Pictures and description below the cut, most of them from this article:
American Chinchilla:
Tumblr media
A rabbit that looks like a chinchilla. Large and soft and round. Supposedly sweet. Apparently there's a whole family of rabbit breeds and the American Chinchilla is the rarest chinchilla breed.
Angora:
Tumblr media
The sheep of rabbits. They make angora wool. There is no picture of them that doesn't look ridiculous.
Blanc de Hotot:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT THEM. THEY HAVE EYELINER. They also have a mini version:
Tumblr media
Britannia Petite:
Tumblr media
TINY. One of the smallest rabbit breeds. That's not a baby, that's a full grown adult. Small and feisty. Supposedly "energetic and high strung".
Dutch:
Tumblr media
One of the most popular rabbit breeds. Also tiny. Despite their name, they are not Dutch. They are English. Tiny and friendly. Not spicy.
English Lop:
Tumblr media
Long.
They have the longest ears of all rabbits. They are also big, weighing in at over 9 pounds.
Flemish Giant:
Tumblr media
HUGE. Some of them can be over 20 pounds. Look at that rack. Those boobies. They were originally bred to be meat rabbits (hence the large size) but they make good pets.
Harlequin:
Tumblr media
Calico rabbits? CALICO RABBITS?
Havana Rabbit:
Tumblr media
OUGH.
They actually originate in Holland, and are called Havanas because of how they resemble Havana cigars. I love animal fancy. You can't make this up. Roll this bunny into a joint and smoke it.
Holland Lop:
Tumblr media
sflslfnsflelfsjglsjs
TINY
EARS.
They weigh less than 4 pounds 🥺
Netherland Dwarf:
Tumblr media
I'm overcome. They are less than 2.5 pounds... they are also timid and shy.

My rabbits in the style of Watership Down 1978 film
14 rabbits in order of when I had them.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The poses are from scenes in the film. drawn freehand and then outlined in fineliner. They are painter with Windsor and Newton watercolours.
The urge to not have a single wrong line or colour outside made me redo this multiple times. I had to force myself to be complacent with defects or it would never have been mostly finished.
Actually did this piece in 30 May 2023. But waited to colour the final rabbit in Black otter. Since I never got her, leaving that space blank.
Posting due to my irrational fear of a fire consuming everything I own. Now I have a digital copy.
Rabbits in order of ownership are: 1. Holly my first rabbit and mixbreed albino doe, 2. Clover a chinchilla mix doe, 3. Arlo a harlequin lop/dwarf cross buck with half lop ear, 4. Hairoo my marten smoke pearl Netherland dwarf doe, 5. Mimi my red eyed white Rex doe. 6. Jack my black Netherland dwarf buck. 7. Caramel my orange Dutch cross doe. 8. Jasmine my Himalayan pattern Netherland dwarf doe. 9. Vibri my black otter lion head cross doe. 10. Amber my yellow Dutch doe. 11. Violet my black broken dwarf lop doe. 12. Juno my black mini rex doe 13. Bramble my Tri Dalmatian mini rex buck. 14. Pepsi my black mini rex doe.
Currently the ones I own are Amber, Juno, Pepsi and Jasmine.
@lepurcinus @themarginalthinker @mekanikaltrifle @robotslenderman finally posting this after so long.

Sometimes I don't even know why I even bother..
Jason is right though, breed doesn't matter on bunnies... except that it means some of them may need more fur care than others... and also most pet rabbits are so mixed its impossible to tell what's even in then.
But people keep asking. And every single time someone's there to judge it by the color alone, no matter how obviously a lionhead it is... Sometimes they'll also call anything a rex if the fur doesn't' feel like sandpaper...all rabbits have soft fur... rex fur is just special... and about half the rabbits I see identified as rex rabbits are really just random normal-furred mixes.
Then lately I've had someone go the other way with the color id... not identifying the spotted bun as an English Spot as they usually do... but call it a holland lop because they have spots sometimes... as do most breeds.
That's like noticing your rabbit has four legs, and identifying it as a horse, because they too have four legs...
Color is the least effective way to identify a rabbit's breed. Especially spots because they're extremely common.
The Dutch is another breed I have issue with because there just so happens to be a different marking that sometimes resembles dutch a lot (vienna marked) but they're not actually related at all... and yet I see people claim a white and black rabbit is OBVIOUSLY dutch or part dutch... even if it has blue eyes, which is a trait vienna marked buns sometimes have and dutch rabbits do not. Sometimes spotted rabbits are called dutch too, which again not related.
