my pacific rim novelisation came in mail a few weeks ago and i've been reading it here and there on my way home from classes, and let me tell you something. in the movie during the gypsy danger test where mako and raleigh drift for the first time, tendo, herc and chuck stay in the loccent at the end when shit gets down. but in the book, chuck isn't there and i find it so much better that they put him there in the movie. it feels weird with just herc and tendo there, idk. esp since in the beginning of the scene chuck was there as well, so it seems like he ran out like the rest and i find it very out of character for him

Why tf do people have a problem with Gipsy Danger/Avengers name?
Its an old story at this point, Gipsy sounds a lot like a racial slur, which is usually disproved by it being after De Havilland Gipsy, a WW2 british engine plane.
But even then, some people still have a problem with it. Saying they dont care that it may still be offensive to people.
Today, I tell you why this is dumb. I have two main points, number 1 is the fact we dont call Cherno Alpha anything different. Cherno literally means black, and I cant help but think how there is no supposed racial undertext for the most barbaric, heavy-duty and bulky mech we see, which is literally called Black Alpha. Hell I麓d make a case for Crimson Typhoon being a suspiciously culturally appropriating concept. I mean, Asian triplets, piloting a sleek, relatively weak, quite weaponry reliant mech that ends up dead first? That sounds like something a 50 year old Polish man in Wzerovczazno would write as a story for his grandkid.
My number 2 would then be that Gipsy literally saves all of humanity. If there was a racial undertext to this, wouldn麓t the mech be something much less? Wouldn麓t it be a futile death?聽
Thank you for listening to a few dozen words of me ranting.
