Hey guys if someone can help me out with this:
So lately I have seen some posts saying it was because of Feyre's name that Valkyries were not hunted down by illyrians except ones send by briylln during the Blood Rite.
I remember Balthazar helping them with the cave but can someone give me canon proof that this happened and other Illyrians ignore the Valkyries completely.

Refresh/Remind me with fanon & canon as I reread please and have so many questions after finishing all of ACOTAR (onto TOG & CC next)
~ ACOTAR WORLD ~
— Were all the high lords except for Tamlin previously captured & trapped for all 50 years?
— What was the Night Court doing while Rhys was UTM?
— Is Mor’s power truth (if so, how does that work)?
— Did Rhys know Clare Beddor was a real person or did he think it was a fake name? (Couldn’t he read Feyre’s mind the whole time)?
— Were Rhys first words post UTM to Mor “she’s my mate”?
— Whatever happened to the child of the blessed Briar girl that Feyre saved?👀
— Is there any more canon than the single “she’s beautiful”🥹 Mor x Emerie scenes? Are they mates?
— Does Cassian ever ACTUALLY say “I love you” to Nesta?😭
— Was Nesta “technically” a witch when she had stolen Cauldron powers?
— Is Gwyn Azriel’s mate (Canon or Fanon)?
— Is Gwyn’s full name Gwyneth Berdera?
— Is their currently a High Priestess (or did they start a new rule post Ianthe)?
— Does Rhys, Cassian, or Azriel have a last name?
— Does Tamlin have a mate?
— Is Bryce from Crescent City (or is she a fan-made character)? / Is Bryce the same as Bryaxis? *If this is a major spoiler please don’t answer as I’m reading Crescent City and Throne of Glass next. 😅🤣 lol*
— What decides what the Bone Carver appears to you as?
… Thing to save you, Worst fear, Thing that will destroy you? Etc.
And what does it appear to each character as (Cassian especially)? — Along with what does Cassian see Bryaxis as?
— Speaking of… WHERE THE HECK IS BRYAXIS? How will Feyre get her😅 … Is that bargain technically broken (can bargains even be broken) if so, could she (and therefore Rhys) die from it??
— What/Who gave Cassian the chest, heart, and throat scar?😬
— Can mates be unrequited, ignored, once in a lifetime, multiple, platonic, etc.
Could for instance: Elain be Lucien’s mate, but Elain’s mate be Azriel, and Azriel’s mate be Gwyn? *or Lucien having a second mate in Elain after his tragic first love (can’t remember if his autumn court lover was his “mate” or not).
— Who holds the title “Queen of Queens” (is this fan given?) I’ve seen it both with Nesta & Mor and I’m quite curious in each characters “Court” story/placement.
— Can you rule a Court without being an Heir/Spouse? (though Feyre totally earned it, honestly it was more like an overdo promotion, so NOT saying she “JUST MARRIED HER WAY IN IN” to be clear)… More like: Could Lucien (being a double sided illegitimate son) be given the reigns to Spring Court (if Tamlin died, retired, was exiled, or goes into the intensive therapy that he so desperately needs)… In that could Elain then become High Lady of Spring Court (or just be given it or “Mother” chosen for her own character (mate aside)); cause she has the vibe (plus it would be cool triad yin-yang with a sister of night, another of death (and now mother given power… so life? … Is Nesta now life & death?) and the last being her (Elain) & of spring (it would have real Mother Nature / Persephone vibes).

Honestly where is the vassian community?? Where are the pro-Luciens that want him to be TRULY happy (I.e. not with a mate who cannot stand him but rather with someone who will give him the love he deserves??)
Eluciens and Gwynriels have formed this sort of alliance (since neither cares about Elain’s happiness), as Azriel being with Gwyn would leave Elain free for Lucien (*snort*), and Elain being with Lucien (officially) would put an end to Azriel & Elain. (Note how I didn’t say it would leave Azriel free for Gwyn bc THERE HAS BEEN NO HINT THAT GWYN EVEN WANTS THIS MAN??)
If the elriel ship were built as poorly as theirs it would make so much sense to full-send rile up the Vassians and get them on board.
And while we’re at it, find some random ass character to ship with Gwyn (Balthazar, that two-page-mention Illyrian dude seems fit for her based on … absolutely nothing… which is basically what gwynriel ship was built with so that will work for them!!) though let’s be honest she’s not even an MC so why even bother setting her up with someone?
