Tags: angst, hurt/comfort, worry, injury, superhero work, late night talks, fear of loss, soothing kisses, crying
A/N: We need to keep things nice and balanced between the fluff, smut and angst.
5. “Don’t you ever do that again!”
Peter doesn't take as many risks as he used to before you were married. He still gives it his all, of course he does, but he's not reckless when he fights. There does tend to be an ocassion where he will act like that still, come home with injuries, a bloody nose and such but he tries to keep those to a minimum to not worry you. He faces your wrath for those before, and he would rather fight a hundread more enemies then make you sad, angry and scared for him.
Miles already knows to be careful when doing hero work but he is also a bit of a show off. He makes it a habit to visit you after and one night he shows up in a pretty bad state, unable to go home. You call his parents and make up an excuse that he fell asleep during movie night, all the while he's groaning with an ice pack on his ribs. While laughing about a joke he made his ribs hurt even more so you have to kiss him to make him stop, and to comfort yourself. While his injuries will heal he needs to promise to be more careful, one Spider-man already died in this universe, and your boyfriend won't be next.
Gwen lost someone imortant because she wasn't paying enough attention. You bet she gets pissed off when she sees you jumping head first into danger. But she doesn't just yell, she starts crying while patching up your injuries because she can't handle the thought of losing you. It ends with you being the one who is holding her in your lap, kissing her cheeks with bruised lips telling her how she's your inspiration for doing what you do, you don't regret it and a few injuries, big or small, won't stop you from being her best partner.
Miguel downplays his own injuries but goes off when he sees you put yourself in danger. He's a big guy, he heals pretty fast too but you, fully human and so damn hardheaded. How can he not tell you to take it easy from time to time. You laying in bed with a fever from a venom that you took instead of him. Venom, something that's already in his blood, reckless as hell. Every kiss that he gives you is like the last, his hands fast as they check you for injuries but really gentle, like you'll break in his hands.
Hobie hums a song while you patch his injuries trying to soothe you, his fingers tapping on the bed, foot moving along with his hums. Not a single note back? Why are you so upset? His life isn't in danger or anything, he' ll be fine. Or you can kiss it better, that's an option. Anything, just cry okay? He's proud of the work he's doing, risks are part of it, but its worth it to make a better, safer world for the two of you, and everyone else of course.
Pavitr has a hard time keeping his groans of pain to himself but he doesn't wanna worry you any more then he already has. He wraps his arms around you and pulls you to his side, whispering that he's gonna be okay eventually. Until then he will take it easy so don't yell at him again, he knows he should have been more careful but at times his body moves on his own without thinking. Kinda like when he kisses you, only more painful.

as summer's hot embrace swept across queens, whispers of anticipation filled the air in midtown high.
the arrival of prom.
the streets adorned themselves with vibrant hues of gold and scarlet, echoing the spirit of the season that gripped the hearts of every new yorker. decorative banners danced in the breeze on campus, proudly displaying the school's emblem as a symbol of community pride. the heat and constant air conditioning mingled with the distant sound of a marching band practicing their lively tunes, weaving a tapestry of nostalgia and excitement for all the locals and alumni.
prom, a cherished tradition to no one but the beckoned who peaked in high school. let’s be real here, what teen beside the tryhard kids trying to form the perfect resume for college genuinely cared for homecoming? nah, not one. the only excitement that came from it was being able to get free food, dress cute, some photo ops with your partner, and just hanging out with your friends. you could technically count the performances by the school bands and dance teams but to be honest all the talent was overshadowed by the patriotic midtown chants praising the school for its community and kindness even though you could’ve swore you saw flash thompson trying to beat on some freshman in the hall the other day.
it’s midtown high… mid is in the name. to be quite honest, you weren’t expecting much. you didn’t even have a date in mind, you just knew you’d end up going with your small friend group consisting of your best friend gwen, peter, and harry.
you were brought back to reality when your teacher pulled an ‘i’ll wait’ on some girl in the front who was just as confused as the rest of the class and was simply asking someone else for help.
as the minutes ticked by in the seemingly endless ap english class, the only escape you found was talking gwen during class to keep you sane.
you leaned towards gwen, a mischievous glint in your eyes. "i feel like i’m trapped in a literary prison. is it just me, or does every sentence, as soon as she opens her mouth, sounds like some philosophy subreddit bullshit?"
gwen stifled a giggle, her eyes sparkling with shared amusement. "oh, trust me, it's not just you. i think i've somehow deciphered the hidden meaning behind every comma in this book. it's like we're on a quest for the nonexistent holy grail of english assignments."
you both burst into a fit of laughter, struggling to contain your amusement while keeping a watchful eye on the teacher. the irony of the situation wasn't lost on you— the passionate exploration of language and literature reduced to a burdensome chore.
however, you couldn’t help but feel a pair of jealous eyes on you. the prickling sensation at your neck coming from the back of the class made you turn your head slightly, and you caught a glimpse of harry's eyes fixed on gwen, his expression tinged with jealousy. his lips pressed together in a tight line as he bit down on them, lost in his thoughts to notice that you caught him looking. he seemed almost irritated at you by the way he stared and to your understanding, for no reason. it’s not like you did any sneak shit behind his back or got on his nerves .
caught in the awkwardness of the moment, harry mustered a teasing smile and gave a nod, as if attempting to play off being caught. the nod was like a silent statement from him to you, that he felt the same way you did in the class. bored as hell.
but beneath the facade, the tension simmered, and you couldn't shake the feeling that something deeper was brewing beneath the surface. questions swirled in your mind, but for now, you chose to let it go and return your focus to gwen.
"this class single handedly ruined how i’ll read for the rest of my life, and you know how much i love to read edgar allen poe," you whispered, barely able to contain your sarcasm.
gwen leaned closer, her voice barely audible. "i swear, if i have to dissect one more sonnet, my brain cells will start killing themselves."
the bell's sudden ring startled both of you, cutting short your whispered complaints and signaling the end of yet another mundane class. you exchanged a knowing look, relief and mischief dancing in both your eyes.
"finally, damn!" you exclaimed under your breath. "let's get out of here before we start speaking in iambic pentameter."
gwen nodded, her lips curled into a smile. "i can't wait another second."
together, you gathered your belongings, trying to suppress the lingering laughter that threatened to bubble. as you made your way towards the door, the teacher's eyes scanned the room, momentarily pausing on your mischievous glances, but quickly moving on.
you were about to respond to her joke when harry osborn approached you two with a slightly hesitant yet determined stride. his sudden interruption caught both of you off guard.
"hey, gwen," harry began, his voice shaky. "can we talk for a minute?"
your curiosity piqued, but you gave gwen an understanding look and assured gwen that you would wait for her at the lockers, giving her a reassuring smile. with a nod, she followed harry to a quieter corner of the hallway, leaving you to be nosy and wonder what the conversation could be about. time seemed to stretch as you leaned against the lockers, the echoes of passing students fading into the background.
minutes turned into an eternity before gwen finally emerged from the conversation, as she walked toward you, you could sense the weight of the conversation hanging in the air. without a word, she shook her head, her eyes filled with unspoken thoughts.
"what did harry want? some chemistry homework answers that been due since last week?" you asked playfully, trying not to make it seem like you were praying for information.
it’s not like you were jealous of harry or envious of him for talking to gwen, you knew where you two stood. but just the way he looked at you? just rubbed you the wrong way. and you couldn't lie and say the curiosity wasn’t killing you as to why he had to pull gwen away from the public to just ‘talk to her.’
gwen's eyes met yours, looking unusually reserved. she hesitated for a moment before responding, her voice barely above a whisper. "it’s nothing, really. he just asked me a stupid question. don’t worry about it."
you left it at that, not wanting to force her into talking about something that was clearly private. you respected her desire to just move on. still, a teasing smile tugged at the corners of your lips as you couldn't resist a teasing remark.
"did he ask you to be his secret prom date?" you quipped, a twinkle of mischief in your eyes.
gwen's face turned pale for a moment before her cheeks flushed slightly as she shook her head, a subtle smile gracing her lips. "no, you couldn’t be farther from the truth. i um… i actually have someone in mind."
you felt your cheeks heat up at her comment, but also a gut wrenching feeling in your stomach. could she be talking about you? no, but then again all the moments where your legs brushed together while you sat, the lingering gazes and stolen looks, her hands on your waist when she guided you through a big crowd, just all the times where the lines between best friend and more became blurred.
however, gwen remained silent, her intentions veiled for now.
you two had similar schedules, so it was everyday you two walked to your classes together. as the two of you made your way to study hall, gwen broke the silence, "wanna share headphones while we work?"
her hand brushed against yours, your breath hitching as you became hyper aware of how close gwen was. you could feel her continue to stare into your eyes as she intertwined her hand with yours. a smile bloomed across your face as you nodded in agreement, unaware of someone else glaring at you from a distance. again.
weeks passed since then. before, prom was less than a month away. now? just days.
you still didn’t have a date. part of you wanted to just go along, not having any interest and anyone besides gwen. but another part of you was still holding onto hope, living in the fantasy world of the imaginary scenarios that she’ll ask you out.
there were doubts in your mind if gwen liked you, and even if you liked her. she’s your friend, best friend even. but your friendship with her is so different from the way you both treat your other friends. you don’t let your other friends call you names, sit on their lap while their hands wrap around your waist, stay up on friday nights and fall asleep on the phone, and so much more. it was more than just the physical attraction you had to gwen, it was the chemistry between you two. you admit, gwen is more than fine. to her tall demeanor and athletic body, and not to mention the hair and piercings. but the way she understood you more than anyone else was the biggest turn on of them all. she can read you like the back of her hand. she knows when you’re sad, when something’s bothering you, when you’re overwhelmed and just want someone to run away with even if it’s temporary.
all year it seemed that you both had been running circles around each other. there was just something different about the way she stared straight into your eyes as you talked about something. or the times where you swear you saw her biting down on her lip as she sneakily checked you out before you could catch her and she’d tell you how pretty you are. the times you would ask her to repeat stuff on the phone because you just loved hearing her voice just to fall asleep to it. the time where she noticed you looked at her while she cleaned her drumsticks and she told you it’s rude to stare. the times where she had no problem sneaking into your home from through your window to comfort you after a fight with your parents.
she felt like your other half and that’s what confused you. everyone talked about their best friend like that, but you and gwen didn’t seem like friends. and you can’t tell anymore if that’s good or bad.
it was clear you were attracted to gwen in more ways than one, but you couldn’t help but be in denial because of your fear that if you did pursue something romantic with her you could possibly ruin your friendship forever, and you couldn’t imagine your life without her.
gwen couldn’t imagine her life without you either, harry knew that first hand. which is why he’s on his way to your place right now.
harry osborn mustered up the courage to confess his feelings to gwen, his heart pounding with anticipation. he found her in the hallway, took a deep breath, and poured out his emotions, confessing his affection and asking her to be his date for the upcoming prom.
"hey, gwen," harry began, his voice filled with a mix of nervousness and determination. "i've been meaning to tell you something... i really like you. you're amazing, talented, and so fearless. i’ve admired you for a while. so, i was wondering if you'd go to prom with me?"
gwen listened attentively, a kind smile on her face that slowly dropped as she kept talking. but before harry could catch his breath, she gently interrupted him.
"harry, look, i appreciate you telling me this and you're such an amazing friend," gwen replied, her soft and cautious. "but, i can’t go with you. i’m sorry it’s just… i actually had something on my mind too for a while. i've been wanting to tell (y/n) how i feel about her for a while now and so i thought prom would be the best excuse. i've just been nervous about it because i don’t want ti ruin anything. you understand, right?"
harry's face fell slightly, his disappointment flickering across his features. he tried his best to hide the bitterness he felt, realizing that gwen's heart was set on someone else.
"oh... i see," harry responded, trying to sound nonchalant. "don’t worry, gwen. i get it. i never caught on that you liked our (y/n), that’s my bad. i'm sure you’ll both have an amazing time at the dance when you ask her."
gwen's expression softened, "thank you, harry. i hope this doesn’t make anything too weird or weirder than it needs to be. friends?"
harry forced a smile, masking his envy as best as he could. "of course, gwen. friends always."
but as gwen turned to leave, harry's mind started to spin. thoughts of revenge began to cloud his judgment.
how could gwen stacy reject him? it was all he could think of. ‘she’s just a cop's daughter’ he thought, balling his hands into a fist.
“hey, could you speed it up?” he pressed the driver, quickly apologizing. “sorry i just… the waiting is killin’ me.”
maybe it was the bitterness fueling his need to boost his own ego, but he still couldn’t wrap his mind around the rejection. all his life, harry was given what he wanted without a second thought from his father or the people around him. it seemed that for the first time he couldn’t have what he wanted and didn't know how to act.
that’s what led him here, to the front of your place. harry pushed open the car door, his oxford shoes hitting the pavement.
“wait for us, will you?” he asked the driver but the tone of his voice made it clear that it was an order.
harry : hey sweets
harry : go look outside your window for me sent at 4:53
you were doing your homework when suddenly you felt a vibration against your desk. you turned your head to the side and noticed your phone lighting up. with a sigh wanting to take a break from working, you picked it up and your eyes went wide as you saw who it was who texted you. part of you hoped it was gwen, but no, it was harry.
the message on your lock screen made you cringe as soon as you saw that he had called you ‘sweets.’
“the hell is this boy on now,” you muttered, swiping up to see the full text in messages.
you : tf you mean look out my window… did you take your daddy’s medicine by any chance ?? sent at 4:55
before you even gave him the chance to reply, you walked up to your window and pushed the curtain to the side. looking down, you were met with the sight of harry typing on his phone before looking up at you with a charming smile.
harry : you wanna come down rapunzel?
you let out a scoff, the sides of your mouth twitching into a smile as you made your way downstairs. you unlocked the door, opening it to be met with harry walking up to you and revealing a beautiful bouquet of assorted flowers to you. it looked expensive and it glowed in the sun.
“don’t tell me those are for me,” you spoke in a whisper, voice caught in your throat from how unexpected this all was.
he smiled, putting the bouquet in my hand as the floral aroma filled my senses. “then i won’t, just take them princess.”
harry knew you were getting weirder out by his behavior just by the way your face had this stank look to it. not like you were disgusted by him or anything, but by how confusing this was.
“what?” he asked with a smirk.
“you’re just acting a lil’ strange is all,” you replied slowly, squeezing the bouquet to your chest and sniffing the assortment. “they smell beautiful harry, thank you. but no offense, why are you outside my home dressed like james dean?”
he did a low chuckle as he looked into your eyes. sure, harry was cute though he wasn’t necessarily your type. and while it is really attractive to have someone dress nice for you, call you sweet things, and even come to your home with flowers, it was just weird. it was just weird. why him?
"just walk with me, please?" harry asked, extending his hand towards you.
“and sight see all the power plants?” you mocked, but seeing the pleasing look on his face made you fold. you hesitated, but ultimately took him up on it.
as you took his hand, you felt his grip tighten, pulling you uncomfortably close. "i'm sure there's a beautiful waterfront or some other scenic spot for us to explore," he said, his voice filled with anticipation.
you couldn't help but raise an eyebrow, a mix of skepticism and curiosity flickering in your eyes. despite your reservations, you found yourself drawn to him and his intentions.
“you look beautiful today,” he added, still looking forward as the glow of the sky highlighted his face.
you let out a laugh, causing him to glare at you from the corner of his eye.
“oh harry, you’re so charming, thank you,” you teased, voice monotone to poke fun at his advances.
he let out a chuckle as you both approached the waterfront. golden hour was approaching, and the sky was painted a deep orange with yellow highlights and a beauty exuding from it. the clouds were faint and moved slowly to the side, like careful paint strokes to a canvas.
as you released your hand from harry's, you walked toward the ledge, taking in the awe-inspiring scenery. it felt like a moment of pure magic, as if the world had paused to allow you to appreciate the simple pleasures surrounding you. the gentle caress of the warm breeze, the distant echoes of laughter, and the soothing sound of water rippling in the wind created a serene ambiance.
harry initiated the conversation, breaking the silence. "you've never been here before?" he asked, his voice filled with genuine curiosity.
you met his gaze with a sly smile, “nah, i never have time to do stuff like this. im always busy with my own responsibilities so it doesn’t really cross my mind to do a tinder style long walks down the cigarette infested new york streets and visit all the landscapes.”
harry approached you, leaning against the ledge with a smile playing on his lips. he let out a genuine chuckle, appreciating your sense of humor.
"there's the (y/n) i know," he remarked, his tone filled with affection. "always quick with the sarcasm. it's one of the many things that make you so likable. you have this unique and mysterious charm about you.”
you studied him for a moment, a dry laugh escaping your lips. "secret charm?" you quipped, raising an eyebrow. "i've never really made an effort to talk to anyone, so l'd be surprised if i had any secret admirers.”
