Hi, I saw this video where people in the comments are claiming it's warm incense water, but isnt that actually not a happy response from the croc? Sorry if you've gotten this before

Link for everyone - yikes. This is a video of someone pouring water from a teapot onto a baby crocodile, with incense visible in the background. The crocodile tightly closes its eyes in response and tries to squirm away.

Yeah, this crocodile is not having a good time. Clenching their eyes shut is sign enough they're not happy, and they're visibly trying to get away, too. There's just no reason to pour water on any animal's head.

Plus, like - it's worse if it's incense water. Reptiles are very sensitive to scented products like incense, and having incense in the background is just making the whole situation even more uncomfortable. Incense that close to a baby crocodile is a recipe for a respiratory infection.

"It's okay it's incense water!"

As with all videos of crocodilians in pet settings, this one gets a NOT CUTE rating immediately, but the misreading of body language and incense so close take this to a HARMFUL rating too.

How God sees you

How does God see you?

For a lot of us, this is a loaded question. One that opens up the door to all kinds of ideas that we have about God.

Based on our past, the way we were raised, or the people in our lives used God – whether for themselves or against us – some of those ideas can be pretty poisonous. 

Which can lead to really harmful ideas about God. From ideas that put us on the “not-good-enough” treadmill. To ideas that make us want to have nothing to do with something that messed up.

All because what’s been dumped on us is a toxic version of something that has nothing to do with who God really is. Which is why those moment when God tells us who He really is are so important.

They’re scattered throughout the Bible, especially the Gospels. But they’re so low-key that they’re easy to miss. Like what we see in today’s Gospel. Where it says,

“At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd.”

When things are weighing on you and me. When we’re upset. When we’re getting it wrong. When we feel abandoned. Like no one cares, not even God

Look at God’s actual response to us, in the person of Jesus.

God isn’t looking down on you and me. God’s not into blaming us, telling us that it’s all our fault. Or walking away, because we’re such a hopeless mess.

God’s actual response? God’s heart is breaking.

Why? Because someone He loves is hurting.

That’s how God sees you.

The AJC (American Jewish Committee) has a very nice one that is easy to navigate! It’s called “translate hate” and I’m reading through it right now.

It’s weird cause I’ve seen like all of these at various times, but didn’t quite put my finger on a lot of them until now. Some of them feel almost normal, it makes me feel kind of ill.

I somehow have this insane pattern of throwing myself to utmost limits - whether it be of the body by disrupting its sleep and food routine, or whether it be of the mind by indulging it in tireless efforts to resolve age old philosophical conflicts or whether it be of the heart by loving or hating someone beyond the norm. As if everytime I hit a limit, the next time I want to hit a far higher limit until it could end being either of the two: either I increase my endurance level or I eventually break out for stretching myself too much outside my own capacities. Link for everyone - yikes is right!

This video is like a crash course in what not to do as a reptile keeper. It manages to both be pretty short and also keep getting much worse. At first, I saw the little tanks just sitting on the floor, and I was like, oh, so this is about bad enclosures.

Then I saw the two large tortoises crammed into a little pen, with pretty bad pyramiding on their shells making it obvious something's wrong with their husbandry.

And then. There's a small alligator in a little pool. And the person filming picks up the alligator and starts spinning around. It's a young alligator but still well big enough to cause real damage with a bite, and of course their jaws aren't taped and all their attempts to communicate discomfort (flailing trying to get away, open-mouthed display, etc.) are being ignored. I really don't like the way the person filming picked up and is treating this alligator, there's just a real disrespect in how they handle animals and lack of concern for handling them in a way that is comfortable and minimizes any fear.

Terrible all-around. I absolutely recommend staying far away from this channel.

Look at me. LOOK. AT ME. It doesn't fucking work that way. Do you think having no hope will somehow create hope? That doesn't make any sense and isn't backed by science. It reminds me of one of my ex-friends who is staunchly Catholic, and has depression as a consequence of capitalism. He would get into lengthy discussions about how he had to "hate himself" into "becoming better." Obviously it wasn't working because all hating himself accomplished was hating himself more.

Stop telling people publicly that this is all hopeless, otherwise I will just have to assume you have stinky pussy energy and tell you that outright. Have a good day!