Elucien as a ship I can understand, if people are desperate to cling to the “they’re mates” thing. That I will accept and agree with.
Gwynriel has NOTHING? Where did this ship even come from?? I’m literally about to start a full fledged Gwyn-Balthazar ship train (how do we feel about Gwynbalth Paltrow?? Balthazara? Well Balthazar is ALMOST exactly like Berdera so omg it’s MEANT TO BE!!
Also Balthazar also is Illyrian so Gwyn can have his babies with her extra super pliant bones?? ANOTHER CLUE?? Sarah… you ain’t slick girl we’re onto you!!
Vassien never took off, because Elucien is a lot more loud and with Vassien it's less about Lucien, and more about the two of them, so that automatically doesn't deserve as much attention in this fandom. Furthermore, it doesn't stop Elriel from happening, so Gwynriels are not going to be into it at all.
Gwynriel is an offshoot of the Emeriel ship which existed after Emerie was introduced in ACOFAS. Once it because fairly clear that Emerie is probably into women, Gwyn replaced her in the pantheon of Azriel related ships.
Ultimately, Gwyn is just as replaceable as anyone, because the ship isnt about her, but about Azriel. And how his fans can self-insert and I dunno...marry him? Something like that.
Eluciens will become Vassiens in the end, especially if their precious Lucien doesn't go crazy and will turn Vassa somehow immortal.

Anti's are trying to turn Gwyn into an evil lightsinger because of ships instead of realizing that she could end up having a pretty amazing journey being a Siren of the Sea.
“Rumor claimed she dumped one into the sea. It would not come to Amarantha’s hand, nor the hands of any of her commanders, and rather than let the King of Hybern attain it, she disposed of it.”
I only heard from a fleeing water-nymph that it had been done.” “Narben was even older than Gwydion,” Rhys said. “Where the hell was it?” “I don’t know, but she found it, and when it would not bend to her, she destroyed it. As she did all good things.” / "It was perhaps in our favor. Had the King of Hybern possessed Narben, I fear we would have lost the war.”
Narben’s powers had not been the holy, savior’s light of Gwydion, but ones far darker. “I can’t believe that witch threw it into the sea,” Cassian said.
Who knows if she actually found Narben? Even if it would not obey her, she’d have been a fool to throw it away.”
There are no magic weapons left. None. They were either lost or destroyed or dumped in the sea
GWYNETH BERDERA
It fluttered with light, like the sun on a shallow sea.
Gwyn gestured to her large eyes—blue so clear it could have been the shallow sea—
Gwyn whispered, “I am the rock against which the surf crashes.” Nesta straightened at the words, as if they were a prayer and a summons
Gwyn’s eyes shone, like the sunlight on a warm sea.
And when Gwyn reached the finish line, bloody and panting and grinning so wildly her teal eyes glowed like a sunlit sea
Gwyn’s hair seemed to glow brighter with her song, skin radiating a beckoning light. Drawing any listener in.
Something beckoned in Gwyn’s song, in a way the others’ hadn’t. Like Gwyn was calling only to her.
Gwyn’s voice rose again, holding such a high note it was like a ray of pure light, piercing and summoning.
Also 🤯
What if Cassian's first Solstice gift to Nesta is going to make a reappearance, pulled from the sea by Gwyn, and will contain important information regarding their history?!
He’d kept her present in his pocket, saving it to give to her in private later. He’d done the same last year, and the damn thing had ended up at the bottom of the Sidra. Probably swept out to sea. He’d spent months tracking down the book, so tiny it would fit in a doll’s hands, but so precious it had cost him an indecent amount of money. A miniature illuminated manuscript, crafted by the skilled hands of the smallest of the lesser Fae—one of the first printed books in existence. It hadn’t been meant for reading—but he’d figured that someone who adored books as much as Nesta would savor this piece of history.

I just randomly remembered the night light podcast and it made me cackle hahaha can we bring this back?
Oh hell yeah 😌
For the month of March, our very smart and very attractive hosts celebrate Women's History Month by inviting all the amazing women they know and highlighting their amazing lives.
