could frodo from lord of the rings survive castle dracula🤔
Stephen King I know this is you
This one just makes me sad. Hasn't he suffered enough? It's also surprisingly difficult for me to get a read on it, despite me knowing the character very very well. He's just a little guy...
Frodo is not going to refuse anyone's gifts, and being unexpectedly protected by forgotten gifts is something he's very good at. He also doesn't shave so that's a thing. He does get very very subjected to the Horrors, and all hobbits are remarkably good at enduring hardship, even if they complain about it. Frodo is on the less complainy side of the spectrum, but the more hardship side of the spectrum.
He is plucky and courageous in a pinch. He would go exploring, with probably comparable results, although he may not be able to get into the blocked door. Would the Girlies want him? Well he's not that young but he is extremely baby sized. I think they'd be disappointed because they'd be expecting Delicious Baby and instead get Middle Aged Guy Going Through It. He knows he's not going to be able to oppose Dracula physically or mentally, so he won't get himself killed trying. He already has queer dreams. He already doesn't need shoes.
I think he would have a harder time psychologically in the Castle - Tolkien characters really don't like not being able to see the sun or feel grass between their toes - but an easier time with the Jon-a-Thon if that makes sense? But again he handled the Barrow-Wights (up to a point) and that's a really comparable situation. He keeps his head under extreme pressure, even if he loses his mind a bit. And he does just keep putting one foot in front of the other while all his other faculties fail him.
Based on the escape from the Emyn Muil I am confident Frodo could make it down the wall. He'd probably be happier if he had Sam's rope but again he's used to using his toes for things. He's got the right amount of courage to be making the daring attempts he needs to and the right amount of cowardice to not be eaten by wolves.
I'm ignoring the Ring because I don't think it helps him in this situation (see: Griffin Invisibleman). If anything it just adds to the psychological burden and he's better off without it.
In the final analysis I think Frodo Baggins can survive Castle Dracula, but he'll never be okay again.
Damn you Stephen King, you can't keep getting away with this.
ah NB this analysis is done with respect to Frodo as he appears in the the books. Movie!Frodo is 20 years younger and much more passive a character. I don't know if Movie!Frodo would think to go out the window unprompted, for instance, but I really don't know.

Was thinking about just how much characters in the Silm and LOTR deal with pain an injuries on a daily basis. It’s not always said plainly but they exist in the story, they live, they are important, and I wonder how much of them are inspired by Tolkien’s own experience of war injuries/illness. How many of his fellow soldiers came back home disfigured and disabled and were faced with disgust or contempt?
Sure, there’s the whole fairy-tale/mythic aspect of loosing a limb in your heroic quest to get the Magic Object, but what about Gwindor, who was captured by Morgoth and, when he finally managed to escape, was so changed by his sufferings that his beloved rejected him? Gwindor’s not a hero, he’s a simple soldier who suffered through war and captivity and became disabled because of that. How much pain did he live with daily even if it’s never said on the page?
And, still in the CoH, there’s Brandir the Lame. He was born disabled, couldn’t be a warrior, yet held a position of power until his people wanted action and scorned him. Brandir is a healer, a man of wisdom and lore; how much of it is because he tried to cure himself? To ease his pain but also try to "fix" himself in the eyes of his people and be the worthy leader he thought they wanted.
There is Sador ‘Labadal’ too, who chopped his foot off in an accident and is looked down for that by several character (not the least of them being Morwen).
These three characters are all disabled and looked upon with pity, contempt or outright disgust. They did not become disabled in the doing of great deeds, their stories aren’t heroic, and so their disability makes them worthless in the eyes of many.
If you take Maedhros, on the other hand (pun fully intended), he is seen as made greater by his disability. He suffered unthinkable torments and was freed at the price of his right hand, and did many great and terrible things after that. It is similar for Beren, who also lost his hand (arm chopping is not a love language!) but it always portrayed as a good and heroic character, because his disability is the direct result of him taking part in the great designs of the world rather than a banal accident.
And that’s only for the Silm characters, because we don’t want to forget about Frodo of the Nine Fingers, who bore the One Ring to the very fires of Mt Doom. Frodo who returned home sickly and traumatised, plagued with chronic pain, nightmares and a poor health and was only looked at down by the hobbits who did not take part in the quest if the ring. Frodo may be a hero for Men and Elves but he has little to no recognition in his homeland.
Another character I nearly forgot (shame on me!) is Celebrían, She was captured and tortured and despite her physical wounds healing she was never the same again, to the point she had to leave her family to seek healing elsewhere. I see this as a form of mental illness, probably depression and PTSD. And Celebrían is not thought as lesser because of her disability. She is seen as a tragic story, yes, but it’s better than most of the other disabled characters in the Silm.
Anyway, I don’t really know what my point is here, just that I noticed a pattern in the representation of disabled characters in Tolkien’s works, first of all that they exist at all, and second that how they are treated certainly reflects the views of society on disabled people during Tolkien’s lifetime. The way he writes disabled characters isn’t perfect, far from it, but they are here, and I, as a disabled reader, am immensely glad for their existence and I play in the gigantic sandbox of the Legendarium with these characters and others whom I imagine as disabled in any way.