“well, allow me to introduce you to one of them,” he said as he took your hand in his and gave it a chest kiss.
harry's expression turned softer, and he took your hand in his, placing a gentle kiss on your palm. his eyes held a glimmer of and a hint of seduction.
"i know we haven't always been the closest, but lately, you've been on my mind. a lot," he confessed, bringing your hand to rest against his chest. "i've admired you from afar, and i've been nervous to be around you. you're not just gorgeous, but smart, witty, and so much more. i can't imagine going to prom with anyone else but you. so, would you honor me by being my date?"
your heart skipped a beat with each word he spoke. shock washed over you, and your face revealed a mix of emotions. while you value your friendship with harry, you didn't share the same romantic feelings. you hesitated, searching for the right words to convey your thoughts.
but something about it was off. while his words seemed genuine and soft, his eyes told a different story. they were dark and deceptive, gleaming with an unsettling intensity. it sent a shiver down your spine, making you question his true intentions. the way he stared at you felt predatory, like he was sizing you up, waiting for the opportune moment to strike at his prey. it created an alarming imbalance of power, as if he was counting on something beyond your control.
"harry," you began, your voice gentle but firm. “i’m really sorry for this but i don’t see you that way. i’m flattered but you have to understand… there are other girls that would love to go with you. you’re a heartthrob, y’know? you can get anyone with your appeal. it’s just that i’ve liked gwen for a while and have been waiting for something to happen but-“
“it seems i really can’t get anyone, (y/n),” he spat out in anger. harry's demeanor shifted, his face contorting with anger. he turned slightly away from you, pinching the bridge of his nose as if trying to regain composure. his tone dripped with bitterness as he spoke. “gwen huh? always gwen, isn’t it?”
“what?” you mouthed in confusion.
"you really think gwen would ever ask you to prom? better yet, you think she likes you?" he sneered, closing the distance between you until your chests almost touched.
“get outta my face, i’m leaving,” you demanded, frustration welling up inside you as you pushed against his chest, trying to create some distance. “harry, fuck off of me.”
but harry's arms held you firmly in place, preventing your escape. his voice took on a mocking tone as he continued to belittle you.
"gwen already has a date. some kid named miles from out of town. she's been talking to him for a while now," he informed you, his words hitting you like a blow. "she doesn't want you, never has. she's just being nice, pretending to be your friend. so i don’t know when or how you tricked yourself into thinking she has any interest in you."
your world seemed to crumble around you, a sickening feeling settling in the pit of your stomach. your legs grew weak, and you struggled to maintain your composure. tears welled up in your eyes, and you wiped them away, attempting to regain your composure before facing him.
“i know, it’s hard to hear. and she’s a fool for ever letting a girl like you slip away,” he continued, his tone shifting once again. "but you deserve better, (y/n). gwen is a selfish coward who only goes after what she wants with no regard for others. you deserve someone who appreciates you. someone like me. let me show you how you should be treated."
you took a step back, turning away from him, your hand instinctively covering your mouth. the tears flowed freely now, and a sense of disbelief washed over you. had you been deluding yourself all this time? was there truly no spark between you and gwen?
a forced smile played on your lips as you turned to face harry again, your entire demeanor transformed. it was as if a switch had been flipped, and you presented a facade that masked your true emotions.
"i'd love to go with you," you spoke weakly, your voice devoid of its usual strength. though you didn't reciprocate his feelings, you wanted a distraction. maybe he could give you the attention he claimed you deserved.
a wide, unsettling smile spread across harry's face, his expression taking on an eerie quality. it was a smile that sent shivers down your spine, as if there was something unsettling behind it. you couldn't shake off the feeling that his happiness wasn't truly about you saying yes.
"i'm glad," he replied, pulling you closer to his side. "let's get you home."
as you made your way back home with harry, the atmosphere became increasingly tense. the once-pleasant and work filled evening had transformed into an uncomfortable walk home. harry's grip on your arm tightened, his fingers digging into your skin almost painfully.
you attempted to break the silence, hoping to alleviate the mounting unease. "so, what are we gonna wear? have you thought about it?"
harry's response was curt and lacking his usual warmth. "i have a few ideas in mind. we'll figure it out."
you couldn't help but notice the change in his demeanor, his friendly and charismatic personality replaced by something cold and distant. doubts and concerns swirled in your mind, but you couldn't find the energy to voice them. instead, you kept quiet, unsure of how to navigate this unfamiliar territory.
upon reaching your house, you turned to face harry, attempting to gauge his mood. "thanks for walking me home," you told him, your voice laced with uncertainty. "i'll see you at school tomorrow."
harry's eyes bore into yours, his gaze intense and unsettling. "no need to thank me," he replied with a slight sneer. "i'll be seeing a lot more of you from now on."
confusion washed over you as you watched him walk away, his figure disappearing into the night. something was undeniably wrong, and you couldn't shake off the feeling of impending danger. you retreated into your home, the weight of the situation settling heavily on your shoulders.
you went into your room and just jumped into your bed and before you knew it your eyes were wet and you blacked out.
it was saturday morning, and the events of the previous night were a blur in your memory. as you rubbed your eyes and sat up in bed, you glanced down at your clothes, and suddenly, it all came rushing back. you had spent the entire night looking over old photos of you and gwen, shedding tears, before finally succumbing to exhaustion and taking a hot shower to soothe your emotions.
your face felt tight and slightly flushed as you made your way to the mirror. you examined your reflection, noticing the lingering redness in your eyes and the puffiness of your cheeks. even your voice seemed affected, carrying a hint of strain from the relentless sobbing that had consumed you.
it wasn't the news itself that hurt you. it was fine if gwen didn't have romantic feelings for you because it’s not like you’re entitled to her. if anything, you found relief in knowing that your friendship could still remain intact. but the way harry had delivered it to you was harsh and blunt, forcing you to confront things you hadn't even considered before.
to realize that gwen may have never seen you in a romantic light, not even once, left you feeling foolish. the most humiliating part was the possibility of misreading every interaction, every gesture, and every shared moment. and to learn from harry of all people that she had someone else all along made you question how long she had been interested in miles without ever mentioning it to you. although you had heard his name mentioned a few times, it had never crossed your mind that gwen had feelings for him. and it definitely didn’t cross your mind that they had been talking as of recently.
your phone began to ring, causing a pang of agony to surge through you. "please, let it be a scam call," you silently pleaded, yearning for a moment of solitude to process your thoughts.
reluctantly, you picked up the phone and turned it around to see the caller's identity. it was gwen. you felt conflicted as your stomach began to turn once again. on one hand, you longed to talk to her, driven by the depth of your feelings. but on the other hand, the internal embarrassment you felt made you want to avoid her at all costs.
summoning your courage, you swiped to answer the call. "hi," you whispered, your voice trembling as you tried to conceal any cracks.
there was a brief silence on the other end, and then gwen spoke with concern in her voice. "(y/n), are you okay? i tried texting you last night, but you didn't respond," she questioned.
"oh, um, yeah. i've just been having sleepless nights, so i went to bed early," you explained, attempting to brush off the previous night's emotional turmoil. "sorry bout’ that."
"are you sure everything's alright? it sounds like you've been crying," she pressed, genuine worry coloring her words. "if you need someone to talk to or if you want me to come over, just let me know. i’ll be there.”
"i'm fine. i wasn't crying, i literally just mentioned being tired," you replied, irritation seeping into your tone.
"i just want you to be honest with me. can i still come over? i have something i want to tell you," she mustered the courage to ask.
this was gwen's moment. she had been gathering her strength to speak to you about for so long, and now she was ready to make her request.
"yeah, sure. actually, i have something to tell you too," you added, your voice steadier now.
“okay, great- i mean good. i’ll see you later, okay?” she spoke, her voice cheery but a little nervous.
“see you later,” you replied, repeating it back to her as you hung up.
hours had past and it had only made you more anxious. what did she want to tell you? why wasn’t she here already?
you had already changed your clothes and fixed up your appearance to make yourself more presentable. you made sure to put some concealer under your eyes too to try and draw attention away from the puffiness and fading redness.
the knock at your door gave you a temporary relief from the anxiety of your mind as you went to go open it and greet gwen.
“hey,” she greeted, wrapping her arms around your waist and pulling you into a hug.
you hesitated for a moment, but you couldn’t resist the need to feel her touch. you wrapped your arms around her neck and pulled her closer. there was something so comforting about her touch and gentleness. you both pulled back as gwen stared deeply into your eyes. her hands drifted from the sides of your waist to the small of your back as both your eyes flicked over each other's features.
“are you gonna raid my fridge or wanna go straight to my room?” you asked, teasing her as you broke the unspoken tension between you two.
she giggled as a smirk appeared on her lips. she gave your back a gentle slap, “hey! and no thank you, i actually wanted to come talk to you about something that’s been on my mind,” she confessed.
“oh okay,” you said silently, leading her to your room.
gwen made herself comfortable as she plopped herself on your bed. she manspreaded her legs as she threw her head back against your wall, giving you a glimpse of her faint adam's apple before looking down at you. her hair had gotten longer since she shaved the sides, turning it into more of an undercut now as it framed her face beautifully. it was moments like these you remembered that gwen had equally good looks to match her personality. god, she was so breathtaking. her outfit was an oversized band hoodie that overlapped the tied flannel shirt around your waist, paired with black leggings and her signature teal converse.
"do you always have to take up all the space in my bed?" you asked, a hint of sarcasm in your voice as you placed your hands on your hips.
gwen responded with a playful groan, accompanied by a mischievous look. "oh please, there's plenty of room," she retorted, patting the empty space next to her, inviting you to join.
taking a deep breath, you couldn't resist the playful banter, and you sat down next to her, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness.
"so?" you prompted, your voice filled with anticipation, hoping she would take the lead in the conversation.
gwen's hesitation lingered in the air, her gaze momentarily shifting away as she gathered her thoughts. "i don't know... i've been wanting to tell you this for a while now, and, well, with prom coming up..."
before she could continue, you blurted out your own news, interrupting her. "harry asked me to prom."
the sudden interruption hung in the air, momentarily breaking the flow of the conversation. the nervous smile on gwen's face dropped immediately, and she sat up, her eyes locked onto yours with intensity.
"he what?" she questioned, her voice low and raspy, almost demanding you to repeat yourself.
"harry came here yesterday with flowers and asked me to be his prom date," you explained, sensing gwen's anger starting to simmer.
"(y/n), are you being serious with me right now?" she asked again, slowly rising from the bed as her anger began to surface.
"why the hell would i make any of this up, gwen?" you responded, a touch of frustration in your voice. "he said that he's liked me for a long time and that all he's been thinking about is asking me to prom."
gwen was in shock. anger fueled her thoughts toward harry. could he really be plotting revenge against her like this? was it possible that he would go to such lengths?
"do you think you're the first person he's told that to? he's not what you think," gwen told you firmly, her voice tinged with hurt and anger.
your irritation grew. you couldn't understand why gwen was so angry when she already had a date.
"really? so what is he then?" you questioned, your voice matching her intensity as you stood up to meet her gaze.
"i'll tell you this, he isn't the damn saint you're making him out to be!" gwen exclaimed, her anger palpable. "he's an actor, and if he's got you so hooked with a ten-minute performance, he's probably next in line for an oscar."
you scoffed at her frustration. "you have no business being mad at me for this when you already have your own date. do you want to have your cake and eat it too? because i'm sorry to tell you this, but that's not gonna slide with me. i'm allowed to have fun and talk to whoever i want," you declared, standing your ground.
gwen's eyes furrowed, and she put a hand over her mouth, taking a deep exhale before turning back to you.
"what date? what the hell are you talking about?" she hastily asked.
"don't play with me, gwen. i heard about you and miles. if it's not supposed to be a secret, then why didn't you mention it at all?" you raised your voice, frustration evident.
confusion etched over gwen's face. "did obnoxious osborn tell you this? because it's all bullshit, and he's talking out of his ass. he's literally known for being a heartthrob and making out with random girls in our class under the bleachers. come on, you know better than this," she explained, her voice filled with a mix of frustration and concern.
“i said don’t play with me, i’m not here to listen to you act childish and sound like a psycho tryna rhyme his name with the first words you can think of from a kids vocab book,” you yellee, quicklime calming yourself down.
you took a deep breath, ready to finish this.
"do i know better?" you repeated, stepping closer to her. "you're always disappearing randomly and refusing to open up about it. you act one way and then another, and you give me so many mixed signals that i've had enough of it!"
it felt like everything was falling apart, like a chaotic mess that couldn't be unraveled. after years of friendship, it was collapsing before your eyes like dominoes.
"i can't talk about it, okay? i have my own stuff, and you've never pressed me to tell you anything about that, so i know that’s not the real reason you’re upset," gwen argued back, her voice strained. "the mixed signals are what i came here to talk to you about, (y/n). i... i don't want to be friends with you anymore!" she admitted, her vulnerability showing through.
the room fell silent, the weight of her words hanging heavily in the air. you took a couple of steps back, feeling the ground shift beneath you. is this what harry was talking about? no, you knew better than to trust him over gwen. but in this moment of vulnerability, the conflicting information dragged you in two different directions. was it true that she didn't want to be friends with you, as harry had tried to convince you, or did she see it entirely differently?
gwen put her hands over her face, gripping her hair out of frustration. she tried to step forward, reaching a hand out to you, but you refused, holding your ground.
"shit... (y/n), i didn't mean for it to come out like that," she attempted to explain, her voice choked with tears as she realized the intensity of the situation.
"leave," you told her, your voice stern and harsh.
"what? you can't be serious," she pleaded. "you don't seriously choose his word over mine, do you?"
"no! i just- i just can't do this right now, and i need you to leave," you replied, your voice filled with a mix of pain and frustration.
the room fell into an uneasy silence as gwen stared at you, her eyes wide reflecting her disbelief. slowly, she walked past you, tears streaming down her face as she looked down to avoid your gaze, and left without saying another word.
as the door closed behind her, you sank to the floor, feeling a heavy emptiness settle in your chest. the weight of the broken friendship added a weight onto you, and you couldn't help but question whether things could ever be the same again.
"you told her you didn't want to be friends anymore?" peter asked in disbelief as he leaned against a nearby locker, his eyes fixed on gwen.
gwen let out a frustrated sigh as she slammed her locker shut after putting her books inside, resting her back against it. "i didn't mean it like that, peter. i was just caught off guard. and to make matters worse, harry sabotaged everything," she explained, running her hands through her hair in frustration. "i never even saw it coming.
peter stepped beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. "you know (y/n), gwen. she's smart and strong. she won't let harry manipulate her, and deep down, i think you know she doesn't have any real interest in him," he reassured her, urging her to have faith in your judgment.
gwen nodded, her eyes closing shut as she palmed her face. "i know, it's just... the thought of her with harry makes me physically sick," she admitted,
the image of you with someone else haunted gwen's thoughts. and knowing the person was harry, who didn’t even love or care for you, made it so much worse. she knew he could never love you the way she does. he was merely using you as a pawn in his little game, and it infuriated her that you were dragged into this one-sided fight.
"speak of the devil," peter muttered, gesturing for gwen to look down the hallway.
her eyes landed on you, engaged in a casual conversation with your friend liz allen. that was normal, but what wasn't normal was harry by your side, holding your hand as you strolled confidently down the hallway together. gwen's heart sank as she felt her tongue press against the inside of her cheek. he noticed her gaze and it only made his smirk grow.
“i'm gonna go with liz. see you later," you said to harry before walking away, leaving him with a warm smile
on his face.
"i'ii catch up with you later, baby," he replied, his tone affectionate as you disappeared into a nearby classroom.
gwen winced at the nickname, her inner cheek now bearing the marks of her biting down on it. she let out a deep sigh, her eyes still fixed on harry as he made his way over to her and peter.
"why the long face? the frown doesn't suit you," he taunted, trying to provoke a reaction from gwen.
and it worked.
gwen's frustration boiled over, and without hesitation, she grabbed harry by the collar and pushed him up against the wall, surprising him with her sudden burst of anger. the unexpected aggression caught harry off guard, eliciting a loud grunt from him.
"gwen, wait!" peter called out, attempting to intervene and calm her down.
“she’s not just some toy you can pick up and play with until you don’t need her anymore. she has nothing to do this with and you're seriously pathetic for going this low by dragging her into this just to get back at me,” gwen asserted.
harry let out a mocking laugh, trying to mask his surprise. he carefully chose his words, well aware that the hallways were empty at this time.
“but toys are meant to be played with by definition,” he said, his voice dripping with coldness. “does it make you mad when you see her with me? when i get to touch her the way you’ve wanted for so long and you couldn’t? you call me pathetic, but you couldn't even gather the courage to tell her how you feel. holding her hand made you shy away like a little girl," he retorted.
gwen yanked him forward before forcefully slamming him back into the wall. her eyes blazed with fierce determination. "you are the embodiment of pathetic, harry. this whole mess started because i don't like you, and guess what? that hasn't changed. you believe yourself to be sophisticated and superior to everyone else, but all you do is push others down to get yourself where you want to go. you disguise it behind the glamor and the clothes but behind it you’re just a lowlife with no real friends. you aren’t entitled to anybody or anything. and i guess since you’ve been spoiled all your life it’s up to me to teach you that no amount of money or charm will buy you dignity.”
taking a deep breath, gwen eased her grip on his collar, releasing him from her hold. “you think life is one big party and people are just trends you can skip over, but mark my words, you’re in for a rude awakening,” she stated.