Mor's episode focuses on her experience as a fashion icon in the fashion industry. (They bring up her ~love life~ and *cough* Emerie and Mor gets flustered she straight up curses them out)
Emerie's episode focuses on her experience as a local business woman. (They make one mention of Mor and all she does is stare at them silently for five solid minutes until they change the subject)
Gwyn's episode focuses on her experience as a history professor and her research findings on the history of Prythian. (Az is sitting in the studio with them, mildly translating when Gwyn starts talking too fast in her excitement lol)
Elain's episode focuses on her experience as a horticulture therapist. (Lucien flirts with her so obnoxiously)
Nesta's episode focuses on healing through finding yourself and her physical fitness program. (Cassian is disgusting flirting with Nesta)
Feyre's episode focuses on art therapy and the art program she runs at the local college. (Rhys joins Feyre but Feyre, Lucien, and Cassian just roast his ass as the ending segment)
Amren only comes on to roast Lucien and Cassian but the boys get her talking about her jewelry collection and how she finds the most valuable jewels. (Varian was invited along to remind her to be nice)
Vassa's episode focuses on her empire of businesses she built from the ground up after being shunned by her family. (Jurian was only allowed to join if him and Lucien didn't giggle and make annoying jokes)
They talked about their favorite romance reads written by women, women who inspire them, and their favorite way to bring their women bliss 😏

Just Look: Gwynriel One Shot
Azriel looked around the ring, and blushed ferociously. She was the weirdest person that he had ever met, and he was absolutely obsessed with her. Emerie and Mor were currently sparring in the middle of the training area, and Gwyn stood to the side chanting, “Baby Pegasus! Baby Pegasus!” like it was a battle cry. Azriel looked to Nesta and Cassian who stood beside her, and noticed that their mouths were moving too. The shape of the chant echoing on their lips as well. At least this was better than last month’s insistence of bowing to the house every time she properly executed a maneuver because the house was “rooting for her”.
Azriel didn’t understand how someone who was so academic could be so…quirky. Gwyneth Berdera could recite the entire Book of the East and name ever mammal who lived in the Adriata in alphabetical order, but will insist on the house conjuring a baby Pegasus for their monthly Valkyrie meetings.
Azriel watches as the two women in the ring circle each other, and he knows that it is almost over. Since the two were mated, neither Emerie nor Mor can keep their hands off of each other, especially not in the middle of a fight. Azriel watches Mor and hopes that she goes low and tries to tip Emerie to the left, her weaker side, but one smile from Emerie at the wrong time and Mor misses her chance. Emerie sweeps her leg, and Mor is on the ground. Emerie, instead of helping her get to her feet, stoops down and kisses Mor on her sweaty cheek.
Azriel stiffens. It’s not that he isn’t happy for Mor because he is. And it’s not that he feels entitled to her time and affection anymore now that she told him the truth, but he still feels a little tug in his stomach when he sees one of his family with their mates. And before he can stop the thought, it sounds. Why can’t that be you?
His shadows flare in response to the intrusive thought.
“Just look,” they say. “Just look.” Azriel tells them that he has had enough of perfect couples for the day, and that he will keep his eyes on the ground where they belong.
“All right,” he hears his brother say, and Cassian is clapping his hands.
“We have time for one more match. Gwyn,” he ushers her into the ring. “Who is going to take a beating at the hands of the death priestess.”
“Ugg,” Nesta exclaims. “That’s worse than Silver Majesty or Fleet Footed Firehead.”
Cassian looks perturbed. “Hey.. it’s not as easy finding nicknames for everyone else as it was for you, sweetheart.”
Nesta doesn’t blush, but she does give his brother a smile that says, “Keeping being a sap, and I’m going to kiss that smirk off your face.”
“So, Gwyn,” Mor says, breaking the Nessian staring contest before it can properly begin. “Who will it be?” Mor looks around the training ground, and more than one person looks eager for a little more training. Gwyn surveys them all, and Nesta nearly steps into the ring when the priestess exclaims, “Azriel.”
Azriel’s eyes snap up to meet her teal ones, and he says, “I’m not really up for it right now, Gwyn. I was just about to head inside.” While actually he was going to do some more knife work, but now he has to go inside or else he’s a liar, and while spying is his profession by trade, and he has lied when he has too to whomever he has too, it feels wrong lying to Gwyn.
“Scared, Shadowsinger?” Gwyn asks, and everyone chuckles.
Did he mention that while she was completely nuts and extremely intelligent that she was also damn cocky. He was sure that he had never been as cocky as she is, and he was the one who had the anatomy.
