Dimensions of Rift
| Repost: Originally posted by Maeve on July 29, 2013
In my recent break from all things Guild Wars 2, I’ve been trying out some of my old MMOs that have gone free to play. My most recent stop has been back to Rift. This is a game that I always admired because I thought Trion really had it “right” when it came to listening to its customers. I didn’t really give the game a fair try though. It released while I was pregnant and gave me terrible motion sickness.
Playing it again now, I alarmingly found that it did the same thing with a weird rubber banding issue. A quick search turned up the culprit to be something with the Razer Naga mouse. I replaced the mouse and I can play Rift without needing Dramamine.
I fully admit, one of the main draws back to Rift is player and guild housing. I love this kind of fluff and yet few games tend to include it. I was happy to find that I had enough loyalty points for a free dimension, Faen’s Retreat. And along with it, a starter pack of goodies with which to decorate. I also had enough gems to buy some basic decorations (there are several options for 1 gem only).

One of the things you can do is visit other player’s dimensions if they set them to public. LotRO had a similar set up. It really is amazing to see what other players are able to do with some imagination and building materials. The current #1 dimension on Faeblight (I say that not knowing really if the rankings are game wide or server wide) is Gullik’s “The Witchdoctor’s Grotto”.

I haven’t started exploring the guild houses yet (on a complete side note, CoT does have enough points for a guild house, just FYI). I’m not sure yet how long I’ll stay in Rift. Maybe if I can drag myself away from being a housing tourist, I can decide how much I like to play the game.

I just finished Ghosts of Ascalon...
Tumblr media
thoughts and spoilers under the cut
Kileen’s death legit made me cry
I FUCKING CALLED IT FUCK YOU RIONA
The imagery of ascalon city just filled with skeletons everywhere is so fucking cool
Nenah is neat and all but how cool would it be if Kileen became a guide for the souls that ended up in the domain of the lost.
And it would make sense that she would end up there because.... ;.;
I thought it was funny when Gullik was like “Eir Stegalkin used to be a great hero” but also that really underlines the fact that Eir didn’t do much outside of the year or so where she ventured with Destiny’s Edge and I’m not going to go on and on about how her being forced to give up Braham or pursue her legend doesn’t jive with the actual facts about what she was doing in the lore but Still.
Ember Doomforge Is My New Goth GF
I had always wondered what the deal was with the secluded glen, and now that I know I’m gonna cry whenever I map comp fields of ruin.
I thought the cameos from Logan and Rytlock were nice and I liked how their respective underlings were scared shitless of them but then when Gullik brings up Eir he’s like “yeah she’s ok I guess”
I knew you could find Dougal in game, but I didn’t know you could also find Ember and Gullik! I love it when they do stuff like that.
Overall, I liked this one just as much as I liked Edge of Destiny!
I also payed attention to the amount of Mentions of Horses in this book, and there were none, as opposed to the two from Edge of Destiny.
I haven’t been able to find Sea of Sorrows in my local bookstores, and if I can’t find it soon I’ll probably order it online. I know pretty much nothing about it so I’m excited to read it!

#leestip #gulliverstravels #jonathanswift https://www.instagram.com/p/CW_nL1yN2En9vRPT72paV0zYJfbnw0-MkrT8WE0/?utm_medium=tumblr

The recreation of Gullik Horridus. Since Gullik was my first polymer clay figure, I tried to make him better and made a detailed tutorial from it. Kongsberg Digital Launches New K-Sim ECDIS Cloud-Based Training Solution
Kongsberg Digital (KDI) launches of K-Sim ECDIS, the latest in a successful line of cloud simulation solutions the company has produced for the maritime training sector.
K-Sim ECDIS has been designed to provide generic ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display & Information System) training in compliance with the requirements laid out in the IMO/STCW Model Course 1.27. Accessible as an online training solution via the company’s digital platform K-Sim Connect, it enables schools and training centers to efficiently provide their students with high-quality ECDIS training anytime and anywhere, without the need for major hardware investment.
Based upon several key elements from Kongsberg Maritime’s real-life K-Nav ECDIS, K-Sim ECDIS accommodates all the relevant and necessary functionality for instructing students in the key operations of electronic charts, route planning and navigation. The system will be delivered as a complete training package and include ready-made simulation exercises.
Seamless integration with school-based simulators such as K-Sim Navigation and K-Sim Radar will allow for highly effective blended learning, combining cloud-based and classroom instruction with the benefits of full flexibility and availability for the instructors and students.
K-Sim ECDIS’ route planning application supports import and export of the commonly-used RTZ route format. This enables exchange of routes to any ECDIS system, whether installed at the school for type-approved ECDIS training, or onboard a ship. This means that in addition to its training benefits, the route planning solution can be used to relay voyage plans from ships to management teams on land, who can then recommend and optimize main and alternative routes.
“Having blazed a trail for high-quality, cloud-based simulation applications in the maritime training sector, we’re delighted to add K-Sim ECDIS to our portfolio of solutions,” says Andreas Jagtøyen, EVP Digital Ocean, Kongsberg Digital. “This is a vital supplement to KDI’s ever-expanding catalog of products and services, at a time when flexibility and accessibility are more important than ever to instructors and trainees alike. It will be an invaluable asset, not just for training purposes, but also in decision-support contexts in the future.”
“Our first cloud-based training solutions provided via K-Sim Connect have indeed been received with great success, and the new model will surely accelerate the value of cloud-based training for our customers,” comments Gullik Jensen, Product Director Digital Services, Kongsberg Digital.
K-Sim ECDIS’ route planning and validation application, K-Sim Planning Station, will be available as a stand-alone system in June this year, followed by a roll-out of the complete K-Sim ECDIS solution by fall 2021.