"and what are you going to do?" he jeered, mocking her. what could she possibly do to free herself from the drama harry has ensnared her in, purely for his own sadistic pleasure of watching her life crumble?
"you'll see. but next time you dare to pull a stunt like this, remember who you're messing with," she warned, giving harry a menacing glare as she walked away, accompanied by peter.
gwen wouldn’t let harry get away with this. to her, this wasn’t about revenge, this was about you. this was about her doing right by you and treating you how you truly deserved to be treated. she was going to make sure you know exactly how she feels.
the day of prom had arrived, and the anticipation weighed heavily on your shoulders. it was evident that harry's focus lay not in the outfits you both wore, but rather in the desire to be seen with you. perhaps he aimed to stoke gwen's jealousy, to make her realize what she couldn't have.
as you slipped into your dress, its flattering silhouette accentuating your figure with an open back and slit, you couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. the night you once eagerly anticipated now loomed before you with apprehension. the fallout between you and gwen had left a void, and the lack of communication had extended to peter as well. the thought of addressing the situation felt overwhelming, so you chose the path of avoidance, despite knowing deep down that it may not have been the wisest decision.
occasional conversations with peter only served to reinforce your initial doubts about harry. he told you that he was acting sketchy, his fight with gwen, and you also shared with him the things harry had told you in his little speech. you acknowledged the validity of those doubts, but a part of you couldn't help but harbor anger towards gwen. you longed for her to take the initiative, to approach you and express her true feelings. while you understood her struggle with vocalizing emotions, the prolonged silence of unspoken words and the feeling of being strung along intensified the tension between you. it was a painful realization that your feelings for gwen had no sign of fading away soon, yet they seemed to have no chance to blossom into something more either. the stagnation gnawed at your heart.
the internal conflict in your mind tormented you, a battle between your desire for gwen's love and the frustration of her fears.
as you stood in front of the mirror, the anxiety of the night filled the air. the sound of a car pulling up outside your home signaled the arrival of harry, who had graciously offered to be your escort for the evening.
taking a deep breath, you gathered your courage and made your way downstairs to meet harry. as you opened the door, he greeted you with a charming smile, his eyes momentarily flickering up and down your body.
“aren’t you a sight for sore eyes,” harry stated as he leaned against your door frame. he wore all black which included his blazer and khaki’s, but instead of a button up he fancied himself in a matching black turtleneck. his shoes were equally dark oxford’s that he sported casually.
“who are you, someone’s grandpa?” you asked as a harsh tease.
all he did was chuckle in response, not sensing your bitterness toward him.
"ready for a night to remember?" harry asked, extending his hand to you.
you hesitated for a moment, torn between your heart and your mind. yet, you were in too deep and it felt all you could do now was seize the opportunity to make the best of your prom. you took harry's hand, allowing him to lead you towards the awaiting car.
stepping inside, you were immediately enveloped in luxury. the plush leather seats and the soft ambiance of the car created an atmosphere of opulence. as the vehicle glided through the city streets, you couldn't help but marvel at the passing lights and how beautiful new york looked transformed by the night sky.
you glanced absentmindedly at the raindrops trickling down the window, seeking solace in the gentle rhythm of the drizzle. it acted as a soothing distraction from the swirling thoughts that occupied your mind, thoughts that revolved around one person in particular— gwen.
harry, perceptive as ever, sensed the weight of your emotions.
"you know you made the right decision," he remarked as he edged closer to you, his voice having an untruthful undertone.
you gave him a glare from the side of your eye before turning to face him.
“why do you say that?” you questioned, growing frustrated with everything.
"well, with gwen, you would've never reached this point," he responded simply.
his words stung, it was a bitter realization, one that left a sour taste in your mouth.
a wry smile played on harry's lips as he reached out to adjust the corsage he had bestowed upon you, an accessory chosen not out of admiration, but as a symbol of his possession over you.
harry sensed your conflicted state and attempted to try and ease you up.
"i may have attended plenty of lavish events in this car since i was young," harry continued, a faint shadow of a smile dancing on his lips. "but tonight... tonight feels different with you."
the words echoed hollowly, devoid of the genuine emotions you had secretly yearned for. they were a stark reminder that beneath the glittering facade, harry's intentions were far from pure. you didn’t respond, instead you chose to nod at his words as you recognized you were near the school.
"here we are, mr. osborn," the driver announced, interrupting the tense atmosphere.
harry's face lit up with a triumphant gleam as he turned toward you, extending his hand. reluctantly, you accepted his hand, stepping out of the car, the light raindrops falling around you like a somber symphony. as you made your way towards the entrance, you steeled yourself, preparing yourself for whatever mess that you knew you were about to get into.
as you stepped into the prom venue, a wave of excitement washed over you. the energy was electrifying, with music bouncing off the walls and vibrant lights casting a kaleidoscope of colors across the room. the once crappy gym had been transformed into a breathtaking space, adorned with elegant decorations that made the room look so enchanting and full of life.
the makeshift dance floor was enticing, its polished surface gleaming invitingly under the soft glow of the overhead chandeliers. couples twirled gracefully, their movements synchronized with the rhythm of the music. laughter filled the air as friends greeted each other and took pictures.
the walls were adorned with cascading drapes and shimmering streamers, creating a whimsical backdrop. tables were meticulously arranged, adorned with centerpieces of flowers and flickering candles, adding a special touch to the scene. everywhere you looked, the place was alive.
the dj stationed at the center of the room skillfully curated a playlist that blended popular hits and timeless classics. the beats throbbed through the speakers, encouraging everyone to take to the dance floor and lose themselves into the night.
as you made your way further into the so-called venue, you caught glimpses of friends and classmates as they passed by. yet, still no sight of gwen.
as the hours ticked by, you found yourself consumed by an unexplainable longing to see her. the mere thought of seeing her again stirred a whirlwind of emotions within you, leaving you restless on the dance floor and yearning for her presence.
throughout the night, you caught fleeting glimpses of her, mere fragments that left you wanting more. your attention was drawn to the distinct elements that composed her captivating image. her hair, cascading in waves, held a hint of mystery, teasing you with its untamed elegance. the sight of her donning a black leather jacket ignited a sense of rebellious allure, adding an edgy touch to her.
your eyes traced the contours of her neck adorned with a black choker, layered with multiple necklaces, each one a reflection of her individuality. beneath the jacket, a pink dress peeked through, its front short and the back long, while a layer of dark purple added on top.
black knee-length tights hugged her legs and as your gaze descended, you couldn't help but notice the black boots that completed her look.
as you swayed to the music, engrossed in conversation with your friends, harry slipped out of your view, claiming he was going to fetch drinks for the two of you. he made his way to the drink table, where an array of drinks and desserts awaited.
with a hint of mischief, harry muttered to gwen, "oh, don't mind me, just getting a drink for me and my girl." he poured two glasses, a calculated move to incite a sense of jealousy, knowing that gwen had been watching your interactions throughout the night, longing to be the one by your side. “enjoying the night, hannah montana?”
gwen, determined not to let harry's words affect her, initially brushed off his comment. however, his persistent needling proved too much to ignore. "wow, that was the funniest thing you've said yet! you deserve some applause for that one," she retorted sarcastically, her hands mockingly clapping for his attempt at humor.
he smirked watching her get riled up as he took it upon himself to stand next to gwen. he moved closer to her side, leaning in to speak softly into her ear. “sad to think that you thought you’d have the last word in this all, gwen. after this it’s off to college. you really messed up your chances. not even just with (y/n), but with me. we could’ve had something, but you only really care about yourself, huh?” he turned around fully, holding his two drinks ready to leave. “this is it. i have the last word.”
that was enough to do it for gwen.
gwen reached her breaking point. the music slowed down, the dj's announcement filling the air, urging everyone to bring their partners to the dance floor. the crowd surged, people jostling for space, with a few girls even approaching harry for a quick dance, eager to bask in his wealth and fuel his ego.
this was her time.
"hey, we need to talk," gwen said, her grip tight as she grabbed your arm. startled, you looked up at her, surprised to see her so close, determination evident in her eyes.
"yeah, we do," you agreed, allowing her to hurriedly guide you both outside, away from prying eyes and the bustling prom.
as you stepped into the open, the light drizzle that had fallen earlier transformed into a gentle rain shower. the lobby glistened with moisture, and a soft breeze rustled through the nearby trees. gwen's hand tightened around yours, helping you stay stable amidst the slippery ground.
"gwen," you called out, tone laced with concern, but she continued walking, leading you to a secluded spot beside the school lobby. "gwen, enough! you need to talk too," you exclaimed, feeling the urgency mounting within you.
she paused, her hand covering her face momentarily, trying to rein in her frustration. "i need to talk? you didn't even let me explain myself last time, and then i saw you here with him," gwen said, her words pouring out rapidly as she fought to control her emotions. "but that's not why i wanted to talk to you now. look, harry asked me to the prom, and i said no... because i had planned to ask you," she revealed.
your eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and realization washing over you. you had suspected harry hadn't been entirely truthful, but the revelation that gwen had intended to ask you left you speechless.
"what?" you mouthed, struggling to find the right words. "so when you came to my house?" you managed to ask, your voice trembling.
"yes! i was going to ask you," gwen affirmed, feeling relief as you finally began to understand. "i love you, (y/n). you've been my best friend, but i've fallen in love with you. i've been losing sleep over it. you're always there for me, understanding in ways i've never experienced before, and it scares me. i didn't want to tell you because i didn't want to risk losing what we have. the thought of you saying no and jeopardizing our friendship stressed me out so much. i would have rather kept my feelings hidden if it meant i could still have you in my life. but now, i just want to face my fears and say, 'screw it,' because i meant every word that i told you when i went to see you. i don't want to be just your friend anymore, i want to be more."
a silence settled between you, interrupted only by the sound of raindrops cascading down gwen's jacket. tears welled up in your eyes as her words pierced through your heart.
"you like me?" you simply asked, your voice almost breaking.
"more than like," she chuckled softly, running a hand through her hair. "you have no idea."
slowly, you closed the distance between you, your fingers fidgeting with the corsage on your wrist. "i like you too, gwen. love, even," you confessed. "i felt so foolish, thinking there might be something between us. part of me believed it was all in my head, and then harry started messing with me, planting doubts that you would never be interested. it hit me hard, and that's why i went with him. i felt trapped, but i also wanted to see your reaction."
gwen's smile grew, and she gently placed her hand in yours, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "you wanted to see if i'd get jealous?" she inquired, curiosity dancing in her eyes, a small smile playing on her lips.
"yeah, i guess... i felt this thing between us at times, and it made me overthink. i thought that maybe, if you saw me with someone else, you would speak up. and if you didn't, well, it would be a win-win because at least i'd still have a date," you admitted, your voice tinged with regret. "i'm sorry. i shouldn't have treated you like this. i just get overwhelmed and scared when i don't think things are gonna work out, so i just avoided it all outta fear."
"don't apologize. both of us got caught up in harry's stupid revenge scheme," gwen said softly, her thumb gently caressing your knuckles.
in the quietude that enveloped you both, you found yourselves staring into each other's eyes. the moonlight filtered through the dark night sky, casting a soft glow upon gwen's features. she looked effortlessly beautiful, her blue eyes sparkling, and her hair framing her face. up close, you noticed the delicate touch of makeup—a rosy red on her lips and smokey eyeshadow with a hint of blue.
before you could fully comprehend your own actions, you leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss upon her lips. it was too quick for her to kiss back.
her eyes widened in shock and you felt her gasp against your lips. with the unspoken tension broken, there was no more denying the feelings that had been building between the two of you.
suddenly, gwen’s lips crashed against yours as her hands moved to grip your waist and hold you close. she melted into you, a moan escaping her lips as she pressed herself
against you and kissed you hungrily. the electricity between the two of you surrounded you, a silent understanding passing between you that changed the dynamic of friendship was changed forever.
gwen parted her lips away from yours as they brushed up against each other in the small distance.
her eyes softened, her gaze searching yours. "you deserve better," she said, her voice filled with conviction. "and i want to be the one who shows you that."
her hands massaged up and down your torso gently as your arms found their way around her neck. “you are better,” you whispered to her.
it was like you and a magnetism to you that gwen couldn’t fight as your words encouraged her to kiss you again. it was like a switch was flipped inside gwen. she'd never experienced something so electrifying before. feeling your lips against hers was pure passion. her heart raced with excitement as she let herself be swept along in the moment. when your lips met hers and your mouths filled with the taste of the other, gwen felt there was no more room for hesitation now, and the two of you were lost in an incredible kiss that couldn't be stopped.
"you don't need this anymore," gwen's voice came out in a hoarse whisper as she reached for the corsage on your wrist, the one harry had given you. her eyes lingered on the delicate blooms, appreciating their beauty for a fleeting moment. then, in one swift motion, she tore the corsage clean off your hand, her grip firm and unwavering. the force with which she removed it almost stung. gwen flung it far behind you, casting it away.
gwen pushed you lightly into a nearby wall, her hand cupping the back of your head so you wouldn’t get hurt by the impact. she wanted nothing more than to feel you against her, to have your arms wrapped around her as you kissed her again and again. her heart was starting to beat in her chest, and you could feel her breathing quicken.
but still gazing intently into your eyes and keeping her lips inches from your own, gwen briefly backed away. "i think harry's an idiot," she purred, her tone dripping with confidence.
she pulled you close again, her body pressed against yours as if she was trying to collide with you. "he doesn't know anything about you. you're the most amazing, incredible, sweet, adorable..." she paused, her heart racing. "perfect."
a drop of water landed on her nose and slid down her face, causing her to giggle. her radiant smile illuminated the moment, casting a spell of enchantment.
the weight of her words settled upon you, leaving you blissfully captivated. "perfect?" you repeated.
“so perfect, you don’t even have to try,” she replied, her eyes softening as she sees how flustered you get.
gwen leaned in and nibbled your lower lip as she bit the bottom teasingly, just to see how you'd react. "mmm, " she moaned, her eyes fluttering shut as she pressed her lips against yours again. you felt her lick on your lower lip as she cocked her head to the side to deepen the kiss. your body trembled as gwen's tongue pressed into your mouth. her hands reached out and drew you closer as she gently slipped past your playful resistance and explored your mouth.
her eyelids drifted shut as your tongue stroked hers. this was heaven for her, and your moans were like music to her ears. she ran her hand through your hair, her fingers gently brushing against the back of your neck as she continued to kiss you deeply and passionately. you could feel her other hand running slowly down your back, her fingertips gently trailing your spine. her kisses grew more frantic, her breathing becoming more rapid. all she wanted was you.
gwen felt your cool, plush thighs clamp around her leg as she slid it up between yours through the opening in your dress. her hands slid down your body, one moving past your legs and coming to rest on your thigh, giving it a tight squeeze as she began to knead at your skin while the other put a firm hand on your hips. you winced at the sensation of her hand rubbing between your thighs as the opposite hand pushed you down onto her leg. in all the excitement, she had pushed herself closer, now grinding against you as she tried to find some sense of relief.
with the rain, the kiss became even sloppier. your mascara started to drip and streak, and you could feel it on your lashes. your and gwen's lipsticks ended up mixing and smearing up against each other as you were both kissing. gwen broke away from your mouth and started laying a trail of kisses down your jaw, leaving faint red lip prints in their wake. her red rose tinted lipstick was now much more faint and messy around her lips.
gwen lowered her mouth to your neck and began lightly sucking and nibbling. you almost went weak in the knees from the stimulating sensation caused by her lips leaving open mouth kisses on the surface of your skin that reached your collarbone and the curve of your breasts.
“(y/n)?” you heard a voice call.
shit, it was harry.
“(y/n), are you out here?” he called out once more.
gwen lifted herself off your neck and straightened herself as she glanced up at you with half-lidded eyes. peering from behind the wall that offered a semblance of concealment, you saw harry discovering the discarded corsage gwen had ripped off your wrist. he knelt down, his gaze fixated on it.
gwen's eyes met yours, a mischievous glint dancing within them. despite your scolding look, she leaned closer to you, undeterred by the risk of being overheard.
"he's going to hear us, gwen," you warned, aware of the potential consequences.
"so?" she replied, a hint of defiance in her voice. "unless you care, because i don't. let him hear."
her audacity caught you off guard, your face flushing as she returned to your neck, this time biting down hard on your skin as you felt the blood rush to the concentrated spots. you were sure they were gonna bruise and turn purple later.