“Fine,” he says while walking toward the training ring. He removes his armor as he goes, and grabs one of the duller practice swords for this encounter. He doesn’t want to hurt her after all. This is just supposed to be about learning. But when he steps into the ring, the look in Gwyn’s eyes says that he’s the one who is about to get the lesson.
Cassian moves to the middle of the ring, and stands between them. He holds up a ribbon, and prepares to drop it, signaling the beginning of the fight. The ribbon is barely out of his hand when Gwyn takes her first strike. She moves so quickly that it almost catches Az off guard. Almost. He has been a warrior for 500 years. He isn’t going to go down to someone who has only been training for less than a year, top level Illyrian warrior or not.
The two trade a couple of blows when Azriel’s shadows start to shift. Normally, he can keep them locked tight, during fights and otherwise, but now its like they have been let off their leash.
           And they are protecting her.
When Azriel moves to make a match ending blow, his shadows rear up and block Gwyn from his view. He tries to force them back, but each time he tries they only whisper to him, “Just look. Just look.”
Look at what? He wants to scream. But he can’t start talking to his shadows now. Then he would be the crazy one.
The shadows clear for an instant, and he sees her again in the peripheral of his vision. She is going for his blind spot. Azriel spins around with 500 years of training, and goes low, like he thought Mor was going to do, but before his blade can reach Gwyn, his shadows envelop his scarred hands and the blade is tipped out of his hand.
Gwyn takes advantage, and sweeps his leg. Azriel hits the ground hard, and Gwyn is on top of him. Blade at his throat, Azriel knows that he has lost. And yet, his shadows have not dispersed. They wrap around the pair of them like a wall. They can’t see out, and Azriel is sure that no one else can see in. Gwyn stands above him, a radiant smile on her face, her blade at his neck, and damn she is beautiful. Red hair blowing and mixing with his shadows. There is light in her eyes and something more.
Azriel wants to reach up and touch her face. He wants to rub a thumb along her cheek, and touch her hair. He wants too..
“Just look. Just look,” his shadows say again. And this time Azriel does.
Gwyn pulls her sword back from his neck, and she smiles down at him as his shadows wrap around her once, twice before dispelling.
The rest of the people in the ring are clapping wildly, most likely in proud admiration of seeing Gwyn win but also in satisfaction of seeing his cocky ass take a hit for once. His brother looks particularly pleased, and Az is glad that Rhys and Feyre aren’t here to witness this too.
Gwyn smirks at him, and then reaches out her hand.
Azriel doesn’t hesitate to put his hand into her own. He gets to his feet, and says, “Good match.”
Gwyn laughs. “It’s all about the mantra. Baby Pegasus. Baby Pegasus.”
Azriel smiles, and realizes that he hasn’t let go of her hand, and more so, that he doesn’t want too.
Then he too, joins the cult, “Tell me more about the Pegasuses.”
Gwyn sends him another smile, and Azriel feels another pull in his stomach, this one unlike the rest. And he’s completely okay with that.

Morning Yaz!
Sometimes I wonder if Gwyn's ancestry is actually that big of a deal. I know people believe Berdera is a family name from her mother's side but maybe the reason Sarah gave Gwyn a last name at all was to let us know that her father and grandfather aren't really that important and can't be Eris or Beron.
Morning "not really anymore haha" anon🤍
I can't see Gwyn not having a significant connection to the Vanserras because of this. I think Berdara is a cover up for... Vanserra? If it's the last name of Gwyn's mother? They kind of rhyme the same too?
There is only one Forest House in Autumn Court.

Well apparently Azriel does not show his hands to IC or Elain because he cares about them and with Gwyn he does not need to hide his hands because she means nothing to him.

Everyday they come up with something new I swear.

tog x acotar x cc shipping (going by compatibility not sexuality)
feyre x aelin-look I know. but hear me out. at first they think they should get a long but they don’t. and eventually they just are “I really don’t want to spend time with this person literally ever” but they are forced to get to know each other. find out they work really well together and fall in love
rhys x fenrys-they’re the couple that starts out as friends but are constantly flirting with each other so that you can’t tell if they are a couple or best friends. they both accidentally fall in love with each other but refuse to do anything until a mutual friend helps them out
nesta x manon- (they won’t all be gay. or maybe they will) they both need someone to match them in ferocity and wit. and well this would be the rivals to lovers match from heaven.