As for the harlequin I have never seen a purebred harlequin my whole life... And I've been to rabbit-shows. What I have seen however are LOADS of dwarf rabbits with the harlequin (or Japanese) marking. I've even owned two of them. Both part lionhead, part lop, but they just so happen to have the Japanese marking. (And naturally I named one of them Harley Quinn...the other was named Kikki by her previous owner.)

Also guest starring my current bunnies Jason Todd the English spot Netherland dwarf and Frøya the Alaska Holland Lop.

If jackalopes were real they would DEFINITELY be domesticated and bred into many different coat, body build and horn/antler combinations for showing (sometimes at the expense of their health). Imagine a Harlequin rabbit with miniature moose antlers, or a tiny netherland dwarf with one- or two-point spike elk horns, or a Flemish giant with the biggest pair of Irish Deer antlers you’ve ever seen!
Not to mention wolpertingers—imagine all the possible wing patterns!

I have to rant about the rabbit I’m getting she’s just precious and I’m so excited!
I’m 8 days for my 16th birthday which will be next Friday I believe. After years and years and years of wanting a rabbit I’m finally going to get one!
Long story ahead mostly about rabbits and my excitement for them lol
I’ve got depression it’s been like this for 3 years and latley I’ve been having a bit of a rough patch last past few months things haven’t been ideal and I’ve not felt my best so to cheer me up my mum decided to tell me that after 2 years of asking and several years as a kid before that too but mostly the 2 years of non stop rabbit hyperfixation and begging to get one she told me she’d changed her mind. She’d changed her mind about the whole pet rabbit situation and for my 16 which at the time was 54 days away I was allowed a pet rabbit of my very own. My inner child and my absolute love and obsession with the fluffy critters just made for one heck of a display of excitement. I ran around in and out the kitchen and slipped over on the freshly mopped floor and had to be picked up cause my dog got excited to and just absolutely cuddle to me. Once I was up again and had the dog off of me and not licking the shit outta my face it set in much better. I was allowed a rabbit. For my birthday I was going to have a rabbit. Six year old me would’ve been the most happy kid in the world if theyd heard that and there was no less excitement at the time.
With no chance of getting a rabbit for 2 years of my obsession I just did extreme deep intense research all about them, the different breeds, traits, body language, diets all that and know all the basics and more! I can almost completely accurately based on description say what breed a rabbit is or just by looking at it I can tell. Heating I was finally allowed my so deeply wanted pet I of course began to look at all the options for buying them. My mum wanted to go to pets at home our local pet store as she didn’t trust breeders. She’d looked on gumtree of all places for rabbit breeders which really put her off and I don’t blame it for doing so. We went into pets at home to have a look at suitable enclosures for the rabbit a large indoor hutch, play pen, toys and food the basic necessities. Whislt in there I got head over heals for this adorable male harlequin rabbit that was sat in one of the little enclosures
Tumblr media
He was absolutely gorgeous and I instantly loved him. I asked if I could give him a little pet and the lady was very lovely and allowed me to. The worker was the sweetest person honestly she was so lovely, she asked if we where buying and when we said we’d be getting one at some point and it was going to be an indoors rabbit she suggested pets4home. She told us the rabbits that we saw in there where already a good few months even a year old and wouldn’t be able to adjust easily to an indoor life it would stress them out and us trying to deal with them and that the house would just become an absolute state. She recommended we get a baby so that it can grow up with me and mum loved the idea whilst I just loved the idea of getting a little bunny either way I was very happy. We left pets at home and I stimmed bouncing around excitedly from having petted a rabbit. My phone flew out my back pocket and hit the floor the screen cracked which wasn’t ideal but it’s okay
Back at home I’m looking through the rabbit listings on pets4home. Mum said to keep it small a small rabbit not big so I ignored the giant breeds and stuck to minis and dwarfs. I had a good look and saw lots of absolutely beautiful baby’s, lots of little baby mini lops and tiny netherland dwarfs. My mum also had a look and sent through some of the adds and the rabbits as suggestions but despite all being absolute dreams of rabbits I just didn’t feel a instant connection to them. I’ve had 2 hamsters and instantly felt a connection to them since they where “special” my Syrian hamster was the only grey and white one. My Russian dwarf that I have now was the first ever animal I’d seen with red eyes. So each pet I’ve had has been rather special and had such funny little personality’s of theyre own.
