"like a wild animal gnawing off a leg to escape the jaws of a trap, i force myself to find new places to call home. inescapable choices to deal with inescapable tragedies. i just worry that i only have so many legs to stand on, and one day i'll fall and hit the basement of loneliness."
what is the nature of sacrifice?

HELPPPPP in 2x10 naka-choko when hannibal and will are eating dinner... mahler’s 5th symphony in c-sharp minor movement iv (adagietto) plays...
mahler’s wife (alma) told composer willem mengelberg in a letter that the piece was originally a love song for her--writing the poem in the letter. mengelberg wrote in his own copy the poem mahler wrote.
it reads: Wie ich Dich liebe, Du meine Sonne, ich kann mit Worten Dir's nicht sagen. Nur meine Sehnsucht kann ich Dir klagen und meine Liebe, meine Wonne! / In which way I love you, my sunbeam, I cannot tell you with words. Only my longing, my love and my bliss can I with anguish declare.
The Mahler score that Fraser is looking at in Perfect Strangers looks like Symphony No. 9, but the piece of music we hear - that he hears in his head - is a bit of a mystery. Is it from No. 9 or some other symphony? Is it Mahler at all? Is it a Mahler-esque piece created by the music department? Is it even Mahler-esque (I can't tell)? Is it Fraser's own idea of No. 9? Does he just pretend he can read the score? Is he putting up a performance to confuse/amuse Ray? Help! Link to the music is in the comments. (EDIT: We have it! It's Symphony No 4, but oddly mangled. Link to the original Mahler is now in the comments, too.)
Honestly I'm amazed he is holding something that looks like a real Mahler score. It could just as well have been a bunch of blank printer paper and no-one would've noticed.
(Other Mahler scores may have been printed with the same cover, but the only ones that came up in image search right now were No. 9, so I'll just assume it's that one. Anyway, props to the props department.)
If you are like me and are currently going ape over Yellowjackets' use of "Frère Jacques," have this brilliant moment from Mahler's First Symphony, where he transposes it into a minor key and uses it as a funeral march.
I love the mahler quote along the lines of “I’m banging my head against the wall, but the walls are giving way” because out of context it seems like he’s saying something about being emotionally damaged or whatever, but in context he means “I pester the authorities so fucking much until they give me what I want”