elain x choal-introvert meets introvert. the dancing around each other. the blushing. the softness. but the sex is not nearly as soft as their relationship
azriel x lysandra-lysandra is going to flirt the shit out of azriel. she’s going to tease and make him blush and enjoy every minute of it. eventually he’s going to semi aggressively pull her in for a kiss and she’s going to be surprised and then smirk like took you long enough
cassian x hunt- cassian would flirt and hunt would be like shut the fuck up. but then eventually hunt will flirt back to cassians delight. and the rest is history
mor x fury-every lesbian couple looks like them. light/dark mother fuckers. also definitely enemies to lovers.
gwyn x dorian-they would have the most shenanigans to every exist. like they would be cece and winston (bishop) if they were a couple. gwyn and dorian mess around. and the sex would be hot
gwyn x bryce-what I never said I couldn’t do more then one for each person. feisty golden retriever gf meets flirty bold gf
emerie x elide-idk I just have a feeling it would work
rowan x lucien-what? we know rowan has a thing for people with fire in their veins. sly fox meets broody warrior. and let’s be honest rowan definitely needs some fire dick
lorcan x hypaxia-why not🤷‍♀️
eris x fenrys- I see this going as eris would be doing his sneaky shit and eventually fenrys would make him choose. but obviously eris is going to choose him over power

gwynriel first kiss one shot
Close, she was so damn close. He needed to get a grip, she was not just some random lover who he enjoyed from time to time, this was Gwyn and they were busy.
She lay sprawled on the couch with her feet in his lap and a book in her hand. He had one in his own and together they were researching the history of narben and other powerful swords embedded with magic. Azriel’s eyes were glued to the page but he couldn’t seem to manage more than a few words before a new unwanted thought plagued his mind like a parasite he could not rid himself of. I want to kiss her.
Internally he scolded himself, Gwyn was not his nor would she ever be. He had been present on the worst day of her life, the rage he felt then was unlike the cold ice that ran beneath his skin, ever-present, but a burning fiery hatred fueled by a need he did not understand. He was a living reminder of the trauma that burdened her. Azriel could not blame her if she never wanted to be around another man again, she had been violated in a way that he would not wish on his worst enemies. She likes being around you. The whispers crept up his skin like a cool breeze, the feeling had long since lost its shock, but Azriel still felt the urge to shiver. He watched as a lone shadow darted out and entwined itself in Gwyn’s hair, the smokey blackness contrasting her metallic red hair. Gwyn put her book down, and the broad smile that bloomed on her face stole the air from his lungs. She tipped her head back, letting her pin-straight locks fall across her shoulders, and laughed. Her laugh was a contagious, lovely sound, and Azriel couldn’t help letting out a soft chuckle of his own.
“I like you when you laugh,” Gwyn announced, looking up at him.
“You always like me,” He responded with a quirked brow.
“Yeah well,” she conceded “I like you more when you’re not brooding your ass off.” He feigned mock hurt, putting his hands to his chest like he’d been stabbed. Gwyn rolled her eyes, but he could see her trying to hide her smile. “Drama queen,” she muttered, shaking her head. Not bothering to respond to the rude comment, he pulled the pillow out from underneath him and threw it at her. Gwyn’s eyes widened as it hit her smack in the face, mouth dropping in shock, and he knew immediately he was going to pay for it. That didn’t stop him from grinning at her.
“Come on berdera, better get to reading,” he winked at her, knowing she would see red.
“Okay shadowsinger,” She drawled, “Although,” her silence intentional, “I wouldn’t want you trying to pick a fight you couldn’t win.” The innocence in her tone a stark contrast to the vengeance in her teal eyes.
“Is that a threat, priestess.”
“Oh you’re big boy, I think you can figure it out.” Her smirk was wicked as she picked up the book and began to read. Shit, he wanted to kiss her even more now. Pathetic he was absolutely pathetic. Realizing it was too late to respond, Azriel picked up his own book and began to read. Alright, he thought, point Berdara.
They continued to read, tearing through the pages, a silent challenge in the air. Who would finish first? Every so often, Azriel looked up to see Gwyn immersed in her reading, her determination almost enough to make him forget he was a sitting target, almost. Her legs moved from his lap, and immediately he felt like he was missing something, their weight and warmth gone. Her gaze caught his, and they stayed in silence for a moment, taking each other in.
Finally, Gwyn broke “What?” She tilted her head, looking at him curiously. Point az.
“You’re cute when you read” Azriel wished he could say he didn’t enjoy the blush that flooded Gwyn’s cheeks but he absolutely delighted in it. Point az.
