The Batman: Remember Hope. [fanfic]

Synopsis: Bruce deals with the aftermath of the battle between the Justice League and Mongol some two years ago. The fact that they lost and disbanded.

The fact that they lost Hal Jordan.

Word Count: 1.2k

Crime.

No matter where you were in the world, like some shapeless element of nature, it’d find its way through the cracks. Seeping through the chinks of armor constructed by law, politicians, and government. Becoming a great wave that, eventually, warped over such barriers with no problems. A wave that began to push against the mighty wall — a nightly wall called *heroes* — that separated all goodness from chaos. From malice.

From insanity.

Bruce couldn’t help but flicker his gaze over to the framed playing card across the room -- A *joker*.

From complete destruction;

And that wall had toppled.

Dark brown eyes quickly cut back up to the monitor that hung above him. As something churned inside his gut, Bruce rested his stern jew on the bridge of his folded hands in front of him. His eyes burned from being at the computer for so long. He was used to it. Though his eyes sat as pools of brooding shadow, there was something vibrant reflected in its tartarus depths. The whiplashed, orange-tint of flames. The shadow of destruction, yanking tirelessly at a memory — grief — that the man fought daily to cage behind discipline. Behind a cowl.

A practically destroyed Metropolis. A wrecked Gotham, some two years ago.

Crime had graduated.

It’d gotten bigger. More present.

It’d become evil.

Though Metropolis and Gotham were rebuilt -- by the combined help of the U.S government, Lexcorp, Queens Industry and Wayne Tech -- there was no fixing what happened that day. A great darkness had consumed the Earth, and the powers opposing fought back. Like they always did - the Justice League fought back. Hope -- led by blurs of red and blue, black, and golden rope -- shot through the skies. Every eye that looked up and saw, though twinkled with fear, danced with sureness. With faith.

And when that explosion rocked that ship, casting a storm of grotesque visceral through the yonder? When the gods fell from the skies -- smoking, torn, beaten?

There was no question about it.

Unanimously -- the Justice League had lost.

Though Mongul was defeated, there was a sacrifice that had to be made.

Hal Jordan.

The Justice League.

*Hope*.

Bruce pushed an inch away from his desk and the monitor of the gigantic supercomputer that loomed ahead. His eyes rapidly danced across the screen as he pushed back the last wise-cracking words of the Green Lantern in his mind and took in the information before him. Stats. Crime across Metropolis, Gotham, Central City and more had risen at least thirty to forty percent since the Justice League disbanded some two years ago. Bruce was still more than active — in fact, more active than he had ever been — and the semi-retired Man of Steel had put a Woman of steel in his place. Heroes all across the world were still active — but not as much.

They’d failed, and Bruce could not live with that. No. Never.

None of them could, but he was the first to walk.

Unlike any other time - he was the first to give up.

And unlike any other time?

He’d begun to doubt himself.

He couldn’t take any more of it.

Bruce flipped through the rest of the images; a compilation of photos documented from the last day of Mongol’s invasion, a mixture of photos from his satellite, drones, and international news coverage. Something inside of him pulled him to dig deeper in the files. Deeper in a heart protected by a symbol made manifest from its illness. The same heart that, along the years, had been touched. Understood. Joined in a mixture of pain turned into something bigger. Something good.

Bruce stared up at the group picture. From left to right, there was Arthur, J’onn, himself, Clark, Diana, Barry — and then Hal. As he gazed at the face and the witty, characteristic grin on his face, he couldn’t help but whisper on the inside; *’I’m sorry.’*

But sorry wasn’t good enough. Only action was. He couldn’t fix what happened that day, but he could fix another mistake he made. He couldn’t fix the world — but they could.

The Justice League could.

As Bruce rose from his seat and positioned his cowl ,something danced inside of the fiery pits of his soul. An ember.

An ember called hope.

“Sir,” a familiar accent talked over the white noise of sky travel, “I packed you layers for your rather .. chilly evening, but you seem to already be halfway there.” Alfred spoke in a slightly annoyed but unsurprised tone. “I usually tend to shy away from your .. extracurricular activity unless you require my council or assistance .. but you seem rather upset. More than usual. Do you require backu—”

“𝙉𝙤, 𝘼𝙡𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙙. 𝙄𝙩’𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩.” The Batman replied, cutting him off. A black, sharp-curved jet shot through the tundric, storming winds of the arctic, serving as a juxtaposition to a setting that was almost completely drenched in white.

“𝙄’𝙢 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙪𝙥𝙨𝙚𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙮𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛. 𝙄 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙬𝙤 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙜𝙤. 𝙄 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮.”

“Well then, sir.” Alfred said, “Let us just hope that our Kryptonian friend has not gotten spoiled from the riches of retirement.”