I stumbled upon an ad with this netherland dwarf, mum only wanted a girl as she didn’t want them to spray all over the house. So the ad showed a netherland dwarf mini lop cross breed with white fur and mesmerising red eyes! Pink sclera red pupils and I was absolutely love struck. She was the last of her 5 siblings to have been adopted and I was quick to show my mum. When I showed her she knew I’d found the bun I wanted she knew this is the one and so she messaged the seller.
She was still available and we where sent a couple more photos of her. The seller said that she’s lovely and tame and enjoys to be cuddled and one thing made me fall even harder for this tiny thing. My mum said my sons lonely and is looking for a friend so he’ll love her to bits and the sellers reply melted me, Aw that’s sweet she’s rather lonely too since all her siblings are gone now I’m sure she’ll be very happy. She was lonely to!! And when that was said I instantly just buzzed, we have to get her she’s the one. So my nana bless her heart put the 20 for deposit on her. That night my mum came in and told me that my nana was paying the deposit for her. She was mine all that we had to do was collect her and that was it. This beautiful girl was mine now. That was probably the most amazing thing ever.
I’d spent months planning names, based on species fur colour and gender. There where so many names for so many different catagories and it all depends what this rabbit looked like. So seeing my girl I thought on some names. Some of the most common for white furred animals came to mind, sugar, snow, cotton etc I was going to go with snuffy but it didn’t really fit the best, so my lovely homestuck brain went. Latula. I said it out loud ,what about latula? Saying it out loud I loved it nd was waiting for my mums response would she like it? She didn’t like any of the other names. She loved it. She said it was such a pretty name so sweet and fitting.
Latula is coming home In 8 days now and I’m so excited it’s really settling in each day more and more that I’m going to have my dream pet of my own to love and care for, no more dreaming no more wishing no more begging it’s happening and with the most amazing rabbit ever. I’m very excited

Chapter 4 - Can This Day Get Any Worse? 4.1. It's Not Easy Being A Bunny
The school’s cafeteria is one of the main areas where all students can meet with each other without any boundaries. The area was designed to be able to serve all kinds of animals regardless of their species and sizes. The main area was dissected into three larger levels, which looked like platforms. They were bordered by wooden walls planted with succulents and tiny shrubs to create a greener atmosphere. The roof was made out of glass to ensure that natural light can always get inside. In the four corners and the middle of the cafeteria, there were large oak trees planted with decks on multiple branches. This served as the dining area for smaller animals, such as mice, squirrels or songbirds. The tree was specially developed so its leaves would rarely fall, in order to avoid any accidents.
The cafeteria was packed for dinner, as usual. Students lined up at the kitchen ladies, who served them the food. The meals were specially chosen and prepared to satisfy both herbivore and carnivore students. Each day, there were separate meals for carnivores and herbivores. Today, carnivores were given steamed soy beans, egg salad, black bean pastries and milk, while herbivores were given vegetables boiled in soy milk, fruit parfaits and orange juice. Of course, if a carnivore student preferred something from the herbivore menu, they could change their meals and vice versa.
In the mass of animals, there was a small Netherlands dwarf rabbit girl. Her name was Haru. Her fur was pure white with no marks or any other colors. Her eyes were pitch black. One could easily get lost in them, wondering what thoughts were being kept secret behind them. She was quite short even for her species so she wore shoes with thicker soles to add to her height. As she walked along the line, her uniform was flowing in the air.
Today’s dinner is my favorite, I just can’t wait to eat it!” she thought. “Now I just need to find a place to sit.”
She paced the area for free seats and found three tables with free seats. First, she walked up to a female mongoose student.
“I’m sorry, may I sit here?” Haru asked.
“Umm… Sorry, but I’m waiting for my friend” the mongoose replied.
Next, Haru walked up to a feline student, who didn’t even pay much attention to her. It seemed like she recognized her and since the situation was too awkward for her, she just went back to eating without saying anything.
Haru was a bit annoyed, but she still had one option, a group of rabbits.
“Hey, may I sit with you, please?” Haru asked them.
But they were so busy chatting they didn’t even hear her question. Haru’s ears drooped but she wasn’t the type of girl to get upset over a situation like this. She walked outside and sat down on the stairs to enjoy her meal.