“Flattery will get you nowhere.” Her nose scrunching.
“Oh, I disagree, it’s worked so far.”
“yeah,” Gwyn replied with an amused look. “On who.”
“Well, we both know you’re in love with me so I would assume you.” Fuck, why did he say that? Azriel’s heart was a drum in his chest, his palms began to sweat. This damn girl, 500 years, and this is the girl that has him tripping over his words. It felt like minutes before she answered again even if it had only been seconds.
“Yes, I’m just so damn in love with you.” He could hear the sarcasm dripping in her voice, he could see the way she rolled her eyes, smiling, and yet he couldn’t help the way his breath hitched, or the heat he felt on his neck. “You know I love researching long-lost magical swords as much as the next person,” She put her book down and stretched her arms out behind her. “But I’m getting kind of tire-.” A yawn cut Gwyn off proving her point.
“Well we can’t have that,” He stood up, an idea taking root. He held out a hand to her. With a curious look, she slipped her hand into his, an electric shock ran through them where skin met skin. He shivered, the moment felt so much more intimate than it should have been, an easiness between them. Yet Azriel felt only heat as their gazes met. Gwyn bit her lip.
“Are we going somewhere,” She whispered, not daring to look away.
“I always find that a little adventure is a perfect way to wake yourself up,” forcing himself to keep his voice steady. Their hands still locked together. Gwyn took a step closer, so they were almost touching. He swallowed as her eyes burned into his own. Slowly, ever so slowly he brought his hand to her cheek, and with a whisper of a touch, he tilted her head and brushed away a small piece of dirt. She shuddered and leaned in. Both of their breathing heavy, he should move, this was wrong. But then why did it feel so right? His thoughts vanished, as her eyes lowered to his lips. A quick glance, there and then gone. Everything else forgotten except the feel of her.
At that moment a small thud caused both of them to flinch. Gwyn looked away and Az followed her gaze to the book that had fallen. He dropped his hand and immediately wished he hadn’t. With the noise came a wave washing over them, cooling the heat. Good, he thought, good now he can’t do something he would regret. Azriel just wished he believed himself. Gwyn turned back to him, but her eyes would not meet his. Dammit, he fucking made her uncomfortable. Shit shit shit. His shadows began to whisper, don’t freak out just talk to her. Just talk to her, just talk to her. He could do that, just talk to her. He plastered a teasing grin to his face, “well If I know Gwyneth Berdera, and I do, she is not one to pass up an adventure so, shall we?”
She gave him an awkward smile. He could see the relief in the way her features relaxed, but from what, he wasn’t exactly sure. She took a breath, regaining her composure. “Oh you know I love a good time, but I tend to like to know where I’m going.” Thank the cauldron, Azriel thought, right back into their banter. He didn’t think he could live with himself if she never spoke to him again, and the thought was terrifying.
“It’s a surprise.” Her brows rose as if to say really? “Do you trust me?” the words were out before he realized what he was saying, he wished he could take them back. He desperately needed to know the answer. And shit he still wanted to kiss her.
Without hesitation, Gwyn said “Yes,” Something broke in Azriel, and something else, without meaning to, began to mend.
“Good, then trust that you will love it.”
Gwyn thought it over before deciding “well it must be better than reading about ancient swords.”
“Oh, it will be.” He started to walk towards the door and she followed him, Azriel made sure to keep at least a foot away, but he couldn’t shake the pull, begging him to get closer. Once they were outside, he turned to her and held out his arms.
“So this is a flying trip?”
“I mean unless you would like to winnow, but this is typically my way of transportation.” She rolled her eyes at him but didn’t respond as she wrapped her hands around his neck and he picked her up. So together they flew into the night.
About half an hour later they had reached their destination. Outside of Velaris, but still within the night court, Azriel had brought them to one of the tallest towers he’d ever seen. It was kind of in the middle of nowhere, hidden by lush greenery, framed by mountains and lakes. He had found it a few centuries ago and never shared the information with any of his friends. He loved them dearly, but this always felt like a spot he could go if he needed to leave, to be alone. It also helped that the view was beautiful. But he was looking at Gwyn and saw the exact moment she realized where they were, her eyes lit up, and he could see the challenge in her grasp, one she couldn’t stop until she bested it. “Is this-” Her voice could barely contain her excitement and he loved that he could give her that. He knew in his gut there was no limit to what he would do to make her smile.