New designs unveiled for Norwegian government headquarters following 2011 terrorist attack
The part of Oslo's government quarter damaged during the 2011 terrorist bombing will be replaced by one of two proposals – one by a team including Haptic and Nordic, and another by a team featuring A-Lab and LPO Architects.
Statsbygg, the Norwegian Directorate of Public Construction and Property, organised a competition calling for proposals to redevelop the Regjeringskvartalet, an area containing several ministry buildings, so that it meets new security requirements.
The Regjeringskvartalet, and specifically a block housing the prime minister's office, was the target of a car bomb attack on 22 July 2011 that killed eight people and caused significant damage to several buildings.
Two winning teams were selected in the competition – although only of the two designs can go forward.
The first proposal for the Oslo government quarter is by G8+, a team that includes architecture studios A-Lab and LPO Architects
The first team, called G8+, includes architects LPO, A-Lab and Ratio, as well as interiors studio Iark, landscape firm Gullik Gulliksen, engineer Sweco, and consultants Norconsult and Dr Techn Olav Olsen.
The second, called Team Urbis, is made up of architects Nordic and Haptic, engineering firm Ramboll, landscape studios SLA and Bjørbekk & Lindheim, and consultants Asplan Viak, COWI, Aas-Jacobsen, Per Rasmussen, Scenario and NIKU.
The design creates a new square and continuous pedestrianised routes that weave between a cluster of private office buildings
The proposal by G8+ deals with the public domain and, in particular, the creation of a new square and continuous pedestrianised routes that weave between a cluster of private office buildings.
"The proposed concept makes the government quarter an accessible and active part of the city, while representing a responsible, safe and democratic state," said G8+. "The project focuses on the public spaces and the lower, active floors of the project."
Public facilities are distributed across the ground floors of buildings, while bridges create connections on the upper levels
The large footprints of the buildings allow lower volumes to achieve the required internal floor area. Public facilities are distributed across the ground floor, with particular attention paid to the articulation of the facades at this level.
Suspended above the public areas, a series of bridges create connections between secure private office spaces for ministries housed in new and existing buildings.
The second proposal is by Team Urbis, which includes architecture studios Haptic and Nordic
The scheme presented by Team Urbis involves three existing and six new buildings, totalling around 150,000-square-metres of development and providing around 5,700 workplaces.
The design is based around two urban squares and a new park, with low-rise office blocks integrated into the existing city fabric.

Facades featuring setbacks aid the connection between the buildings and their surroundings, as well as allowing sunlight to reach the new urban spaces.
Gudmund Stokke, Team Urbis leader and principal partner of Nordic, said: "We have designed a timeless scheme which has the potential of enhancing the central areas of Norway's capital city and providing great working conditions for coming generations of government workers."

The bombing in Regjeringskvartalet was one of two politically motivated attacks on 22 July 2011 by far-right terrorist Anders Behring Breivik.
Behring Breivik set off the bomb in Oslo city centre first, before journeying to the island of Utøya and murdering 69 more people, mostly teenagers, who were attending a youth summer camp associated with the social-democratic Labour Party.
Statsbygg launched its design competition for new governmental buildings in 2016.

Seven design teams chosen from the initial entrants participated in a second, limited planning and design contest, which began in February 2017. These teams also included firms Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter, Snøhetta and Code Arkitektur.
The ministry will now consider detailed proposals from G8+ and Team Urbis, before naming the winner of the building contract in autumn 2017.
Other designs created in response to the 2011 attacks include a ring-shaped memorial and a new learning centre, both now realised on Utøya, and a landscape intervention that has now been scrapped following years of opposition from locals.