“gwen!” you gasped loud, quickly covering your mouth to muffle her name. she went on, and her unexpected senses caught you off guard.
you made every effort to make sure you weren't too loud for harry to hear, but it was difficult to keep your whines under control.
but gwen knew. when he heard mysterious noises, noticed your discarded corsage, and realized he hadn't seen her go back inside, gwen knew he was aware based on the way she noticed in the corner of her eye how his face twisted. he ultimately stood up and turned around as he headed back inside.
with a soft pop, gwen pulled away from your neck. she stared attentively at you as you were breathing heavily against the wall. it was a gaze that held the power to captivate, like a masterful musician surveying their latest composition. in that moment, you felt like a canvas, waiting to be explored and transformed by her artistic touch.
“perfect and beautiful,” she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible. “i’ve wanted to do that for so long- not the makeout and hickey thing. i mean, don’t get me wrong, i enjoyed it even if it moved a little fast but uh… the kiss part. i wanted to kiss you for a while to see how it felt.”
even though gwen was touching you and whispering sweet nothings in your ear with complete confidence, you grinned at how nervous she had become. wrapping your arms around yourself, you shivered slightly, the rain casting a chill upon you.
“you’re cold? hold on,” gwen's concern was immediate as she swiftly removed her leather jacket and draped it over your shoulders. “here, much better than getting hypothermia.”
you chuckled at her teasing as you felt her cheeks heat up. "thank you," you whispered, hugging her briefly.
she smiled down at you, admiring how you looked in her clothes. "no need to thank me. you look stunning in it," she complimented, a mischievous smirk gracing her lips.
as you emerged from your hiding place, she seized your hand.
“what do we do now?” you asked her.
gwen turned to you, a rebellious glint in her eye. “well, i’m over this prom thing,” she admitted as she pulled you closer, her hand releasing from yours to wrap her arm around your waist and hold you snugly against her side. “wanna get outta here?” she asked.
a smile played on your lips as you nodded in agreement. "yes, let's do it," you replied.
just as you both contemplate your next move, your phone vibrates, signaling a new message.
“don’t tell me it’s him,” she groaned as you nodded, confirming her suspicion.
she extended her hand, silently requesting your phone. "can i?" she asked, her eyes gleaming mischievously.
handing her your phone, you watched as gwen opened the camera app and positioned it in front of both of you. "smile!" she declared, capturing the moment with a click. the picture was you smiling as gwen held you jaw gently, planting a kiss on your cheek.
with the photo now saved on your phone, gwen's mischievous side took over. she swiftly navigated through your messages until she found harry's name. grinning devilishly, she selected his contact and attached the newly taken photo.
"just gonna let him know you won’t be coming back," gwen remarked, her voice full of wicked delight. without hesitation, she composed a short message to accompany the photo, her fingers dancing across the screen.
harry : (y/n) where did you go? you missing out sent at 8:53
you : hey harry, it’s gwen. she’s a little busy right now.
you : me and (y/n) are kinda over this prom night so we decided to do our own thing so i promise you we won’t be missing much. hope you enjoy the photo tho!! sent at 9:00
"there you go," gwen told you as she giggled to herself. "let's see how he likes that."
‘it feels good to be petty’ she thought, handing your phone back. the sky stretched out above, an expanse of darkness that seemed to swallow the world below. it was a canvas painted in shades of ebony and indigo, adorned with the twinkling jewels of distant stars. the rain had dampened her hair, causing it to cling to her forehead in an alluring fashion.
“so, my place? i have food,” she suggests, a smirk forming at the corners of her mouth.
you laughed at how casual it was. you two, ready to go to prom and dressed up, would now rather just go to her house and eat whatever leftovers she had to offer.
"wow, how fancy," you jested, your tone filled with playful sarcasm. "please, take me anywhere but here."
together, you left, leaving behind the glitz and glamor of prom and harry’s drama to finally have the night you and gwen deserved. as you stepped away from the whirlwind of glittering lights and laughter, you felt a wave of comfort wash over you in her presence. for just an instant, the weight of the world seemed to lift from your shoulders. although you had fully anticipated having the most miserable prom and an even worst summer, you were now fully content. you had gwen, and that was all you could ask her.
she was just glad she could steal you back faster than he took you.
A/N: it’s finally here….😽😽

thank you anon :> ok, so this one is a doozy (i fucking cried inside):
comforting gwen
summary: gwen's in her own world again, thinking about the stuff that's happened in the past, beating herself up for it, and... you're worried. you're extremely worried for her. you want to help her so badly, but the right push for you to help was when you witnessed her storm out of band practice with tears welling up in her eyes.
word count: 1,973
Tumblr media
the clanging of cymbals and the drumming on the snare abruptly stops mid-performance. the bass, electric guitar, and lead vocalist going on without her for a few seconds, until they notice their beat was lacking something. they turned around to face her. she was slightly pale, her light blue eyes widening as her eyebrows curved upward to display her discomfort, her desire to just vanish from there right now as her drumsticks fell from her clutches, her grip lessening as the feeling overwhelmed her; engulfing her life a big wave she can't even see the top of. it was back again, that horrible, horrible aching feeling that consumed her.
her breathing was ragged, her hearing just became ringing. she could barely make out the muffled and overlapping voices of her bandmates as she mumbled a, "not again" hastily, over and over as she gripped her head, feeling a heavy weight on her chest and back as she hunched over, tears welling up in her eyes as she felt her breathing become more and more labored.
"stacy, you okay--" asked one of her bandmates as they extended their hand towards her, but she slapped it away. with a furious look on her face as her eyebrows knitted together, and her mouth contorting into an uncharacteristic scowl. "leave me alone!" she shouted as she got up, and as her bandmates rushed to the aid of the one whose hand she slapped away, a split second of regret for what she did in her hazy, ambiguous bout was seen; which was quickly replaced by a new kind of disgust and anger: towards herself for feeling this way.
you soon entered their practice hall, hoping to catch gwen and ask her if you could take her somewhere nice tonight, but the moment you came in was the moment she stormed out. "watch your girl, she's been pretty out of it lately." said the vocalist of the mary janes. "'pretty out of it'? she slapped me when i was trying to help her!" exclaimed her bandmate whom she slapped their hand away.
"she...? oh no..." you thought aloud as you rushed to the direction where she stormed off, hoping she wouldn't do anything crass or anything she'd regret. you looked around for her, searching everywhere within the vicinity, calling her on her phone, only to hear buzzing against the ground. you found a flashing light from a stray phone, seeing a photo of you from her 14th birthday with cake shoved in your face with a lopsided, crumpled birthday hat on with a playful smile on your face.
this was gwen's phone.
"shit, not again... oh, gwinny..." you muttered to yourself as you called out for her, picking up her phone and hoping with all your might that you could find her this time, that she wouldn't be consumed by whatever she was feeling right then and there.
soon enough, as the sun was setting over the horizon, with the purple and pink hues in the sky stretching across the city, engulfing it in the eye-pleasing backdrop, you finally found gwen inside a small thicket by the farther parts of the building. she wasn't that deep in, but to get here, she must've walked an excruciatingly long distance.
you climbed up wordlessly as you felt the crunching of dried up orange and brown leaves from underneath the soles of your shoes and the crushing of smaller rocks as you marched up to talk to gwen, or at least, to see if she was doing better than how she was before.
gwen had her legs folded up to her chest, her arms folded on her knees as she pressed her forehead against them. she always got in this position whenever she felt... overwhelmed. you could remember the first time you saw her like this was after the death of her friend, peter parker.
you knew the guy, and you knew how much gwen loved him as a friend; the two were nearly inseparable, and you respected that. and to have him taken away from her like that... you could only imagine what kind of suffering she went through when she held his dying body, his eyes' colors fading away as she clung on to the hope that he'd live--she could do something, she had to have done something... right?
gwen perked up her head when you came closer, and soon, she saw your concerned expression looking down at her. "are you, um..." you mumbled, trying to find the right words to ask, because situations like this hardly have any "right words" to say. gwen looked down at the assortment of pebbles and brown leaf bits by her feet and shrugged. "it happened again." she uttered in a soft voice.
you sat down by her side wordlessly as you waited for her to initiate the talking first. gwen was... hopeless with words, especially in situations like these. and hey, so were you, but you never made stuff like this all about you, you never spoke for her when she needed to figure out just what was happening to her, you'd never, ever do that.
gwen breathes in deeply and holds it in for a few seconds, before letting it out with a ragged sigh, evoking tears to come out from the ends of her eyes, realizing she'd been holding that breath and a few tears in, which she was only willing to let out when you were there. just you.
after a few minutes of awkward, yet much needed, silence, gwen finally spoke up. "i don't know why this keeps happening, i should be over it... right? like, it... it happened so long ago. i shouldn't be affected by it anymore, at least, not this much... right?" she asked you as tears rolled down her cheeks, her eyebrows knitting together as her frustration with herself became more and more palpable.
you put a hand on her shoulder. "gwen, it's oka--" "don't." she cuts you off as she looks away from you, shutting her eyes as more tears came rolling down her cheeks and staining her shirt. "please don't tell me 'it's okay', it's not." she muttered as she got back in the position you found her in the moment you came across her after storming out.
she tried breathing in, but she exhaled it in a sob. "i'm glad you care, but please don't tell me it's okay because it's not. it's like his ghost'll always affect me, and that..." she trailed off as she looked down at her palms, as if the answer to her mental turmoils would be drawn across the skin of her palms. "...that's pathetic, isn't it?" she asked you as she turned to look at you, her bottom eyelids reddening and her nose and the corners of her lips quivering.
you shook your head. "no, it's not pathetic, it's... it's a sign you still care." you tell her as you brush her bangs out of the way of her face, the ends of her hair a tad bit wet from her tears staining it. you looked at her with such softness and care in your eyes, you wished you could take all her burdens, all her pain, and make it yours so she wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
gwen couldn't retort your logic, she knew it just as well as you did: she never stopped caring for peter, and his death affected her in so many ways, because she felt like her not having saved him, him wanting to be special, just like her, caused his death.
she feels like she killed him, and that feeling grew the more she realized she lived and he died.
gwen soon let out a louder sob, finally releasing all the feelings she's kept pent up ever since that day. you inched closer to her, and as she leaned against you, as she sobbed and sobbed her heart out. because of how many feelings she had neglected, how many thoughts she repressed were finally coming out like a flood, she cried louder and louder, as if she were screaming out her pain into the air for her cries to be heard--to be understood.
you wrapped her around your arms gently so as not to startle her, and you held her close. you let her cry over your shirt, it was just a shirt anyway, but what she felt... she wasn't just carrying feelings, she was carrying memories and thoughts with her that made her hate herself; she carried with her burdens no one will ever understand, maybe not even you would ever understand the full extent of.
you held her close and told her to let it out, for that was the best you could do. and even if gwen couldn't tell you right then and there that she appreciated your help, so, so much, her clinging on to you as she sobbed and holding you tightly was all the thanks you were satisfied with. she felt so comfortable with you, so vulnerable, so real with you.
"i'm scared... i might lose you, too. i don't know what'll, what'll happen to me if you..." she stammered out, her lips quivering as she blinked away her tears. you smiled softly at her as your eyebrows curved upwards in reassurance. "you don't have to worry about me, and i know... you might tell me you don't want to hear it, and i respect that. but i promise you, i'll look out for myself for you; and i'll always look out for you." you comforted her as you brushed your hand across her cheek with a reassuring smile.
"but please, promise me you'll worry about yourself, too." you reminded her as your smile slowly faded away. gwen's tears slowed down and halted from rolling down for a minute, she wiped the remaining tears away as she breathed in a shallow breath. "nobody understands a thing. nobody knows who you really are if you keep putting up walls between you and them." gwen utters in a soft voice as she rests her head against your shoulder.
"and you know what? i'm okay with that." she murmured as her voice cracked. "i'm not crazy for thinking i don't belong with a lot of people if their goal is to make friends. i might be crazy though for thinking... i can keep going on like this." she admitted as she looked up at you, who had been looking down at her all the while as she was speaking.
"if you ever feel like... the world's coming down upon you, crashing down on you and all... i'm right here for you." you tell her with a gentle smile. "i might never fully understand what you felt that day, what you continue to feel, and what you'll ever feel about that day, but... i've got you. you can talk to me." you reassure her, and at those last five words, gwen wraps you into a tight embrace, her thanking you and apologizing for getting you wrapped up in all of this.
"thank... you. i'll try, i'll try to... to accept it. and i'll... i'll take care of my...self better." she whispers to you, which you smile at as she hugs you back. she doesn't do friends anymore, but... you're the sole exception, you've been there for her since forever, and she's glad you'll extend staying with her even if she gets like this, gets scared, and confused, vulnerable and weak from her horrible thoughts and memories. she loves you more than how one would say they love a lover, more than how they say they love their parents or siblings or friends; she loves you with a love that heals and comforts, even if the scars of the past continue to throb at the most untimely moments.

Part Two
Words: 1461
A canon event.
It’s something Miguel had lectured to you about a year ago. The inevitability of having to lose someone that makes you and every Spider-person them. It defined you as a hero and a human being and made you realize that the positives of this job came with their negatives. Dire and unchanging ones. And sometimes you thought that you would be prepared for that day. But it was a simple lie you continued to tell yourself in the hope that it would numb the pain.
But who was Miguel to tell you how your story was supposed to go?
He worked off a theory. Off the numbers and data that an A.I. gave him. He was a man of science. Not belief. So, there has been no in-person count of what it led to if a Spider-Person stopped their canon event. Saving their loved ones and themselves from the pain that could come from it if they didn’t do what their instincts told them.
And you had planned to be the first. Wishing to prove the man wrong in every statement he’d made to your first meeting.
The plans had been set, promises were made for people to be there when that day came. You did everything you could to be prepared. You trained harder. You fought harder. All of it with the goal to protect those you could.
But you weren’t enough. Your efforts were fucking meaningless.
Looking down on New York, your swollen eyes watched the fires burn brightly. Rain soaking your braids with loose strands sticking to your forehead and cheeks. And your suit was charred and torn in multiple placements. Mask balled up in your tight fists. A wound spanning across your stomach bled continuously despite your attempt of webbing it shut for the time being.
All you wanted was for it to all stop.
You could hear it. A rapturing through reality with its natural orange glow reflecting off the puddles surrounding your spot on the edge of the clock tower. Two shadows cast on either side of your quivering figure, relaying the arrival of two people you’d trusted.
Arriving too late for it to matter.
“Y/n?” Gwen muttered, peeling her mask off and approaching your stiff figure. “Are you okay?”
You sat there for a few moments, sifting through the many emotions flowing through you at once. Pondering how to answer such a question from someone you thought to care.
“I never got to see the sunset, Gwen,” you said, words measured. “I hoped that I could feel its warmth again. But it’s been blocked out.”
A lingering absence, in reality, was the best way to describe how you spoke. And the way your eyes watched out on the city with a bittersweet smile. Something was poetic about this outcome. How after one event, everything else seemed to dissolve into chaos.
Beside her, Hobie pursed his lips at the sight of the city on fire. “That ain’t good,” he commented, staring at the chaos ensuing in your universe.
Riots, killings, and theft. All being committed under your watch. If someone asked you if you’d let it get this bad, you would say no. But whatever was left in your heart from the day before was gone. A thick, black void leaked from the wound. Its presence is only left to show you its place once held love.
Looking over your shoulder, your gaze connected to Gwen’s. It was full of anxiety and pain. “Where were you?” Tears clouded your vision. In a way, Gwen couldn’t help but find you beautiful at this moment. Rain pelting down around the two of you. Water droplets disguising the tears that slipped down your cheeks fearlessly.
But she could also see the pain in them. “You told me you would be here when I needed you! But you were elsewhere. Running around with him!” You waved your hand dismissively toward Hobie, who was confused about how he was brought into the argument. “I trusted you and you lied to me!”
“I had no way of knowing, Y/n. I wasn’t able to come here,” Gwen tried to reason, taking cautious steps toward you. “You have to understand I have no control over this. Miguel-“
A laugh erupted through your chest. It was eerie. Full of anger and frustration. And Gwen felt tiny underneath your hollowed gaze. With each provoking step, you grew larger in threat and intimidation. “Really? You’re going to blame this on Miguel?” You questioned, finally reaching her and grabbing her by the throat.
The action caused Hobie to step in. “Y/n, stop!” As Hobie reached to grab you, your claws drew. Nails swiftly carved themselves into his flesh, paralyzing him–his body becoming numb and crashing to the ground. A grunt fell from his lips as his eyes watched fearfully of your intentions.
Turning your gaze to Gwen, you tightened your grip around her thin throat. Feeling her hands slap at your arm, fingers squeezing around the limb in hopes she could break free. Yet, the struggle only enabled you to lift her off the ground. A blood-boiling rage mounting levels that combatted any level of understanding you held for the girl.
This wasn’t about you losing your sister. This wasn’t related to Miguel or any of the other Spider-People. This was about Gwen. Her promise. Her reassurance that everything would be fine–and you fucking believed it.
