everyone looks at this yandere bitch who asked Rainfleck to help him punish Sleekear, who's actually very close with Rainfleck.
Rainfleck who was victim to Longstar punishment twice before, once with his mate being forced to do it.
Also to add to the creepiness, he took Rainfleck and Dreamnoise's remaining kit as his apprentice. This ass is forcing Rainfleck to only be close to him, and puts himself as an important figure in his child's life. It's all made even worse knowing in lore that Rainfleck and Dreamnoise became mates after Dreamnoise had became deputee and Longstar pushed for her to go with Rainfleck since they seemed interested in each other. It's like Longstar is trying to make himself be a very important person in Rainfleck's life.

Bunch more oc refs! Some of this is outdated (Swanpaw and Coyotepaw are gfs, Stonepaw hates Halfpaw because Half is evil, Tigerfang is Tigerstar and her homophobia was internalized, Lakelight has a wife now, Russetfern has a husband and is mediator now)

In my efforts to help people appreciate Orrin more, I want to talk about ~choice and loss~ in his story and how those make him an outlier to the rest of the central cast. And I will be starting with choice because his story also starts with choice, or rather, the lack thereof.
The other main leaders of the force against Galbatorix choose their involvement in the war. Eragon, though he didn’t choose to be a Rider, chose to join the war (as did Saphira). Nasuada chose to accept the council nomination to replace Ajihad as leader of the Varden. Arya chose, despite opposition from her mother, the queen, to become an ambassador to the Varden. Orik chose to campaign to become king instead of backing another dwarf. Roran chose to involve himself in the war instead of hiding safely in Surda. Nar Garzhvog and Grimrr Halfpaw lead their races to join the war of their own volition.
The leaders within the army by and large had a choice in their positions of power and in how much that would involve them in the war, with the sole exception of King Orrin, who inherited his crown. Which is of particular importance when it comes to him because, from what we see of Orrin, he almost certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be king if he’d had a choice in how to lead his own life. He has both passion and skill as a scientist and he’s the happiest we ever see him while in his lab.
This inherited position also strips him of the choice to fight in the war or not, which is immensely important. He is forced to fight, risking his life, and forced to lead, responsible for the lives of his people. And given the very reasonable fears he expresses about the war leading to their unilateral slaughter, he likely would have made a different choice in those matters too, if he could have.
And like I pointed out, this is only true of King Orrin. The way he is involved with and regards the war is fundamentally different from the rest of the main cast on the Varden’s side. Inheritance is the titular theme of these books, and Orrin’s inheritance is a cage, which, during the war, looks indistinguishable from a death trap to him. It’s only by chance that it wasn’t.
(Wow, I wonder why it’s a recurring issue that Orrin feels that he’s been wronged when other leaders of the Varden ignore his thoughts and opinions and make choices that he should have had a say in without him hmm...)
When it comes to the war, the fighting Orrin experiences can only be accurately compared to what we see Roran experience, which is exceptionally grueling and detrimental. He similarly has no inordinate physical or magical abilities, and as opposed to Nasuada who pulls back after the Trial of the Long Knives, he continues to fight in every battle. Inarguably this would take a toll, which it does, and not just on him.
By merit of the tone of the series, we don’t see too many companions of the main characters die (excluding parental figures bc paolini loves to kill them off). They all have friends that stay with them through the end. But then, to still illustrate the death inherent to war without pushing the story to a much sadder, heavier place, people die off screen and are then mentioned in passing by background characters.
Which brings us around to loss, and how Orrin experiences it in a far less forgiving way than the other characters. And by forgiving, I mean that when the main cast lose someone, the narrative gives them room to heal to some degree instead of forging ahead and crushing them. But as a minor character, the story has no incentive to let Orrin recover. Whether or not Orrin gets to process the losses he suffers, we don’t see enough of him to get emotional satisfaction from a recovery if he does or to be pulled along with his despair if he doesn’t. So Orrin lands in a perfect place to be crushed by the loss of war while in the shadows of the narrative without weighing down the story or the mood of the readers.