“Oh well, I’m sitting alone behind the building but at least the food is delicious” she thought as she was eating her meal in silence. She suddenly heard another student calling for her. It was her roommate, Sally.
“Haru! There you are.”
“Oh, hey, Sally. Are you heading back to the dorm?”
“Well… umm… yeah. Why are you eating your food alone in this place? Don’t you think it’s too dangerous for a small herbivore like you to be alone after the incident?”
“Well… It’s better than eating alone in the cafeteria. Anyway, if you’re so worried about me, why don’t we have dinner together?”
“Oh… Sorry, I can’t. I can’t be seen together with you. Everyone in the school knows what you did.”
“Well, that figures” Haru sighed. “Everyone’s been avoiding eye contact with me for two days now…”
“Mizuchi is really mad about it. Take it from your roommate, okay? Try to act less resilient.”
And with that, Sally walked off without saying goodbye, leaving Haru by herself. Haru lost herself in her thoughts…
“Is it just me? When an animal is as small as I am, their body will sometimes shake uncontrollably from the pressure of their own heartbeat. If I were to just follow my instincts, I would just keel over and never get back up.”
Haru sighed. For the first time, she felt lonely. Yet she was determined to not allow it to get to her and stand up from this situation even stronger. She finished her meal and went to the main building. She still had some homework to do for tomorrow and wanted to finish it in the library. As she was going up the spiral stairs for small animals, a walnut shell fell down in front of her. And then a couple others followed, but this time, they landed straight on her head.
“What the…”
“Oops, my bad! My hand slipped” said a high-pitched voice.
“Did you get hurt?” asked another one.
“Oh, you’re probably fine, aren’t you? No doubt some boy will come running to save you!” a third added.
“Oh, don’t worry, I’m fine” Haru replied. “Nothing you do can hurt me.”
Haru continued her walk up the stairs, trying to ignore the laughs of the other three girls, but she suddenly came face to face with them. It was Mizuchi and her two allies, a black cat and a raccoon. Mizuchi was a harlequin rabbit and a pretty popular student in Cherryton. If anyone, she could completely destroy someone’s reputation with a gossip in just a few days’ time.
“I guess all of your friends are ignoring you…” she said. “And yet, you’re still holding out quite well. But you do understand your situation don’t you? No one wants to deal with you” she said with the most satisfied smile on her face.
Haru didn’t mind the harsh words Mizuchi threw at her just now. She picked up one of the walnut shells and threw it at her.
“Yeah, yeah. I don’t have time to deal with you or your little friends so bye” Haru said while passing the others without even looking at them.
“Hey! I’m not finished with you!” Mizuchi yelled.
“If you’ve got enough time to spread rumors about me, you surely have enough time to make up with your boyfriend.”
“You have no right to say that! You’re the one who split us up in the first place!”
“I’m sorry, but he’s the one who kissed me. I don’t know what you were told and I don’t really care either” Haru said while turning around with a smug look on her face. “Still, a buck who’d get infatuated over a little kiss isn’t worth much if you ask me.”
And that was it. Right then and there, Mizuchi was destroyed and she knew it. The frustration caused her two-toned face to turn completely red. She picked up the janitor’s water bucket and threw the water at Haru, who fell to the ground.
“Listen well. We were a harlequin rabbit couple. Harlequin rabbits are an endangered species. We’re on a completely different league with obvious pedigree. And yet you, a plebian dwarf rabbit, went and destroyed that couple! How dare you! We’re going to spread rumors that you’re messing with other male students as well.”
Haru was not surprised by Mizuchi’s reaction but she was still a bit upset. Her clothes and fur were dripping wet and the other three were laughing at her.
“Let’s go girls” Mizuchi said. “You should really pick yourself up from the floor, Haru. Or don’t. It suits you anyway.”
And with that, the terrible trio was finally gone. Their footsteps echoed in the corridor for a few moments but with each passing second, they became quieter. Haru stood up and looked at herself. Her clothes were dripping wet. Fortunately, the water didn’t get into her bag, so at least her schoolwork was safe. She looked for the nearest restroom and walked inside. She went inside one of the stalls, closed the door and hung her dress on the door. She sat on top of the toilet seats and started the rest of her homework.
“Well, it’s not the library but at least no one should bother me here” she thought.
It didn’t take Haru to finish her school work. She completed an essay and two multiple choice exercises and was ready to go. She reached out for her uniform, which was almost completely dry. She got dressed, exited the stall and washed her hands.