She twisted your expectations. Betting on a piece of fiction that was riddled with lies of its consistency to your story. Her words, her whispered lies of misconstrued success–They were all hopeless conceptions to place in your mind. A methodical game of chess that she’s been winning from the first move.
But even with this outlook on her, you couldn’t understand why. Why would she do this? Why would she leave you on your own? Why wouldn’t she just say she couldn’t be there? Why, why, why? Too many questions for a simple answer to justify. And it posed the final question rattling in your head; do you even want to know why?
“If you cared about me, you would’ve been here to help me. If Miles were trusted, he would’ve been here. He would’ve tried to save my sister. He would’ve followed through on a promise.” Clenching your jaw, you squeezed a little tighter, teeth clamping together. The faint wobbling of your lips was evident as your nose twitched in frustration. “What does that say about you?”
Gwen bit her lip, hoping the pain would suppress the stinging behind her eyes. Managing to find leverage with her feet pressing on your chest, pushing away just enough to let out a choked, “I’m sorry.”
Two words. An apology that was not only long overdue but meaningless. Not when you had buried Amelie yourself. When you had to listen to her whimpers, hands holding onto your arms demanding you reveal yourself to her.
Gwen should’ve been here.
“If you’d asked me to be there for you, I would’ve been there in an instant. The same goes for Miles,” you confessed shamelessly. The idea of restrictions on emotions is unveiled by the brutal and honest truth of your pain. Displaying the bitter ink that seeped through your eyes, masking themselves in tears. “And that’s because I love you two too much to see you both be in pain. I would do anything to take that pain and place it on my shoulders. But you lied!”
Through the open skylight of the clock tower, the clouds shifted from obscuring the large rock floating in space. And the moonlight spilled through the glass and revealed Gwen’s tear-stained cheeks. There was a second of hesitance. A flicker of question in yourself. But you pushed it aside, clenching your jaw. “And I won’t let you or any more of us do that.” Grabbing her wrist, you peeled the interdimensional travel watch from her wrist and tossed her aside.
Gwen hit the ground with a thud, rolling across the wet rooftop until she was laid beside Hobie. But when she found you, the portal using the watch was activated. The destination was unknown to her.
“Y/n, stop, please!” The blonde cried. “You don’t have to do this. We can talk about this!”
But you kept your back to her, hoping the ink leaking from your eyes wouldn’t be noticed. “I continued because I wanted to be ready for the day you came when I needed you,” you muttered. “You made me this way, Gwen.”
Gwen leaned Hobie against a wall, placing a hand on the boy’s shoulder as he closed his eyes. She fell to his side, placing her hands over her face. The sunrise. The start of something new.

Anyways do you think Gwen had a rough first few days at the spider hq. It’s established that most of the spiderpeople are the Peter Parkers of their universe. Do you think it took a day or less before she figured out why so many Peters’ voices cracked upon meeting her. Do you think something clicked for her once she was taught about canon events and how some things are common in a lot of universes.
Do you think she wore her mask and hood the next day. Do you think she offered hugs to the peters that sounded as young as her when they first meet in the hallways. How many incredibly awkward yet genuine well wishes for her future did she accept. Which do you think weighs heaviest on her: the guilt that is not hers but that she shoulders anyway or the steel that some of the peters offer her in their eyes (because she changed them but it wasn’t really her but it was her nature) or the dread on her spine left hanging there from extrapolating exactly how many Gwen stacys out there left a relationship frustrated or betrayed or slowly drifted away or worse, much worse, for her (but not her) fate or for peters (but not hers) fate. Do you think she lets it change her too

you’re on your own kid, you always have been
A Gwen Stacy fan-fiction
603 Words
Ao3 link under the cut
*~*~*
A deep groan rolls out of her like a boulder down a hill, throwing up dust and gritting against gravel.
She collapses against the sink, bent over at the hips with her forehead against the cool, marble countertop.
Her breathing is deep, calculated, mechanical. She grips at her abdomen, nails digging in through her suit, her brain blaring at her to stop, that it’s stupid to claw at yourself like a rabid animal, but her fingers continuing to furl anyways like a machine without an off switch.
She breathes, and then she breathes some more, because that’s all she really can do.
Her eyes dart to the side, double checking that she locked the bathroom when she stumbled in haphazardly. She can barely see past the heat in her cheeks, spreading through her as cold sweat breaks against her skin. Her head pounds, her wild mind beating against her uncompromising skull.
She lets a pained moan escape past her lips, but only that one sound. It only takes one small leak to make the whole dam burst.
The cramp yields for the moment, and she can finally rise again. She pushes herself up, teeth gritted and jaw clenched.
She breathes.
And then she breathes again.
She does not look in the mirror, because that’s unnecessary.
She turns around and leans against the counter, lower back where her hands just were. The hard rock digs into her spine like the worlds worst massage.
She brings her hands around and begins needing the muscle, vainly coaxing it to just relent already, just let her take a full breath in without feeling everything inside her shift.
If Miles were here, he’d help her. He’d sputter, a little embarrassed, and he’d look adorable while doing it. He’d run off to grab some ibuprofen and come back as quickly as possible, swinging by in a bright flash of black and red (Red? Did he even stick to that color? Maybe he got a whole new suit, separated himself from his Peter entirely.) His wide eyes would stare up at her (Up? Down, maybe. Maybe he’d gotten taller. Maybe he’d shot up like a weed, persistent life despite everything thrown at him-)
A new pain shoots through her, causing her to double over again as her breath hitches.
Her watch beeps, and she gathers herself just enough to answer it,
“Hey, hi. Yeah. Hi.”
Jess stares back at her, unamused,
“Gwen, where are you? Can you tell me why you ran away from the battle so quickly?”
Gwen squeezes her thighs together, paradoxically scrunching up to stave off the pain of the cramp. Her brow pinches.
“Oh, I just-”
She takes a deep breath,
“I had to use the bathroom.”
Jess raises an eyebrow at her, and her muscles tense harder.
If she lets go, she’ll fall right apart. Her muscles will fall right off the bone and her skin will slip off her face and she’ll crumple to the ground in a heap of body parts, human only in a clinical sense.
Jess looks her up and down,
“Gwen, if we’re gonna work together, you have to be honest and communicate,”
She’s already turning away to deal with some other matter, typing away,
“I have some pain medication and sanitary products. Come get them.”
Gwen presses her lips together. Her fingers curl.
“Thanks, I’ll...I’m on my way.”
Jess cuts the call.
Gwen rests her arm down at her side, watch now silent. She looks at the bathroom wall, and she stands up properly to ready herself to get back out there.
She breathes.
And then she breathes again.

Miles x Gwen.
Warning: Angst.
POV: MILES MORALES 1610.
What is logical? I can not say. The difference is non.
Gwen is standing in front of me at school right now. I'm so joyful. I'm kind of mad at her, but seeing her always makes me feel better.
-Gwen! I'm so happy! What are you doing here?- I asked her. She looked at me in surprise.
-Do I know you?- Gwen asked me. Wait. What? It's supposed to be Gwen, but someone else. There is no shaved part of the hair.
-I'm sorry, I think I mistook you for someone else.- I replied. Yeah. As you can see, this is not the Gwen I know. This Gwen in front of me is her other counterpart.
-But I guess you weren't wrong. I happen to be Gwen Stacy. What about you?- The girl asked with a smile.
-I'm Miles Morales. I mistook you for a friend. Her name is Gwen too and she looks a bit alike.- I scratched my head smiling too.
-What a coincidence. You know, if you want and you don't have too many plans with this friend, we can go to a cafe together and talk. - Another Gwen gave me a proposal. So a date? It's a little unfair to Gwen, but she's not my girlfriend.
-Why not? I have free time now.- I replied and she dragged me to the cafe next to the school. I hope it doesn't end up like I think. Because there's a chance she might be my canon girlfriend in the future, and I'd rather have Gwen.
POV:GWEN STACY 65.
I walk the school corridor in silence thinking about recent events. I miss Miles. I know what I did was wrong, but I want to see him so badly. I wasn't looking at the road so it wasn't long before I collided with someone.
-Oh, I'm sorry.- Said the guy I bumped into.
-You don't have to-- wait. This voice. I looked up and saw Miles.
-Miles!- I raised my voice and hugged him, of course, not with all my strength because he would have exploded. I closed my eyes and he hugged back lightly.
-Do we know each other?- Miles asked confused.
-Of course I-- I looked up. Like my Miles. Everything's the same except I don't remember Miles having heterochromia. That's not my Miles. I took two steps back in embarrassment and shock.
-I'm sorry, I mistook you for my friend.- I said and he laughed slightly.
-Don't worry. It happens to everyone. I am Miles Manuel Morales. You can just call me Miles.- The boy comforted me. So this is a different version of him on my land. It doesn't differ much.
-Thanks. I'm Gwen Stacy. And I'm really sorry about that hug.- I apologized again and he waved it away.
-Nothing really happened. No one has ever hugged me so tight in my life. If you want, we can walk together and talk. I want to know what kind of training you do. - He said and after a moment he blushed.
-Not in that creepy way.- He added, turning his head in embarrassment and I laughed. Reminds me of my Miles.
-Of course. I don't mind.- I replied and he regurgitated the carbon dioxide with relief.
-How about 5 at Central Park entrance 12?- he asked with a smile.
-Yeah bye.- I said, waved at him and walked the other way. What a day.
POV: MILES MORALES 1610.
I looked at them as my Gwen told me about her dad. Is it possible... that...?
POV:GWEN STACY 65.
I looked towards Central Park and saw the wrong Miles in the aisle. Is it possible... that...?

Not my Gwen put her hand on mine and looked deep into my eyes. We are not...
POV:GWEN STACY 65.
Not my Miles shook my hand and looked deep into my eyes. We are not...
POV: MILES MORALES 1610.
She clenched her hand and smiled. Written for...
POV:GWEN STACY 65.
He tilted his head to the side, still waiting for me. Each other?
Probably my first angst. Hey, turn it off. It gets on my nerves. Much better. I hope you liked it. You can find the Polish version on wattpad under MotherMotherIsee. Bye.

If our love died young, I can’t bear witness.
A message to Peter from Gwen’s POV, several years after the night at the clocktower.
read on ao3
Tumblr media
It’s been five years.
I’d know. I still count the days.
5 years.
60 months.
1,826 days.
I used to think the worst part about dying was seeing you all the time. Watching you, day after day, night after goddamn restless night. And I couldn’t do anything to make you see me. You couldn’t see me.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
The worst part was having to watch you fall in love with someone else.
I watched how the life left your eyes when I died. For months, there wasn’t any light there.
And when you met her, slowly that light returned.
I watched the light return from the sidelines.
I watched you slowly open up. You opened yourself to the idea of having friends again. But it was different for her. You knew there was something special about her.
You told her about me, didn’t you?
Your Gwen.
Your path.
The dead girl.
You neglected to tell details of my death.
She kissed you first. After 6 months of friendship. You went home and cried. I watched you sob into your pillow. Dry, helpless sobs.
You said my name. You screamed my name and threw things. Your aunt held you the whole night. You were curled into her arms like a child. You kept saying my name.
You got angry. You were so angry. God help anyone who crossed your path. You didn’t care. You just hurt.
Then you kissed her.
You decided that you needed to move on. It happened fast, or maybe death stopped time. Or maybe not being with you stopped time.
I watched you tell her about your secret identity. I watched her meet May. I watched you fall more and more in love with her. Every passing day. Every passing breath.
You became more in love, and I became more and more aware that I am simply a muse.
The two of you are the painting.
You did everything perfectly. You picked out a beautiful ring for her. You chose the right setting. You asked her father.
I always imagined this. You, with a tiny black box in your hand. You on one knee. Those words I waited all my life to hear uttered from your lips.
“Will you marry me?”
She said yes.
And I smiled, because you look so happy. You pull her into your arms. And you kiss, and the world fades and your senses dull.
I miss falling into that timeless state with you, Peter Parker.
I watched you get married. You always said you’d like to get married in a chapel. Not because of the religion. Because of the stained glass windows.
I always said it was a funny reason for wanting to get married in a chapel.
But here you are. You got your wish.
The service was beautiful. She looked beautiful. So happy. So in love.
And I was so happy for her. Because what a privilege to love Peter Parker.
And what a privilege to be loved by Peter Parker.
This is my solitude. This is my hell.
What terrible things did I do when I was alive for this to be how I spend my days?
Or maybe this isn’t hell.
Maybe I would rather be with a Peter Parker that does not love me than be without a Peter Parker completely.

Tumblr media
Nightmares are a regular occurance for her even if she's sleeping next to you
Paranoid when she knows there are people after her
She doesn't meet in person with you during those times
Keeps contact though, always makes sure to call to tell you she's okay but more importantly to make sure you're okay
Holds you tight when she sees you again
Can't stop kissing you while crying because thank god you're okay after all this
But she isn't,you know she isn't
She hasn't slept properly in days
Always sleeps better when she cn hold you and hear your heart
Has a picture of you in her phone, it helps to look at it when she's feeling stressed
You lend her clothes when she stays over at your place
It brings her a further sense of comfort
Even though know why she's so scared of losing you, she's already lost Peter, you won't push her to talk about it
But you will be a good girlfriend and listen to her when she's crying
You'll have her in your lap and kiss her tears away

Tumblr media
the black cloak and white mask seemed to be everywhere, a constant presence that infiltrated every corner of your world.
it dominated the media— from news broadcasts to social media feeds, newspapers, and even the e!news tabloids. the images from those fateful nights were plastered in front of your eyes repeatedly, each time reopening the wounds and forcing you to relive the heart-wrenching moments.
it all began at a costume party hosted by the notorious playboy, harry osborn, in anticipation of halloween. autumn held a special place in your heart, particularly as it transitioned into the eerie and enchanting season of october. tim burton's movies, with their dark whimsy, were a particular favorite of yours. that's why you convinced your boyfriend, randy, to dress as victor and emily from the corpse bride.
randy was a tall, somewhat dorky guy hailing from a loving african american household. while he had a reputation as an athletic football player, his true passion lay in writing, more specifically the realm of journalism. he seemed like the perfect match for you, and yet, there was an indescribable hesitation lingering in your heart. it wasn't that he wasn't right for you or vice versa, but really a blend of uncertainty and fear. perhaps it stemmed from him being the first guy to actively pursue and ask you out, leaving you unsure of what lay ahead. or maybe you were just grappling with the question of whether he actually fit your ideal type. it was a feeling you couldn’t explain in words.
the corpse bride held a special place in your heart, beyond the fall season. however, it did turn you off how much convincing it took to get randy on board with the idea of matching halloween outfits. after all, it was just a couple's costume. so what was his problem?
the night began on a high note as you arrived at the party with randy. the vibrant lights bathed the room in ever-changing colors. people danced and swayed to the infectious rhythm of the music, while others indulged in halloween-themed snacks and drinks in the corners.
you spotted your friends and decided to join them, breaking away from randy to spend time with his own friends. or so you thought. randy never struck you as the cheating type. with his gentle giant demeanor, he seemed like the perfect match for you— kind, considerate, and driven, basically all the qualities a girl should want in a guy.
but then, everything came crashing down when you caught sight of him in a corner, locked in a passionate kiss with sally avril. at that moment, time seemed to slow to a crawl before abruptly hurtling forward.