And that’s exactly what happens. Orrin does lose people. One of my favorite scenes with him, which is so evocative, is after the first battle against the laughing dead. We only see the aftermath as Eragon comes in and Orrin clings to composure as he finishes off the last enemy of a horrifying and grotesque battle. He returns to report to Nasuada while in shock and says, “‘Of my cavalry, few remain: fifty, seventy. Many of them were my friends.’” (The whole scene of him is fantastic and his reaction to the first laughing dead is gripping, please consider going back and rereading the whole thing, it’s towards the end of the chapter ‘Fire in the Sky’ in Brisingr.)
The other significant scene to note is in the beginning of Inheritance (‘The Price of Power’) where Orrin demands Nasuada break the pact with the Urgals because the people of the Empire refuse to surrender or join them because of the alliance. He then admits he’d just watched a friend he grew up with die when he was speared with a pitchfork by a man who refused to yield because of the Urgals. It’s also important that, in this scene, Nasuada asks Orrin about an experiment he planned to do and he says, “‘I was too tired to assay it. I went to sleep instead.’”
By this point, Orrin has now lost many, if not all of his closest friends. We don’t see Orrin interact with anyone in a familiar, companionable way, and the only mention of anyone like that to him is when he says that they died beside him. And the books make a point of showing how isolating power and authority can be, and how important loved ones are to mitigating that. Orrin no longer has that support. Alongside that, he’s also lost his energy for science, the one part of his life he chose for himself and genuinely made him happy.
I want to point out that any drunkenness or issue with alcoholism is never mentioned before this. Never even foreshadowed. For all that we can see, it develops in its entirety after this point.
And given all of this, I think that then makes a lot of sense. From Orrin’s perspective, he doesn’t have the ability to choose the course of his own life, and to continue on with the course forced upon him means he will continue to suffer loss after loss of what he loves. All this topped with the fear that Galbatorix will kill every last one of them and all that will have been for nothing. Especially when interpreting that he’s now lost everyone he felt he could confide in, it follows that Orrin would turn to wine to cope with everything falling apart.
To bring this back around, let’s return to the instance of the friend killed by a farmer enraged about the Urgals, a pact Nasuada formed without Orrin’s knowledge or consent. We’re left with a man who sees the choices that have been stolen from him are the ones destroying everything he cares about. Orrin has been thrust into a position of enormous responsibility as king, and even as he’s supposed to oversee the lives of countless Surdans, he’s been left there without any true control over his own life.
Guys I fucking care about him.
Now if I may push an agenda of mine (beyond my ‘Orrin is incredibly compelling’ agenda). As I mentioned, Orrin’s lack of choice is unique amongst all the leaders of the Varden and their allies. However, it is remarkably similar to the lack of choice that Murtagh faces. He is forced into his position of power as well, when Thorn hatches for him while he’s imprisoned by Galbatorix. Then he is also forced into the role his father once held and has to fight in the war against his will.
And we know it’s against his will. In both Orrin and Murtagh, we see glimpses of the lives they would have chosen if they could. Murtagh runs away from the Empire and tries to remove himself from the conflict. Both Orrin and Murtagh show a desire to preserve their own personal peace and safety and live a fulfilling life away from the war. And this may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel this is well within their rights and is no moral failing on their part.
They are both denied a place in the world of their own choosing, and suffer terrible consequences for the fate the world forced upon them. Unlike many of the main characters, who make it through the story with their passion and drive perhaps altered and battered but intact, theirs have been broken and they’re left to pick up the pieces.
Orrin and Murtagh are both left in the end in the remnants of these positions they never wanted to fill, and it’s unsure how either would or could adjust to that reality after the destruction of the war. The parallels between them are fascinating and I think they would resonate with each other deeply if they ever interacted.