“I don’t want to go back to the dorm yet… I’ll just spend some time around the back of the gym” she thought.
She looked in the mirror and took a good look at herself.
“When males see this face, they start to approach me thinking »I want to help her« or »I want to protect her«… But when they realize that I’m different from their fantasies, they use me and eventually leave. Right… The winners of this world are the animals who live by their feral instincts. I was destined to be a loser. I lived a life of being used as fodder for other animals.”
It was already late when Haru exited the main building. It was really quiet all over the school and only a few lights were on in the dorms. A thin layer of mist was resting lightly on the ground, deterring from Haru’s way as she took her steps towards the gym. It almost felt to her like even the mist didn’t want to touch her anymore. She reached the gym and headed towards the fountain in front of it.
Haru was always mesmerized by the dancing water. She didn’t know why, but she enjoyed looking at it for hours, enjoying the sight of the little drops being painted into colorful gems by the surroundings or silver tears by the moonlight. It was a place where she could calm herself down in all cases – exams, arguments, family life… But the peace and harmony didn’t feel the same this time. She felt as if someone was watching her. She heard a rustle from the gym’s entrance.
“Someone’s here. But who could it be? Do they know who I am? Do they want to hurt me? Or… can it be the one who killed that alpaca?”
She heard the rustle once again… The other one moved closer to her… Tears started to flow from Haru’s eyes. Her legs were trembling. She wanted to run but her legs wouldn’t move – they were heavy as stones.
“I’ll let you have me… But please… Just once in my pathetic life…Give me a reason to run away in fear… Give me a reason to cry in fear… Give me a reason to value my life…”
With all these thoughts in her head, she started running towards the arches. She couldn’t even make two steps though when she could feel her body being grabbed by large hands with sharp claws… She was trapped. And yet, she felt completely calm.
“Could you understand what valuing your life is?” she thought. “He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t have to. I can feel that his desires resonate with mine. I’m just glad they are not here to see me like this…”

I know you have Netherland Dwarfs, do you have a problem with them being mean? We always did with our Polish. What breeds would you most like to get, and which breed(s) will you never get?
Not so much mean as just grumpy most of the time, really. Like, they'll get defensive when you try to take them out of their cage, but once they're out most of mine are pretty chill. The most problems I have is flipping them over for vet checks, they're a bit more finnicky than other breeds tend to be. I think little breeds are just Like That lmao.
I would love to have a Dwarf Papillion, Harlequin, or English Spot because their patterns are beautiful! If I did get one, it would be purely as a pet (which is totally fine by me) because I don't have the patients to show a marked breed. Honestly if I ever have a spare spot for another rabbit and am not looking at another rabbit at the time, it'll probably be one of those.
I would absolutely love to have a Lionhead or Jersey Wooley, but I don't have time to properly care for them and maintain their fur. A big breed like a Flemish Giant or French Lop would also be fun to have as a pet, but I don't have nearly enough room for them. I don't have a particular breed I wouldn't get, but there are some that I wouldn't be able to properly care for (as of right now) that I can't get.

Tips On Simply how To Decide Your Rabbits Breed
Tumblr media
I simply needed to have my outside dwarf Rex rabbit put to sleep this afternoon after suddenly getting very sick and I couldn’t find a vet that knew about rabbits before she received worse. I’ve had her for six years and once I obtained her from some folks they informed me that she was very old, about 8-10 is what they said. She was one of the best pet bunnies I even have ever had and the only one I’ve had that may “talk” to me, by making a lot of noises each time I held and cuddled her. They are highly meat and fur productive and really suitable for business farming.
Then organize their water, hay feeder, and litter field inside the house.
To be taught extra about rabbit care, visit House Rabbit Society at rabbit.org.
She would nestle within the dust surrounded by a miniature forrest of oregano leaves.
Weighing in at solely 2.5 lbs, the Netherland Dwarf is doubtless one of the smallest rabbit breeds. With a brachycephalic head, short ears, and large eyes, there’s no dispute about their cuteness. The Netherland Dwarf may be skittish, however, so they’re not beneficial for young children. But with the best household, this sweet little bunny will come out of their shell.
Blanc De Hotot Rabbit
Rabbits want a way to get off the hard wire of the cage every so often, in any other case they may develop sore hocks. They promote resting boards on the pet provide shops, or they are typically included with the cage. You can also use an old scrap of carpet or a bit of toweling.
