y'know i just realized that 'characters whose internal magic system is fucked' is a bit of a theme for me
hanni
as aurene's champion they're always soaked in her magic. they aren't really branded but you can definitely tell they're a dragon champion based on their magical signature
as i mentioned before, they absorbed a part of balthazar's magic, which changed their own magic's signature more towards fire
but even before that they unconsciously started walking a very perilous line as they absorbed a lot of latent natural magic just by being the idiot who jumped at any weird magical stuff happening (and ate a good amount of it)
on more grim days they're just waiting to go up in a big explosion
but it's fine! they're working on a solution with taimi! everything is going great!! (sometimes they wonder what would've happened if they jumped in front of ankka's extractor instead of aurene)
they actually used to dabble in alchemy and elixirs but balthazar's magic messed it up entirely for them and most of what they brew now ends up as great explosives but isn't doing what it's actually supposed to do. at least the pact demolitionists are always happy about the results
leikkya
the experiments she was subjected to as a kid included her getting exposed to a low amount of magic continuously for years
while her body had gotten used to it over time, the abrupt cutoff after being freed messed her up again
i'm not entirely sure yet how i want the effects of that to go about but she might be a little addicted to magic. only a little though. it's fine
and two more peeps under the cut because this whole thing got so long
sade
while nowadays their weapons of choice are a disapproving frown, harsh words and noticable disappointment, they used to be an exeptional warrior
they're also old as fuck so when it comes to magic seem to have only improved, both in their control of it and the amount they can wield
but re: that being messed up
there were Things Happening and a sacrifice (though more borne out of a desperation not to die) that didn't work quite as planned and they got the whole magical essence of their closest friend a companion dumped into their own
which generally wouldn't be too big of a problem, but things can't be easy around here. the internal magical essences of the two aren't exactly compatible due to being of very different species and there still being a certain amount of intent left in the dead companion one's
they've had many years to get used to the dichtomy and figure out how to make it work for themselves but it can still flare up from time to time (and fire magic in the archives would be utterly disastrous)
it also seemingly came with immortality. joy. (it's actually just an extremely long lifespan and a.... let's call it failsafe against dying)
laerus
he's probably the least affected in his personal use of magic by the Events That Happened To Him To Make Him That Way out of all my characters but still
glossing over some stuff right now to keep this from devolving into a whole essay he has some souls attached to him (and is attached to them in turn but only emotionally)
there was a failed ritual and lies and betrayal by someone they all trusted and now laerus is the only one with a body, the voices of his allies in his head and some 'minor' temporal displacement
technically he's kind of a revenant now? but none of the other's were really all that powerful magically (and still aren't) and mostly it's made him really good at strategy, human royal ceremonial tasks and observation (spectral eyes that can see behind him are eternally useful). it's also distracting as hell
he's still mainly a necromancer, his soul and magic just have more people attached than what's common
it has made magic trickier for him since he needs to make sure he isn't drawing on the others' magic, but mixed into the usual necromancy green is some blue colour wise

"Remembrance in the Labyrinth" by DOOT
I just had to make another piece of art like I did last year celebrating Dia De Los Muertos GW2 style! Headcannon is that after everyone vanquishes the Mad King and Steve, the Labyrnith offers a chance to visit and pay respects to loved ones and comrades that have fallen. 💜💜💜 And don't forget the flowers and facepaint!!! 🥰

My new headcannon for the Norn is that they are shapeshifters. I know, I know, no duh they can turn into bears. But not just that, that they adapt as a whole like super quickly, like 1-2 generations quickly. Boom, the reason norn even look human is because once upon a time they lived more closely with humans in the past maybe? They are tall as all balls because they then lived with the kodan and charr nearest them? Canthan faces? Boom some norn made it to Cantha as they went south and adapted. A few of my norn are minimum height, who is to say it’s not because they’ve been around humans for so long again and that’s slowly dropping their height? I seem to remember them being taller in GW1 too come to think of it.
Idk, just a random thought I had at midnight.

I’ve never really had a cosplay character, and what with all the cosplay contests going on this time of the year decided lucky number 38 would get to be one! I give you Tiffany Miyamura!