okay names :DDD
Tommy is Crashpaw currently, and his warrior name will be Crashwing! I just think 'Crash' fits his personality and 'wing' represents how he escaped from the place he was hurt!
Fundy is Foxpaw, very obvious, but his warrior name is Foxflight because wings. also same reasoning as tommy.
Purpled is Nightpaw, because the cats don't know what space or galaxies are and 'star' is a forbidden prefix. His warrior name will be Nightwatch as a reference to Watchers and to honor his adoptive father, Grainstar (Grian)
Tubbo is Goatpaw because goats and also it fits him pretty well. His warrior name is Goatcrash, taken in honor of Crashpaw, who everyone thinks is dead.
Ranboo is Halfpaw, and their full name will be Halfspirit. Also they're a medicine cat because they do not feel like a warrior lol
Now there's some plot that's needed to understand some of this so here's the basics: During their apprenticeships, Crashpaw, Foxpaw, and Nightpaw run away from their current clan to WatchClan, which wasn't really established as a clan yet, and they become the first apprentices of WatchClan.
However they also faked their deaths so-
OOOOOHH those are good
sounds like something they would do, and I like the lore too… watcher cats

For a while now I’ve had Merlelight’s grand-nephew as a character but I cannot for my life think of a name for him.
Story synopsis is as follows.
He’s a sepia pointed/orange tabby chimera with two tails (polycaudal). He was the only one to survive his litter because his mother was Merlelight’s apprentice, Pinepaw, who is one of Steadyheart’s kits. (And one of only two “legitimate” Riverclan kits of his). Pinepaw did not want him to begin with and abandoned him, and the clan in general, basically as soon as Merlelight went off to rest after the birth. There were no nursing queens at the time so Merlelight had to raise him herself, at first telling warriors to seek out prey with milk-scent to bring to her to give him the milk. He manages to survive to apprenticeship, but his temper frequently gets him in trouble, especially regarding his lifelong rival, Thunderpaw/Thunderfoot. Eventually he kills Thunderfoot in a confrontation and given that Thunderfoot is the son of the deputy at the time, Stonefoot, he’s as good as exiled (with Stonefoot declaring he’ll kill him if he ever sees him again). Icestar simply says that they think he should do what he feels is best.
Anyway he ends up leaving and it’s part of why Merlelight does not take another apprentice until Tansypaw shortly before her death. Before she’ll accept being in Starclan she demands to find out what had become of him, and she found that he’d been taken in by Twolegs and was kept in a large enclosure in a research facility as he was too vicious to be a housecat. The Twolegs would use him for breeding. She also finds Pinepaw, who was an elderly housecat living alongside the father of her litter.
The obvious choice is Twokit/Twopaw/Twotail (he never got a full clan name) but that’s just kind of boring lol. I’ve also considered Splitkit/Splitpaw/Splittail, Halfkit/Halfpaw.
I wish there was some sort of plant that had two stalks or leaves or something lol. I can’t find anything.

CrystalClan pt 3
5th Newleaf
Stonewhister got skunked. Not really relevant. Just thought it was funny.
All of the kits became apprentices the same moon. It’s an exciting and rowdy bunch.
Plumpaw is apprenticed to Star, but has a lot of anxiety around becoming a warrior apprentice. Not helped by him having strange dreams. He wonders if he’s on the right path.
Cricketpaw is apprenticed to Tulipnose who immediatly starts gossiping to her about other clanmates. She has an exciting first training with Halfpaw in the tunnels, where she accidentally bumps into him.
Vinepaw is apprenticed to Roseypelt, Sharpstar hoping that the brave cat can help Vinepaw come out of her shell a bit. She's very relient on her sisters, espesially Egretpaw. She's a bit resentful of Halfpaw, wondering why a cat from a fake clan who was the child of a leader that couldn't hack it gets to have the leader for her mentor.
Egretpaw and Racoonsnout work well together, and she emerges as a bit of a leader for her fellow apprentices. Well-liked and always reasonable.
