pledging for GYWO 2024 is open! I’ve pledged again - I’ve done GYWO since 2012 and this year is the second year I’ve completed a pledge (first time was in 2018) though I’ve come close a few times and also some years fallen very short of the mark.
There are several pledge types and throughout the year (and the month) there are various voluntary activities one can participate in to stay motivated. Only mandatory thing is the formal check-in every month.
I’ve seen whispers on here wrt people wanting to check out or go back to dreamwidth; if you are writing minded then this community could be a great way to use dreamwidth more actively and connect with people.

GetYourWordsOut: Year Sixteen! Pledges & Requirements | getyourwordsout.net
Happy New Year, friends!
This post is just to share the love--I've participated in Get Your Words Out for the past few years, and it's really good for motivation and celebrating any words written, not just the ones on the big projects. There are wordcount goals, as well as habit goals, and it's a nice, low-pressure way to see what you've done, writing-wise, throughout the year.

If anyone is looking for year-round writing accountability, you might check out Get Your Words Out (GYWO).
They have several levels of annual Word Count pledges, from 75K (about 200 words a day) on up, or you could choose a Habit pledge instead that tracks the number of days you do writing activities.
They have monthly check-ins to help you keep on track, and a supportive community on Dreamwidth.
I believe the deadline is January 15th to join!

GYWO is a global community of writers, pledging to reach a certain wordcount over the year, or pledging to write a certain amount of time over the year.
It's a personal accountability system, with forms you fill out every month, a tumblr here @gywo and a discord server.
If you're thinking about setting some goals for the new year, this might be just what you're looking for.

Guess I had a good start writing-wise: I wrote 21,687 words in January!
Didn't publish all of them, but four fics with together 16,098 words is still not too bad for a busy month. 😀
All four fics were for challenges, too, which is a funny coincidence, but also maybe the reason I wrote so many words. Deadlines really help. They're also all rather explicit, hehe.
Links and details under the cut!

Explicit, Porn With Plot, Jealousy, Cocktail Party
New Year's Eve in Paris is one of the most romantic experience for any couple. Except, Diana and 47 aren't a couple. They haven't even planned on pretending to be one. Both have business to attend to, but that doesn't mean they can't try to find pleasure in what they're doing—until the party turns from sweet to sour.
Tumblr media
Explicit, Mission Fic, Porn With Plot, Sex Clubs, Aphrodisiac
A contract requires Diana Burnwood and Agent 47 to find their target in a nightclub during its infamous "Frivolous Fables" sex party. Thanks to their masks, it should be easy for them to blend in; but without knowing, Diana makes it even easier.
Based on 47 Shades of Burnwood: A Night Out

Explicit, Porn With Plot, Mission Fic, Voice Kink, Praise Kink
It is a rare treat for Agent 47 and Diana Burnwood to work in the field together. Their two targets are in Marrakesh to finalise a business deal that needs to be prevented at all costs, and so they decide to split up to keep them apart. Things don’t always go as planned, but improvisation is part of the craft, and drawbacks only make the reward even sweeter.
Based on 47 Shades of Burnwood: Mission Debriefing
Tumblr media
Explicit, Freelancer, First Kiss, Agent and Handler to Lovers
Diana visits 47 in his new house for the first time. They have a lot to discuss, but some things remain unsaid, and other things are said in a language 47 didn't expect them to speak.

Well so far for GYWO I'm doing better than last year. This is an 8x increase on last year's total monthly words
Like if I managed to finish NaNo in November, and write just 1k for every other month this year I'd hit my target. And that's kinda mad to think about.

I can tell it's been a busy year if I hadn't updated my fic housekeeping since last November. I have not done a lot fic-wise this year but I have hit my 250k goal for GYWO nonetheless. 228k words through roleplaying lmao, great.

Herding the Words: Q3 2023
So this is a month late, thanks to my body and brain ganging up on me – which I’ve mainly talked about over on Substack – yet when I look back over the past four months my word herding has once again mostly been a positive force in my life.  In terms of stats I’ve added another 40k words to the yearly count, taking me over 100k in total, and last Friday I hit my Get Your Words Out habit goal of…

Sunday Summary
This week was a huge milestone for me in that I hit my GYWO goal of writing 200,000 words this year, and I did it several months early! I've been in a huge writing dry spell for almost a year and a half, and last year I was way too ambitious with my wordcount goals and got in my head about it and failed miserably. This year I was a lot more modest, AND I had the amazing Hellcheer community putting wind in my sails so… yay! 200k!
Beyond that, I've been traveling so missed a few days of writing, but still got some words in!
🚛 to get my soul known again - 170
Edited Chapter 28, sent to the beta, will post it tomorrow, woo-hoo!
🏛️ College/Townie - 5,476
Got a lot done on this one, and I'm almost done with the first chapter, which is ending up as a crazy 10k epic thing. I have a feeling this one might be a fic where the chapters take a long time, but they end up being pretty long when they do get posted. Anyway, these two are a messsssssssss and I love them already.
😈 Kinktober - 3,138
I have 4/31 fills done, the shortest of which is 255 words and the longest of which is 1,100. I was trying to get everything in under 1k, but now I'm just going where the spirit moves me. Two of them, so far, are kinks I've never written before. God bless.
Grand Total: 5,959
Not bad considering I only wrote 4 of 7 days!
Six-sentence Sunday later, I hope, plus soul tomorrow and kinkmeme 3 on Weeeednesday?

GYWO 2024, or Siana is doing wordcount challenges again
Yesterday I signed up for 'Get Your Words Out', a year-long writing challenge on Dreamwidth (and also Tumblr: @gywo). I'm aiming to write 500k in 2024.
I'm not sure if it's strictly following the rules, but I'm going to count all the words I usually count in my personal spreadsheets, so that's my daily journal, all fiction, and project notes associated with fiction. This is going by the recommendation to count words that support my writing habit. I thought about only counting words of fiction, but I've tried that in the past and I end up skipping important notes/planning stuff because it doesn't contribute to meeting a goal.
My main reason for signing up for a year-long challenge is… hard to explain? The thing is that I count the words anyway, but in the absence of any external reason, I find myself mentally correlating the wordcount with the health of the project. If I write 500 words of a draft in a month, I feel like that project must not be as good as the other one I write 10k in. I'm hoping that by participating in GYWO, I can feel more like all the words are positive contributions to something.
I don't know if that explains it at all.
I guess I have some kind of subconscious minimum standard for wordcounts. If I don't reach some arbitrary number of words in an amount of time, I feel like there's something wrong with either a) the story or b) the writer.
Honestly, it's usually c) there's something wrong with the story AND the writer.
So anyway, I'm hoping that if words mean something on their own (GYWO progress), I might feel better about the small numbers.

AO3 wrapped
Friends, Romans, countryfolks, nobody tagged me, but I saw @ilthit do this and went digging for the full questionnaire. A new year of GYWO starts today and true to form I’m too tired to get any actual writing done, so time to reminisce it is!

Learned Society of Pirates Book Swap 2022
Coming in 2023: I don’t want to make promises, ever, because projects die and get born on me all the time, but I am hoping for Leggy Blonde 3 to write itself, please, and the vianton sequel that covers the other half of the plotbunny if possible, and maybe mumble mumble something band AU if that ever evolves beyond me writing fake lore.
Knowing me, it’ll probably be none of these things.
Since I didn’t get tagged, I’m not going to tag anyone either, but I would love to see any of my writer and artistically gifted friends do it if they want!