“what the hell? this whole time you were acting like you wanted to be with me but instead you’re messing around with the bootleg avril lavigne?” you shouted, the words erupting from your lips.
your eyes locked with hers as she stared at you in disbelief. the look you had only intensified as you saw her weakly hide behind him. you didn’t care if you were disrespectful, that was the last thing on your mind at the moment.
randy's gaze was fixed on you, fear and guilt circling within his eyes as you turned to him. “you are the most trifling man i have ever met. if you felt this way, why not end it? but no, you wanna act like a little bitch and make me come dressed with you just to embarrass me. never let me see your face again,” you declared.
angry that a friend of yours who knew he was taken decided to kiss him anyway. angry that your ex boyfriend couldn’t just do the bare minimum out of respect and tell you the truth, instead being sneaky behind your back. angry that you felt embarrassed and like an idiot for even believing something like this would work out.
as tears welled up in your eyes, you turned away, walking off in a haze of hatred. your friends tried to console you, practically begging for you to stay, but you needed to be alone to process the overwhelming pain. seeking solace, you found yourself outside, rain pouring down, mirroring just how you felt. the raindrops traced a path from your head down to the curve of your nose, mingling with the wet fabric of your dress. in that moment, all you desired was to be alone in the dark with your thoughts, away from the prying eyes of friends, and just calm down.
ironic how you were dressed as emily, considering you felt like the other woman.
it was when you were lost in your thoughts that you heard a a piercing scream reverberating through the house, jolting you from your previous assumptions that it was all part of a macabre party activity. your body tensed, and you swiftly turned towards the entrance, witnessing a wave of terrified people streaming out in panic.
driven by curiosity and a growing sense of unease, you stepped forward, determined to unravel the mystery unfolding before you. as you made your way inside, the scene that greeted you was far from anything you could have anticipated.
the grand staircase, once an elegant display of cream-colored opulence, now bore a twisted transformation. its steps were drenched in a vivid, saturated red, creating an otherworldly and macabre sight that churned your stomach. blood cascaded down in a haphazard and unsettling manner, leading your gaze to the source of the horror.
there, at the bottom of the staircase, lay randy, with a broken neck.
his friend, chad, had turned him over, revealing a sight that sent shivers down your spine. it was evident that randy had suffered a fatal blow to his chest, inflicted by a shard of glass or some other jagged object.
initially, you thought it was just a tragic accident, but deep down, you knew better. you had witnessed the fear and confusion etched in randy's eyes while his body laid limp on the floor. it was clear to you that someone or something had ruthlessly taken his life.
the night wore on as the police conducted their investigation, and you found yourself subjected to interviews, polygraphs, and everything else demanded of you to piece together the events that unfolded.
you still don’t know what happened that night. the weight of remorse for randy's tragic fate bears heavily upon your heart, not in the personal sense of romantic love, but in the recognition that no one deserves to meet such a brutal end. the haunting image of his final moments, consumed by fear and confusion, you couldn’t help but feel guilty.
it engulfs you in sleeplessness, much like tonight. the continuous string of events and criminal activities associated with this enigmatic apparition has caused an overwhelming amount of stress, making it impossible for you to find solace and rest during the night.
frustrated, you let out a sigh and forcefully throw off your covers, reaching for your phone on the nightstand. with a gentle unplug from the charger, you notice that it has sufficient battery to allow you to use it comfortably while lying down.
unlocking your phone with your password, you open tiktok, perhaps the least advisable app to open if you intended to sleep. however, acknowledging the chances of you falling asleep anytime soon, you decide to indulge in it anyway.
as you glance at the corner of your phone, you notice the time reads 11:30. you make a promise to yourself to scroll for just a few minutes before attempting to sleep again.
and so, time passes by, more than just a couple of minutes. suddenly, a ringing sound interrupts your tiktok video, and a notification pops up at the top of your screen, automatically muting the video. the incoming call displays as "no caller id," causing you to dismiss it, unwilling to immediately hang up in case it's a scammer testing the validity of your phone number.
returning to your scrolling, the number calls again. it becomes clear that it's an actual person trying to reach you. annoyed, you press the red button, rejecting the call. almost immediately, your phone starts ringing again, persistently calling you.
clicking your tongue in irritation, you sit up in bed and examine the unknown caller id.
why do they keep calling?
"fuck it," you groan, deciding to answer the call. "hello?"
a profound silence ensues, only accompanied by the faint background noise resembling a gentle breeze.
"hello, (y/n)," the voice on the other end utters.
it lacks a natural quality, instead exuding a cold and detached demeanor, yet with a tinge of arrogance.
"how do you know my name? who the hell is this?" you demand, seeking answers.
the fact that this person knows your name, especially at this late hour, immediately sends chills down your spine.
a deep, dark chuckle emanates from the voice before it speaks again. "wanna play a little game?" the voice asks.
you sigh in irritation. "i asked you a question, who are you?"
silence lingers on the other end of the line before the voice breaks it once more. "don't you want to play? it’ll be fun, i promise," the voice adds, its tone dripping with a smirk.
despite your initial inclination to hang up and leave this peculiar individual to their own devices, there was something about them that piqued your curiosity. the voice carried a feminine quality, although it was difficult to discern due to its thick, apathetic tone. beneath the eerie and disconnected facade, there seemed to be a hint of something more in the way they conversed with you. it was as if they genuinely wanted to engage in conversation.
you scoffed, rising from your bed and catching a glimpse of the night sky. "fine, i'll play. what game?"
you could hear the voice on the other end eagerly patting their thigh in excitement. "good girl, i like them feisty. how about a nice game of truth or dare?" the voice suggested, its eagerness palpable.
feeling a hint of nervousness at being referred to as "good girl," you cautiously responded, "truth or dare? okay. what are the rules?" the sinister yet mysterious aura still sent shivers down your spine.
the voice cleared their throat, adopting a more official tone as they explained the rules of the game. "well, you see, the rules are simple. each player chooses either truth or dare. the chosen option determines what the other player does. truth means you'll be asked a question, while dare means you must perform a task." after a brief pause, the voice continued, "the first player is you. which are you going to choose, truth or dare?"
slowly pacing around the room, you pondered your response but ultimately decided to play it safe. "um, truth," you mumbled into the phone.
"okay then, beautiful. what's your favorite color?" the voice inquired.
you couldn't help but burst into laughter at the simplicity of the question.
"what, did i say something funny?" they whispered through the microphone, clearly perplexed.
"no, no. it's just... for a creepy stranger calling me at night, that was the most ordinary question you could have asked," you explained, a few giggles escaping your lips as you spoke.
although you couldn't see it, you could almost imagine the person on the other end of the line smirking. "what do you expect when you receive a creepy call at midnight from a creepy stranger who knows your name and starts a creepy game of truth or dare with you?" they retorted, their sense of humor evident.
you laughed at their wit and couldn't help but feel a sense of strangeness in going along with all of this.
"what do you want?" you asked once more, silently hoping for a genuine answer.
"what i always desire," they stated nonchalantly, causing a shudder to run down your spine as their voice suddenly adopted a tender tone. "you, of course."
"w-what?" you mouthed, barely managing to whisper the words.
you found yourself utterly bewildered by their statement, but before you could dwell on it, the voice swiftly redirected your attention.
"i think i asked you a question. what's your favorite color?"
"it's (f/c). i practically wear it all the time, or at least whenever i have an excuse to. i even buy things in that color," you rambled, attempting to clarify. "but it's not like an obsession or anything."
"i know all about obsession," the voice responded darkly, taking an unsettling turn for a moment. "i bet it looks stunning on you. not that i would know, right?"
a blush crept up your cheeks at the compliments and endearing terms. it had been a while since you had received such attention. yet, even in those instances, it didn't evoke the same spark as it did now. the nervousness it stirred within you felt oddly exhilarating, unlike anything you had experienced from your boyfriend or the other guys at school.
"okay, i guess it's my turn now. so, truth or dare?" you ask the mysterious figure.
they let out a slight chuckle. "truth or dare, huh? i think i'll go with the truth."
a smile tugs at the corners of your lips as you sense their attempt to put you at ease.
"what's your favorite hobby? or, you know, your favorite thing to do, if you have one," you inquire.
there's a moment of silence on the other end as you patiently await their response. "drumming. i'm a drummer in a band, you know? i've heard girls like the title of being a rockstar's girlfriend," they reply.
you giggle at their comment. "the drummer's girlfriend, huh? isn't it a bit egotistical to call yourself a rockstar?"
"maybe it is, so what?" they retort, followed by a low, raspy chuckle.
another laugh escapes your lips. "that's actually really cool. i've heard that drumming takes a lot of skill and practice. and if you're in a band, then i'm sure you're pretty talented."
"you're... you're really interested in this kind of stuff?" they ask, their tone transitioning from confidence to astonishment. "nice to know a girl like you has good taste. i'm sure you'd love to feel the calluses on my fingertips," they tease.
you can't help but nervously giggle at the stranger's words, a swarm of butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
"now it's your turn," you remind them.
"well, truth or dare?" the voice asks.
"dare," you reply almost immediately.
you hear them let out a laugh from the other end, presumably in response to your eagerness. "bold, i like it," they comment. "i dare you to spin around in a circle until i say stop."
you tilt your head to the side, slightly perplexed by the dare. "are you serious?"
once again, their laughter fills the line. "come on and give me a show, ballerina."
letting out a sigh, you begin to spin around, unraveling into a fit of giggles. you can't deny that you wonder why they chose this particular dare, out of all the possibilities. but it serves as a distraction, and part of you is content with that.
"and stop," they command, and your feet come to a halt, your head lightly pounding from the spinning.
catching your breath, you resume speaking. "happy?" you ask, lacing your words with sarcasm.
"ecstatic," the ominous voice replies. "thanks for the view. as a former dancer, i'd give you a ten out of ten."
maybe it's the impending headache, but you could have sworn they thanked you for the view. which also means they could see you. but that's not possible, right?
"your turn, hurry up and pop the question," the voice commented, its impatience evident.
running out of questions and feeling a mix of confusion and curiosity, you blurted out, "do... do you like girls?"
silence greeted your question, and you mentally facepalmed at your awkwardness.
"oh," they whispered, seemingly taken aback. "i think you forgot to include the truth or dare part, babe."
your voice caught in your throat, leaving you speechless. you felt like a deer caught in headlights, frozen in fear.
"but i can't help it when i see a pretty girl like you so desperate for a response. i don't just like girls," the voice replied, a small snicker following. "i love them."
heat tingled behind your ears, spreading to your cheeks once more.
"how did you, um, know?" you asked, your curiosity piqued.
"i haven't even told you i'm a girl yet, and you're already assuming. i'll take that as a compliment," they mumbled, their tone bordering on mockery. "i just know who i like."
silence fell once again, and you found yourself lost in your thoughts. this inexplicable feeling that washed over you was something you couldn't quite put into words.
"i'll let my curiosity guide me here, but when was the last time you had... intimate relations with someone?" the voice asked, waiting for your answer.
a dry laugh escaped your lips, shattering the silence of your room. "what, my ex-boyfriend? what are you trying to get at?"
"ever thought about having a girlfriend?" the voice asked, its tone now more aggressive and snide, seemingly triggered by the mention of your ex.
the mention of a girlfriend made your mouth go dry. there had always been a certain connection missing from your previous relationships, but you could never quite pinpoint what it was or whether it was something about you or them. the question caught you off guard, but before you could delve into it, the voice steered the conversation back to the game.
"truth or dare?" the ghostly voice asked.
"truth," you replied, this time with hesitance compared to the last.
"okay, truth is... what's your deepest, darkest fantasy? what's something you've always wanted to do?" the voice asks.
"deepest, darkest fantasy? wow, that's kind of corny," you scoffed. "um... it's not really dark, but... i don't know. sometimes i just want to run away and get away from everything. people can be so shitty sometimes, and you reach a point where you just can't deal with it anymore. i think i'm at that point. sorry, that's kind of embarrassing to share with a stranger." you lick your lips as you gather your thoughts. "anyway, truth or dare?"
you can hear the voice chuckle. "i like a woman who speaks her mind. talking to someone about your problems is always nice, especially when they can relate. i think that's a good fantasy, running away from your problems and starting fresh. can't say i haven't ever thought of it," they reply, their tone laced with empathy. "dare, all the way."
it's a little relieving to hear someone who can relate to you, even if they are a creepy stranger.
you come back from your thoughts. "i dare you to tell me your name."
the voice on the other end lets out a laugh as they think about your dare. "oh, alright, if you insist." their tone shifts to sound more flirtatious as they continue. "that's such a boring dare, though." they pause for a moment before speaking again. "my name is... well, you can call me ghostface." ghostface states, their tone a bit more arrogant as they introduce themselves.
"very funny," you scoff, not believing them. there's no way in your mind that you're flirting on the phone with a slasher in queens. "come on, who are you? are you just messing with me at this hour?"
you can hear the voice sounding annoyed by your response, their tone shifting away from flirtatious. "you think i don't have the guts after one conversation? you know what, forget it. i was trying to have some fun with this, but it's clear you don't appreciate it. let's start the game over." the voice pauses for a moment before speaking again. "truth or dare?" they ask, their tone serious now.
"what?" you question, the adrenaline threatening to surge through your veins from how abruptly uncomfortable it got. "truth..."
you can hear the voice sounding eager as you pick truth. "alright then. here's your truth. what are you wearing right now?" the voice asks, their tone sounding flirtatious again.
"my pajamas... why?" you ask, confused and weirded out as your heart begins to pound nervously.
you hear a low chuckle on the other end of the line.
"no reason. it's just hard to make out what you're wearing from here," ghostface taunts nonchalantly, a sinister edge in their voice.
"what the fuck?" you shout out, fear and anger coursing through you.
"well, it's time for the dare. here's your dare," the voice said, pausing for a moment. "i want you to look out your window. take a good look," ghostface spoke, their tone now commanding.
you were too shocked to respond, but you reluctantly moved the curtain aside and peered out the window, surveying the ground below. to your relief, everything appeared normal—nothing out of place or ominous.
"nothing..." you mumbled, your confusion growing.
ghostface chuckled on the other line. "open your window," the voice demanded.
your heart dropped, apprehension seizing you.
"what?" you asked, your confusion intensifying as you focused your gaze on the window.
ghostface's tone became more forceful. "i said, open your window," they commanded, their voice leaving no room for negotiation.
you didn't respond, feeling your breathing quicken over the phone as you grappled with the presence of this mysterious individual. you sensed their frustration as they let out a sigh and licked their lips.
"you know what, how about another round of truth or dare? it's my turn," the voice taunted.
you began to slowly back away towards your bed, your instincts urging you to distance yourself from this unsettling situation.
"truth or dare?" ghostface asked, their tone growing impatient.
but you didn't answer, the scary reality of the moment setting in. fear tightened its grip around your heart.
"truth or dare? don't make me say it again," ghostface insisted.
you remained silent, a mix of fear, defiance, and self-preservation guiding your actions.
"oh, what the hell. no more choices then, (y/n). i dare you to open your windo-" before ghostface could finish their sentence, you abruptly hung up the phone and swiftly pulled the curtain shut, blocking out any further interaction with the mysterious caller.
"(y/n)? c'mon, don't be a party pooper," ghostface said, their tone flirtatious once again as the line went silent. a few seconds later, you heard quiet shuffling behind you, causing your heart to pound with fear.
realizing that you needed to take action, you swiftly grabbed the chair from your desk and dragged it into the hallway outside your room. you closed the door and positioned the chair below the doorknob, creating an obstacle that would make it difficult for someone to open the door, though not impossible.
suddenly, your heart skipped a beat as the sound of glass shattering echoed from inside your room, followed by a loud thud hitting the floor. your adrenaline surged, and before you could react, the door handle began to jiggle violently. you heard the sounds of your belongings being knocked over, accompanied by a loud crashing noise as the entire door shook. the playful tone in ghostface's voice had vanished, replaced by a sinister and threatening tone.
backing away from the door, you clutched your phone tightly, fearing it might break between your trembling palms.
"leave me the fuck alone!" you yelled, your voice filled with desperation. "if you know what's best for you, you'll leave now."
a sinister chuckle came through the door as it shook violently. ghostface sounded excited, his tone now both menacing and playful. "no matter how hard you try to push me away, i'm not going anywhere, babe. so you might as well just... let me in. you don't want me to break this door down. please don't make me."
"i'm not doing a damn thing!" you yelled back, your voice quivering with a mix of anger and fear as you ran downstairs.
frantically reaching for the railing, you rushed down the stairs while simultaneously dialing 911. the operator answered with the familiar "911, what's your emergency?" prompt as you frantically explained your terrifying situation. you provided them with your address and informed them of the intruder's presence in your home.
suddenly, you heard a loud bang. "you know, the police might not get here in time to help you, (y/n)!" ghostface taunted, his words sending a chill down your spine. "who are you going to call for help? your dead boyfriend?"
as the woman on the other end of the line asked if you had a place to hide, time seemed to slow down, reminiscent of that dreadful night at the party. slowly, you turned your gaze upward from the floor below, your eyes fixated on your once-barricaded bedroom door.
"sorry about him, by the way. i tried to talk to him, i really did! didn't go too well," ghostface spoke, his voice laced with a disturbing mix of amusement and regret. "i guess all those muscles didn't help much."
ghostface had broken down the door, and your eyes darted towards the bathroom— the closest room you could hide in— as you shut the door behind you, hoping to buy yourself some time.
"he seemed like a decent guy for you, shame i had to carve him up like a pumpkin. no one really appreciates a good woman anymore. i probably did you a favor, taking the trash out, if you catch my drift," ghostface taunted, his tone oozing with cockiness and a disturbing familiarity with your personal life.
you could hear ghostface getting closer, their footsteps echoing on the wooden floor as they walked down the nearby stairs and stopped outside the door to the room you were hiding in. the sound of their footsteps sent shivers down your spine. "come out... come out... c'mon now. you have until i count to three," ghostface stated, their voice filled with malicious anticipation.
"one... two..."
the constant banging on doors, shaking of doorknobs, and rummaging through cabinets echoed through the house as ghostface searched for you. each sound made your heart skip a beat, and you held your breath, hoping to remain undetected. the heavy thud of ghostface's boots against the floor reverberated through the room before fading away, only to return again as they continued their relentless pursuit. it felt like an endless, torturous game, until suddenly, silence engulfed the house.
"i-i think they're gone," you whispered into the phone, relief tinged with uncertainty evident in your voice as you spoke to the operator.