Firpaw had been somewhat of a sickly kit. She's prone to seizures, which Snowmane is the best a helping her with. She also catches greencough right before becoming an apprentice. Despite this she's very self confident, in her abilities and appearance. Being the child of two deputies, she feels certain that she's got the skills to succeed. Though many think she a bit foolish, Thornwater, her mentor, thinks it's good she's got a positive attitude and wants to help her develop the skills she seems to know she has.
Halfpaw is truely shocked when Sharpstar proclaims she will be his mentor. He's had trouble feeling accepted by his clan mates, and really he just feels even more singled out.
Warblerpaw is happy to be apprenticed to as strong a fighter as Braveblaze. Hoping he'll learn some topnotch fighting abilities.
Martenshine decides to retire, only after being reassured that she won’t be thought less of. Her leg giving her a lot of trouble. She hadn’t even been able to make it out to visit the twolegs she was fond of. She’s happy that her clanmates care enough to support her.
5th Greenleaf
Thornwater, not for the first time, wonders if leadership is right for him. He loves guiding his clan mates, and looking out for them, and cracking jokes. But bossing other people around has never been fun for him. As Sharpstar ages, he wonders if he could handle those same burdens. He wonders if he wants to. Or if he just wants an uncomplicated life with Rosypelt. He decides to think on it. A few moons later he discovers he’ll at least get a nice break in the form of his and Rosypelt’s first litter of kits.
Snowmane and Goosetooth find a dead queen and two surviving kits. Naming them Applekit and Riverkit. Goosetooth seems shaken when Riverkit opens his eyes to show one is deep blue and the other is yellow. Though he does not elaborate why. Thornwater and Rosypelt decide to take care of them, as they’re moving into the nursery soon anyways.
5th Leaf-fall
Racoonsnout also announces kits with Ridgetalon
Plumpaw passes every assesment with flying colors, and are made a warrior early, alone, before everyone else. This does not help their confidence. He’s half convinced Star passed him just to be done with him.
Thornwater and Rosypelt have five kits......
Star retires, all but confirming to Plumfreckle that she wanted to be done with him. Having no idea that literally no one else feels this way.
Cricketpaw becomes Cricketspeck, and is honored for her adaptability. She’s certainly grown into a people-pleaser, and is very good at telling cats what they want to hear.
Having learned a lot from Braveblaze, the newly named Warblerfall thinks of himself as a very cool lonesome warrior. He even wonders what it would like to be a loner, roaming from place to place.
Ridgetalon and Racoonsnout have four kits. Too many kits...
Vineshell, Firflutter, and Halftalon join the ranks of the warriors, leaving Egretpaw alone in the apprentice den. She fails her final assesment because she was thinking more about her sisters and Halftalon. She takes it in stride, at least on the outside, Racoonsnout is apologetic, as with the new litter, he’ll have to pass the bulk of her training to someone else. She understands and trains with the rest of her contemporaries.
6th Leafbare
A kittypet named Midnight Goddess joins the clan. Alright.
Egretwing receives her full name. Racoonsnout is extremely proud. And looks forward to seeing he warrior she becomes.
Sweet Marmalade lands on her feet at last... But her mate is still slipping.
Bigkit, a kit found by Spottedmint and Snowmane, gets apprenticed to Braveblaze. Expressing his wish to be the strongest cat in the clan.
Thundertail dies of frostbite. Goldcreek is very upset that he couldn’t save her. Even more upset that he didn’t have any idea that it was going to happen.
Applepaw is apprenticed to Firflutter. It’s hoped she’ll get him out of his shell, and explain things in a way he can understand.
Riverpaw has a strange dream on the eve of his and his brother’s apprentice ceremonies. He sees a white cat in a feild of blue flowers. The flowers whither and die as the cat walks through them. He’s apprenticed to Egretwing, a cat who’s proven herself to be wise and an excellent teacher before even becomming a warrior.