Her name’s a mashup of the names of her VA’s in the anime, English and Japanese, and the character is Asuka Langley Soryu from Evangelion! Of course that meant I had to get a shot of her on the made up to look like an Eva skyscale lol.

Another character of mine I adore with my whole heart<3!! This is Miren. He was actually my first character in gw2 lol So here I am too scream into the void about another sylvari I'll either do headcannons for Miren and Teaghuee oorrr I'll talk about Neyval and Nowlyn or maybe another character we shall see ANYWAY Miren rambles!!
So! Miren awoke in 1316. He awoke with the dream of protecting Tryia. With no wyld hunt to follow he trained learning to use a bow and found a fern hound pup who he creatively named Wolfy. They are always together. He ended up joining the order of Whispers in 1320. He climbed up the ladder with Tybalt and ended up in Claw Island with Teaghuee and Trahearne
The pact has started! He basically represents the order of whispers when in meetings and ended up getting close too Larainthir during this time. They ended up with a sibling relationship the kind of one like "you arent getting my phone charger but id give you my kidney if you need it" Things go according to plan and Miren helps out fighting the dragon of death Miren continues too work within the pact. Until the plant dragon. Miren was one of the sylvari that fell the voice of Mordrumoth. Shortly after the crash Miren found his way to Larainthir's camp and held out there for as long as he could. He's not truly sure how long he had been under Mordrumoths control but based on how the corruption affected him it wasnt very short. He stayed in the jungle until found with Teag. He followed the commander like a lost puppy for a while before finding his feet and functioning more like Canach does with the Guild Miren can still hear an echo of his creator but nothing more. It gets worse when he's alone and or its too quiet. I will continue too ramble later i need me some sleep

My personal Gorrik headcannons !
Hi! these are my personal headcannons for Gorrik ! Please enjoy, and remember these are headcannons, it’s my personal takes on what we know, and what the game gives us. So with no further do, let’s begin !
- He is stronger than he looks like, why i say that ? because of this:
Tumblr media
Excuse me Gorrik, 5 CAVALIERS ??? So yeah, don’t mess with Gorrik (nor Blish nor Taimi) if you don’t want to get your ass kicked .
- Gorrik have lots of scars on his left arm. It’s due to his experiments (remember Petey growing under his skin) and since he study insects he might sometimes get stinged by them.
Which not only make his left arm less viable (i imagine him as originally ambidextrous), but also more resistant to maybe some venoms/poisons)
- Gorrik is an Holosmith, that mean he can technically wield sword, not that he would want to, but he can. Do what you want with that info.
- This phrase that Gorrik say:
Tumblr media
makes me think that Gorrik himself got disappointed by somebody, i don’t know who could it be, but for me it might be the reasons him and Blish joined the Inquest. Again do what you want with that info.
- Gorrik is not used to compliments coming from people other than his brother
Tumblr media
I swear that’s how you react when you are not used to such compliment, GORRIK YOU ARE BABY.
-He can be and is a picky eater, it fit the fact he is on the spectrum, even if just looking at him and the way he act makes me think that.
- Last and non the less (it kinda is related to a ship but honestly i feel like it’s going to be cannon a day or another): Taimi calls him “Cuddle Bug”. Like... come on... im 100% sure that would be a fitting name, he may not look like it, but he definitely is a loving person, who got lots of love to give, in his own way of course.
Sometimes Taimi, when talking to other peoples about him, let slip accidentally that nickname, which is embarrassing for both of them. It’s cute and funny, leave me alone.
Ok i’m done with my headcannons for now, hope you like them ! Again, Gorrik is baby!

Norns are spread out in homesteads all across the Shiverpeaks. Hoelbrak is like a central hub thing. Mainly, these homesteads all share the same main religion (Spirits of the Wild), but they all have different cultures and physical appearances. The further North they are, the more culturally different they are. Also hc that Norns from the far far North are darker in appareance.
Similarly for Charr, different 'groups' of Charr will share specific physical aspects.