"is there a nearby exit? anywhere you could run to?" the woman on the other end asked, her voice filled with concern.
you responded with a quiet "yes," knowing that your back door was just around the corner.
quietly, you opened the top cabinet in your bathroom and retrieved a pair of scissors, holding them tightly as a makeshift weapon. you pressed your ear against the bathroom door, straining to hear any signs of ghostface's presence. their footsteps had become distant, as if they had moved to another part of the house. slowly, you pushed the door open, cringing at the subtle creaking it made, and cautiously peeked out. taking a deep breath, you mustered the courage to get up and began walking toward the back door, your eyes fixed on it and the window view it provided. but as you approached, something caught your eye— a reflection.
"three."
you felt a powerful, gloved hand wrap firmly around your waist, pulling you tight against their chest. a scream escaped your lips, swiftly stifled by a hand covering your mouth. desperate to break free, you fought with all your strength, but ghostface's grip was unyielding. the more you wriggled and struck out, the tighter they held you, pressing you closer against them.
summoning courage, you ruthlessly stomped on their foot, causing them to lose their balance. their back collided with the wall, granting you a momentary advantage. seizing the opportunity, you lunged forward, brandishing the scissors, aiming to strike them in the shoulder.
however, just as you were about to make contact, another hand clamped around your wrist, its grip unrelenting. "don't try that with me," a voice hissed. ghostface's grip on your wrists tightened, sending a painful sting coursing through your veins. they forcefully redirected your hand away from them, forcing your arm downward until you had no choice but to surrender. struggling to maintain your hold on the scissors, your resistance faltered.
you released a pained moan as your arm throbbed with tenderness. the ominous figure in the black cloak forcefully pushed you against the counter, causing your hand to involuntarily open upon impact, and your phone slipped from your grasp, clattering to the floor.
ghostface retrieved the phone, briefly glancing in your direction before focusing once again on the screen. "she's busy right now," they remarked coldly to the operator before hanging up.
with one hand, ghostface held the side of your tear-streaked face, while the other pressed the cold blade of the knife menacingly against your neck. fear coursed through your veins as you felt the sharp edge against your skin, the chilling reality of the situation sinking in.
"shhh now," ghostface commanded, their voice cutting through the air. their grip tightened, the blade digging dangerously into toward your flesh.
you sniffled, attempting to steady your racing heart. everything felt surreal, as if you had stepped into a distorted reality within the confines of your own home. the anticipation of impending chaos loomed, but the expected eruption never arrived. instead, an eerie silence settled over the scene, intensifying the disorientation.
a loud sob escaped your lips as you clung desperately to the edges of the counter, inadvertently cutting off circulation to your fingers. ghostface's hold tightened as they pulled back on the knife, the sharp blade now threateningly grazing your skin. their other hand covered your mouth, their grip unyielding. "just stay still. you don’t wanna do anything you might regret, right? now, say, 'i understand,'" ghostface uttered.
their gaze took in your terrified state as their grip gradually loosened and demeanor softened. ghostface's gloved hand tenderly wiped away a tear cascading down your flushed cheek.
"i-i understand,” repeating their words as your voice trembled.
their hands forcefully propelled you to the side, slamming you against the wall. through teary, half-lidded eyes, you gazed up at them as their imposing figure loomed over you.
their hand glided to the bottom of the ghostface mask, gripping the edge of the chin, and with a swift motion, they yanked it off and tossed it aside. cascading gracefully down to their shoulders was blonde hair, adorned with pink-dyed tips and one side partially shaved. their skin possessed an ethereal paleness, and their piercing blue eyes held a mysterious allure. a glint from the moonlight reflected off an eyebrow piercing, adding to their enigmatic visage.
and then it hit you. it was gwen stacy, your classmate.
the last person you would ever have expected. a smile played upon her lips, relishing in your bewildered expression. "gwen...?" you managed to utter, your voice barely a whisper. "-the hell?"
reaching into her cloak, gwen retrieved a voice changer box from her chest and raised it to her lips. "hello, (y/n). surprised?" she asked, a sly tilt to her smile.
"w-what..." you tried to speak, but the words eluded you.
"i know this is incredibly confusing and terrifying right now, but i promise i won't harm you," she assured, her thoughts seemingly racing.
gwen's smile grew, taking on a hint of obsession. "i've watched you for so long... you have no idea how much i've longed to be this close to you. you're such a beautiful girl," gwen confessed, her tone simultaneously tender and erratic. her hand still clutched the knife, and she tilted her head, regarding you with a disconcerting smile. the proximity between you two was impossible to ignore.
"please, just... just let me go, and we can forget all of this," you pleaded, desperation lacing your words.
gwen cocked her head to the side, furrowing her eyebrows. "why forget this? why would i want to forget a moment like this?" her gaze bore down upon you, her once vibrant blue eyes now tainted with a dark ink-like hue, consuming you with an unsettling hunger.
"why are you doing this, gwen?" you managed to ask, your voice trembling and breaking.
gwen shrugged, her shoulders slumping forward as if weakened by the mention of her own name. "fuck, i love the way you say it," she confessed, her tone laced with an unsettling fondness.
drawing closer, gwen closed the distance until your chests were pressed together. in a surprising turn of events, she flung the knife to the far side of the floor, the sound grating against your ears like nails on a chalkboard.
"don't you get it?" she stated matter-of-factly. "i like you. you're the kindest girl in school. honest, pretty, genuine. did i mention pretty? every time we talked, whether it was a small conversation in class or when you defended others from dumb gossip, you always showed such kindness. who wouldn't be drawn to a girl like that? that's why i did it."
your heart felt as though it had been submerged in acid. on one hand, her words melted your heart, evoking emotions you had never experienced with any boy before. however, simultaneously, a sense of violation and terror gnawed at you.
"what... what did you do?" you cautiously inquired, your voice faltering.
gwen reached down and intertwined her hands with yours, their grip tightening. "i killed your boyfriend," she confessed.
your head lowered as you shakily swallowed, the weight of her words sinking in.
"he wasn't right for you, (y/n). who cheats on their girlfriend with their own friends and pretends to care about them? you don't deserve that. you deserve so much more. you deserve everything. he never bothered to remember your favorite hobbies, your preferred makeup style, or even how you write the number five. he failed to appreciate everything you've been through or know how to comfort you, to make you feel good, to be a good boyfriend. if i had you, i would never treat you that way. especially after harry's party," she explained, her voice unwavering. "that night, i was dressed as a ghost because it seemed ironic, considering i'm the invisible loser of the school, right? that's when i saw randy with that girl and you running out crying. no one has the right to make you cry like that, especially not quarterback randy. so i went to confront him, told him how messed up it was. he pushed me, called me just another weirdo obsessed with you. maybe he was right, but the way he spoke of you, the words he used? i couldn't let it slide, (y/n). out of anger, i just threw my glass at his chest, i didn’t expect it to kill him. but it did."
your mouth hung open in shock and fear. gwen's grip on your hands tightened as she raised them higher until they rested at the sides of your head. your mind felt as if it were splitting in two, and your vision blurred. the onslaught of overwhelming information threatened to induce nausea, leaving you reeling.
“and god, did it feel so fucking good to kill him. if you told me all i had to do was get into a fight with your sigma male boyfriend who’s best friend's name is literally chad, just to get noticed by you, i would’ve done if in a heartbeat months ago,” she shouted, beginning to pace.
her eyes were wide, and you could tell just by her talking about it she wa reliving the thrill of the moment.
"i... i don't understand," you stammered, desperately trying to free your hands from gwen's grasp. she watched your movements intently, her eyes locked onto yours. "gwen, you fucking killed someone. why would you do that? do you realize the consequences of your actions?"
on one hand, you were furious that she had taken a life, but on the other, a part of you was unnerved by the intensity of the love she professed for you. it was as if, for the first time, someone truly appreciated your mere existence. you despised how drawn you felt to her, despite the circumstances.
"i don't care about him. i did it for you. i killed for you," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "what man can say that?"
conflicting emotions tugged at your heart. ultimately, you yearned to surrender control and experience her twisted version of affection.
"no one has ever spoken to me like this, and even when they did, it never felt... like this," you confessed, your voice filled with a mix of fascination and uncertainty. "it feels... exhilarating."
gwen leaned closer, her eyes shining with a spark of light. "really? are you serious?"
your heart fluttered at her smile as she gazed into your soul. what was happening to you?
"this is a feeling i've never experienced before, even in past relationships. i don't know... you make me feel special, seen, and desired," you admitted, your voice laced with confusion. "i don't know what's happening to me right now."
gwen's gaze fixated on you, her once cocky smile softening into an expression of empathy. she broke the connection between your intertwined hands, slowly withdrawing one of her own. bringing her hand to her lips, she lightly bit the tip of her glove and sensually peeled it off, revealing her bare skin.
"i can't believe any of this is real," she muttered, her breath caressing your face. "can i kiss you?"
the question caught you off guard, amidst the whirlwind of emotions and confusion. your mind felt scrambled, making it difficult to think clearly.
"yes," you mumbled, your voice wavering with uncertainty, yet your eyes betraying an eager anticipation.
gwen's eyes lit up at your response. "perfect," she breathed before pressing her lips against yours.
your heart began to race, pounding fiercely within your chest. this was the last place you expected to find yourself, and you couldn't help but feel a jumble of confusion and conflicting emotions. "that’s it— just relax... everything will be fine," gwen whispered, her voice now soothing and strangely comforting, despite the circumstances.
you nodded, tentatively wrapping your arms around her shoulders and drawing her closer to you.
gwen leaned in even closer, her hands now tangling in your hair as her body pressed against yours. as she kissed you, your breath caught in your throat. it felt wrong, like you shouldn't be enjoying it. yet, you couldn't deny the undeniable sensation of pleasure that gwen's soft lips evoked.
a whimper escaped your lips as gwen reluctantly pulled away, expression tinged with sadness from the loss of contact. her eyes held a look of longing and desire as they locked with yours.
"that was even better than i imagined," she whispered, her voice hushed but audible in the close proximity.
"i... i think i liked it too," you managed to reply, your gaze averting to conceal the flustered state you were in.
it was true. in that moment, you were completely captivated by gwen like never before.
"i came all this way just to see your beautiful face," gwen commented, her hand firmly grasping your chin to turn your gaze back towards her.
as your eyes flickered between her piercing gaze and her inviting lips, a smile spread across gwen's face. without hesitation, she pulled you closer and kissed you once more. the taste of her lingered on your lips, tempting you to fully embrace the forbidden situation. you knew it was wrong, and yet... there was an inexplicable allure to gwen's soft kisses that made you reluctant to let go. confusion clouded your mind, even as your body responded to the intoxicating sensations. you found yourself not wanting the kiss to end.
a moan escaped your lips as gwen's wet tongue grazed your bottom lip, igniting a surge of desire. your grip on her shoulders tightened, your fingers clawing at her black cloak.
gwen released a soft moan of her own as her tongue gently explored the depths of your mouth. her hands trailed down your body, her touch growing more suggestive. "(y/n)..." she whispered seductively, her voice laced with desire.
once again, your body seemed to revel in the moment, despite the confusion plaguing your mind. her tongue slipped deeper into your mouth, eliciting a whimper of pleasure. the taste and sensation sent waves of ecstasy coursing through your entire being.
conflicted and seduced, you clung tightly to her cloak, yearning for her lips to remain fused with yours as your heart pounded relentlessly.
gwen continued to kiss you passionately, her tongue exploring the inner recesses of your mouth. her touch grew bolder, and your mind struggled to process the overwhelming sensations. it all felt so wrong, and yet your body responded eagerly to gwen's every move. the kiss felt irresistible, betraying the rationality of your thoughts.
your hands instinctively trailed up from her shoulders to the nape of her neck, lightly pulling at her hair for support. another moan escaped your lips, blending with hers, as gwen positioned her leg between your thighs, creating a tantalizing friction.
gwen's hand firmly gripped the back of your neck, pulling you even closer as her lips devoured yours. the tension and confusion intensified within your mind, but despite it all, the physical pleasure of being so intimately entwined with gwen tantalized your senses. the sensation of her body pressing against yours caused a subtle squirming response. you couldn't deny the pleasure that coursed through you, even as the situation felt inherently wrong.
for a fleeting moment, your lips disconnected, allowing you to lock eyes, but the magnetic pull between you drew you back in. you leaned in, kissing her again with a primal hunger, your hands gripping her in an instinctive and passionate manner.
you found yourself gasping for air, your breaths ragged and desperate as you tried to replenish the oxygen you had forgotten to take in during the prolonged, intense kiss.
gwen pulled back, her head tilted to the side, a thin string of saliva connecting your lips briefly before she wiped it away with her gloved hand, smearing it aside. her messy blonde hair framed her face, and you noticed her chest heaving up and down, mirroring your own heavy breathing.
nervously, she asked, "can... can i take you out on a date?"
a smile spread across your lips, unable to resist the pull of excitement. "i'd like that," you replied almost instantly, catching your breath.
suddenly, the blaring sound of police sirens echoed through the block, their blue and red lights reflecting through your window. it seemed, for once, the police had arrived promptly.
"way to ruin a fun time," gwen scoffed, annoyance evident on her face as she stepped back. "i think it's time for me to go."
despite the interruption, you couldn't help but be captivated by how attractive gwen looked in that moment. her hair was tousled, her lips plump and bright red from your passionate kisses, and her eyes held a smoky allure.
"police, open up!" a voice yelled from outside the door, the knocking growing more forceful.
you glanced over at the door, which shook violently from the pounding, the sound of the sirens threatening to drown out your senses. when you turned your attention back to gwen, she had already retrieved her mask, putting it on over her head and securely fastening it. she removed her glove, then picked up the knife from the floor.
"so, about that date, how about saturday?" she asked, a smile gracing her lips.
you couldn't help but match her mood, the excitement bubbling within you. "yeah, that works," you answered eagerly.
gwen fiddled with the voice box, adjusting it before placing it back into her costume. "i can't wait," ghostface remarked, the iconic voice returning.
before you could respond, she swiftly made her way to the back door, disappearing into the night just as the police burst through your front door.
as the police stormed into your residence, the chaos unfolded. you were momentarily overwhelmed by the commotion, the loud voices, and the flashing lights. the officers quickly apprehended you, their stern commands blending with the cacophony of sirens outside.
moments later, the scene shifted. you found yourself sitting in the back of an ambulance, surrounded by paramedics who were checking you over for any injuries. the blaring sirens had been replaced by a steady hum, providing a strange sense of calm amidst the chaos you had just experienced.
one of the paramedics, a kind-faced woman with a gentle demeanor, asked, "are you feeling alright? can you tell us if anything hurts?"
you took a deep breath, trying to gather your thoughts amidst the adrenaline coursing through your veins. "i... i think i'm okay," you replied, your voice shaky yet relieved. "just a bit shaken up."
the paramedic nodded understandingly, her gloved hands skillfully examining you for any signs of physical harm. after a thorough assessment, she reassured you, "physically, you seem to be alright. however, it's important to take care of yourself emotionally too. if you need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to reach out."
you offered a grateful smile, appreciating her empathy in the midst of the chaotic aftermath. "thank you," you said sincerely. "i'll keep that in mind."
“we already reached out to your guardian so they’ll be here soon, just rest up,” the woman stated before walking off.
as the paramedics finished their assessment and went to speak to the police for whatever further evaluation, your mind wandered back to the unexpected encounter with gwen.
something about this situation felt deeply unsettling. not only was gwen a killer, but her behavior had crossed the boundaries of normalcy into something much darker. the realization of her true nature sent chills down your spine, prompting a wave of revulsion.
however, you couldn't deny the conflicting emotions that had stirred within you during those fifteen minutes with gwen. for the first time in your life, someone has shown you such profound attention and affection, making you feel loved, appreciated, and even worshiped for simply being yourself. it was a heady mix of excitement and nervousness, emotions you had never experienced to this extent with any previous crush.
as you whispered the word "crush" to yourself, a sinking feeling settled in. you couldn't deny that you had allowed yourself to become entangled in a dangerous situation.
deep down, you knew that going through with the date was a sick and misguided decision. it went against your better judgment and morality. the allure of the attention and desire overshadowed your rationality, blinding you from the bright red flags waving in front of your face.
but you are your parents' daughter, so maybe you can fix her.

gwen plopped herself down on the edge of the bed next to you, her expression full of dismay and aggravation. you looked over at her with a semi-fretful gaze. "what happened, gwinny?" you asked her as she sighed and looked into your eyes. "it's my dad, again..." she muttered as she covered her face with her hands, falling back down on your bed as your eyes followed her. you lay down on your side next to her and gently asked her in a whisper if she wants to talk about it. gwen breathed in deeply removed her hands from her face and looked at you from the corner of her eye.