How much does a pet bunny cost?
If you decide to buy a bunny at a pet store, you could spend up to $40 for an average rabbit. Show rabbits and rare breeds can cost over $100. The shelter or pet store should inform you whether your new bunny has been spayed or neutered.
This breed of rabbits has quick fur and is a superb beginner-friendly rabbit. They look attractive for his or her purple coat and don’t require much grooming because of the brief length of their hairs. These rabbits are small in measurement and perfect as indoor pets. So I guess as a beginner pet rabbit owner, you won't wish to adopt dwarf rabbits. Not adopting dwarf rabbit breeds will forestall you from the bills of visiting a veterinary a number of times a year. This is undoubtedly one of the in style rabbit breeds on the planet.
Litter
You should all the time meet a rabbit in person a quantity of instances and spend time holding and interacting with it earlier than deciding to adopt it. Even if a breed is thought for having a friendly temperament, a person rabbit could display behavioral points depending on its historical past. For instance, a rabbit that's only about a foot long should not want a cage more than two toes in size. A rabbit that is three feet long might have a really massive cage, which can be exhausting to slot in a smaller space.
What is the smartest bunny breed?
Popular opinion does claim that some breeds are smarter than others, though. For example, Mother Nature Network describes the Belgian Hare as the smartest domesticated rabbit. The Harlequin Rabbit is also frequently described as among the most intelligent lagomorphs.
There are literally 4 different varieties of wool found on various kinds of Angoras. A lot of rabbit owners with Angora coats choose to keep their coats cut brief for simpler care. Angora fur shouldn't be clipped right up to the skin because the coat provides natural safety in opposition to warmth, chilly, and something that will injure the pores and skin. Be sure to go away a minimal of 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length to the coat. Rabbits, like cats will groom themselves, nonetheless in doing so they are susceptible to hair balls.
The Japanese rabbit is orange or fawn and either black, blue, chocolate, or lilac. The Magpie is white and both black, blue, chocolate, or lilac and each varieties are around ten pounds of beautiful beauty. This provides the rabbit a safe place from which to see, hear and scent all that is happening. Housing a rabbit in a child’s room or an extra bedroom, the place there are sporadic bursts of exercise, may actually delay the rabbit’s adjustment to normal household life. [newline]Finding a skilled rabbit veterinarian could be tough.

vincedakota replied to your post “i am excellent and naming animals and you should ask me what your...”
i cant send asks and this is completely unrelated but if you want to crunch an hour or two. whats your opinion of Every Arba Breed
you asked for it get ready for some Unpopular Onions
american: have doofy faces but i like em a lot.  tried to get into whites several years ago but breeders kept ghosting me :(  not as rare as ppl think but nobody likes whites it’s only blues at shows.
american chinchilla:  bruh why do we have like three whole chinchilla breeds i don’t like chins that much in general why do we need three whole breeds of just chinchilla
american fuzzy lop:  all the worst parts of lionheads and holland lops in one little package
american sable:  never seen one in real life but i want to touch
argente brun:  don’t understand why the argentes aren’t more popular, look at ‘em.  they’re cool as heck.  give me one.
belgian hare:  do you love suffering?  get a hare
beveren:  i think they’re ugly sorry.  suddenly got rly popular and idk why.  remind me of basset hounds but with blue eyes.
blanc de hotot:  absolute showstoppers.  the supermodel of rabbits.  why can’t i have any someone please give me a hotot i will pay lots of money
britannia petite:  genuinely make me uncomfortable to look at.  the big eyes and tiny body...they are gremlins and i do not like them
californian:  boring but a good meat rabbit.  what can i say they have a niche and are good at it
cavies:  are not rabbits and make bad noises
champagne d’argent:  the only breed i ever seen enter fur shows here lol.  i wanna work with them to make silvery every other breed :)
checkered giant:  Big Angery.  only breed i’ve consistently been told not to ask to pet.
cinnamon:  really cool lookin rabbits but every feral in issaquah looks just like ‘em so either a cin breeder had an oopsie or they aren’t that rare
creme d’argent:  i’ve only seen ONE irl and it was like buttered toast.  i love them.  someone please breed them.
dutch:  the only rabbit allowed to be visibly VM (hotots are vm too but you can’t really tell.)  really cute little meat bricks.  the holstein of rabbits, in that when i think of a generic rabbit i think of a dutch.