haikyuu characters as kinds of guild wars 2 players (pt 1)
this is purely self-indulgent and i thought it was funny so i’m making it a series. pls play gw2 and/or watch haikyuu if you haven’t already omg,,,
warnings: language
-
here for the story journal and nothing more. bought heart of thorns when it came out and simply became depressed. definitely not in a guild because interaction makes them nervous
takeda, USHIJIMA, iwaizumi, matsukawa, AONE, osamu
has spent thousands of gems on armor skins and outfits and waits in highly populated areas for people to PM them about their drip. mastery level is somehow like 348
TANAKA, nishinoya, LEV, makki, koganegawa, kiyoko, suna, ATSUMU
actually understands how the engineer class works. no bc these ppl are scary intelligent
yamaguchi, kenma, akaashi, kita, tsukishima
lives vicariously through their main and RPs with other players in chat. you can never tell if it’s satire or not either sjshdskh
yachi, asahi, YAMAGUCHI, ennoshita, alisa
annoys everyone by consuming like thirty tomes of knowledge at once right next to you at bank npcs so for a minute all you hear is this “SHEEEEOOHHMMMPHHHWAHHH” sound over. and. over.
KENMA, yaku, lev, NISHINOYA, kageyama, saeko, tendou, terushima, SUNA
rezzes you to 99% during combat and just fucking runs off
oikawa, sugawara, TSUKISHIMA, yamaguchi, kiyoko, KENMA, kuroo
abandoned all morals to fully devote their life to baby aurene (understandable)
yachi, kiyoko, hinata, kita, LEV
spends HOURS leveling up their cooking skill. you’ll always find them either at the cooking station or harvesting random shit in different areas
hinata, asahi, daichi, alisa, iwaizumi, sakusa, OSAMU, yachi

sorry if you didn't want this lol

~Magic Cats~
Ssso this has been sitting in drafts for too long, time to post it regardless because I want to talk about the different legions and magic because other people have been talking about cat lore and i have Many Thoughts and also no one on this site is capable of stopping me now.
A read more here because oh boy a suggestion of conversation topic somehow turned into an entire essay because I have absolutely no self-control whatsoever. (Might also be a Yahuk appreciation post at this point. Also, just a... general warning for a society failing its people and causing all sorts of insecurities and general mental un-health, mostly involving failure to conform to expectations. Also mention of death.)
Flame
So! First, Flame Legion. Clearly, they have a bit of an advantage at the moment because they never really lost magic? Even after the whole truce thing, they're still clearly using it, and best boi Efram seems intent on letting everyone learn it. It doesn't seem to be exclusively magic they're using, not quite- there's a half-decent bit of engineering in some of their weaponry, and they still compliment their smoke magic with knives. Granted, it's... definitely primarily fire magic. I'm not sure if that's jut more natural, or if, say, more water-based elementalists or mesmers just aren't allowed as much status (or encouragement) as those that can use fire.
Iron
Iron legion, as a very stark contrast, seems... very, very opposed to magic. I don't recall ever seeing an iron charr use magic. Create things to contain magic, yes- primarily ghosts- but use it? There's plenty of engineers, for... maybe obvious reasons, but I couldn't give you a clear example of an iron legion elementalist. (Feel absolutely free to prove me wrong by posting many pictures of iron legion elementalists, though.) Heck, it's Efram that suggests it, but adding a 'flame legion kick' to Iron's weapons being an entirely new idea seems a little... telling. Heck, it's not hard to imagine using magic to improve your weapons is seen as 'cheating', at best.
Drawing off the 'Iron Fist of the Legion' personal story, it's pretty clear that Iron legion is incredibly strict. Samona (my precious, precious child whom I hold dear to my heart after re-reading two lines of dialogue from her) is quite literally banned from inventing for letting an Ash Legion charr into their super-secret-weapon base (that Ash already knew about because they're Ash), despite the fact that she only did so to stop Flame (who also knew about it) from sabotaging the entire thing. Good intentions don't matter- strictly following orders does. Her centurion describes the legion as a 'siege engine'- everything has to be predictable, and in working order- and, well... magic, as far as the legions are concerned, is anything but predictable.