Everytime I see those tearful arguments between Elrond & Arwen in TTT, & the elves parting from ME in groups, I remember that Bilbo is at that time living in Rivendell.
Like he first came there with his merry band of dwarves, and the elves sang silly songs for them & messed around with them & Bilbo got an invitation from a cheerful Elrond to stay there if he wants, & then Bilbo spent a nice calming time there on his way back to Shire, in which the elves teased him about his snoring.
So years later, in his retired days he decided to take Elrond up on his offer, & then! Everyone left Rivendell! Almost no elves left! Even Elladan & Elrohir are not home! And Arwen just lies in her bed 24/7, reads John Green, and cries, and Elrond plays sad harp & smokes cigarettes. And the family dinners are a fucking nightmare as Bilbo tries to think of a topic for conversation while Arwen & Elrond sit in silence & it seems like if the fork makes the wrong sound hitting the plate they'll burst into tears.

Okay so great review of The Hobbit by my dad’s student, who must have read the book very, very carefully because he gave the most perfect, IMMACULATE description of the plot and the characters:
The Hobbit is a prequel to J.J.J.R.R.Tolkien’s The King of the Rings
The protagonist is Bilbo, a dwarf who goes on an adventure with other dwarves, elfs and goblins, and the films show many of the landscapes described in the book
They fight against many enemies, such as dwarves, elfs and ogres and Gandalf is a magician who is very powerful
The elf Bilbo must take the ring back from Smaug who is the king of the rings and is keeping all the treasure in the world for himself and they must kill him by stabbing him in the part of his body that doesn’t have scales
There is a very big battle where all the armies fight each other and it is the most exciting part of the film (you were writing a review for the film my dear boy)
In the end, Bilbo, the hobbit, can go to his house safe again and remember all his adventures
He deserves the highest mark for the best unintentional parody and I know in my heart his version is the one Tolkien had intended from the beginning

Hiiii I'm here to just ask what your absolute favorite bilbo baggins headcanon is because I love that little guy so much he's such a comfort character
I was going to tell you mie but hen completely have no clue WHAT my favorite headcanon is so. oops. JSBSJSJIS
Haha well still feel free to shoot one to me regardless 😉 hmmm well my toxic trait is having two completely opposing headcanons for Bilbo in that on one hand I think he would be the sweetest and so amusing to see in a relationship and on the other I'm like... THIS MAN IS AROACE YOUR HONOR. TBH I love both in their own way though lmaos. I love the idea of him adopting more than just Frodo too even though it's not canon, like whenever I imagine isekai-type stuff for like if I was going into Middle-Earth to join the company (yes I do that don't judge meeeee 😂) I always want to be adopted by Bilbo 🥺 I just love him too omg I want to hang out with him so bad he makes me so happy!!!

for all it's faults (which are none) the 1977 the hobbit movie really encapsulates the 'cranky old man'ness of bilbo baggins that the peter jackson trilogy fails to do-like that's not bilbo baggins that's just martin freeman playing martin freeman
