ID: the “shoutout to women fr” meme. It’s edited to read: “Shoutout to child soldiers who become disillusioned with the status quo they were raised to uphold. Gotta be one of my favorite archetypes.” There are pictures of Rex Salazar (Generator Rex), Theresa (Class of The Titans), Rell (League of Legends), and Amara Namani (Pacific Rim). At the bottom, additional text reads: “I also fw boy kings who are made to carry so much at such a young age too if anyone was wondering.” There are pictures of Lloyd Garmadon (Ninjago), Nathan Byrne (Half Bad Trilogy), and King Ezran (The Dragon Prince). End ID.

“Did you get my blood?”
“Yes.”
“See, I knew it would be okay.”
“Why did you kiss me?”

I know some folks are mad he doesn’t look like he does in the books but (which normally would annoy me, even when I haven’t read said books)
I’m a little bit in love-
But in fairness again I haven’t read the books so I might feel differently

Wake up babe, it's time for the yearly Half Bad hyperfixation.
I'm lowkey mad they took away Nathan's scarfs for the show so I gave it back to him, yes, it's a reference to the covers' colors and the ending of the books, thanks for noticing 😭😭

I’ve seen some absolutely awful takes on The Bastard Son and The Devil Himself on this site so I’m throwing in my thoughts and a few things you should know (the last one contains spoilers!!)
• It’s a loose adaptation, it’s definitely more inspired by the books than a direct adaptation
• IT IS MEANT TO MAKE YOU A BIT UNCOMFORTABLE!!! It’s about politics and racism but in NO WAY is it meant to attack poc or encourage racism!! If you read the books you’d understand that, I also saw someone say the books don’t have a poc main character?? Nathan is described as “olive skinned” that’s considered Type III, Type IV, and Type V ranges of the Fitzpatrick scale and given he has dark eyes and hair he’s most likely in the IV-V range!
Tumblr media
• Please at least google the summary of the books or read the first one, it’ll help you understand a bit more
• It’s dark but not as dark as the books, there’s definitely gore but even that is considerably less bad than what’s described in the books
• A bunch of things changed from book to the show (I rebloged someone’s post that had a list before this post, go check it out!!)
• GABRIEL IS 19!! I know he looks older and dated an older guy (iirc 28) but he’s 19 so it’s not actually weird for him to be with someone who’s 17, it’s a 2 year and a couple months difference
• Dear god some of you don’t know what morally grey is and it’s killing me, yes, Soul is a piece of shit but (1) he was trying to protect people at first, he wanted peace (2) he was manipulated by Jessica, she used his previous kindness and his current grief and terror against him (3) he was driven mad at the end by his new ability

I feel duty bound to inform you that if you are thinking about watching The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself but haven’t read the Half Bad trilogy then the books do NOT end well. Hopefully the series will only be a loose adaptation but, in case it isn’t, this is your warning that I have never been so angry about what happens to queer characters (and it’s not just one, it’s three of them).

Huh, I didn't realise The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself was an adaptation of the Half Bad trilogy. I haven't read the series myself, though I'm guessing a lot of changes have been made. But as someone who just started watching the series without having read the series/didn't even realise it was an adaptation, all I can say is a fucking loved it. Genuinely expected it to be another crap teen fantasy drama, but this show's a riot.

“They killed her because of hatred. They killed her because of revenge and anger... and hurt and politics. They killed her because of a war that has been going on so long that anyone who was there when it started is bones in the fucking ground. Killed her because they’re sons of bitches and fucking cowards. You know this, Nathan. You know it’s not your fault.” - Ceelia Bennet to Nathan Byrne on his mother’s death (The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself, Episode 1.6)

I rarely do my own posts but The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself??? Impeccable. 11/10 show and book adaptation.
Is it a 1:1 adaptation of the book? No. But it retained the gist of the story, and that’s what’s important. They placed the same soul in a different body without losing what’s made it so wonderful and unique in the first place. It’s still so gritty, still so fun and lovely, sad and unfair. We often get such lackluster, half-hearted (or even lifeless) adaptations but here you could see that the show’s creators actually cared about the story and put effort into adaptating Half Bad. I’m so, so happy that this not very popular book series was given into such good hands. :’) Little fandom win!!
Also: The scenery is so pretty and the effects so good?? Every time a body gets pulled apart it looks horrific in the best way. I’m not even mad they changed Annalise’s gift; this is so much better. In general, they swapped horrible things that happened (to Nathan) in the books with other horrible things and I think that’s great. New things and surprises without watering down the tone like cowards.
Sure, Arran and Deborah aren’t in the show alongside other characters but the show still works without them (still works in itself) and does such a good job in general, they don’t even have to be there. (Though I would love for them to appear in future seasons that better happen (!!!) even if they aren’t related to Nathan anymore; he needs some friends.)

Café Con Lychee Summary:
Theo Mori and Gabriel Moreno have always been at odds. Their parents own rival businesses—an Asian American café and a Puerto Rican bakery—and Gabi’s lack of coordination has cost their soccer team too many games to count.
Stuck in the closet and scared to pursue his own dreams, Gabi sees his family’s shop as his future. Stuck under the weight of his parents’ expectations, Theo’s best shot at leaving Vermont means first ensuring his parents’ livelihood is secure.
So when a new fusion café threatens both shops, Theo and Gabi realize an unfortunate truth—they can only achieve their goals by working together to cook up an underground snack operation and win back their customers. But can they put aside their differences long enough to save their parents’ shops, or will the new feelings between them boil over?
The Half Bad Trilogy Summary:
A boy has a mother who is a ‘good magic’ user and a father who is an ‘evil magic’ user and the government goes ‘hmmmm he’ll probably be evil then!’ And proceeds to just generally be awful. The finale of the third book made me cry so hard i still felt sick two days later. The fact that this isn’t talked about more means Big Yaoi failed me. It’s gonna lose but I need more people to read it.