Blood
Blood legion, while probably still biased against them, seems... less strict. I could, in fact, name a blood legion elementalist- Yahuk Fellstrike. I'm probably going to be going off a lot of his dialogue here, but you can get a lot from what he says after you rescue him from Flame in the ash legion story mission. The fact that you can specifically ask 'how was being an elementalist in blood legion' is... pretty telling in and of itself, and he admits that some officers got upset about it, but neither Rytlock (good on you, bud) nor his warband really cared. So it's definitely discouraged, still, but not outright banned. Then, in the next question, you ask about him joining your warband in Ash, and he says the officers were rather upset about it- heck, Rytlock only agrees to it because he likes you. (I fought one ghost with you sir I do not understand-) It's also worth noting that it seems like Rytlock called the mission in the first place- though, granted, he might have personal reasons for liking this particular warband. (Eyes Crecia) Still, Yahuk evidently gained enough respect that charr other than Rytlock and his warband didn't want him to leave.
There's also probably plenty more examples of magic-use in Blood legion, the obvious one being Crecia (though between her clear experience with subterfuge and poisons and and offhand comment about Rytlock around grothmar involving 'keeping it in the legions' I had to verify that she'd never somehow gotten Ash training somewhere, especially considering the 'why can't we just set them on fire instead of this sneaky sneak nonsense' that Yahuk's journal makes pretty clear, and honestly she miiiiight be a bit of an outlier bc Bangar seems to be kinda Like That sometimes). It's harder to be in blood legion and use magic, but if you can clearly destroy your enemies without mercy you'll probably be more-or-less fine. (Besides the inherent mental damage that having to work significantly harder than everyone else to prove yourself in a society that very much values aggression and violence causes, but like. They won't actively prevent you from ever using it or ban you from the legion. Just a bit more trauma, you’ll be fiiiiiiine.)
Ash
And then... and then there's Ash legion. I'm going to talk a lot about it because it's where my Commander's from and I have a lot of Feelings about it, but there's gonna be a lot of subjective stuff because we don't really know a lot about them? We don't know their homeland, don't know much about their imperator, don't have a lot of Big-Name-Characters in the story from that legion besides their imperator- heck, even being in the legion as part of your personal story doesn't give you much. But, from that and how other charr talk about them, we can gather that... well, no one else knows anything about them either, and... Iron and Blood don't seem to like them very much? I don't consider anything in Bangar's speech when he’s praising them to mean anything on this point because it's... Bangar, but there's a good few instances of other legions' charr clearly vocalizing distrust and a general distaste. (Yes I'm looking at you, Ryland. Stop teaching Braham these things. Rude child.) Generally, the theme is that they're untrustworthy and cowards in combat- which... well, no, you don't send Ash to the front lines, you send them behind the lines. (Them and Crecia, apparently. This isn't to hate on Crecia, she's wonderful, this is me being very very suspicious of every single one of Bangar's motives- actually I could probably make a whole other post comparing her and Yahuk at this point, but this is long enough already;;;). But you know what else most Blood and Iron charr generally find to be indicative of untrustworthiness and cowardice, to the point of being shunned entirely or having to overcompensate for existing?
Magic.
I don't have any other solid evidence for it, but... it's Ash legion, there's no solid evidence for anything so I do what I want. And it makes... sense. In Ash, who makes a better spy than a mesmer? Who can spy on Flame better than an elementalist? Sure, charr find magic users more shifty in every legion, but you're in Ash, you're shifty by association already. Judging by the interaction between Rytlock and Torga (in the previously mentioned Ash personal story), it seems that Ash doesn't like other legions involved in their business. (They just want to be involved in everyone else's business.) They do what they want, how they want to do it, just so long as it gets done. It's a bit hard to judge, but they don't seem to have the rigid order the other legions do- and, diving just... right into speculation territory, I'd like to think this allows their fahrar's cubs to develop a little more... naturally? The lack of emphasis on being a fighter or some sort of engineer means that warbands of all sorts of skills and specializations could result, making the legion more versatile- something incredibly useful for a legion focused on sabotage. Sure, the easy way in is having a bunch of thieves, but if you can have an axe-and-torch-wielding ranger in your warband and still get the job done? Yeah, sure, you'll just get different missions. Have a lot of engineers? Great, you can spy on Iron. A lot of fire elementalists? Cool, go dismantle Flame from the inside and incite rebellions. Have a lot of mesmers? Imagine the possibilities. Just, y'know, know that we have seven other, better mesmers watching, and if you betray your legion you die. Different combinations, letting cubs grow up into their own skills, only means you can very likely have at least one available warband specifically tailored towards any mission you could ever want- any charr could be Ash, because an Ash legion charr is allowed to be anything.