dwarf hotot:  more popular than their commercial sized cousins and honestly it’s a RIGHT SHAME.
english angora:  that is a mop.  apparently betty chu is driving people out of the breed cos hers are all too good :’)  the one we have is bonkers and i don’t like him.
english lop:  hardly should be able to call themselves lops.  sure they got big ears (which i don’t like) but to me a lop should have a brick face and they don’t and it makes me sad.
english spot:  suuuper attractive animals, esp the goldens.  if i hated myself enough to get into a running breed i would go for english i think.
flemish giant:  BIG.  FRICKIN.  EARS.  my husband’s fav breed.  he likes the red ones.  i have three growing out in my yard rn and they’re so cute.
florida white:  for some reason they are becoming really popular with homesteaders?  but i have never seen one in real life.  really just kind of boring but apparently good for meats.
french angora:  i don’t like anything i have to groom
french lop:  BIG.  FLOPPY.  EARS.  BIG.  POTATO.  FACE.  truly the epitome of a lop.  can’t wait til i get mine.
giant angora:  ah yes let’s make MORE wool to groom no thanks
giant chinchilla:  this is a chin just Big.  boring, next
harlequin:  fan favourite of my fur clients.  if you hate yourself, show these.  ofc i’m a sucker for calico things so i have a bunch but do you see me putting them on a show table?  no.
havana:  very good little dudes.  husband likes the black ones.  i can only justify one or two itty bitty breeds so i don’t have any.
himalayan:  the stupidest looking animal i have ever laid eyes on and i love them so much.  they spark immense joy.  also very very sweet if my two are anything to go by.
holland lop:  oversaturated in both pet and show circles.  there’s just so many.  the holland rings take HOURS to get through at shows.  they are very cute but so far in general their personalities leave something to be desired.
jersey wooly:  i hear they’re little demons but other than that i don’t know much about em
lilac:  it’s a rabbit, but purple!  never seen one in person.
lionhead:  literally every byb pet rabbit is mixed with a lionhead.  my first rabbit was a lionhead and he’s evil so there’s that.
mini lop:  my first breeding rabbits were mini lops and they have a special place in my heart.  but i went with french over minis cos Big Chungus.
mini rex:  take a rex and make it small and able to produce peanuts.  5/10 not enough fur
mini satin:  i have only ever handled one and it was enough for me!  awful awful little creatures but very nice fur.
netherland dwarf:  disgOSTINgly cute but oversaturated and also dwarfs. sorry.
new zealand:  yep that’s a rabbit
palomino:  it’s a rabbit but YELLOW.  apparently the breed joel salatin breeds but his are all vm-y and he THROWS AWAY THE FURS i hate it.  idk they’re cute i guess.
polish:  it’s small alright
rex:  supermodel of rabbits but wow is showing them the worst.  rex people think they’re better than everyone else and it’s very tiring.  so good for touching though.  pelts sell for good prices.
rhinelander:  very good 10/10 if they weren’t hard to find i’d consider them as well if i were gonna go for a runner
satin:  considered getting into them but decided not to.  the white ones look like they peed on themselves :(
satin angora: we have one and i have no complaints except that it makes wool
silver: someone apparently breeds them around here and it’s neat that chestnut is a colour they come in considering every other silver breed is like NO AGOUTI ONLY SELF
silver fox:  this is the rabbit literally every homesteader has now and i don’t get it.  they’re pretty and big but what a waste of good pelts by raising them for meat only.  anyway they only come in one official colour (with the three general self colours in COD) so i find them boring otherwise.  i can’t tell ours apart at all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
silver martin:  never seen one in person but they’re pretty.  silver fox ppl hate them cos they “don’t even have a real silvering gene.  they’re just chinchilla otters.”
standard chinchilla:  WHY DO WE HAVE THREE OF THESE
tan:  smaller than anticipated, but very pretty.  why don’t more breeds have this colour.  what even IS this colour.  is it related to otter?  IS it otter just without white?  i’m intrigued
thrianta:  photos really do not do that colour justice.  kinda boring cos they only come in red but boy is it RED.
velveteen lop:  technically still in COD but my opinion is the same as english lop.  i don’t like their faces or the ears, sorry.

