question which I have before spoken of was brought forward to prevent the decision of which Mr. Hamilton, the American Cicero, arose.
Source — David Schuyler Bogart to Samuel Blachley Webb, [June 14, 1788]
It was during the state convention in Poughkeepsie that Hamilton took part in the campaign to ratify the United States Constitution in New York. He opposed conditional ratification, believing that New York would not enter the Union, while the Clinton faction, which wanted to amend the Constitution while retaining the states' secession rights, should their attempts fail.
But what I love most about this quote is the comparison to Marcus Tullius Cicero and Alexander Hamilton. Before I started studying Hamilton, I had a large interest in Roman history, especially Cicero. And it's undeniable that there are striking parallels between the two statesmen. Both Cicero and Hamilton were self-reliant figures in history, Novus homo. They were born in obscurity, under difficult means, but rose efficiently and quickly to respect through the ranks of military and civil service, resilient work, and their inception into law. Nonetheless, they were both forever burdened and never could completely suit themselves among the aristocrats of the upper-class. They even shared many characteristics; both of them were influential supporters of national constitutional power and were skilled - but also renowned to be digressive and garrulous - orators, and political philosophers. Additionally, both were incredibly stubborn, a common fault being that their refusal to yield their politics. Which would eventually lead to both their notable rise, as well as their ultimate downfall.
Hamilton often made classical references, that were even closely related to the Roman Senator. In 1794, Hamilton even wrote several essays for the American Daily Advertiser under the pseudonym, Tully. Which was an anglicized form of Marcus Tullius Cicero. [x] Additionally, he also referred to Burr as, Catiline. Which was not meant as a flattering compliment. Catiline was known for being involved in a plot to overthrow the Roman Republic. So, referring to Burr as “Catiline”, was implying that Burr was power-hungry and a threat to the new Republican US government. Hamilton wrote to Wolcott saying;
These things are to be inferred with moral certainty from the character of the man. Every step in his career proves that he has formed himself upon the model of Catiline, and he is too coldblo[o]ded and too determined a conspirator ever to change his plan.
Source — Alexander Hamilton to Oliver Wolcott Jr., [December 1800]
The two men clashed, as Catiline and Cicero were infamous rivals. Matters worsened after Cicero uncovered a conspiracy hatched by Catiline that would conduct the assassination of several elected officials and the burning of the city itself. The purpose of this attack on the city, at least as it turned out later, was to wipe out the debts of both the poor and the rich—including Catiline. Some believe the resulting disruption will force Catiline to assume the leadership role he so desperately wanted. Which parallels with Burr's failed election due to Hamilton endorsing Jefferson over him.

Harry Nilsson, Chris O’Dell, and George, circa 1973 or early 1974.
In later years… “We ended up in Tramp [in London, 1984]. I was with George [Harrison]. Harry [Nilsson] was there and Ringo was there. And it got really quite late. And for some reason we challenged the Italian waiters to a ‘Volare’ sing-off. We all climbed on a table and they all climbed on another table. And we tried to sing ‘Volare’ louder than they could. It was really funny.” - Eric Idle, Nilsson: The Life of a Singer-Songwriter (2013) “Then there was the time at Harry Nilsson’s funeral. Every songwriter was there – Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams, Van Dyke Parks, George, the list of people was scary and it was the day after the last big L.A. earthquake. So we are all sad and sullen and standing around the grave and George goes. ’[Expletive] You.’ And we are all shocked and we thought he was having some kind of angst. And then he says, ‘That was always my favorite song.’ [Hudson sings a la George] ‘You’re Breaking My Heart, Tearing it Apart, Well [Expletive] you,’ so then we all joined in and sang it.” - Mark Hudson, The Gibson Interview, July 26, 2010 By the way… the Son of Schmilsson album cover features a photo taken at Friar Park.