...Except liked by the other legions.
Going back to Yahuk's case, beyond simply being good enough to gain the respect of his legion, it's very possible that joining Ash is seen as a... downgrade, an option for charr who aren't quite good enough for their own legion- a sort of catch-all. Yahuk seems to join you because a) his warband's dead (and finding a new one as an elementalist probably won't be easy), b) you saved his life, and c) helping him murder a whole bunch of the charr who murdered his warband probably gives you a whole lot of respect points. The 'officials' don't want him joining Ash, even when his whole warband is dead, and again- Rytlock only agrees because he respects you personally.
And then, going back to Samona... her own agreement to join your warband is quick and happy enough, which might be a mix of her own personality and various other reasons- but talking to her centurion is probably the most telling. Despite the harsh punishment, he doesn't really seem to dislike Samona. He says most of those she'd worked with would still be her friends, doesn't refute her being sweet and clever- but he does believe she'll do better in Ash, rather explicitly so, lamenting that he couldn't give her the flexibility she needed to work well while she was still in Iron- but an Ash legion warband could give her that. Despite how little the other legions know about Ash, what they do know is that they allow that sort of flexibility, that they have use for Charr that just don't fit in other legions; their 'Square cogs'. Even Samona, who... likely doesn't have an ounce of subtlety.
Now, Samona doesn't seem to care much, because... she's Samona, and neither would any charr raised Ash, but for any other charr, proud of their legion? Having to join Ash is signifying of a failure to be who you were raised and molded to be. Plenty might rather become gladium. Even for magic-users, it's the easy way out- and, clearly, neither Blood nor Iron have any respect for 'easy'.
And... boy, for Yahuk...? He might have joined out of respect for you, but then... you left. For someone who'd likely tried so hard to gain the respect of his own legion... what does that say about him? He knows why he joined, who he is, but that's not clear to anyone else, and Ash doesn't value the same things Blood does. The respect he's managed to gain means nothing to them. His ferocity means nothing to them. The leader he respected is gone, and evidently, isn't coming back- what does he have left?
...
...So, uh.
Anyways, tldr, magic in flame is normal (when it's fire, at least), magic in iron is outright heresy, magic in blood is only okay if you're really good at murder, and magic in ash is actually just fine but no one else likes them so it doesn't really solve anything.
...And Yahuk needs therapy. Like a lot of therapy. Please let him have therapy.
Thaaat being said, this is the impression I got playing through as an Ash legion charr, and I’ve probably missed a few things. Feel absolutely free to critique!

Something that Ive noticed on Guild Wars Tumblr
I noticed that a lot of people ignore the fact that Trehearne died after HoT, but I abosultely LIVE for the AUs people have for their commanders if Trehearne was still alive.
And ive got to say, keep up the good work! Although we dont know for sure if Trahearne is dead (ive read many creative theories that he is still somewhat alive) I love reading all the ideas and stories about Trahearne.
If y'all have any headcannons for your commander or about Trahearne pLEASE spill I want to hear your ideas and I'm bored in class ;w;

🍅 and 🥔 for imani!
another lesbian!!
🍅 [TOMATO] How misunderstood is your OC? In-universe or IRL.
pre-lws3/PoF not really? she's fairly direct and straightforward, which people sometimes mistake as rude, but usually her no-nonsense attitude and detailed instructions are appreciated. especially when it comes to the military side of the pact, which is her area.
after being killed by and then killing balthazar in return... many humans either wrongfully assume that they understand why she did it or straight up refuse to see her standpoint. one of the priestess' of balthazar who imani had been very close to since she was young renounced her 'because she doesn't see the person she knew in her anymore'. despite the rocky start of their acquaintance ('from the ashes' my beloved beloathed), zafirah is actually one of the few people who truly understands imani's now complicated relationship with the god she revered for so long.
