When I saw Dark, I definitely expected characters like Hannah and Ulrich to be hated. I wasn't surprised when I saw comments disliking them on different websites, but I just didn't expect to see people celebrating that Hannah was murdered by her own child while her younger child was sleeping in the same room.
People can enjoy any moment they want while watching a show or movie, but I just don't get it. Hannah gets an amount of hate that no other character in the show gets, and it feels like a large part of the show's viewers ignore to even trying to understand her.
jonas literally says in the first episode:
“My father said good and evil are a question of perspective.”
I'm not saying her character didn't do bad things, but it's exhausting how that's the only thing people see about her and it's just like they're trying to erase the good she did or all the positive things she meant in certain characters' lives.
I was even more shocked to see how few comments put Hannah on the same level as Helene Albers. I just don't understand how anyone could think that Hannah is somehow comparable to an abusive parent.
Hannah with her kids:
When she saw her boy struggling to cope with his dad's dead, she supported her child and made sure he got the professional help he needed.
And when Jonas came back to town, she made sure he got his medications and therapy sessions with Peter.
Hannah was so worried when Jonas tells her he had a fight at the end of the first season.
In the same scene, he just wanted to comfort his mother by saying, "Don't worry, Mom. Everything will be fine, Mom." when he actually believed that he could save Mikkel and thus end his own existence.
As the months passed since her son's disappearance, Hannah was so devastated that she almost took her own life.
She didn't, because Stranger Jonas appeared.
Stranger Jonas has returned after years of living in the apocalypse, and he doesn't know what else to do when his plan fails. The only thing he can think of is to go to his mom and tell her the truth.
After the time young Jonas spent traveling with Claudia, the first thing he does when he finally returns home is look for his mom.
It was a long time before Hannah saw her son again.
But she went to see him immediately when a random old woman told her that she knew where her son was and that he needed her.
Hannah was heartbroken when she saw what had happened to her boy. In that moment she apologized, recognized her mistakes, and told him that she was there for him.
Young Adam looked scary, but Hannah loved him anyway, and baby Silja trusted him when he said, "I want to show you a secret. But we'll let your mom rest, okay?"
Hannah died when Silja was very young and she probably didn't remember much about her mom, but she still named her firstborn Hanno after her.
and that's just to mention some of the things I could remember about Hannah's relationship with her kids.
The last dialogue of the whole show:
"I always thought "Jonas" was a good name."
Hannah was a good mom and her kids absolutely loved her. It bothers me that some people want to take that away from her because they don’t like her.
It's really hard for me to understand how some viewers can watch a show like Dark and decide that they can see all the million gray areas that all these characters had, but with one particular character they reduce everything to black and white.

Me: Hannah is a wonderfully complex and haunted character and I will defend her

Being a Dark fan is thinking you've pretty much figured out all the fucked family connections, only to wake up in the middle of the night four year later with the sudden realization that Hannah's grandchildren married each other.

fully believe that hannah was in love with katharina but it manifested in her wanting to devour/become katharina and thats why hannah was forever chasing her husband and (subconsciously) her son

this is kind of roundabout and random but i find it interesting how hannah's obsession with ulrich informs her entire life because, unbeknownst to her, her husband michael is also ulrich's son, which makes her son jonas also ulrich's grandson - arguably the person with whom she has the best and most tragic relationship with
but then again since time travel fucks up winden's family trees so much, it actually goes jonas -> the unknown -> tronte -> ulrich, so does that mean hannah's obsession with ulrich is actually a reflection of her relationship with jonas? where does one end and the other begin?
jonas'/ulrich's line is a time anomaly though so they shouldn't actually exist whereas hannah exists outside of the time loop so does this quantum event actually enable hannah to birth her own trauma that ends up consuming her entire life? i'm not sure where this is going but it's an interesting meditation on the concept of free will.
hannah is both a victim of the loop since her story is literally hijacked but also doesn't make the best choices either when confronted with this very-bad-not-good situation
but when freed from the confines of this exceptionally fucked up physics experiment she actually manages to have a reasonably content life with a husband and friends?

It was unexpected for me that Claudia, Jonas, Noah and Elisabeth ended up being the post-apocalypse group, but the four of them fit so well together.
They don't really had screentime together, but I can't stop thinking about the apocalypse family and how much they can relate to each other.
Each one of them lost their naivety when they discovered time travel and learned a little more about the reality of their world, but they lost their innocence when they experienced the reality of their dads death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Each member of the group carries the guilt for the death of their dads.
Noah literally killed his dad, influenced by sic mundus.
Claudia tried to prevent her dad's death and accidentally caused it.
Jonas was led to believe that he could prevent his dad's suicide when in fact he was the trigger.
Elisabeth was not to blame for her dad dying, but she probably felt guilty that he died trying to protect her.
They were completely broken, and the person who came to comfort them and give them hope was a member of the apocalypse family.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Bartosz died, Noah told his younger self that he knew how it felt and that the pain of what he had done would pass. Noah knew that wasn't true. It would be a pain he would never forget. Since he was the one who had defined the irony of his dad's fate, it had only become more painful.
Claudia met Jonas for the first time after what happened with Egon, and she realized that she couldn't change things. Jonas appearead and let her know that they could change things. This happened after Jonas had spent a year traveling with an older version of Claudia.
Jonas met Claudia for the first time when he realized that he wasn't there to stop his dad and that his attempt to save him had failed again. At that moment, Claudia came and told Jonas that he could save them all. So Jonas goes to spend a year with Claudia learning about time travel.
After Peter dies, Elisabeth only knows of a place somewhere in the woods where Noah stays, and Noah only knows that he would protect her. In the cave, they find the passage, and Noah tells Elisabeth about paradise. Their connection gave them hope. Even when Noah felt hopeless himself, he only wanted to give Elisabeth hope.
They just tried to give them some comfort. In one of their darkest moments, they were there for each other and tried to never give up hope.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also everything that losing their moms represented for them.
Silja died when Noah was very young and apparently Bartosz became distant.
When Doris left, Egon started to drink. It was probably at that moment that his relationship with Claudia became colder.
Their relationships with their dads deteriorated when they lost their moms. A disagreement resulted in the death of their dads. Noah and Claudia eventually saw their dads again, but it was a younger version of their dads who didn't yet recognize that version of them as their kid.
I think it is similar with Elisabeth and Jonas.
The first thing Jonas did when he got home was look for his mom, and he couldn't find Hannah. He probably thought he couldn't save his mom just like he couldn't save his dad.
Peter and Elisabeth were still trying to find Franziska and Charlotte, and after months she just thought they were dead. When her father died, I don't think there was any hope of seeing her mother again.
For years, Jonas and Elisabeth probably assumed that their moms had died in the apocalypse. It was unexpected the way they were reunited with their moms, and the revelations that came from it.
This group is so interesting to me because they experienced many years of friendship and then all that was left was betrayal. Although I will never forget all those years of friendship that I never saw.

I'm currently rewatching Dark and I don't know who I hate the most, Ulrich or Hannah. They're so insufferable, specially Ulrich. I'm like "my man if you're going to kill a kid at least have the decency of running away, don't just stand there. GO!!"
Should it be concerning that I hate them more than the serial child murderers?
Also for some reason I never remember Noah's name so I just call him "Padre Sarado" wich basically means Hot Priest.