top 5 rabbit breeds
OMG THIS IS SO MY BRAND LOL I LOVE YOU
1. Rex
LISTEN TO ME: this breed is nicknamed the Velveteen Rabbit and it is the total truth. The softest fur you will ever touch in your life. Rex rabbits have an undercoat and an overcoat that are the same length and stick straight up, which is what makes for that incredibly soft coat. Fun fact: their fur is actually curly, but you can only really tell if you wet your hands and run it down their body (don’t get a rabbit fully wet!) or look at their whiskers.
The first rabbit I ever brought home was a Rex I called Cinnabuns and he was the best guy I’ve ever had the pleasure of loving. I’m including a picture of him here, but both of my girls are also miniatures of the same breed.
Tumblr media
2. Lionheads
YOU WANT A FUZZY RABBIT? The fluffiest, most absurd looking breed of rabbit. They are also super soft, but their fur feels thinner. I can’t speak much of their disposition, but they’re adorable to look at.
Tumblr media
3. Holland Lops
Floppy ears? Check. Sassy bunny attitude? Double check. Actual potato shape? You betcha. A friend of mine has a Holland Lop that just radiates displeasure at all times and it’s the funniest thing ever.
Tumblr media
4. Flemish Giants
This is one of those rabbits you’ll look and just think yep, that’s a rabbit. The ones I’ve worked with on the farm have been this breed mixed with something else, but if I had to classify them to one I’d choose Giant simply for their size. Every one I’ve worked with has been laidback, great mothers, and wonderful with children. They’ll still loudly tell you their opinion, though.
The first litter I ever worked with were this: six females and two males born on Good Friday. We called the largest of them Hulk and she still spends most of the year on the farm. She’s called Mara, now, and she’ll be 5 this Easter.

5. Cappuccino, who cannot be classified
I’ve had this rabbit for YEARS and I still couldn’t tell you what breed she is beyond feisty. She’s about three pounds of fury that has stood her ground with my cats, kept me in line, and yet manages to be the sweetest little girl when I need a rabbit visitor for rainy day birthday party entertainment. She came to the farm from an ill-fated pet story purchase some guests had made and I’ve kept her close to me ever since - spring, summer, and fall on the farm, then winters spent at my house.
She once mated with two different males (that was an accident) then gave birth to two bunnies from each of them, which is INSANE because I can’t fathom how she fit four bunnies in her tiny little frame. She was a great mother and my goddaughter’s pet rabbit is one of her children.
Tumblr media
Honorable mentions: English Lops, Netherland Dwarfs, Harlequins, Brush Rabbits, ALL RABBITS, and my two little idiots which are Miniature Rex.

The Jamora was created with the goal of producing a friendly rabbit which combines an angora-like wool texture with the Japanese color and Japanese markings. These were bred out of the races Japanese, Angora and Hermelin (a breed similar to the Netherland Dwarf).
The veterinarian Bernhard Thimm first crossed angora and ermine, creating a white, long-haired rabbit with a weight of only 4.5 pounds at the age of 5 months (breeding maturity). He called this new breed Ameline. This intermediate breed now had to be kept as a purebred for another two years and stabelized. The second goal was much more difficult. The new breed should be light (4.5 pounds) and Japanese patterned (yellow-black striped). The coat should be a dense normal hair. The number of breeding animals had to be greatly increased, to find the new intermediate breed with the desired characteristics. The second race was named Jameline. After a total of 2 years and 4 generations, the race of Jameline was genetically stabilized.
In 1993, the Jamora rabbit was then submitted as a new breed rabbit in the Standard of the ZDK. For the breed to be accepted at least 6 breeders with at least 20 exhibited animals had to be achieved.
The body shape is stocky, cylindrical, well muscled, front and back the same width, well rounded behind, the back line evenly. The head is broad and strong
The coat is long, at least 5 to 6 cm all over. Head, ears and legs are normal long, well haired. The undercoat is dense, the angora-like finish is fine and not prone to felting. The ideal is a medium-fine, silky soft, regular and short wavy wool hair with a silky shine.
The harlequin-colored Jamora rabbit is bicolor: black and yellow. Despite the longhair, the two colors should still be able to be separated from each other in stripes or color fields. Due to the angora-like hair growth, the contrasting color fields typical for the Japanese pattern are now blurred in the typical color-bordering color boundaries. This gives a distinctive color effect, which together with the completely irregular distribution of stripes and color patterns has led to the naming of "harlequin-colored". The yellow color may vary in intensity, but a rich color is preferable. The color of the belly is slightly duller. The eyes are brown.