"oh, where to even begin?" she asked aloud to nobody in particular, smiling ever so slightly in an ironic manner as she looked up at your ceiling. she didn't speak for a few moments, until she finally found the strength to open up, even by a tiny bit. she opened up about how her father has been putting a curfew on her, after hearing her sneak back into her room after her nightly patrols. she got mad at him for enforcing that curfew, and he got mad at her for not realizing how all he wants is for her to be safe. "he just wants to feel at ease, like he's not... like he's not failing as a dad." she grumbled out as her eyebrows scrunched up a little as her gaze towards your ceiling morphed into a glare.
"i get how he wants me to be safe, bravo for you dad, but... at least i come home. you leave all the time, what difference does it make if i'm not there at home? what difference does it make when we're both on patrol, we're both concerned about the city and each other, i have your back, it's just... you don't know i'm the one doing the saving, which is good for you." gwen ranted as her voice became softer, as if her inner turmoil had simmered down and hearing her speak her thoughts out was less gratifying than she thought it'd be. gwen breathed in deeply as you moved closer to her, not tearing your eyes away from her one bit.
"i know how you feel, kinda. i sometimes feel like my parents never want me to have any fun, but at the end of the day... they do it for a reason. might not always seem like good reasons, but trust me when i say that among all those reasons," you placed a hand on her shoulder, which caused her to look at you with eyes shimmering with twinkles of shame in them, slight shame that she spoke about her father that way, but they were still gleaming with confusion and frustration, "his love for you as your dad is the biggest reason of all." you finished with a smile as gwen's expression went from agitated to remorseful.
gwen leaned over towards you and pressed her forehead against yours. she gently took your hand in hers and interlocked your fingers together. "thank you... well, i have a lot of explaining to do the minute i get home, then. can't really tell him i've been spider woman for the night again, but i can't really tell him any other made up reason. i just... i want him to stop worrying sometimes." she confessed as you squeezed her hand. you chuckled as you brushed away her hair from her forehead. "he's a dad, he's supposed to worry." you reminded her as you kissed her forehead. "and it's okay." you said as gwen wrapped her arm around your waist and hugged you.
"i guess... sorry i had to dump this all on you when you're supposed to be sleeping." "gwen, never be sorry for letting off some steam. you work so hard to save people you don't even know... and yet you're hesitant about saving yourself. let me save you, at least once for all the times you've saved me." you said as you hugged gwen back. gwen couldn't murmur a 'thank you' anymore as she felt like that wouldn't be enough to do you justice. she held on to you tighter, wishing this moment could last longer. she swore to herself, though, that by tomorrow morning, she'd say sorry to her dad. she'd say sorry and express how she doesn't want to worry him, how she wants nothing more than for him to be at ease, to trust her. and she hopes that one day, she'll be okay with him, they'll be okay with each other; and she has you to thank for helping her realize this.

Part One

“Miguel, we need to take this seriously!” Gwen followed behind the man, Hobie and Jessica in tow. All three of them share the same kind of anxiety revolving around your disappearance top priority. Along with the fact that across the spider-verse, there have been people plucked out which has been causing more trouble for Miguel than he thought he had before.
“And I told you before that we can’t just act blindly. Y/n hacked the watch and we can’t track her,” he reminded, stopping at the terminal Spider-Byte was working at. The screen displays multiple scenes of news outlets across the infinite universes covering the fact that many villains had simply up and vanished. Which in itself was creating problems that needed to be solved, fast. “If you and Hobie had done a better job apprehending her, then this wouldn’t have become my problem-”
“She did it because you told her she wasn’t allowed to save her sister, Miguel!” Gwen exclaimed, silencing the man. “What did you expect to happen?”
Gwen had played that night over and over the past few nights. Waking up in a feverish sweat, trying to piece together how things could’ve been done differently. But she knew the answer was simply, “I should’ve been there.” And she couldn’t change the past, but it didn’t change the pain that she felt knowing that things could’ve been different. That and maybe, somehow, saving your sister would’ve caused a revelation for not only herself but Miguel.
But what hurt just as much was her telling Miles the news. She’d been forced to see him crack. Left only knowing that she was the cause of the disaster and she wouldn’t be able to fix it.
“I trusted you to handle it,” Miguel barked. “You were reckless, foolish!”
“That’s rich coming from the man who wouldn’t go and deal with it himself,” Hobie commented. “You are the reason all of this is happening. You gave her hope by telling her when it would happen. So, don’t go tryin’ to pass the blame on one of us, mate.”
The sudden blaring of alarms grabbed the team’s attention. Their eyes flickering to the door and spotting many people running and yelling. “What the-” Hobie froze as the ground shook with a loud crash heard far beyond the doorway. “That can’t be good.”
“Byte, put the facility on lockdown!” Miguel ordered, sprinting in the direction of the commotion. “The rest of you, with me!”
They followed, sprinting toward the door and stopping just outside the entrance to see the chaos in full effect. Many of the Spider-Men were fighting, but their force was matched with villains from all different universes. Much like Miguel had been seeing for the past few weeks. It had become full chaos and there was no telling the full-scale disruption of the multiverse that could occur the longer this kept on.
Plucking a villain out of a universe was one thing. But if a Spider-Man was to die from a separate one? There was no telling what could possibly happen.
But at the center, Gwen could see you. You were hanging from a web in the distance without your mask. A smirk on your lips as you watched onwards.
“I got Y/n!” She announced without so much as a warning, swinging forward. Leaving the other three to deal with any villain they could pick off.
Moving through the sky, dodging, punching, and kicking to get to you, Gwen kept a cautious eye on you. Doing her best to watch your movements as she dealt with Doctor Octavius before moving on to an Electro.
But as when she went through each villain with a certain finesse, her sense flared up. Causing her to turn and was kicked into the air. Her body met the concrete wall that ripped the air from her lungs. Barely able to catch her breath before her throat was grasped and she was tossed into the gym facility in the headquarters. It was silent and dark beside the glow of certain lights along the floor or walls.
She was quick to get to her feet, battle ready. Again, her sense flared and put her into action. Spinning on her heel and catching your wrists. Nails baring, ready to slice into her flesh and paralyze her.
A sickly-sweet smile pulled across your lips, eyes wide and crazy. “Long time no see, Gwen. Miss me, sweets?”
The look in your eyes wasn’t normal. Not by a long shot. There was something in them that was close to unhinged. Like all former switches that made your eyes shine had been turned off, revealing a darker side of you to her. And she didn’t know if she should be scared or hopeful that she could use this against you.
Gwen groaned, sweeping your feet out from under you and using her grip on your wrist to perform a hip toss, forcing your body to the ground. She straddled your waist with your hands pinned on either side of your head. “Y/n, stop this!”
Planting your feet on her chest, you kicked her away, sending her colliding into a beam. Flying to the floor, panting with a sharp erupt of pain followed up the lower part of her back. Rising to rest on her knees, finding you standing on your feet. “This could ruin everything, Y/n. Do you not realize the untrackable amount of problems you’ve just caused?” She spat. “The multiverse could collapse because of you!”
All you could do was laugh.
“You wanna take the moral high ground now? Fine. But I will not stand by and act like you all have a higher understanding of what you believe to be the truth,” you exclaimed, pacing side to side. “You sat by and let my world fall apart!
But it’s not too late to change that.” Gwen frowned, shifting back slightly as you approached her. “You allow the chains to bind you to rules that were never yours in the first place.” You crouched down in front of the girl, hands cupping her cheeks as you whispered, “Break free, Gwen. We can show them the truth. It could be beautiful.”
And there was a brief pause of compilation written on Gwen’s face. Lips parted and eyes relaxed as she weighed the options. The negatives and positives. She was fated to see the path you’ve been down and feel the pain you felt at this moment. And she had to decide if she would submit to algorithms Miguel had discovered or take a chance.
But she wasn’t given enough time to mull over it because she heard you gasp sharply, eyes widening in shock. Gwen watched for a few moments until she caught sight of Miguel approaching from behind. “She’s good, Y/n.” You coughed, blood dripping from your lips as you fell onto your side and let out hoarse breaths. But Miguel shed no sliver of emotion. A simple look in his eyes with a shrug as he said, “Thanks for the offer though.”
Gwen stood to her feet, holding her side with her gaze focused on you. Watching you exhale shakily, resting in a suto fetal position. Hand pressed to the ground as you tried to sit up. But the stab wound in your side prevented sudden movements that could affect the area.
“We need to contain this problem as soon as possible. Every single person in this building needs to help.” As Miguel continued to bark out orders, Gwen’s gaze was unwavering on your trembling figure. Finding your eyes lifting to hers, face tensed in pain as you tried to find your bearings.
She couldn’t understand it. How could you go from one extreme to another? The easiest answer was that you were angry. Anyone would think and do irrational things if their emotions were wildfire like yours. But Gwen knew that you were beyond reasoning or understanding. Because one thing she absolutely was certain about it was this…
Amelie wouldn’t want this from you.
“We’re going to be choked up for the next few hours, Miguel,” Peter B Parker spoke up, cradling Mayday in his arms. “It would be great to know if you have some sort of invention that could speed this up.”
“Miguel isn’t capable of that. And don’t expect much from him. He’s prone to leave people disappointed,” Gwen stated, turning from you and shoving a shoulder into Miguel as she walked past.
“She was a danger to everyone, Gwen. And as far as this goes, you should be thanking me that I saved your life,” Miguel spat at the young teen. “She was going to kill you and everyone in this facility if I didn’t stop her.”
A shaky and unnerving chuckle echoed in the training hall. It gaged everyone’s attention, turning to find you smiling, spitting blood onto the pristine floor. Nose twitching as you pursed your lips, jaw clenching as you exhaled heavily. Forcing yourself to your feet, growling, “You…”
You staggered, knees buckling beneath you where you placed a bloody hand to catch yourself. Strangling a groan as you clenched your jaw. Lifting your gaze to find the core four. The four that had been there to give you the news of your story. A dilemma that they knew you wouldn’t stand for, even if there had been nothing you could’ve done. And the pitiful look in their eyes made you sick. They didn’t say they were sorry, but you could see in their eyes. But they were too late. “You stand there, y-you, judging me, acting all high and mighty from your ivory tower. But you all are one bad day from being in my shoes. You just can’t see it yet.”
They didn’t move. Not a single person. All in their own collective headspaces, mulling over your words. But Miguel, he straightened his stance. Appearing bigger than he truly was as he said, “You have put everyone and everything at risk, Y/n-”
“You know nothing! You don’t know what it takes to wear this suit! You are nothing, Miguel!” You yelled, waving your hand with a pained grunt as you forced out, “Everyone knows it.”
The room was painfully silent with Miguel’s expression unchanging by your words. But you knew that in some way, your words struck him. He was a fragile human. And it only took a few buttons for you to press to finally receive the reaction you wanted so desperately from him.
And that’s when you smiled up at him, whispering, “Even your daughter knew it.”
His nose twitched and his teeth bared, anger being ripped from deep within his chest and put on display for everyone to see. He charged at you with his only intent being to pull your head off. But the other three were quick to stop him, restraining him quickly.
But you still laughed in amusement, stepping to your feet that wobbled beneath your weight. “I see I struck a nerve.” You sniffled, waving a hand toward Peter. “If you had to lose your daughter, would you listen to what Miguel had to tell you? That you had to allow her to be taken from you?”
His silence that followed answered your question. Making you let out a short laugh. “None of you understand the pain. But you will,” you whispered. “It’s just a matter of if you’ll allow him to dictate your choices.”
They all stood amongst one another silently as Jessica took the initiative to put the cuffs on your wrists. Forcing you to walk down the platforms that lead to the G.H.M. and left to look upon the chaos of your decisions had caused. Spider-Men were injured and the villains were all restrained. And you believed they got what they wanted. Hurting and attacking a thousand or more Spider-Men for them was like a birthday gift. But with how quickly it ended, you got no closer. All you wanted was to hurt Miguel and destroy everything he built.
But all this did was end with you being stabbed in the back and tossed in a holographic cage with blood dripping, pooling around you. A needle plunged into the side of your neck, forcing your muscles to relax. Your eyelids were heavy with exhaustion as you stared at the open space in front of you.
Voices around you seemed to hollow out. Their figures morphed into melodies that further numbed your mind. All of it became meaningless the longer the drugs swam deeper and further into your bloodstream.
It took the tapping of a finger against the shield surrounding you to extract you from your thoughts. Tired eyes flickering to your left, finding Gwen crouched with soft eyes directed toward you.
“I’m sorry for what happened to Amelie, Y/n. If I was there, maybe we wouldn’t be here,” Gwen stated. But with your eyes flickering away from hers that was beginning to cloud up with tears, she moved closer to the cage wall. Her eyes squinted as she shook her head, muttering, “But you know this isn’t what she would’ve wanted, right? She saw you as a protector, not a destroyer.” Your nose began to burn, lips wobbling as you clenched your hands into tight fists. “And despite what she saw when you put on that suit, she saw her sister.”
You stayed silent for a few moments. Lips pursing faintly, parting to exhale shakily. And there was hesitance in meeting her gaze. Finding the pain in her eyes too much to bear and take accountability for. Because you didn’t regret what you did. But god dammit did her crystalized eyes hurt you knowing that you were the cause of her sadness. “You… Y-You ever wonder-” You coughed up blood, droplets wetting the back of your hand that dropped to your stomach. Slowing your breathing as you said, “Before the p-powers: would you go back? Go back to your childhood and just be young and unaware of everything?”
Gwen bowed her head, sniffling as you chuckled softly, glancing over at her. “I think I might have to find a way to get rid of these powers, you know?” Smiling through the tears, you shook your head. “I don’t deserve them after all of this.”
Your curled legs swayed slightly, the drugs slowly easing your mind from the pain. Or it could’ve been the blood loss that was slowly fracturing your attention span. The heaviness of your eyelids growing. The formulation of words drifted in brief pauses as you smiled at the girl, whimpering out gratefully, “I don’t have a chain on me, Gwen.”
The way you said it, the relief in your words, it pained her. And stroking your neck, as if a metal collar had been irritating the skin, made her realize how trapped you must’ve felt with all this knowledge. Because she knew the moment you found out about your canon event, a noose had been placed around your neck. It tightened each day that drew closer to your cataclysmic moment. But now, you seemed glad that it was over and that you went out how you wanted to.
And seeing her tears slide down her cheeks made you smile. “Hey.” Gwen sniffled, nodding, seeing your lips quiver as you said, “I’m free from all of this–my way. Not Miguel’s. Not theirs. Mine. And there isn’t a damn thing they can do about it now.”
Licking your lips, you stared off into open space. Eyes layered with deliriousness that mounted with each moment. Then, Gwen saw your lips curl slightly, tears brimming as a soft chortle slipped past your lips. “Amelie.”
Gwen felt her face twist, bowing her head–hearing you painfully crawl across the box and press your hand to the holographic wall blocking you from freedom. “Oh, I missed you so much, kiddo.”
“Can you finally come with me?” Amelie wept, pressing her hand to the wall where yours was.
Smiling, you nodded as a sob racked your body. Sniffling harshly, forcing yourself to swallow the lump stuck in your throat. “I think so, sweetheart,” you whispered. “We get to run off into the sunset. Just like I promised you.”
“Gwen.” You called for her, finding her shaking her head, wiping fearlessly at her eyes. “Hey, baby.” The pet name finally forced her to meet your broken gaze. Seeing your body glitch, yet, your expression still held a proud look despite the tears streaming down your cheeks. “Amelie forgives you.”
She let out a sob, covering her mouth as she nodded in understanding. “That’s good. I’m thankful,” she forced out. “I wish you had more time with her.”
“I will, Gwen. You will too when the time comes. We’ll be back together.” Reaching for her, sadly, your hand met the cage wall. Fingers curled slightly, hoping to break through it and feel her touch one more time. “And I forgive you.” Her face twisted again, tilting her head slightly, wiping her eyes frantically as you continued. “My soul mate. My best friend.”
Gwen was sobbing, pressing hers over yours. It made you smile. Vision beginning to blur with your thoughts slowly drifting and strength in your body dissipating. It was nice. The freedom that came with it. No worries in sight. Merely the warm touch of Amelie’s hand on your shoulder. Her eyes were bright with happiness and tears of relief. And the choice between another day or ascensionism. Ascension to a place where you knew was the only outcome. Somewhere you belonged.
And Gwen watched as your eyes stared at her softly, able to whisper out. “We will be waiting for you at the sunset.” Your bloodied hand fell with your body slumping against the wall. Leaving Gwen to sob, pleas falling from quivering lips.
And the sun fell with the darkness of night taking its place.

Imagine being Spider-Gwen and showing up at this Spider-Verse meetup and 90% of the people there are alternate versions of your dead best friend. They’re all grown, too—as the person he would have grown to become if things were different, if he’d had the chance to grow up. You’re surrounded by ghosts of him. Ghosts of who he could have been.
And then you realize that every single one of them looks at you like you’re the ghost.
Every single one of their Gwens died.
In every other universe—in every other universe—you died. You are dead, everywhere, everywhere but here.
You only lived in yours because your Peter died instead.
Was that trade worth it?