“𝙄 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩.” The Batman replied firmly with a hint — a *hint* of concern. Visual of Alfred collapsed and was absorbed by a transparent holographic interface spread across the jet’s windshield.

Clark, indeed, had been occupied. He had a son. Moved to Kansas — Bruce was happy for him. But he was still a realist, one more than ever.

The world needed Superman more than his family needed Clark Kent, he thought. But he wasn’t the one to make that decision — Clark wouldn’t dare let him — but he could coerce it that direction.

Secondly? He could visit an old friend. It’d been years. Truthfully, Bruce missed him, but he’d never admit it. Over the years, though, Clark had learned to read past that. He’d learned to see past the mask, without x ray vision. Though even with all of that in mind and heart, a sliver of radioactive rock sat snug in his utility belt — kryptonite. Just incase he — the man he considered to be his best friend — for some reason wasn’t happy to see him.

Trust issues was an understatement.

He’d entered the vicinity of the fortress five minutes ago. Beyond the mist persperated from the cold were mounds of frost, ice and icebergs. A tundra — and what seemed to sit dead in the middle of it was a work of art. Mountainous. crystals meticulously collapsed to create a more than habitable lair. The energy signals reading off of it were off the charts, and the kryptonian technology inside was almost even too mysterious for him.

Almost.

A clouded wave of frost began to spread out as the jet landed. Pressure and heat from the rocket exhaust ripped and melted through layers of ice, and in a chilled whirlwind , the aircraft landed. Bruce quickly shut off the controls, the protective harness — or seatbelt — following an automatic function in raising from his chest. When he opened the visor of the jet and rose from the cockpit, it was made clear to him that the elements would waste no time. Arctic air already ran its gnarled fingers and claws across the half of his face untouched by the cowl. Through the whirling winds and sheets of snow and sharpened ice, Bruce kept his eyes on the entrance as he began hustling through the snow. Adapting. His tolerance for pain was almost inhuman, and the cold — within a few seconds — was nothing.

The Batman emerged from the depths of a snowstorm and stood in front of the entrance of the Fortress of Solitude.

There was no need for knocking; Clark would have already heard him when he landed.

Her husband Jefferson's first mission as Captain was to capture the Prowler, but he was killed in the process. Years as a childless widow, Rio moved back to Puerto Rico as a community leader. I have some OC's (that I may add to in the future).

If you'd like to roleplay with me then you can message me. But first-

Some ground rules!

- I only do literate, no * or stuff like that (I'll write an example).

- I'd prefer it to be on Discord.

- I only write as my OC's. I feel very comfortable with them. You can be just canon characters if you'd like, I don't mind. If there are lots (like battles was stuff) in a scene, I'll do my best to help you. (I would prefer if you'd be a canon character though.)

- This is going to be a one-on-one roleplay. No groups, it's too chaotic for me and I'd get too overwhelmed otherwise.

- You have to be at least 18+ age range.

- No minors, because I will be doing dark themes, NSFW, and the like. And no, I will not make exceptions. (Please don't lie to me about your age, that's just fucked up and I'll immediately block you if you do.)

- You have to have canon knowledge of what we'll be roleplaying (that would be obvious lmao.)

- You have to put in just as much effort as me. It's frustrating when I come back to a two liner reply. Especially since I write A LOT. It would just discourage me. 50/50 is preferred. Don't force yourself to write if you don't want to (have health issues, feeling down in the dumps, ect. Please tell me if something is wrong of course.)

- If you have OC's, that's alright too. Just ask me before you randomly throw them in. I'll be showing you my OC's in advance before we start writing. Just know that I do still want you to control a canon character.

- COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid of me either, haha. I just have to be firm. I don't mind talking outside of the roleplay too. It's always nice to make friends!

- And please don't ghost me, several people have done that and it just hurts. Tell me if you're going to be gone for a while, or if you want to change the rp, or you just need a break.

Gambit, Cyclops, The Angel (Mutants: Mainly the comics and animated), Spiderman (Mainly the comics and animated), Daredevil (TV Show, Comics)...might add more.

Mainly for both, I can't list specific comics because that would be way too long. But I do like older works rather than some new stuff. Like the Green Lantern expanded lore about the galaxy in DC, as an example, where they bring back Hal Jordan.

Those are what I'm familiar with. If you also like these, then hit me up. We'd have to talk a bit before writing, such as your own limitations, boundaries, and the like.

Valrel sighs as she crouches on the railing, arms bent on her knees as she looks down at the city lights. It's beautiful tonight, from up here at least. She'd just gotten done with a full sweep of the surrounding block two times, making sure everything is right as rain. She'd been planning this for a month, so it best work when the time was right. She'd kept track of all the potential threats, witnesses, and the people that live in this expensive apartment complex. From all walks of life, but they're all rich - particularly the ones on top. At the penthouse.