irl not really since i haven't talked about much her yet and hopefully i understand my own oc ^^
🥔 [POTATO] What do they have that others see as a flaw, but they don't care about?
gotta be honest this is very hard to answer for her and has been on my mind for the last three days lmao. i think it's the fact that she shows very little hesitation about taking matters into her own hands when the 'official' way is too slow or too corrupt. especially once she became commander this caused quite a few problems for the pact's pr team and almorra, despite usually agreeing with imani's assessment of the situation but not her solutions, has had a lot of headaches trying to smooth things over with whatever law enforcement or government imani pissed off in the process.
it's an attitude that carried over from her time as an active warden for the church of balthazar she'd been a member of since she was born. they had a certain amount of freedom for action outside of the law that they often used to the full extent (in most cases to help victims of violence and abuse, although they certainly weren't free of corruption and people working for their own gain).

Whos your favorite OC right now? What’s their most appealing traits/themes to you? 👀
I got a couple favs at the moment but Ryan definitely takes the cake right now. She's a relatively old OC but I recently got back into the game she's from (guild wars 2) and all her shit got brought at the forefront of my mind again and I'm like (shakes fist)
there's so much I love about her, I'm not even sure where to start lmao
she's a sylvari, a race of plant humanoids who emerge fully grown and retain the knowledge of the sylvari before them, to a degree, they're not a hivemind though, each sylvari being its own person. besides being mentioned that they don't have a heart but do have a digestive system in one (1) article, how the sylvari work is largely unknown which is great for headcannons
I'm really pleased with her visual design as well, but I think at the end of the day the thing that really appeals to me about her is the story, both what I've created for her and the actual gw2 story
she's technically only 15years old as a sylvari, though she'd likely be in her late 20s - early 30s as a human. She emerged from her pod with her twin brother Wyn and went straight into a proto-reality world war (whatever the fuck means, wiki) where they fought for 5 years, losing her brother in the process. Coming back from that, she was thrust into commanding and then leading an alliance against the dragons trying to destroy the world, along with every other world disaster and none stop crisis for like 10 years so like my girl ain't got no fucking sleep
and the plot points or things she's been through that literally drive me insane thinking about are, pretty major spoilers SO IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SPOILERED FOR GW2 GET OUTTA HERE
having to climb up a seemingly endless tower built like a maze, full of hallucination inducing poison, having to fight enemies she's not even sure are truly there, just to get to the top to put a stop to it
trying to save a city that no only was bombarded to hell and back, but was also filled with a toxic miasma, which still affects people near a decade later - bonus points for all the civilians screaming in the background while you're trying to find your way around the ruble
sylvari turns out are, or at least were, dragon minions and the dragon they come from straight up just talks in their head while they're trying to kill him (you don't get that if you're playing as another race)
the commander (aka Ryan) literally, straight up died to the hands of a fire god, who toyed with her the entire fight, and she then had to claw herself out of the underworld, spurred on by the anxiety of what will they do without me
this antagonist throwing it in her face that everything she's done in a desperate attempt to save the world is actually making it worse and the world actually needs saving from her
almost canonically died. again
there's probably more but like you get the point - she's not alright 🙃

I think it’s time i rant why i ship the Commander with Caithe.
And not specifically MY commander, but the general commander character. (which is why i don’t care that my Commander happens to be male)
I don’t even know where to start... i guess for clarifications:
I personally don’t feel either way for Caithe. I guess i like her but she wouldn’t be on my top 10-20 favourit character list.
When i first played Guild Wars 2(yes my main character is my first ever character) i played through with the mindset that i am this charr and i will make the choices that i think will save the most lives(lel.... later on i learned it didn’t matter). So when i plowed through the personal story of the Commander i was in the mindset of “I AM A CHARR!!! AND IN THIS WORLD OF CONSTANT BATTLE I AM THE DEADLIEST WEAPON OF ALL!” (also mild Denalien influence but Denalien is intertvined with my being so... let’s not go into that)
I LOVED that Rytlock was badass and unflinching and angry i guess in simpler way: Charr = GW2′s version of orks(WoW) which means Rytlock = Thrall but actually badass.
