Ancient Egyptian mummy masks, tombs and 'god of silence' statue discovered at Saqqara
Tumblr media
Archaeologists in Egypt have discovered a series of tombs dating from about 1,800 to 4,800 years ago, some of which contain colorful mummy masks and even the childlike statue of the god of silence, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The colorful mummy masks, which would have been worn by the dead, date to the Ptolemaic period (304 to 30 B.C.) and Roman period (29 B.C. to A.D. 641), according to Nozomu Kawai, the director of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Civilizations and Cultural Resources at Kanazawa University in Japan, who led the excavations.
The archaeologists also found a small statue showing Harpocrates, a Greek god that looks like a child who is associated with silence, riding a goose. The goose represents "an evil spirit over which the Divine Child triumphs," Kawai told Live Science in an email. Read more.

Just wanted to remind you that Apollo is a very Proud Dad™ because when AoD was trying to give this guy a clue in the TTT on the identity of Harpocrates, it decided to use doctors and Apollo without a second thought said Asclepius's name and then Will's as his favourite and best doctors

🌑 Subtle Harpocrates Worship 🌹
Take time to sit in silence with yourself; become comfortable with your own presence
Keep secrets that people tell you; don't tell the stories that aren't yours to tell (e.g. a person's trauma, an embarrassing thing someone has shared, etc.)
Have a candle that reminds you of him (no altar needed)
Wear jewelry that reminds you of him
Keep a picture of him in your wallet
Have a stuffed animal snake, snail, or hawk (sparrowhawk specifically)/bird of prey
Have imagery of roses, wings, sunrises, or secrets/mysteries (maybe fog?) around
Take a walk under the new moon (if it is safe to do so in your area)
Watch the sunrise; watch the first sunrise of winter
Engage with childhood media or activities
Drink some wine or berry-flavored tea; raise a glass in his honor
Read about mysteries; mysteries in history, unsolved cases of things, mystery novels, etc.
If you have long hair, wear it in a side-braid
Learn when to keep certain things to yourself; practice restraint
Take time to meditate in a dark and quiet environment; take that time to decompress and practice mindfulness
Ground yourself regularly; practice emotional regulation skills
Learn not to judge a book by its cover; be more understanding with people
Study psychology/the human mind
Be kind to children; play with them if offered
Wear blues, purples, muted colors, or colors of the sunrise
Explore new places, especially abandoned places or places that have an air of mystery to them
Sit with a loved one in silence; do your own thing as you are together
Engage in a relaxing activity; read a book, draw, do yoga, etc.
Take a self-care bath/shower, especially with dim light (please be safe about this)
Forgive yourself for past mistakes; practice releasing past regrets
Learn to become comfortable within your own presence
Light a bonfire and sit in front of it under the night sky; focus on the peace of the moment, the warmth of the fire, the silence of the night

This was a requested deity, and it was rather difficult to find information on him, unfortunately. He was a result of cultural fusion between the Greeks and Egyptians, and very little is known about him. He is known as the God of Silence, interestingly due to a cultural misunderstanding on the part of the Greeks, thinking his raised finger meant hushing when the Egyptians symbolized childhood with his raised finger (raised finger as in this: 🤫). Honestly, I had never heard of him before receiving the request. 💀
Nonny, wherever you are, I hope you find this helpful! Take care, friend. 💜

Random tired thought but what if Harpocrates isn't one person but is just the name everyone who it could possibly fit uses when they want to get involved with the Syndicate. Most of the time it's Callahan, Punz, or Purpled, but it has been Dream, Hannah, Eret, Foolish, Ponk, and probably some other people before.
(In a post-prison Syndicate AU, Dream takes it on full-time and everyone else just has to figure something else out if they want to get involved)
Purpled and Punz know that they're both Harpocrates and sometimes work together as the fifth Syndicate member. Callahan knows that someone else is also Harpocrates but doesn't know who it is and doesn't really care. All the various bit Harpocri know subconsciously that other people also use the alias but don't know who specifically.
This is all very confusing for the Syndicate, especially because they don't know that Harpocrates is multiple people. Techno's constantly making conspiracy theories about who it is and everyone else just indulges him.

Harpocrates to Dion about the wyvern tail
Maehiro Kazutoyo wrote the original story and screenplay in Japanese (cited in the credits of FF16 and FF16 Ultimania), so I want to share some of the nuances of the Japanese version to an English speaking audience. Key differences in bold.
Harpocrates' thoughts on the wyvern is slightly different between Japanese and English. In Japanese, he emphasizes that, "Everything up until now has made you bloom into the person you are today," whereas he English, he emphasizes that, "But they do not define it…just as yours do not define you."
I think the Japanese idea is a very common piece a wisdom given to many young people in East Asian culture - the idea that one should embrace everything of one's past, even the sins. All our experiences make us who we are, and in Dion's case, good people can do bad things, and embracing that truth may help Dion be proud of the man he is.
JP->EN
…This is a wild Wyvern Tail
When Wyvern Tails are placed in a harsh environment, it causes it to bloom into a flower of a rare color
It is hard to believe its roots hold a deadly poison when it blooms into such a beautiful flower
Your Highness, you are like this flower
Everything up until now has made you bloom into the person you are today
No matter how much you are tormented by what people do/say, please, I hope you can be proud of yourself
To commemorate our meeting again, I’d like to give Your Highness this…if possible…
EN->JP
Because it is unique to those found in the wild. Something in the harsh environments in which they grow lends them this…striking hue.
Their roots are indistinguishable from those of their hothouse cousins--but once they bloom, the difference is immediately apparent.
In this flower, I see you, Your Highness.
Its roots were the roots of a wyvern tail, with all that implies. But they do not define it…just as yours do not define you.
I want you to have it–that it might remind you of this truth.

Date: ca. A.D. 100-300
Period: Roman Imperial
• From the source: Harpocrates (Horus) in profile to the left, crouching on a lotus flower which springs from between two budded stalks. This newly born sun god is crowned with the lotus diadem so frequently worn by the Hellenistic Isis. He points to his lips with his right index finger and holds a flail in his left hand. reverse: inscription in two lines.