“It is,” he confirmed. The library was a myth, a legend said to rival the ones in the day court. Of course, it was more ruins now, but still a sight to behold. “And while I know that you are freaking out, and I am happy to take you back so you can explore the inside, we are here for the roof.” Gwyn gave him a questioning glance but he just winked and shot up the length of the tower to the top. She gave a yelp of surprise, and then a cry of excitement.
Azriel set them down on the roof and looked around. Every time he came back, the memory could not ever compare to the real thing. But he was watching Gwyn as she took it all in. The beauty of it rivaled only by the female in front of him. The land was vast. “Look up,” he said softly, and then she saw the true view. Somehow the stars seemed to hang lower in the sky, they were bigger and brighter. The moon, so close it appeared as if you could reach out to touch it. Colors of purple, blue, and green swirling in an array that stole the breath with no intention of ever giving it back. Azriel didn’t know why you could only see it from the tower but he didn’t care. Gwyn took everything in with a greedy desire like it would disappear if she didn’t. The irony was not lost on him, she looked at the open world the way he knew he looked at her.
Gwyn’s metallic hair lit up against the moon as if it was on fire. “It’s beautiful” Yeah she was. “No, that does not nearly begin to describe it,” she tried to find the words and he waited patiently. “There is this entire world that I have not seen, that I have not experienced. And every little taste I get of it makes me greedy for more, and I am terrified,” she paused, “I am terrified that my past and my own fear will prevent me from seeing everything. I want it all but I do not know if I am brave enough to take the next step”
They stood side by side, both clutching the railing. He gently grabbed her hand and stroked his thumb over their shared tattoo before he spoke.”no challenge has ever been too great for you, because where others give up Gwyneth Berdera, with her stubborn determination has never known when stop.” and that’s what I love about you, he wanted to add, but instead he said “And whether it be tomorrow, a few months, or centuries when you are ready, I will make sure you experience every joy this world has to offer.”
They stood in silence for a couple of moments before she gave him a small smile. “Az?”
“Yeah?”
“Why did you bring me here?” why did he bring her here? You know why his shadows answered.
“Because,” He took a deep breath, “Because this place has always been a sanctuary for me, the only place I could go where my head would quiet, where the voices would stop for not even they could mar the beauty of this place.” He swallowed. “I was in love, or what I thought was love, with a female for 500 years, and not even she gave me the ease that being here provided. Not once did I wish to share this place with anyone, the one thing that was mine and only mine.” He turned to Gwyn, “that is until I met you and I didn’t understand it, why being near you made me feel more peace then I have ever felt in 5 centuries. Why the cold icy rage that has always been there only began to thaw in your presence.” He let out a little laugh, “and because there is nothing I wouldn’t do to see you smile.” Gwyn flashed him her broad smile. “That’s the one.” He murmured.
She took a step closer, bridging the gap between them. The view forgotten, there was only Gwyn and Azriel, two souls finding each other in the midst of darkness. He took a step too, meeting her halfway, so close he could feel her breath. Gwyn looked up at him, her gaze full of hope and something else he couldn’t detect. They took each other in, devouring the sight of one another. One moment, one step could change everything.
Moments passed, their breathing heavy before Gwyn said “Az?”
“Yeah?”
“Why won’t you kiss me?”
“Because,” he whispered, “I can’t bear the thought of losing you-” and the look she gave him as if he was the dumbest person in the world.
“Azriel?”
“Yeah?”
“Shut up,” and she took that final step, braved the distance, and pulled his face towards her. Their lips met in a blaze, a kiss that should have been soft and sweet, instead an explosion of heat and passion. Fireworks formed everywhere they touched, her hands lost in his hair, and his own gripped around her waist. She was everything he dreamed and more, a kiss unlike one he’s ever known. Azriel softly bit her lip and the sound she made was enough to make him want to rip apart the world to hear it again. Together, they were unbreakable, a rightness in the air that could not be imagined. Her lips claimed his, with a ferocity of need. Electricity thundered beneath his skin, her kiss igniting something in him he never knew was there. She was his, and he was hers. Mine.
Gwyn finally took a step back, “wow” she whispered and he knew she felt it too. Her skin was flush with a subtle glow and the realization hit him. The thought engraved itself in his brain and heart and soul, and he never knew how he hadn’t seen it before. Mate.
may or may not be continued where gwyn gets revenge