By pure coincidence i made the choices that made me meet with mainly charr characters and it made me believe it’s because i chose charr that i meet charr. Later on i learned that... no... i just chose the paths that made me meet charr.
Queue in the story instances from 10 to 80, and past-kehideni notices a pattern. Rytlock is not the one that your character connects to the most.
I know, the letters you get are all from Rytlock when you are a charr, but the one other person Arenanet pushes your Commander to connect with is- you guessed it- Caithe.
Twilight Arbor- now you would argue Rytlock Logan and Caithe but Rytlock leaves before you start fighting any nightmare court and Logan after just a bunch of spiders. Canonically, it’s just the Commander and Caithe. Nothing actually that i’d noticed when playing through because the Commander only asks questions from Caithe that i’d want to know anyway. However this instance literally has established a connection between the two that later on gets referenced in a throwaway speechline with someone you’ll be surprised by. We’ll get to that.
Sorrow’s Embrace- Eir, Zojja and Caithe: the Commander asks Caithe for information (of course, who else. Not like they can ask Zojja at that moment, but these are all just starting off things)
Honor of the Waves- Eir and Caithe: the Commander tells Caithe to shut up and let Eir come to the right conclusion herself which makes me laugh to this day xD (This is where my personal meme comes from “Shut up, Kyle Caithe!”)
Ruined city of Arah- the Commander sasses Caithe. Basically in the story instances the Commander and Caithe work towards the same goal, to reunite Destiny’s Edge.
Things happen in the between though: There is this quest where Trahearne and the Commander enter a vision of the Pale Tree. In there, the Pale Tree tells the Commander that they MUST reunite Destiny’s Edge and this is where Twilight Arbor greets back a bit.
When you walk past the members you hear them talk to each other, blame each other.
Caithe however stands out because she isn’t talking with one of her friends, she talks to Faolain. The crazy part is that in this vision you are not supposed to AND can’t talk to any vision-npc.... that is except for Faolain herself. But let’s see what happened beforehand:
Tumblr media
Narratively speaking when a character says they are alone and tired, it’s supposed to elicit protectiveness from the viewer and/or empathy.
Tumblr media
“So here i am a bulky a** charr, why is her love life any of my buisness?” - very emotional quote from kehideni of the past
Tumblr media
Aaaaaha... sure whatever you say Trahearne, but wait.. because here comes the kicker. The ACTUAL kicker where past-kehideni went
Tumblr media
“Wait jus- hold on just a minute here...”
Tumblr media
Faolain that was awfully possessive of you, i’m a big a** charr. What competition would i be in this future-vision to you? And then the Commander says “I won’t let Caithe fall into nightmare.”
A little bit of extra:
Tumblr media
“Pft... whatever... you’re just her ex.” says the Commander. :v
In Arah Caithe thanks you for saving Destiny’s Edge (also interestingly she is the chosen companion npc as she’s the one that resses you if you get downed) and at the end of the fight she says that all of Tyria is in the Commander’s debt. Ok ... casual stuff. She’s been thanking the Commander left and right that day. As if she didn’t drive home the fact that she’s grateful she thanks the Commander once again at the end party and also is the one to suggest the Commander should go after the rest of the Elder Dragons too.
The next you meet her is the Aetherblade path in Twilight Arbor, the narrative distances Caithe from the Commander. By this time canonically they are friends, duh. So it’s like a friend has a side the Comm didn’t know so far. Nothing interesting yet, let’s hurry on.
She attends the summit, of course she does. You can’t talk with her.
In Echoes of the Past Comm saves her, their talk is still friendly but distanced. I do want to note that Canach and Caithe are so similar in attitude xD
Tangled Paths: Comm goes up to her to talk and she says “don’t mind me” and proceeds to follow you around and friendly-mocks you as “boss”. We know NOW why, but not back then. This is important because not long before this i realised that the Comm can’t possibly be me. It’s MassEffect’s case of Commander Shepard. You controll them but they are their own character and your choices have only slight weight in the story because the Commanders’ choices are already set in stone by the actual writers. What you CAN do is write the WHY parts, and this is soon the part where my writing interferes with actual canon but you’ll see my reasonings.