Flipping up and over the balcony railing above her, steps silent as she crouches again. The wind passes by, playing with her loose white locks as she forms water around her fingers. Flexing them, her eyes glow under her blue opaque visor - the water slips in under the crack of the locked glass door. Boom. Open. Using her other hand to slide it open, taking a step in.

She'd taken the precaution to loop the empty rooms camera for around 10 minutes. That's all she needs. Security is down around here. The residents did go on a nice vacation away from Blüdhaven, fortunate for her - not so much for them. They won't even notice anyways. Still, Valrel footsteps are silent as she makes her way through the roomy living room and to the home office, sliding in, she's quick to go to the safe and start with picking the lock with her powers. Staying alert. Nightwing might appear like he usually does. Not that she minds his presence...he's just distracting when she's doing something she deems important. Valrel huffs to herself, smirking lightly with amusement quirking her expression.

She won't say she doesn't have fun when he decides to come around.

ATLA, post-series (f!waterbender OC x Zuko), my OC travels to manage her family's merchant guild. She meets Fire Lord Zuko & both are adorably awkward about their developing feelings. Both are 18+.

Marvel/MCU (PLATONIC: f!superpowered OC x Tony Stark). She's arrested by SHIELD for espionage & ends up doing "community service" for them/the Avengers. Cue fluff + action + found family.

Canon

Out of character here obviously, but here's some general notes about the canon and interpretations of the characters I play. Not just batman.

This blog and all associated blogs are concurrent with the Roguesona AU group. The other main blogs for that are @e-nygma-official and @ask-riddleglider, they are commonly popping up blogs.

Carrie Kelly is here.

Annie Wayne, previously known as Annie Hagen is also adopted. She's from the animated episode "Growing Pains" except she didn't die.

This Bruce is more based off of Lego Batman/animated series Batman/WFA Batman anything else. He is capable of some emotions.

Barbara Gordon is directly part of the Batfamily here. She is close family with both Bruce and his kids. She is not dating any of his kids.

Bruce is trying to learn from the Flash how to do more peaceful conflict resolution.

Carrie is gay, Babs is probably bisexual, Annie is gender fluid, Duela is also gay, and oh boy are we just getting started.

Carrie has a tendancy to date the children of super villains.

Annie is technically the child of Clayface by mitosis.

Duela Dent was Carrie's Ex, they're now besties

Riddler, Harley, Ivy, and Freeze are all villains Bruce deemed "safe enough" for his kids to go to for help.

Harley and Ivy especially are a-ok to go to for help. Babs is close with them especially, but Carrie will go for advice/shits and giggles

Ace is here! Ace is alive!

Ace has minimal powers.

Batman has an issue with Hal Jordan

Like, I don't think she's verbalized a word yet. It's all ASL

Cass I'm choosing to portray as gifted kid syndrome and not autistic. I think Gifted Kid Syndrome fits her better. But both interpretations are 100% correct.

Cass and Babs are both being portrayed as at the strongest they've been portrayed, with Oracle being key to Batman's success and Cass being his heir.

Duela calls Riddler "dad" and RiddleGlider "brother"

Duela Dent recently gave up on Eagle after how he treated her while he was in Gotham.

Duela is putting together a supersuit to join the crime fighting, she'll be going by "Batman's daughter" because all her creativity goes into costume design. Not naming.

Ace has minimal powers due to how she saved herself.

Who are considered most wanted for the rp?

We have a huge cry for more DC characters! Oliver Queen, Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, Slade Wilson, Hal Jordan, and Roy Harper to name a few! Our Justice League ladies could use their friends! For Marvel, our most wanted include any and all X-Men/Mutant characters, Bruce Banner to round out our OG Avengers, Bobbi Morse, Carol Danvers, Jessica Drew, Jennifer Walters. It'd also be awesome to see a Peter Parker or any Spider-Man. Plus, personally, I'd love to see some more Defenders crew.

☆ / UNITY — A DC x Marvel RP.

Hey! Unity is a crossover Discord server that's been up and running for almost a year now, and we're looking to expand! Our server is semi-lit, though we do have a more laid-back texting channel.

We use Earth 616 (Marvel) and Prime Earth (DC) as our settings, though we do allow characters from other versions of the earths. We tend to not use the movieverse as a source, excluding media like Agents of Shield or occasionally Young Justice.

We have a very long list of taken characters, but there are still many, many roles we're looking for! As an example, we're looking for: Carol Danvers (Marvel), Jean Grey (Marvel), Donna Troy (DC), and Hal Jordan (DC). Of course, there are also a lot of minor characters!

This server is also OC-friendly, but we are canon-focused.