When the Comm talks with Caithe she’s the most civil with them among their allies. (We later learn it was to keep the Comm. in the dark.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The beauty of this scene is that Caithe WILL learn why a mother can’t keep their eyes off of their children.
Tumblr media
“Is that a problem?” “Not for me.” Still can take this line as civil but kinda funny line in hindsight. (Get it? Because it will be a problem for them.)
So Caithe’s betrayal happens, and the Comm is FURIOUS!
Tumblr media
Lol my charr is too tall, but the shot was meant to place the Comm face to face with Caithe because in the next shot she looks them in the eye and goes for the egg.
When Marjory notes that Caithe is a Sylvari the Comm goes defensive “So? What are you trying to say?” Their friend would never do that- is what narratively they want to convey, but later on in HoT the Comm reacts so harshly to her betrayal i took the wheel a bit.
I mean let’s add up what the Comm knows: Mordremoth created the sylvari, he has mental access to them, he can mind controll them, fool them if they are too strongwilled to do his bidding. Caithe is a sylvari with a strong will. If she betrayed them it’s not of her free mind. It’s like the victim-blaming when a girl gets drugged and they take her body to do as they please. Try as she might she wasn’t clear in the head but she made it clear later on that she didn’t want to betray the Comm. Why would she after all she can be thankful for to the Comm?
So what gives? Well in my mind, the only way to rectify Anet’s nonsense writing(they should really stop reading GW2 reddit forums, not a good place to be influenced with) is to give the Comm a reason to take it to heart a bit too much, say... if they were harboring feelings for her. In my mind it adds up.
So HoT happens, and Caudecus is making his move.
Where next you meet Caithe: Out of the Shadows. (fitting title for her, huh?)
I’m just gonna link the video with timestamp, that whole part is reconciling:
https://youtu.be/AABguDwhieE?t=2612
At this point the writing of GW2 seems to take a chillpill so i go with the flow. The Comm realising that he overreacted inspects himself: Why? This is the part the Comm realises that “oh sheet, they got them feels.”
Aurene hatches, Caithe is there.
The first time the Comm is voiced in LW and he jokes around with a character it’s with Caithe.
Comm: “I’d feel better if someone i knew was watching the chamber.”
Caithe fishing for the one line that would reassure her that the Comm talking with her actually means that they are ok with her now: “Someone you trust?”
Comm: “Yeah, so... could you ask Taimi to get her right away?”
Caithe relieved her relationship with Comm is safe: “You’re joking with me, i take that as a good sign.” They talk around a bit more, they are healing and that’s adorable.
Later on she thanks the Comm for letting her prove herself to them by looking out for Aurene.
Path of Fire happens, she’s like throwaway-ly mentioned by Taimi.
I was all, “Well, goodbye Caithe you got Zojja’d, it was a good headcannon while it lasted” but THENNNNNNN ARENANET THROWS ME THIS
Tumblr media
Like... are you fkin’ kidding me. This line alone means that she’s been stalking the Commander IN STEALTH ATLEAST since they met Zafirah in Sun’s Refuge!!! THE BARE MINIMUM SHE SAW FROM STEALTH WAS THE COMM GOING IN ON A SUICIDE MISSION, HOW ABOUT SOME HELP YOU CONNIVING VEGETAB- sorry... my personal annoyance at her came out.
Back to story, after this All or Nothing happens where the Comm and Caithe are confirmed parents of Aurene. When Aurene branded Caithe only the Comm asked if she was still herself, not even Rytlock nor Logan, the actual two people who know her longest. The Comm and Caithe are constantly paralleled next to Aurene as her “champions” because dragons apparently don’t have parental bonds*sarcasm* :V
Requiem happens and Rytlock himself says he sees it now. Coincidentally as of writing this he is going through the very same trauma Caithe and Comm went through when Aurene died.
Caithe calls for Comm to return to her because she needs them, and the Comm tells everyone they should go and spend whatever time they have with people they love. Implying that Aurene is who Comm loves but then again Caithe is there too. The 3 of them were going to spend the last of their lives with each other. (not saying they don’t love the rest of the group, but had they decided to leave, the 3 would still stay together.)
As from War Eternal to till now their co-parental connection is getting stronger.
